Great place for a perfectly getaway! I'm not necessarily a birder and I don't fish, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy my stay here. It is definitely geared more for those hobbies. I was in the area to do some cycling out of Patagonia and this was a great base camp. I definitely recommend the East side for a quieter setting. Spots are nice and spread out with electric and water hookups. Showers were clean with hot water.
Our first time. It was awesome. We had the place to ourselves. Showers were out of order. Clean restrooms. Port a potty’s available. We found a plug to get some power. Multiple grills and picnic benches available. We swam around and also brought an inflatable boat with oats. There were lid jackets available for use there for free, they were hanging on a rack.
This is a great park, lots of trees, large Rv spots, lots of privacy. Water is great, they have a sandy beach. Lots to view, even saw a naked person roaming their Rv, just cause the windows are tinted doesn’t mean you can’t see through them, especially when your lights are on, I’ve enclosed pictures, blurred of course. Cool bridge to walk over at night as well. Price has gone up way too much for what you get here and nothing else near by. 50 a night is a bit pricey.
For the money spent on camping the camp grounds should be level and weed free. The picnic area lake view is non existent do to overgrown bushes tree's and weeds other than that it's a nice place to hang out with friends.
We camped at Patagonia for a week. There’s 2 different sides to the campground. Each has its advantages. Most spots on the side we stayed on had a water access trail. There were lots of bare trees around. The power to the campground went out 2 days in a row. A note notifying us in advance would have been nice. But that was not the case. The state park is pretty far from any stores so bring everything you may need. There’s a Walmart 17 miles away in Nogales
Looks great, like a well worth destination for some downtime. We'll be back!
Great park, spaces are large, lake is nice, close to Nogales , and Sonoita . Lots of shade trees. They now have floating toilets around the lake. There is also a cool bridge that crosses over the marina area which is lit up at night. Boats and floaty toys welcome, water is usually perfect for swimming. Sites are big and have plenty of privacy if you want to cut loose a little, plenty of trail and bird watching. There is a small store that has just about everything you might have forgotten. Fun place no judgement, let loose and have fun. Sad they had to raise the price to 50 it was a good deal at 35, not so much at 50.
What an amazing gem! Our family stayed in a cabin. Although there is no plumbing in the cabins, the public restrooms were nearby and clean. Fantastic views, great walking paths, bird watching, kayaking, etc.

Neat birdwatching place in the middle of nowhere (ha!) started by some locals residents decades ago, and maintained as a free (please donate if you can ) entry experience for all who want to learn about and watch the many beautiful birds of the Arizona southern scrub forest. There’s a shade ramada with benches and chairs near the many hummingbird feeders where folks can sit and enjoy the many avian visitors. I was delighted 👆🏻💫 by near constant sights of different hummingbirds. Bonus: there was a bird expert there helpfully pointing out the different birds for us! And if you’ve worked up an appetite with your birding activities, there’s a BBQ cart across the street. The town of Patagonia looked cute and somewhat quaint and quirky but this writer didn’t have enough time to explore. I came for the hummingbirds!
It was such a wonderful place, and I was able to see 2 species of hummingbirds I've never seen before. Lots of people that are birders visited to. It was nice talking to the other visitors. Would suggest maybe an online store or something where local artists can sell bird and nature items to help raise money to keep improving the location. Also, a brochure with the birds you can see there would have been awesome. I did like the magazines!
Very much enjoyed visit to Paton Center for Hummingbirds. Didn't see many hummingbirds because of the time of year but there were a lot of other birds. The docents were very knowledgeable and I enjoyed speaking with them.
Very nice place to visit and bird watch. Very nice trails and places to sit and watch the birds feed. The live-in resident is very friendly and helpful with lots of bird facts
Was checking out Patagonia and came across the Hummingbird Sanctuary.I love hummingbirds and went and checked it out.Well worth it.
We always seem to luck out and interact with a volunteer from Tucson Bird Alliance. We didn't bring our binoculars with us, but they have some available to borrow. Cat bird, curved bill thrasher, hummingbirds. It was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours.
Had a great time on a short visit. Was there in the heat of the summer. Loved the gardens, saw a lot of hummingbirds, and several others of the local birds. Loved the signage of the history and on the birds you may see. Did a short hike beyond the gardens, went for a short bit and came back. Saw a deer running off in the woods. Would love to come back in cooler weather.
Lovely place! A hidden gem definitely 😊 If you are near don't hesitate to visit. We got to see a couple of hummingbirds and some beautiful birds. My daughter ready enjoyed watching the squirls gathering pecans from the trees 💕 Can't wait to go back on summer 🤗

