Algar do Carvão is a geosite located in the central area of Terceira island, offering visitors the opportunity to descend 100 meters into an ancient lava tube formed by a volcano. The cave features lighted stairways for self-guided tours, providing a surreal experience as you enter the magma chamber of an extinct volcano and look up to see the sky through the cone high overhead.
The cave is huge and the place is really exceptional. The only bad thing is that everything has been built inside making it lose its natural charm.
Ana M — Google review
A very beautiful cave. The main draw for me was first area upon entering where you see the cave opening. It gets wet and cool in the cave, but a jacket wasn't needed when I visited in August. The site gets very busy right from opening and onwards. Total time spent was no more than 30 minutes.
Carlo F — Google review
This place is worth a visit. But perhaps take a raincoat or at least a hoodie. It’s pretty cold and wet down there. I took my guitar and played a few songs to hear the acoustics. It wasn’t as reverberant as I thought but it was a nice experience.
Kenji K — Google review
I couldn’t believe how big this place is. You can feel the amount of power the lava had to form this tube. It is gorgeous looking up to the greenery near the top with the light shining through! I’ve never seen anything like it!

If you like caves and exploring them, this is a must-see in Terceira! This used to be a volcano vent that is right smack in the centre of the island and houses a lot of current flora within the cave. The descent is clearly paved with stairs and goes 45m downwards… there are further stairs that are barred that go down a steeper incline into a clear pond of water. It seems that the pond was once accessible to tourists but no longer. The cave is only open 230-5pm and is 10 euros to enter pp. you can pay 15 euros and see a second smaller cave called gruto do naval that is nearby (need to drive to that site). This cave is honestly not that big and while there is lighting to minimize tripping and falling, it is difficult to take good photos once inside of it. It is a little chilly and damp inside the cave and i wore a windbreaker and long leggings… but I also see other people wearing t shirts and shorts…. This cave has been commercialized and for those looking for a more “adventurous” and explorative cave au natural, you will be disappointed.
Gloria L — Google review
We tried to go here on 6/27/25 and it’s closed. Can’t find where to report closure so leaving a review in the hopes of helping people avoid the trip!
Katie G — Google review
Beautiful to see at least once! Lots of steps! Tour doesn’t take long, maybe 15-30 minutes depending on how much time you want to spend viewing the inside of the cave.
Rosanna S — Google review
Incredible experience! Few tips: take good waking shoes suitable for the uneven stairs and wet pavement and take a hooded raincoat because it is a bit chilly and moist down there. It’s about 360 stairs one way down the volcano but definitely worth it! I have never send anything like this before and pictures don’t do justice, you just have to go see it! Best attraction on the island.

This Regional Natural Monument features an array of over 20 fumaroles, each releasing different volcanic gases and surrounded by diverse vegetation. Visitors can stroll along a wooden circuit that meanders through this unique field, offering an easy 1 km loop perfect for leisurely exploration and photography.
The place is one of the main attractions of the island, with a route accessible to the public and without the need for accompaniment. It is recommended to do it during the day. There is a parking lot available at the beginning of the route, facilitating access

Free to enter. Interesting spot - it was a bit in the clouds when we arrived but the venting was still visible and smell-able. Short circular route with stairs/pathway of irregular rises so might be challenging for older folk. The vents are at the beginning of the trail and the remainder of trail just highlights vegetation and ecosystem.
Sandra G — Google review
The 2nd stop of our volcano day tours. The sulfuric vents are an important part of the volcano experience and should not be missed because of the other 2 show stoppers! (Walking INSIDE a Lava tube and a volcano!) This is definitely a nice walk OUTSIDE through some wonderful local flora and fauna as you approach the sulfuric vents. The views are amazing... again! We observed some Holly bushes that have evolved through time on this island of no predators, and so the leaves have lost 4 of their 5 pointy tips! Amazing in itself to see something like this. It is quite beautiful here as you stroll the park! Sulfur or not...

6Terceira Island

Island
Terceira Island is a captivating destination within the Azores archipelago, boasting nature reserves and picturesque hiking trails. The island's historic capital, Angra do Heroismo, is a UNESCO World Heritage site with its charming 18th-century cityscape filled with vibrant cafes, bars, and boutiques. Terceira is also renowned for its lively festivals featuring Spanish-style bull runs between May and October.
Terceira is Portuguese for ‘third’ – as in ‘the third largest island’ and ‘the third island to be populated’ during the Portuguese Age of Discovery. The island’s home to the Azores’ oldest city: UNESCO protected Angra do Heroismo whose cobbled streets, historic architecture and friendly population help give the city a wonderfully relaxing, quiet charm.  Terceira is a mandatory pitstop for whoever goes to the Atlantic in search of surprising landscapes. What makes Terceira so special is the magnificent contrast between the natural beauty of this volcanic island and the admirable work of man in the historic centre of Angra do Heroísmo, its capital, founded in 1534, and the first place in the Azores to be made a city and to be classified World Heritage by UNESCO. Indeed, the title "Most Noble, Loyal and Ever Constant" attributed to the city emphasises its importance throughout the history of Portugal. The bay of Angra gained great importance not only as an internal trading post for regional products produced on the other islands, but also for its even greater prominence as an intercontinental staging post for ships sailing between Europe, the Americas and India. We must be made to the forts of São Sebastião and São João Baptista, unique examples of military architecture dating back more than 400 years, the 16th century Cathedral, considered the largest church in the archipelago, the Palace of the Captains-General, the Town Hall, the Church of São Gonçalo, the Bettencourt Palace, the Angra Museum, located in the former S. Francisco monastery, and the Duke of Terceira Garden, with many well-tended species, among other monuments. A tour guide took me to the caves of this beautiful island, but it is very touristic, so anyone with a car can get to it. Please note opening hours from 14.00 till 16.30 I think, this is an important fact. Because a lot of stairs to one who dont like to climb up and down stairs, but beutiful and certainly worht the effort. Anyone can see here how the volcanic arruption influenced the shape of caves and the SILICA resedue on the walls, it is great to visit. There are two private caves, you can reach via Jeep and they are very intresting as well. The green moss near the light was beautiful. So, Algar do Carvao is a must see! Absolutely stunning to walk into a volcano. It is a little bit of a walk down the stairs so take your time. Also wear a hat or a raincoat, there is a lot of dripping.
SUHAS D — Google review
What a lovely small island. We enjoyed the peaceful city of Angres with many sights to enjoy. The walk to the hilltop fort and around the volcanic crater was great, with lots of birds, common dolphins and a whale offshore. People were so gracious and friendly, most speaking English well. Don't forget to get ice cream on the waterfront, it's excellent.

