Outdoor museum showcasing old border fortifications between East & West Germany & military vehicles.

This was a very interesting museum tucked away in the hills. Some friends that live in Germany took me here and I was impressed by the displays of all the different machinery outside. Some nice examples of the helicopters and other machines used during this time period. And a lot of the information boards feature an English translation :) - visited on July 15, 2018
Interesting museum portraying the time of the iron curtain. Various military vehicles from both sides exhibited. Several exhibits giving a photo account of the time. Pity most of the exhibits were in German. U get the overal picture but miss the details. A short summary would help. Never the less an impressive few hours soaking up history
An impressive and moving museum that vividly conveys the history of the German division. The exhibition is informative and well-organized, and the numerous exhibits provide deep insights into life at the border. The outdoor area, with original parts of the former border installations, is particularly striking. A visit that really touches you and makes you think. Highly recommended, highly important place!
The border museum is well worth the visit. There is a lot to see and read. The lighting could be a bit better in some places but I think they have done a great job with what little resources they had. There is a new, larger reception and display building that has just been completed but which is not yet operational.
Great museum for just €5. Free parking. No CC accepted. Museum consists of several sheds with lots of info and photo material. Outside helicopters and military vehicles and tanks on display. You can enter one of the old helicopters! The stories of those days that can be read with the photos leaves you speechless. New museum building is under construction.
An interesting mostly open air museum and Cold War memorial. This place documents the brief and disturbing history of the inner German border under the DDR. The methods and physical barriers to keep a civilian population contained under the auspices of communism were eye-opening. Though maybe not as notorious as the Berlin Wall, the inner-border zone nevertheless highlights the danger of a government run amok and the ultimate futility of a failed political ideology. Also documented was the current state of the “green zone” and how the former death strip has been transformed into a protected area throughout Mittel Deutschland.
Learning the history of east and west Germany, also looking at the fence that was built along the border. The guides told the stories with very good explanation.
Good experience, bunch of helicopters to look at and the guy at the reception is nice.
