Thoroughly enjoyed my visit found it an amazing place the caves and moat were so interesting. Would recommend.
It's a wonderful place to see, although there seemed to be a lot of scaffolding and work going on during the visit, also wasn't able to get into half of the building for whatever reason. Maybe it was the time of year. Grounds are nice and overall a place to recommend
What a fascinating and charming experience. The original chateau was built underground with a labyrinth of tunnels and caverns, many of which you can explore. The chateau itself is splendid and gives wonderful insight into its history. The hire of the audio tour is recommended as it tells you the details of what you are looking at and enriches the experience. It says the chateau is wheelchair friendly but if you have impaired mobility it seems to me you will be restricted to just going around the perimeter of the chateau and the courtyard in its centre.
We don't do well with long visits...three children and certain attention spans and needs. This place gave us everything in a short amount of time, although you could spend a lot longer exploring. Dungeons, underground tunnels and huge moats to wander around. Really good
Found this castle through a flyer at musee de blindes. I have to say that it is quite the gem, from its stunning wooden interior and artwork, to the incredible cave labyrinth. I have been to quite a few castles, but the caves are definitely a first for me. Unfortunately you can't go through the whole castle, since it is still being used by the owners. Nevertheless it is a hidden gem and you'd still walk around for ~2h. They also have a prison downstairs, which was a perfect place for my talkative grandmother and get some peace away from her... But unfortunately she appeared again upstairs. The staff at the entrance were lovely and also spoke English. We went there on a hot day, but if you are going on a cold/rainy day, then I do recommend getting a thin jacket with you.
Absolutely amazing well restored and easy to get around The underground caves, tunnels and subterainian living spaces are really interesting
Interesting combination of a castle (no pics inside) and an underground fortress. Over 1,5km of corridors are open for visiting. Not the most beautiful castle you can see, but a combination with the underground makes it unique. Ps. I would just skip the local wine shop.. poor ambiance, ok wine with a bit too high prices.
Normally you could walk through the dry-moat and visit the tower Chambers. Both were closed (without notice beforehand). So this ment we could only visit the dungeons and about 4 rooms on 1 floor inside the chateau. All rooms were in bad states of disrepair (as is the whole chateau). Regardless of half of the grounds being temporarily closed off, the ticket was still the original price of 13 euro's per person. Which is way to much for what you get. I would advice to skip this, and visit some of the other chateau's in the region, which provide more worth for the entrance fee and are beter maintained.
