Awesome rest stop welcome center! Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about tourist options throughout the state. Property, bathrooms and common areas were clean and well maintained. Amenities include but not limited to playground, dog areas, picnic areas, vending machines and lots of travel information. I had 3 bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming, no wifi and 4 OTA television channels. As always, I left my area cleaner than when I arrived. Thanks to the state of Maryland for allowing me to overnight.
Clean and well maintained I stop here frequently in my travels. Between last night and this morning I spotted a black cat looking around here, either looking for it's people or food? I've not seen it here before and think it might have been dumped. Someone please help this fur baby! I left it some food but I didn't see it again. Probably due to several folks walking their doggies this morning. Last I spotted her/him was near this pond directly behind the Welcome Center March 9, 2025.
As welcome centers go this one is above average..There are FEW rest stops on 29 and 15..Its historic and only a few miles away from Gettysburg.
Such a nice place to take a 10 minute break. The views and welcome center are worth the stop! They have some vending machines but I would encourage you to stop in downtown Frederick and hit up a local restaurant!
This rest area and welcome center is a great stop to use the rest room as they were clean. They have vending machines for snacks. There are charging stations for electric vehicles. A playground for the children and picnic tables. The grounds were very clean and had an indoor welcome area that was manned for guidance if you needed information about Maryland and places to visit.
This is a conveniently located rest area along 15 south and near Gettysburg Maryland. It has beautiful overlooks, vending machines and a large parking lot.
This was a very nice welcome center with a lot of history inside of it, plus pamphlets of what to be able to do in the state. One of the nicer visitor center so that I had visited while traveling cross country. Loved the fact that this is the only visitor center that I've ever found that has a playground for kids.
Very informative visitor center. Hey there's bathrooms and a working pay phone! $1 for 4 minutes. Lady inside was very nice. Stop on in.

We stopped going to Church when we moved to Harrisburg. This shrine is on list of Catholic Pilgrimage sites in America so we went to check it out as well as visit the Lourdes grotto replica a mile away. This is a lovely church and I enjoyed the serenity of the mass along with the light coming in through the windows. My usual church in Alexandria, VA was dark. The museum exhibits about the first American saint, St Elizabeth Seton are also nice along with the gift shop.
Very pleasant grounds, a very peaceful shrine, and an informative museum about the life of St. Elizabeth Seton. They even had a 1970's living room with the coverage of her canonization playing continuously. We are happy that we stopped.
We were here to celebrate her 50th year canonization and it was a very beautiful experience. Newly renovated, tons of parking, nice gift shop and sisters who are very warm. Make it a pilgrimage to visit where Mother Seton was and learn about her legacy. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us!
A place of peace and quiet. I can really reflect on my faith and spend time in prayer without interruptions. Very spiritual 🙏
Me and my wife love to visit the shrine of Mother Seton, it brings such inner peace to us both that we visit every few months just since it makes us feel so wonderfully. The new exhibit is amazing and tells of Mother Setons life, worth every minute.
Beautiful Catholic Shrine. This was our second visit. Lovely after 50 years. Learning about St Seton. Great gift shop.
Beautiful and informative Shrine dedicated to American's first saint. The chapel is a work of art by itself as well.
We paused here on our way to Gettysburg. It was a cold and blustery day, which prevented us from touring the grounds. But the shrine was beautiful, and we were pleased to see a large group of school kids on a group tour. The museum was full of great artifacts, relics, photos, etc. The gift shop staff was lovely.

