Waterfalls
Trafalgar Falls, located in Dominica, is a stunning natural attraction featuring twin waterfalls. The 125ft 'Father' fall and the 75ft 'Mother' fall can be viewed from a platform near Papillote Wilderness Retreat. A short, easy trail leads to the falls, making it accessible for visitors. The area offers a cold-water pool by one waterfall and hot spring water by the other.
Easy and short hike to Mother and Father falls. Astonishingly beautiful. There is a thermal spring up near the base of the Father. You do not need a guide but they are available on the viewing platform if you wish. Amazing place.

Beautiful space. I couldn't climb up because I didn't have water shoes and I couldn't get through the rocks. Bought the most amazing cookies I've ever had and a guava cherry juice. Delicious
Kyle F — Google review
It’s a pretty good waterfall with an easy enough hike (15-20 minutes) but they changed the price to $20 USD per person, for only one site. You can only pay in cash on site and they are very misleading about what the passes apply to. I’ve been to better waterfalls for free
Kai L — Google review
Trafalgar Falls is absolutely beautiful! I visited during the off-season, and there was only one other person there — it was so peaceful. The scenery is incredible, and it’s the perfect place to just sit and watch the waterfalls. It honestly feels like you’ve stepped into another world… almost like Jurassic Park! It was only like $5 USD. The view is stunning and definitely a great spot for photos. The walk from the entrance is super easy — only about 5 minutes on a well-maintained path. There are restrooms near the front where you purchase your ticket. A must-see while visiting Dominica!
Nichole P — Google review
Only a short 10 minute hike to get to the slice of heaven. You can also hike to under the falls of course at your own risk.
Chelsa J — Google review
Fun short walk through the jungle with a bunch of lizards. You can boulder your way to the base of the falls, but it isn't easy. Great view of the falls for those not wanting to climb. We were there for 45 mins and enjoyed climbing around and playing in the river. $5 entry fee.
Adam K — Google review
Beautiful waterfall attraction. There us a 10 to 15 minutes light intensity hiking trail from the main parking area to the falls.. then you need to trek up some boulders and small pools to get closer to the actual falls. Breathtaking and spectacular

