This place is absolutely amazing. A man who created it passed in 2002, but the hours and hours that he spent show his creativity, his artistic talent, his desire to do more with his life than just watch TV. Millions of items that he has collected are displayed artistically, as well as many things that he created himself as an artist. It was a surprise. I wasn’t expecting it to be this awe-inspiring.
This place unique, fun and quirky. If you like weird and interactive museums, this place is for you. The amount of time, energy and creativity that went into building this place is nothing short of amazing. My family had a wonderful time and would recommend to visit if you are in the area. Quick tips include bring quarters, parking lot is small and tight and wear good shoes as there ants in the gravel after rains.
Amazing collection of miniatures and wood carvings! This is a great place for both young and old. However, there is a lot of uneven flooring, so step carefully and have fun! Also, the admission is reasonable so families, you can afford this. The gift shop is a fantastic collection of some of the most reasonably priced products. The gift shop team are friendly and knowledgeable about the artist, the area, and New Mexico, they were a joy to talk with.
Tinkertown Museum is a very whimsical and enchanting place to visit for children of all ages. The imagination of the artist who built the exhibits by hand is just amazing. Many of the miniatures move, adding excitement to the displays. You can walk through quickly, but then you will miss the details and many of the intetesting stories and articles on the walls. We spent at least 1 1/2 hours at the museum and enjoyed every minute. There is a gift shop on site, as well as a small parking lot.
A must see if you ever go to Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is worth every penny to see these place! To start the owner she is the most friendliest person we met so far! This place is one of the coolest unique places I’ve ever been too! Everything has a story to tell and there is so much to see! I would definitely recommend bringing some quarters for some of the interaction! Don’t forget to visit the resale shop! It has some very reasonable prices and really quiet trinkets!
I only had one other comparable art experience to Tinkertown: in Cuba, we visited the museum of a man who’d made his entire home into mosaic tile artwork. This had the same vibe: a sprawling vision of a single artist’s creativity, in which a whole world is created. Art like this transcends what we normally think of with consuming art: it becomes an experience, a delight, a wonderland. Textured with walls of asphalt and 50,000 bottles, the artwork boasts the creativity of an artist using whatever is at their disposal, alchemizing it all into beauty, folklore, and story. The exhibit is part Wild, Wild West, part carnival, part circus, and all parts magic. I left the museum (after finding a few delightful treasures at the gift shop) thinking about the impact a single imagination can leave behind. While the creator, Ross Ward, sadly passed of Alzheimer’s in 2002, here I am decades later still marveling at his creative work and incomparable vision. It’s a one of a kind, unforgettable experience, and the people working there were incredibly kind and welcoming. I enjoyed all the quarter machines and the wishing well too.
Tinkertown is one of those magical places that never gets old, no matter how many times you’ve been. Every visit brings back so many good memories—walking through those quirky little rooms, peeking at all the tiny handmade details, and feeling like you’ve stepped right into Ross Ward’s wonderfully whimsical brain. It’s hard not to smile knowing how much love and imagination he poured into every corner. We've been coming here for years, and each trip feels like a little time capsule of happiness. You wander, you laugh, you point things out to your friends like you’ve just discovered them for the first time. Even though we have been there many times, we always seem to find something new. And let’s be real—the goodie bags at the end? Always a highlight. Even as adults we always have to buy one, or several for the memories. It's perfect little parting gift that keeps the magic going even after you leave. If you’ve never been, go. If you have been, go again. Some places are worth revisiting forever, and Tinkertown is one of them. You seriously cannot beat the prices at $6 per adult. Its affordable to go back many times.
In all our travels, this was one that ranks as one of the most whimsical and unique - you could easily spend one to two hours here, with or without kids. The photos don't quite do the displays justice... it is well worth the detour (as is the drive to the top of Sandia Crest). Be sure to look for many of the interactive displays - some require a quarter, some do not. And for those that collect smashed pennies, well... you're in luck. I enjoyed the story behind the boat Theodora R and enjoyed reading "Ten Years Behind the Mast" - available at the gift shop.

The Crest is actually a lot more interesting than the gift shop, but it is a pretty little place. The people that work there are all very kind, even got to see a deer on the way down. But since you asked about the gift shop here it is.
I do believe the gift shop is closed but it’s well worth the drive up for the views. If you look close on the way up you might even spot a few Mule Deer.
As it says...it is closed. Toilets open, but they are disgusting. They is no running water to wash hands and the commodes are just the outhouse version. All the land surrounding the "temporarily closed" building is overgrown. The park service still wants $5 to park and see the views. So sad it was in a dilapidated state.
Completely closed and locked up, nothing is open in the cafe or gift shop. For years it was the cutest little spot at the top of the mountain if you didn’t want the busy aspect of the Tram. Sadly this has been closed for years and it shows. The grounds are also lacking and much is falling apart.
Beautiful drive up the mountain. Nice shop too! We enjoyed seeing all of Albuquerque. Nice and clean, with trails for some walking at the top.
Great view for lunch! Pricey of course and the food took a while, but it sure did taste good!
Little cloudy of a day but it was neat to see the clouds roll in and out at the crest. Really great views. Will definitely be back.
Cute little gift shop and snack bar. Big comfy couches to sit and enjoy the view. Local art plus typical souvenirs. A nice place to catch your breath after a long hike along the rim.