I came here 18 years ago when I was trying to conceive. I really believe the Virgin Mary and God have blessed me with the most wonderful life. I have become a Lapsed Catholic but started to reflect on my faith with recent Pope Francis news. I am now donating monthly to wonderful Catholic Relief Services because they are no longer getting federal funds. I came here to visit yesterday and it was a perfect sunny winter day with many Catholics visiting. We went to Mass first at the St Elizabeth Seton Shrine, here, and then went to eat seafood in town. We walked here and looked at the new statues & stations of the Cross along the pathway that weren't here 18 years ago. We also got water from the Grotto. I love this place. It is serene and beautiful. It will look gorgeous in the summer.
What an incredible place and the view from the top is just nothing short of stunning! Not only the journey up Route 15 to the shrine and grotto, but the walk through the gardens with the stations of the cross as well as many places to stop and pray to the Saints before you get to the actual grotto… it was just magnificent. On the way back down the path, we stopped and fill containers with the holy water that had been blessed. Plan on making a day of it, make sure to bring water, plenty of water and some snack, snacks or lunch and catch the view.
Past this place for many years on roadtrips and finally found time to stop and glad I did. Very serene feeling and very quiet unless a service is going on in the grottoes
The National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes is a truly blessed and breathtaking place, filled with the peace and presence of God. It’s a beautiful refuge for prayer, reflection, and deep spiritual renewal. From the moment you step onto the grounds, you can sense the holiness of this sacred site. The natural beauty surrounding the grotto, along with the lovingly maintained pathways and statues, reflects the devotion and reverence poured into this holy place. Every detail draws your heart closer to God and His Mother. The atmosphere here is one of profound serenity, inviting every visitor to pause, pray, and encounter the love of Christ through the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes. It’s a powerful reminder of God’s mercy and the comfort of the Blessed Mother. Though it is a Catholic shrine, all are welcome to experience the peace and grace that radiates here. Whether you come seeking healing, offering thanksgiving, or simply looking for quiet time with the Lord, this is a beautiful place to pray and be renewed in spirit.
I'm not Catholic, but my trip here was amazing. I was driving and decided to stop after seeing the sign. There weren't any other people there, so the place was silent and free for me to walk around. There are a lot of trails with statues along the way to aid you in your prayers, including many which are fairly secluded in the woods. Also has a nice gift shop where I bought some very fragrant incense!
It is generally a peaceful place for the faithful to come and pray and be one with God. The one thing I would suggest is the begging for donations is excessive. It makes those who cannot afford them feel guilty. There should be one donations box and that’s it. Even those who are struggling right now have a right to commune with God.
The Grotto of the National Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is a special place for prayer. ❤️ I went with family and friends, everyone loved visiting the sanctuary. I scheduled myself to attend the mass on Saturday at 12:00 PM. It was a wonderful moment. The priest made a blessed homily. I recommend to go and meet and practice worship and mass. It has a store with several souvenirs to buy as a souvenir or give as a gift to someone special.
This is a magical place, you feel the love and light walking this paths. I was able to get some of the spring water and refresh my face and head with it .

Love it here. Worth going if you have never had a chance. Great to be with a like mindset.
We weren't sure what to expect when we decided to check this out and were in for a surprise. You pull up and are met by armed guards. Three for us. They asked lots of questions, had us get out, and searched the vehicle to be sure there were no weapons. We then went to a guard building and went through a metal detector and filled out paperwork. We left our driver's license with the guard. We were given a map and told to stay in the highlighted area ONLY! This memorial is in the National Emergency Training Center in Maryland. Very humbling memorial. Thank you to those who serve and protect and those who lost their lives doing so.

