World of Glass

Nestled in the heart of St Helens, the World of Glass is a captivating destination that beautifully intertwines local history with the art of glassmaking. This museum showcases an impressive array of exhibits detailing the evolution and significance of glass in the region. Visitors can enjoy live glassblowing demonstrations, which are not only mesmerizing but also educational, offering insights into this ancient craft.
A hidden gem in the heart of St Helens! The World of Glass offers a truly immersive experience, bringing to life the fascinating history of glassmaking in a way that’s engaging for both young and old. I had no idea just how rich and influential St Helens’ glass industry was — not only shaping the town, but having a real impact across the world. The exhibitions are thoughtfully put together, and the live glassblowing demonstration was a real highlight. I also learned that the nearby Sankey Canal was the first industrial canal in England, and locals used to bathe in its warm water from the glass works — a quirky bit of history I’ll never forget! The on-site café is lovely too — a great spot to relax after exploring. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area or looking for something a bit different to do locally.

Really pleasantly surprised by this place. Have heard poor things (in the past) but we have just had the loveliest day at World of Glass. We took our baby and 3 year old who absolutely loved exploring. There are lots of interactive bits for little hands. Loads of nice things to look at, beautifully preserved glassware thousands of years old. The site was impeccably clean. The outdoor space is lovely, a nice little play area at the back. We stayed for about an hour and a half but could definitely stay longer. Didn't use the cafe so can't comment on that. The only single thing that was slightly difficult were the toilets and lift are through a heavy double door which was hard to navigate by myself with the pram, having electric doors or a prop to hold them open would be really helpful as there was no one around to assist at the time. Can imagine this being hard for someone in a wheelchair or with mobility issues to get through as it opens outwards towards you. Thank you to the staff for a lovely visit.
Rebecca B — Google review
My visit to The World of Glass in St Helens was absolutely amazing. I was completely captivated by the live demonstrations, especially watching the skilled glassmakers create a beautiful red pig right before my eyes. The craftsmanship and artistry are incredible, and all of the exhibitions are absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for a unique and fascinating day out—you won't be disappointed!
Mezei K — Google review
Outstanding place. We heard about this from Johnny Vegas TV show, so i knew i just needed to go and visit what hes got there, when we arrived I was so surprised on how much else was there to see and do. Free parking on a Sunday and free to enter. Gift shop decent prices to. We easily spent a few hours here and we didn't use the cafe here, we went across into the town. We will be back 100% - next time we will ensure we watch the glass blowing part of it too :) Please if you do come here, donate to keep it going, glad we came across it
Jack T — Google review
The World of Glass is an absolute treasure, visiting the glass museum where you can even learn to blow is fascinating. Then there’s the gallery, the library, a shop stocked with beautiful glassware, jewellery, books and trinkets, and don’t forget the the cafe. Great for adults and children with many events and activities to enjoy throughout the year. They also host excellent writing workshops as well.
Paul G — Google review
Really interesting place. I have been before but still find it very informative to be able to walk around, and in, the No 9 Furnace was an experience. Hellish working conditions in those days. The displays of glass, modern stuff and historic St Helens display is great and brought back memories. It is sad that this place is struggling financially- it's free to enter; £5 to watch glass blowing - well worth it. Oh and finally that seldom seen on TV, Johnnie Vegas, has a n artwork "Love Letter to St Helens" on display in the Cone House. If you can please support it before it is lost.
Roy W — Google review
Brilliant day out. Very informative, lots of exhibits. Best if all its free, but its worth giving a donation to keep the place viable. I hadnt been for years, so glad I popped back. Next time ill get a ticket for the live glass blowing which looks very good. Highly recommended
Clifton P — Google review
Lovely staff and glassblowers. Nice to just wander around for free and glass made on the premises and by other artists is for sale. Cafe nice looking over canal and gardens, though the music was a bit too loud for us. Proper glassblowing demos are £5, but we just wandered in when empty and still saw the furnace and glassblowers working. There are blue badge spaces near entrance, but no free parking, all pay and display or via app.

The North West Museum of Road Transport is a fantastic place to visit if you are a fan of vintage vehicles. The museum boasts an extensive collection of old buses, lorries, Morris Minors and Minis. With an impressive array including Leyland Atlanteans, Bristol VRs and Dennis Dominators, this place is truly a haven for vintage vehicle enthusiasts. Visitors can also take part in a vintage bus ride around St Helens which is sure to be enjoyable for all ages.
Fantastic day out, lovely staff and good price. £6 per adult and kids free so £24 for four adults one child. Lots of buses and large vehicles to explore, small gift shop and refreshment truck with drinks and crisps etc. Includes a drive on vintage bus which we loved doing and the miniature trains room was amazing, lovely gentleman who talked to us about it all. 10 out of 10.. Going to come again. Open Sundays only and parking across the road is free on a Sunday. My favorite Ford Capri too!!
Anna C — Google review
Absolutely incredible, it really is a true hidden gem of a museum. Very well laid out and presented collection covering practically every mode of transport from cars, bicycles, vans, trams, motorbikes, trolleybuses and even trains. Something for everyone really! Volunteers were a credit to the Town, never mind the Museum, and the shop and canteen van serving food were nice touches. The vintage Bus ride out was very different and there's free parking nearby and toilets on site as well. We are already talking about coming back here.
Daniel B — Google review
Small but absolutely great place to spend lovely time on sunday in St Helens! For everyone! Many buses, and vintage cars. Also vintage bus ride around town which was £6 is included in the price for everyone. 100% recommended
Klaudia B — Google review
We visited the museum today 23/02/25 and it was amazing £6 per adult and children free, plenty of refreshments as you walk in. Gift shop needs abit of attention could do with more stock/merchandise. The vehicles are great and a credit to their owners. There are plenty of trains to watch go around and the staff are full of knowledge. We went on a bus ride that operates every hour and last for around 20/30 mins that in its self was worth the £12 we paid to enter. We spent around 2 hours in the the museum with plenty of old vehicles to look at well worth the visit
DRIVER C — Google review
Defo worth a visit even if transport isn't your thing, great place! Staff were great
Thomas R — Google review
I love it there . It so nice to see the old vehicles espeically the 80s and early 90s vehicles i.e astra G model. Also i was nice to see the crosville double decker DVL435 as my dad drove that bus for crosville when the bus was at mold depot in the 80s . I recommend this place for who into classic vehicles.

Beautiful serene and perfect little park with Lake. Ideal for a short stroll also really good if you have young children with a few different play areas. I personally love the Lake
Joanne M — Google review
The park is beautiful and it has various entrances. There are also parking areas located in different parts of the park. There are various wildlife in the area, including a turtle in the lake. This is the only park I have seen a turtle in nature, around the northwest. The park also has various children play area which is really cool. I saw few people fishing, so I guess it’s allowed? Its idea for picnic, walking and playing for children

We’re here almost daily.. it’s an extremely big park very well maintained and a lovely walk in the summer with the cafe and ice cream van open, it can get very busy at times.

