Our first experience going through locks. The crew was so informative. I had no idea there were so many locks in the US even after seeing the Panama Canal earlier this year. This is smaller scale but equally vital to commerce and industry. Our Captain took us up the Canada side and back (down) on the US side. We'll visit again and do this tour again.
This was a great experience. The park does not allow any weapons! Leave your pocket knives in the car. Public restroom. The locks are very interesting. My family and 2 other families traveling had a great time. The ice-cream right across the street is amazing and very affordable. Walking strawberries are great but expensive.
This may be one of the coolest things Ice seen. Its just amazing watching the big ships move through the lock. There's a a nice viewing platform. A lovely park. And the visitor center is very interesting. Definitely want to come back, 2 hours just isn't enough to enjoy the area and I want to take the boat tour.
Fascinating experience. You float through a lock upstream, rising 22', tour the St Mary's River a bit, and then head back through a Canadian lock. No passport required. We rode on the Original Soo Locks Boat Tours. Well worth the price!
The Soo Locks are a set of parallel locks, operated and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and they enable ships to travel between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes. The locks are located on the St. Marys River between Lake Superior and Lake Huron, between the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan and the Canadian province of Ontario. They bypass the rapids of the river, where the water falls 21 ft (6.4 m). The locks pass an average of 10,000 ships per year. The Soo Locks has a nice visitor center, which provides historical information, as well as current workload and performance statistics. It's well worth spending 25 minutes visiting all the exhibits. A three-level observation deck allows visitors a close-up of the locks in operation.
Was a amazing experience, we got there on a busy day and loved seeing so many ships come thru and 3 - 1000 footers in one day. Waiting to see when the 3rd lock gets done. Definitely will be going back once it's done.
Beautiful marvel of engineering. Great seeing the boats go through, up close, really makes you appreciate their size and cargo tonnage. Definitely worth a stop to check out!
This was a wonderful experience! We took the ferry through the locks on the US side and they gave us a history and tour of The Superior and The Huron then came back through the Canadian side. I did not expect it to be so long(approx. 2 hours) and always carry a jacket! Saunt St. Marie is a beautiful quaint town and has lots of little shops and some really good places to eat!

The museum is packed with historical displays, and the ship itself is also very impressive and was a great opportunity to tour it. We were very limited on time, and wished we could have stayed longer. If you really want to see all there is to see on the ship, you probably need to plan to be there for around 3 hours. It looked like there was a guided tour option too as we saw a large group with a tour guide. We had a great time rushing around the ship trying to see as much of it as we could in the time we had!! I would go back another time.
cool experience, wish you could explore more of the ship. as someone with curiosity about so many things would love to see more of the engine room. also would be nice if there was guides to answer questions etc. all in all a cool experience though lot s of great artifacts, such as the edmund fitzgerald life boats.
What’s not to like about a museum in a ship. It’s loaded with displays, and historical artifacts, including life boats from the Edmond Fitzgerald. You can walk top side and see all the crew quarters and the helm. The Valley Camp’s length is 550 feet. Some freighters are 1000 ft today. Check out the very bottom to see the floor that warped from all the tons of cargo it carried. The museum has a lot of information about Great Lakes ships.
This was a fun visit for the whole family and it had ramps to most places for folks who can't do stairs. Loaded with history of shipping and the coast guard around the great lakes while at the same time touring an actual barge!
I was in awe to be able to walk through an entire ship on all three levels. There is a large collection of maritime artifacts! My favorite was a lifeboat from the Edmund Fitzgerald. It gives you an eerie and somber feeling to not only touch the boat, but to see the metal of the lifeboat torn from the rough storm that claimed the ship and crew. The top deck is a bit scary if you are afraid of heights, but it is worth braving. The crew quarters are located up there and it was very interesting to see how and where a crewmen lives while aboard the ship.
We got the adventure pass which is the tour of the ship, the tower, and boat tour. Let me tell you. You need to carve out a day to do this. I am from port huron and we live in iron mountain area. We have never been to the Su so it was both our first time. Growing up on the lake you would see the Ore boats and wonder what it was like to be inside. This gave us the opportunity to see. It took about 2 hours to explore fully and the great thing is if you want to you could go as many times as you wanted that day as it is a day pass into the ship. Not only do you get to see artifacts, paintings, and the ship in person but you get to explore on your own terms and pace. Every room and space is utilized with exhibits and staff was friendly. Everyone was respectful in not touching anything. Some areas have leaks so puddles can be seen. They repaired the very top so it is slippery when walking on but it was worth it. To be that high up and to see the captains quarters. The entire experience was really cool. At times it was a little hard to breathe for me because I have asthma but let me tell you it was worth it. Wonderful experience.
Was a fun time walking through the valley. Lots of cool stuff to read and look at. We also did the history tower. Price for both was pretty cheap and worth it.
On the border with Canada. There was so much to see and do you could spend a few days just checking things out. Very pretty up there definitely worth the trip up to Sault St. Marie.

