Built 1487–1492, Aragonese Castle offers guided tours by the Italian Navy, 2 cafes & a bookshop.

The entrance is free, it is at fixed times, it is a navy museum and the tour is guided by a navy guide. I recommend that you make a reservation so that you don't have emotions, we didn't know and we didn't, but we were still allowed access, I think it's related to the number of visitors at that time. The guide's explanations are interesting and complete, in Italian anyway, but you can still take pictures of the castle, the interior models, the surroundings and enjoy the sunset if you are at the right time.
The castle are still a functional and working marine barracs, so you have to take the free tour. Otherwise no entry. It didn't work with our schedule
Astonishing scenes of old and new. The Ponte Girevole (swing bridge ) opens for ships and connects too seas. Castello has free tours but in Italian only
Entry is only by the free guided tour at set times during the day and evening. It is still an Italian Navy facility therefore the restrictions. It is still is worth viewing from the outside. We couldn’t wait 2 hours for the next tour so we had to skip it. Definitely would do it next time.
Open every day and the scheduled tours are free. You cannot tour the castle without the tour guide (Navy personnel) and the tour is only in Italian. Too bad they don’t have written translation in multiple languages so tourists can read the descriptions. At the side entrance, a guard will allow you in and direct you to the guide. There are about 10 tour times posted at the guard area. What appears to be the front near the bridge to the new town is an information center, not the castle entrance. We went in late November and only one other couple was there. During busier times of the year, you may need a reservation.
A very nice visit at the castle. A navy official provides a guided tour for free (in Italian) every hour. The tour gives information over the history of Taranto and the castle. I found it very informative and entertaining. I would recommend doing it if you are visiting Taranto. Also I was amazed that by the sunset, they displayed the Italian flag with lights on one of the sides of the Costello while playing some anthem (I wish I knew what was it), I loved that moment.
A beautiful castle belongs to the Italian navy, but an unpleasant surprise awaited us, you must have booked a tour guide, that's the only way you can enter...!!! It doesn't even matter so it's worth a visit. Highly recommended.
Very interesting history and friendly staff! Visit with the group is free and scheduled.

Magnificent museum with a wealth of findings from local excavations (particularly from the Greek necropolis of Taras) as well as a very informative exposition about the early mycenian and greek settlements in the area, the Roman annexation of Taras, reaching up to the medieval era. The findings are presented in two floors. One should follow the map provided by the friendly employees at the entrance to see the exposition in chronological order. The absolute highlights here are the extensive and very well-preserved pottery collection, the tomb of the pentathlon athlete, as well as the intricate handcrafted jewelry that has been unearthed. Other interesting findings include some Roman era mosaics and written laws, as well as large coin hoards from various eras. Additionally, the museum currently holds a temporary exhibition about Penelope and the Odyssey in a broader historical and art context. About the museum itself, it is wheelchair accessible and the ticket for one adult costs 10 Euros (in my opinion, well worth the price). Descriptions are available in Italian and English, and there is the option of an audio tour. There are clean bathrooms on every floor. For a complete visit of all exhibits, estimate 2-3 hours in total. All in all, a must-see in Taranto for history and archeology enthusiasts as well as for anyone seeking to understand the many-layered history of this ancient city! Grazie mille!
This museum and Museo Sigismondo Castromediano in Lecce will give you excellent overview of the history of this region. It is impressive what artefacts they have from Ancient Greek and Roman times. The collection comes mostly from necropolis. Definitively worth a visit, we were in November and we were the only people here while visiting the museum … If you buy ticket for MUDI you will get discount for this museum and vice versa. Kudos to friendly stuff.
World class antiquities museum. Lovely female guide on one of the floors gave us a tour of the highlights in English. Advice: taking your time in the pre Greek and Greek colony period of Taranto might push you into three hour plus visit. We had to leave for our bus and missed lots of other exhibits which was sad but an opportunity to return. Wish they had a snack bar and a proper gift shop. This place has so much potential.
What a gem! Such a beautiful collection. The highlights for us included the collection of Medusa faces and the incredible array of jewelry. A couple of lovely temporary exhibitions rounded it out. Worth the visit and a good audio guide as well.
This is one of the most surprising and jaw dropping museums I have ever visited. I would very rarely suggest driving hours out of your way for a museum but if you are a fan of Greco-Romano culture this gas artefacts that are just outstanding. The audio guide gives you a pretty good background but I could have spent hours and hours here - instead we only spent 2.5 hours in this museum as it was just so overwhelming. The athletes section is amazing, especially if you have an interest in pan-Atheneum games.
Pretty good for the history before BC, but minimal history after that! I really enjoyed the videos and want more of them to give 5 stars. I went on a Sunday and it wasn’t crowded. But don’t use the elevator/lifts is you have a fear of small, packed , and hot stuffy spaces.
We spent a couple of hours here and it was worth every penny - a really epic display of history with so many items and so much detail! The huge mosaics were a highlight. Even though it wasn't applicable to us we also appreciated the accessibility with several sensory exhibits for people without vision, and ramps and lifts.
Really interesting ancient Greek and Roman collections. Including subtle jewelry, mosaics, vases. Unique and very well presented. Must visit!

