The Monastery is open for free and include 3 small museums. It’s a private property and the welcome is warm and polite. The location is amazing with a panoramic view over the city of Andros and the sea.
Please go to see this Monastery. It was renovated by a man from Andros over a period of 10 years with local builders. It now houses orphans from Athens. A representation of human spirit in today’s society.
Like the other reviewers said before me, this entire place is a testament to the humanity, and philanthropic efforts of one man, a former ship captain turned ship owner. Absolutely heart-warming place, you should pay a visit if for nothing else, than at least to cheer you up.
(Translated by Google) A beautiful monastery on the heights in Monastery. We cycled here by bike, with a guide, otherwise we would never have found it. A beautiful church with nuns in black habits, no photos are allowed to be taken. The nuns make icons and rugs and other crafts. The inside of the church is beautifully painted and decorated. An older nun gave a tour but was difficult to understand. Beautiful views from the monastery. Highly recommended to visit the monastery.

(Translated by Google) The holy monastery of Saint Irene was founded in 1780 in the area of Archontas of Apoikia, by two brother monks from Apoikia with the surname Spyridou. During its heyday, it functioned as a nunnery. However, the monastery was dissolved in 1833, by the decree of Otto's regency, which required the dissolution of the Orthodox monasteries with a limited brotherhood, about a thousand throughout Greece, and the appropriation of their property. Over the years, the areas around the temple collapsed, but the temple remained, having suffered similar damages. The stone-built church with the marble iconostasis built in 1806 and part of the stone wall of the monastery are preserved. Inside the church is kept the miraculous icon (work of 1800) where Saint Irini and Saint Irini Chrysovalantou are present. In 2006, Master Eleftherios Polemis bought the 13-acre estate, which included the ruined monastery. In a period of 10 years, he and his family restored the buildings of the monastery completely respecting their original structure and maintained the Church. Today, the monastery presents a special project. During the summer season, it hosts the camps of children from various institutions. Also, the following museum collections are open throughout the year: 1. History of writing (Michael Kairis collection) 2. Collection of traditional musical instruments 3. Collection of rocks, minerals & fossils (Spyros Bella collection) 4. Elli Mandaraka – Stamatiadou & flora of Andros 5. "Blacksmiths, handiwork" collection (Michael Kairis collection.
