Good little museum, covering the history of the town and the people that made their lives here.
It's free to visit, with optional donations. We found quite a lot that interested us and kept us interested for half an hour, so it was well worth a little donation for help with the running costs.

Tiny but lovely.
You could walk round this one room museum and be out in thirty seconds though to do it justice would take much longer. The usual collection of local finds of fossils and artefacts one might expect from a town museum. The finds were generally well interpreted, I only spotted one error and that was for something I believe to be more interesting than they think it is.
The local industry section explaining the horse drawn iron ore railway to the docks was interesting.

This is a wonderful little museum, not big but full of interesting exhibits and well worth a visit. The lovely museum staff clearly have a love for their little town and seem to genuinely enjoy telling you all about it. Visited this place this week , with a big group of 12!!. There was enough room for all of us to explore and the kids loved making ropes, they all got to take home their own souvenir rope. For a free museum I would highly recommend this place!

Went yesterday to see an exhibition in rooms 1 and 2. Just three words: pretentious//joyless//boring. Room 10 was a little better but the artworks were so poorly displayed. Maybe we just picked a bad season.

Loved the working paper making hall with beautiful paper to purchase.
Also a number of small local artists studios to browse and buy from. Very interesting.

Lovely place to stay, and a great location. Staff and food were all really top-notch and it was really nice to stay in the pods. The surrounding area is also really beautiful and this "modern" building is tucked away so as to not affect the more traditional coastal scenery. Great walks to local food and beaches as well. The papermakers are also a must-see!
As a non-British tourist I really loved it!
Just wanted to add that the EV charging spot nearby doesn't work, which was a hassle.

We went on a Wednesday, pretty quiet, we didn’t wait long to get in, 5 minutes or so, and didn’t buy tickets in advanced. You can do that if you wish but it doesn’t make much difference. £16.50 (Adult ticket)
Really enjoyed the talks, they were very informative and the staff were lovely, it was nice being able to ask questions and become more educated on some of the animals there.
We ended up staying from opening to closing, attending every talk. I definitely recommend this zoo as it educates us on the conservation of wildlife.

Ask about the experiences! We've been visiting for a few years, and we decided to book the experience for our Daughter's birthday, and it was phenomenal value. From start to finish, she felt so special. We got up close feeding many of the animals, and got very personal talks about the animals. Jess was amazing, and the passion shines through from all the staff. They do so much work for conservation, and rescue. If you can't do the experience, make sure you join the talks as you will see a lot of feeding and also hear some very interesting information and the stories behind the animals. They do need the visitors to help them fund the work they do, and you will not regret visiting. You also get to see how the local community and businesses help them. Also great parks for the kids to play on.

Brilliant little zoo!
Highly recommend going to all the talks about the animals, highly knowledgeable keepers and entertaining talks too. The talks allowed us to get a good view of the animals that were otherwise snoozing out of sight as the keepers feed them as they do the talk encouraging the animals to come out. It was such a hot day when we went we probably wouldn't of had much of a chance to see the serval and bobcat if we didn't attend the talks/feeds for them.
Amazing play areas for children! There's a large indoor one in the cafe and a couple of outdoor ones too.
Café food was good and staff were lovely.
We had so much fun there, highly recommend going if you're in the area!

We arranged for our son to have the 1 hour zoo keeper experience as a 6th birthday treat and what a treat it was… he had the most amazing time.
Sam really ensured our son was enthralled and got the most of our time with the selection of animals. He was super knowledgeable and explained everything so that the children understood.

The kind and knowledgeable keepers and volunteer team were a stand-out feature of our afternoon at the park. There was an impressive array of animals, some of which you can see up close far more than other zoos. I strongly recommend attending the keeper sessions throughout the day, as you learn more about the animals and get to see them in action whilst they enjoy their food. The choir of adorable shrieking otters and the famous bobcat Bode were two favourites.

