Salt Spring Saturday Market

The Salt Spring Island Saturday Market is a vibrant, must-see experience! I picked up a jar of incredible Asian chili oil that added serious flavor to everything I cooked that week. Kutatás Wines had a booth with delicious small-batch selections—definitely worth a try. Beyond the shopping, the atmosphere is lively and welcoming. After browsing, I joined a fun group playing Chi Ball in the adjacent Centennial Park. It was such a joyful, energizing way to end the morning. Whether you’re into food, wine, home goods, or community vibes, this market delivers it all.
Sunny and fun, great place for a meet-your-Salt Spring-Maker experience but expect it to be very busy in Summer. You will probably have a better overall experience if you tour the island studios/vendors with a car or e-bike if you have a few days, but some aren’t open to visits and this does concentrate some of them for one-stop shopping. Parking is good but not up to the crowds that come so expect to walk. Plenty of food and drink options nearby, plus more brick and mortar locations in the surrounding town to explore. If you have access to a large contemporary farm market, it’s not as unique as it once was, but it’s always fun seeing different makers.
Probably one of the biggest farmers’ markets I’ve ever been to! And I love farmers’ markets — I’ve visited many around Metro Vancouver, but this one truly stands out. There are so many amazing vendors with fresh produce, local fruits, homemade jams, ciders, and even small-batch moonshine. It’s vibrant, full of local charm, and such a wonderful place to spend a weekend morning — definitely worth the trip!
Nice small town market with many local artisans selling their wares. A wonderful way to experience the island and its people. Highly recommend visiting.
We timed our two-day trip to Salt Spring to include a Saturday so we could visit the weekly market. It was well worth the trip. Tons of vendors selling everything from popsicles to fine jewelry, and a happy, relaxed vibe. Can't wait to return!
Plenty of vendors and stalls filled with goodies- ciders, candles, clothing, food, veggies, eggs, jewelry, crafts and conversation. Perfect spot to view the sailboats & people watch. Tues mkt too.
Definitely the salt spring Island experience distilled into one place. A bustling hub of all kinds of different goods most of which are what you would expect in a farmers market and a great way to support local artisans. Be on the ready for some difficult times to find parking and if you have a pet, there is a dog daycare which I must say was most welcome. In some ways, this is a good place to visit on off days, there is a wonderful playground, beautiful shade trees, and other amenities such as a clean bathroom. Our favourite part was the music entertainment that was frankly, outstanding.
Fantastic little farmers market, lots of great things to buy! You might have to wait in a few lines but it’s worth it!

My girlfriend and I are visiting Salt Spring for a few days. We went to the visitors center in search of hikes and activities around the island. Joan and Elaine were two of the most helpful people we have met so far. Gave us amazing recommendations and shared great stories from their travels around the island. They went above and beyond and have us recommendations for not only Salt Spring but the rest of the island. Absolute delights!
You should never go to Salt Spring Island or any other of the Gulf islands for that matter they are some of the most unwelcoming places to outsiders unless they're robbing you blind. I've lived here for 2 years and it is a well-known fact among locals that they will overcharge anyone who is not a local and treat anyone who hasn't been a local for over 10 years like they're dirt. Generally a bad place all around and you should not support its economy in the slightest.
Helpful volunteers run this place. Very central location. They're super about hanging posters and distributing flyers for Chamber members. When it's empty, you'll get quick service from knowledgeable locals. Sometimes, though, both volunteers will be focused on another customer, and you may need to wait until one notices you and breaks away from the conversation.
It's so heart-warming when you land up in a new place and the people just blow your mind with their jovial nature and empathy. Hats off to the volunteers who work here! They have made a long-lasting impression on me. That aside, great information and detailed brochures available for travellers. You should visit this centre without fail when you come to Salt Springs.
Great map that was useful. Directed us to restaurants. Got a free gift card by a local artist.
Great staff here. Too bad we will never return to Saltspring because of several bad and dangerous drivers on the roads. We were travelling by bike and too many cars were passing on the crest of hills or when oncoming traffic was present. Some were passing dangerously close to us at high speed. I do not recommend cycling on this death trap island.
Lovely staff, ready to help on both occasions. Have to say a special thank you to Clark who was kind enough to drop me and two other visitors to Long Harbour and all because the bus service let us down!
Very helpful ladies manning the counter here. We were inquiring about the Salt Spring flag, and they quickly were asking other people to get us the answer (which is in Victoria, by the way). They will undoubtedly be able to answer whatever Salt Spring questions you have.

