The Monument to Alexander III, established in 1908, stands as a tribute to the emperor's pivotal role in the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. This impressive statue is flanked by depictions of significant historical figures such as Yermak, who was instrumental in Russia's conquest of Siberia, and governors-general Nikolai Muravyov-Amursky and Mikhail Speransky.
It is center of the city. It is a very beautiful place beside Angara river.

Interesting, relaxing place. Enjoyed the view of the beautiful Anggara River. Loving the city of Irkutsk…

The status is easily observed. It stands at the road intersection beside the river. Also somehow there is the musician sings the nice songs. Good for relaxing.
Gunruthai C — Google review
It's a nice square but there's really nothing special about this place. some people walking by and kids playing around. There's a big fountain on the river but it is turned off.

This is again in Irkutsk. From here one gets a beautiful view of the river. And must visit before sunset.

History Museums
The House Museum of Prince Sergey Volkonsky in Irkutsk offers a glimpse into the life of the exiled Decembrist prince and his wife, Maria. Visitors can explore the family dining room, original staircases, drawing room, and an exhibition room with portraits of Maria and other Decembrist wives. The museum also hosts musical performances that recreate the social life experienced by the exiled Decembrists and their wives.
Good place to see daily clothes and the way of life of the past in Russia.
Bright Y — Google review
Siberian history and champagne Went there for a tour for Siberian history on exiles and their wives. Wasn't really too interested. When the performers were singing opera, I wasn't too interested too, then they popped the champagne and we found that many people on our tour were quite old and didn't want to drink it. So the few younger people on the tour all had a few refreshing glasses! Yippee.

Gökhan K — Google review
This museum ist just about fashion of the Dekabrists time and about the noble Volkonskiy family. Absolutly no information about the Dekabrist movement, their ideas and goals, no political information at all. So if you want to know about the banned nobles in Sibiria and the privileged life and the good things they did for the region, it might be a good museum. But a comparison to the banned poorer people and any political information are missing. There is also hardly anything in English, as in most Russian museums. But even in Russian, the explanations are very old fashioned, as far as I could understand them. This is history as it was thought in the 1st half of last century.
Wladyslaw A — Google review

Kazanskaya Tserkov', or the Church of Our Lady of Kazan, is a stunning gem located in Irkutsk that captures the essence of Byzantine architecture. With its striking red exterior and iconic blue onion domes, this church stands out beautifully against the backdrop of its less luxurious surroundings. Inside, visitors are treated to breathtaking frescoes and revered icons that reflect the rich traditions of Russian Orthodoxy.
Beautiful Church! Amazing lighting in the hall! Such a holy feeling 😊
Truc N — Google review
The Church of Our Lady of Kazan is very impressive as a Byzantine-style cathedral which has a vibrant red exterior walls and blue onion domes. That is matched by an internal with eqully impressive frescoes and icons. Apparently it is dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God which is one of the most revered icons in Russian Orthodoxy. It is very well worth seeing.

Impressive. Very beautiful church many people come to pray here. The location is out of the center a bit. I took taxi there about 4$. Don’t miss it if you come to Irkutsk.

Znamensky Monastery, located 1.9 kilometers northeast of Skver Kirova, was constructed in 1762 and features the Kolchak monument at its entrance. The monastery is renowned for its stunning architecture and houses remarkable iconostases as well as a gold sarcophagus containing the remains of St. Inokent, a Siberian missionary.

Nicely decorated Orthodox Church in a tranquil compound, away from traffic noice. Every ceiling and wall painted or mounted with carving. An active place of worship with an valuable relic in a glass case. Directions: take trolley bus number 3 from front of Irkutsk Art Museum on Lenin Street. Alight after the traffic circle, cross the street, and walk back towards the city center. After about 50 meters, look for a steel fence between a block of apartments and a modern glass building. Just after the fence, turn right and walk towards the river. You can cut through the apartments to get to the Nunnery.

Another beautiful cathedral. Youalso might have a look at the monument of the Russian Columbus who made a trade way between Rusland and Alaska.

(Translated by Google) An unambiguous historical attraction of a regional scale: in addition to the charming Church of the Sign, the curious will find in the monastery the burial places of famous people: the navigator Shelikhov, the Russian writer Valentin Rasputin and the Decembrists who died in Siberian exile. In the park in front of the monastery there is a monument to Admiral Kolchak. Minus: do not try to get here on foot from the Angara embankment. Due to the lack of crossings, you will have to risk your life and cross a very busy highway! Be careful and use the bus or taxi!

