Temple built in one of the largest caves in Nusa Penida, accessed by a winding staircase.

Unique and special temple! The entrance is very small, so please bear in mind you may not fit if you have a larger body. There is a larger entrance at the back, not sure if you are allowed to enter from that side. This is a big, long cave system that begins with a ceremony and has more areas and ceremonies inside. Sarongs are available at the shop across the street from the stairs.
I would not raccomand it, as I really think they have many others better temples to be visited. When you park nearby the entrance you have a couple of people waiting for you. After they got your attention, whistling at you, they charge you 10K rp to rent the Sarong, and that's ok. Then you climb up a really demaged stairs to reach the main entrance, and over there, there is another group of men asking for an "offer" 100K rp, ther's not any sign so they force you. The entrance of the cave is particular but really narrow so not everyone can get inside. In my point of view the cave is nice, but you would expect something suggestive, instead it turns out to be practically empty. Monks were sitted looking at their phones (formula 1 race) burbing and phlegming. Probably is in their culture but, in the end the feeling is that of having left them money without having had any nice experience in return.
It is a nice place to visit, but mind you that this is a cave, a dark-wet-humid place. Local charged free and for the foreigner is 50k per person. It has some bats and temples inside. If you are lucky you could see the special crab there as they only live there and nowhere else.
This is truly a remarkable site. This is my second best temple on the island. An absolutely magnificent must see. With a hundred and thirty two steps up a very step path opens up to a reward that you can't imagine. Climbing or crawling through a very tight opening within the rock wall gives a new demention to slithering in, especially if your a lil curvaceous as me. Once you crawl your way in the cave entrance it opens up to an epic cave that cuts it way through the mountain to a tiny valley that shows off the surrounding area. The religious folk are so welcoming and dont care about your beliefs as you respect theirs. A must see, must do, with a site that has you appreciating a ceremony that goes on within the cave. Love this place.
Beautiful temple, great to explore the caves you cant really see, heaps bats in them, soo cool, I found at least 4 extra caves to explore, definitely worth the visit, but opening to access is very small, but there is a large back entrance, not sure if you can access it this way thougj
A very interesting place! It costs 10k rupees to rent some cover ups before you enter the temple, and then 50k per person to go in. The monks were very friendly and welcoming. You have to enter the temple through a narrow crevice in the cave, ducking your head as you go, but you're quickly able to stand again.
Foreigners are often asked to make a donation(50k), but try to avoid as it's not mandatory. The place is peaceful and beautiful, definitely worth a visit. If there's a Pooja happening, do try to take part.
Do not miss this if you are at Nusa Penida, the ride from Toyakpakeh is straight and roads are smooth, unlike Gamat Bay or Kelingking ! As is the case with all bali temples, wear the religious white gown, sarong, to cover your legs. It closes before sunset! The entrance is a narrow rock opening, but once inside, the massive cave temple feels magical and serene. The atmosphere is peaceful, with traditional Balinese rituals and offerings adding to the charm. It’s a beautiful blend of nature, culture, and spirituality. A must-visit for those seeking a cultural experience beyond beaches.
