Built by Napoleon's army in 1804, this stepped, grass-covered pyramid is topped by a stone obelisk.

Last weekend’s walk to the Pyramid of Austerlitz and the surrounding forest was a refreshing escape into history and nature. The monument itself is impressive, a unique structure that adds a sense of mystery to the beautiful landscape. Climbing to the top of the pyramid rewards you with expansive views of the forest, making the journey worthwhile. The surrounding trails are serene and well-maintained, perfect for a peaceful walk among towering trees and vibrant autumn colors. It’s a hidden gem near Utrecht that combines historical intrigue with the calm of nature—a perfect weekend adventure.
Perhaps I'm biased as I didn't have the opportunity to experience the pyramid in all its glory but the opening hours themselves made that impossible and warrants a lost star. From the outside it is nice, and the surrounding area is a gorgeous walk but being unable to get a good view or photos of the pyramid is such a disappointment and I actually felt uninspired to learn much about the history of it (although I still did and it's quite interesting, not just a memorial like I assumed).
Super cool place. Didn’t expect this in the Netherlands. HOWVWRE THEY ARE ONLY OPEN ON SUNDAYS. Other days you can see it from outside but can’t go in
Perhaps not very impressive, but quite quirky; especially if you learn the history. Before visiting I assumed it was just some monument to honor soldiers or something. Apparently it was built because an army had time to kill and the general wanted to immortalize himself.
Nice place to visit. Take stairs to give top to see view its very beautiful
Buying a ticket gets you an extensive 360° view from the top of the pyramid, especially on clear days. I would probably skip buying a ticket if the weather is cloudy. The nature surrounding the monument is also well kept, relaxing, and open for anyone to enjoy without tickets. Ideal for a picnic.
I would give 5 stars for the green pyramid, just for the fact it is a surprising sight in the forest and the history dating back to the Napoleon time. On bright days you have a very nice view from the top and there are many information signs to brush up your history knowledge. Of course you are expecting a catch. And there is one. The admission fee is 3.50 euro per adult and 1.50 euro for kids up to 12 years old. In my opinion it would be better if they change this to a voluntary donation and/or make it more clear how this money will contribute to nature management and conservation. In the current setup it feels like a high price which might put off a lot of people from climbing the stairs to the top of the pyramid. Also, the nearby parking is free, but the parking guard made it pretty clear he expects a tip. Perhaps it's a long standing tradition here, but it adds to an overall feeling of unfriendliness.
Beautiful monument in the middle of the forest. Easy to reach by car, there's a lot of parking space in the vicinity. Before I went I thought it would be a bit bigger, so small disappointment there. Besides that a real eye catcher. Close by the parking lot is also a lot of attractions for children and a restaurant. The forest makes for beautiful walks. Definitely a worthy activity for half a day.

We spent the whole day at this place, and we absolutely loved it! We had a fairly long walk to the lake after taking the train, but the walk was wonderful. The lake is surrounded by a beautiful pine forest, and the scent of the sun-warmed trees creates an atmosphere of true relaxation in nature. The water in the lake warms up nicely, so children can swim comfortably. We felt like we were at a resort—it was so cozy and relaxing. There are also fun activities, such as a water pump installation where water flows through channels, which kids really enjoy playing with. Another fun activity is walking on logs over the water, which adds a bit of excitement. There are plenty of toilets available on-site, which is very convenient. Entrance is paid and costs 3.50, and tickets can be purchased on the website in advance or on the same day. We bought our tickets the same day by going to the website right at the entrance. It was very peaceful and beautiful here, and we will definitely come back again. We went as a family: my wife, our 10-year-old child, and I. We all really enjoyed this place!
I have no negatief comments about this place. I did reas some negatief comments that makes me feel down like almost cancelled it but I didn't do that. I want to see for my self..is that the truth ?. So I went with 2 of my children (teenagers). I don't have problem with the parking. Just think logic, when you want to go somewhere the smart thing to do is to do your research right ? So, there is no unpleasant surprise like cannot go in because there is no ticket balie of problem with the parkeer slagboom and causing problem for other people who are also in line behind you because your car cannot go in. That sort of thing. About this place. Clean! Rustig! The toilet is clean! I drive one hour to this place and ik heb geen spijt van.
A very beautiful place, especially when the weather is nice. Surrounded by nature, very clean. It's a big lake with the island and with the bridges connected to it. The water looks really clean and it is very nice for swimming. There's a little fee for an entry. Also there is parking for which you have to pay. I think a place is better to avoid during the weekends as it is crowded.
Fantastic place. Clean and shallow water for swimming and water games. Fine sand and well-maintainted facilities. Great with kids. Shadow and sunny places, huge areal. Some good food stalls as well. 👌🏼😎🏊‍♀️🏖️
Beautiful place. We stayed all day with my little granddaughter. She had a great time...it is very good for children. You don't feel you are in the Netherlands, because of the trees and the white sand. If you like swimming in lakes this is a perfect place. You must take tickets and parking place in advance, even same day but only online.
Best place for a sunny day outing. Anyone can spend 4 to 5 hours depending upon the yours/children’s interest to play in beach and water. Shallow waters with swans and ducks. A small island connected by 2 bridges to cross. Food stalls are only 3 but not all of them will be open at all the time. A sunny day well spent by beach and water. Can see people swimming and dipping. Lots of trees to provide shade when it gets too hot. All in all a beautiful place to visit. There are 8 public restrooms that are accessible through out the island and beach. Advise to buy tickets in advance. Buy a day parking for the car which is lot cheaper than hourly rate. Outside prepared food and drinks are allowed. Smoking is allowed. Playing Music is allowed too.
Fun area to enjoy a sunny day. Cycle from Utrecht / Amersfoort and have a relaxing swim in the lake :) beach vibes a plus! Tickets can be booked online or bought at the location through a QR code.
Beautiful lake/ beach with sand. It is a fun place in summer for kids and infact everyone to swim. Really good for picnic