(Translated by Google) It is located somewhat far from the center of Irkutsk. Although it is not flashy, it is a quiet and simple monastery. Inside the monastery, there is the tomb of the Decembrists and a small tomb of Catherine, the wife of Trubetskoy, one of the leading figures in the Decembrist Rebellion. If the time is right, you might be lucky enough to hear the bells of the spire.

The History Museum of the city of Irkutsk them. AM Sibiryakova is a treasure trove for anyone eager to delve into the rich tapestry of Siberian history. Established in 1782, it proudly holds the title of the oldest museum in Siberia and serves as a gateway to understanding the region's past.
It's a good Museum, the staff is super friendly and patiently explains stuff. They really give you a good insight into the early life in Russia. They have a lot of things from that bygone era .The only issue that i found was everything is in russian and the staff doesn't really know English either. I can't explicitly blame then for it because having lived there not many people speak in English. But if you know a bit of russian and want to kill sometime learning I'd recommend it

Tole C — Google review
(Translated by Google) The museum is for those who are not familiar with the history of the city or know it superficially. I wasn’t bored, since I was talking with the curator almost the entire time of the inspection, but... The materials and exhibits that were presented there were clearly not enough for me. In almost every room I would like to add something, correct something. I liked the models of temples, churches, the Ascension Monastery, the panoramas of the fort are excellent. Of the original exhibits, of which there are very few, I liked a lady’s dress from the early 20th century; I was surprised by the ID of the railway worker’s wife; a hundred-year-old ophthalmologist’s suitcase, as if it had just been brought from the ophthalmologist’s office😂; schoolgirl's lunchbox; ladies' cane for straightening skirts. The general impression, like last time, is that the museum is relatively young and the museum luminaries have given here everything that is worthless to them.
Google review
(Translated by Google) They try very hard, but it’s somehow uninteresting. The guides don’t really know anything, only their program. And the program is very meager; the entire chain of events of historical moments is not traced. Yes, there is an exhibition of ancient artifacts, yes, then the Buryats suddenly appeared (in clothes of the 19th-20th century), and then the prison, then Bering, then the 19th century. But it is not clear when there was a fire, when the Buryats began to live, where they came from here, who these ancient people were, when the Glazov coast developed, and in general how the city districts were formed, by whom and when the architectural monuments were built. It seems like there is a piece of this, a piece of that... But the overall picture doesn’t add up. Now, if I don’t know the history of the city at all, then from a visit to the city history museum (!), I probably won’t learn anything except the founding date (169th year - what, from what date, what is this number), that some people have been here not very famous, and it is unknown when and what events took place during their visits, I do not learn anything about the fire, about the researchers of Lake Baikal, the North, the builders of the Circum-Baikal Railway, or about their significance in the life of the city. Well, it’s not enough. Komon. What if I want to know more? The museum seems to give the answer: look, we have branches, but what to see in these branches? I don’t know if they would even hang a portrait of Ya. Pokhabov, even if it was an imaginary one. Eh.

Adorable and energetic seals; both that were performing seemed engaged and happy, which made me feel ok because I was worried about how the animals were treated. The seals antics made me excited and happy; the Russian kid beside me was disturbed by my enthusiasm. Everything is in Russia though, although it is relatively easy to guess what is going on. There is a schedule for the shows, so call in advance to find out the best time so you don't end up waiting for too long in the holding area, although you can watch a video of seals and look at cute pictures of the seals. I paid an extra 100 rubles to take pictures with two baby seals You hold some fish in your hand, which is a cue for them to get onto a clear platform so you are nearer to them. Very lovely to see them up close.

When I opened the door and saw a cute Baikal seal in front of me, I was so excited... At aquarium shows in Japan, you are far away from the animals, but this facility is small so you can see the seals right in front of your eyes. (Be careful as you may get wet! But it's not seawater, so getting wet doesn't really bother you.) This is a facility that you can enjoy even if you don't understand Russian. It's really cute so check it out! ! Inside there is a long pool, fenced with railings. The animals are not tortured, if the seal did not want to obey, the trainer did not force her. There is no unpleasant smell from the clogged water, although it seems greenish, but in fact the pool is very clean. There is also no smell from the fish, which are constantly fed to the animals for performing tricks. During the show, a strange selection of lights and music was playing. Sometimes during the show the lights were turned off and then immediately turned back on. Mothball songs mixed with new children's songs. A little strange. But overall the show is pretty nice. During the performance there was an auction for a picture painted by a seal.