An incredible and wonderful island!!!) Nature is simply incredible. The air is very clean. The ocean is clean and the water is clear. People here are friendly and can help in anything) Many cafes and restaurants, you can eat here in every part of the city. There are many hotels, hostels and private houses that are rented out to guests of the city. Tersheira has many interesting and incredible places where you can fully relax. Volcanoes..Bullfights..Various concert programs..A boat trip to the ocean for an excursion to see dolphins and whales..This is by no means a complete list of what you can do on the island. Even for children there is something to do here - many playgrounds. It is very nice here, and I will definitely come back here again😎👋👍👍👍

It’s a fabulous island. It’s got a nice long airfield ( just ask those poor f#ckers in the Air Transat glider how much they appreciated Lajes luxurious length!). It’s got calderas. Extinct volcanoes. Huge cliffs. Achingly beautiful vistas for days. Amazing food. Cows. So many cows. A nascent tourism industry. Cobble stones villages and towns. Twisty roads. A million shades of green. Deep cedar forests. Bulls. And running of bulls. Go. Just go.

Second visit here but this time with perfect weather conditions. It's a really amazing place and a must do if you are in Terceira and it has good weather. This place was a bit crowded in September, but after a few minutes people left and there was enough space to enjoy the view over the island. So much green, incredible 👍☺️

Amazing view. There is the designated viewpoint with platform on the one side but you should stop and look on the other toward the ocean as well.
Rod S — Google review
Beautiful landscape! We all loved it. It was really windy and a little bit cooler than on the coast side. At first we couldn't find it because there are 2 Serra do come on Google maps! The road from the south (we came from Ribeirinha) was really narrow, a typically agricultural road and we met with more than one tractor. Luckily we didn't need to reverse, this would have been really tricky on the small road.
Elli B — Google review
Great place to enjoy beautiful views of the island.
Robert K — Google review
A lovely view and a really fun drive up. There weren't a lot of people when I visited, although it's more of a quick stop to take a scenic photo. There were also cows resting up here when I visited.
Carlo F — Google review
When clear, this may be the most spectacular view on the island. The drive up through hydrangea (hortênsia) thriving on lava rock walls is a sight itself, but the big payoff comes at the top along the road and at the modern observation deck 542 meters above sea level and the 700 acre Achada Plain.
Tony D — Google review
Great spot. Fantastic views all round. On one side of a huge collapsed caldera with a patchwork of fields in the basin and the rim visible on 3 sides and cones towards the sea. Also home to just about every radio mast in the Azores. Well worth a visit.

Gruta do Natal, also known as Christmas Cave, is a 700m lava tube formed by flowing lava from surrounding volcanoes centuries ago. The cave features various rock formations and narrow passages that may require crawling at times. Visitors are advised to wear helmets due to low ceilings, irregular terrain, and stalactites. The cave holds significance for hosting Christmas Catholic Masses and offers a unique experience of being inside a lava tube.
Such fun, buy the combo pass for 15 euros and see this and the volcano. This is a fun walk through an old lava cave. The hard hat they give you to wear comes in handy!!

Would defo recommend — very cool place! This highlight will take you about 30 minutes max, including time to read everything and take photos. I’d also recommend doing the hike (Mistérios Negros) right next to it afterwards — absolutely unreal views!
Leal — Google review
Very cool cave formed from lava flow and explosions. We toured with our guide from Green Generation and it was awesome and we learned a lot beyond what was presented on the small placards throughout. Its formation is fascinating and to think you’re so close to the beautiful lake right above it is very neat. Gets a little tight in spots but only for a moment, we really enjoyed our visit.
J K — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place and definitely worth to see. Before you will go there take a comfortable outdoor shoes because in some place can be really wet. The temperature inside is OK for light jacket (fleece, softshell).
Robert K — Google review
Wonderful trek! An easy start, an eazy end and nicely uneasy midpart 😊 Lava paths are lavaly 😂
Jan Z — Google review
A great grotto with some truly unique geological features. You have to wear a helmet inside, and that's a good thing: ceiling is very low and it's easy to bump your head on the unforgiving volcanic rocks. Not recommended if you struggle with tight spaces: the path is one-way for a large section, so you can't turn around and go back.
Carsten B — Google review
The cave opens around 1400 pm. The day before visiting the cave, we hiked in the area and when we finished the trip, we saw that there was a long line at the entrance, so we decided to come another day. The next day we arrived after a difficult drive in thick fog with a visibility of about 10 meters, dangerous, I recommend driving slowly and turning on fog lights and flashing lights. The cave itself is not very impressive and a large part of it is not possible to reach at all. I would keep the option of visiting it on a rainy day, and if you have a series of beautiful days without rain, it is better to enjoy more interesting attractions.
Y Y — Google review
A very interesting lava tunnel. Not large, but it's an experience to walk through. We've walked through a lava tunnel in Hawaii before, but this remains an interesting and beautiful natural phenomenon worth doing again if you get the chance. Children are free; adults pay admission. Note that it's only open in the afternoon.

Great location to see. 50 yards off the main road you are fully immersed in nature and surrounded by trees. Many friendly ducks and chickens roaming around which add to the unique park atmosphere. The park is relatively small and if you take your time you can easily spend an hour just walking around. Plenty of parking across the road from the park gate.

