Largo das Forras is the charming town square of Tiradentes, featuring the City Hall and a variety of craft stores, restaurants, and pousadas. This historical square holds significance as it was where slaves celebrated the abolition of slavery in 1888. The area offers an array of dining options including restaurants, dessert shops, and coffee houses. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the Royal Road Automobile Museum and Santo Antonio Church.
Anything near Tiradentes is beautiful and worth the trip. Very historical colonial Brasil

Central Square of Tiradentes. Very popular historic city in Minas. If you are interested in good food and the consolidation (and subsequent mark up) of local crafts. This is the place for you. I would suggest traveling to multiple cities within 50 Km and you will find the people that are creating these crafts, saving money and better understanding the culture of Minas.

Igreja de Santo Antonio, also known as Igreja Matriz de Santo Antonio, is a stunning church in Tiradentes. Named after the town's patron saint, it was designed by Aleijadinho and boasts a magnificent interior adorned with gold and Old Testament symbolism. The church features a remarkable polychrome organ from Portugal and seven golden phoenixes hanging from braided chains. Outside, there is a famous sundial dating back to 1785.
Gorgeous church, covered with gilded gold. Every detail is a joy to examine. Make sure to note the imported Portuguese organ.
Josiah W — Google review
Standing before a centuries-old church is always an impressive experience, evoking thoughts of the countless people who have been there before us. The building itself, with its towering structure and rich history, carries with it both light and shadow. While it has been a symbol of suppression at various points in history, it has also been a place of belonging and hope for those seeking solace and a better afterlife. This blend of dark history and spiritual refuge speaks to the deep and complex role the church has played in people's lives over the centuries.
Ulf D — Google review
Very beautiful, old colonial church. The R$10 seems steep for what it is though and the amount of tourists moving through. Occasionally closed for weddings etc. but this isn't well advertised.
Trovão G — Google review
Ornately beautiful and historic: seven altars and one of the most churches with the largest amount of gold in Latin America.

Chapel Senhor Bom Jésus da Pobreza, also known as Bom Jesus Agonizante, is a small Catholic temple located in the city of Tiradentes, Brazil. Built in the Baroque-Rococo style at the end of the 18th century, it holds historical significance as a national heritage site listed by IPHAN. The chapel's simple floor plan and sparsely decorated altars add to its charm.
Very charming.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful!! The Chapel of Bom Jesus da Pobreza, or Bom Jesus Agonizante, is located in Largo das Forras. It is located between bars and restaurants and gives the square a certain colonial feel. The history of the church is quite uncertain, due to the lack of documents about its construction. It is believed that it dates back to the second half of the 18th century and that it was built in payment of a promise made by the then Captain-Major Gonçalo Joaquim de Barros. The church has a simple façade in the Baroque-Rococo style, and the interior is marked by the image of an agonizing Jesus Christ amidst a wooden altar with colorful floral paintings. 010

(Translated by Google) I visited the Bom Jesus da Pobreza Chapel on a Friday morning. It's a beautiful chapel with a simple and charming interior. For those who want to contribute to its preservation, there's a QR code available on site. The chapel was built in the 18th century and is Baroque in style. It's located near Largo das Forras in Tiradentes. Originally, it was intended for the poorest believers, which explains the name "da Pobreza" (Chapel of Poverty). Today, besides being a place of prayer, it's also an important part of the city's historical heritage. It's worth a visit! Vale a visita!

(Translated by Google) Simple but very pretty church, located in Praça das Forras The documentation about this chapel is very scarce, which makes it impossible to piece together the history of the monument. It is known that it was built, certainly in payment of a promise, by Captain-major Gonçalo Joaquim de Barros, who, in 1801, sent a petition to the Portuguese Crown to provide for the construction of the temple, although its construction is much older. It is assumed that the chapel was built in 1771, according to the date that until very recently was painted on the pediment.

I attended mass on a Friday and the mass time was 7:20; a great celebration by the local priest, simple and very beautiful and meaningful. If you are in Tiradentes, take 5 minutes and visit this chapel, which is very well located; right in the central square and close to the cathedral. I recommend it. This railway is the oldest operating one in Brazil and has been well-preserved, maintaining its imperial-style carriages.