Love this place, never get tired of going, kids love it, cafe is lovely as well ❤️

The blue lake is absolutely gorgeous and lovely to walk around. It’s not every day you see an actual blue lake! The children’s parks (2 of them) are well equipped for the children to enjoy, plus there’s an outdoor gym for all ages. There’s also a big field behind the lake for a sit down field picnic, or gymnastics session if you fancy it like we did (no bones broken). There are also lots of baby ducklings and cygnets if you visit in the right months (April/May). AND, LOTS of squirrels. Which we’ve fed nuts to in the past - super cute! Overall, highly recommend for the family on a sunny day & winter walks! (Ice cream van there year round. I believe there is a café which I’ve heard good things of, but I’ve never been in).

Located on Corporation Street, St Helens Theatre Royal is a historic entertainment venue that has been hosting a variety of shows and events since 1887. The theater is known for its diverse program, featuring popular touring musicals, drama, comedy acts, and pantomimes. Despite its modern exterior, the building dates back to the early 1900s and has undergone significant remodeling over the years.
Great local theatre, seen lots of brilliant shows there mainly with my grandchildren. The staff are friendly and very helpful and, the shows are always top notch. The most recent one was the American Wrestling 🤼‍♂️, which to be honest I only went because my youngest grandson wanted to see it. But what a couple of hours of good entertainment. The wrestlers kept the audience involved throughout the show. At the end of the show, they all came out onto the stage and, the audience could go up and meet them and get autographs. My grandson is still buzzing about it days later. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Dave M — Google review
Staff are generally quite good. The theatre is clean and well maintained. Show was good although one of those where three kids from a hundred are “chosen” and rest feel a bit left out. No photo ops this time but generally good.
Heather K — Google review
Just been to our 9th Panto of 2025 at the theatre royal ! They always put on an Incredible show , the casting, staging , costume , sound and lighting all brilliant , there’s loads of participation and the humour is not just for kids ! My son is autistic and I worried he’d not manage it but he’s enjoyed every single show he’s watched and stayed in his seat the entire time ! The front of house staff are absolutely amazing too and very kindly let my little girl win the golden ticket yesterday which has made her entire year! (Shout out to Angela and Julie! ) We’ll definitely be back for more shows and of course more Panto ! Get yourself there , you’ll have a Ball!

Went to see Police legend Stewart Copeland last night. What a lovely theatre St. Helens is. Had a little drink in the bar before the show, I never even knew that was there. Brilliant little area. Staff were all pleasant and knowledgeable. Overall, a great night at a great theatre. Thank you very much 👍

Attended to see The Lancashire Hotpots. Staff amazing, atmosphere amazing. An all around brilliant evening.

My partner and I watched night collar, which was a bit rubbish in our opinion. We sat in stalls row c seats 10,11. The carpet was rotten and our feet were stuck to it all night. The bright side lights hurt my sensitive eyes and the loud announcement for refreshments every 5 minutes prior to the show was too loud, too frequent and kept making me jump.

Mattress store
Dreams St Helens is a chain retailer offering a wide range of beds, mattresses, bedding, and bedroom furniture in a spacious warehouse-like setting. The store features a remarkable 20-meter-high sculpture by Jaume Plensa, unveiled in 2009. This impressive artwork, weighing 500 tons and crafted from bright white concrete with dolomite content, portrays the head of a nine-year-old girl in a meditative state.
We were looked after by Ashley in store. He went above and beyond to help us find the right bed. I cannot recommend him enough. So pleased with purchase.
Phil J — Google review
We was welcomed in store by Ashley who was very helpful and advised us of the mattress which was best suited to my elderly mums needs by completing the sleep match. My mum bought herself a single divan bed and also summer quilt covers for myself and my sister. The service was excellent Ashley was efficient and read the order back to us explaining about assembly and delivery. I would recommend the store and the quality of beds available.

The Totally Wicked Stadium is a contemporary sports arena that can accommodate up to 18,000 people. It serves as the home ground for the St Helens professional rugby league team, which was established in 1873. The stadium boasts excellent viewing options from the Eastern Terrace and Stand 23, while seating areas are available at around £25 per person. On chilly evenings, visitors can enjoy a decent atmosphere while sipping on beverages such as smooth bitter priced at £3.80 per pint.
We DJ’d a welcome home party here in one of the function rooms. The whole ground including the rooms for hire are spectacular. There are so many perks to hiring a room here. Brand new through out. Very stylish and in line with the rugby ground. Lots of staff covering the bar / catering and even provide security services.
Kevin P — Google review
Leigh v Warrington CC semi final. 110525 ; Third or forth visit, and I like this stadium. Saints have transferred from Knowsley Road successfully, and I think they have done a good job too. Obviously, visiting as an away fan, I think they have prioritised the atmosphere and a simple but efficient service for visiting fans. Just a couple of over enthusiastic stewards, barking wholly, needless, and highly unnecessary directives. All other staff friendly and helpful. Great terracing feels roomy yet still safe when that particular end full. Plenty space around the bars, no queues for toilet and a swift exit. Just a few more road signs perhaps for those who don't know the way to the stadium. Lastly. I really think St Helens have done there homework here, the atmosphere within the stadium is bang on, they have obviously thought about the architecture and the throw of the crowd noise within all areas, because the singing and roars are very well projected by the stadium, creating an excellent atmosphere. Signposts and stewards are the only slight letdown. Excellent overall.
Dan C — Google review
I love this stadium, I come all the time because I have a Liverpool women’s season ticket. I love supporting the girls. The stadium has good security and staff that can help you if you have any questions or concerns. The food is also banging, I love the hot chocolate and sweets 🤭. I really like it here, it also has good signage incase you don’t know where to go. It’s also a decent sized stadium. I love it.
Ella R — Google review
Amazing stadium, very modern. Went to watch Liverpool women's play there for the first time and super grateful for the saints lending it to us. Only reason I'm knocking a star off is because of the security staff. I had a bag that was slightly like 1cm over the limit to take in with us containing only a fleece blanket, my 8 year old is going through a phase of anxiety after a traumatic event in a crowded space and takes it to busy places with her. One security guy told me it might be slightly over and when I suggested putting it inside the carrier bag that I was given from the LFC store, he asked to check inside. Seeing it was only a blanket, he said that's fine, at my own risk basically of being asked again. Tagged my handle and off we went. The next security people who stopped us, a female trunchable type started going off on one about how he shouldn't have tagged it because he will get the sack.. mate its not what you say.. it's how you say it, and she literally was being really dramatic making a scene. When at other stadiums, my daughter has always taken her blanket in a transparent back pack that she has, so now every game we are going to have to carry It in or leave her at home. Ball ache!
Beccie D — Google review
Great stadium. Made uo its Liverpool FC Women's home ground, always a great atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and helpful. COYR

