Amazing park with very good guide. You can see a lot of different species of lemurs, Baobab tree, trutles, bamboo, national tree of Madagascar, also their restaurant is so good especially the coffee with the condensed milk and the caramelized banana and also the gift shop have a lot to offer for reasonable prices
One of my favourite animal experiences ever! Jonathan was very insightful and a knowledgeable guide. We saw so many different types of lemurs and the biodiversity is incredible. Would definitely recommend! It was cash only when we were there so be prepared to not have any phone service or ability to pay with card.
Great place to see lemurs semi wild. They are not in cages and you are guaranteed to see 6 or 7 different species. Our guide was very knowledgeable. Well worth the visit if you have a few hours to kill in Tana. Please note the park does not accept cards.
Our first day I Madagascar and we wanted to take it easy. This was a perfect place to start. Lovely reserve, well kept with great flora and lemurs in the wild. Our guide was very knowledgeable, not just about Lemurs, and everyone was outstandingly friendly. Very big portions of tasty food too and a nice gift shop.
Definitely worth the drive from Antananarivo! This is what zoos should be like. Animals in their natural habitat while still being able to see them up close. Would totally recommend!
Paradise and Hell + Beautiful, well-maintained park with 8 different species of lemurs. Competent and friendly staff, and the guides speak English. There is a café and a souvenir shop. - The road is HELL! From Novotel (29 km away) it took us 2.5 hours one way, a total of 5 hours on the road because of traffic jams.
I think if you come to Madagascar / Antanarivo you really should consider coming to this privately owned park where the mission is to look after lemurs (often relinquished from private owners). The lemurs here are quite habituated to people and can be viewed up close without a cage. In the wild they can be considerably more elusive. The guides are knowledgeable and conduct tours at your pace. It's a bit out of town, but spend the time, take on the fresh air and make a day trip. There is a deck with a restaurant and drinks
It was an amazing experience, the staff and the guides are very friendly, much recommended

20,000 Ariary for the entrance and a must visit if you come to Antananarivo to understand the History of the Queen and the Colonization of Madagascar by the French, very impressive and must visit
Worth the visit. The building it self tells a story. The exhibits are few and simple. The information in films and digital exhibits tells very simplistic and selective history of Madagascar all the way to its Independence, but is a good introduction for those no familiar with the the last three centuries of Monarchy, Colonial Times, and the struggle for independence of this fascinating Island. The site offers one of the best views of Antananarivo.
Beautiful palace and place to learn about Malagasy history. However it is a pity that they burned it some years ago so most of the place is renovated. Small museum inside about kings, queens, Madagascar and some nice items. Amazing view from top of Antananarivo as it is at the highest point of the city.
Very nice place to visit, certainly to recommend! Everything described in malgasy, french and English. A guide is good to give you some more background to the things, but not really necessary.
Good museum to visit. But it should allow visitors to take photos without flash.
Great place to learn about Madagascar's history. Entrance fee 20000 pp, obligatory guide (I guess you might manage to get in without a guide), who charged us 50000. Fully functional museum with great view.
Quite a nice view. And a 20000 entry fee for a short visit is fair enough. A short visit is plenty of time to walk around the recreation of the historic buildings. There are some interesting historic artifacts inside some but there's not much left of original architecture after the fire in 1995. You may find a tour guide helpful if you want a longer tour. Beware. No photos allowed inside buildings- dunno why they don't want people sharing the interesting stuff but whatever.
It was exceptional. I went in 2019 before the renovations, and it was alright. Now, since the renovations, it is SO much better. It's like a museum inside, and the guide was a huge help. Very knowledgeable, and the history of Madagascar really comes together. I recommend going with the two hour tour, because there's so much to see. It's too bad they don't let you take pictures inside, because there is some really beautiful stuff. Although, if we were allowed to take pictures, it would have taken 4 hours.lol

