The room which we had upgraded to a master suite was in a general state of disrepair and not at all worth the £415 a night price that we paid. The spa was disappointing and I’d go as far as to say one of the worst I’ve visited. This was on top of the fact that we were the only guests on site who were not part of a private celebration being held there. This was never mentioned to us at booking or prior to our check in and it made for a very uncomfortable weekend for us and we didn’t want to be in the way of wedding party, so we just stayed in our room and left as soon as we could the next day. Due to the private event we were unable to sleep until this has ended due to the noise (not the fault of the celebrations at all). No air conditioning in room on but in certain functions rooms there was Breakfast was extra £16 per night and if you wanted certain items there was an extra charge on that of £5 !! The car park was a good size but there was broken glass green on several car park spaces which we told the receptionist and expected it all sweeped up but it wasn’t and took 2 days to do so . Our coordinator was Ella who came up with a bespoke package for us as it was an intimate family wedding with a large reception in the evening. We had to switch rooms because the bed was broken in our original room and we kinda got a downgrade (smaller bed, tv, broken chair, stained floor etc). No vegan options so always had to eat out or order in. The gym is a bit outdated, it's got a good selection but some things are broken and rusted but it's both quiet and active which is nice. Changing rooms/showers (nice and hot) for the pool are good. Sauna didn't seem to work, or needs instructions. Pool & Jacuzzi was really nice. Recommend taking sandals for pottering about. Probably don't suggest for a romantic weekend unless you are cool with it not being luxurious but if you want to go somewhere to chill and swim then it should do you.

I just needed somewhere near to where I was working, to have a shower and get my head down and with it having the pool, I thought it would surely be decent enough… And it was, the staff were fine albeit having to go back and forth from reception or the restaurant to deal with people at the bar possibly as they don’t want to put extra staff on to cover all areas at once, I don’t know. Plenty of parking spaces at front and side of hotel. The room was basic. Wet patch on the floor when I first arrived. Room was warm. Shower was hot and powerful enough. The room seemed to be relatively clean and tidy and house keeping was fine compared to the reviews that said otherwise. The double bed was two singles pushed together (like a lot places do) but one mattress was softer than the other so I basically had to choose one side rather than be able to lie in the middle and spread out. Distinct smell of weed/grass in the hallway every time I walked to/from my room. I’m a non-smoker and had a non-smoking room but the smell of that isn’t a big deal for me but may be for others. I’m not keen on the smell of cigarette smoke though which was more faint and a non-smoking room right beside a smoking room doesn’t make sense if you can smell it. I could also hear someone’s tv late into the night when working the next day. I fell asleep some others may not be able to. The place is definitely a bit dated so it would be nice to see some money spent to revamp it as I’m sure it would intrigue and attract people back who have been before but are of the same opinion and maybe don’t return for that reason. The pool area was decent with loads of showers. Pool was warmer than most pools in my opinion. I notice toilets dotted throughout the hotel but never had to use any other than the one in the room so can’t comment on what they were like. I didn’t see much in the way of kitchen staff but I did decide to have a meal in the restaurant one night and I chose the tomato and red pepper soup followed by the fillet of sea bass. The soup was good but the seabass was delightful, pan fried to perfection. I loved it and could have eaten another. Both better than the same meals at the Best Western along the road - imo. Breakfast wasn’t upto much - imo. So skipped it after my first morning. Coffee was ok though, again imo. Coming and going in/out of the hotel was hassle free. In my head, I feel my stay was better than the reviews I read prior but then I know there were quite a few things that could have been better. I also discovered that for literally a couple of quid more, you can stay in the Best Western and you’ll see a noticeable difference (only not with the sea bass however, as brook mollington does it better). I was of the opinion that I would return, until I realised that there is actually better value for money, just along the road. So I’ve moved on to try it out. Hope this helps someone.

The car parking is convenient (underneath the hotel) although a little pricey at £20 a night. The staff were approachable and helpful (especially Khaye on reception). The room was really well appointed and clean with great views. The hotel is situated on a busy junction so you can hear a bit of road noise but we didn’t find it too intrusive. It was a little quiet in the bar and brasserie on a Sunday but we prefer that as on race days both are really busy. Only reason we haven’t awarded 5 stars is we thought the service was a little slow, but the food was very good, we had some tapas style dishes at lunchtime and larger plates in the evening.