Fountains
Fountain of St. Joseph, also known as Chafariz de Sao Jose, is a historic site built in 1749 that served as a crucial stop for travelers to replenish their canteens and water their animals. Despite its slightly worn appearance, the fountain exudes an air of tranquility with its surrounding greenery, making it an ideal spot for picnics or seeking respite from the heat.
Excellent site for a peaceful stroll. The fountain is relatively well preserved, resembling the facade of baroque churches. It was built in the 18th century, and was used to supply water to the residents of Tiradentes. Apparently, the three water spouts had different purposes (human consumption, another one for animals and the third one for washing clothes). At the back you can still see the aqueduct that supplies the water which comes from the Bosque da Mãe D'Agua (access seems closed now).
Jorge R — Google review
Very cool historic fountain. It was very unusual because it is in someone's front yard. The home located behind the fountain is privately owned. it was a little disappointing to see only two of the three heads of the fountain working at the time we visited. Hopefully the caretaker has plans to restore this historic Monument.

I'm not a big fan of cars. However this place is fantastic. You can see a large variety of old cars. There are more than 80 different cars in this museum. It's trip to the past. It's really worth to visit.

Nestled in the charming village of Bichinho, just a short drive from Tiradentes, the Museum of the Liturgy is a captivating destination that should definitely be on your travel list. This delightful spot showcases stunning architecture and offers visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in religious art and history. While exploring its exterior can be rewarding, many find that engaging with knowledgeable staff enhances the experience.
Fantastic museum! Just 5 rooms but I spent about 1.5 hrs enjoying the diverse collection. On the upper floor there's a digital panel with descriptions of each object in both Portuguese and English. There are also printed guides for each room in English, French and Spanish.

The museum is basically a collection of Catholic religious objects from area churches. The museum will be quite interesting to you and well worth visiting if you haven’t seen many such objects before or if such objects are of significant interest to you. If neither of these two scenarios is the case, in my opinion you won’t miss anything if you spend your time elsewhere.

(Translated by Google) I really enjoyed visiting the Liturgy Museum in Tiradentes. The space is well-kept and organized, and the collection includes several religious pieces from the 18th and 19th centuries, such as chalices, candlesticks, embroidered liturgical vestments, images of saints and objects used in mass. Everything is very well preserved and there are explanations throughout the visit that help you understand the historical and religious context of each item. The building where the museum is located is beautiful, and the interior lighting really enhances the pieces. The garden in the background is peaceful and pleasant, great for sitting for a while and taking in the scenery. Even for those who are not very religious, it is an interesting visit from a historical and cultural point of view. It is worth including it in your Tiradentes itinerary. O prédio onde funciona o museu é bonito, e a iluminação interna valoriza bastante as peças.

