I really appreciate how they've converted an old building into a watch tower with a gallery inside. There are a few other shops on-site as well. The overall vibe is great, and the weather this time of year is excellent. I'm happy I came!

Unfortunately it was being refurbished when we visited so most areas were closed to the public, but I've been before and recommend walking around the ruin and going all the way to the top for an amazing 360 panoramic view. Very good attraction. It gets really busy so be prepared to be pushing and shoving. Everybody is trying to get the best spot to record the videos. They do have nice foods and souvenir shop on top of the mountain. There is always entertainment going on like live music.

Sugarloaf in Rio offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, beaches, and mountains, absolutely worth the visit. The cable car ride is smooth and scenic. It can get very crowded, especially during peak hours, so try to go early or on a weekday. There are a few shops and places to grab a snack at the top, but prices are a bit high. Still, the overall experience is unforgettable and a must-do while in Rio!

We came here early to avoid the long line. A glass cable car carried us to the top of iconic Sugar Loaf Mountain, actually expect to ride second cable car to real mountain top, which is a symbol of the city, in ideal conditions, I supposed to see the stunning panorama of the beaches, Corcovado Mountain, downtown Rio, and Guanabara Bay, etc. actually what you can see is by chance, the mist of cloud always come across to make you wonder, and it's hard to take a good picture of the stunning panoramic view of bay. There are squirrel-like primates called marmosets which can be spotted near the cable car stations and trails on the mountain , a species native to eastern Brazil. The tourists are discouraged to feed them.

A world class experience. Preferable to book the cable car tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. There are queues to board and alight from the cable cars. The 2 levels of the cable car stations provide varied views of the city of Rio from the top. The vistas are breathtaking. It can get a little cold at the top, so dress accordingly. The Christ Redeemer statue can be seen from the top. There a few expensive stores and good cafés at the top. Toilet and drinking water facilities are good. Best time to visit is around the sunset time to get the night views of the city.

The beach is beautiful. It was a bit wavy given I visited in the end of September and the water was a bit cold but it was really enjoyable and refreshing on hot days. There are many retailers that occasionally can try hard to sell whatever they have. It should also be known that this is not the safest place to be. Sept.25: We went to the famous Copacabana Beach. We taught it would be crowded as it was weekend, however this wasn't the case. There were a lot of local vendors selling all kinds of stuff & many different food, icecreams & drinks. Some brought a complete umbrella with bikinis & thongs as well as really nice looking grilled big scampis (we didn't try as we didn't know how long they were exposed to sun, etc.) & many more. As we need to get the Copacabana beach vipe, we bought a 700ML freshly pressed lime caipirinha. Delicious, but with the sun & almost on an empty stomach; I got hit very fast. In the far we saw Christ the Redeemer (big, famous Jezus statue of 30 m height on a hill), we hope to visit one of these days.

One of the famous beaches in the world was worth visiting. A fairly clean that has many things to offer - from food stalls to watching people play volleyball, soccer and other games, enjoying a nice drink, snacks and food. A good place to get your morning or afternoon walk/run as well. A safe place compared to some parts of Rio. From good to excellent hotels across the beach.

Loved this beach, it is great for long walks, it’s clean enough, it’s possible to see a beautiful sunset there. Really liked the fact that it was possible to pay by card for sunbeds, umbrellas and drinks. It’s often very busy there and I loved that vibe.

It could really be pack after 10am. So, if you’d like a nice photo, do go early! We had to go back a 2nd time to get nice photo taken without people everywhere!

The stairs themselves are stunning but the sheer number of people trying to pose on them makes it overwhelming and takes away from the art. Go early or in the rain for the best chance at a decent view. The street leading up to the steps is full of souvenir stalls that are actually pretty well priced compared to the same stuff at Christ the Redeemer or Ipanema.

I came here twice, solely because it was so ridiculously busy the first time I thought it deserved a second go. The first was on a Saturday around 12. It was so insanely busy you could barely move let alone get any sort of pictures or enjoyment. The second was on a Monday around 10:30 it was still very busy but far less people. You could walk without getting in the way of to many people's photos and find a spot to take your own. Well the stairs are very beautiful, and it is completely free. I wouldn't say it is an absolute must see. If it's a stop on your tour, or nearby where you're staying I think go for it. But I wouldn't go out of my way to see it.