My sister who works as a marine biologist has been recommending me to take part in this small journey for the past two years. It was incredible to discover how many beautiful creatures we can find in their amazing habitat, and the work that the guys are doing is essential in order to study the dolphins, to preserve their territory and to guarantee them a safe future. I was born in Taranto and I rarely come back to visit, but after this experience I understood that my land has a lot more to offer than I could imagine. I hope to come back to visit soon. A massive thanks to Monica and Alessandro, I really appreciated the way you treated all guests, and I'm also thankful for having seen you keeping the sea clean from potential dangers like plastic and fishing nets.
This was an absolutely fantastic experience. Initially I was worried about spending 5 hours on a boat but the time flew so quickly that we didn't even realize it. We were lucky to see dolphins, turtles, and many other species on the surface, this is not always possible though and does not depend on the crew... The members of the association were so helpful and polite, they revealed so many details of their work and were careful to answer each of our questions. I was amazed at how respectful they are in regards to the sea life. Make sure to book your trip in advance and get ready to see unforgettable sequences of marine life!
Wonderful experience in a special ecosystem. The team are very professional and knowledgeable, the approach is scientific and the atmosphere inclusive. It is definitely great value for money too.
What an excellent day on board. Really informative and we spent time viewing striped Dolphins in a natural habitat. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended
An amazing experience. It is magnificent to see the beauty, power and elegance of those wonderful creatures. It is unbelievable how close they came to our observation deck and seeing them in their natural environment and behaviour made us simply speechless. The local guides on board are very skilled biologists and they really know what they are talking about. An appropriate English translation was offered, which makes it a wonderful half-day trip also for non-italian speakers like us. We would join this trip for sure the next time we visit Puglia. A big thanks to the entire staff.
This excursion was definitely a highlight of our trip to Italy. It was well organized and highly informative. Being able to observe these dolfins in their natural habitat was like nothing I had ever experienced. The well being of these animals is of paramount importance to the staff and crew. When we would come upon a family of dolfins they would shut off the catamaran's engine and ask us to speak quietly so as to not agitate the animals. It was an amazing opportunity and one that I would highly recommend.
A day that we will always remember and changed our perspective forever. We spent the day with the association on their boat with our 3 daughters (the youngest is 4), and it was amazing. We could see more dolphins that we could dream of (stripped and buttlenose dolphins), playing and jumping in front of our boat. The association members are passionate and do everything to transmit their love for cetaces' and explain how to protect them. The dolphins were never attracted by food or tracked down. If they seem shy, we just stopped following them but the stripped ones were amazingly curious. Even though everyone else spoke English, Juli was kind enough to translate everything for us, which made the tour as educational as it was impressive. Just remember that you need to bring your lunch (drinks are provided for) and sunscreen. No need for swimming equipment since it is no allowed to swim with the dolphins.
We went on the 20/7 and saw 2 large groups of dolphins (more than 50 in total). It was an amazing and beautiful experience to see them in their natural habitat. The crew is passionate and dedicated to nature preservation and they share their passion with all passengers. A wonderful way to increase awareness on how to help dolphins at individual level. Thank you for you work!

Looking nice just windy now .
Nice beach but crowded during summer.
Beautiful beaches but too crowded for my liking towards San Pietro. Heading south was better, Monaci and further south. Avoid the obvious tourist spots and you could find a little cive to yourselves. Great for cycling as flat but once again the roads are busy in the high season so take good care!
A beautiful public beach with clear water and fine sand.
Water looks good but it's time the community deals with all the plastic, fish nets and rubbish on the beaches.
Top top top..😉👌
Beach like everywhere at this side of the bay but very quite and not overcrowded. Place for book, sleep, relax and enjoy
Beautiful. Paradise. Relax.

I travelled from England to visit this museum. Sadly, my flight got delayed, and my train was also delayed. It meant I got there 2 hours late and missed the entry time. It's only open for a short time once a week. I understand why, but it was very frustrating. One day, one day.
Very interesting and surprisingly large inside! We spent a good hour inside. There was quite a lot of good information on the Spartans that I never knew 🙂
Interesting to look around. The tour was in Italian and there wasn’t an opportunity to do an English tour. Cost 5€. There was a film at the beginning with had some English subtitles and provided a good overview. The Archeological Museum is a better spend of time and dollars.
Only opens on a Sunday, not very good when your cruise ship docks on a Wednesday.
Very small museum, expensive for the price. Save your €10 for a pizza instead
Am not sure if it was because it was out of season. But it was closed and when I called the number to check opening times, the person didn't speak English and I also looked at the site. Which didn't give out much information.
Very interesting.
Highly recommended!!!