Fascinating what nature can create. I am very happy that I had the opportunity to see this place. The green color of the moss on the stone and trees is incredible. A beautiful combination of green plants and extremely red-brown soil. A beautiful stream that descends in cascades along the roots of trees and forms small waterfalls. Soothing murmur of water and chirping of birds. It is possible to go very far upstream along the stream, jumping from the left to the right side of the bank and it is definitely worth it - the scenery is mesmerizing. Be careful, it is very slippery in some places. At the entrance, the lake is always full of friendly ducks. There are also many benches that can serve families with children for a picnic.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming fishing village of São Mateus, Beira Mar Restaurant is a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts. Renowned for its fresh fish offerings, this eatery boasts a simple yet inviting decor with stunning views of the marina. Diners can indulge in an array of delectable starters like barnacles and lobster before savoring grilled fish dishes that highlight the local catch. With over 11 years of service, Beira Mar has become a beloved spot among both locals and tourists alike.
It was recommended by a local gentleman named Marcelo, who we met by the bay when he was swimming there. He said the seafood was very good. Turned out it WAS very fresh and good. Four of us ordered each a bowl of soup of the day (vegetable soup), grilled octopus, fish kabobs and hake fillets. Everything was fresh and delicious! And the portions were just right for the four of us. There are not many tables inside. Their business is so good that you’d better make a reservation. We were lucky to get a table without reservations, but we were told that we had to finish within 1.5 hours, which was quite enough time for us. We paid $69 for this meal. I would recommend it to anyone who loves seafood.
Angela Z — Google review
We had the fresh fish of the day on a platter for two, served with potatoes, sweet potatoes, and vegetables. Everything was fresh, perfectly prepared, and very tasty. A special mention goes to our waiter Tomás, who filleted the fish right at our table and served it with great friendliness and attention – excellent service! Dessert was a perfect finish. With the view of the harbor, it was a wonderful evening. We’ll be happy to come back.
Jennifer S — Google review
Best fish I have ever had! The catch of the day was porco (Grey triggerfish) and it was grilled to perfection. My husband and I shared lapas (limpets) as an appetizer - a must try! Service was excellent. We didn't have a reservation but they found us a table as we arrived around 7.
Catherine L — Google review
We enjoyed a lovely dinner on the terrace of this fish restaurant with a view of the small harbour. If you love fish, this is the place to be. You can admire the fresh caught fish in the display or just ask the waiter for recommendations, like we did. The service was very friendly and our waiter spoke English very well. We absolutely adored the fish. The pineapple was a bit of a disappointment though, not as sweet and juicy as we would have hoped. So just skip dessert and come here for the fish.
Carolien C — Google review
We tried calling and couldn’t get through, but they were still able to squeeze us in - the place was packed! It was our last night in Terceira, so really thankful we didn’t have to resort to fast food. Fish was the best fish I had all trip! Service was superb and fun 🙂
Daisy F — Google review
We loved this place so much that we ate there 3 times in 4 days! Both the food and the service was wonderful. I enjoyed both types of skewers. They were consistently delicious and fresh. The sweet potatoes and french fries were my favourite sides. My cousin enjoyed the lapas (ordered 12 and got 30) and two kinds of grilled fish which were both absolutely delicious. Staff took their time to walk her to the fresh fish counter and explained what types there were. You can’t get fresher than what was there.
J A — Google review
Very pretty view of the crashing waves & mountain, incredibly attentive & kind service, & the food presentation & taste were good. The seafood soup in a bread bowl was so yummy & the squid & shrimp skewers were very good. (The limpeds were a little strong & salty but I think they're just an acquired taste.) We would definitely return here, if anything but to try their octopus which was not available today.

As a restaurant by the fishing boats, every fish you choose is fresh fresh fresh. After you choose the fish from the window display, it's being cooked, grilled, fried in a perfect way. They don't try to push you to eat more, they encourage you to share. At the end of the meal you don't feel full you feel satisfied and this is very important :).

Restaurant
Nestled conveniently close to the airport, Restaurante O Pescador in Praia da Vitória is a culinary gem on Terceira Island that truly shines. What sets this charming eatery apart is not just its delectable menu featuring both meat and seafood options, but also the warm and efficient service provided predominantly by a talented team of women.
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food was of excellent quality and absolutely delicious. The service was exceptional — we were served a dish with cilantro, which we don’t like, and the owner (I believe it was the owner, a very kind gentleman) immediately noticed our discomfort and promptly offered to replace the dish. The atmosphere was elegant, simple, and refined. On top of that, the service was outstanding! The waitresses were excellent… absolutely fabulous.

I'm here for only a day visiting a friend and he informed me this was the best place in town. He was right! I had the scorpion fish. The waitress suggested it and said, "He's quite an angry fish, but a delicious one." She was very attentive and fun! I know we also had calamari and another appetiser I can't remember the name of. But I have pictures of it. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant! UPDATE I'm back after almost two years off the island and this place has still remained a beacon of class and dining! We had such a great time tonight. The staff, specifically Sra Gomes, were very friendly, providing suggestions and was overall very welcoming!

Cataplana is very creamy and may be different from what you expect. Very good slow cooked meat called Alcatra in combination with sweet bread.
Maarten E — Google review
Just ate there this evening and it was quite good. We both had the fish soup and I had the cod fish pescadora while my husband had the special. The cod fish was very good but note that it is quite garlicky and very buttery. No conplaints though! The service was very well done and we appreciated all the attention.
Linda E — Google review
This is a total tourist trap. The food is overpriced and bland, the staff is rude and unprofessional, and the service is far below the standards of a supposedly expensive and upscale restaurant. The potatoes in the Cataplana, for instance, were clearly boiled days ago and were oxidized, and the entire dish felt like separate, poorly combined ingredients.

*USAF in uniform get 20% off* Though that was nice… it did not influence the review! 🤣 The food was incredible and our service was fantastic. I asked for suggestions on our meal/dessert and we had a great meal because of their recommendations. Our server was awesome! The Teriyaki Tuna was amazing and the ice cream is all homemade so you can’t go wrong. Definitely check the place out

Never been to restaurant where on the first page of menu listed their rules that you must adhere to. Food was mediocre. Waitress made you feel they wanted us out of there asap. We couldn't wait to leave the joint as they seated us next three loud mouth guys on their phones the whole time. The place was empty. They should have a anti noise rule on their menu.

Great meal, good location, cute ambiance, excellent service!!! We had fried calamari, fish rice dish, garlic prawns, grilled veggies, salad, and flan and passion fruit pudding for dessert. Descent price - 122 euros with 2 bottles of wine. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Praia.

Nestled in the heart of Angra do Heroísmo, the Duke of Terceira Garden is a stunning botanical oasis that transports visitors back to the romantic era of Portuguese history. Originally part of the Convento de São Francisco, this enchanting garden was designed in the 1880s and features remnants from its religious past, including charming azulejo panels and an old water tank known as Tanque do Preto.
A beautiful garden in winter. Entry was free, and the park was well maintained. The garden is adjacent to the Museum of Angra, making for a perfect afternoon. January 9, 2025 C & J

This is a gorgeous public garden. Well marked plants and trees. Nicely landscaped and well maintained. Very clean. It’s a relaxing place to meander or sit. You may also walk all the way up the winding paths until you reach the top overlook area with the orange monument. It’s a beautiful view of the city and of Monte Brasil. It’s free to enter and appropriate for all ages. There are some areas that are accessible. Other areas have steep stairs. My favorite part was the little river with steps so you can walk over the running water.

