Nice and spacious campground. Great roads through the campground but some sites need a bit of leveling. We were in pull through site 32 and it was very easy in/out and level for a larger RV. The hiking and biking trails were well kept. We were able to bike all the way to town and back about 5 miles each way. We do have fat tire e-bikes and there were just a couple slow spots for this older lady! Was a fun ride and not too strenuous with a little assist. Views of Mississippi were beautiful.
Beautiful views! I only had time for the scenic overlook near the parking lot and the short trail to the waterfall. I would absolutely visit again if I'm in the area! The overlook was stroller friendly/dog friendly/ and wheelchair friendly! The trail to the waterfall has many steps. Not suitable for those with difficulty walking. There were many picnic areas and a large parking area. Clean but older plumbed bathroom near concession stand. Would recommend!
Absolutely stunning! This park has one of the most unique and beautiful views in Iowa. The trail system is well organized and easy to navigate. Bridal Veil falls is easy to get to and super pretty! The campsite #20 was nice in that it backed up to the woods, has electric, shade, fire pit and picnic table. Water nearby and an outhouse. The Camp Host was extremely helpful. We are new RVers with an older motor home that wouldn’t start and we couldn’t figure it out. He came to give us a jump and ended up finding a battery connection issue that he cleaned up enough to get us rolling, so we could head home. Wish we could have stayed long and we will be back!
As full time rvers, we know good & bad campgrounds ans parks. This isn't just a huge state park, its just about right. The sites were large enough to fit my jeep, our 4 door truck with 8 foot bed, and our grand design momentum 380th (triple axel) and we stayed in site 15. There are pit toilets right behind out site we didnt need but were available. The bath house and flushing toilet restrooms were already closed for the season and signs said they closed october 19th. There are a hand full of walking trails that we took with our dog. The park is pet friendly but no dog park. Some site were pretty level and some were not at all. We did not come during peak season so we picked our spot upon arrival as everyone pays online with a qr code available at the front to make it simple. Come in tax and all at $25, pretty amazing price for power hookups. Some sites have power, some have power & water. Our site 15 had power and a water pipe across the road if needed. There is a dump site at the campground, as well. Great park at a great price with beautiful views!
Always love camping here, great scenes, trails and campground. The campground has really been upgraded, lots more concrete not sure how I feel about that yet, but the campground is very nice and the shower rooms are good. The trails and scenes are always good. They did remove the children's playground up by the camp store, not sure why they did that, but overall very good experience.
Great views of the Mississippi. Great overlooks. Good hiking. Bridal veil falls was a bit underwhelming but a nice hike. Definitely go if you like great views, walks and exploring the area.
Very nice state camp ground with a variety of sites and pullins to tent camping for youth groups. Electric 50amp sites and a few communal water stations are available. Nice trails with a waterfall and multiple lookout sites over the Mississippi River. Bike trail to town is about 5-6 mi downward slope coming back either be in good shape or have an e-bike to assist.
We enjoy Pikes Peak. It's a nice drive through town to get to the point and the views are wonderful. They have clean bathrooms and a gift store that sells drinks on a hot day. I finally visited in late fall. It's equally beautiful and colorful. But they do close the nice bathrooms later in the season.

Beautiful and very well kept up campground. All of the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend to anyone! We went on the tour and Jared and Izzy were great tour guides! We were impressed with the staffs attention to detail and cleanliness! Our kids enjoyed the weekend as much as we did! We will definitely be back multiple times!
My kid and I visited Spook Cave and had a beautiful time. There was only a short wait for the scenic boat tour through the cave, and it was well worth it. Our guide, Ren (I hope I’m spelling that right!), was full of energy, knowledge, and enthusiasm, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The tour was fun, informative, and a great adventure for both kids and adults. Highly recommend taking the tour if you're in the area!
Very well kept campground. Restrooms were clean, staff was friendly, souvenir shop offers tons of options.. BUT, our cave tour was an iffy experience for me. Our tour guide was a younger teenage girl and it showed. She talked about her teenage DRAMA the ENTIRE tour. Sharing stories that are better kept in your personal circle. It was hard to enjoy the experience and actually tune in to what she was saying. I wanted to tune out the drama but wanted to tune into the facts about the cave. Just very annoying honestly. Also had the same experience in the gift shop. A girl in the deli area talking VERY loudly about her personal boy drama. I understand it may be a fun summer job for these teenagers and I want them to have that full, fun camp experience but there is a time and place to be a silly teen and a time and place to be a professional. I enjoyed my time overall and will recommend Spook Cave to anyone looking for a getaway. (Also a train runs right through the tent camping right by the lake. Only went though 1 time while we were there)
Location is close to town, so that was awesome. Service and workers around here are great tho especially Izzy!! So the bad part about the place if your tent camping, Spend your money elsewhere. Your on a dead end road with a utv trail, golf carts and utvs constantly going by. Golf carts just drive by to turn around and go back. They can't even go anywhere so a sign needs to be posted sooner NO golf carts for respect of campers. Not too mention kids driving by throwing garbage in your site. Your also right by the swimming fishing spot which is really small. Gotta drive around to go swimming and people fishing don't care about your peace, right up in your tent site.
There is a campground. No Hotel. I've been on the Spook Cave Boat Tours many times with different people. Every visit has been educational & fun. Boat ride is approximately 35 minutes & tour guides keep passengers interested & engaged. Pretty area & excellent store to get souvenirs
Great all around campground. Cabins that i was in ( 3 ) 2 were very roomy n comfortable 1 was way small. Parents campsite was clean and well maintained as was rest of the sites I seen. My only problem was the lady that vocally attacked us for walking across " her grass " she claimed they paid for site 39 and there site goes all the way to the road. He really focused on the our children till us Parents found out, she got a reality check quickly. My nieces n nephews had an absolute blast doing the color run ,playing volleyball and other games. I've alway heard about this place and seen the sign many many times but never been till this weekend. Thank you all for having us. Ill definitely be back to rent a cabin for a weekend.
We had a great time.. our guide was Izzy and she did an amazing job.. our boat was full so she got out and pulled us along on the tour.. if you visit the cave you'd be lucky to have Izzy as your guide she's awesome
Room was nice and furnished. Wasn’t as big as described. Location was supposed to be the view of the lake, it wasn’t. Lake was more like a pond. Was supposed to have things to do on the lake. That was a joke. Kayaks didn’t float, no paddles. Overall experience was not great. Wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t go back

