A great experience! I had not been here in many years. I love the people dressed in the time period costumes. I would highly recommend going into the gift shop when you first enter the building to pick up the $3 numbered descriptions of the buildings. It would’ve really helped me. I didn’t find it until we were leaving. Definitely worth visiting !
We spent the day at this location when we visited the east coast. The guides are available in both English and French. Their knowledge is very much in depth and they can answer any question asked of them. There are restaurants and coffee shops on site. All of the people who work there are in character and provide interesting details of daily life in that time period. A definite must see that would be interesting to young and old alike.
Really a well worth place to visit. If you are a history buff this place will satisfy your curiosity. Make sure to buy a loaf of their bread baked in the historical way. They have walking and motorized tours available for a reasonable price. But you can opt to just pay the admission and check out the place yourself. Don't be shy to talk to the many staff and soldiers who are historical actors, they can explain the way of life back in the day. Very interesting.
Well worth a few hours, at least. Whether you take a guided tour or walkabout on your own, this is an very interesting locale. Veterans get in for free, which was a pleasant surprise. The entrance cost is not great, though, even less during the shoulder seasons.
The Parks Canada staff made this an extraordinary experience. I would recommend taking their walking tour to get a real understanding of what life was like for different people who lived there. We spent six hours there and I could have spent more. For me, it was the highlight of our visit to Nova Scotia.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. OH MY GOSH! Not just the history, but every single person must feel that they have the BEST job on earth because they are just so in character and SO HAPPY to be there and SO kind! It's INCREDIBLE. Definitely cannot see everything in one visit unless your there from open to close. They have a bakery! Get there early! The blacksmith was amazing! It is ALL INCREDIBLE. GO! VISIT! PLAN! STOP READING! This place is amazing!
If there is ANY historical fort you visit in Canada, this should be #1! This was on my bucket list for a long time. Parks Canada has done a magnificent job in reconstructing this early 18th century French fortress. Louisbourg is massive and you should give yourself at least a few hours to go through it. There are many structures and reinactors to help you through your visit. You will have to go to the visitor center, located about 1 km away, and take a shuttle bus to the fortress. A visit to Louisbourg is a must for history buffs.
Feels authentic even though it's a reproduction. Staff is committed to taking you back in time. Site is enormous and could easily take two days. The scavenger hunt espionage quest is fun and a good way to prompt conversations. Guided tour well worth the price. Your dogs will be barking by the time you're done. Thinking about ways to make it more accessible for older visitors would be nice.

When I was there, it was very foggy with mist in the air after a really big thunderstorm, but it was still a very beautiful area with the Louisbourg Lighthouse looking over the ocean crashing against the rocks and cliffs.
It’s very nice, must see. Also a trail to go on.
Nice spot to watch the ocean waves crashing against the rocks and just enjoy the view.
This lighthouse was my favorite of our vacation. We were the only people there, and it had more ambiance than Peggy's Cove, which was overcrowded. Louisbourg was my favorite place on our 10 day vacation to Nova Scotia.
Nice hike, going full length totally worth it!!
Stunning view even in a stormy season! Superb!
Great spot to explore old lighthouses and rocky coastline .
Beautiful place in nice weather. Very windy the day I was there. Rainy and windy. Still a nice place. Small parking area. The road is not the best but not that worst road I have ever been on. Worth the drive. Watch out in a car.

omg, i love it!✨🫢😍🤩
Closed when we were there June 22, 2024. Sign said “open tonight”. Grass overgrown and outside looks abandoned .
Will come back here again when I visit Nova Scotia. Neat building design. The staff were friendly, play was great, and place was kept clean!
Place is intimate and the music was fantastic. They even had oat cakes and tea for intermission though a donation is suggested. All the seats are great.
It's a really neat way to bring the community together. The music was great, people were friendly, and the building was beautiful.
Drove 6 hours return trip to see Robert Bouchard on September 25th, worth every minute.
Great atmosphere ,always great entertainment ,with its very own gift shop on site !.
I actually didn't go here I just stayed nearby but my wife did and she's always telling people it was one of her more memorable times in Nova Scotia.