Great place in Angra to explore or just relax. My wife likes to get a cup of ice cream just outside the garden and enjoy it inside. I like to get popcorn and feed the birds.
David C — Google review
A really lovely and quite large public garden. Lots of colourful and very variable flowers, trees, bushes - the things to see in a garden. You can also see some birdlife in the trees and hear frogs croaking (and see them with a bit of luck). The garden is quite large, so you can spend some hours here just walking around and enjoying the plants. You can also climb up the highest part of the hill where the first fort in town once stood.

As this island isn't boring enough, now you cant even feed the pigeons. Why do you want a park full of trees if you dont like birds. The fish is on horrible condition, the water is disgusting. I cant even look at it. There is multiple ways to take care of a pound and seems like none is being used

Facho Viewpoint, also known as Miradouro do Facho, is a hilltop spot located just outside Praia da Vitoria. It offers stunning panoramic views of the town, harbor, and surrounding countryside. Accessible by car or a steep staircase for the more adventurous, this viewpoint provides an ideal vantage point to capture breathtaking photos. Visitors can also enjoy a swing at the top of the mountain for a unique experience.
Came here to watch the sunrise since it’s on the east side of the island and was not disappointed. No one around at all that early expect for a friendly farmer. Drive was easy with lots of parking.

You have 2 ways to go up: either the road that winds through the green fields, the cows and the northern sea view or a geometrical structure of steps that arrives directly to the viewpoint. From there you get a nice view of the city and its unreal silence.

Totally worth visiting, beautiful place and the surroundings
Heidi M — Google review
Kids friendly description: This hilltop lookout gives you a stunning view over the town, the bay, and the ocean beyond. It’s called Facho because in the old days, people lit signal fires (fachos) here to warn the island if enemy ships were coming! Now there’s a big white monument to peace at the top, and it’s a great place for photos or just to feel the wind and watch the waves. You’re standing where guards once kept watch to protect the island—pretty epic, right?
Filip F — Google review
Great place to get an overall view of Praia Vitoria. Super convenient and close to town. Highly recommend
Derrick L — Google review
Big climb for the fit and able. Acrophobics should not attempt the climb. It is reachable by road too. On the day we climbed it was closed, but worth it for the views of Praia Da Vitória and challenge for a pensioner.
Ian — Google review
If you're looking for a unique and breathtaking experience, I highly recommend checking out the swing on the top of the mountain. The journey up the mountain is a nice one, and the scenery along the way is absolutely stunning. Just be aware that you might catch a whiff of the cows before you actually see them. But don't let that deter you, because once you reach the top of the mountain, you'll be rewarded with incredible views and a truly unforgettable experience. In addition to the swing, there's also a beautiful statue to admire. It's the perfect spot to snap some photos and take in the natural beauty of the area. #Touristattraction #Photoop

Queijo Vaquinha is a charming restaurant and cheese factory that offers a delightful dining experience. Visitors can enjoy a complimentary sampler of their cheeses before indulging in generous portions of delicious cheese sandwiches. The establishment also serves coffee, wine, and beer, providing the perfect accompaniments to their delectable offerings. With both indoor and outdoor dining options, clean facilities, and friendly English-speaking staff, it's an ideal spot to unwind while sampling local cheeses.
Great place to sample locally produced cheese, have a sandwich and a beer. Friendly staff. ++Recommend. Enjoy

Great place to try local cheese and learn about how they are made. They have a cheese board that has 4 types so you can try them all before deciding which to buy. Also good for coffee, snack and relaxing in the countryside

Great place. I recommend trying the cheese platter prior to selecting wood sandwich you want. They serve coffee wine and beer. They have indoor and outdoor dining. The bathrooms were clean and plenty of parking. The staff spoke great English and were extremely friendly and welcoming. Great place to relax have a drink and sample some local cheeses.
Fred T — Google review
So friendly! Helpful in selecting cheeses. They give you a free tasting board, then you can go back and get more of what you like. They do tours of the factory in the morning, which we missed.
Bryant J — Google review
Make sure to stop here and grab yourself a much deserved double espresso and a delicious treat! Inside is nice, quaint and relaxing, with the local bull runs looping on the TV. Quite intertaining viewing to say the least, but even more entertaining is the outside patio with the gentle breeze and warm sun awaiting you and your cafe! Then the views take hold and you pause for a moment realizing just exactly where your sitting, and the history of this place, the architecture of the building, the simplicity and value of a craft long forgotten. Explore the cheese processing area, then grab yourself a sample of four wonderful cheeses they offer, and then better yet, purchase one of those vacuum wrapped delights to take back home with ya for some bragging rights! Most local tours will stop here, but if you're on your own, plan to spend some time here. It's a wonderful spot to relax on the patio.
Richard W — Google review
I recommend this place! Try the different types of cheese, either on a small plate for free or on a big plate with sweet bread. Moreover, there is great coffee (as always on the Azores). Slushy and brownie is recommendable, too. Good parking opportunities and not to crowded. Prices totally OK.
Roman S — Google review
Great little restaurant to stop by and grab a quick lunch and use the restroom. It's also a cheese factory, but we didn't get to see that part of the shop. Our tour guide recommended we stop by, which we agreed to. They provide a complimentary small sampler of their cheeses which was appreciated. We ended up ordering a cheese sandwich, which was a really huge portion for the price. The two of us were able to share a single portion despite not eating for the rest of the day. I think it was around €3, a bit more if you want ham and cheese. If I were to come again I'd probably sit on the patio instead of indoors, as the air is more fresh there and there are some nice views to be seen.

