Beautiful and quiet. It's a little bit of problematic with small children. If you get here go to the top waterfall .
A Hidden Natural Wonderland in Northern Thailand If you’re craving a true escape into untouched nature, Wiang Kosai National Park is an absolute dream. Located between Lampang and Phrae provinces, this national park is still relatively unknown to most tourists—which makes it even more magical. I visited recently, and it completely exceeded my expectations in every way. 🌲 Dense Forests, Waterfalls & Wildlife From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped by lush green forests, the scent of damp earth, and the sound of birds echoing through the trees. The park is covered with rich teak and mixed deciduous forest, giving it a wild, untouched feel. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel connected to the natural world. One of the highlights of my visit was the stunning Mae Koeng Luang and Mae Koeng Noi Waterfalls—multi-tiered falls with crystal-clear water cascading over smooth stones. There are well-marked trails that take you to each tier, and though the hike can get steep in places, it’s absolutely worth it. The views are breathtaking, and the sound of water rushing through the jungle is incredibly soothing. 🐒 A Place to Breathe, Reflect, and Explore I was lucky enough to spot monkeys, butterflies, and a variety of birds during my walk. The biodiversity here is impressive, and because it’s not overly commercialized, you can really enjoy the serenity without crowds or noise. There are also cool viewpoints scattered throughout the park—some offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, others hidden deeper within the trees where you can sit and take it all in. 🏕️ Camping & Facilities If you’re into camping, Wiang Kosai has designated camping areas with basic amenities. You can bring your own tent or rent one on-site. I didn’t camp this time, but I’d love to return and spend a night under the stars—it’s the perfect place for it. There’s also a visitor center near the entrance where the rangers are friendly and can help with maps or tips on where to go based on the season. 🚗 Getting There The park is best reached by car or motorbike. It’s about an hour from Phrae or Lampang, and the drive itself is scenic and enjoyable, especially as you get closer to the park boundaries and the mountains rise around you.
Wiang Kosai National Park protects approximately 410 km² of mountainous tropical forest in the Phi Pan Nam Range, spanning Phrae and Lampang provinces. Key attractions include the multi-tiered Mae Koeng Waterfalls (Luang and Noi), the Mae Chok Hot Spring, and scenic mountaintop viewpoints. The park supports rich forest ecosystems, home to muntjac, squirrels, diverse birdlife, and lush flora. Visitors can enjoy camping, guided woodland hikes, and swimming in natural pools. Facilities include a visitor centre, restrooms, simple food stalls, and camping grounds. Open daily from 08:00 to 16:30. Entry fee is approximately THB 200. Access is via Highway 101 → 11 to Wang Chin, followed by local roads. Ideal for peaceful nature escapes, forest bathing, and camping under cool northern skies.
Parks is closed until 1st of October 2023. Please update your working hours. We took a 3 hour trip here 😁
