Amazing experience! Our guide was a very kind local with deep roots in the area and gave us a lot of information about the history of Cape Breton. The kayak tour itself was very well organized and the location was perfect. Thank you so much to to his wife Jen for the oat cakes (I forgot to get the recipe) and the tea to help our journey to paddle into the ocean. 1000% will recommend to anyone looking for an adventure.
This was such a a great excursion during our trip on the Cabot Trail. Michael was a fantastic guide and provided great commentary on the history of Cape Breton. His knowledge of the area was amazing...he guided us carefully out into the sea, which was a challenge given the waves along the coast. I can't say it was an easy outing, but if you give the 110% as he asks, you will thoroughly enjoy the activity. The cinnamon apple tea and homemade oatcakes during our break before entering the "sea" was amazing. His storytelling is top notch as well. Highly recommend the trip.
Great experience! The booking was straightforward and hassle free. Michael was an excellent guide, pointing out interesting details in the landscape, sharing stories of the area, but also just giving us time to take in the scenery for ourselves. Even though it was a hot day, the temperature on the water was comfortable - and everything seemed to be at our backs, including the tides and the breeze. It was a fantastic few hours!
Great experience of ocean kayaking. Even as experienced paddlers, we appreciated Michael's skillful guiding. He managed a group with a range of abilities with ease. His deep roots and knowledge of the history of the place added depth and context. Expert naturalist.Kept us safe and happy. Great recommendations for things to do in the area. Thanks to Jen for oat cakes.Highly recommend this small, family owned business.
This is a great family owned business in a beautiful area! We rented kayaks for a couple hours but if we were to do it again, we would take a whole day and explore all the tiny beaches and have a picnic. The water was peaceful and the scenery could not be better! There is a change room and a bathroom located on site which was convenient. Life jackets are provided.
A perfect half-day on the water. Cabot Trail Adventures nails the balance: organized, safe, authentic. Michael’s anecdotes grounded us in the place, and the paddle across the bay and around the point was gorgeous and teeming with life. Family-owned, big heart ... highly recommend.
Exceeded expectations. Comfortable pace and variety of views. Great way to get a different perspective on the area. Also enjoyed also hearing some of the history. Appreciated using a local family-run business, and especially being led on our tour by someone whose family has been grounded in this area for many many generations. —Scott Stephan
I did several kayak tours on my trip to Nova Scotia- they were all great but this was my favorite. A beautiful paddle and great instruction and stories by Michael. Cannot recommend this experience enough!

Another lighthouse museum, with a twist. This one is made of cast steel plates, never functioned at its current location and has been moved twice. Interesting story of how the local people fought to get a cherished part of their past returned to the community. An easy detour of the Cabot Trail. You may have to ask to enter the lighthouse. Definitely recommend. Go in and here the story about moving this lighthouse. Sorry, forgot to take pictures.
First, the museum itself is filled with beautiful historical information about St Paul's Island, Graveyard of the Gulf. The island itself is approx 20 km from Cape Breton's shores and 70 km from Cape Ray, Newfoundland. The museum pays tribute to the island and also maintains two Airbnb cottages The Deckhouse and The Lighthouse Keepers House. All of this is overseen by Andrea Rambeau-Fitzgerald who is an expert on the Lighthouse and the island (not to mention the entire area) and manages both cottages. Both have 2 bedrooms and full kitchens. They are cute and comfortable and spotless! Incredible decks overlooking Dingwall Harbour. When you leave...your heart will break a bit until you plan your next visit. Thank you Andrea.
Great little museum. Free admission with a donation box. Very good tour guides. We enjoyed it and the lighthouse as well. Thankyou!
Worth to visit and they have informative and friendly staff who’s knowledgeable about the story behind the St. Paul Island lighthouse and I like their small community.
Cute little museum! We were very warmly attended by the staff, the girls explained to us everything about the loghthouse and St Paul Island. Thank you very much for your work!
The friendly guide was the author of a recently published history of the Island. Very interesting stop.
Wonderful and friendly staff, very Knowledge, worth a stop in for sure.
We had a delightful visit here and learned about the history of lights in Nova Scotia. They had a lovely gift shop and wonderful staff to give us information. They also have cottages for rent and it would be a lovely place to spend several days or at least a weekend. We took lots of beautiful pictures during our visit. Well, worth the journey!