We got the adventure pass which included the tower. My significant other is terrified of heights and im not the biggest fan of them either. Once inside the gentlemen at the desk was seriously the most chillest, calmest, nicest guy. He immediately put our mind at ease and went through the entire process with us. It's a straight shot up with no windows in the elevator. It took less than a min to reach the top. Once up there you can't see down you just see out. It was a very cool experience. If you are reading this we appreciate your assistance and guidance. You were one cool dude 😎
The pamphlet for this tourist attraction is misleading as includes images from multiple locations / attractions in the area, each with different opening/closing times and separate ticket fees. The pamphlet makes it appear that all the images are from the Tower location itself, when some are from the ship museum down the street (on the Deep Valley ship) and I believe other pictures are from a third location that we did not visit. For the most part, the tower is simply an observation tower. $8.50 per adult ticket was reasonable for what it is. There are two outdoor viewing platforms at the top (upper and lower) with an indoor viewing area in between, where you can watch ships passing through the locks. We enjoyed the views from the various viewing areas. There is a minimal amount of “museum” type displays in the building to see as well. The tickets will get you a small discount at the ship museum down the road, and possibly at other nearby attractions.
The Tower of History is an absolute must-visit in Sault Ste. Marie! The panoramic views from the top are breathtaking — you can see the St. Mary’s River, the Soo Locks, parts of downtown, and even Canada across the border. The elevator ride up is quick, and once at the top, you get a peaceful, open-air view that’s perfect for photos. The museum inside also gives a nice glimpse into the local history and culture. A great stop whether you’re exploring the area or just passing through — especially on a clear day when the views are unbeatable.
Such a cool place to visit. I enjoyed learning about the history of it. The stairs are not for the weak, once you start the only way is up or down, thankfully there's a elevator. The views from both viewing areas is AMAZING! A great way to get a good view of the city and the river.
When my girlfriend and I visited in late July, we were saddened to learn the elevator was under repair. We had a Soo Locks cruise to catch, and we didn't have time to climb 292 stairs up and down, but we were delighted to see that the elevator was up and running on our recent teip this past Labor Day weekend! The history was amazing, and the views were astounding! The gentleman at the admissions counter was friendly and humorous, and this made for a wonderful experience before we made our way back home!
Very interesting atea history and stories about the Catholic Church. INCREDIBLE views! Five adults costed $42.50 but it was worth it! Took wonderful pictures and were even able to see ships come in the river. Windy! Watch your hat!
The Tower of History offer a 360° view of the town and is next to the locks so you can watch ships traverse it ye lake leading into the lock. There is a few to go up in the viewing area.
The Tower of History in Sault Ste. Marie offers stunning views from two observation platforms—if you can handle the 292-step climb (elevator was broken!). Inside: a short film about the town, fascinating birch peel artifacts, restrooms, and a guest book to sign. Admission is $8.

