Monumental statue of Kwan Im, Buddhist goddess of compassion, within a riverside temple complex.
Slide 1 of 8
This is a Buddha school. We were not allowed in the temple on the property but the outside was beautiful. Across the small bridge was another beautiful building probably for school purposes. Not a must-visit, but if you are near, it's worth while. No entrance fee!
The name of the temple is Vihara Avalokitesvara. The name Avalokitesvara itself has various meanings and translated as Guan Shi Yin Phu Sa / Kwan Im, as a big statue of the goddess is there as the icon. This is a worship place for Buddhism, Taoism and Confusianism... Not really a tourist area. When you entered the main gate, the statue is on the left hand side whilst most of the religious ritual is at the right side., included a columbarium, where the ashes of ancestors is kept. Compared with my first visit around 15 years ago... The statue area seems need some renovation. Visitor is not allowed to climb up to the plaza. Hope the foundation with the help of local government can raise the fund for this...
It is truly a remarkable statue that can be admired even from a distance. However, it is regrettable that access to the statue has been restricted since the COVID pandemic, limiting visitors to viewing it from afar. The area is open and receives ample sunlight, so it is advisable to be prepared for sunny conditions during daytime visits. Please note: It may be necessary to set your map to the Vihara Avalokitesvara to locate this statue, as it is situated within the complex. Google Maps may inadvertently direct you to a rural area some distance away from the actual entrance.
I like this place. The sculpture is beautiful, its detail is really good. I enjoy a lot to walk to this site, because it just like i went to old time, how Chinese people live in Indonesia, it really shows the plurality of Indonesia. As there are Melayu, Chinese, and Indian ethnic in this place
Have been visiting this temple back when I was still in secondary school. The whole compound is a lot bigger now. The prayer hall is very spacious. As the temple is located far from city centre or busy road, it is very tranquil here.
Big parking area although have small enterance.
This Kwan Im statue located within a temple of 130 years history. To respect the harmony and peace, you are not allowed to enter the statue compound. But definitely worth the 15 minutes stop.
This is Vihara in Pematangsiantar city. Buddhist people usually visit this place to pray. But non Buddhist people also can visit this place.

Zoo

Laid-back zoo, founded in 1936, boasting unique species, an animal hospital & a museum.

Love the attraction and the animals. Very educated and amusing for both children and adults.
The zoo was well-maintained, clean, and the animals collection quite complete. The animals condition is also very well. The ticket price was affordable (IDR 30k/person). Toilets are also clean and in sufficient number. Signs for the route to start the journey in the zoo has to be improved so that the visitors can be easily enjoy the entire collection. Overall worth to visit.
Cool conservation zoo, variously curated animals. I assume that the animals came from illegal ownership. The reptiles are awesome, the birds are kinda mainstream except the ostrich, I'm vibing with the mammals especially the big cats even though there are only bengal tigers and lions! THE TIGERS HAVE BABIES!
The zoo is pretty small but decent. Has various collection of animals that are well cared by the keepers. Located in the city center that enables anyone an easy access
It was a good experience. Kids friendly, many places for kids to play. Much better than years ago, need more improvements though. Bring back the elephants please, and also other will be best.
I have never had a good expectation for a local zoo but Bali Zoo. But, this place has changed my mind. Eventhough there was no giraffe, but Happily, I saw more animals even the rare ones. They seemed healthy and maintained well. Located at the heart of Siantar City, around 2-3 hrs driving from Medan, North Sumatera, Indonesia. My kids were happy and we have learnt a lot. A little suggestion for this zoo are around the bin and the Wahana. As many people came and had food or snacks, they need to easliy find the bin otherwise more visitor would throw dirty things everywhere. Lastly, the playground was too yesterday and looked unimpressive, it needs more development at this area. Lastly, I thanked the owner for introducing this Zoo. Welldone.
Don't expect too much and you'll be happy. Small zoo, no elephants, giraffes, or rhinos, just lions, tiger, bears, zebras. Muddy floors, small cages, blurred glasses, malnutritioned animals especially the birds... Just like zoos in any third-world countries. The most interesting animals are the primates here. Some really like to interact with people as long as people throw some food to them. Well, feeding is prohibited here officially but people tend to ignore. The ducks at the center are not caged and can stand very close to people. Two hours are very enough to go through everything but of course you can take extra time to enjoy the parks or children playgrounds.
visited on 5th june 2019 the condition is far more ok then the last time i visited couple years ago. the ticket price is 30k rupiah. and i thought it was really worth for everyone with no age limit. this is a good place for vacation and learning. there are more than hundreds species there.

The Tugu Becak Siantar in Indonesia is a must-see attraction for those interested in the local culture and history. The monument is a tribute to the traditional becak (pedicab) drivers of Siantar, and is a popular spot for taking photos and learning about the history of the area. The monument is located in the center of Siantar and is easily accessible by foot or by becak (pedicab). It is a large statue of a traditional becak driver, complete with his pedicab and a passenger. The statue is beautifully detailed and is a great representation of the hardworking and friendly nature of the local becak drivers.
Salah satu kendaraan umum yang menjadi ikon kota pematangsiantar. People in this town call this motorcycle a "Becak" Long time ago, when the Dutch invaded Indonesia, one of the vehicles used for patrolling is Becak. And the Dutch left the most motorcycle in the city of Pematangsiantar. And then people in pematangsiantar make this motorcycle for public transportation.
The landmark. This 'becak' used to be the trademark of the city. Now it can hardly be seen on the road.
Rarely attractive, people see it when they pass through Merdeka street.but some others visited it,take photos selfie on it.as there are many food stalls around, just right they finished eaten ,they came to walk, stare, selfie, have fun together.note:Becak is a landmark of Pematang Siantar, All Residents very proud on it
first time to this city, riding becak around city is a unique experience😇😇