A visit to Saltspring Island will take you to Ganges, which is the largest town on the island. Ganges is filled with lots of shopping, cafes and restaurants and each Saturday, from either the first weekend in April or Easter weekend (whichever comes first) through the last Saturday in October, there is a large open air market filled with local crafts and food. Ganges is a wonderful little town to wander around and explore!
Arrive by boat. Two Marina restaurants to choose from within walking distance of the public dock. Tree House Cafe or the Oyster Catcher Seafood Bar and Grill Dockside patio.
The saying on the Statue sums it up .. Ganges Habour and surrounding community really are customer service specialists and even on the busiest days make their customers visitors and locals feel taken care of .. going the extra mile with a smile 😊If you have never taken in the market in Ganges in Saturday’s your missing out tons of local food ,arts , crafts and entertainment.
Found a joint by the side of the road. Smoked it and made love to a mermaid. May not have been weed but i will visit again
Gary the crab guy’s grandson was having a ball chasing float plane’s to chocolate beach!
Very nice experience of kayaking here! Beautiful scenery!

Thank you so much for welcoming atmosphere! We love your arts and we are happy to see them everyday on the walls at our home! All the best to you Jill Louise! We dream to come back. Thank you so much for everything!
A gallery with her own art work! Beautiful! It’s nice to have a souvenir that supports a local artist!
Had a lovely experience, dealing with Carmen. Not only did she take the time to engage in conversation, with me and my partner; she also expressed genuine interest in my artwork. I truly appreciated, all her help. If you are looking to support local artists, this is the place to be. Definitely recommend.
Jill’s paintings are joyful and full of colour. It was very hard to choose, so we bought two, as well as some smaller items as gifts. Jill was welcoming and very willing to talk about her art. She and her gallery were both a delight.
I've visited the gallery and ordered online. The transaction was simple and the shipping was fast! I absolutely love Jill's colourful artwork and I can't stop looking at my newly decorated wall. I will most likely be buying from her again.
Bad service, was interested in buying something (beautiful little wood boat) but the woman was rude and not helpful... (she's not the artist tho, the artist is probably nicer)
Love the art and the cute stories that accompany each individual piece
Not my kind of art but lots of it!

Wonderful staff, attentive, informed and kind. It's a welcoming place for all.
Really a beautiful library! It was welcoming, lots of places to sit and read, free EV charger in the back (by donation). Do drop by and visit.
I love this library and the kind staff! I do have one minor complaint, I find the students that hang out in the "Teen Zone" area to be really loud. I know kids will be kids, but it makes it difficult to focus when reading or working. I really wish the library was more of a quiet space, it feels more like a high school classroom. I hope maybe one day these spaces will be a bit more separate so the noise isn't as disruptive. Other than that this library is awesome!
A beautiful facility which has every book you could wish in the universe… wonderful volunteers and staff. The collection is eclectic, intelligent and wonderfully curated. It is a great library on a great island, full of people who read and appreciate beauty thank you all who make it happen. MCB
Students here in the teen zone are exceptionally loud, no effort whatsoever made to shush them. Otherwise, great library.
Amazing place! Good books.
Kira is a real gem! She not only took the time to find the books I needed her help got me hired. Great library.Thank you so much!
Great library but needs a water fountain!

We appreciated the opportunity to walk along the waterfront boardwalk , view the harbour marine life, view the children involved in the active playground area, sit on the comfortable benches and have restaurants close by and the many shopping opportunities that are easily accessible…this is the venue for Saturday Markey available from April to October…there is plenty of free parking available in the entire area…this was a good place to relax while in Ganges…
Lovely place for the kids to play. The view out over the Harbour is soothing. It's nice that there is a row of small stores right next to the park that serve delicious food.
A very cool little park in Ganges where there is lots for everyone. There is a great play park for the kids, there is a great wooden boardwalk along the waterfront where you can see all the boats and we enjoyed watching a heron feast on his lunch. There are also several memorial displays here for the historian buffs as well. See below pics.
A fun place to go and check out local crafts and foods, or just sit and watch the harbor.
Great playground for kids with a nice view of the water. Public washrooms right by the playground. We were not here on a market day, but would have added to the liveliness. Not much shade over the park when we were there at midday (baby swings were shaded though!), but with the nearby trees there must be some at other times of day, and there was lots of surrounding shade for caregivers to sit.
Awesome little park! Short hike to get there, a little precarious because of the drop on the right hand side while getting there. Saw some crabs, a seal, eagles and a heron!
Oct.6 /2020. Centennial Park. Much the same in the park as it was 10 years ago.Same group of people, different faces. Theres always something happening in the park. Today is Thursday with a farmers market with all kinds of fruits and vegetables for sale.
It was a great time visiting SaltS Spring Island.