While on a federal facility, the 9/11 Firefighters Memorial is still accessible to the public. I want to start by apologizing. I was so overwhelmed by this memorial, I forgot to take a picture. Inna few paragraphs I will explain why I took the pics I did. I was met at the gate by Officer Joy, who was as an absolute JOY 🤩 He took my id, gave the car a quick but thorough search, and directed me to a visitor building for metal detector screening and gave me a visitor badge. *This beautiful memorial is federal facility so please approach with respect and without weapons or drugs in the car--AND DO NOT TAKE PICS OF ANYTHING BUT THE MEMORIAL.* One piece of feedback For FEMA: The last time I visited this memorial was almost 20 years ago when I was badged to be on base, but the flag that currently flies IS NOT TO SCALE ANYMORE. As someone who has 20 years dated experience with FEMA contracting, imma say the procurement officer didn’t make a mindful and careful purchase of the RIGHT SIZED FLAG for these giant statues. Please remedy. Thank you ALL FEMA employees for your service to our nation, (Even those that don't check the dimensions on the original purchase order --we still love you for your commitment to the mission and country :) And, on that note, be sure to visit the memorial for FEMA civilians who dedicated their live to serving those in need after disaster--many who perished alongside badged officers, agents, Firefighters. (Side note: when I die, cremate my body and spread the ash at this memorial. It honors people like me, and I'm so proud to suggest you Google a man And nothing but gratitude and appreciation for every first responder who ran towards the fire that day, but especially for the fallen. They are American heros. Please honor them.
It was a really nice place to visit and honor our fallen firefighters who have killed on the line of duty and serving our communities
The memorial is extremely well done and respectful. Does a tremendous job in honoring fallen firefighters from throughout the country. It is arranged by year and state and in interpretive area makes it easy to locate the names of fallen firefighters. It is maintained extremely well.
The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial is built within the walls of the National Fire Rescue and Emergency Training Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland. It is also the home of the Federal Emergency Management Agency or (FEMA) as well. This very impressive memorial dedicated to the memories of all of the fire and rescue personnel, career, and volunteer from across the country who have lost their lives in the line of duty while selflessly serving their communities. As a career firefighter who has lost co-worker's who we're also friends of mine in the line of duty, it is comforting to know that their is a place that not only their families but my other co-worker's and I can all go to pay our respects to them and their memories. If you are ever in the area, it is definitely a place that you should visit and pay your respects.
Exemplary educational programs, outstanding food and clean , well maintained dormitories. The staff provide outstanding services to the students! It’s a shame that the facilities are under utilized.

A friend recommended this place to me. There are almost an overwhelming number of stalls (we are able-bodied, and spent four hours here) and compared to nearby similar places, pricing was fair or even a little cheaper. It is a little "close" in places, so if you require a wheelchair of walker, aisles will be fine, but many booths you will need help accessing. I especially loved the various seating areas. Photos are random displays I liked, so not enormously helpful in overall view maybe. Anyway, I'll be back to do it counter-clockwise, as there was so much there I think we missed some.
I have been here a couple times and on my second visit, I have decided I Quite like this antique store. I saw a lot of really cool things, many I hadn’t seen before or at least hadn’t seen in a very long time. I honestly wish I had come here earlier in the day instead of so close to closing, because the place is absolutely huge! Kinda felt a little rushed out the door but that’s on me. I even managed to find something from Expo 67, The Montreal Quebec Canada World’s Fair. Marking my first acquisition from an international Fair 🇨🇦. I had a lot of fun in the short time I was there and definitely plan on coming back. If you like antiques and vintage things, I definitely recommend this place.
The Emmitsburg Antique Mall is a hidden gem for vintage enthusiasts and treasure hunters. With over 34,000 square feet of space, it features a wide variety of antiques, collectibles, and unique items from multiple vendors. The mall is well-organized, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Whether you’re looking for furniture, vintage decor, or rare finds, this spot offers something for everyone. It’s a must-visit for anyone exploring Emmitsburg!
Stopped here on our way from Dulles to Gettysburg. Plenty to look at- huge variety of items many at very affordable prices. Well worth the stop.
No particular things interested but it is very easy to walk around.
Very nice venue with tons of sellers and great prices. Some things fit more "vintage" than antique (saw some toy lightsabers that are maybe 10 years old) but that's pretty normal. Bonus points for the layout, which is much less cramped than these multi-seller antique bazaars/malls sometimes are. Staff are friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.
We got here 45 minutes before closing. Couldn't cover the whole store, so many treasures hidden in plain sight. Very friendly staff
Very nice place to find those treasures your looking for