Greatly detailed inside and outside there are great restaurants outside where you can sit outside and look at the grand buildings
Always a pleasure eating here We had Sunday lunch here on a busy day, yet food and service were both very good and atmosphere is great wether dining indoors or outdoors
A very nice surprise! Beautiful interior and and apart experience 🙂
Big church right in front of Piazza Immacolota. Path from Piazza roma to this church, stone flooring is really good, flashy and unique. It's quite big, you can see its structure (from different angles) almost from any streets in that area.
Such an amazing Basilica in the centre of Martina Franca. Blown away for the architecture, and the art work. If you’re ever in Martina Franca visiting this basilica is a must!
A most impressive church. This huge building with impressive steps is neatly hidden along the thin streets and winding alleyways. We were lucky enough to witness a christening with all attending dressed perfectly on a very hot day. The front of this building is incredibly tall and sits imposingly over the small square in front. Did not get to see inside but visiting other local churches shows the extent of the impressive art and architecture in Martina Franca.
Nice basilica with a good fire baroque and rococo details
Just goes to show, you can even have a lovely time exploring Martina Franca in the rain.

Very reverent to the faith & a wonderful hisory of the grest Saint😇😇🙏🙏🙏
Beautiful cathedral but some parts require renovation and it’s sad to see how rest of the historic centre looks today.
One of the most historically important cathedrals in Puglia, dating back to the 11th century. Rich in Baroque architecture, sacred art, and symbols of papal visits. Una cattedrale viva, ricca di fede e storia. Imperdibile a Taranto.
Don’t be fooled by first impressions. The outside looks like just another small cathedral. Walking in it all seems rather plain. You must go further, the ceiling and stone floor near the altar are interesting. You must go to the right side and to the big chapel. That is where the amazement is. A stunning ceiling painting, statues and wall decorations. Don’t miss the crypt either. It is only open to 12:45 in the morning and then in the evening. It is closed in the afternoon, so you need to plan your visit there. It is free to enter.
What would a unification of both the Catholic and the Orthodox world look like. A must see Attraction.
Look to the right side of the main alter and visit the chapel, it's amazing. Also visit the script
Open in the morning and in the evening. Impressive marble mosaic. Definitely worth it.
A real surprise, stunning inside and a must see in Taranto.

Gorgeous area with a lot of history. The ceramics are authentic and hand-made. A nice evening.
Amazing ! Adorable people all around ! Beautiful places in Grottaglie ! Would love to come back !
So lovely. We met a 93 year old artist and a studio that makes huge jars bigger than my husband. Very pleasant stop at the purgatory bar after.
If you go to Grottaglie this is the place you MUST visit. A street of artisan botteghe producing handmade ceramic masterpieces. You can find beautiful pieces for everyone taste. From classic ceramic to astonishing modern pieces. A couple of bar can offer you a drink and a snack in the hottest hour of the day or just to sit and admire the beauty of what you have around.
Incredible town for all pottery lovers
Tourist trap with multiple shops. Did purchase two small ornamennts. A couple places had staff painting the partially dry base prior to kilning. Most shops asked that no pictures or videos be taken. Not sure why??? Some pieces looked very interesting but too big to transport back home. Definitely a quality difference between shops. Be careful, shop several stores first then go back after you have noticed the variances.
Lovely experience - some fantastic artistry. Many shops sell the same but there are some that are clearly artisansz
Wonderful place for wonderful ceramics art!

Wevordered this tour before coming to Manduria, confirmation for museum tour and vine tasting came by email really fast. The museum is very interesting and our guide Katja was a superb conosseur of Primitivo and excellent story teller! The vine tasting included 4 different vines and yummy snacks! We were offered a 10% discount for the vine. Both the tour and the tasting are great and for the small fee of 16 eur per person - it is great value for money! Absolutely recommend!
Katia was very friendly and informative. We enjoyed the tour. The wine is divine. Highly recommended
It was amazing! Learn about the story (since 1932) and how they used to make wine and see everything with the unique guidance of Catia was awesome.
More a shop than a museum. Quite nice if you like Primitivo di Manduria though.
Must book a day in advance for tour and tasting- we didnt see anything like that listed on the website. Its okay, our mistake. Cool looking museum ! You can just look around for free. Some English is spoken by staff
Great wines and a great winery mentality. We had a nice guided visit today by the museum where we learned a bit about the Primitivo history and also how the Produtori di Manduria was able to bring together several vineyard’s to create great labels. A big shout and thank you to Roberta, which was amazing guiding us today and is very knowledgeable about the wines and the region.
It is underground where the old vats for making wine were located, made from stone. Old wine equipment and farm tools. Gives you a view of what rural life was in Puglia many years ago.
As a visiting American it was the highlight of our Italian trip. The wine, the tour and the staff were all exceptional. This is a must see on any visit to Puglia And special thanks to Santa Valentina who was charming, gracious and simply beautiful.