Boiling Lake is a natural wonder located in Morne Trois Pitons National Park in Dominica. It is accessible via a challenging 12.9-kilometer trail that takes approximately 3 hours to complete, featuring steep inclines and rugged terrain. The lake is heated by lava and emits rising water vapors, creating an ethereal atmosphere in the Valley of Desolation.
MOST INCREDIBLE HIKE!!!! YOU NEED A GUIDE!!!!! - the paths are very muddy and not that obvious!!! Please do not hike this on your own, as the paths can very dangerous if you do not know what you are doing or where you are going!!!!! We went with Chadi (@chadi.767treks on instagram) he is the most knowledgeable and fun guide and also gave us lots of other facts about plants, trees, volcanoes, weather patterns & the island. He knows SO MUCH about this hike and I cannot recommend him enough! He made this 8 hour hike really fun, interesting and we even got a mini spa treatment and he also took lots of photos of us too :) It was the most breathtaking scenery as you go through 4 different types of rainforests and each very different to the other. As a photographer I was in heaven! This hike is totally worth it! Message Chadi on instagram and he will be your perfect guide! Thank you Chadi for making this hiking experience so amazing for us!
Shannon R — Google review
We normally don't hire guides for day hikes, but we'd heard Boiling Lake requires it, so based on prior reviews here, Chadi Symes sounded like the obvious choice for the job. He was timely, knowledgeable, fun, and let us take our time getting there and back. We completed the whole hike in about 7 hours. This is definitely a Type 2 fun kind of adventure where you're going to work for it, but you'll feel accomplished afterwards. When Chadi says this is the most extreme hike in the Caribbean, he's not exaggerating. The scenery is like nothing I've ever seen before and I'm grateful to have been able to make it here before the cable car is operational.
Zuzanna S — Google review
DANGEROUS! Very dangerous hike. Technical and pretty traitorous conditions but ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. The terrain is steep and slippery. You are either scrambling rocks or walking on logs. You definitely need to hire a guide as the trail is not marked. NO CELL SERVICE in most of the hike and NO search and rescue in the country if you fall and get hurt. (Someone slipped and died the day we did the hike) The route is about 8miles round trip and 2,600 ft elevation gain total but it will take around 5 or 6 hrs due to the conditions (ours was 7.5hrs because of the accident) With that said, it is well worth it. Absolutely beautiful views along the way with lots of hot water crossings which felt amazing to dip my feet in. Wear shoes that can be soaking wet and muddy for the entire hike. I wore reef shoes with socks and I was comfortable. Some people wear bathing suits and swim in the hot water from the volcano. The actual lake is not worth the hike because it’s steamy and you can barely see the water boiling 300 ft from the edge where you stand but the scenery to it is unbelievable. You can even see the lava flows from previous eruptions when you hike down into the crater. This is like no other hike and I would highly recommend it, but don’t hike it if you have balance issues.
Raquel R — Google review
I did the hike on Nov 4 2024. Was the most amazing hike ever. Took us 7 hours to complete. I went with the best Tour Guide. His name was Peter (Bushman Tours). He made me take a lot of pictures/videos, and he also knows a lot about plants. He charged me $120ec. It was tough. Started to had cramps in my legs in my way back. But it was worthy. There are plenty of beautiful plants on the road. Beautiful fresh rivers in the beginning and then hot rivers the closer you get.
Lerone P — Google review
The Boiling Lake hike in Dominica is a challenging but unforgettable experience with stunning scenery that takes you through rainforest, cloud forest, and the surreal Valley of Desolation. A guide is required—we went with Chadi, who expertly led our group of six, even navigating around a recent landslide. As seasoned hikers, we were a bit nervous from the reviews, but the hike is very doable for anyone in decent shape who’s comfortable climbing rocks, crossing rivers, and getting muddy—it’s ankle-deep in spots and definitely messy. We took about 8 hours with plenty of stops, and while there’s a lot of up and down both ways, the adventure and views make it 100% worth the effort!
Lauren P — Google review
YOU DO NOT NEED A GUIDE FOR THIS HIKE - and here’s why (with caveats). You may be told you need a guide for the hike to Boiling Lake: to find and follow the trail, or for reasons of safety, or because it’s compulsory. None of these is valid - and with the price running at c. $75 per person even in a group, it’s worth making an informed decision. The trail is very easy to follow. It is a single track through forest for the majority of the way, with literally no opportunity to turn off the route at all. There is a short section through the Valley of Desolation that requires you to use your eyes to follow the trail but as long as at least one of them works, you cannot get lost. That’s not to say it’s an easy trail to walk, as there are a fair few ups and downs and perhaps 60m total of potential scrambling, but it’s certainly dead easy to follow. You do not need a guide to find and follow the trail. It is also a safe trail. There are some scare stores about distinguishing between scalding or cool streams or pools - but the hot ones have giveaways such as steaming or indeed feeling warm. If you use your common sense, and wear stout boots, you’ll be absolutely fine. It is also worth considering whether the guides could do much for your safety anyway - given none of them carry rucksacks, they clearly don’t carry medical kits, and I seriously doubt any of them are trained first aiders. You do not need a guide to be safe on this trail as long as you take your own common-sense precautions: wear boots, take wet weather gear, carry water and snacks, perhaps take a hiking pole, take a med kit, download the AllTrails map beforehand and have a look at it to plan segments and timings, let people know where you are going. If you are used to hiking in the much bigger, much more dangerous, and much more serious mountainous conditions of Europe or North America, you’ll be absolutely fine. At the time of writing, it is absolutely not compulsory or ‘the law’ to take a guide. Nor are there plans to make it so. The guides will tell you this, but ask yourself: if it’s the law, how come the guides are unlicensed? How come the officials who check your site permits at the entrance don’t ask whether you have a guide? How come the official websites and tourist office don’t agree with them? And why would it be compulsory for this one hike but not for any others on the whole island (including the much more challenging Waitukubuli Trail)? It is not compulsory to take a guide. All that said, you may still want to take a guide, to show you interesting things, answer questions, and explain the geology and nature to you. There is absolutely merit in this. But it should be an informed choice made for your own reasons. That said - great hike and well-worth doing. Stunning scenery and fascinating geological points of interest.
Mike C — Google review
A tough but epic hike! I did it solo, but I’d recommend a guide unless you’re confident in your survival skills. The first half is super muddy but manageable, while the second half is steep, slippery, and demanding—proper hiking shoes are a must! 🥾 Nike sneakers won’t cut it—your feet will be soaked within a kilometer. Took me 3hrs 5mins for 10km (996 HM) in one direction and starting below Trafalgar Falls. No internet connection about halfway to the lake, so if you twist an ankle, you won’t be able to call for help. A local guide told me that hiring a guide may soon be mandatory, so if you want to experience this wild beauty with fewer tourists, now’s the time—before the cable car arrives! 🚠 Other than that, the place is breathtaking! Safety first!