Beautiful hike and we had great luck viewing wildlife: had Javelina on the path in front of us, saw several Coues White-tailed deer, and a Peregrine falcon in a tree that watched our approach then flew away. Beautiful!! The earthy smell all around us was wonderful, as were the changing yellow leaves on some of the trees. The Fremont Cottonwood trees were amazing with their huge, wide trunks!! The volunteers were helpful with tips for the hike and explaining the map we got to take with us. Well worth the $8 entrance fee!
This is an amazing place to spend an hour or the whole day. With well cared for trails, super helpful and knowledgeable volunteers, Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve is well worth a visit. And the birds aren't shabby either! 🐦‍⬛🦃😍
Went for a day of birdwatching and were enthralled by the gigantic trees, the running creek, as well as the birds and critters. The volunteer who greeted us was very informative, the $8 fee well worth it. We brought lunch and picnicked there after our adventure. Had a great day!
Excellent birding and nature preserve. Several unique hummingbird species including the rare Violet-crowned can be seen at the feeding stations.
This is the most beautiful drive from Tucson (approx. 60 or so miles). Primarily ranches along the way. The little town of Patagonia is an absolute gem. We also stopped quickly in Sonoita.
Beautiful weather in November. A very nice place to follow trails along a creek and old growth trees.
Looked interesting. They closed at 4pm on a Sunday. We got there after 5pm. Closed on Monday and Tuesday! Oh well, maybe next time. Woods and trees along road to this place had lots of birds, but very few places to park. Saw phainopepla!
Excellently maintained trails and interpretive signage at the entry and throughout the birding and wildlife preserve. We met John while he was doing bird counts. He was very generous with his time and guided me through my fledgling use of the Merlin app for bird identification. Peggy graciously answered questions at the welcome area. The trails are easy and numerous. You can walk to the Paton Center for Hummingbirds. Benches everywhere for birding or just resting in a beautiful place. Allow at least 1hour for a taste of this excellent preserve, much more and multiple visits, if you have accommodations in the area. Early hours are best but birds were abundant at mid-day. Watch website for closures.

Best Valentine date ever! We stopped at The Steak Out in Sonoita for a wonderful dinner and then drove another hour down to the lake for camping and fishing. We got to the campground just after dark and saw dozens of deer! And the sky appeared so low with a thick conglomerance of stars. 'Someone' had forgotten to bring the tent. 🙄 Whatever. I didn't even complain at him. We didn't make this trip for complaints. Everything was fine, LoL! So we had a night of 'adventure sleeping' in the truck. Not exactly comfy, but it was 30° outside with the wind roaring! It even rained for a little while. At least the truck was warm and dry and we still had our sleeping bags and pillows. It was fine. Everything was fine. Then at around sunrise, we got bundled up and trudged down to the lake. The fish were not awake yet. They didn't start biting until around 10am. But by the end of the day, we had seven delicious trout hanging from our stringer. The lake is beautiful and quiet with friendly campers and a few boaters. They had stocked the trout the previous weekend and the fishing was good. There are plenty of restrooms up the hill near the campsites. Yeah, it's a long walk up to the bathroom and back down to the lake. My legs were aching the next day. Overall, it was a fun getaway and a much-needed retreat!
Very nice lake for paddle boarding and wildlife viewing. Plenty of birds, deer and frogs to view. The drive is easy, but you will have minimal cell signal. 8 dollar day pass for the lake, cash and credit cards are accepted. There is a marina shop and they rent life jackets for 5 dollars a day (mandatory to have them on your board/craft). There are kayak rentals. Around 100 minutes from Tucson - highly recommend
I love this lake, it's so beautiful and the weather is perfect. This is a place to escape, you can see the hawks really close because of the high elevation. It's a drive to get there, the lake is located on top of a mountain in a residential town. You can rent boats to fish, kayaks, boards, and fishing license. You can swim in the lake, and a good camping site. Bathrooms are available, you have no phone reception. The drive is worth the scenery.
Most of their boat rentals are broken and truly not anywhere to swim. Only paid parking. Beautiful views and most people only fish here.
I love the lake, the quiet, not too busy, especially during the weekdays. Has fishing, boating, swimming, and a very cute lake store. You can rent boats. Pay for your camping or day use with a machine. Love it! You can pay with cash if wanted. I loved the views! Mountains, Lake, just breathtaking. Has water for you to use, restrooms, which were very clean, new blue water. There are not a lot of squirrels like other places. So dogs aren't constantly chasing them. There's no shade over tables, but there's plenty of shade with the trees around. It gets cold at night, but very nice during the day. Bring wood, not a lot of wood there. RVs, tents, etc. Fishing for trout!! I didn't realize I was so close to Mexico. There was a crazy bird making noise most of the night, but other than that, it was very quiet.
This is a great little lake that is tucked away in the hills.
We camped here for a weekend and it's a great view of the lake from the campsite, depending on which campsite you get. No reservations, but it wasn't very busy, since it wasn't a holiday. Paying is at the campsite sign with an envelope. There's a place to have a campfire at your campsite, the marina sells wood. The lake has rentals for kayaks, tandem kayak, peddle boats, canoes and small motor boats which was a lot of fun. The people at the marina are really nice. The reason for 2 stars is the bathrooms. They were horrendous. I know it's camping, but this was the worst we have been too. None of them were kept up or treated with chemicals, so the smell was so bad, no one wanted to go in. For this reason we won't go back.
My family surprised me with a trip here on Father's Day which was also a small day get away for my 41st birthday, this is my honest assessment. The views were amazing, rolling hills around, clouds in the sky, wildlife all over the place and the water looked pretty cool as well. We were able to snag a table in the shade, if you go and want a table in shade on the overlook I highly recommend you get there early. The boat rentals we decently priced. My kids and wife took a paddle boat out for 1.5 hours on the lake, jumped off it into the lake, swam and created some great memories! We actually purchased a 2 hour ride, but the guy on the dock said we could take a break, come back and finish the rest of our time if we wanted. I have you get children 6, 7, 8 so naturally they got hungry and needed to use the bathroom. So when the offer was made for them to hop off and return to finish their time later we were happy to do it.... When we asked, how will we know when the time is up or when to come back, he literally did not have an answer for us. So I told him I would start a timer and come over to the dock to signal my wife when the time was up or they would come back when they were ready for the break. We had lunch by the overlook, talking about their experiences and as a dad seeing their faces light up with joy really made the trip worth it. Now when it came time to get back on the paddle boat and finish the last 30 minutes or so, all of a sudden the gentleman at the dock got amnesia about what he told us in regards to the break. He had mistakenly given incorrect information, but was unwilling to admit to it even tho my wife, all 3 kids and myself heard him say we could come back and finish the ride. He then reached out to the tackle shop where we paid to rent the paddle boat and asked "how much time we had left?" And the shop responded our time was finished at 1pm, it was 1:30pm. I was directed to go and talk to the guy running the tackle shop so I did. He very rudely brushed off what I told him his guy at the dock said about us being able to return, told me they would not extend the time and gave me a very sarcastic, loud and rude "Sorry Pal!" As he giggled. I didn't think it was funny, I also thought the customer service was generally good until this occurred in front of the tackle shop manager and dock workers friends/family. Them as well as the people sitting on a boat at the dock with the dog worker seemed to find this all amusing while my kids sadly walked away unable to finish their paddle boat time. All in all I will not be able to return here based on the experience but you can have a good time here. I'm always fair in my assessments of a business and their customer service. Personally I would go to Patagonia Lake.