A nice collection of animals, both outdoors and indoors, great play areas for children and not hugely expensive.
We went recently, haven't been since a child, and it was a pleasant time. We spent around 3 to 4 hours walking round and I'm sure we would have been longer in the summer time.
Lots to see inside the buildings with fish, snakes, spiders, crocodiles and more. A good mix of indoor animals.
We went to the 2pm show to touch and hold different animals which included a snake, ferret and a bearded dragon. The daughter (1Y 8M) loved it and the handlers were great.
They took care of the animals as the ferret got agitated, so they took it away to ensure the animal was happy. Much better than forcing the animal to be seen. Hats off to the handlers.
It was quite fun walking around with the peacocks walking around, made the place feel closer to the animals.
The play areas were great, but felt it was geared more towards older children as the inside play area didn't offer much for young children.
I would definitely come again in the warmer months of the year but felt like we got our moneys worth going even when cold.
The staff were nice and greeting and couldn't fault the experience at all.
We will be going again!

We came across this place by accident, simply looking for somewhere to eat that also accepted dogs. The meals were stunning, I haven't enjoyed a meal so much for years. We were served by a lovely young lady called Courtney, who was charming and super helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Stuck for somewhere to eat 2 nights later, having already booked for the night after, we decided to eat there again. Same delicious choice of food, we had different meals, again absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend this place to eat or simply for a few drinks. We'll be back! 😋

A great pub for food & or beer.
We booked our table by phone, & received great service on arrival. The menu was perfect for the three of us. Food size being generous and really tasty. Pie was spot on with plenty of lean steak topped with big layers of flakey pastry. Finished this off with a superb pint of Exmoor Beast. Staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble at all.
Would highly recommend.

Awesome little place, some interesting local beer that’s been brew specially for the the bar with an interesting Somerset twist.
Clean ale with bitter finishing (kiwi) was the drink and to be honest price was 4.30 for a pint which are pretty awesome . I wouldn’t recommend started this with but mid session or session ale would have be ok.
Some special manu of the day but being small town next to a harbour you expect to more local
Seafood but nevertheless there is some in there.
Over all ever was great but inside where alittle dark and gloomy that may need updating alittle bit but…..said that it is worth a visit for those special refreshing pint or two. Oh also dog friendly/pub restaurant.

We visited the beach, and afterwards we found this restaurant. Initially, we came just for some snacks, but after seeing the menu we decided to have a full dinner. The food was truly authentic, with perfect spice levels — pure Indian taste! Every curry, roti, and main course was delicious. Very pleasantly surprised by this unassuming little Indian in Watchet. It was blowing a gale when we went, and we waited for our take-out food in the Pebbles Tavern, a few paces away (see review for that separately - great little place). We had takeout, so didn't get the full 'eat-in atmosphere' but it was seemingly buzzing with happy punters, and plenty of take-outers drifting in as well.
We ordered a decent range of food, a selection of curries, biryanis and side dishes (I've provided the entire menu in the pics) and can honestly say they were all very well-spiced and very tasty.
Bonus point for the staff member who identified as we were about to leave with our food that the vegetable curry for one of the biryanis was not vindaloo-strength (as I always order) and had us wait for a couple of minutes to bring a second batch with a healthy topping of green chillies.....perfect - well, for me anyway.
I don't go to Watchet often, but I know now that there is a good Indian to be had - and its close to a fantastic little real ale / real cider bar. Prices not so bad either on the face of it.

As a single man I eat out on my own a lot. I have ate here before and everything was fantastic. But on this occasion, when I asked for a table I was told it was fully booked with an empty restaurant.
I left and thought this to be strange so I rang the restaurant. Told them I would like to book a table for two in 15 minutes and they booked the table instantly.
I went in to comfort the restaurant about this and the continued to lie, saying they are fully booked and they haven’t taken a call recently.
This is complete discrimination against a single person. There was no apology or explanation.
The restaurant is stunning it’s a shame the staff are so arrogant.

We were so pleased to find great Indian food in Watchet. The service and meals were excellent. The portions were generous and the prices were very fair. The papadums, along with all the sides, were very creative and flavorful. The mixed tandoori grill was excellent. It's great to return to my original home town (and country) to enjoy wonderful food.