Boiling Lake on the island of Dominica is a place well worth visiting. The hike to it is an experience in itself, but it’s physically demanding, with steep elevations, and the return trip can be exhausting. It’s important to consider your fitness level before setting out. I chose to go with a local guide, and I recommend it to others – not only for safety reasons but also for the interesting insights about the area and to support the local community. If you enjoy adventure, Boiling Lake won’t disappoint. The view of the lake and the surrounding nature is definitely worth the effort!

Nestled in the serene rainforest of Morne Trois Piton National Park, Emerald Pool is a tranquil natural pool adorned with a rocky ledge and a small waterfall. The allure of this hidden gem lies in the adventure of tracking through the jungle to stumble upon its captivating beauty. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Rosalie, Coco Cascades, Flocky Falls, and Morgan River Falls.
Emerald Pool in Dominica is a big Cruise Excursion destination for the Big 3 (Norwegian, Carnival and Royal Caribbean). I came here on a carnival cruise and enjoyed the drive from the cruise port , the walk through rainforest scenery to get to the pool and then the waterfall and emerald pool destination. I hope your time here is a positive experience and I am sure Dominica has lots of spots like this all over the island :)

Emerald Pool is one of the island’s true natural treasures. The site is absolutely beautiful, with lush surroundings and crystal-clear water that make the short hike totally worth it. It’s well maintained, and the path is designed for a self-guided tour, with informative signs that make the experience smooth and enjoyable. That said, it’s a bit bittersweet to know that such a national beauty has been privatized. Places like this should ideally benefit the government and the local people directly, not just private companies. Still, the care taken to preserve and showcase the site is undeniable. The water is stunning!! though definitely on the cold side! At the end of the visit, you’ll find several small shops, but most of them offer the same limited selection of items, and prices are on the higher end! something to keep in mind if you’re hoping to shop for souvenirs.

Beautiful view, well worth the short hike and the hundred or so stairs you'll need to climb. My understanding is that it will rain more days than not (it did when we visited), so bring rain gear. May be challenging for those with mobility issues.
Eric S — Google review
Amazing site in Dominica. You can enter with a day pass or 7-day pass which is valid at other sites (like the Indian River). The water is cool and fresh. The path to the pool has been made way more accessible than in prior years but those with mobility issues might struggle.

The Emerald Pool is absolutely magical! What a beautiful waterfall and such a peaceful spot. I visited at the beginning of October, during the off-season, and it was perfect — hardly any tourists around and no cruise ships in port. I actually had the entire place to myself, which made it even more special. The walk to the pool takes about 10 minutes. The path is well-paved with steps, so it’s not difficult at all. There are restrooms located near the entrance where you get your ticket. Definitely a must-do when visiting Dominica!
Nichole P — Google review
Excepcional! Thea road is'ts perfect! And the environment is just amazing, the view points are worthy!! I'll come back

What a beautiful experience! Not to mention the Banana Leaf restaurant serving up great local bites! But back to Emerald Pool... I wish I could visit everyday! The water is a clear bluish green and the waterfall is breath taking. The cove next to the deeper pool is spectacular. One thing I thought was cool were the orange crabs seemingly hiding and basking in the sun. The short hike to the falls and pool was perfection because of the canopy coverage. This was just a spectacular moment of our trip. Emerald Pool is a must see in DA