I have had the pleasure to play out here a few times. This is a gem for New Mexico. The course is beautifully designed, with stunning views of the Sandia Mountains. The layout is challenging yet fair, offering a great mix of elevation changes and well-placed hazards. The course conditions were impeccable. The fairways are always lush and well-maintained, and the greens were fast and true. Remember it always breaks away from the mountain. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into keeping this course in top shape. The staff were friendly and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed for a great day of golf. One of the highlights was the signature 8th hole, a par 3 with breathtaking scenery that really stands out. The clubhouse is also impressive, with excellent facilities and a welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant has always impressed us with great options that complement the entire experience.
Joe the Manager, Tia the attentive waitress, and the talented culinary team created an unforgettable Mother’s Day Brunch at Paako Golf Club. From the impeccable service to the mouthwatering dishes and breathtaking mountain views, every detail exceeded expectations. Nestled on the scenic far side of the Sandia Mountains, this hidden gem offers one of the finest dining experiences near Albuquerque—at a surprisingly reasonable price. If you haven’t discovered it yet, you’re missing out on the best-kept secret in New Mexico dining.
Paako Golf is an absolutely amazing course—breathtaking views and top-notch conditions. The staff was incredible, especially Morgan. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and taken care of from the start. Great vibes all around. If you’re looking for a premier golf experience in New Mexico, this is it. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!
Gorgeous day at Paako Ridge. The course is immaculate. A great track right up there with Pebble Beach and Spyglass. Make sure and play the correct tees. Don’t be a hero. Hit it straight as sometimes 10 yards offline can find you in the forest. Have fun.
This is our second time at Paako. The first time we played golf and ate lunch and this second time we just came for lunch. We had the mussels, eggs Benedict, chicken friend chicken and eggs, steak and eggs, baked oysters, hamburger, and Cesar salad with a crab cake as a side to my hamburger. The mussels are phenomenal and I definitely recommend trying them. This time they were a little bit spicier but it was amazing! I am not disappointed eating here. Paako has great food and an amazing view. Nice for a date or Sunday brunch.
Restaurant Review Only: Stopped here for lunch on my way from Los Cerrillos and decided to grab a bite to eat. The valet and restaurant staff were very friendly and inviting when I arrived. I chose to sit out on the patio in the shade with a great view of the course. Joe was very attentive and friendly, which added to the nice ambiance. Joe suggested the Lobster Roll, which I ended up getting, and was so glad that I did. The lobster was sweet and tender, and the French fries were fresh along with a nice spicy aioli that i requested. The margarita was nice and refreshing, especially since it was very warm out. I'd love to come back and experience another meal here, and the views can't be beat.
Great conditions, beautiful course with challenging green complexes. Friendly people both in the pro shop and restaurant. Food was excellent with gluten free options which we greatly appreciated! Nice bar area and patio. We’ll definitely return!!
Best Course in New Mexico. We went there last year for a guys trip. Course was incredible and the staff were super welcoming. Amazing pro shop as well. 10 out of 10

an amazing experience! the owners were the sweetest people and bill gave us a tour of the barn! he gave us some hay so we could feed some of the girls and he let us get up close to them! the alpacas were so so sweet and warmed up rather quickly (i got to kiss four of them!! i’m so happy about it)! the girls we got to meet up close were hanna, honor, hope, valentina, and seraphina! we even got to get up close to a few of the males! both the people and their alpacas were a joy to be around!
This place is a hidden gem in the East Mountains. Bill and Kathy are amazing people who have created a truly unique experience with the alpacas. I would suggest Hollywick Farms to people of all ages.
This place is amazing. The owners are sooo nice! Worth the drive to hang out with some alpacas for a bit. They were sheared in may so I hope to go back to see them with a coat.
Fun stop on the way out of town. Learned a lot about alpacas and got to feed them. The store is small but found a couple of items. The owners are very gracious and answered all our questions. I have boys 10 and14 and both found it interesting.
We had a wonderful visit to Hollywick Farms this morning. The owners and wonderful, they are so gracious to share their farm with visitors. We learned so much about alpacas, and even got alpaca kisses. We highly recommend visiting.
Great place and owners are really nice! The alpacas are cute!
A wonderful family farm with great owners. Bill gave so much great information about the alpacas, and was so generous with his time. A wonderful free family opportunity. Also enjoyed the store!
Great experience and enjoyed our memorable visit. Thank you
