This is the lake to visit if you love watching birds and other wildlife!! Especially quantity of species is incredible. Flamingos, pelicans, stocks… If you stay here, book a cheap lodge or the campground in the park, now you can also do a morning safari. There are quite a few lions around, look after swarms of cars, then there are definitely lions around. Perfectly fine to do a drive here for 5 hours
Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya Nestled in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru is a paradise for nature lovers. Known for its vibrant flocks of Flamingos, diverse Birdlife, and rich Wildlife. Also this Park is a home to two species of Rhinos: the White Rhino and the Black Rhino. It’s truly a jewel of Kenya.... A perfect blend of scenic beauty and wildlife wonders!
Amazing park at 2-3 h ride from Nairobi. Many animals can be seen at a short distance for some of them. About the birds, it will depend upon the season.... The only grey zone is the number of Range Rover you will be crossing on the way...
TLDR: THERE ARE NO MORE FLAMINGOES HERE Usually you go to a place and find out its beauty, splendor, whatever has been greatly exaggerated. You come to expect it even. It's very rare you go to a place and find you've been completely lied to. Sadly Nakuru is one of these places. Google and major tourist websites book this place out as the number 1 place to see flamingoes. What they won't tell you is that this information is about 10 years outdated. Today you would be lucky to see ANY let alone a large number of flamingoes. I went to Lake Nakuru in 27 June 2025, keep in mind June is start of dry season in Kenya. I was told I would be able to see flamingoes all year round in Lake Nakuru, the peak being in dry season which is June - February, where I would be able to see huge flocks. I. Did. Not. See. A. Single. Flamingo. Not. A. Single. One. Guide told me this year they're late, it's been too rainy this season etc etc. A quick Google search reveals I'm not the only one who's encountered flamingo non existante in Lake Nakuru and that the numbers here have been steadily dwindling over the years due to bad governance and destruction of habitat. Most of the reviews I've seen mentioning flamingo sightings either have no pics or very polished stock photos that are likely not theirs. Fake reviews. Maybe if you go late July/ August you would see some, but prepare to be disappointed. People have mentioned Lake Bogoria and Lake Elementaita as alternative options to view flamingoes but from reviews and Google searches they also seem inconsistent. Photo I took of Lake Nakuru, the white birds are all pelicans

Great not huge park to watch wild animals in shorter time. Specially Rhinos that you don’t see in masai mara.
Great park, lots of wildlife - saw rhino, zebra and just missed a leopard! Shame water level is currently high so many roads inaccessible and very few flamingo
Park is flooded, less chances of seeing anything or driving around the area. We saw few baboons, few far rhinos and hornbills. I won’t recommend this till the flood water is settled or the roads have been made to connect to the wild life.