From the ground comes light. Fabulous Show. It was the first time my young daughter and great niece and nephew attended the stadium. She's watched many of the games on TV that Saints play. Great opportunity to attend. They absolutely loved it. Kiosks where fairly good at getting the ques down. Was a brilliant night. Although rained we was sat row A we didn't get wet. Would like to see more events for children and for our town. ❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️
Janice — Google review
Excellent stadium, clean, well sign posted and staff are lovely. Good amount of women toilets which is good compared to other venues I have been in that seem to have endless men's toilets. Only down side is drinks and food are expensive and they don't do programs anymore

Sherdley Park

Park
Nature & Parks
Sherdley Park, located in Sutton, is the largest public park in the borough, covering 336 acres. Once the estate of 19th-century industrialist Michael Hughes, it offers a variety of attractions including woodlands, a formal garden, a lake, and an 18-hole golf course. Visitors can enjoy different walking and jogging routes through its beautiful surroundings or relax with a picnic on its well-kept grassland and wildflower meadows.
Visited yesterday (1st March 2025) with my wife and our 3-year-old. It was a beautiful sunny Saturday, and the park was full of life. The two kids’ play areas were bustling with families, and as expected, the classic ice cream truck was parked nearby; an essential treat on a bright day! What truly stood out was the vast green open spaces. Even with so many visitors, the endless grassy fields felt spacious and serene. The view was simply breathtaking, with rolling greenery stretching as far as the eye could see. We spent over two hours soaking up the sunshine, watching our little one enjoy the play area, and just taking in the peaceful, open landscape. Sherdley Park has such a rich history and a wonderful natural setting from its historic roots to the thriving wildlife and woodlands. Whether you’re here for a family day out, a relaxing walk, or just some quiet time in nature, it’s a place you’ll want to visit again and again.
Indunil I — Google review
Brilliant morning out with the dog, lovely space to walk in, the park has plenty to keep the kids happy and the outdoor gym was also fun. Plenty of bins around so no sure why there was so much litter. Parking is free too which is a Brucie bonus 👍

Always nice and clean. Good for a walk around the pond and in the wooded areas. Always nice to stop off at The Park golf club for a bite to eat and a drink outside.

Fantastic family and pet park... Great for walking and cycling or just a nice picnic or feeding the ducks. You can then go on the outside gym
The F — Google review
Great kids playround catering for all ages and part of it is closed off to stop toddlers making a break for freedom without you noticing. There are other climbing and swinging contraptions on the hillside, but all amenities are close to the car park so it's very convenient. It's all free as well!
Philip S — Google review
Great place for family's with plenty of options in a good area however can become packed on summer days and unsafe later in the day however this is to be expected with all parks no more so than in the gardens.
Mavis — Google review
Used to be excellent in my youth when the whole community got involved with sherdley show etc. Police/fire/military all did displays. Now they just put on overpriced carnival rides. Used to have the animal corner, that had been dropped too.

Attended the Manchester Cross Country league at Sherdley Park today — Lots of hills, trees, and wide open spaces (occasional muddy patches). Some of the paths and cycle ways have been recently resurfaced🌳🌲🍁🍂

The Dream Sculpture, a 20-meter-high pre-cast concrete head, stands as a symbol of hope and ambition at the former site of Sutton Manor Colliery in St Helens. This iconic public art piece offers panoramic views and serves as an inspiring backdrop for memorable photos. Set against the picturesque countryside, it provides a visually stunning and deeply meaningful experience.
We enjoyed our visit. The Dream statue and information monuments were interesting. The woodlands around the statue are full of a life with a wide variety of plants. There are plenty of lanes to wander along and enjoy a walk. It is good to see how what was once a slag heap from coal mining is now a place to relax, remember and enjoy.
Doreen H — Google review
clean, dog-friendly place. Perfect for a Sunday walk with a great sculpture. Car parking nearby.
Ana A — Google review
Interesting sculpture. We parked in the free car park where the Dream tourist road signs led us to. It was a short walk to the sculpture on well maintained paths. The paths through the woodland (which were the coal pits) are wide, stony, and easily accessible for many people. There's plenty of different paths to take too. It's well signposted to the sculpture with plenty of benches and some information boards.
Donna W — Google review
We visited at night. Contrary to some of the images I found online, the sculpture is not lit during the evenings. The path surrounding the statue is pitch black as well so I’d thoroughly recommend going when the sun is out.

Hidden Monumental Calm with a Modern Edge Dream in St Helens is one of those places that leaves an impression the moment you see it—but only if you know where to look. It’s tucked away just off the M62, practically hidden in plain sight. You wouldn’t expect something so serene to exist only yards from the steady hum of motorway traffic, but somehow, it does—and that contrast gives it a quiet power. The sculpture itself is striking. Towering at 20 metres tall, the elongated face of a young girl with closed eyes stands frozen in thought, like it’s meditating above the chaos. Made from brilliant white concrete and quartz, it reflects sunlight in a way that gives it a ghostly glow on bright days. It’s both eerie and peaceful, modern yet timeless. From a distance it almost looks like a digital rendering dropped into the landscape, but up close, it’s tactile and grounded. There’s a short, mostly flat walk through woodland to reach it from the nearby car park, maybe 10–15 minutes at most depending on your pace. The path is well maintained, and although signage could be better in places, you get there easily enough with a bit of common sense. It’s a nice little stroll in itself, especially on a calm day. The space opens up as you approach, revealing the sculpture slowly rather than all at once. It’s a lovely bit of design—intentional or not. Flying my drone there added a whole extra layer. From above, you get a completely different sense of scale. The way the sculpture rises out of the old Sutton Manor colliery site is genuinely powerful. It commands the land it’s on, without shouting. Peaceful, thoughtful, and oddly moving when seen from the air. For anyone into photography or drone work, this is a brilliant subject—just be mindful of the area and check you're clear to fly. The sculpture was built to honour the mining heritage of the area and the people who worked there. That history isn’t heavy-handed—there’s no museum here, no overdone storytelling—but you can feel it. The land has a memory to it, and Dream sits right in the middle like a quiet witness. There are benches along the way, bits of art embedded in the trails, and even information plaques if you stop to read them. It’s not busy unless you go on a sunny weekend, and even then, there’s enough open space to sit, reflect, take some photos, and enjoy the quiet. You’re never totally isolated—the sound of the M62 is always there—but it becomes background noise after a while, more like a distant river than a disruption. Parking is free and reasonably close, though it’s not signed clearly from the main roads. The local council could do a better job of guiding visitors in, especially with sat navs sometimes taking odd routes. Once you’re parked, though, it’s a smooth and easy visit. --- Final Thoughts This isn’t an all-day attraction, and it doesn’t pretend to be. You come here for a walk, a bit of quiet, and to take in something thoughtful. Dream is one of the best examples of public art in the region. It feels well-placed, well-meaning, and surprisingly emotional once you take a moment to slow down with it. Would I go back? Absolutely—especially at sunrise or sunset. It’s an ideal stop if you're passing through the area or want a quick mental reset. Just don’t expect bells and whistles—this is minimalism done right.
Phil K — Google review
Lovely walk up the hill, then all of a sudden it's there!
Janette N — Google review
Really nice and scenic park. It is a good park to take the dogs for a walk or run. There are quite a few small animals that can be spotted on the trail like ducks, rabbits and various birds. The sculpture is quite impressive up close and there is a lot of interesting information regarding the sculpture on a sign. Around the trails are unique little sculptures with beautiful quotes, each small sculpture has a different quote, making each unique. This is a good path to take children on and isn’t too steep or long for little children. I would recommend going on this little walk to experience some interesting local history.

