Temple which has a history of over 1000 years. Excellent maintenance . Located at the foothills of the western ghats with lush and green surroundings. Serene and right place to offer prayers to the deity . Hall mark- pin drop silence maintained by the devotees. One can have uninhibited Dharshan of Lord Vishnu. Patronized by the erstwhile rulers of Kolkengode state. Must visit temple.
Had another chance to visit this holy Temple located in the peaceful, green village of Payyalur in the Kollengode area of Palakkad district. It's one of the oldest and largest Vishnu temples in the region, situated at the foot of the Nelliyampathi Hills. According to legend, the temple was consecrated by Sage Kashyapa after Lord Vishnu appeared to him following his penance on the hillock of Govinda Hill. The faint imprint of two footprints, marked with a Sanku (Holy Conch), is thought to be the spot where the sage had his vision of the Lord. It is said that, a mountain spring bursts forth with energy when devotees shout "Govinda!" during their pilgrimage in January to this place. The temple’s main deity is called ‘Perumal’—Chaturbahu Mahavishnu—depicted holding a conch, discus, mace, and lotus, and seated on the coils of Ananta, similar to the Thripunithura Poornathrayeesha Temple. The pedestal of the main idol features images of Bhoomidevi and Sridevi. There are also smaller shrines for Ganapathy, Sastha, and Siva within the temple grounds, as well as a sacred grove for snakes (Sarpa Kavu). The walls of the main sanctuary (sreekovil) are beautifully painted with scenes from the Ramayana. Before entering the temple, it is customary to bow at the ‘Elanji Thara’ to honor Sage Kashyapa. I visited the temple with my family on a weekday and had a peaceful darshan. Om Namo Narayana. The nearest railway station is Kollengode, which has limited train services. Palakkad station, about 30 kilometers away, offers more train options. The closest airports are in Coimbatore and Cochin, both around 100 kilometers away, with taxi, bus, and train connections available. The nearest towns are Kollengode and Nemmara. If you're traveling by bus, you can get off at Payyalur Corner and take an auto-rickshaw to the temple.
I have been hearing about this temple mainly because of kachamkurissi keshavan, a famous Elephant of this temple. This temple is known as Lord Vishnu Temple. Here Bhagavan is with Bhoodevi and Sreedevi sametan. Vighraha or diety is made of daru wood. So no Abhishekam can be performed. You can see bhoo Devi and sree Devi in the images of mirror inside the sanctum. Ulsava moorthy diety is adjacent to main diety. Here Sree Rama swamy sankalpam is also there as the poojari conveyed. Ulsavam is in vaishakha month ( May). A very nice pond can be seen in front of the temple. This temple is less than 3 kms from kollengode ( Pollachi -Thrissur road). I am fortunate to be there. Easwaro rakshathu
Great temple of Lord Vishnu.. Beautiful mural paintings on the walls of internal sanctum.. photography is not allowed inside. Story of Ramayana described through the murals from left to right. However the series started with Sage Kashyapa (if Iam recollecting it right) which I couldn’t connect.
This place is magical...the peace and the happiness we get visiting the temple is something which cannot be expressed..
We visited this temple on 30th May. Inside the temple, it was very clean and good. We had good darshan. Outside the temple, a lot of garbage was thrown everywhere. Why it's like this? Normally, the temples' surrounding areas are maintained well in Kerala. It will be good if the authorities take action and clear the garbage ASAP.