A must visit if you are near the capital. UNESCO heritage protected. Traditional kings building next to more modern (18c) queens palace. Still favourite with the followers of the old traditional religion where one wants to talk to ancestors and offer a sacrifice! Amazing experience. The entry gate to the sacred hill is worth a visit too
Although very far from Antananarivo city centre if you have to visit one historical site in Antananarivo then make this Rovan' Amohimanga Palace a priority visit.Declared a UNESCO Heritage site this Palace complex has most of its original structure intact. Also the view of Antananarivo from this Palace Watchtower is breathtaking.
It is a UNESCO world heritage. It is the king's palace from 1800s and has queen's summer house from 1900s. The summer house has gifts from different countries such as mirrors from Queen Victoria of England, french cristal ware and wallpaper from Japan. The ticket for foreigners costs 10000 and for local costs 400. I recommend visiting the place with a guide as there are not many written explanation. Has nice panoramik view at the top.
A surprisingly simple Palace, in tact from before the French Colonozation and thankfully kept. UNESCO sites are always great. No pics allowed inside buildings
A UNESCO Heritage Site. Comprises a royal city and burial site, and an ensemble of sacred places. The Royal Hill was the burial ground for its sovereigns; built in the 15th century and was set up as a fortified political capital and royal palace during the reign of King Andriantsimitoviaminandriana in the 18th century.
One of my favorite place in Tana
A major step in Madagascar's History. Nicely preserved. Would deserve a full reconstitution [live performance maybe?] and an historian to develop the landmark history Be prepared to pay restrooms...
Hardly a Palace as most people would think of it. A collection of a few huts with some basic items inside. Lovely views of the surrounding countryside though. 10,000 Ary entrance fee for foreigners plus 600 Ary for taking photos (outside only)

Well worth a visit if you're in Antananarivo
One of the big crocodile farm in Madagascar ivato you can enjoy with crocodile meat and any kind of crocodile dishes. There is some special frogs and lizards you can see those frogs and lizards only in Madagascar. It’s very nice place but foods price little bit expencive and weekends are crowded if you can go with week days it’s calm and silent place for you. Enjoy with crocodile meat with Madagascar croc farm
25.000 Ariary the entrance fees + food (crocodile meal). The park is neatly maintained. You can find crocodiles, of course, and cameleons, snakes, frogs. The shop store is near the reception desk. Very expensive. Free parking lot.
One of the enormous crocodile ranch in Madagascar ivato you can appreciate with crocodile meat and any sort of crocodile dishes. There is a few extraordinary frogs and reptiles you can see those frogs and reptiles just in Madagascar. It's exceptionally pleasant spot yet food varieties cost tad expencive and ends of the week are packed on the off chance that you can go with week days it's quiet and quiet spot for you. Appreciate with crocodile meat with Madagascar croc ranch. 25000Ar per person tickets
Neat little dive into the culture and wildlife of Madagascar: fosa, lemurs, snakes, chameleons, tortoises, crocs and more. The staff are friendly, good price, and the food is decent.
Very decent, a lot of crocs and other animals That’s for sure. Tiny recommendation would be a map of the park/suggested walking route?
Clean and well managed place to see the Nile Crocodiles, Cameleons, Frogs, Snakes and other endemic plants found in madagascar in captivity. Close to Ivato airport.
Just amazing. Real wildlife. So many crocodiles. You can even feed a lemur.

Great place to know Madagascar in Miniature. They have many local Animal. Although unfortunately I wonder why They don't have FUZA. It's so many in Madagascar but they can't capture a couple for Tourists see from close range. The Zoo Keeper can make the Eagle and the Lemur making noise . Even greeting us. Very funny.
This is a combination of a zoo and a botanical garden. I wouldn't say it's the best place I've ever visited, but if you're already in Antananarivo and want to see some interesting animal and plant species, it's worth a visit. The entrance fee is affordable, but it's important to note that the animals are kept in very small and enclosed spaces. However, if you're looking to take a walk and enjoy beautiful plant species and a scenic lake, you might find this place quite enjoyable.
All zoo's are meant to be education centres for wildlife viewers and Tsimbazaza zoo although poorly maintained does give visitors a close up view of Lemurs and a few other birds and reptiles. Before visiting a National park a visit to this zoo is beneficial. The zoo has a excellent " Natural History Museum " next to it that has original fossils and skeletons of extinct Madagascar species.
Very dilapidated place, with some very unhappy animals. The level of care is way too low. Also the rubbish and plastic waste is obscene! It's apparent that the team have no incentive or will to care for the animals or the gardens.
Unfortunately, quite poor garden, suffering animals in unsufficient conditions, mess and rubbish all over the garden, damaged plants and trees (marked and scratched by visitors), many empty spaces, dead animals (I saw 1 bird and 1 chameleon). Well, don't expect standards like in developed countries. Artificially created biotopes have a nice idea, but the reality will bring disappointment..
The best about it the guide, check out Bruno he's fun, informative and passionate. The zoo is small but had over 14 types of lemurs. This is a caged zoo, but a good place to start learning about what to expect.
It's a fun place if you don't want to get out to one of the national parks or reserves and just see some animals and the variety of plants Madagascar has right here in Tana! Locals basically go in for free, we opted not to have a guide and just roamed around on our own. We had a fun time on their manual ferris-wheel... it was a person jumping on it and pulling it down by force, so fun!
animals are kept in bad conditions, especially the lemurs. Donkey had a very ugly wound

