Had an amazing time with Darlene!! Four of us came and she was willing to accommodate a last minute workshop to bead with her (as we totally derailed her initial plan to do some beading for quilling instead 😂). She was informative, gave us a great tour, and was a wonderful person to be around altogether. It was also amazing to just explore the Foundation and learn about its cultural and historical presence. Highly recommend a visit for anyone coming to manitoulin island - they seem to have lots of great workshops all the time! For the important work being done, the cost is practically negligible so definitely recommend donating to support where possible 😊
Lovely visit. Daphne was a patient and knowledgeable instructor and guide. The daily art lessons really allow you to appreciate how labour intensive the different projects are. My 87 year old mother in law and I made two pouches and were grateful to have met such a supportive group of people. If you have time between 10 and 2 pm to drop in for the art lessons ($10 pp) it’s well worth it.
Delighted we stopped and took the time here. It was very informative, to say the least. Got a guided tour by an insider that was so great she took the time. The gallery was closed but there is so much to see. Of impact was the Residential School exhibit. The audio version is so helpful. The display was perfect and pictures were allowed as well. Make sure you stop here.
I have nothing but good things to say about the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation. The facility itself is beautiful with detailed and intentional creation. Its a very welcoming facility with a wonderful group of people who are friendly, helpful, encouraging, and informative. There are many visual and artistic displays and captivating exhibits. There is so much beauty and so much learning to experience here. We participated in one of their daily workshops and ended up coming back 3 more times. We learned the daisy stitch and Darlene was such a joy to be around. She was welcoming and funny and so incredibly patient. On some days they even provide a dinner or breakfast during the workshop that the staff makes together. They put so much time and dedication into everything they do and they dont charge for it. If you can, I'd recommend donating to the OCF or the art center in appreciation for all they do. They have a very easy QR code you can use for donating by the entry door.
We enjoyed our visit here, the art pieces and the information about the residential school. We were however hoping for more information about the Ojibwe tribe and their history on Manitoulin Island, and were confused by different opening hours listed online vs at the building. We would have liked to have joined in on a beading workshop too but this would have been too difficult with our toddler and baby there too.
What an amazing spot to spend a few hours, learn some indigenous history, and have an opportunity to learn about and try some handcrafts. A very powerful experience for our family with our two younger kids (7 and 9). They also have a wonderful gift shop with beautiful art and handcrafts.
We got to the island almost at the same time as the cultural foundation was closing but as we got there, a bus of tourists arrived, not knowing what was going on, we followed the crowd and ended up crashing the program organized for the tour. It was obvious that we were not part of the tour but the staff were generous and kind to let us follow along and learn about everything they had prepared for the tour. Loved every part of the experience. The staff is amazing, proud of their culture and open to teach you all about Ojibwe culture and traditions. Miigwech to the staff for the amazing experience
What a beautiful and important place to visit. My friend and I got a tour of the studio and learned all about porcupine quills, leather, pottery, beading, and so much more. Everybody that works here has such a passion for sharing and continuing their work. Highly recommend visiting.

A great place to shop for locally made crafts and indigenous art. The museum section in the back has a fabulous collection of quill boxes, artifacts and traditional ceremonial costumes. Picked up some beautiful gifts!
I really enjoyed Lillians. I had the pleasure of seeing the most beautiful drum ive ever seen! Absolutely stunning!! The staff member was really kind , paitent and helpful. Good expereince and would highly recommend this as one of the stop(s) you make along the way. Gorgeous craft and artwork.
Good to visit and check out the collections!!
Tucked in at the back of the store is a room housing a beautiful collection of native art! Each piece is more intricate and complex than the last. Go in just for the astounding collection of quill work and woven baskets… and still there is more!
It has a great deal of souvenirs, moccasins, porcupine quills boxes but also has an incredible museum in the back room. I found some unique books too. It's worth the stop.
Beautiful shop. Wish we had more time to explore and find a treasure to take back home with us. So recommendation is, give it some time. Nice swimming beach behind.
Not only interesting for all the handcrafted goods, also for learning about the history.
We've been going here for years love this place.

Beautiful art gallery with lots of Ann's art. She was so welcoming and shared a lot of her stories and inspiration behind the pieces. Some have travelled far and wide to be displayed! She also displays art from her husband, daughter, and other local artists. Call before going as the hours seem to vary!
Very nice independently owned gallery
Great scenery, wonderful artwork