OceanEmotion Azores Whale Watching is a popular choice for adrenaline seekers in Angra do Heroismo. The Azores are known as one of the world's largest whale sanctuaries, with over 20 cetacean species passing through or calling it home. This makes it an ideal location for whale watching and swimming with dolphins. The company offers tours that provide a unique opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, making it a must-do activity when visiting the area.
The staff at OceanEmotion were all so friendly. Our guide was very knowledgeable and she made sure everyone was okay throughout the whole trip. She made sure to come around to all the passengers & give tidbits of information about the animals we saw and also the history of the islands & other fun facts
Paris H — Google review
Very nice trip where we saw many dolphins. The guide was well informed and kind. However check the other reviews to see that it's not smart to put a big bet on whales because it's only around 50/50 chance you can see one. There is also no refund or possibility to go again if you don't see the whales. Have that in mind!
Aljaž B — Google review
We saw 4 sperm whales and a lot of Atlantic Spotted Dolphins! 😀 We got so lucky and loved that! However, as a customer, I have a recommendation for management: 1) Please disclose what type of boat is being used when the customer is considering purchasing tickets because we were under the impression that it would be a bigger boat. Please consider using a different bigger boat because we were on the smaller yellow Homero boat and the seats were uncomfortable with no seat belt (you have to sit with your legs open and hold on to the seat bars in front of you if you want to keep yourself situated in your seat. We’ve been on plenty of boats in other places for dolphin watching and this one for some reason was uncomfortable. Photography and video recording were very challenging because while the boat was stopped, it kept rocking back and forth so it was difficult to get my camera to focus on the whales and dolphins. The boat was going fast and there were times that the waves would hit the boat from underneath, which would cause the boat to feel like it would bounce against the waves. However, the boat driver did well in keeping everyone safe! Overall, we are glad we went on the whale/dolphin watching tour and definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Terceira! Lastly, the young lady with shoulder length brown hair (Marine Biologist) was excellent and impressive!

Me and ny uncle did both the whale watching and snorkeling tour and it was one of the best experiences across the whole Island, the amount of care they has for us and the animals was amazing. How they tried to teach us about the animals we saw in a fun manner by playing what did we spot/see was really nice. Overall id highly recommend anyone that visits terceira to do a whale watching or snorkeling tour with OceanEmotion! Thanks for the amazing time!

The museum also features the beautiful church Igreja de Sao Francisco with stunning wood works. Terrific museum covering the history of Angra, Terceira, and the Azores. For a modest entry fee of 1 € you will need several hours to work your way through all the galleries and installations in this former convent turned museum. On any day, but especially perhaps a rainy one, MAH is worth a visit. The museum has made good efforts to improve accessibility for wheelchairs and strollers with ramps and an elevator. The Wine Museum is a charming and peaceful place to visit, showcasing traditional vintner tools and vineyard areas. The self-guided tour offers explanations in both Portuguese and English, with the owner available for guidance. Visitors can explore the old pot stills used for making Portuguese moonshine from grapes. The museum also features hundreds of years of wine-making history and tools on display, along with a small grounds area to view different wine varieties being grown.
We loved this place to learn a bit about the grape cultivation in the area. It is very special and beautiful. No entry fee.

Nice and peaceful visit. Lots of cool traditional vintner tools and vineyard areas. Free self guided tour but the owner is also there if you need guidance and explanation in Portuguese. Lots of signs in Portuguese and English explaining what you are looking at. My favorite was the old pot stills (Alembic) for making Aguardente (Portuguese moonshine made from grapes). Took roughly 30 mins to walk through. No tasting available for the six wines they have for sale. Roughly €15 per bottle.

The hiking area Mistérios Negros Trailhead is a beautiful place to hike with great views. It is an advanced trail and not for everyone, so be prepared with good hiking shoes and a rain jacket.
Amazing hike! A must do when visiting Terceira. It can be tough at some points but with the right shoes and attitude everyone can do it. It’s best when it is not raining, it can be slippery and muddy. Took us about 2h.
Guus S — Google review
Amazing hike, really challenging at times, but we managed to it with 4 and 7 years kids. Better to avoid during rainy days as it is really slipper at times and muddy.
Dovilė B — Google review
A moderate-hard trail. Overcrowded at the beginning (12 a.m.) and hard to go around the slow people since there is no space on the trail to get around them. Otherwise a really nice environment and scenery.
Matúš G — Google review
An exceptional hike that will challenge you mentally and physically. Depending on your level of physical activity it is not a trail I would recommend for someone just starting out. A wide trailhead at the beginning leads you into a well shaded forest and a small lake. The trail was wet and had some very soft areas with deeper areas of mud. The trail narrows in other parts where feet are in close proximity to one another. This is one of the best trails I have hiked thus far. Be sure to make the extra 2.2 km walk to Lagos do Patas and up Pico Gaspar.
Jeremy D — Google review
Fantastic hike, absolutely recommended in Terceira. Consider 2 hours at least to complete it. There is no water or food during the trail so bring something before leaving. We parked the car close to the entrance of Gruta de Nadal. The trail is perfectly marked. It's quite hilly but not difficult and not strenuous. The scenery changes during the trip, between lakes, forest, view points...unmissable in Terceira. A car is necessary to reach the starting poit.

The Black Mystery Trail (Mistério Negro) is a must-do hike on Terceira. It takes you through lush, green forests and across dramatic black lava fields left by the 1761 eruption. The contrast between the deep green canopy and the dark volcanic rock is surreal and breathtaking. The 5 km loop is well-marked and fairly easy, perfect for nature lovers. We went early and had the place to ourselves — total peace and incredible scenery. It truly feels like walking through another world. This trail captures the wild, mysterious spirit of the Azores.

Strong footwear needed and a reasonable level of fitness as parts of the hike are almost vertical climbing and challenging. For example taking a baby in a backpack would be dangerous. In autumn slippery and wet. But it is spectacular as everyone says. And free.

2 seniors 60 and 69, not in shape, decided just to check. if too hard, we"ll turn back. 10% is with steps and wooden platforms, the rest is roots and mud. climed up and doun, tried not to fall, hanged from branches, decided it is too much, and then found we hae passed 3 km. easier to continue. bueatifull view of the hills, felt a little like the sound of music. ended it at 2.2 hours. the trail marks are not good enough. bring good shoes, good vibes, optimism, and you"ll manage.

Very awseome hike along the coastline. We enjoyed every part of it because of its diversity in nature. The beach was great as well as the last part with the big rock formation. We also picked up some food before and ate it while hiking.

