The food arrived quickly and overall score for food around the table was 4 our of 7. We had a Sunday Roast and everyone knows that roast potatoes are one of the most important things in in the roast. Unfortunately those were not the best, they were not crispy and they tasted like they were cooked the day before or at least couple of hours earlier and left in the water. I will give kudos for being given cheese when I asked it for it at no extra cost though. There are independent venues in Bristol with better kids meals for sure. Always get the dirty fries, absolute beast of a portion, definitely a 2 person job and SO filling and so tasty. The atmosphere is always good but it has to be said last time I was there the music was just too loud, not normally a huge deal but when you're with friends trying to have a chat it can be tricky! It just seemed to take so long for food to come out even though it wasn't busy, when it did we then had to wait for cutlery to come out, also my friends order was wrong so they had to wait even longer for their food! The 'meal' came as a small plate. After about four mouthfuls the 'meal' had all gone and still hungry. Would be small even as a starter. On the plus side food was delicious - the bit we had. So hence two stars rather then one. And the place - hardly a free seat in the restaurant and peaceful atmosphere. But the atmosphere doesn't satisfy hunger. Bill for two people for two small plates (as opposed to actual meals) plus soft drinks (£4.50 each) plus Focaccia bread came to £48. Then add on the table charge (12.5%) and the £1 charity donation (don't mind giving to charity but this was taken from our bank ac without any mention!) = £55. Had we had the recommended two plates - easily £80+. When we got home later that evening made myself a cheese and pickle sandwich as still hungry. Just as well we didn't have the wine - £34 for the cheapest bottle! In summary nice restaurant but frankly outrageous prices! Will not be returning,

The main appeal for this pub came from seeing it at night, tucked away in a lane which looked like such a quaint experience! It definitely still has this vibe when visiting, albeit a bit smaller on the inside. The main room is fantastic, with a wonderful bar and a fireplace. The upstairs dining area is also good, but doesn’t carry the same atmosphere as downstairs. As for the food, it was a good meal, although a bit lacklustre in terms of quantity of food with the vegetables on the plate not being a significant portion. This was mildly disappointing as the Sunday Roast is at least £22 depending on the meat that is chosen. The vegetarian/vegan option (Mushroom & Squash) was absolutely fantastic and I’d recommend this even for meat eaters. It tasted a lot like stuffing and had a great texture and taste! The staff were are very friendly, except that we were informed to wait for our table to be ready but had to go and ask if it was ready later and weren’t informed by them ourselves. It would also have been courteous to tell us that the Chicken and Lamb meats weren’t available before we had sat down and decided what we wanted to have. Other than this, the staff were great.
