Perfect for a windy day, instead to going to beach
A really interesting and thought provoking little museum. It's a museum about a lace making school and shows how difficult life was for people with disabilities. The guide spoke little English but was able to impart the life of the people in the school, including his sister and mother. It's a part of Greece that will soon be lost, please visit.
This small yet captivating folklore museum offers a surprisingly extensive collection housed within two charming, interconnected, old but restored in big degree houses. Inside and outside in the yard, you'll find a rich array of everyday items from centuries past, each telling its own story of local life and culture. The price includes a guided tour, which added depth and context to the exhibits. The entrance fee was just €4—a very fair price considering the experience. At the end of the visit, there's a delightful selection of handmade crafts available for purchase, perfect for taking a piece of tradition home with you.
A fantastic little find its privately owned just follow the signs in the village it is uphill so if you have difficulty walking it may not be for you as there are narrow stairs in the museum the owner is on hand to offer you information about the place its 4€entry for adults a lovely look around a old village house and former mill well worth the effort in finding
I really enjoyed this little museum. It was very evocative of the life lead living there and the story of it's last resident is quite a thing. Lots of interesting textile exhibits which are my thing as well as all the artifacts of a rural life from the first half of last century...really very interesting to put yourself in the shoes of the residents snd really feel what life was like. Well worth the 4 euros each l thought. There is parking 4 about 4 cars directly opposite and quite a lot of steps to negotiate to get up to the entrance and around inside.
Took the public bus from Lefkada Town into the hills to the village of Karya. Had a wander round the village and as we were passing the Folklore Museum we popped in. Got a guided tour from a very interesting chap (spoken English was pretty good) who explained some of the exhibits. Made us appreciate the challenges of living in Karya over the years. Entry was shown as 4 euro each but we were happy to leave 5 euro each. Well worth a visit.
An unusual museum experience with a very passionate tour guide. He talks you through his mum's embroidery story and embroidery school with her 7 children and her overcoming the challenges of losing one arm at childhood. Some parts were comical with his strong enthusiasm and abruptness which also added to the experience. For only 3 euros, its worth the visit especially if you are in the area.
A lovely experience, the museum was interesting and we were fortune enough to get a private tour (just due to lucky timing) where Theodore showed us around where his family have been living - it was wonderful to see where he grew up and you could almost visualise his family living there. Definitely worth a visit - it is a bit of a trek from anywhere so you'd need a car but it was worth the €3 entry fee. Thank you! (the cats and dog made it even better!)