Beautifully designed new trail along a stunning coastline. Great work by the Coastal Connections Trail Association! Worth the trip!
The restoration of this landmark trail has begun after Hurricane Fiona devastated the area 2 years ago. The first stretch of the trail has been moved inland and widened into a smooth pressed gravel walking path suitable to people of all abilities. It is at times heartbreaking to see the devastation Fiona caused along the shoreline and to the forest. Bits of the original path are visible and signage has not yet been restored. The loop portion has not been addressed and while it is accessible, it is not recommended to walk it as it is missing vital pieces that have washed away. The second part of the trail is a rough hiking trail which has only been restored to the first lookout. After the lookout, the trail is barred by fallen trees and has not been restored. I look forward to seeing the progression of the restoration of this trail as it encorporates Fiona as part of its history.
Clearly suffered a lot of storm damage along the trail. But beautiful. Parks Canada has been hard at work fixing the trail. Widening. It’s in excellent condition. Super easy trail.
My favorite trails to go down when visiting Sydney on Cape Breton. Very easy walk, with the ability to walk closer to rocky cliffs by the sea. Such beauty on this trail. So peaceful as it's not very touristy. A definite must see.
Rugged and beautiful scenery. If you catch it post storm, you will see some amazing swells crashing. One of my favorites!
Love the place. It is gorgeous on any picture shooting here. Dark blue sea with strongly white waves continuously crashing on the rocky shore. Lighthouse looks lonely but stunning, especially in evening sunlight. The wood walk-broads are really cute and benches along the trails are really useful and comfortable. That is not mentioned that there are lots of cranberry red-riping around the lighthouse's standing area in October is interesting for someone love natural foraging activity.
Wonderful access for a lighthouse. I just loved the ocean exploding on the rocks.
Beautiful lighthouse and lots of trails.

Sophia was friendly and helpful. I wish they sell more goods in the gift shop.
Wonderful place. Bad reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. This museum, like many, is admit by donation only. They do the best they can with little funding. Be thankful that they have many volunteers to take care of the place and help keep the doors open to the public. People will find anything to criticize, if thats all they know how to do in the first place. Thank you for the experience Sydney & Louisbourg rail museum
Amazing place. You have to ability to see trains on the island again, and are even allowed to walk and sit in one. There's also tons and tons of unique artifacts from different periods of time from Cape Breton. Absolutely beautiful.
Great little stop to catch-up on local history as well as S & L Railway history. I was completely surprised by the vast amount of information and displays. A real treasure trove of you appreciate history.
It's ok for a museum but they need to put some tlc into it. Paint outside is chipping and flaking off. l the building. The train cars are in a very poor state, falling apart, & rusting badly. Son wanted to see inside but they are all baracades off. I wouldn't even let him touch the trains due to their state. No information outside about what the train cars were or did to read. Inside has a few things to look at. Great for those who want to read but my little son was done since nothing interactive for him to touch. By donation for entrance. Parking lot is big and right off the road. Had a larger building but was locked up. From the window we could see in there looked to be a better condition train car inside. Gift shop was tiny at best?. Had a toy train whistle but nothing else for kids. Keychains, postcards, small things like that.
A hidden gem. A nicely preserved buildings with great exhibits and a few pieces of rolling stock. Gift shop very reasonably priced.
This railway museum is situated inside an original railway station which makes it unique and special. Interesting items, original to the operation of the station are displayed. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Really cool display of antiques and old trains.

Wow, what an amazing place, 100% recommended to go at least once in the life, beautiful, full of history, the traditional bakery and food restaurant were really good, the performances were really good too, the place is beautiful. Advice: go early in the morning because is a place where you will spend all day, the check in place is about 1 mile of the fortress, and there, you will be transported to there on the shuttle, cars are not allowed, so leave your car on one of the parking lots next to the check in building.
Wonderfully recreated fort that retains the history of Louisbourg. Well worth the time to visit, we spent 3+ hours there. The only downside was some confusion as to the need to use the parking lots next to the visitor centre.
A truly magnificent place, steeped in history, starting with its buildings and the on-stage display of characters who give us a glimpse into what that era's way of life was like. I would definitely return again; this was my second visit, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Many congratulations to the park for ensuring that history isn't forgotten, but rather recounted.
I enjoy the rifle shot and the canon fire. There is a lot shows. Very good place to visit. Listen to the tour guide is a must
Very cool with a lot of history. You could spend the entire day there
Great place. Was here when re an actor's where here.seeing how people lived and the way it was,was great experience
Good experience about the fort and history behind it. Nice quaint town.
As far as we could tell, this honestly isn’t much for a visitor centre - they sell tickets and have a small souvenir store that sells a few knick knacks. There are a couple washrooms and that’s about it. Its primary purpose is to hold you until you’re ready to get on a bus to go to the Fort. That said, the staff there were friendly and helpful. And we enjoyed the Fort. But we just passed through the visitor centre to get on a bus. So you have to go through it… wish it were more interesting…

Very nice trail that you should run in good weather. The view is super beautiful, you can also have a picnic in between. Free parking is available right at the entrance.
A very pleasant trail. You can enjoy distant views of Louisburg and lighthouse. Along the way, there are informational signs that narrate the rise and fall of the old town. The round trip takes about 50 minutes.
