Fantastic hidden gem. It is well preserved, and even the kids enjoyed walking the grounds and the tour inside the castle. €5 for a family of four to visit this fantastic piece of history is a bargain. It's definitely worth the visit
Castle is okay but guest services are almost zero. Nor a single place to sit between parking lot and ticket booth, about 500 yards, or between tickets and castle, another 150 yards. No benches or seats inside the castle. Not a single trash receptacle anywhere on the grounds. One toilet 75 yards from the ticket booth, away from the castle, which has no toilet or water
A hidden gem in the countryside, just a 30-minute drive from Pontevedra. The castle sits atop a hill with stunning views over the valley. The surrounding area is beautiful, featuring gardens, fountains, and majestic old trees like cedars and sequoias. Access to the castle’s inner tower costs €5. Free parking.
Very interesting place to visit and great value for money. The gardens are fantastic and well tendered. It was a shame we didn't have more time to explore more...the staff were very helpful.
Castelo de Soutomaior is a gem tucked into the Galician hills, blending nature and history in a peaceful and charming setting. The surrounding gardens are open to the public and free to visit, making it a perfect stop even if you’re just looking to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. You can sit under the shade of beautiful trees, listen to the breeze, and enjoy the sound of birds while overlooking a small koi pond and a cute little maze garden. It’s quiet, calm, and ideal for taking a break from a busy travel day. For just 5 euros, you can also visit the castle itself, which has been restored and includes a short video that shares the site’s rich history. The interiors are simple but well presented, and the views from the top are worth the climb. Whether you’re interested in Galician heritage or just want to enjoy a scenic, tranquil place, Castelo de Soutomaior is a great way to spend a couple of hours.
Renovated castle, with great views. Pleasant garden. Well structured history, although some of the displays were not working. Bumped into the Sest 600 club who were passing through.
Amazing place. Most of the castle it is open so you can visit almost all the rooms. For my the best part of the castle is the outside, you can go up to the walls, enter through the bridge, understand how the people defend the castle. Also, you can walk through the forest to see the vineyard and a water mill
Visited yesterday. Well documented history of this important castle that has seen a lot of changes over the centuries! There are almost no physical historical artifacts in the castle but excellent audio/visual descriptions of the various stages of it's history. Beautiful grounds with lots of camelia trees!!
