Held my daughter’s wedding ceremony and reception here. Wonderful venue. We also booked all the hotel rooms on property for the event. Katie and the Barboursville team were wonderful!!!!!
We Had an amazing time exploring the Vineyards, tasting all the amazing wine, having dinner at the Palladio, and spending the night in the 1804 Inn in the Octagon Rm. Such a Beautiful place! Can't wait for my Wife and I to go back
Interesting history and very well preserved ruins- glad they kept them and didn't tear them down. Beautiful view of the Vineyard. We were there for the Four County Players- Shakespeare at the Ruins.
Very interesting and historic venue with beautiful views of the Barboursville Vineyards all at no charge.
Very cool to visit this historical landmark on the property of Barboursville Vineyard. Would love to learn more about the history and what it used to look like before the Christmas Day 1884 fire.
Simple ruin of a the governor's old mansion, designed by Thomas Jefferson. It's well preserved, although you can't get particularly close or see in beyond the exterior walls well, presumably due to safety concerns. Particularly beautiful at sunrise, so if you are staying over in the inn or the cottages, it makes for a great short early morning excursion.
We stayed at the 1804 Inn in the Philéo Suite. Everything was luxurious and appointed for the time period. The views, history and story were all explained in depth to help understand the significance of the property. I recommend a tasting. Even if you think you're not a wine person there are SO MANY delicious flavors you can find something to love!! The food was sumptuous. The staff extremely helpful and incredibly friendly!! We were here for our 10th wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint!!
We came here during a weekend afternoon, and this place was not crowded at all. Visitors could just park nearby and walk in without buying any ticket. We planned the trip to visit the vineyard first and then came here. It’s a very short drive. Although there’s no much to see, it’s a nice spot to stop by for a bit if you happen to visit this area. Stopped in for a tasting while doing the wine trail. This place felt less big corporate winery and more mom & pop, which was refreshing. Their wines are delicious. Tasting was only $8, and bottle prices were great, so we left with a couple!
We visited the winery one on 3/15/25 with friends from PA. We have been to the winery on 2 previous occasions and always have enjoyed the tasting experience and the wines. On the above date we again had a pleasant tasting experience with the owner (who is selling the winery and trying to off load some older wines). On the owners recommendation, we purchased 5 bottles of 2015 Norton. We tried a bottled on 3/17/25 and it is undrinkable. My wife does not even think it is usable for cooking. We requested our money back and will see what will happen.
My first, but not last, visit to Burnley Vineyard. This vineyard is family owned and ran. Very friendly and welcoming. It was like going to a friend's home you haven't seen in awhile and catching up with them. I have been to a lot of vineyards and this one had a feeling of being amongst friends, not just a customer. Not only that but the wine is amazing. I have never been able to find a red wine I like. Now I have, Dog Gone Red! The bonus is the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this vineyard. You will not run into people working for a paycheck. You will meet people that care about their wine and you.
This family owned Vinyard was a hidden gem! The interior hasn't changed since they opened in 1976, but the wine was great! We had a wonderful interaction with the owner and winemaker and his mother during our tasting! We ended up with a case of wine that included a few bottles to do a vertical of a several varietals. We will definitely be back!
A wonderful find. Small family owned winery with a chemist wine maker. Each wine is distinctive and better than your average Virginia wine. Tasting room staff are fantastic and dogs are allowed in the tasting room. You should visit!
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! This was the third stop on our Virginia Winery tour, and it was by far our favorite! The wine was absolutely fantastic, and the staff was extremely welcoming! When we pulled up, it has a very rustic feel, and we were excited to see that it was on the second floor of an older building, overlooking the Vineyards. The staff welcomed us very quickly, and immediately we got into a great conversation about where we were from in our backgrounds. Overall the staff made the tasting fantastic, but it was an added bonus because the wine was already amazing! We left with three bottles, and highly recommend this is the stuff on your wine tour! Don't worry that the building doesn't look as though they poured millions of dollars into making it your top spot on the wine tour, just go here for honest-to-goodness great wines, and great conversation! It is no surprise that their wine bottles are covered in medals and awards.
Great wine! The place looks old and outdated, but definitely great wines! Service is great as well
Dawn was an amazing host and very friendly! We learned about the history of the Vinyard and its amazing! Great wines and the Barbera was one of our favorites. Tasting room was comfortable with a nice dog that needed petting haha... highly recommend this stop on your winery tour!

I had an amazing experience at this winery. The wines were fantastic, with a wide variety to choose from. The setting was absolutely stunning, surrounded by the picturesque vineyard and rolling hills. The staff were knowledgeable and welcoming, making the tasting even more enjoyable. It’s a perfect spot for anyone looking to relax and take in some incredible views with a glass of wine in hand!