Love this place. It's family owned by the same family since the 70's or 80's. Food is freshly prepared. My favorite is the shrimp salad sub and the onion rings! Wings are awesome as well. Great drinks and they are huge supporters of our first responders. Stop in and enjoy!!
Arrived mid-week at lunch time. Sign displayed mentioned staff shortage and to please be patient. Seated ourselves. Got our own menus from bar . Wait time was not too bad. Ordered fried fish sandwich with fries and fried oyster sandwich with side of chips. Portions were small and food tasted okay but cooled off quickly
Great neighborhood restaurant. The service was great. If you eat only one thing here - make sure it is the crab dip !
such a gem! wonderful food. wonderful staff and owners. always a great time. very cold beer! prices are also fantastic. get the crab dip and the delicious wings and the grilled turkey on rye.
The Ott House is a favorite stop for us whenever we are in or passing through Emmitsburg. Parking is on street if that bothers you. Food is outstanding. I cannot say that I have ever walked out disappointed. Great prices as well. Staff is always friendly and fast.
This is one of our favorite places to eat, but we had a very bad experience about two months ago that I'm still thinking about every time I want to go back there. We had a waitress we've never had before (and honestly I hope she is not still there). She did not say hi, did not smile, did not say a single thing really. Just acted cold and annoyed. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt, like maybe they're having a bad day or something, but I could tell this was just her personality and she should not be working with the public. It was clear we were there for a birthday and she didn't even say happy birthday or try to make it a special night. All I can do is hope she's no longer working there because the customers don't deserve to be treated like that. Some families save up to go out to a nice dinner and someone like her goes and ruins it. I am one of those people who tips generously, but I had to get up and go outside and leave my father-in-law to deal with the tip because for the first time in my life I wanted to leave the waitress nothing. The food was great as usual, but for everyone's sake I hope that girl found a new job.
Great local establishment. Very friendly and attentive staff. Best crab dip I've ever eaten, highly recommended. Reasonable prices for the quality of food.
The Ott house is a great place to grab a drink or a bite to eat while chatting with friends, watching sports, or shooting pool. The smaller atmosphere makes it less hectic, unless you go on a night that's filled with students. overall, they have great prices for drinks. It was awesome hanging out there with other Mount students in my last year.

Such a very beautiful campus! Staff and the students we met are very nice and helpful. I'm such a proud mom that my daughter is choosing to attend this Mount St. Mary's University. If you get the chance to go make sure to visit the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, it's a very beautiful place. You can walk through a outdoor Sanctionary and it is connected to the campus or you can take a short drive up.
The Grotto is a small spot of heaven here on earth, and it is full of saints and artwork. The glass chapel is breathtaking, and everything is reverent as it should be. It's one of my favorite spots on earth. I have been coming here for 25 years.
Beautiful & stunning school ! My daughter got accepted 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💯💯💯💯💯 Staff & students are so nice & the school always very clean ! Beautiful cathedral just the whole campus is amazing 😉
Beautiful friendly and safe campus tucked along a mountain side and easily accessed from a major highway, close to local airports.
Love the the scenic view. The grotto chapel where Sunday service mass packed with people the time we were there. Nice place to pray and feel the peaceful sanctuary of the Holy place of the mountain.
Beautiful, peaceful as always, we got there after 9 when we left it was getting busy with tours .
Beautiful campus, so much United States and Catholic history
Beautiful garden walkways. This calm serene and meditative environment is one of our favorite places to visit for prayer.

Awesome place if you like fire service history the aherns is fully restored
Museum is good on local F county fire history. Be sure to visit and support the National Fire Heritage Center which shares this space. Call for hours. Emmitsurg is known as FIRETOWN USA and really lives up to its reputation! If you visit Gettysburg, drive south 13 miles on Rt 15 and spend some time in Firetown! No visit should be complete without visiting The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the National Fire Academy campus. Truly. FIRETOWN USA!!!
Nice little museum. Lots of stuff to look at. The staff there were wonderful and picked up on my son's name and asked him, by name, if he wanted to come along and see stuff. He loved the bells.
Small firefighting museum just across the street from the Fallen Firefighters Monument on the FEMA campus, Emmitsburg, Maryland. Beautiful antique fire equipment showing the progression of equipment from leather helmets and leather buckets to more modern gear.
Never visited, would love to. Used to live there when I was younger, many years ago.
Great place to stop. Chip was very helpful with information
