Extremely nice canopy walkway with a 40 meter slide, and plenty of other things to see as well. A very inexpensive way to entertain the family while educating about the forest while doing it. Plenty of places for a picknick if the weather allows. We parked free of charge in the field opposite of the biosphere house. If you don't want to bring your own food and drink, there is a café bistro located in the biosphere house and another located in the farm shop. Food prices are moderate.
A cool experience, especially for older German reading children, though I think it could have a much better flow. We came here on a weekday as a party of two adults and three children ages 5, 3, and 1.5 - it was over an hour drive for us, and we arrived around 1 on a Tuesday afternoon in July. The parking lot is large but not exactly clearly meant for the biosphere house at first. There are some gardens from the parking lot to the main building, which are nice to stroll through and have English as well as German and (I believe) french. You go inside the building and then have to go one floor up to get tickets. This room is cramped and can develop a long line quickly. The staff member who checked us out was so friendly and spoke great English. We paid for us adults and my one child over 4, and got three tokens for the treetop walk (coins which could very easily be lost). We were then directed up one floor to begin the hands on museum, which was great but mostly in German, and the overall ambiance felt lacking somehow. My kids particularly enjoyed the few games they had scattered around, especially the magnet labyrinth. It seemed like not all of the electronic audio aids worked. You continue up floor by floor until you get to the top floor, which had a cafe, but it was closed even though according to the listed hours it should have been open. We had snacks so ate on the deck at the available seating anyway. We then walked down and used the bathrooms on the first floor (there are only two bathrooms I'm aware of, on the first floor and the fourth or fifth floor, all of which were clean and roomy enough) then walked to the tree top walk. This took about 30 minutes total and was fun. Most of the signage again was in German. The slides are awesome, though none of my kids were old enough to use the main highlight slide (need to be over 6, and must grab carpets to slide down on at the stadt of the walk). There is a picnic table near the slide. There is one "tower" with steps a stroller wouldn't be able to traverse. We finished by walking back to the entrance and then went back to the main house for bathrooms then went all the way back past the treetop walk to the playground, which is lovely but too advanced for my 1.5 yo and even my 3 and 5yo struggled with a lot of the features. But the seesaw, swings, horse figures, and boats were entertaining, and there was a bench to sit and rest and picnic (though no table there). We called it a day then; we spent roughly 2.5 hours there total. I feel there should be bathrooms closer to the playground, the cafe should have been open as advertised, tickets could be purchased more easily, tokens for the treetop walk could be eliminated, and the playground could have features better for younger children and more shade, and there could be more options for english speakers. There could be more picnic tables throughout outdoors. Of note, I believe the whole experience with a few exceptions could be stroller or wheelchair accessible. Overall, this was a good experience but I think better geared for older children (6+), especially ones who speak German.
It's worth it to go there...and learn a lot about life in,with and around trees. But even more spectacular is the choice of homemade cake in the little cafe on top of the "Baumwipfelhaus"...see my pictures. Shame...I was on diet...but just the look is worth it. Don't miss!
Nature! Tree house! Magical slide! Biosphere! Museum! Did I mention Nature!! Fun and enjoyable for the family
We visited in 2005 and have very happy memories or it. We came back in August 2017 with our kids (7 and 9) and loved it all over again. Museum kept them entertained, with good translations everywhere. The treetop walk is great and we did the slide over and over. The two adventure walks for families starting from site are recommended too - the adventure walk more than the water walk. Very friendly too. A great visit. We got a combined ticket from Castle Fleckenstein which felt like very good value for two brilliant days out.
Very lovely place with beautiful views of the forest. The museum is very interesting for kids and grownups. The small restaurant at the top is nice with options for a full lunch or just snack or dessert.
Great place to take the kids, be sure to pack lunch since there are lots of places to enjoy a Picknick, although the food in the 4th floor balcony is also highly recommended. keep in mind that the place is in the middle of a forest therefore insect repellent is recommended. tbere are 3 walking trails nearby to situate every fitness level.
Great place to for kids to be active. Pricing is great lots to see and to do and learn for the kids. Picnic tables are available.