Standing 20 metres tall on the site of the former Sutton Manor Colliery in St Helens, Jaume Plensa’s Dream is a striking and contemplative public artwork that captures both the memory of the past and the promise of the future. Commissioned as part of Channel 4’s Big Art Project and shaped in close collaboration with former miners, the sculpture symbolises a town’s desire not to dwell solely on what was lost, but to look forward with optimism and grace. The sculpture itself – a serene, elongated head of a young girl with closed eyes – evokes a meditative stillness. Cast in white concrete mixed with Spanish dolomite, its luminous surface stands in deliberate contrast to the coal that once lay beneath the ground. In this way, Plensa transforms the landscape’s industrial legacy into a quiet beacon of renewal. St Helens’ old motto, Ex Terra Lucem (“From the ground, light”), finds tangible expression in this hauntingly beautiful form. Technically, Dream is an impressive feat of engineering. Comprising 90 individual panels and weighing over 370 tonnes, it is anchored deep into the reclaimed spoil heap on which it rests. Its placement—just off the M62—ensures visibility to tens of thousands of motorists each day, further enhancing its role as a public landmark. More than a monument, Dream has become a cultural icon for the region. It attracts upwards of 85,000 visitors annually and has been featured in media such as the Netflix drama Stay Close. Awards and accolades—including the 2009 Marsh Award for Excellence in Public Sculpture and a Civic Trust Award—affirm its impact not only as a work of art but as a deeply resonant community project. That said, the visitor experience is not without some limitations. Access via forest trails is scenic but can be challenging for those with reduced mobility. Additionally, concerns have been raised about limited amenities and overgrown vegetation that can partially obscure the sculpture. Plans for night-time illumination remain unrealised, which some feel would enhance its visibility and atmosphere. Nonetheless, Dream endures as a powerful symbol of transformation. Its success lies in its emotional clarity: the calm face, the closed eyes, the upward gaze—all suggesting inner reflection, hope, and the courage to dream. In a place once defined by hard labour underground, Plensa offers a vision that rises above.

Had a great time, watched Limehouse Lizzy , a really good as tribute band as bands go , got all the crowd involved, Citadel a nice atmosphere as it's a small venue ,but worth a visit, it has a bar, prices a little more than local pubs but loads cheaper than the big venues IV visited, staff where friendly and the place was clean . Ticket prices where very good £15 to watch a great gig excellent.. Give it a try can't go wrong
Gary F — Google review
Great independent venue, such a shame this government has cut the arts funding so much that, after many years of hosting some great bands and acts it is now closing in 2019.
Christine M — Google review
Small intimate venue in the town centre. Large car park nearby which is free after 7pm. Balcony seating available, otherwise standing. Due to the slope of the downstairs floor, visibility of stage is obscured by the overhang of the balcony unless near the front. Has a bar, and drinks allowed in the auditorium.

Possibly the best restaurant in St Helens. The food is absolutely delicious, and exactly like tapas in Spain. The restaurant itself is lovely, and the staff were excellent. I would highly recommend the Octopus in red wine - unreal! Will definitely return!

First visit to this gem! Last night, before going to St Helens Theatre Royal, Georgia, was extremely informative, as my partner is Gluten intolerant, & advised what he could have, tapas delicious, plenty to choose from, 😀 my partner even had Gluten free beer on draught! He was well chuffed, definitely worth a second visit, please support this family run business! Well done to you all!

I frequented this restaurant many years ago when living in St. Helens with my now wife. Revisited for our anniversary recently and the 2hr drive was worth it, it's still THE BEST tapas restaurant by a mile. Food is off the scale delicious.

Absolutely amazing home cooked food and very reasonably priced. Braising steak (special) was the best I’ve ever had! And I tried the beef sizzler my partner had and that was lovely, the homemade chunky chips are the out of this world. The staff are warm & welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. Landlady & Landlord are lovely too, even the first time we went it was like we’d known them for years so friendly and chatty :)

19TH MARCH 2025. ‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took both Hubby Neil and I to a new place….. ‘The Wheatsheaf’ in St. Helens. I proper olde Worlde pub full of sport memorabilia and photos of local businesses of days gone by, there is bad subsidence with all of the mining of yesteryear’s and feels like your walking down a slope but it definitely adds to the character and charm of the old pub….. it still has the old waitress service button bells on the walls around the top of seating areas….. where years ago you pushed the button to alert the waitress to your table to take your drink orders….. they may still work but I didn’t press it!!! Tempted though!!! Another great pub that serves proper homemade food and plenty of it too! Both went straight to entrée’s: Neil had proper homemade chunky chips, peas, fresh carrots and a HUGE suet pudding…… with thick, rich, glossy gravy and more in a little jug on the side. I had had the mixed grilled!!! It was HUGE! ‘Desperate Dan’ would have struggled to eat it….. Neil had to help me out eating it……and this is why! Rib eye steak, a full chicken breast, a massive pork chop, thick slice of gammon, two sausages, onion rings, tomato, mushrooms, black pudding, chunky chips and two eggs!! I ordered a side of peppercorn sauce and a wheelbarrow to take me out in!!! Waiting time was cooking time, the two ladies that served us, sadly I forgot to ask their names, were very attentive, polite and made us feel welcome…… Thank you…xx This is an old pub, with old decor but that’s the style of this establishment…… the food was amazing and as you can guess, VERY filling, we were going to have starter too 😳thankfully we decided not too!!! Excellent choices on the menu, something for everyone. Would we go back? That’s a definite YES!

