Colonial Pemaquid is in the same park as Fort William Henry. Very cool history, Pemaquid was a colonial settlement before Plymouth, and the value export was salted cod! The Colonial part of the park is a museum with a video and many artifacts, the foundations of several buildings from the settlement, and a reconstruction of a fisherman’s (tiny) house from the era. The fort is a reconstruction which is scheduled for repairs in 2023-2024. More cool artifacts and an awesome view.
The fort was awesome….but I have to give this a one star due to the big bearded fellow behind the desk at the entrance of the museum is severely uneducated. The sign at the fort had more knowledge than he does as it knows the laws about service dogs and he does not. He told us no dogs allowed even though the sign at the fort itself said no dogs allowed but service dogs allowed. Our dog who was wearing her service vest with it clearly called out on her vest. He then goes to tell my family that seeing eye dogs are allowed… are you kidding me this guy would make for a better door stop. Long story short check out the fort if you are in the area but don’t waste your time at the museum especially if you have a service dog.
The fact that there were so many artists painting the view should give you an idea of how beautiful it is. Like a New England postcard. Perfect for picnicking. Quiet. The water is so clear. You can rent kayaks and paddleboards. Will definitely visit again.
Fort William Henry is one of the oldest British forts in North America. Add to that the nearby archeological digs and one of the best regional restaurants (The Contented Sole)... Not to mention some spectacular views and nearby beaches and you'll want to make a day of it here. Or, perhaps a week or three.
Neat experience, the site attendant was very friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the museum was closed this time of year (September 24th). But there was a lot of info available in the fort tower itself.
We enjoyed a quiet Kayaking experience and a little meandering in the cemetery, the museum unfortunately wasn't ooen.
Saw the fort and a hand made house from the time period. The park rangers(?) Were extremely knowledgeable. And if the person who is in time period appropriate clothing, please talk to him, because he is amazing in knowledge and skill.
If you're in the Pemaquid Maine area, check out the Bristol Harbor Days. A nice folksy festival that features local artists-vendors, food and you get to go in and climb to the top of the fort-the view was spectacular. We bought local crafts from the area here, listened to great music and on Saturday night..fireworks.

Great place to rent kayaks in the Damariscotta / Muscongus / Pemaquid region. Al and Scott couldn't have been nicer and more helpful! Will most definitely rent from these guys when we return next.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our 4 day sea kayaking trip with Maine Kayak was truly one of the best holidays our family has ever experienced. An unforgettable adventure with memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime. From start to finish, everything was thoughtfully organized and beautifully executed. But what truly made the trip exceptional was Alva, the owner and our guide. His deep knowledge of the coastline, calm leadership, and genuine passion for nature and kayaking elevated every moment. Alva struck the perfect balance of fun, safety, and sharing the history of the area, and went above and beyond to ensure we all felt confident and comfortable on the water. We explored remote islands, paddled along Maine’s stunning coastline, and enjoyed the comfort and charm of inn to inn accommodations each night. We highly recommend Maine Kayak and especially Alva to anyone looking to experience the beauty of the outdoors. We will definitely be back.
Had a great paddle today. They directed us right where to go to see the seals. It was a great value.
I had a fantastic experience with Al and Co. The seascape of Boothbay is stunning and visiting the neighboring islands and the Burnt Island Lighthouse was an idyllic Maine adventure. Accompanied by this team, you are in for a lasting memory (:
Very friendly and accommodating kayak tour service. We took a 2 hr "wildlife" tour that started at 2PM. Our guide, Matt, could not have been more chill or easier to work with. He was very flexible with the start time, gave us a safe place to leave valuables, and helped us get set up with properly fitting splash jackets and life vests. He talked with us about our experience level (we had kids that had never been kayaking before), gave us some basic instruction on land, and led us on an easy, low-chop route around the bay at low tide. We were in 2-person tandem kayaks that seemed to be very high quality. We saw plenty of birds (no seals, unfortunately) but mainly it was just delightfully relaxing. The water was extremely calm, and often only 1-2 feet deep, so our kids were not nervous. Afterwards, Matt gave us some advice on other sights in the area such as Pemaquid Lighthouse.
This was our second 2 day camping trip with Maine Kayak. Hauns was our guide both times. We had an amazing time, learned so much and can't wait to come back again next summer. Maine Kayak was great to work with, they were helpful in finding accommodations near by the night before. They provided good instruction pre trip and provided all the equipment needed. Thank you Maine Kayak, see you again next summer.
We had two wonderful days kayaking with Maine Kayak. Our guide was extremely knowledgable about the history, geology, and wildlife of the area. So fascinating to learn more about Maine's coast! The scenery was spectacular, and we saw Bald Eagles, porpoise, ducks, osprey, and more. Alvah our guide planned the trip to work with the tides, and we lucked out with the weather so that paddling was very easy. The rests were timed perfectly as well. We are simply very happy with our decision to paddle this little section of the Maine coast with Maine Kayak.
Maine Kayak led my group of 12 adults on an overnight island kayaking trip and it was absolutely perfect. After a day of paddling the guides prepared a delicious salmon and chicken dinner on the rocks as the sun went down. We stayed up watching shooting stars and were amazed by the Milky Way spreading across the sky. The stars are incredibly bright from a Maine island. Some of us even woke up early to watch the sun rise over the mainland. The guides were very professional and taught us about the local fishery, wildlife and history, and we even saw a baby seal. A few of the clients had been nervous about kayaking on the ocean, but this was quickly abated as the guides gave clear safety instructions and explained their training and certifications. We were blessed with good weather and spent a couple hours playing (and floating) in the water. We kayaked to a picturesque harbor on the second day for an incredibly fresh lobster feast. We left the trip feeling that we had a truly unique Maine experience. I will absolutely do this again!