The only thing good was the food if a little on the cool side. Service was disappointing considering we had booked a table they didn't know where to sit use so put us on a small table by the toilet door considering other big tables were available as it was busy and remained so throughout our visit. The waiter who served us was as about as welcoming as Covid. The food was very nice but only warm to eat it could and should be hotter? However serving food in a cracked bowl with part of the edge missing was very poor. Unfortunately we won't be going back any time soon.

This turned out to be a real find ! We went in while waiting for our takeaway (from the nearby Spice Merchant Indian Restaurant - and well worth a visit if you are hungry - see separate review).
Three solid real ales served from barrels behind the bar and lots of different ciders too. Proper quirky vibe about the place and everyone was friendly and you could get a good taste before you bought....I like that in a pub. I had a pint of the Porter, then a pint of the Wicked Wolf, and I'd have downed the Bearserker given the chance....but the food was ready for pick up.
Great little place, well worth going if quirky real ale bars are your thing.....and they are mine....

We was staying up the road and came in to Watchet town centre / harbour, popped into this little gem on a pub. Its only small bit has heaps of character and all sorts of historic things dotted about. I had a Guinness and it was beautiful they found a seat for me and the family when we entered. Lovely little place really enjoy the deco almost feel like your thrown back in time to the 60s.
Shame that they don’t do food but they have made a deal with the chippy next door so you can eat your chippy in the pub and have you pint!
Highly recommended this place to stop by a drink or two but be warned..the cider is like rocket fuel there!!!

Normally I am a real ale guy, but I decided to dive into the cider world while in Somerset. It's a proper local pub with an amazing selection of cider with the best I have seen so far in Somerset. Staff are super helpful for those who aren't cider drinkers like me. Would recommend. Bring cash though cause their card machine is iffy due to poor service, but that's not an issue for myself.

THE ANCIENT MARINER
This statue was commissioned in 2002 by the Watchet Market House Museum Society.
It was sculpted by Alan B Herriot of Penicuik, Scotland and erected in 2003 as a tribute to Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
This renowned poet resided for some years at the nearby village of Nether Stowey. In 1797, whilst on a walking tour, Coleridge visited Watchet. On seeing the harbour he was inspired to compose one of the best known poems in English literature,

This place is a hidden gem in Somerset! Being from Australia I’d given up all hope of a decent coffee anywhere on my travels, but I’ve just had an amazing Flat White worthy of any of any Coffee Shop in Melbourne. The two ladies that work here are so friendly, it was a pleasure to visit. The food looks amazing and is clearly popular with the locals so I’ll be taking some away with me!

The Esplanade Club is a great pub to visit if you are in the Watchet area. I used to frequent this pub many years ago when I lived locally, however dropped in a couple of times last week when I was visiting family in the area. The outside seating area is situated just on the harbour, perfect for a relaxing drink on the evening. The pricing was great and the beer was great. Lovely touch with the branded plastic cups for outside drinking, I took mine home as a souvenir. The staff and locals were very friendly. Will definitely be dropping in for a pint or two next year when we are back in Watchet.

However when we asked to use the toilet we were told that was for members only and we were flatly refused entry. I get that it was a busy event but surely advance warning i.e. a sign on the outside bar saying drink beer here but are toilet facilities are unavailable would be the right thing to do!

Back in the day iron ore mined in the Brendon hills arrived here on the West pier, via the West Somerset Mineral Railway, for onward shipping to Newport in Wales. Lovely Railway. We went from Watchet station to Blue Anchor on the steam train, which was a great experience.
The stations are like something out of a movie and the even have old trunks, etc, at the platform, so give it an old world feel.

Lovely station with period buildings and associated railway artefacts. Staff were friendly and kept everyone informed of the next trains and in what direction. Small model railway and on the day a model railway sales stand was present. The town and harbour are only a small walk down the hill, and they are also well worth a visit.

