This was a first rate experience. I really enjoyed the work that the people have put into restoring and showing the realities of Croatian peasant life. Tito’s house is the main attraction but the small houses show just how tough it was. Great job restoring and preserving a piece of the country’s history.
This is the village where former Yugoslav leader Josip Tito was born. You need a cheap ticket to enter. There is no crowd like it was in the distant past as the guide said. The place is cute and you can see through it the customs and traditions of the past in a simplified way. There is a simple cafeteria for drinks. Two meters away is the border with Slovenia
Must see place to all who lived in SFR Yugoslavia. Place have some historical importance, but more to show how was life in a village a sencury ago rather than as born house and village of Josip Broz Tito. Very clean, well restored.
The Old Village Museum Kumrovec is a beautifully preserved open-air ethnographic museum that transports you back to life in a traditional village in the Croatian Zagorje region around the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It's charming to walk through the narrow, picturesque streets and see the original homes and farms restored on their authentic sites. It offers a genuine look at how the local people lived. While it is lovely and very well restored, it's worth noting that it's relatively small—you can comfortably see everything in about an hour. Also, the exhibits felt a bit static; live demonstrations or interactive elements would certainly enhance the experience. Overall, it's a worthwhile and charming stop for anyone interested in Croatian heritage.
A perfect place for a nice walk while learning about village life from a hundred years ago. The houses and the grounds are well maintained. It can make for a lovely weekend trip from Zagreb.
A charming stop in Zagorje! The Old Village of Kumrovec is a beautifully preserved open-air museum with traditional houses and Tito’s birthplace—peaceful, educational, and very authentic. After the walk, we had a delicious lunch at Kafana Kod Starog. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and great local food—don’t miss the homemade štrukli!
Nice and cozy place. Caffes there are not in a good shape but the museum itself is cute
Quaint little living history village very close to the border with Slovenia which features demonstrations, reconstructions and replicas of what small village life was like in the 1800s. Also includes the actual historic birth home of Josip Broz Tito, former president of former Yugoslavia. Oftentimes local vendors are on site and there is also a gift shop and two restaurants.