Terceira Mar Hotel in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira offers a convenient location near the UNESCO-listed center of the city and stunning ocean views. The hotel features modern decor with dark woods and warm colors, providing a sophisticated atmosphere.
The junior suite was spacious and the views are breathtaking. Enjoyed the balcony daily, in all weather. There could be a few updates, especially in the bathrooms, but the room was kept clean and they were minimal and didn't affect overall comfort or enjoyment. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful with one exception. The cleaning staff was outstanding! They did an amazing job and went above and beyond by anticipating needs we didn't even know we had. The personal touches of the cleaning staff made our stay even more amazing. The outdoor pool was closed due to the season and the indoor pool was only available during certain hours due to the community using it for classes. The hot tub was more of a warm tub, but was clean and appreciated after a long day of walking hills. The location felt remote and private while being within walking distance to town. The restaurants were closed for renovations, but some food was available. The staff notified us of the closure multiple times in advance and directed us to some truly amazing local restaurants. I will definitely stay here again.
Gretchen C — Google review
The location and views of this hotel are great, nice big pool, good service. I didn’t enjoy the breakfast and the rooms are ok, little old but they have a nice view and balcony. The rooms don’t have a steamer or an iron in the room, you have to request it in the lobby, use it in a separate room and return it. I saw roach in the room during the day :( .
Mara R — Google review
Very nice hotel with wonderful views, a great location and exceptional, friendly service. We stayed for two nights on a trip celebrating our anniversary. Management provided a delicious cheese plater with nice wine to recognize our celebration that was wonderful. The hotel was very clean and the front desk staff was exceptional. Marcia spent a lot of time booking dinner reservations for us and was very helpful with all of our questions! The only reservation that we had is that the rooms need some updating and the food was subpar for the level of this wonderful hotel. It looks like they have renovated the restaurants since our stay so hopefully the food quality will be elevated as well.
S C — Google review
The hotel is so nice! Rooms are great, especially the rooms with views & balconies. Front desk staff were so helpful. Swimming pool is large and nice with lots of lounging chairs nearby. We had the junior suite, superior double and classic double rooms. The view of the junior suite was exceptional. Hotel location was good, walking distance to the center.
Bashayer A — Google review
So luxurious! We really enjoyed staying here. The view of the ocean from our balcony was fabulous. We enjoyed the bar and getting small bites at night. We also loved the walk along the ocean and the easy access to the town. The front desk was super helpful and wonderful every time we had a question or request.
Linda E — Google review
Great place! Pool is only 4' deep but has a killer view of Mt. Brasil there is a large kids pool which is nice. Outdoor bar is great but you can't order food from it. You have to order food from the hotel restaurant on the top floor (ground floor), this is the only negative in the pool area. About a 15 min walk from downtown Angra. Recommend using the pool entrance to walk to the city as opposed to walking on the street.
Fred T — Google review
Title: A Disappointing Stay with Multiple Issues I'm writing this review with a heavy heart, as my recent stay at the hotel was incredibly disappointing, especially given that I had high hopes for a relaxing trip. My issues began before I even arrived. I had emailed the hotel in advance to inform them of my severe gluten allergy. I was told that they would be prepared to accommodate me. Upon arrival, it was clear the restaurant staff was completely unprepared. After much discussion and back and forth, they were finally able to provide gluten-free meals. However, the overall experience was made extremely difficult due to the staff's clear lack of training and the incredibly long wait times for my meals. This made dining a stressful and unenjoyable experience. The service at the pool bar was also subpar. I was served a glass of water in a visibly dirty cup. This was particularly concerning, as I had just watched the bartender struggle to open a bottle of wine, raising doubts about their overall level of training and professionalism. However, my biggest frustration lies with the room itself. I paid an additional 30 euros per night for a "superior ocean view" room. The photo attached shows the view from my balcony. As you can clearly see, there is no ocean view whatsoever. My view is of a courtyard and some trees. This is a clear misrepresentation and a waste of the extra money I spent. I spoke with hotel management about the issue, offering a reasonable solution: to adjust the room price from the "superior ocean view" to the standard "ocean view." On the second night of my three-night stay, a staff member named Lucinda indicated that she would execute the request pending management approval. To my surprise and frustration, at checkout, the hotel "director" told me he would be unable to make the adjustment due to hotel policy. He claimed that the offer to change rooms on the second night was not taken up. I had to explain that I had no desire to change rooms after already unpacking and that I shouldn't have to relocate after paying extra for a superior ocean view in the first place. Overall, the combination of unprepared staff, poor service, the misrepresentation of the room's view, and the hotel's unwillingness to find a reasonable resolution made for a very negative experience. I would not recommend this hotel based on my stay. I believe the management needs to address these issues to ensure future guests do not have a similar experience.

We really had a dreamy stay at this wonderful hotel. Would highlight being very comfortable, the great breakfast with fantastatic scenery views and a close and friendly service too. In addition, the amenities have it all with outdoor an indoor pool, spa, tennis and padel courts and great pilates and tai chi group activities. Last but not least it’s got a sort of private ocean access. We undoubtedly will be back!

Algar do Carvão is a remarkable volcanic cavern located in Terceira, one of the larger islands in the Azores. This natural wonder features steps that guide visitors through impressive rock formations, lush vegetation, and a captivating lagoon. Situated inside the chimney of a volcano, this awe-inspiring sight offers an amazing experience for those seeking ancient wonders. However, it's important to note that visiting hours vary by season and may require advance booking.
Absolutely beautiful! Free parking and easy road access Ticket isn’t too expensive, but on the higher side. Be careful about opening times! As they only open for a couple of hours every day, and aren’t open every day of the week. The cave itself is beautiful. Although it can get a bit crowded.
Matyas A — Google review
One of the rare places in the world where it is possible to live the experience of being inside a volcano. The experience is simply fantastic and unmissable.
Nelson L — Google review
An amazing sight to visit for sure, but don't miss the amazing hiking trail that starts and ends here. It is a 6.2 km circular trail that takes you through the nearby Furnas do Enxofre to the west. It is a moderately challenging trail with a variety of scenery and absolutely spectacular and worth your time. As the caves do not open until 2 PM, I suggest coming early and doing the trail at 10 AM so you will have a bit of a break after looping back around and still be the first in line to go into the cave. It's a perfect way to end your hike as the cave is quite a bit cooler than the area around it. Bring a snack and water as there's few options to eat nearby.
Charles C — Google review
A must see place to visit while in Terceira. Plenty of free parking. 10 euro per adult to visit. Stairs help your descent into the lava cave. Spectacular views inside. Small gift shop after the visit. WC onsite. Enjoy😀
R P — Google review
Incredible volcano . Its one of the rare off volcanoes that you can go inside it and see how magma found its way to come out. It's fascinating. Rain water caused a small lake inside which in winter could get 20 meter deepness. In summer it is not that deep. I really enjoyed visiting this place.
Sanaz N — Google review
Such an amazing place to experience. Been here a few times. Definitely will say that going when the sky is blue and clear makes for such incredible photos. A clear blue sky against the green here makes for such incredible photos.
Anthony B — Google review
Must see. It's like from a fantasy movie. The hours of opening that some people are commenting to be strange is to control the crowd and number of people per day to preserve the cave. Educate yourself before you start judging, ok! The fact that someone made it possible for you to walk into a volcano deserves 5 stars in itself
Kate O — Google review
It's a very big volcanic cavern in the center of the Terceira island. To get here a car is highly recommended. The parking lot is is very big and there was plenty of free space despite the weekend in summer. The parking lot is right next to the entrance. The cavern is impressive, especially the hole leading to the surface. It's very easy to walk because there are stairs everywhere. Rain jacket is useful because of water dripping from the ceiling. It's possible to buy a combined ticket for Algar do Carvao and Gruta do Natal (smaller volcanic cave a short car ride away). Overall, very impressive and recommended to visit