Great views from the rocks.
Love this area, have spent many hours looking in the pond for marine life!
Great place to explore tide pools and look for crabs! At high tide though there isn’t much beach real estate. Be prepared to sit on rocks because there’s not much sand.
Excellent place to stop and take in the solitary sound of the ocean without being surrounded by hundreds of people.
Beautiful and peaceful. Fun to look at the ocean critters around low tide
A beautiful and peaceful place. A great place to observe sea life.
Too much rubbish in the water to walk around
My favorite tidal pool.

Hands down the best shop in the area to buy quality, Maine-made arts and crafts. The shop is full of unique items, and the prices are fair. Worth a visit if you're in the Damariscotta area!
Lots of wonderful crafts..very unique shop.
Love this place!!!! All kinds of beautiful crafted items by local people. You can't just walk in and spend 5 minutes. You will be there 1/2 hour or so to check out all the rooms. Staff is very friendly and willing to talk about the artisans.
Wonderful crafters co-op store, featuring various craft items made in Maine by artisans throughout the state. The shop has a great variety of crafts, including jewelry, quilted crafts, photography, prints, and unique craft items. The staff is always friendly and helpful. A must stop any time we visit the area.
Very nice hand made fairs at this fine store. I especially loved the hand made pottery Monstahs from studio 207. Glass, Pottery, water colors, paintings on metal, jewelry, knitted scarves and hats. Quilts, and so much more.
I've stopped here on several occasions looking at the various offerings. Inside you'll find a large variety of crafts, photographs (which are primarily of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and other local places of interest) as well as homemade jellies & jams, quilts, soaps, skin conditioners that are almost all produced in the community. It's truly amazing to see the talent and ingenuity of the craftspeople, photographers and others on display.
Great place to get some unique crafts made by local folks. They have a wide variety, from paintings to soap to chocolates. I bought a mug and a suribachi. Sadly, nearly all souvenirs are made in a third-world country, where they exploit workers and lax labor laws to make a profit. So while these crafts are pricier than sweat shop pottery, you at least KNOW your money is going to a local hobbyist for their original work, not some mass-producing outsourced corporation.
This is a great shop. We were staying in the area and I almost skipped it. I'm really glad I didn't they have a good variety of items. I got a few things I can set aside for Christmas gifts and a few for myself.
