Perfect for a Sunday trip, good walks up and down The Valley. New bakery in town was a welcomed addition. A good dog friendly town and a beautifully reserved burg.

The Castle Ruins in Zavelstein is a must see if you are in the Black Forest area. It's easy to reach, and there are many parking spaces within walking distance (I recommend parking at Sonnenhalde and walking through the town centre, taking the Fountain Trail). The castle looks much more imposing up close and it's great opportunity to teach your kid/s about the history of the region. Zavelstein was founded in 1200 AD, and remained the smallest official town in Württemberg from then until 1975, when it was merged with Bad Teinach. The defence tower built in 1200 later had a Chapel built next to it, and became the town church. It's worthwhile reading up on the fascinating history of the area before going there. There are no toilets nor snack/drink stands at the castle (at least not when I was there). I didn't see garbage bins either. So plan accordingly. The tour was fabulous and the guide spoke English, and worked hard to make sure we knew what he was saying. The mine has SO much history and it's definitely one to see!

It is a short, steep hike up to the Burgruine Waldeck (castle ruins). They are a fun visit. It is really run to walk the hilltop and see other ruins,the bricks and stones used in construction. There are sticker bushes. It is isolated. Bring water.

Old fortress, no great site but worth a visit if you happen to walk in the vicinity...

Relatively easy to reach ruine with 360 grad view but got a little bit wild because of plants growing ask around. And no direct access to the main tower. There is also an official place for grill

Tucked away along a country road, the only thing missing here is the ghost of Charlemagne!

Less than 2km from the nearest train stop plus a lot of hiking options in the area! A worthwhile visit indeed!