Airport
Aerogare Civil das Lajes, originally built for defense purposes during World War II, has been utilized by both the United Kingdom and the United States. It holds significant geopolitical importance for the US since the Cold War. The airport is small with a relatively short runway but suitable for its flight and passenger capacity. It offers taxi and car rental services, limited shopping options, accessibility for people with disabilities, and multiple restrooms.
My flight between JFK and OPO with Azures Airlines included a “technical stop” at the beautiful Terceira Island in the middle of the Atlantic. There were not many amenities open at 07:00, but the bathrooms were in great condition. Seats had USB plugs; overall, a great stop to refuel and stretch out!
Geovanny — Google review
This is a small but nice airport. Its dated but very clean. The people working here are efficient & courteous. There are a few shops & after you go through security there is a donut/snack shop with an espresso machine & wine bar. There is also a souvenir store (before security there is a little restaurant with a larger food selection and a few souvenir shops.
Howard T — Google review
A tiny but well-maintained airport. Make sure you have enough time for the security check since they do check most of the things manually, i.e. boarding pass, liquids, etc. Wifi works fine. Toilets are clean.
Yordan Y — Google review
A nice well equipped airport with a snack bar and shop where you can buy wine and cheese (For 2xs the price in the street} for flights back to the USA, it is nice because there is a snack bar "make me nuts" in the USA departure area where you can get a drink or bites while you wait for your flight. Make sure to bring water on board. The fried chicken bola levadura it's delicious.
Marcus W — Google review
Small and old airport. Minimal facilities. Seems that most of Sata azores fights between the islands get cancelled or veeery delayed and that has nothing to do with the weather conditions.
Maria N — Google review
Long lines and problems at check in delayed our flight. The security line was long and instead of having communication between check in and security to prioritize late passengers the security personnel said -"get back in line, it's not our fault". I mean if people are genuinely late to the airport then it's their fault. That wasytge case today. Unfriendly a d unprofessional.
Johan W — Google review
Lajes Airport is extremely disappointing. It’s obvious that SATA flights are given priority while low-cost carriers like Ryanair are treated terribly. Delays with Ryanair happen constantly, while SATA departures seem to leave on time without issue. Staff show little interest in helping low-cost passengers, and the overall service feels deliberately neglectful. The facilities are uncomfortable, and there’s a clear double standard in how airlines are treated. If you’re flying with Ryanair, expect long delays, poor communication, and the feeling that you’re second-class compared to SATA passengers
Tiago P — Google review

Restaurante Tradicional A Venda do Ti Manel da Quinta offers visitors a glimpse into traditional rural farm life on Terceira Island. The complex includes a restaurant serving characteristic local dishes, accommodations in stone houses, and re-creations of a general store, cobbler's shop, and sawmill. The working farm features vegetable gardens and animals like donkeys, chickens, cows, and pigs. The homey dining room serves delicious food by staff dressed in traditional attire.
Absolutely stunning location! The staff were super friendly and lovely. The food as even better. We tried the beef Alcatraz and it’s the BEST we had on the island! Honestly a good serving portion so make sure to come hungry because you’ll need the space for all the food. Recommend to anyone visiting the island. Make sure to make a reservation in advance! I had the pleasure of visiting Quinta do Martelo and was blown away by the incredible service from Paul. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and his genuine hospitality made the experience truly memorable. The food was nothing short of exceptional — authentic, traditional Azorean cuisine at its very best. The highlight was without a doubt the alcatra, perfectly prepared and bursting with rich, comforting flavors that showcase the island’s culinary heritage. Every bite was a reminder of how special and unique this place is. If you’re looking for not just a meal but a real cultural and gastronomic experience, Quinta do Martelo is the place to go. Typical old farm which kept most of it's original traces while converted into a restaurant. The also typical Alcatra from meet dish is still done the old way cooking slowly for 24h in a wood oven from the farm. Great location just off the City Center, and there were many locals waiting in line as we approached. A great sign! The line moved quick, as the typical work ethic here is inspiring to say the least. Anyway, wonderful choices of the local sweets, but don't wait too late in the day, as the inventory sells quickly here. We loaded up, had a couple double espresso's and still kept it under 5 Euro's. A must stop for your sweet tooth, and your caffeine fix.

Vigia das Baleias, such as the one in Miradouro do Raminho on Terceira island in the Azores, were once used for whale hunting but now serve as lookouts for admiring sea views and observing cetaceans from a distance. The viewpoint offers breathtaking vistas of the coast, with seabirds soaring below and waves crashing against volcanic outcroppings. On clear days, it's possible to see Graciosa island from this spot.
How could you not give this view 5 stars? Utterly breathtaking vista to the left and right up and down the coast. Seabirds frolic in the updrafts 200 feet below you. Waves crashing and rumbling in against the volcanic outcroppings. The wind in your hair.

This is our favorite hike on Terceira! It has beautiful views with wonderful natural scenery and some more difficult climbs. But you should wear wsterproof hiking boots, especially during the off season, because there will be some unavoidable muddy sections and climbs. The distance of the trail from start to finish was 8.8 km. I would have ranked this hike a five if not for the unavoidable and deep mud spots in some sections.

Calheta dos Lagadores is a stunning natural pool where visitors can take a refreshing dip while being surrounded by World War II trenches made of volcanic rock. These trenches were used to defend the island and are integrated into Terceira's defensive system. The site is well-maintained with easy access to the water, making it perfect for swimming, diving, and snorkeling. In the summer, it offers calm seas and a variety of fish for an enjoyable aquatic experience.
As a Local this is my favourite "secret" spot to have a swim. Very small and cosy place to swim in the open sea. There are no lifeguards.