Sobor Bogoyavlensky, also known as the Epiphany Cathedral, is a stunning architectural gem situated on the banks of the Angara River in Irkutsk. The original wooden structure dates back to 1693 but was unfortunately destroyed in a fire in 1716. Despite being repurposed during the Soviet era, this magnificent cathedral has retained its ornate interior adorned with breathtaking frescoes and intricate details.
Really beautiful external and internal. The Sobor Bogoyavlensky, also known as the Cathedral of the Epiphany is situated near the Angara River and is one of the oldest stone buildings in Siberia, dating back to the mid-18th century. It features a unique blend of Byzantine, Baroque, and Classical architectural styles with rich internation frescoes and icons, creating a visually captivating experience. Combine this with a walk along the Angara River.

An interesting museum in a great city. Look past the fact that this isn’t the richest museum and it isn’t the richest city and you’ll find a ship with a very interesting history presented in an interesting way. For the minimal fee you’ll see the engine room and a collection of black and white photos from the ship’s heyday, as well as the dark years before it was floated again and restored. Oh, and a very entertaining dubbed video replete with low budget re-enactments. In summer there’s a great coffee shop next door, and a waterski park. The Memorial Eternal Flame in Irkutsk is a significant landmark honoring the fallen soldiers of World War II. It was kindled on May 9, 1975, using a torch lit from the eternal flame in Moscow. The names of Irkutsk citizens who never returned are inscribed on the wall behind the flame. The area around the memorial is well-maintained and offers a peaceful setting for visitors to take a stroll.
Visited here on a stopover from Siberia to Moscow on a train. It was snowing and very cold but the young soldiers guarding the eternal flame were very professional. It was amazing to watch them during the changing of the guard.

The Church of Holy Trinity in Irkutsk is a stunning example of Siberian Baroque architecture, consecrated in 1778. Despite enduring floods and fires, it remains the only church in the city with ancient forged iron roofing. The single-storey three-altar church replaced a wooden structure and was completed after the collapse of a stone church arch in 1763. This 19th-century religious monument boasts beauty comparable to Italian architecture.

If you have been to Italy, you will be able to fully appreciate the beauty of the Irkutsk Temple. The inside of the Church is as huge and beautiful as the outside. But the main thing is that the Temple is the House of God, a place for the prayers of believers and the Sacraments. (Translated by Google) The temple was erected in 1778 and has not undergone significant reconstruction or “updates” since its construction. This is a rare case for an architectural monument of Irkutsk. The one-story, three-altar Trinity Church was built on the site of a wooden one. On July 19, 1763, the stone vault of the church collapsed during work. The main temple was completed in 1778 (the lighting ceremony took place on September 22). In the 1930s the church was closed. On September 28, 1949, in violation of the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, the Irkutsk Regional Executive Committee transferred the Trinity Church for the construction of a planetarium. Currently, according to the project G.G. Oranskaya and B.A. Shutov's temple was restored, after reconstruction it was transferred to the Irkutsk diocese. The Baroque style, which came to Russia at the end of the 17th century, immediately acquired a distinctly Russian peculiarity. A prominent place among the architectural monuments of the Siberian Baroque is occupied by the Holy Trinity Church. From the general range of buildings, the church is distinguished by its unusual volumetric-spatial structure. The composition of the building shows a connection with wooden tiered churches with a wide octagon, which became widespread in the Irkutsk region in the mid-18th century. The tiered bell tower, slightly higher in height than the temple, together with the chapels and the altar, is compositionally subordinate to the core. The artistic design of the platbands was influenced by ancient Russian architecture (paired, tied columns), Baroque (cartouche designs), as well as local traditions of constructing windows in multi-stage rectangular niches: clearly drawn cornices with a number of profiled crackers, blades with pressed panels of various geometric shapes.

(Translated by Google) I visited twice during the week. First alone, and then with guests from St. Petersburg. The tour was led by two different guides. Both times it was very interesting. The museum is compact and cozy. The exhibition is very interesting. I went to the tea museum reluctantly. But the guide's story was very interesting. I learned a lot of new things. I recommend a visit to those who are not indifferent to the history of Irkutsk and the Irkutsk region, who adore antiques and furniture. The Roman Catholic Church, also known as the Church of Lady of the Assumption, is a neo-Gothic-styled Polish-built church located near the Spasskaya Tserkov and the Bogoyavlensky Cathedral. Originally built in 1825 by Irkutsk's Catholic settlers, it was later enlarged in 1855 but unfortunately burned down during a city fire in July 1879.

Nestled in Irkutsk, the Prince Vladimir Temple stands as a remarkable Orthodox monastery that dates back to 1888. Established to commemorate the 900th anniversary of Russia's baptism by Prince Vladimir, this architectural gem was funded by merchant Litvintsev. While it may not boast extravagant features, its pristine white facade and serene interior create a tranquil atmosphere that invites reflection. Although somewhat off the beaten path for travelers, visiting this historical site is truly worthwhile.

Above all, the icons of the family of Russia's last emperor, Nicholas II, were impressive.