Just had our first visit and it was amazing!!! Ordered home made steak and ale pie and steak and kidney pudding. Both were beautifully cooked, full of flavour and just so delicious!! Food came out cooked to perfection, nice and hot and looked beautiful. Dipped each of my chips into the gravy savouring every one!!! Chips like your Mum used to make - what's not to love?!?!?!? Only regret was that I was too full to have a dessert!! Will definitely try again next time. Was very quiet ( 4.30 on a Friday afternoon) and because there was only two other tables taken everyone was whispering but by the time I started eating, I would have happily sat by myself alone in a corner!!! Absolutely beautiful food and will definitely be going again - SOON!!!

Excellent pub food, one of the best steak & ale pies I've ever had. Lovely pub, really old traditional feel. Nice starters and deserts and some good offers on too.

Just love the Wheatsheaf and go back time and time again. It never disappoints. A traditional pub, it has a lovely welcoming charm. The pub floor slopes so when you walk through the door you feel like you’ve already had about six glasses of wine! But it just adds to the quaintness of this lovely pub. The food is always cooked fresh and fabulous and the service always friendly. I just love the sizzling platter, sweet Chili chicken my favourite! There’s also a large selection of gorgeous desserts and an extensive menu ranging from lunchtime snacks to Sunday lunch. It has a lovely big beer garden with plenty of outdoor seating as well as some all weather pods for when the weather is bad. Looking forward to my next visit

First time coming here and it did not disappoint. Home cooked food, large portions (they do give takeaway boxes if you don't manage to finish. It has a lovely homely feel, like you went to your mums for tea!

Preordered food before we arrived and waited 1 hour and 20 mins politely spoke to the assist manager who was very rude. The pub was very dirty and the service was terrible. The food was ok but I’ve definitely had much better. Will not be returning and would not recommend due to the awful attitude of the staff.

Known for its freshly made meals and snacks, this cozy cafe offers a warm atmosphere where guests feel like royalty from the moment they step inside. Whether you're stopping by for a hearty breakfast or enjoying lunch with friends, the attentive staff ensures every detail is taken care of.
Had a lovely lunch here today. The food was great and we received friendly, efficient service with a smile. The smoked salmon and egg in the photo should have been served on a bagel, but the other half asked for wholemeal toast instead which was no problem to change. I will be returning to sample some of the rather nice cakes that they have available soon, was too full today! Already looking forward to my next visit 🙂

Tried Toast this morning for a breakfast Unfortunately I didn't think it was very good . Cost £12.. and seems like most of it was undercooked. The black pudding was a thick slab, that wasn't cooked all the way through . The toast wasn't toasted enough.. just bread and the egg had popped when I got it , so the yolk had disappeared. The sausages tasted pretty good, but had a slight spicy taste to them , not really ones you would have for breakfast. And we were sat in the outside part. So within a few mins our food had gone cold ! Why not use warm plates ? I've been to other places for breakfast and paid less, had more items and much nicer quality

A hidden gem in St Helens. I had homemade tomato soup with half a baguette and 2x flat whites. Good price but this place can literally be under the radar as so hidden. Parking is limited. Great attentive staff and the choice was great. Good Breakfast and Lunch options, worth a look.

The perfect place for a special birthday family gathering ! Fabio and the gorgeous Toast team made sure everything was perfect - good, setting, timings, drinks… nothing was too much trouble, staff were super friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make sure the evening ran smoothly and was as chilled as possible. They catered considerately and sensitively for our vegans, rustled up 5 rounds of toast at a moments notice for kids, and managed a full bar as well as cups of tea on demand! Also stored our own birthday cake with no fuss and made space for us to decorate etc. Our guests loved it and I can’t recommend this cute little venue & brilliant team highly enough!
Kathryn E — Google review
On arrival, the venue was quite busy and we were initially told there was no indoor seating available. After settling outside, we were informed that indoor seating was actually available, so we moved inside. We ordered a breakfast (with decaf coffee) and a soup. After around 20 minutes, our drinks arrived, but the coffee wasn’t decaf as requested, so it had to be remade and brought over. After waiting 45 minutes, just as we were about to ask about our food, it was finally served. The breakfast was missing a sausage, which we were told would be brought over shortly. We also noticed the mushrooms were missing and had to request those separately. The breakfast itself wasn’t great—the poached egg looked like it had been sitting out for a while. The soup was fine. We ate and left soon after. When asked about the meal, we said it was okay, but by that point we were ready to leave.
D W — Google review
Good overall experience, tasty food and good portion sizes. The only thing that lead me to 4 starts was we felt the blonde lady member of staff taking our order was a bit rude, also noticed she was the same to other customers and staff.

Normally can't fault this place but really poor show today guys. Took 45 mins to receive order although three people served before us and arrived after and never got what we asked for. Can't fault the young Irish girl on floor, leave it there!!

At The New Era Greeks, diners are consistently captivated by the restaurant's genuine Greek ambiance and generous portions. Guests rave about the delightful variety of dishes, from meat to vegetarian options, all bursting with flavor. The friendly staff enhances the experience, making it a perfect spot for gatherings or special occasions. While many enjoyed their meals—like tasty hummus and pita or succulent octopus—some noted minor issues like a tricky QR menu and unexpected service charges.
Went out for dinner with my friends. The food was great, the service was exceptional, the restaurant looks beautiful, and the sever which I believe is called Christina was very kind and helpful. Really enjoyed the time and experience spent there.
Mohammed D — Google review
Saw this place on Just-Eat but didn't see the sense in paying near-restaurant prices for a home delivery, when we could just get off our backsides and go for a meal instead. There's no free parking nearby unless you arrive after 6 p.m. so bear that in mind if you're driving. The restaurant itself has a nice Greek charm about it, and they've done a good job of making you feel like you're in an authentic taverna. There's even a small shop within the restaurant itself to buy some "Greek groceries", which was a nice touch. The staff were very attentive and friendly - very much service with a smile. As we were driving we ordered what the menu said was "Greek orangeade" but for £4 for a small glass we were disappointed that it seemed to be Fanta - there was nothing to suggest otherwise. For starters we had the prawn saganaki supreme. The dish itself was very flavoursome but the portion size was on the small side, even for a starter. This is a favourite of ours when we go to Greece and servings tend to be more generous in true tavernas. For mains we had souvlaki and gyros - both being the mixed variety to sample the different meats. Both smelled amazing as they were brought to the table. Overall the standard was very good. My husband felt some of the gyros was too fatty but that might just be personal taste. Overall the bill (with a 10% service charge automatically added) came to just over £90. We'll visit again in the future to try different dishes and then decide after that whether this might become a regular place to come to.
Matthew — Google review
Good food overall, although not something exceptional. I expected a bit more from the meatballs with hylopites, but it was not very close to the traditional taste, somehow sweeter than it should too. The mix grill was decent enough (although they should throw a loukaniko in), with nice crispy fries and the moussaka was pretty good too. The price to portion size ratio was not as good as some other places if you are looking for value, but as I said it was a nice meal overall.
D K — Google review
The food was delicious and fresh. The staff were friendly, and the place was clean and cozy. The portion size was good for the price. I really enjoyed it and would come back again!