Loved the scenic pull off, we stopped for lunch. Eerie feeling that the Rocks could come tumbling down at any minute.
Great little place to sit back and picnic, I just wish there were more places to eat and a grill, and the highway next to it can be a bit loud, but I would definitely go back
Supposedly a legendary spot for rare birds. I didn't see hardly anything here. Recommend sticking to Paton and Patagonia Lake.
Great rest stop, shouldn't of pitched my tent...😉
It is beautiful, but there are no facilities.
Not alot here but a nice shady spot to stop
Relaxing n very nice bird sanctuary 👌🏼

First time to Patagonia and will definitely plan a weekend exploration trip next time. Absolutely LOVED it here !!
This charming little community history museum is run by volunteers and funded by donations. There is no entry fee, but donations are encouraged and appreciated. I'm glad this place is here to keep local history alive. It's one of the top places you should visit in Patagonia.
Great little community museum. It is the town's old elementary school and has exhibits on education, mining, ranching and various organizations.
I visited here for a light activity on a rest day while hiking the Arizona Trail. Museum highlights local events. Many of them are almost laughable because practically none of them would be newsworthy in a larger town. Overall, it is a quaint throwback to bygone times. Free entrance is a plus.
I loved all the history that was lovingly put into this museum. And as a teacher on the East coast, the fact that this historical building was an actual, living elementary school not too long ago, made it even better. Plus, the docents are the nicest people around. Enjoy!
So very interesting! A must visit!!!
Wow, what a wonderful time-capsule of a place. A small yet captivating school turned museum as of 2014. You will encounter an abundance of photos, journals, and Nancy the history rich dosent. A must for anyone passing through Patagonia.
So much history on the area and locals! Well done Patagonia! We're going to be back!

The visitor’s center was closed when we arrived but the outside was welcoming with a brightly colored bench and great signage. Walking through the town we experienced pleasant conversations, petted dogs, and enjoyed the small town atmosphere. Plenty of parking, restaurants, and local groceries to meet you gastrointestinal needs.

One of my favorite places to visit! Heavenly!
This type of grassland used to extend further across Arizona and New Mexico. Overgrazing of cattle brought down the grass and allowed tougher thorn bushes to take over. Some of the best grasslands that are preserved in Southern Arizona are private ranchos the owners took care of.
This is one of the most beautiful valleys I've been in and love to spend time here. It's so peaceful.
Its amazing the beauty you can find out in the desert. You won't be disappointed.
This area is like stepping into the dream world.