Nature & Parks
Tropical zoo with a variety of native animal species, known for chameleons, lemurs & geckos.
Slide 1 of 8
Amazing !! The tour guides are very patient with letting you take all your photos. The lemurs are close walking distance in the woods and they bring them bananas to make them come close to you. There is also a lot of beautiful neon colored frogs, geckos, snakes, and chameleons of all colors and sizes
Mixed feelings about this one. Lovely because you have plenty of chameleons, geckos, snakes, frogs, butterflies… But they are locked in places, some of them are there for release (at least we were told that). So beautiful but sad for that.
They keep and feed lemurs and some reptiles in enclosures here. Which may rub some people the wrong way. I’m generally fine with the concept of zoos especially as a gateway to funnel people to be aware of and to contribute to conservation efforts. Anyway, saw a family of sifakas feeding(and got to feed them myself), and enjoyed a little lecture on the endemic chameleons of Madagascar while getting an up close look. Recommended.
Very interesting reptile "zoo". It is not a reserve where you watch animals in the wild, but you get to see a lot of reptiles you can easily miss.
Ouuuu what a place? One can't miss this place while visiting Madagascar. It is a well maintained place where visitors can get a good glimpse of the exotic and unique chameleon species found only in Madagascar. What's more? Snake, frogs, geco, lemurs, butterflies, moths, unique vegetation. Don't hurry just give ample time to enjoy, gather information of the species as you won't be able to find one else where - it's MADAGASCAR. Just go for it!!!
The highlight here is definitely the lemurs, they are free, interactive, and you can even feed them. This part was truly special and worth experiencing. Unfortunately, everything else was disappointing. The chameleons and other reptiles live most (or all) of their lives in cages, even those born at the reserve. Considering the short lifespan of many chameleons, this means they spend nearly their entire life in captivity. The crocodile is kept alone in an enclosure, and frogs are also permanently caged. In reality this is more of a small private zoo than a conservation reserve, and visitors are not told this clearly before paying, except for the lemurs, which were the one part that truly felt free and joyful.
This place is truly special and not to be missed. The lemur, chameleon and other encounters are spectacular. Having said that, you need to understand that these animals are managed and not wild. The lemurs have been relocated there. The chameleons are in big open cages where they are allowed to roam and breed with the eggs being returned to the wild. It seems a positive trade-off to me.
It is a zoo for reptiles, some frogs, and some habituated lemurs, 1 of which has lost an arm. On arrival I thought the reptiles had free access to a large aviary. This is not the case, they are kept in small cages within the aviary so they can get them out for tourists. It would be far more interesting if you had to find them in the aviary. The chameleons do have a large space, which was much nicer and fun trying to find them. There are also some fruit bats, which I think need releasing, because they don't have enough room to fly Knowledgeable guides Interesting to see and learn about reptiles which may be too hard to see in the wild. They say they release the ones they breed into the wild. However, the guides need to be more assertive to stop tourists handling or scaring the animals. One tourist threw leaves, I think they were trying to attract a lemur, but could see they were scaring it, they were also touching the lemurs for their photos. Another kept picking chameleons off branches to have her photo taken with them. On entry it clearly said tourists should not touch the animals, but the guides said nothing. The guides need to stop this.

The best moment to go their is when the jacaranda trees are blooming. Unfortunately i don’t have great pictures of them.

Amazing, authentic African market. The sights, sounds, and scents are a feast for the senses. I had a local guide with me who helped to engage with the vendors and offer insights and history of the culture. Everything and anything is sold here...fruits, vegetables, meats, grains, clothes, toys, housewares, souvenirs, etc... No trip to Mada is complete without exploring this market. Pickpockets are part of the adventure - keep your head on a swivel, have someone watch your back, don't bring visible valuables. Check out Erik The Adventure Nerd on YouTube.
Fun African and authentic experience. The market stretch for many blocks and in many different directions. Most vendors do not act aggressively or harass passerby but appreciate and warmly welcome you when you shop or view their shop. Keep your hands on your pockets to be careful that nothing gets taken from you. Market gets extremely crowded.
The largest market in Antananarivo and densely populated with locals .Situated in Antananarivo city centre.
Have a good experience..where you can find something which doesn’t exist anymore in your country
Lovable people living in the capital of Madagascar. I find the small shops scattered throughout the city particularly charming
I went for the fresh produce and local artifacts. That part was great. Lots of useless stuff from China etc. Probably best to go with a local guide or at least a driver as public transport not easy
You could go in naked and come out fully clothed, with the clothes adjusted to fit. This place seems to sell everything