Lovely authentic Greek dishes, portions sizes are great, struggled to eat all of it! Staff was welcoming, friendly and polite. Great value for money, if you want that Greek tavern feeling. Can’t wait for the Greek nights and plate smashing!!!

Best Greek Restaurant in Town! This is hands down the best Greek food I’ve had outside of Greece. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and every dish tastes homemade. The souvlaki was tender and juicy, and the baklava was the perfect sweet ending. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Definitely coming back soon!

Called in today for some food at lunchtime before going to the Theatre Royal and we are so glad we did. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and they made a table available for us as they were busy. The atmosphere was nice and chilled and it is like stepping back in time which we really like. My wife had the High Tea and I had the Ham, Eggs and Chips and we can honestly say the food was simply delicious. Mine was cooked fresh and there was plenty on the plate and my wife loved her High Tea and we both passed on our compliments to the staff. Their pricing is very reasonable and there is a great choice of food and specials available. Honestly we had great food here and would recommend anyone to pay them a visit and try Lilys. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. The sausage and bacon were great quality too. I find for the quality of the meal, the service and the portion sizes the prices are very fair. I enjoyed the vibe of the place and the esthetics, only 1 toilet and it's up a flight of stairs not good for those who can't climb stairs, was also a small bathroom so would be difficult to share it with your child. The prices were a bit much, a chocolate sponge pudding with custard was £6.95 it was a smaller pudding that those you get from Iceland that you cook in the microwave. The chicken and bacon panini was ok could only taste cheese it came with a small salad. Cappuccino did taste nice. You have to spend £10 minimum to pay on your card. The servers were really nice and friendly, I would go again if someone invited me but it wouldn't be my first choice due to it being not a lot for your money.

First time in this lovely little cafe. Its clean the food is plentiful, the atmosphere is relaxed and I personally can't eat food when there is loud music. The music here is reminiscent of years gone by. It makes my blood boil when the St Helens and not forgetting Arriva have not thought about how all this refurbishment is affecting this small family businesses. Its a disgrace. I will certainly be back and an important point Its licenced! I would hope that one does visit, you won't be disappointed.

Visited today after a suggestion from a friend the nicest thing I am going to say is the staff were welcoming and pleasant other than that for me meals are over priced for what you get. Updated!! In response to the owners reply. I am not and have never been a liar! I have no reason at all to post untrue reviews for any business. The pictures I took did not have a flash on. It was 9pm at night so obviously I had a light on but no flash! It seems they have a very negative response to every single person who has given them a poor review. Accusing people of being defamatory towards their business. Honestly, they would look better as a business if they admitted the food they delivered to me was abysmal and apologised. I don't want anything from them I was simply making people aware that this is what we received and to avoid it. I did also say that the Thai Red curry and rice was nice but unfortunately that was the only part of the order that we ate. As for it not being tolerated, what's she guna do? Sue me for saying her food is terrible and posting factual information? This is the whole reason I didn't call them, as I didn't want an argument but I will be ringing when I am free. I left this review on just eat but only the star rating was made public. I never ever leave reviews anywhere but the food we received was absolutely disgusting! No exaggeration. The photos speak for themselves. Was also told today by an ex member of staff that they make everything in batches, and then microwave it. I really don't know how people leave 5 star reviews for this place.

I'm kicking myself that I have never tried this place for over 30 years. I'm not sure if it's the same chef, but now that I appreciate good food, the dishes I had here ticked the box! We were the only ones in which reduced the atmosphere. This place deserves to be full - fantastic food.

This unique establishment is run by catering students who showcase their culinary skills in a stylish setting adorned with designer decor and expansive glass walls. Guests can enjoy a variety of dishes, including standout options like ham hock paired with fresh vegetables. While some diners noted that the menu could benefit from additional choices, many praised the quick service and overall quality of the meals.
This was our 1st visit to Colours Restaurant. What an absolute gem. The service was excellent and the food delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. We had lunch. 3 courses, 2 coffees and I had a medium glass of wine. Very reasonably priced at £41.00. We were a little dubious about being the only ones in the restaurant at the time and thought that we mught feel like we were being watched. However we should not have worried. The staff were attentive and not intrusive and there was a great choice of music playing. I think St Helen's should be so proud of this restaurant, it's young people that are training for a career in hospitality and of course the team behind them. Thank you and we can't wait for our next visit x

I was very excited to try colours. I love the concept of the restaurant and it's good value for money. I loved the layout of the restaurant and the way the tables are set out. Its very professional and Antonio runs a tight ship. You receive a home made bread roll with butter which is a nice touch. The bread was a little bit too sweet for my liking. For the starter I had the goats cheese. I loved the presentation but was not overwhelmed. The flavours were balanced but some sort of drizzle like balsamic wouldn't go a miss. For the main, I had chicken breast, pasta puttanesca sauce and it came with potatoes mushy cauliflower and carrots ?? I found the combination very odd. The sauce was lovely as was the chicken. Not too sure about the accompanying vegetables. The triple cooked chips were nice, could have been firmer. Overall, not overwhelmed but it was a nice way to spend the evening whilst supporting local talent. This place has the potential to be excellent if the students were more careful with cooking times and refined the side dishes.

Lovely meal with friends on a Friday. Lunch. Nothing was rushed and it was not too busy. The meals were delivered very quickly after ordering. One small mistake in the starters was soon rectified. The cost of three courses and coffee at £13 was good value. Would certainly go again even as a couple and would recommend giving it a try if you haven't done already.

Such a lovely place to eat. Friendly service and beautiful food. Will definitely be returning and recommend without hesitation.

Would really give it 4.5 stars. Food is excellently prepared and well presented. On my last visit the desert was not easy to eat. Fresh fruit Pavlov but the meringue was like a small rugby ball and difficult to cut and short of some cream. Taste was fine.

Ham hock & vegetables were really nice, but very salty. Sticky toffee pudding & toffee sauce was ok. Service was good, only our party of 30 in there on a Thursday night, otherwise it would have been empty with no atmosphere. Place was spotlessly clean. Not enough choice for me with only 4 main meals available, maybe increase this to 6. Personally I struggled for choice as I only tried the ham hock as a last resort.