Such an amazing vibe with beautiful artwork on the steps. It can be a bit crowded, but it is so worth the trip. Grab a caprihana and stroll on up the steps. Great little shops at the bottom to check out too.

Easy to miss if you're going from up top. The stair view can be enjoyed from tje bottom only. They're located on a 5-10 minute walk from the cathedral and are definitely worth a visit.

Sept.25: would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn't so overcrowded. We unfortunately visited on Sunday afternoon, lots of tourists which all took their time to get pictures... It was even hard only to enter the stairs just to go up.

This place is an iconic one. I went there late in the afternoon and was packed! Still, flocks of people would come and go leaving good time to take pictures. However, the best moment to be there is very very early in the morning like 6.30am, sun rises around 6-6.18am so it'll be well lit and everything, and most importantly, empty! You don't need to buy a ticket to enter this place since it's open for everyone. Just be careful of your belongings as always, pay attention to your surroundings and you'd be just fine! If you have enough time it's really amazing to really pay attention to the different ceramic tiles, also, be careful on where you step, after all it's ceramic so it can be slippery or tricky at times.

Take a relaxing walk through the green park with a pond. Have a picnic. Play chess at a table. Sit at a bench and watch the birds. Check out the small “petting farm” of ducks and geese. Take your kids to the huge park. Grab some food at one of the kiosks. There are plenty of things to do here to enjoy your day.

It's a cozy area with beautiful trees, some animals, a pleasant lake and an area with some rides and a playground for the kids. In the weekends there is a fair from the morning up to be beginning of the afternoon. Sometimes there are events in the park like a food truck festival.

Lovely park for the kids to spend some time in. It is a relaxing area inside the city and the children love to run around and be free. The water fountain is impressive and is well worth a visit. The kids play area is lively and clean. There are a lot of kiosks to buy some snacks and drinks from. The park is free to enter and there are discrete security personnel around

Nice and cozy city park. In the heart of Icaraí county. It s a must visit if you have kids or simply go there to walk your pet or read a book in peace.

It's a very beautiful park, with lots of trees. there is space for snacks, picnics. But many homeless people go there too. Worth knowing.

Beautiful secluded beach but very full of people on hot summer days. Absolutely gorgeous sunsets over Rio. There are some little barzinhos you can get caipirinhas at and you can rent chairs and umbrella if you want also. There were huge waves the day we went which was fun but you couldn’t relax in the water and had to be very careful of people on boogie boards and surf boards all fighting to be in the same small area of water. I would definitely go back, but if you’re looking for a peaceful quiet day this might not be the beach for you on a hot summer day. Update: I went back on a calm day and it was absolutely amazing and perfect. Love it and have now gone back many more times.

A must for any architecture lover. Niteroi has the biggest collection of Niemeyer works in Brazil after Brasilia. Students there offer free guided tour in English and they're amazing Very attentive and knowledgeable. Our guide was Fransceils. She shared so much of the Brazilian culture with us too!

Very interesting and innovative architecture

This is one of the best architecture collections you can visit for free in the world. CAMINHO NIEMEYER is a must, if you're visiting Rio. To get here, i strongly suggest crossing the bay with Barcas (the ferry), walk 5 minutes and enjoy. After, you should go to MAC Niterói, and then to Parque da Cidade, which is the best option for the sunset time.

Great place to take the kids. A lot of space to play. Dogs, Bikes, skateboards and rollerblades are welcome. It does not have a place to buy beverages and food, so bring your own stuff.

Do you want to experience Rio´s best view? Then Parque da Cidade in Niteroi is the place for you. Fortunately it is not (yet) a very touristic spot, but trust me when I tell you that you won´t regret a visit to this stunning park. The geography (hills, mountains, ocean) is what makes Rio great, and from Parque da Cidade you will see them all, like a perfect postcard!

Very pleasant and nice trip, even at rush hours (though somebody will disagree), with reasonable ferries (for us and our bikes too). The fee is not much fair, but that's a trade between an hour doing this by bus or a fifteen minutes by ferry.

I use these ferryboats every day going to my English School, but one thing I don't like about them is that the prices have increased at a level that is ridiculous! The service is great, but the prices are absurd.

One of the few places where you can top up your RioCard or Bilhete Unico with your debit card, instead of cash.