Excellent wines! I've been to wineries all over California, and Reynard Florence was the best wine tasting experience I've ever had! I'm not a sommelier, but I can tell a quality wine and these were exceptional! Favorite white: Viognier Favorite red: Petit Verdot (hard choice as I loved their Merlot as well) Cozy tasting room right next to their sloping vineyard. The welcoming committee of 2 friendly Corgis greeted us upon alighting from our vehicle, and Michael served us with graciously with delicious wines, pleasant conversation, and helpful local knowledge. We bought a bottle of Viognier and enjoyed it on their shaded, open air deck overlooking the vineyard and lush green valley. They provided us glasses and an insulated wine holder which we happily returned to the tasting room. It was warm, sunny and splendid May afternoon!
We did our first look for our wedding at Reynard Florence Vineyard and it was absolutely perfect. They have gorgeous views of the rolling hills of Virginia at the top of their vineyard and our pictures turned out amazing (shoutout to Amber Mae Photography)! Dee and Roe were so kind and accommodating and we got to serve some of their wine at our wedding. The wine is so good and they have a beautiful space. Highly recommend!
Our final stop on our self- guided winery tour today. We enjoyed award winning wines on the patio with our four-legged companion, Jake!!! He was tuckered out after a long, hot day in wine country!
True hidden gem! Beautiful location and a real small winery. The wine maker was amazing and chatted with us through our whole tasting explaining the wines. Also a great deal trying 8 wines for $15. Must see spot! Will be back!
We hiked nearby trails before heading over to this winery. I had been once years ago and remembered the wines to be very good. So glad we returned because our visit was wonderful. We tried most of their wines and all were delicious. Our favorites were the Chardonnay, Petit Verdot, Cab Franc, and Grenache. We feel like we made new friends there because they and another couple who were "regulars" were so welcoming. If you like exploring Virginia wineries, don't miss this one.
Beautiful!!! Plus, awesome wine! If you want to relax from a long... week of work, this is the place to go ( I highly recommend).
Reynard is a very small winery with absolutely delicious wines. I ended up buying a couple bottles after enjoying their tasting. They are a nice family. Stop by, you'll enjoy it. 🙂

A treasure for Central Virginia. The shows are usually terrific and I am constantly amazed at the talent level. They have two theaters. One, the larger one upstairs. But they also have a smaller intimate black box theater downstairs. Both of them are terrific.
First time going here on Friday night for “The Prom”. It was a fantastic show! Everyone was so nice and welcoming. The performers were so talented with great singing, dancing, and all. They had the crowd very engaged, laughing, and singing. My boyfriend and I will definitely be coming back again!
We went to see "Elf The Musical" today and it was absolutely awesome! I took 6 of my grandchildren, my daughters, and a few other family members! Everyone loved it. Thank you for putting on such a magical performance! ❤️
It was a great experience seeing Picasso at the Lapin Agile at Four County Players (10/11/21)! First time going here and I was blown away. Clean facility, friendly people, high quality production and acting. I look forward to future shows!
Fun and capable community theater. Seems to take on more edgy fare than I've seen from most community theater, which may be good or bad from a particular view point. "Motherhood Out Loud," would certainly indicate that, with a flurry of F bombs in the first act, and strong content throughout. The theater did post a content warning on all materials. There is certainly a community of "insider" regulars, but the staff are still plenty friendly and inviting to new visitors as well. I could not find a bad seat in the house in the smaller black box "cellar" theater; poking my nose in the more traditional upstairs main stage it looked equally well set up. We will certainly be back.
Has a great time last night seeing “Steel Magnolias”…first rate show and lots of fun!
Four County Players is truly a community theater. You walk in through those red doors and you instantly feel at home. Four County Players prepares each season to ensure they have an excellent variety, they then always deliever each show with professional quality!
Awesome small venue theater with tremendous talent!

Best tasting wines in the Charlottesville area (that we have found thus far). To reasonably qualify my opinion, as a stranger the internet- This is my wife’s and my third trip to the Charlottesville area vineyards, and we have drank wine at vineyards around the world. Trust me- you should go to Chestnut Oak.
A lovely place with beautiful views where we celebrated my son's engagement. Many thanks to Sarah.
We had a wonderful time at Chestnut Oak Winery. Started with a red and white flight, both quite enjoyable. Sarah provided a bit of knowledge in the red blend (Bordeaux style) and also let us know that Cab Franc was being planted! A 4-5 year wait for it to reach our lips, but it's starting. Followed by a glass of Euclid and Petit Verdot. Wonderful time.
This winery had a nice private touch. Small awesome tasting room with great seating. The host was great and told us all about the history of the Vinyard.
Our favorite local vineyard and tasting room. Sarah is amazing. Knows the wines, (which are excellent, personal favorite the Euclid white) the area, and always makes us feel welcome. The setting is amazing, views of the Blue Ridge AND the Southwest Mountains, and there is wonderful private outdoor space on the wide lawns bordering the vineyard. We bring our dog every time, and this past Sunday we celebrated Mother's Day with young friends and their 3-year-old. We even got beautiful bouquets from Sarah for the Moms. (The biggest red peony I've ever seen was in mine!) If you like a big spectacle and lots of tourists, this may not be the place for you. No big buses are allowed. Very much an intimate family & friends experience.