This Gallery is one of the special things about Salt Spring, and one of the things that makes Salt Spring special. On my first visit, I was literally stunned. One of the long-represented and featured artists Norval Morrisseau, has an entire wall dedicated to his art in the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario). While I highly recommend a visit to the AGO, you can see great and authentic (!) Morrisseau works at Steffich Gallery. And, Morrisseau isn't the only renowned artist here. There are many others - internationally, nationally and locally renowned. Like Morrisseau at the AGO, you can also find Steffich-featured wind sculpture artist Lyman Whitaker in the capital of Honduras among other locations. Beyond Morrisseau, Steffich also has other exceptional First Nations artists. Salt Spring is a fine art center, and Steffich is at its center. The gallery isn't overwhelming, its just really good. And, the way it spills over into the neighboring Harbor Air waiting lounge is a real joy if you fly out of Ganges. Best airline waiting lounge anywhere thanks to Steffich (and Harbor Air's great staff too of course). Steffich is a must see, top ten attraction. You might even find yourself leaving with some really fine, fine art.
We recently asked Kaeli to help identify a painting we had inherited. Within a day Kaeli had emailed us a complete biography, along with some reference auction results to help us determine the value. Amazing! We had spent the better part of an afternoon trying to decipher the signature, with no luck. Kaeli is an amazing Sherlock Arts Detective. We're getting the painting framed, and will attach the bio to the back for future reference. Thank you Kaeli!
Not your average fine art gallery! The artists and pieces chosen were clearly curated with a brilliant and original lens. The owner Kaeli was very helpful and passionate. Coolest gallery on SS!
I recently held an evening reception at Steffich Fine Art for a group of adults who had been on Salt Spring all week for a professional development course. What a great venue for something like this - with beautiful art to look at as a wonderful bonus! From the time I first asked Kaeli if she was willing to host us, until the last guest left, it was a wonderful experience. Kaeli was so positive and enthusiastic about our event, and was brimming with great suggestions to make it a special time. She recommended an amazing MC (John Bateman) who kept us all laughing, and invited some of her gallery's artists to join us at the reception (very appreciated by our participants). She even had great suggestions for catering (thanks, Auntie Pesto's Restaurant!) and wine. She made all the arrangements, thought of all the little details and was a lovely host - even providing complimentary prints and copies of John's book as door prizes, which were especially appreciated! As our participants said, 'I absolutely loved it', 'the gallery event was fantastic', 'this has made me want to come back to Salt Spring with my family', etc. If you are looking for a place on Salt Spring to hold a unique and sophisticated reception, I can't recommend Steffich Fine Art (and Kaeli) more highly!
Kaeli was an tremendous help with assessing the value of my piece. She was not only extremely helpful but a great conversationalist as well. Although, we’ve never met I felt comfortable talking openly with her. In the future when I need help buying art, she’ll be getting a call from me.
I really appreciate the detailed information that Kaeli provided for me about a number of art works that need to be sold for the estate that I am managing. I will use her suggestions for pricing these pieces and follow her guidance on how to bring sales for each one. Thanks for the research work and for getting back to me with clear and specific directions on how best to proceed. Kind regards, Ron Hall
Went in with my vintage prints during the recent open Antique Roadshow event and received great news! Kaeli was very helpful and responded back quickly with her findings. I would highly recommend the gallery for appraisals.
Steffich Gallery has an outstanding assortment of art. Everything from muted local nature works (to remind you of your visit to Salt Spring), to vintage Rock n Roll posters (to remind you-or your parents-of your wasted youth), to blow-your-socks-off pieces (so you can know who your real friends are). Kaeli gives generous information and the best customer service (even if you’re just a wannabe customer). Enjoy some laughs and mutual inter-dimensional ponderings.

A really wonderful gallery. I bought a piece from Gillian McConnell here that is one of my favourite pieces I own! Olga Szkabarnicki and Nathalie St-Amant also showcase their work here, and both are amazing artists. This gallery is literally my favourite place on Salt Spring. Definitely worth visiting!

We had an amazing experience with Lily yesterday. The store itself is beautiful, and we found everything and more! Lily was so personable and truly made our day - she helped us find crystals and took the time to take out the rings for us to look at and didn't make us feel like we were being a bother - and she even polished them before we left! Love this store and will definitely be back again! Thank you Lily - wouldn't have been the same without you! - Jacob and Joshua :)
We met Wasabi-wabi a gentle giant of a dog who was on the way to help his mom open the store up. We were invited to come to the store when it was open. We went for a walk around town and looped back for more wasabi-wabi pets. The store is amazing and full of so many gems and wonders. We hope that Wasabi-wabi is at the store next time we go back. This is a must see shop!
Beautiful soft energy and knowledgeable staff. If you can’t seem to find that piece of work that you’re looking for, they will gently guide you. No pressure sales. Her intuition and understanding of the many facets of spirituality is amazing. (❤️ Lily)

Overpriced and staff that hover needlessly.