A wonderful collection of carefully-curated memorabilia. I visited this museum with my dad (who was born in 1937), which made it all the more interesting, as he was able to describe and reminisce about the things that he'd grown up with and used, throughout his life - including during his time served in the RAF. So, a great walk down memory lane for him, and an education for my sister and I, who accompanied him. Everything is beautifully laid out, with lots of posters, pics and general nostalgia. Great job! Well worth the visit.

Great beach close to Watchet end that connects with Donniford Beach. Access from the Watchet Marina near the lookout at low tide or from the rear of the football club. There's a big car park at Watchet or you can access a small car park that's free at the rear of the football club and over the railway bridge. A short walk brings you to a set of fairly steep concrete steps with a handrail that take you straight to the beach.The beach is a mix of stone that as the tide goes out there is red sand and mud so pick you route carefully. You can choose to walk towards Doniford along the beach with great fossil hunting available. If you wait until the tide goes out and go left at the bottom of the stairs there's a great beach. The beach to the left has a great cave and plenty of large rock pools.
Top Tip 1. Keep an eye on the tide it comes in quick and can catch you out so check times before you wander to far from the exits from the beach.
Top Tip 2. Right at the bottom of the steps gets you the fossils at the base of the cliff
Top Tip 3. Left at bottom of the steps gets you large rock pools and a cave.
Top Tip 4. Keep an eye on the trains and you can wave from the bridge at the rear of the football club and get a toot from the steam train.

Nice little Cider barn hidden in an orchard. Some really nice ciders to either drink on site or take away (and they do tasters!!). Small play area for the kids and a few pens with Pigs, chickens and ducks.

It's one of the most beautiful places I've been lucky enough to visit! Super friendly staff, Freddie, the one-eyed goat 🐐 is just brilliant. The scenery is breathtaking. I'm so glad we went! The apple juice is lovely, and so we breakfast! Highly recommend a visit!

Excellent little working cider farm. You can walk among the various different breeds of apple in the orchard and there's a small restaurant which serves very nice food.
They make a few different cider flavours which are all very nice, as well as gins and such. I recommend the honey cider 👌

Been again this year (2024). Still a great place to visit. The only thing I'm a bit gutted about is that the cider is no longer sold in the glass jars as it used to be. We all still enjoyed walking through the orchard and the kids loved seeing the animals and playing in the play area. Food was lovely and the staff were very friendly.

Happened upon this Cider Farm almost by accident as we were on route to camp close by and saw the road sign for it!…wonderful place…lots of play equipment for the younger ones - orchard walks - animals to feed - coffee shop (highly recommend the cider cake!!) - small gift shop with local products to sell which we really appreciated …friendly staff and helpful service - cider tasting available..plenty of parking spaces and disabled parking spaces available too. Toilets available however I was unable to see if disability access was possible to these but given how lovely this place was I fully expect it was!…you can also view the cider pressing room and there are plenty of information boards to read. We both noted that this cider farm had fully retained it small traditional feel whilst offering much to see and do..

Came here on a glorious summers day having just joined the English heritage. Took the West Somerset steam train which was a short walk away. Expected this to be ruins but was pleasantly surprised at how well retained this building was. Steeped in history. And great to explore. Plenty of rooms to visit including a big open room with loads of atmosphere. And with lovely grounds outside to sit and enjoy. A well stocked shop where both my sister and myself returned with souvenirs and yummy jams and relishes. And a very helpful assistant who gave us loads of information about the Abbey.

This was a far more interesting attraction than I was expecting and easily worth the £7.20 entry fee. I was expecting something akin to piles of fallen down masonry everywhere but in fact, other than the Abbey Church which is gone and only visible through the positions of its original foundation stones, many of the other buildings attached to it as part of the monastery are surprisingly intact. Spent a number of hours looking around and it wasn't busy at all on an early October Saturday.

Small shop, toilets are clean and easy free parking in the English Heritage car park across the road. Free disabled parking on site. Please be careful as you can see I parked my car by where the road is closed on the blue anchor bay side we were not got long and it got vandalised all panels were damaged, my wife is disabled both mentally and physically, I believe someone must have taken offence to my car parked were it was,I did display a disabled blue badge.