Absolutely hands down the best winery in the Charlottesville area. Try their champagne (yes, I know, "sparkling wine"), you will not be disappointed. Their tasting room is gorgeous, and the setting is just lovely. Sarah the host is very friendly, and owner Janet is a wonderful, generous, kind woman-- everything about this place is A+. We love supporting small and local business, but ESPECIALLY woman-owned, small local business!!
Although we have visited the wine trail in that area before, it was the first I saw it on the map and we decided to stop by Chestnut Oak Vineyard. We were very glad we did. Janet, the owner, was very welcoming. We talked about the wines, the history of this vineyard. She had prepared delicious pairings of olives, cheeses and truffles to go with our tastings. The building itself is beautiful. They just finished constructing it not too long ago and the beautiful wine themed mural and the architecture of the building are definitely worth checking out. The wines were excellent. I am always on the lookout for good reds - as they are not that frequent along the East coast, but the Chestnut Oak did not disappoint. Their reds were very good...and so were their whites. I highly recommend to visit this winery - to enjoy the hospitality, the views and the beautiful place. You will be glad you did!
We had a great experience at this private winery. We were happy to visit on a quiet day and were able to have a tasting at the bar by Sara. She is a wonderful addition to our visit because the conversation never stopped. We loved the Tannat and will definitely return.

Very down to earth vineyard with outstanding wine! The Mrs. And I enjoyed a tasting with who I assumed is the owner. Ended up buying 6 bottles of his outstanding reds. We throughly enjoyed our conversations with this gentleman and exchange a few sea-stories too. Thank you Chief!
Great Chambourcins! I visited 03/27/21 with 6 family members as we started our day of wine tasting. I have to admit we hesitated a little bit when we pulled up and saw the building, but we were glad we stayed. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable and has 2 great mixes (2014 & 2015). Would definitely visit again.
My husband and I just had the privilege to enjoy this vineyard. I left really having enjoyed the visit then I went to write a review and saw past reviews. Most are great but there are a couple that weren't. Quite frankly those couple made me wonder what they knew about wine and the wine business. It takes a lot to start a vineyard not just in the farm part of it but the wine making and the creating of a environment where people enjoy the experience. Yes the vineyard is new in the life of vines and as such I'm happy to say I enjoyed the wine he (Mr. Shepard, Jr.) Has this created. I enjoyed the rustic tasting area knowing the industry, I enjoyed his company and am thankful for his service to our country. I will recommend his winery to those I know whom will also appreciate the beginning of a great winery. I look forward to our continued visits. Thank you sir for a lovely experience.
I was super excited to have family get together to celebrate my birthday! We decided to visit several vineyards on route 33, outside of Charlottesville. We had mapped out where we would visit and read the reviews and couldn’t wait to taste all of the amazing wines, according to the reviews that is! After visiting Barboursville vineyard, which was amazing, we moved on to Five oaks, which also had great ratings according to the reviews that is!. What a major disappointment! For starters we were seated in a barn for the tasting after having to walk through a yard full of mud. After being seated for the tasting we were informed that they were out of white wine and only had red wine for the tasting. That would have been ok if they were different types of wine! They were all the same wine! We tasted it cold, then room temperature and then again room temperature just a different year. You would have thought the tasting would have been discounted or at the very least he would have given us the glass to make up for not have any wine to taste and for the atmosphere! Needless to say I will not be visiting there again and I will definitely not recommend it to anyone.
Very weird experience. Not a real tasting room, just four walls and a folding table. Two vintages of the same Chambourcin, each one served chilled and unchilled. Not great wine, would be better utilized in a blend. Honestly we bought a bottle because we felt bad for this vet-owned company and their grapes did not do well this year. Not a cutesy wine tasting experience.
This was our last stop on our wine tour for the day and had the best tasting wine. We enjoyed talking with the owner and learning about his business. A little rough around the edges but a great small winery experience!
New winery with AMAZING wine selection! Loved every wine in the tasting and had trouble deciding. The owner is very knowledgeable and a great educator with a wonderful sense of humor. We will be back!
Visited a few wineries for my sister’s birthday along the rt 33 corridor. We mapped this one into the day. The day was beautiful but weather earlier in the week made it muddy. Given that this was in previous reviews a few pavers leading up to the door would have helped the walk to the far end of the building. The building is completely under construction (ok let’s get to the wine). There were no whites available to taste and only two reds (the same grape but two different years). The tasting was still $5 (consisted of tasting one year cold and then room temp and the second year at room temp). The wine also had chunks of sediment which if lucky you caught before getting into your mouth. Hmmm since we tasted two wines for the same price maybe the glass will be thrown in. NOPE $3. The owner was nice but he did act negatively towards other vineyards when he asked where else we had visited. That was a bit of a let down as the other winery employees talked about wines they liked at other vineyards. Interesting tasting to say the least.