I happened upon this gem by chance and I'm so glad I did. It is not just a book store, but a place to find some of the most unique and funky items and gifts. The owners I believe are mother and daughter and are very welcoming, warm and friendly. I loved it so much, I stopped back a second time before I left town to make sure I hadn't missed anything. I also don't want to forget to mention the shop cats past and present. Don't miss this place. It's well worth it!!
The Paper Moon is literally my happy place. Truly! I always spend too much money there but I walk away with the best books and feel satisfied I helped a small business every time! The atmosphere is magical (that wouldn't have anything to do with the fact I'm a crazy cat lady) and the girls are the best!! I recommend the Paper Moon to anyone who loves books, cats, and being kind. ❤️
Lovely bookstore! From the charming building it’s in to the cats roaming about to the friendliest staff to the many books and extras, I am sorry to admit that this year is the first time I’ve been there. Wait until you reach the third floor, filled with books for children of all ages! I will definitely visit again!
Great books and lots of great gifts for yourself or loved ones. Pearl is so friendly. Meow
They have cats! The staff and cats were so friendly. Especially to my toddler. They made me feel comfortable there. My kid also loved the cats and atmosphere. Wonderful place.
Visited on the Indie Bookshop Tour. Wanted to say I’ll take one of everything but, since our car is not that big, I had to settle far a few really fun items. The person who was working was so friendly and personable. If you are traveling anywhere within a hundred miles of this place, I would say point your car towards McGregor and check this place out!
I absolutely fell in love with this place! Three floors of books for everyone, one of a kind gifts, and more! You won't be sorry, you stopped. Plus, they have cats!! 😻
So many wonderful treasures to find. Love the owners (and their Kitty) We always look forward to summers when our travels take us back.

By the Spoonful is such a hidden gem! The place is super cute and cozy, and the drinks are really fun and creative. The boba and popping jellies are seriously amazing—they make every sip way more fun. What really makes this place stand out is all the unique stuff they have. The drinks are great, but they also carry a ton of cool local, homemade items you don’t usually see anywhere else. It’s the kind of spot where you just want to look around, try new things, and hang out for a while. Definitely worth checking out!
Very nice store with a big variety of gourmet package food. Unfortunately, they do not display the price on the items. This prevented from making a purchase.
Great spot to check out while in the McGregor area. There are lots of goodies to take home or grab a drink or snack (grab and go sandwiches as well) while out on your adventures. I was interested in trying their boba milk tea drinks. It was around noon and I already had my fill of coffee so I opted for a fruity option - kiwi popping boba and mango jellies in almond milk. It was delicious. I’ll have to remember for my next fruity drink that the jellies are preferable over popping bobas :) I love the traditional tapioca boba though with my normal milk tea. So many options for drinks though! The spritzers are popular right now and they have that option as well. Service was good.
Stopped in to pick up some spices and ended up buying several things. Great store! Good variety of meat, beer, good sodas, and fresh drinks. The spritzers we got didn't last the whole way back to camp. We debated turning around and going back to town for more! The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Love this little shop! A good variety of goods to buy, with option of fresh made drinks to go, but what I really loved was the little containers of loose tea! I love that option vs buying a big container of teas you may actually hate.
Hands down my favorite stop in McGregor. Grabbed a Carmel Apple spritzer on my way to the marina. It was Divine!! I also stop for freezer meals, brats, bacon, breads, deli meat and cheese, local wines. So many reasons to live this shop.
Honestly the worst coffee I have ever had. I got a small hot 'spoonful mint' latte. It supposed to be irish cream and mint. It had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. The cup also felt about half full, too. I'm not kidding when I say it tasted like warm milk with dirt. I took the lid off to see that it looks like literal dirty dish water!! My husband got the iced Chai latte. He didn't know he needed to order a dirty chai to get coffee in it. We both tried it, and it was so bland. Never had such a bland iced Chai drink. When they took our order, they didn't take a name. We waited for what seemed like forever, so I went back up to the counter. The drinks were just sitting there......for how long? They didn't call them out or anything. Not getting coffee here again!
Literally the best chai around. Service is fast and friendly. The owner is always smiling and willing to help you locate anything your heart could desire! Amazing selection of local goods, with the charm only a local coffee shop could have! Always a favorite!

