Eldorado Canyon State Park is one of Colorado’s most underrated treasures. Nestled just outside Boulder, this park offers jaw dropping scenery, peaceful hiking trails, and world class rock climbing all wrapped into one unforgettable outdoor experience. From the moment you enter the canyon, you’re surrounded by dramatic cliffs, rushing creek waters, and a sense of calm that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Whether you’re a Colorado local or a visitor looking to escape the city, Eldorado Canyon State Park is a must visit. It’s a place that reminds you how powerful and peaceful nature can be all within just a short drive from Boulder and Denver.
We decided to go here as a last minute idea before we had to take a flight home. We're glad we did because this place was spectacular. The trails circulating the river provided beautiful views of the large rock formations and the small waterfalls. I'm sure there is more to see, but from what I gathered in such a short time, it was a great surprise. If you're looking for a unique place outside of the Rockies, this place will not disappoint.
More 4.5 (due to limitation for senior citizens) but a 5 for those wanting more than a picnic. Less than an hr drive from Denver with beautiful/scenic drive through Superior. Great picnic area/s, Visitor Center, facilities. Staff were 5⭐, even giving our group of seniors a talk, complete with rock samples. Perfect sightseeing and picnic area for senior citizens BUT(!), more than perfect for younger people as there's rock climbing, hiking, fishing and MORE. Fee is $10/vehicle. Drive upon entering Park is a bit tricky and dirt road. Not that bad but, just be aware.
Perfect park to spend the day in. Took my 5 year old who loved every moment of this trip. Great parking and trails, tons of hiking opportunities and picnic tables to share.
Located between Golden and Boulder, west of the 93. Lots of rock formations and popular for rock climbing with very easy access. Do notice, area has seen rather snakes occasionally (not often, but still need to pay attention). There are at least two picnic area with 3 grill racks each capable hosting 24 peoples each on the side of creek. (Close to parking spots) First come first serve no reservation.
Visited 7.16.2022: I'm so happy I picked this trail/system/park by CHANCE! Ubered from my motel in Denver and started walking toward the hills. It was so stunning, perfect weather, seeing groundhogs (?), horses, everyone out running with dogs, rock climbing, slowly hearing the river get closer. I lost cell service down in the valley but a lovely shuttle driver helped me with directions, shared history of the park/area, drove me to Costco to get some food and phone service to get a ride back to the city. It was my first time hiking in Colorado and a dream come true, especially with the nice rain shower in the afternoon :D
Beautiful park. We did the El Dorado trail near the visitor center. That trail was tough, even for experienced hikers! Took about 4 hours for a total of 6.6 miles. Beautiful views of the river at the end. We saw lots of beautiful birds along the way as well.
There are a couple of trails. We encountered a lot of people. Many with dogs. The trail "rattle snake gluch is easy. There is a point where you can see the continental divide.

Great vibes, much history, ancient healing waters, glacier ice cream, what’s not to like?!
Love this spot!! Such a unique pool with an amazing mountain backdrop. Staff is super friendly and welcoming, plus the spring-fed saltwater pool is a lovely change from the usual chlorine. We recommend parking in one of the lower lots (like the one at Marshall Mesa, across from the Shell station) and taking the free Eldo shuttle, with the added bonus of $5 off your entrance ticket. Parking in Eldorado Canyon is always super limited! There were plenty of sun chairs to be had on the pool deck, but the grassy area overlooking the creek seemed like a great option, too. We loved getting ice cream from the snack bar. Showers in the locker room are clean and nice, plus the shallow kiddie pool in one corner of the main pool is an excellent new addition.
If this is not on your Colorado summer bucket list, it should be. Super clean, great bathrooms, wonderful places to set up with friends. Got there right when they opened and had no issue getting a table. Can bring in snacks and drinks so even though the fee is not the cheapest, you can still visit on a budget.
Yesterday, Sunday, we decided to go for a drive and get out of town. We thought we would check out Eldorado Springs since both of us had not been there for many years. Not knowing what to expect, the pavement road ended, and the dirt road began. The drive felt a little funky navigating that narrow road yet there were too many cars to think it was potentially dangerous. The town looked very quaint as we passed an interesting looking museum with sculptures outside on a lower rooftop. Driving along, the mountain views wowed us and we considered driving into the state park. It was sort of like a box canon and absolutely stunningly striking with pine trees everywhere we looked. However, we turned around, parked and decided to check out the old renovated Colorado Springs resort. There was a band playing and they were really good rock ‘n’ roll musicians with a woman singer who had a great voice. Dogs are allowed on leash so Lulu came in with us. There were several regulars there who live just up the hill and they were friendly. Actually, everyone seemed very friendly. A woman with a ball python around her neck let me take her photo and she offered to put it around my neck and I think next time I will do that. I did pet the snake, however, whose name was sequacious. A very sweet snake. We thought that the hotel was open for overnights, however, no longer and it is a day only retreat. The price to swim can be a bit steep however they have senior prices which are very reasonable and if you take the shuttle, they will give you five dollars off as well. As it’s a family place expect lots of kiddos and noise. A really fun and friendly place to go as long as you’re not expecting serenity in quiet soaking. There are other places around for that kind of thing. Colorado is known for multiple Hot Springs to soak in. These springs, although coming from the mountains are not hot, they are warm. Snacks are available, it’s clean and it’s a great place to listen to toe-tapping music.
10/10! Swimming pool was cool with a gorgeous view! Lifeguards were nice & the snack bar staff were nice too!
Live music on a Sunday evening, unpretentious, snack bar with drinnks,$25 entry and 6pm closing located at the entrance on El Dorado Stare park. Free parking if available.$10 parking in the state park. Second level terrace.
Our family has been coming to the pool here for well over a decade. It is our happy place for summer weekends! The bathrooms might then have been a bit sketchy - the resort was built in the 1930's or before and hadn't been upgraded since - but it was a wonderful pool with a super-friendly staff set in an incomparably beautiful setting. Happily, the Eldorado Springs Company decided to renovate the pool. Sadly, it took nearly five years to complete the work, given the complexity of the permitting process - Boulder County, the state acting through the park service and the residents of Eldorado Springs all had competing interests - and the extent of the work to be done was ENORMOUS. HAPPILY, the pool reopened halfway through last summer and the renovations are MAGNIFICENT!! ALL of the character of the old pool has been retained, but everything is now tiptop MODERN. And yes, the staff is still as super-friendly as before! And now, there is even a free shuttle from Boulder (additional pick-up spots in Superior and at the parking lot at the 170 & 93 intersection). Ride the shuttle and you get $5 off the price of admission.
Our family held a memorial for our mother there this week. Erica was amazing! Beautiful setting, everything was exactly as she said it would be. Highly recommend this beautiful new venue. And hope to be there in the future under happier circumstances.