Cultural centre in a former bank building which still keeps some of its old interiors. Top notch modern and contemporary art exhibitions, with superb museography, design and insight. They also have a very good library and gift shop and a nice restaurant.

Great museum. Entrance is free of charge but a cost free ticket is still required. 1 hour time needed to view the second and fourth floors.

Congrats to Flávio Cerqueira for his outstanding kind of artwork. Took time to think, to admire, to appreciate the power of the art.

Almost missed this excellent site in Rio. Impressive building and central hall but the very best bit is the Museum to Money on the 4th floor. Surprisingly, so interesting and absorbing! The only downside is the annotations for the Money Museum are only in Portuguese so you will have to use a translation app if you do not speak the language. Lifts to get there are vintage and operated by Centro employees. Highly recommended. Also a branch of Colombo for a well earned coffee or snack afterwards.

Good exhibit about money, where it come from and Brazils history of it all. Great items on display and heaps to look at. Staff were friendly and the elevator is old school, has the attendant inside who slides the handle to control it.

I had a very nice experience at the mosteiro de sal bento! The had a service while me and my father visited, authentic voices and great acoustics! The shop was crowded which was fun, a lot of people and happy faces. The garden was well kept and the walk up to the mosteiro was also very pleasant. Great and authentic place to visit if you want some rio history.

It’s hard to believe there could have so much gold in a church. It’s an important expression of the baroque art in a church in the historic centre of Rio de Janeiro. Worths a visit.

Walking along R. Dom Gerardo road, there is a sign above a door for public access but ignore that and go to the vehicle entry as the door apparently doesn't work. The Monastery is unbelievable, amazing carved wood, all in gold leaf. Paintings, statues etc. It's tucked away as well, we almost missed it. Definitely worth a visit and it's free.

Sao Bento Monastery is a Benedictine Abbey in Rio de Janeiro. This is a an excellent example of Portuguese colonial architecture. It was established in 1590. The interior of the church is very ornate and is covered in gold leaf gilding. We visited the Abbey on a Saturday. It was not very crowded. There are very beautiful sculptures and the site is definitely worth visiting.

Beautiful monestary. A 15 mts walk from Uruguaiana station. Ubers do pick up from the church.

I loved the whole environment around this monastery. A peaceful and hidden enclave in the middle of a busy area, it should be discovered if you are in Rio for some days. There is a viewpoint at the back from where the harbor and the whole rooftop of the Museum of Tomorrow can be observed.

Sadly, this museum remains barely open, after sustaining some major water damage some years back, though locals report the work to repair it is still ongoing. There's only one main exhibit of classical style sculpture, but nothing else for public viewing yet. Check locally for any updates before making a special trip, or you can check in if you are visiting the Municipal Theatre right across the street

Interesting collection of imperial and contemporary art. Cost R8 to get in. Well worth it. Contains the largest painting ever commissioned in Brazil. Make sure you ask for a headset guide. It wasn’t offered to me, so I didn’t even know it was an option until too late.

Seemingly perennially under maintenance, the museum suggests it is "open". However there is only one room of exhibits available with only some second-rate casts of greek and Roman sculpture. So many employees on site, yet only one room available. Not really worth showing up for it. Sadly, there is evidence of water ingress and poor maintenance throughout the public areas. Has much promisem hopefully it will meet its potential in future.

Amazing fine arts' museum. Many galleries showcasing national and international paintings. There is a sculpture gallery and temporary exhibitions as well. What I like the most is the the Battle of Avaí painting which was painted in small parts to make an amazing 600cm x 1100cm mega painting. If you're in Rio, I'm a local guide here. Nice museum with many different rooms where can you can find different modern art and classic Brazilian art from 19th and early 20th. If you are in the area, I strongly recommend to pay a visit !

A very neat building in a great part of Rio to explore. The collection itself was not very big or diverse, but they have several worthwhile pieces. Right now they have hashtags beneath a lot of the paintings, which to me was a bit tacky but also pretty funny (things like #selfie under self portraits). There is a small admission fee to enter.

This place is enormous, and well worth checking out. It's housed in a beautiful old building with an interior courtyard, there are multiple levels. You will need at least two hours to thoroughly explore the entire place because it's huge. The only thing that I would have liked is a better focus on the indigenous history of Brazil.

Free museum! Very educational because there were people on field trips. Most of the exhibits has english translation for easy understanding.