This is a really nice place to stop by if you are in Sault Ste Marie. Great place to see really big Great Lakes freighter ships go by. The park is on this tiny island, and there is a playground in the middle surrounded by plenty of parking.
Nice clean park. My children enjoyed swimming and looking in the rocks. We saw several people fishing here, not sure if they caught anything. Spent about an hour here and saw 1 freighter. The ferry to sugar island is really close and runs really often.
While on vacation, my girlfriend and I love visiting Rotary Island Park to see the big ships come through! This is our favorite spot to watch, and we've met some other nice people while getting into our new hobby! Watching the ships in the locks is cool, but something about the Rotary Island Park area just adds more charm and a personal feeling to the experience when your favorite ships to see in person give a salute! We've spent hours here, day and night, and we love how the park is always open to visit!
The park was very clean and a nice environment to relax and let the kids play. My 5yo played at the playground while my 9yo fished in the “kids only” pond. It’s an area marked off by a net for kids 16 and under only. There’s a nice little dock for them to cast from. We seen a ship come by which was really neat and nice for the kids. Very nice area!
Great place to skip rocks, have a picnic, and watch the freighters go by:)
Nice park, great way to watch the ships come up the river from the locks.
a favorite among locals for walking, picnicking, and watching freighters pass through the nearby Soo Locks. The park features open grassy areas, shaded picnic spots, and a playground, making it great for families. The walking paths are well-kept and connect to the larger riverfront trail system, offering beautiful water views along the way. Everything is clean, safe, and well-maintained, with restrooms and ample parking nearby. It’s a calm and scenic spot that perfectly showcases the area’s waterfront beauty.
Great place to sit and relax or fish . Water is Crystal clear . Beautiful rocks around the shoreline if you get hungry clydes diner is a short walk away and has awesome take out !

I recently went to the Soo Brewing Company and 1668 Winery at 100 W Portage Ave, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI The atmosphere and staff were both very nice. The beer was very good and the chipotle chicken wrap was delicious
Great food and beer. They have outside seating area so you can bring your fur babies. Staff is very friendly and totally worth a stopping for lunch or dinner. The poutine and burger were delicious 😋
Beer was not very good. IPA seemed skunky with a bitter after taste that would not go away. The wine has decent at best.
This is probably a great college student hang out. For the Gen X crowd not so much. Had floaties in my wine which was the redeemer of this spot. Not the floaties but the replacement wine. The peach apricot fruit wine was delicious. The view is probably great too but it was too hot today for us to go on the rooftop. The pretzel was huge and the mustard was sweet and spicy. The cheese was okay. The pizza crust had a good flavor but the sauce was runny and the cheese congealed quickly making it quite limp. We had to find our own silverware to eat the limp pizza. We had to ask for our box and receipt, while the wait staff played on their phones, with their nails and gossiped. Moral of the story go for the wine, apps and view.
Food & drinks were wonderful! My fav fruit wine 🍷 was the White Cranberry or Soosberry. Fav red was the Malbec.
The place was super cool inside, and super clean. Our bartender was super kind. We played cards against humanity, ate some delicious poutine, and drank hard cider and wine. The Soo Berry wine is extremely good, as well as the poutine!
Food: We tried the garlicy pizza bites, which didn't taste special, they were alright, I think I would rather try a different appetizer. We also tried the classic poutine which was much better. Beer was tasty! Staff: Friendly and attentive. Overall a nice atmosphere, would definitely stop in again if I find myself in the area in the future.
Soo Brewery was my recent destination via Whitefish Bay scenic highway. Make all the stops and take in a hike, wet your feet in the sandy Shallows, or view the lighthouse along the route. The craft beer here is outstanding! I love the Old English IPA and the Maggie’s Red. These two are about 7% ABV, so slow down and enjoy the flavor. Hungry? Handmade pizza is a mainstay at Soo Brewery and you won’t be disappointed. Stroll the streets of historic Sault Ste. Marie afterwards or view one of the great freighters as they pass through the Soo Locks.

I went here during the 1960's when it was Michigan Tech and a number of ex Marines went there as well and they taught me about fighting a war in a triple canopy jungle. You learned not to complain about anything and you stand by your buddies. The teaching straff were great !
Disappointed in what I was given at this school. The education was sub-par due to low funding and poor professionalism from faculty. With the president embezzling more than $100k from the school/students, faculty grooming the young women in programs, and the constant dissatisfaction from the higher ups within the school regarding student affairs and general way of life for students is disheartening. The few handful of professors who make this school worth while is sadly not enough for me to recommend this school to anyone. After working for the school in just about every department during my time here, there is so much corruption to be found behind every corner. This school has a lot of work to be done, both structurally and internally.
I do not recommend this college as a 4 year program.
Great university. Very small. Good student to faculty ratio. They have all of the student help that larger universities offer (tutors, health center, class study groups, counseling center, etc). Went all four of my years here.
Definitely wouldn't recommend this place. Unprofessional and ineffective professors seem to be the norm. But, those unprofessional professors will scold you for being unprofessional yourself, because apparently trying to have any amount of fun in college (or just generally acting like a normal human being) is unprofessional. Showing up 5-10 minutes late to every class they teach, complaining about how they don't have enough time to get through the lecture material, running class 15 minutes over the limit, setting up improper schedules then getting mad at students who have a scheduling conflict in reality but not in the registrar's system, and (on occasion) wearing seemingly the same clothes for a week straight, however, are all some of the wonderful and totally professional examples they set.
My daughter is enrolled there through dual enrollment from her high school, and the college nor her high school know how to communicate with the family or the student in sufficient and efficient time frames before things begin for the students. My only suggestion for other parents who have dual enrolled students at LSSU is to contact LSSU yourself if you have not heard anything and you know registration has begun. This could save you the frustration we are having getting things straight. The whole thing could have been avoided with communication from the time of registration began until now, but there was NONE! At this point, due to miscommunications and some communication mess ups, I’m still not sure if our problem has been corrected? I really wish I would have been on top of things when it came to this, but I had it in my mind the high school and LSSU knew what they were doing and would do what is best for the high school student who drives 45 miles one way...
the frigonometry class was not being taught correctly. frigonomics was also not being taught in a correct manner. DO BETTER. 3 stars just for the lake
I'm currently attending, it's my freshman year, and the faculty are so nice and so helpful and everything is so organized and fun. I love this university so far!!!