The menu boasts a delightful selection of classic British dishes, ensuring there's something to satisfy every palate.
We had Christmas lunch here this year. It was fantastic. The food , the service, everything about it was incredible. The whole team of people were incredibly professional but polite and could not do enough for us. Well done to all in particular our waitress who’s name was Jayne ( thanks for Making our Christmas Day extra special) to be honest I’m not the biggest fan of eating out on Christmas Day but I’d go here every year because it really was that special. ! A big thanks to all you should be extremely proud of yourselves. Happy new year ! 🥳

This was our first time visiting this pub. We travelled from Bolton as we had heard such great reviews and I can honestly say it didn't disappoint. We visited with friends on a Sunday so was offered the Sunday lunch menu, as well as a Specials menu. This is what I opted for. Rump of Lamb cooked perfectly pink with a salsa verde dressing, roasted baby potatoes and greens. My husband ordered the slow cooked rib of beef which literally fell off the bone. In his opinion, one of the best beef he's ever had! A side order of the Cauliflower Cheese is a must 🧀😁 Our friends also had the rib of beef and his wife the roast beef dinner. The Yorkshire puddings are huge! Service was efficient. The Malborough Sauvignon Blanc was delicious 👌 Although the portion sizes are huge we all still managed to save a little room for pudding. All 10/10. The place was quite busy, not many spare tables which always speaks volumes... Great value for money and certainly lived up to its reputation. Highly recommend and we will certainly be returning very soon.

Nice place with a good menu. It seemed like a fairly big establishment with not too many staff. The main waiter who served us was very friendly and a good laugh. Others tried to avoid eye contact at all costs. Drinks service was fast and food was pretty slow. Worth a visit if you were a couple or small family. The fish and chips was very tasty, I'd say average size or a pub meal. The other meals were all rated very nice by the rest of my group.

Went for tea with the Husband my dad and mother in law on Saturday night. As soon as we went in we where greeted and then shown to our table the staff gave us a menu to look over and came back shortly after for our drinks order, the staff where very polite and content. The waitress came back for our food order and shortly afterward our food was served piping hot and delicious. We had main course and dessert they where both spot on, our server / waitress was Gemma and she couldn’t do enough for us , I’m fussy and pre fare a jacket over chips she said she would sort it. And she did . Thank you to Gemma and the rest of the staff for such a pleasant time , I am sure we will be back.

Popped in for lunch today and felt immediately at home. A nice cosy atmosphere and attentive, friendly staff. We both had 4oz rump steak sandwich with side salad and chips. We couldn't resist a pudding and settled on Bramley Apple Pie and a Salted Caramel Sundae.

A Perfect Birthday Celebration! My recent birthday meal for four at The Bottle and Glass in Rainford was absolutely fantastic—a well-deserved five stars! From the moment we walked in, the experience was wonderful. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient, making us feel welcome and ensuring nothing was too much trouble. The drinks were a great start. The Guinness on draught was poured to perfection, and there's a large choice of wine to pick from. The food was the true highlight. We loved our starters: the butternut squash soup was very tasty, the baked brie was superbly presented and delicious, and the whipped goat's cheese with pistachio was, without a doubt, the best I have ever had. For mains, everyone was impressed. The gammon was a good-sized portion, and the Steak and Ale Pie was tasty and full of very tender beef. The accompanying vegetables were all cooked perfectly. Desserts finished the meal perfectly. The salted caramel sundae ticked all the boxes, and the Bakewell tart was true to its authentic recipe and simply oozed almond goodness. The meal was also very competitively priced, and using our Taste Card saved us a generous 25% on the total bill, which was an excellent bonus. Overall, it was a great night out, offering excellent food and service in a lovely setting. We will definitely be back!

We have eaten here for many years however I am very sad over the past 4-5 months the food has been extremely poor. The bottle and glass was always a place we would highly recommend however unfortunately this is no longer the case. The food we have been served on several occasions recently has been nothing but poor. I would never usually post comments on a public domain as I believe in supporting local businesses however the food we have been recently served has played on mind. As previously said, food here recently has been poor however we thought we would give it one last try for breakfast. Wow, where do I start….firstly my husband ordered scrambled eggs. The scrambled eggs came….had been microwaved! When my husband asked the staff we were told that’s how they make their scrambled eggs. My daughter had ordered poached eggs…the chef was having difficulties with the poached egg so this came out 10min separate to her breakfast and when it finally did come out it was completely burst. Finally (the worst of all) I was eating my breakfast and had to stop as I found 2 black hairs in my food (i have blonde hair). The waitress was lovely (and very mortified), she removed the cost of mine and my daughters breakfast. The breakfast was absolute disaster. After having so many lovely memories here at the bottle and glass I am sorry we will no longer return.

The Abbey is a delightful pub that truly embodies warmth and hospitality. Recently, the family of the late Neil Webster expressed their gratitude for the exceptional buffet and attentive bar staff, highlighting the delicious food options available. The Abbey caters to various dietary needs, offering vegetarian choices upon request and gluten-free sandwiches clearly marked for those with specific requirements. With an inviting atmosphere, this dog-friendly establishment welcomes furry companions alongside their owners to enjoy a meal together.
Really nice pub! A dog friendly pub where you can even take your dog in and have a meal! Staff where so friendly & always smiling! Welcoming atmosphere! The outdoor seating was amazing with heaters & tvs. Food was amazing! Lots of offers available. Parking at the rear of the building or a side street. Definately will be going back here! Glad we reserved a table as it was busy!

Myself and 3 friends dined at the Abbey Hotel recently. The whole of the menu looked appetising. We all chose to have the special offer price £21.95 for main course and either starter or desert plus a drink. We couldn’t fault the presentation of food, excellent service and staff very friendly and courteous.. well worth a visit very clean.

Always a warm welcome. Lovely staff throughout. Great tapas/light bites and good selection of meals. Fairly priced beverages and good choice of ale/beer/cider, updated with new self scoring dartboard and plenty of large screen tv indoors and outdoors with all sporting events catered for, all in all an excellent pub dog friendly with a fantastic landlord/landlady keeping everything shipshape 👍

Keeli R — Google review
We came here shortly after 7pm on a Sunday bank holiday weekend to have some drinks and few bites from the menu. As weather still stayed nice we decided to stay outside in the beer garden. Only when my husband went to the bar to order drinks, he was told that to order food he needs to stay inside, no food allowed outside after 7pm. However table next to us was having mains and it was close to half 7 at that point. I took the drinks my husband ordered and went back to the bar requesting a full refund saying we are leaving. They didn’t really want to issue us a refund and take the drinks back (drinks were not touched), and argument carried on for a while on how ridiculous this is, we even suggested to put on their system any table from inside and we will take our portion of chips outside, still we were not allowed and were told, if we do that, they will come outside and will ask us to come back in. When challenged on a fact why is there a couple eating two mains outside at half 7 and not been asked to come in, all they had to say they ordered before 7pm, which made even less sense. We are arguing the fact about eating outside after 7pm, not the fact that food service has been stopped from 7pm. Rules won’t be applied to all the customers across the board in this pub. After few minutes some lady came out and and said we will serve you food, so we got our order placed and had a portion of chips outside!!! What an achievement!! Absolutely ridiculous!! What a terrible experience!! I would suggest the big board that pub has in the beer garden displayed inviting people to eat outside must have a note in capital letters added - no food outside after 7pm!!