(Translated by Google) An incredible experience. Visiting the Liturgy Museum in Tiradentes was a profound cultural and spiritual immersion. Located in a historic mansion, the space exudes an atmosphere of seclusion and beauty, uniting art, faith, and memory. Among the pieces in the collection, sacred images, liturgical objects, and vestments stand out, revealing the richness of religious traditions throughout the centuries. The ambiance, carefully prepared with light and sound, invites contemplation and awakens a more sensitive appreciation for the spirituality present in Minas Gerais' Baroque culture. At the end of the visit, one is left with the feeling of having walked not just a museum, but also a journey of faith, history, and identity. It was well worth the visit; it's worth noting that we purchased combo tickets for R$20.00 and also visited the Santo Antônio Parish Church and the small church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos. (Translated by Google) The Church of São João Evangelista is a true religious and architectural treasure, located in the historic heart of Tiradentes/MG, and is among the simplest churches in Tiradentes and may even go unnoticed by the most inattentive eyes. Built in the mid-18th century, it dates back to colonial times, with its centuries-old walls, ornate altars and beautiful works of sacred art. The Chapel of São João Evangelista has a façade without towers, with the bell placed in one of the windows, and the interior follows the exterior simplicity. São João Evangelista, the patron saint of our parish, is celebrated and revered here with great devotion and his image, present on the main altar, is a symbol of faith and inspiration for all the faithful who frequent this sacred place. In addition to being a place of worship, the Church of São João Evangelista plays a vital role in the life of the community of Tiradentes, as it is there that the community gathers to celebrate sacraments, participate in liturgies and strengthen the bonds of fraternity and solidarity that unite us as brothers in faith. The church is also notable for being the burial place of the 18th century composer Manoel Dias de Oliveira. The Ateliê Valin Branco art gallery showcases the incredible talent of an artist who utilizes excellent materials and explores themes reminiscent of Moebius, creating a seamless connection to the universe. The works on display are nothing short of fantastic, displaying immense creativity. The craftsmanship involved in their creation is exquisite, making this artistic collection deserving of recognition and exposure to all those fortunate enough to experience it.
(Translated by Google) Atelier Route – Moebius Curve – On the way from Tiradentes Train Station, after the Maria Fumaça train ride, to the historic center of Tiradentes, we find the atelier of Valin Branco, a renowned sculptor. In this exhibition entitled Moebius Curve and with the slogan “sculptures in precious woods” we can see the carving technique, the vision of using the grains of different woods, the precision of the finish and the care of the shapes, combined with a fundamental concept: the Moebius curve. Here, unlike any other atelier, we are encouraged to touch the pieces, giving literal meaning to the work, which takes on new forms and sharpens the senses. Wonderful work. Oh! The service was excellent, unfortunately I don't remember the name of the attendant. The brochure contains a brief description of the exhibition: “The Moebius curve is a famous non-orientable surface, that is, it is not possible to define a continuous and never-zero normal vector field on it. Another way of seeing this is that there is a ‘disoriented’ closed curve, that is, a closed curve in such a way that if we start with a vector normal to the surface, and go around the curve placing a vector normal to the surface at each point in such a way that it varies continuously with the curve parameter, when we complete a lap the normal vector at the end is the opposite of the initial one. If an ant walks along this curve it will return to the starting point ‘upside down’.”

The skillful puppetry performance at Casa de Boneco - Teatro de Marionetes is truly impressive, with both father and son showcasing their talent. The spectacle itself is not only grand in scale but also charming in its simplicity. It offers a nostalgic journey back to childhood for adults and introduces children to an art that is rarely seen these days. The creators deserve congratulations for their outstanding work.
Really worth visiting. Type of attraction one must see and support. They’ve been around for 30 years now and are celebrating it with a special presentation. Kids will have a blast! Adults will warm their hearts. I highly recommend it.

The puppeteer is a genius. Not just in his control of motion, but in his acting - he brings to life complex, colourful characters so well that, at times, you forget you’re not watching animation on screen. The artistic design of the puppets themselves is incredible too. It’s mostly without words, and so no worries if your Portuguese isn’t great!

(Translated by Google) It's so good to honor the artists who make our day so much lighter and more fun. Everything is made by Bernardo, including the puppets, accompanied by his son André, and suddenly a very kind old man introduces himself as the puppets' great-grandfather and we think it's great (Bernardo's father). We see care and love from beginning to end. Thank you for providing us with the theater, my children loved it. My daughter (4 years old) said that it was her favorite thing about the trip.

Kids love it, but I recommend it to adults too; your inner child will thank you 😊. It's fun, lighthearted, innocent (or not so much 🤭). Enchanting! Moitará Arte Indígena, led by owner Evandro and his attentive team, offers a captivating collection of indigenous art that showcases their customs and experiences. The gallery features exquisite handicrafts made by the indigenous people, displaying their remarkable talent. While the pieces are beautifully curated and tasteful, they may not be affordable for everyone due to their higher price range. Nonetheless, Moitará proves to be an ideal destination for those seeking to acquire unique and stunning indigenous artworks.
Unique pieces that are clearly well crafted. Diverse art- from jewelry, to wood carvings, to paintings and weaponry. Helped us understand some of the customs limitations in taking pieces out of the country.

This store is the main one, but if you go to São João Del Rei, there is also a store there, but smaller and with fewer options. Don't expect to find anything cheap. Here you pay for the work of art, so there are few things for less than R$200, while others can cost more than R$3,500. Even so, be sure to enjoy what the store has to offer, even if you don't take anything. It will be worth it! (Original) A vontade é de levar tudo! Most of the works are sacred and recently there are paintings of flowers inspired by and with a thank you to Monet (Mercy Monet, preceding the signature.