Very beautiful Divine Mercy celebration🙏🏻on Divine Mercy Sunday. The church was beautifully decorated for Easter. The choir was wonderful, the man who led the prayers did so beautifully! We were so Blessed to be able to attend!
A beautiful church that I was told to go visit. When I arrived, after lunch it was closed.
A sacred space with very old history and her story. I was drawn to see this historical building when visiting the Tower of History. When I inquired about being able to go inside I was delighted when the man in the Tower lobby said that we could. He than told us some history about the church. I loved the tranquility felt as soon as we stepped inside the front door. I bathed in it and it within. What beautiful architecture, I breathed it all in. I knelt at the front and gave thanks. I filled my cup full of goodness. I gazed at each piece of framed art surrounding the sanctuary. Moving throughout the space with ease and grace, I placed eyes upon each statue. At the side foyer I place $3 in the candle bank. I lit a candle and said a prayer. I enjoyed the artifacts displayed in the foyer and took in the energy of Mary and her grace. Thank you for sharing your space with many. It was beautiful.
Picture was taken from the top of the Tower of History sponsored by the Church. The beautiful Church was built in the late 1800's. The Church and the tower are worth a visit. No Fee-Contribution appreciated.
The present church was built in 1881 and features Gothic Revival architecture with intricate stained glass windows, soaring spires and detailed woodwork. Not only does it feature gorgeous architecture but it holds significant historical value as the oldest parish and oldest cathedral parish in Michigan as well as the third oldest parish in the United States. The beautiful interior offers a serene and peaceful retreat for worshippers and visitors alike. The combination of its architectural beauty, historical significance and cultural importance make this a must-visit attraction in Sault Ste. Marie and one I highly recommend!
Beautiful church and everyone there.
Must stop to see the 3rd oldest Catholic Church in the U.S.A and has a Gothic Revival style to it.

Love this bookstore! Found great local books both for myself and my son. Also loved the sweet shop kitty!
I was finding a lot of books I wanted. Prices were decent. I put them all back when we discovered the children's section catered to drag queen gayness. So disturbing to influence Children like this. God created Man and Women to be husband and wife.
Very cute book shop! They had some locally made crafts as well!
I love this bookstore! The staff is always very nice and helpful. They have a great selection of used books as well as new! There are lots of fun items in the store; a lot of them are made by local artists!
Cute little book shop with new and used titles. Lots of unique books to check out. Be sure to give the store kitties some love.
I always enjoy visiting this used & new book shop when in the Soo. I always find amazing gems here - great used finds and new books too. The bookstore cat is a favorite, I always stop for a pet. :) The owners are really nice and always chat with me. There is a variety of items for everyone, from children's books of all varieties, to mystery and fiction, to romance and biography, to Michigan-related books and many, many other categories. There is also a really nice selection of locally handmade crafts from various vendors. Highly recommend! Stop in it you're local or visiting for a look!

