6/5. Worth of every penny. Guide was really fun and told lot of interesting details about the cave. Much more interesting than expected!
You can come and check this out if you're in the area. Otherwise, not that impressive for people who have already seen this type of caves. It is the standard in every cave: 45 min group tour, cold inside, only in German, 10 euro entrance…at least they allow pictures inside. I would suggest going to Rübelander Höhle, slightly more beautiful and the area more stunning.
This was an interesting and cool Cave to visit. Make sure you have the right cloth as it is pretty cold and the Tour takes a good 45 minutes. If you are in the area and have the time take the Tour. The Guide did a great job explaining the history of this Cave and its discovery. They have a small exhibit in the area where they sell the Tickets. They also have a Gift shop. Parking is not free but €2 euros for the day is not bad at all.
The cave is very impressive, and the time used for the tour is exactly right. The tour guide was informative but not overbearing. The biggest downside is that the guided tour is only once every hour. Unless you are with the tourse guide, you are not allowed inside, which is perfectly understandable. That means though that visits need to be planned in advance. Otherwise, you find yourself waiting 45 minutes. All in all, it was a very interesting experience and if you are in the area I would definitely recommend it.
This cave is not the typical dripstone cave - its a cave with „plaster clothes“. Take a tour (about one hour) and don’t forget your jacket! You‘ll also find connecting hints to the Kyffhäuser and Barbarossa Saga. Hiking through the surrounding hillside is easy and fun.
Barbarossahöhle is a completely different type of cave experience due to the type of rock (gypsum). Walls look like peeling paper and not the standard stalagmites. Tour in German, but asked for and received paper information in English for one of our group. Caves were cold (9°C) and a bit slippy in places but group was told about that at the start and there was no rushing. We were shown different types of rock and discovered the tricks of light on the slow flowing rivers. Guide was friendly and informative. She adapted the information for children, including the story of Barbarossa. Tours begin on the hour promptly, so arrive at least 15 minutes before to buy tickets, toilet etc. Hang left to park on the free car park... Great information centre and children's play area rounded off a great day.
The cave is suposedly unique from the geological point of view, but on me as a non-expert it did not make big impression, to be quite frank...
The place looks very nice, but the way is to short for me (8euro ticket). Good for kids, but only when the lights are On( there are two options with or without the lights)