A very informative and beautiful nationalistic collection. I learned a great deal about the history of Brazil here, and took a few great keepsake photos. I especially liked the carriage collection and the painting of the whales in the bay.

Great exhibits that include a lot of information in Portuguese and English. 10 R entrance Feb 2019, free on Sunday and possibly on Tuesday, closed on Monday. This represents great value as an activity in the city.

While wandering through the city, we stumbled upon the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro. This striking building immediately caught our attention with its unique architectural style. Designed by renowned Brazilian architect Affonso Eduardo Reidy in the 1950s, the museum is a masterpiece of modernist architecture, featuring open spaces and large glass panels that blend the structure with its surroundings. The entrance was free, and inside we found rotating exhibitions of contemporary art. Although I was expecting a permanent collection of modern masterpieces, the temporary exhibits were still an interesting and thought-provoking experience. Overall, MAM Rio is a great stop for art lovers and those curious about Brazil’s modernist architectural heritage. Even if you're not an art enthusiast, the building itself and its location in Flamengo Park make it worth a visit.

The exhibition is limited but fascinating. It’s architecture is beautiful. It seems that its gardens are unique. Though, since they were preparing a COP30 event, they didn’t give access to the garden. Isn’t this contradictory? Where is the respect to the citizens that had a public space restricted?

Beautiful building. No collection but there was a very interesting exhibition about the great garden designer and landscape architect Burle Marx. The setting is beautiful in the Flamengo Park. Green surroundings. Tram stop nearby (Antonio Carlos) and not far from Lapa on foot.

Very unpleasant experience. From the moment we entered the 2nd floor, we were closely followed by a museum guard, which made us feel uncomfortable. One guard in particular—a young woman with long curly hair—was especially aggressive in both her expression and behavior toward us and our child. They followed us so closely that it felt intimidating. When we stepped onto a standard balcony area overlooking the 1st floor, the same guard approached us and abruptly told us we were not allowed there, speaking in a very rude manner. At that point, we decided to leave immediately. There were no English skills among the staff, and when we couldn’t speak Portuguese, the guard rolled her eyes at us as if insulted. As we left, there was no polite goodbye or thank you for our visit—only another guard following us. The whole atmosphere felt tense and uncomfortable. We had really been looking forward to this visit, but sadly we left upset and disappointed.

I thought it was quite a cool bit of architecture but my partner said it looked like the 'back of a stadium'. Maybe he is right :) Worth taking a look. Free to see the outside. The gardens must have been lovely once, but now they are poorly maintained, with plastic floating in the ponds, broken pavements and groups of people loitering in a vaguely worrying way. I wouldn't want to come here at night.

Very beautiful place, a must see! It was my first time in Rio and I visited a couple of the museums however, by far this is my favorite if you're into art painting sculptures whatever it is definitely check the spot out. They had dancing outside of the museum. It was very beautiful and definitely check out the wall butts lol.

I’ve been to the beach at the Serra da Tiririca in a regular Friday afternoon and it seemed very calm and quiet. It was too cold for a swim, but the locals seemed to like it.

30 mins to climb up. First part is very steep. In rangers station, there is a water fountain. Locals climb up with flip flops!

I couldn't visit the inside of the theater. The architecture (from the outside) is interesting, and the theater is part of a larger complex including also the Oscar Niemeyer foundation. Both have been designed by the famous Brasilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, which makes Niteroi the second City in the world where one can see the largest number of Niemeyer's building (Brasilia being, of course, the first one)

Really nice compound of Niemeyer designs that could be better maintained. The people at the information center are very helpful. The area is a little sketchy because of the bus station.

Great place to visit. They have a guided tour that explores the building and leaves each hour for free. They walk you around the constructions, explain the history, and take lots of pictures. Definitely recommended.

Another must see attraction in Rio besides the Christ the Redeemer. Very professionally managed and the cable car ride was safe and comes with breathtaking views ( if it's not cloudy or rainy) although the ride is pretty short compared to what I thought. Views from the mountain are spectacular to say the least. There are cafes, ships and restaurants to enhance your visit. Seeing one of the marmoset monkeys was a huge plus.