Plenty of free parking close to pier. You can walk along the dock, look at the water, and look at the giant freighters passing by. Benches to sit on. Enjoy the sunset. Fun for the whole family. Plenty of restaurants & ice cream within 1-2 miles. Very beautiful place.
First time visiting this marina to bring our clients back to Canada. Was very clean and inviting. Great location in the summer for boaters who want to visit beautiful Downtown Soo, Michigan!
VERY CLEAN, good staff. Docks are in very good condition. Seen an adult otter on my dock after dark!
Good location with access to bikes to ride into town. Nice facilities as well. Dockage fees ok and gas in line with others these days.
Mostly good, young staff need additional training.
Very relaxing to sit by the water. And watch the sunset while seeing others fish off the dock.See if they caught that one big one it's truly breathtaking when you can see canada all lit up Like an elegant lady waiting to go out for the evening.
Wonderful spot. Freighters passing by, watching the Ojibway supply boat, close to restaurants, the locks, loaner bikes, clean facilities and friendly, competent staff. Keep up the good work harbor master!

Such a great place to take the family on a cold winter day!!! We came up from Ann Arbor for the weekend and this was a highlight of our trip. Spent 3 hours there in the afternoon, left and got dinner, then returned for the last hour at night before they closed. So much fun! Tubes are comfortable and there's nothing better than being towed back up the hill each time. Kids, ages 7/8/10, went up and down countless times. We had to run down the first time with them, then after that they were off on their own. Easy to find, great price, and the staff was all really friendly. This will definitely be an annual trip for us going forward!
First time taking my kids and they loved it also only $22 for one adult and two kids, however after only an hour we decided to leave because there were so many people and not enough tubes you had to wait in line for one.
3 First timers had an Amazing time. All staff were very kind and helpful. Not too many places today you can go have fun and burn a tonne of energy for $22. C’mon mom and dad get your tube on we Promise you’ll create some Great memories!!!
Went sledding for first time in years and had a blast! We were on the free hill because the tow rope side was closed. Awesome winter activity. If in the area, I highly recommend checking it out.
Good family recreation. Free hill for sledding, some sleds were even available to borrow. Tubing runs were busy on a Sunday afternoon, but well run and fun. $10 adult/$6 kids for tube rental and lift use.
My very first time tubing with my 4 year old grand daughter and my adult daughter and all I have to say is I had an awesome time, We were nervous at first but it was so much fun and I felt very comfortable and safe, it was so much fun I highly recommend this is for a friendly family fun time.
Great place for cheap outdoor activities! Tube or snowboard down the hill and get dragged back up with the lift system. The tubed are huge inner tires and the hill is devided into multiple sections so that you dont run into people. Go down alone, with a friend, or a group of people. Warm up in the building and buu a hot cocoa.
Didnt get a chance to go very far down the trail as a skunk got in our way. Trails looked good. Main entrance and parking is off 20th for trails and not parking by the high school

Nice little museum. Worth the visit if you are in the area. And it's free!!
Way, way off the beaten path, it's a former Coast Guard station and lighthouse. Many artifacts on display from shipwrecks, including the bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald. A couple of worthwhile videos to see.
This is a great little museum! It's one smaller room, but it has some well thought out exhibits. There was families with kids. There was a gift that had a lot of cool stuff for all ages. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. You do have to go up some stairs to enter. Check them out and support them. It's a great place to learn and see some cool stuff!
Very nice little museum and gift shop. Small but mighty. Alot of information about the locks area and the great lakes as a whole. Would highly recommend checking it out 👍
nice small little museum/ giftshop definitely some cool pieces inside. however the real prize in this place is Ron! he is very knowledgeable, knows the area and the history very well. gaves us some great directions and showed us a beautiful route to take to our next destination. stop in and see Ron if your in the area!
Such an amazing place to visit. The people who work there are very informative and the buildings are amazing to explore. The gift shop is pricey but that's to be expected for the most part. Take a walk on the beach and you'll have an amazing view!
Seriously cool hey. On top of that you can go diving on some of these wrecks and see them in person.
Ron was very helpful and knowledgeable! Fun little place to stop!

What a fun and delicious activity! The U-pick blueberries plants stretched for hundreds of yards. The owners are friendly, helpful, and thoughtful, providing sunscreen and bug repellant. Several blueberry varieties to choose from. You can pick as few or as many plants you want as the bushes are absolutely full! Very affordable prices.
This was a great spot to enjoy the weather and pick delicious blueberries! We enjoyed wandering and finding just the right berries.
Just picked pounds of the best blueberries!! Great people, great berries. great time!!