Absolutely wonderful used book store with a selection that leans towards older books. Picked up some 50+ year old copies of some classics that id always been meaning to pick up. Had to limit myself and only grabbed a few. Worth a visit to the town just for this.
Really awesome place!! Diverse selection, with some surprising finds. Great atmosphere. Even if you arent a huge reader, it is definitely worth popping in there.
A wonderful place full of delightful surprises at every turn! While relatively small, I found so many interesting titles that I ran out of time and had to promise myself a future visit. I had a nice time chatting with the owner as well, who I was pleased to find was knowledgeable about the specific local reading interest I had. Other reviewers upset by higher prices should recognize that this is a small business specializing in rare books, and as such should have tempered their expectations where cost is concerned.
I have been to McGregor, Iowa numerous times but had never browsed through this bookstore. The owner was friendly and knowledgeable. He had a good selection of history books and early- and mid-twentieth century American fiction. I'm not familiar with prices of books in such stores, but I think the owner strives to offer a fair price. The books are in pretty good condition; the store does not smell musty, as do a lot of used bookstores. I'll definitely return and browse some more.
Had two different experiences here. My husband and I went in and enjoyed looking around. We purchased a book and some comics. The gentleman working was friendly and answered some of our questions. We went back with my family a few days later and my aunt was kicked out for having a service dog by the lady working because she "didn't want dogs in her store." My aunt informed her it was a service dog (he had his vest and certification tag visible), but she didn't care. I understand it's a small store, but under ADA and Iowa law the service dog is allowed to accompany her. Definitely left a bad taste. We all left.
Great bookstore! They have a good selection. The man working was nice. Really recommend!
This is one really unique old book shop. The selection is great. The Location is great. The proprietor is really helpful and easy to work with. Highly recommended.
Discriminatory!!! Kicked out a group of disabled adults - absolutely horrible in this day and age for someone to be so rude! The person working and/or the owner should be completely embarrassed by their behavior...and if it wasn't the owner working, you need to fire your employee!

What an excellent local history museum! We stopped in the afternoon on a Saturday, and Leigh was so knowledgeable and helpful and kind. We learned about the mind-boggling sand art by Andrew Clemens, as well as the history of McGregor, and we even bought our own sand art making kits there to try for ourselves later. Wonderful experience, and it helped to make our weekend trip to McGregor fun and memorable. Thank you Leigh!
This is a labor of love — a fascinating collection of artifacts documenting mostly the recent history (ie: since arrival of white people). Well worth a visit.
I went there in June 2017 and I there and it was a very nice little museum and that has a lot of history and it packs a punch.
My mom was a child model. There is a picture of her in the museum. I was so excited to finally see it in person, with her!❤️
A lot of personal stories in this small museum. More of a who and how folks lived. Good for short visit.
Full of local history

I just loved this store! Thought it was the cutest! I saw a large wooden star when we drove by, so I had to stop. Even though, it was closing time. She invited us in. I also liked another sign but wanted it in a smaller size. She noted she could make it and have it ready in the morning- which she did. The signs are good quality and very affordably priced.
My wife and I stumbled upon the lovely town of McGregor on our way to Pikes Peak Park and this was our first stop. The owners were very welcoming and personable while we enjoyed looking around the shop. My wife loved the whole store, but I managed to get her out after only a couple purchases.
Such an amazing shop of great hand made wooden signs and accessories for any home!! Owners are so personable and just wonderful people! A great addition to the McGregor town shops!! Will definetly be coming back for some of the custom built furniture...We didnt being a big enough vehicle!!!!
Absolutely enjoy this store. My wife loves it. Owners are very nice, helpful and always smiling!
It's a Amazing Store, the Owner was Great and I purchased one of Her Wood Carved Bears!! I'll definitely go back there!!
Great little shop! Many beautiful items! Very helpful and knowledgeable!
More than your typical gift-shop. Fun to visit and easy to find a gift that's "just right."
Always a fun place to check out great hand lotion and lots of signs to pick from
