Visiting the Tholpavakoothu Kerala Puppetry School was an unforgettable experience! The dedication to preserving this ancient art form is truly inspiring. The intricate shadow puppets and the mesmerizing performances reflect the deep cultural heritage of Kerala. The artists were incredibly welcoming and passionate, patiently explaining the history and techniques behind Tholpavakoothu. It was fascinating to see how tradition meets storytelling in such a creative and immersive way. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a cultural explorer, or someone simply curious about traditional puppetry, this place is a treasure trove of knowledge and artistry. Highly recommended for anyone looking to connect with Kerala's rich cultural roots. Thank you for such a memorable and enriching experience!
Had the absolute pleasure of watching the puppetry show here and spending time with the artist’s family. They explained the art form in detail and demonstrated how it’s performed along with a short private puppetry show. The art form is aesthetically pleasing and culturally significant. We also bought some souvenirs to take home with us. They are a very welcoming and pleasant family, gave us some great suggestions for our palakkad trip. You should certainly check this place out to understand the art form and appreciate its beauty, also to meet the family!
A Unique and Enriching Experience! We visited Tholpavakoothu Kendram with our students as part of an interview for our college magazine — and it turned out to be a truly memorable experience. The team at the Kendram was very welcoming and provided a rich insight into the ancient art of Tholpavakoothu (shadow puppetry), its history, craftsmanship, and cultural significance. Students got the rare opportunity to interact with the artists and witness the intricacies involved in creating and performing this beautiful tradition. It was a perfect blend of learning and cultural appreciation. Highly recommended for educational visits and for anyone interested in Kerala’s traditional performing arts. Looking forward to visiting again!
It was a different experience. This is the first time I watched a shadow puppet show. It's great that the family is carrying on with the family tradition of taking up puppetry and also educating others with our cultural stories.keep doing the good work
To get children away from gadgets these days is tall order. Rajeev sir was able to engage kids with puppetry and patiently explain what it is. I am so grateful to God for blessing me with an amazing opportunity to learn pupetry (Tholpavakutu) from a great family. It's an honour to meet Padmashri Ramachandra Pulavar and learn the skills from him and his sons Rajeev Pulavar Sir and Rahul Pulavar Sir. Amazing workshop with a perfect teaching environment. My family stayed in their home for 3 days and 2 nights. We was extremely lucky to watch they awesome performance overnight in one of the villages. They made sure we are comfortable and safely drove us back in the wee hours. Wow, what and experience! We extend our warm thankfulness to mom and their two daughter in law's for presenting such flavorsome traditional Keralite food. A hospitable and a humble family.