Have to pay 5,000 (about $1 or 1€) to enter park but can't go to monument. There's a sign that says 'tsy azo alweha" or "can't walk" and men there guarding it. You can't see it before they charge the entrance though Nothing else to see but there's play and workout equipment if interested.
Sunday, it was closed, but I could see it from outside. It was very beautiful.
From a distance it looks grand. But the nearer you get the greater the smell of human waste. We spent 2 days in the capital, a lively friendly place that potentially has a lot going for it. But judging by the way the lake and Memorial have been neglected things are not going in the right direction.
Good place, but many beggars asking for money

The reviews for this place had us worried, but overall we enjoyed it and think it was well worth the visit. The posters are all in French but a nice lady came around with us and provided verbal interpretation and additional stories and explanation. Small but interesting. Would go again
It was a poster display of the history of pirates generally and in Madagascar. It's all in French but some nice photos. There are some models that were sweet. A very modest 3 rooms in a side street of Tana.
I am not satisfied with the museum. It is a pirates pictures museum. I saw just very few items that can belong to previous eras. Even the other available items are newly made.
I loved my visit to this place. Very educating history about pirates. I liked the effort to translate the documents to English but there is some inconsistency and wrong captioning in the some of the translated texts. I will give 5 stars if the documents are corrected.
An original museum, deserving some praise.
It's a tourist trap. It has some interesting panels on Malagasy pirates, but don't come here expecting to get a very good understanding of piracy in the Indian ocean or to see artifacts. You will find neither. But, for 10,000AR (3USD), I guess I can't complain.
King Julien was not there. Wish i'd seen him. Ive never been here. Was very fun. 10/10

It talks about water purity and transparency, the essential qualities of perfect water, and It is dedicated to preserving Madagascar's photographic heritage and aims to encourage Malagasy people to embrace their history. The museum features exhibitions of vintage photographs as well as themed video screenings The gardens of the Museum of Photography offer spectacular views of the city of Antananarivo. There was a guide, she was very helpful and very explicit. Hats off
Lonely planet defines it as the best Museum in town. Probably exaggerated, but a wonderful spot with great views and old architecture, plus some content to understand the history of this country. But is just a small villa, with two rooms for exhibition and three for projections
Small but interesting museum with many videos explaining both the history of Malagasy photography and the temporary exhibition. On the top floor, the exhibition in well designed. I would have liked to have also a permanent space with old photos of Antananarivo and other main cities. Great view of Antananarivo from the top floor.
Changing photographic exhibitions with permanent documentary films about Madagascar in a two floor very interesting building worth visiting.
They have six short documentaries about Madagascar and its cultural heritage, made up of historic photographs in 3 languages. In addition, there's also a number of photographs on display on the walls with explanations. A small souvenir shop (beautiful postcards!), a temporary photo exposition in the garden (environment conservation) and a lovely garden restaurant. Great views from the hilltop. Overall worth a visit.
My favorite place in the city. Each and every exhibition is a reflection of the creative and talented team who prepared it. The staff is warm and knowledgeable. It is always a delight to visit.

Birds park in the capital of Madagascar. Needs a little cleaning. You can visit in half hour.
A beautiful park with a lot of birds and wold nature, the big issues are that there are no indicators in park for alleys, and in a portion of the park people build up their houses, so while admiring the nature and birds you can end up on someones property
Lots of birds including the rare Meller's Duck. Nice little place
Pleasant walk around this park - visit early in the morning or late afternoon and bring a long lens for the many, many birds that live here. The northwest corner of the park has homes, but the rest is an oasis of nature in the middle of a crowded city. You have to buy your ticket in advance (i.e. the day before) but you can show up as early as 6 am and have the whole park to yourself.
They took 20,000 Ariary to let me enter the park and after 50 minutes they ordered us to leave the park and the payment they charge was not recorded

Giant virgin mary statue amazed me. Entry ticket for foreigner 5k mga, for local 1k mga. Nice view to enjoy also take memorable pic. Must visit.
A church with a beautiful interior, located in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar.
For me is the first cathedral with the arcades in timber. It is on the path of every touristic visit of Tana. There are even some saints relics exposed inside
Was closed, only a lot of begging people around but a nice view from the top.
I believe this is the largest cathedral in the city. It's a very beautiful structure and the interior was nice. I did not manage to inside the cathedral as there was a wedding ceremony ongoing. Looking from outside it did look well maintained. There's a very large statue of Mary but to get a good shot you'll need to get it from the bottom of the stairs leading up to the church. The neighborhood seems safe to walk about. It's on the way to the Rova Palace.
Nice stained glass. Good respite from the tumult of Antsirabe
As a staunch catholic Christian, this was a climax of my trip...visiting the cathedral of Antananarivo. Most especially was the visit to the tomb of an African saint...Blessed Victoire. I was able to pray in the cathedral, though wasnt fortunate to attend Holy Mass.
Nice small Cathedral in Antananarivo, Capital of Madagascar.