We held a lovely wake following my dad's funeral here. The staff were friendly and compassionate. They gave us lots of time and space, ensuring that everyone was comfortable we didn't feel rushed in anyway. They provided a great buffet and allowed us to take home any leftovers at the end. I would highly recommend the Abbey, we were very happy with them as a venue choice.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport

International airport
Airport
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is located in a city known for its rich history and cultural significance. The airport offers a convenient gateway to explore the birthplace of The Beatles and home to renowned football clubs. Visitors can enjoy a quintessential British gastropub experience at The Monro, which features a charming courtyard and an inviting atmosphere. In addition to exploring the city's vibrant arts and culture scene, travelers can indulge in diverse dining experiences, from dockside eateries to fine-dining restaurants.
Great airport! It’s a small one terminal airport so if you land there, you’re out very quickly with clear signage about how to get away. Leaving is super nice as it’s mainly Ryanair and Easyjet. There’s a Greggs before you enter the secured area and it’s quite cheap compared to after security. Security was busier than I expected for such a small airport but it was fast, highly efficient (nothing had to be taken out of the bag and barely any bags got pulled out) and everyone was courteous and friendly, very welcoming! Gates are announced close to departure which I don’t like and there’s a small waiting area with some food options in the secured area. WiFi wasn’t strong enough for me to still have it in the gate area 3 and above. Overall, really enjoyed that airport!

This is my first time flying from Liverpool airport, and I must say, it is far less stressful than a certain other airport...beginning with M! Nice, small terminal. Check in with Jet2 was quick and easy, as was security control.
Small G — Google review
Liverpool Airport is small but quite modern. If you’re feeling hungry, I’d recommend grabbing a coffee or a drink at Greggs. The bag checks are done quickly – you don’t need to take things out – and the whole security process is quite high-tech. Do arrive early though, as they tend to have fewer staff around lunchtime, so things can slow down a bit. Bring a jacket – you have to walk outside to get to the plane and it’s often quite chilly with the wind, though it doesn’t take long. Overall, my experience at Liverpool Airport has been a good one – the staff are friendly and everything runs smoothly
IGOR — Google review
Never flown from Liverpool before. It was easy to get to. The meet and greet was straightforward and easy with a short walk to the terminal. Checking in the bags and security were quick and efficient. Our plane left on time. A great experience going and coming back. So much more pleasant than the bigger airports I've used.
Laura R — Google review
Several free water refills (before and after security) would be great. Very limited options to eat or drink pre-security. If you have check-in luggage you must stay in pre-security area for several hours for any connecting flight. Apparently you can drop off your luggage 3 hours until departure time.
Arunas B — Google review
Great efficient airport. Much much more organised than Manchester. Simple layout. One floor check ins and exit and top floor gates. Plenty of choice. Starbucks burger king etc. Smoking area easy access. Large selection of duty free. Good security
Paul — Google review
Ample parking right next to arrivals/ departures - pricey of course at 12 pounds for an hour's stay! Quiet and with a few shops and coffee places available.
Claire W — Google review
That’s a really nice airport - friendly staff, cool design, and posters with The Beatles.

Manchester Airport

International airport
Airport
Manchester Airport (MAN) is a bustling 3-terminal airport with national rail connections and flights to various destinations worldwide. It offers a range of facilities including shops, self-check-in kiosks, and parking spaces, although parking can be pricey. The airport provides quick check-in procedures and an array of dining and shopping options. While it may lack some staff for inquiries, the new Terminal 3 has improved convenience and reduced queues compared to other terminals.
Passport control has been massively improved since my last international trip a few years ago. The flight arrived early, we got through passport control super quick and my baggage only took 15-20 mins to show up on the carousel. Express pickup area was convenient and made it easy to get the Uber.
Baz P — Google review
It was a great Airport especially Terminal 2! The interior design was great and it was fascinating to be there. The only problem is that when I was collecting my luggage they would only send out 2-3 luggage every few minutes or so and that nearly made me miss my train! Great experience though.
Fabio S — Google review
Came on a train four hours before the flight so no rush. I had to walk to Terminal 3 but the signs were clearly displayed so it was easy to follow. Used toilets twice and although both were reasonably clean, it was smelling really bad in one of them. Waiting area after the security check was packed, so I had to wander for a few minutes to find a seat with enough personal space around me. Plenty of places to eat and drink.
Vintage K — Google review
Arrived at Manchester Airport with time to spare — parking was easy to find and clearly signed. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were helpful and polite. Security took around 20 minutes, which felt reasonable for a busy weekday morning. Once through, Terminal 2 was bright, clean, and full of decent food and coffee spots. Grabbed a quick bite and found plenty of seating near the gate. Boarding was well-organised, and staff kept things moving without fuss. Overall, a solid travel experience — efficient, comfortable, and much improved from a few years ago. Just arrive early, especially during peak times, and you’ll be fine.
Abdullah A — Google review
I've been here 4 times, and it's been a good, straightforward journey getting to and from the gates. My favourite terminal has to be T2 as it has a good variety of shops and the gates aren't too far away.
Connor C — Google review
Well what a change in Terminal 2 now the renovations are just about complete. It no longer feels like Luton airport in the 1970s. Lovely modern spacious ambience, fast efficient security, clean and tidy with a fast train link. Great shopping and eating too. What more could you ask for.
Martin F — Google review
It’s a good airport. Modern. Well appointed. Good facilities and amenities. Not much in departures before security. There is a WH Smith and a Starbucks. Protip: nowhere to sit in departures really so might not want to arrive too early. Can sit on the cement blocks outside if the weathers ok. After security the Duty Free is epic. The eatery options decent. Seating options are significantly better. Adequate. Another Protip: Boots is a really great store in my experience for travel amenities and snacks. Good variety of options and so many of the things you may be looking for at a reasonable price.
Kris T — Google review
Manchester Airport is a very smooth, very well organised airport. Being one of the busiest airports in the UK, it's absolutely amazing. There's a lot of car parking by the airport and it's a very affordable price. Manchester Airport has a humongous selection, and 3 terminals make it spread out, and the ATC knows how to make sure the runways are running smoothly. Absolutely amazing airport, and I would highly recommend it. It's also got a great planespotting place with a British Airways Concorde on show!. P.S. : The planespotting area costs £5 for entry, but it's worth it.