Sept.25: a must see when visiting Rio de Janeiro. Arrival @Bondinho ticket booth, we bought tickets on the spot with discounts! We were lucky, Lisa got discount as a student (she had her student card with her as proof) & both my partner & I got seniority discount (without proof; we aren't even 60 years!). Instead of BRL197 × 3, we now got in for total BRL291 = €46.60 which saved us almost €50. The ticket combined two cable car rides, one to Morro da Urca (height @220 m) & the other to Pão da Açúcar (height @396 m) as well as visit Project Maravilha of Carlos Vergara. @1st stop we had lovely views of the different surrounding bays & beaches, as well as Christ the Redeemer in the far. There were cuddly little monkey's hanging around & also the oldest cable car vehicle (in yellow). There was a lot of military activity @this platform. Last stop was @Pão da Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain). There are benches in the shade underneath the trees. Afterwards we went to the project Maravilha which was in a shady bush with lush vegetation & blooming trees & flowers. Along there were several benches as well as tables with stools. So we played some card games & enjoyed the panoramic views!

During our six-hour layover in Rio de Janeiro, we decided to make the most of our time by visiting Sugarloaf Mountain. The taxi ride from the airport took about 45 minutes, with some heavy traffic along the way, but it was absolutely worth it. We had purchased advance fast-pass tickets, which turned out to be a great decision — they allowed us to skip the long entrance line and save valuable time. The city itself felt vibrant and beautiful, and Sugarloaf rises majestically near Copacabana Beach, an iconic sight even from afar. The cable car ride was a highlight in itself — knowing it’s one of the first cable cars in the world made the experience even more special. The first stop takes you to a lower hill, surrounded by lush greenery and curious little monkeys that were delightful to watch. The facilities there were spotless and well maintained. We then boarded the second cable car up to Sugarloaf’s summit. The rides are frequent — about every five minutes — so there’s very little waiting. On the way up, we even spotted rock climbers scaling the face of the mountain, taking short breaks along the way. The views from the top were stunning — sweeping vistas of Rio, the beaches, and the ocean. It was a short visit, but truly memorable. I highly recommend this experience to anyone passing through Rio, even if you only have a few hours to spare.

On a good day you can see the Christ the Redeemer statue majestically standing towards the Sugar loaf mountains. On the first hill after the first leg you have a platform where they have set a "night" club with electronic music. Also some shops and restaurants available. On the second platform after the second leg you also have some shops, restaurants and of course viewing pltforms.

Sugar Loaf is a natural marvel, the view is the best! There is 2 rocks, Urca y Sugar Loaf. First floor is elegant and cafes and shops (not very crowded but chic). Upstairs is obviously peak of interest. The jewelry stolls have cute stuff, just quiet expensive, same stuff in the market in Copacabana is lot cheaper. In front of the square there is Red Beach. The trees in the square are beautiful..

This was a nice ride up to two hills overlooking Rio; Morro da Urca is the first stop, the Sugarloaf. The ride seems too short because of the views being so good along the way. Lots of good vantage points at each stop to take photos of Christ the Redeemer, the beach, the city and the surrounding areas.

Had an amazing afternoon wandering these beautiful gardens. They have lots of buildings scattered around holding different plants species/types. The signage around the garden was helpful and clear and the pamphlet they give at the beginning is extremely helpful. I also had a wonderful meal at the cafe/restaurant in the garden. Keep in mind that this garden is mainly trees not flowers if that is of importance to you. I spent about 4 hours here but you could easily do it in 2 or extend it much much longer.

We road our bikes here from the Sheraton. You do not need to buy tickets in advance on a weekday. Gorgeous views, nice place to drink a coffee or have lunch. I also love monkeys, so seeing one was fun.

Arguably the most underrated place to visit in Rio. We paid BRL80 per person to enter and spent 3 hours. You can fins cute monkeys running about and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous.

First place that I find the employees that are like Americans where they seem to hate their job and just sap your energy by being close to them. But that was just a few of them. Other than that, it was a very wonderful experience. It’s beautifully manicured and laid out expansive and beautiful monkeys and butterflies, Bromeliads and all sorts of cool stuff. Good bars and restaurants along the seafront really make this area a great one for a night out (Friday and Sunday appear to be the big weekend nights). I really wouldn’t rate the actual beach this highly. It’s dirty, the plastic pollution is high on the beach as is the water pollution. It’s such a shame to see what would be an amazing beach ruined by plastic and pollution. I really hope the city try and clean this up.