Hiking area
Hike Fortes de São Sebastião - PR05TER is a 9km linear route that starts near the Contendas viewpoint or in the town of Sao Sebastiao. The trail, close to the coast, offers lush landscapes and spectacular views of volcanic rock formations. While some parts are poorly marked, it's an intuitive and worthwhile hike. The last kilometer involves climbing to the San Sebastian fortress but is not difficult unless it's very hot.
I love this place! This is a good hiking place, to bad I did not had the proper shoes but I will be here more often. It's a peaceful place to enjoy with your family and friends.

I have to say that I liked this route the least of my itinerary in Terceira because the landscape and vegetation was nothing special, although it does have historical value. You pass through many cattle fields and the road is often covered with excrement.

Beautiful walk! About 6 kilometers along the coast with some moderate climbs. The path is well marked both ways. Beautiful views of the coast and surrounding areas!

(Translated by Google) Excellent hike to complete a trip through Ilha Terceira. In addition to the lush landscapes of the interior, you cannot miss this tremendous coastal geopark in this area of the island. There were naval battles here almost 500 years ago, there are rock formations of volcanic origin and the views are spectacular. If it is not very hot, the visit is not difficult except for the last kilometer of climbing to the San Sebastián fortress. We only did the coastal part and did not go up to the last fortress. And, despite this, we enjoyed the landscape and the sea. Highly recommended.

Ilhéus das Cabras, also known as the Islets of the Goats, are two small islands off the coast of southern Terceira. These stunning islands, Ilheu Pequeno and Ilheu Grande, offer a picturesque seascape best viewed from various points along the southern coast. While visitors cannot set foot on the islands, they are part of a protected area with rich endemic vegetation and serve as an important nesting zone for seabirds.
From different locations these two parts of a volcano can appear as one. They make for a beautiful sunrise picture if you are in Angra do Heroísmo (at the fort) Worth a trip along the south coast to see the two as well

Stunning islands off the coast of southern Terceira. The Cabras Islets (Portuguese: Ilhéus das Cabras; literally, Islets of the Goats) are actually two small islands: the Ilhéu Pequeno (Small Islet) and the Ilhéu Grande (Large Islet). Sunrise and sunset are both great times to have a look at them from a number of viewing points along the southern coast.

You can’t actually set foot on the islands, but they form part of a gorgeous scenic seascape along the road to Praia da Vittoria. Best vantage points near Porto Judeu. High winds and waves batter the cliffs - whale and boat tours circumnavigate the islands and the cacophony of the seabirds can be deafening up close

As the largest in the Azores Archipelago, this crater boasts a 15 km diameter and holds the largest water reservoir on Terceira Island.

This crater, from the now extinct Morião Volcano, has an opening measuring 15 km in diameter, and is home to the largest water reservoir on the entire Terceira Island, since the lagoon that once existed here was covered thousands of years ago by lava flows that erupted from the Algar do Carvão eruption. The Guilherme Moniz Caldera is covered with large expanses of vegetation that create a breathtaking landscape, housing important indigenous flora, typical of these natural phenomena. When visiting Angra do Heroísmo, be sure to explore the Palácio dos Capitães Generais, a historic building that once served as the official residence of the first general captain responsible for administering the Azores archipelago. This palace also functioned as a royal residence during visits by kings. The museum inside houses valuable works of art and important pieces from Portuguese monarchy history, including an impressive collection of 17th-century hollandaise tiles.
Excellent experience, guide was fantastic and explained everything very well. Tour takes about half an hour but provides a wealth of knowledge about not only the palace but Terceira island and the Azores. Highly recommend for those that are interested in the history of these fantastic islands.

It’s a nice place to visit, we paid 3 euro for guided tour vs 2 euro for non guided tour. Very cheap, tour guide was knowledgeable, spoke good English, felt a bit rushed though. Overall worth a visit. Garden is beautiful.

Really interesting insight into the history of Terceira and The Azores. I highly recommend the guided tour. If you are visiting Angra do Heroismo; this is a must see.
Bryn — Google review
Definitely take this (inexpensive (3 Euro) tour (the only way to see inside this historic (and current) seat of government. The tour of this 16th century residence, school, Chapel and offices deftly captures the somewhat twisted history of Terceira and the Azores - which itself mirrors the larger machinations of the Spanish and Portuguese empires. It's a great grounding for the more human and down to earth parts of the history you'll learn during your visit to this wonderful city. Don't skip the gardens or Chapel! Sorry, but because the Palace is still used for the administration of the Azores, picture-taking is restricted to the modem exhibit room and the chapel.

Piscinas Naturais Biscoitos, named after the Portuguese word for cookies due to the resemblance of lava rocks to large black cookies, offers a safe and enjoyable swimming experience with lifeguards at each pool. The natural pools are surrounded by volcanic coast in the town of Biscoitos and provide easy access with concrete areas. Visitors can also enjoy local craft items, fresh fruit stands, and a snack bar/restaurant.
Really awesome place! A must visit while on Terceira. Parking and enterance is free, with free toilets and changing rooms nearby. The water is crystal clear, but be careful about high tide and strong wind, as the there’s a possibility the pools will be closed off due to high waves.

Stayed within walking distance of here. The pools are amazing. A great place to snorkel or swim. Tons of cool fish. Can be a little crowded but not as bad as US beaches. Def wear water shoes because the lava rock will scratch you

Huge waves, very windy, nice natural pools. You can swim when the weather is good. Pools are free of charge. There cafeteria and public toilets for free.
Pana E — Google review
I believe it is the largest swimming area on the island. There are several pools, but the ones without wave flow are dirty. The pool at the end where it says “Belo Abismo” is the best because there are no people and it is cleaner.
Ana M — Google review
Beautiful lava “beach “ with accessible pools for all swimming levels. Powerful waves and amazing views with an adjacent park, restaurant and food and variety of vendors. We visited off season and are advised that during summer days there are multiple additional vendors with a good variety of options for food and drinks. Free parking and public restrooms available as well.
H T — Google review
I can only imagine how cool this place would be in the warmer months! Calm warm waters, lifeguards on duty, food trucks, restroom and showers, but beware of the crowds. Great spot to snorkel for a very different experience. Swimming in natural lava pools on the edge of an island...in the middle of the Atlantic! ✔️💙