Titou Gorge is a narrow and picturesque swimming destination located at the edge of Morne Trois Pitons National Park in Laudat, which serves as the gateway to the park. The gorge features high cliff walls through which light filters down, creating a stunning atmosphere. It is nestled in the Dominican rainforest, an area known for its cool and misty environment due to heavy rainfall.
Titou Gorge is a natural wonder. Just beware that the only chance to see the waterfall, is to plunge into the cold water and swim upriver through the Gorge!
Repi N — Google review
Titou Gorge was a highlight in Dominica! The water is cold but refreshing, and swimming through the narrow gorge surrounded by lush greenery is unforgettable. Not too crowded, fun, and the waterfall at the end makes it worth the trip. Dominica truly surprised me in the best way!
Marta S — Google review
I stopped at Titou Gorge after visiting Trafalgar Falls, and I’m so glad I did — it’s absolutely breathtaking! The water is cold and crystal clear. We didn’t go all the way to the waterfall, but we went far enough back to see it deep in the canyon. Fun fact: a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed here! They charge you for a life vest that is required but it's only like $5 us and there was no charge to actually get into the gorge, just the rental of the Life fest. There are warm water fountains coming out as you walk in so if you're coming out of the gorge and you're cold you can go under there and warm up. It’s such a unique and amazing spot. I visited during the off-season at the beginning of October, and there was only one other person there besides me, so I basically had the whole place to myself. Definitely recommend a visit if you’re in Dominica!

Very nice excursion...they gave u lifejacket for extra pay...everytime they are taking care of u. They can take pictures...water is not cold and they have fitting room if need it. You can see very nice places all the way.
Lourdes C — Google review
So so incredible. Amazing water attraction. Be sure to get a guide to traverse this attraction, it is beautiful but can be dangerous. Tube rentals and life jackets costed 10EC each and rental of a waterproof phone case was 10 EC. The tour guide is tipped at your discretion but they work hard so please leave a tip !
Arnelle A — Google review
Really cool experience! Safer with a guide if you struggle with balance in rough waters. Doable without the guide. The guide provides a better experience with some history and fun facts along with tons of photos and videos of your experience.
Carissa S — Google review
100% worth the swim. We went as an excursion with Jungle Bay, and we were blown away. The whole activity takes around 30 minutes but the views from inside the gorge are amazing. I ended up using the phone case that I rented (5 USD) for photos. Must see attraction.
Adrian S — Google review
Great fun for everyone. They have everything you need. Yes, you need your own swimsuit. Short swim in to see the falls. It is not a cave, nothing to freak out about, the kids will love it. 100% safe.

Roseau, the charming capital of Dominica, is a great place to spend a day exploring and arranging whale-watching tours. However, the island's natural wonders steal the spotlight with accommodations spread along the coast. Visitors often rent cars or join tours to explore further. The Roseau Valley, conveniently close to the capital, serves as an access point for attractions such as Morne Trois Pitons National Park and offers excellent hotel options.

Champagne Reef in Dominica is a popular spot located in the Soufriere-Scott's Head Marine Reserve. The area is protected, allowing visitors to enjoy the picturesque Caribbean nature and extensive marine life. Named for the gas bubbles rising from volcanic thermal springs on the ocean floor, this reef offers a unique diving and snorkeling experience. The golden-colored reef and bubbling waters create an illusion of diving into a glass of champagne.
Beautiful beach and gentle shore dive/snorkle. Easy shore access to the famed bubble reef caused by the dormant volcano. Lots of marine life typical of the Carribean. Drinks, snacks, and gear/guides available. Park on the shoulder of the road and walk down the old concrete steps to get to the beach. Awesome place! 5 ECD access fee per person.
Jeremy S — Google review
Rocky beach 15 min drive from Roseau known for bubbling water. $EC entrance fee. Small bar and limited food options.. Rocky shore means water shoes would be beneficial. Easy snorkeling off beach, but to see the bubbling water you need to swim further out.
Vanessa G — Google review
The reef is OK to visit, cost us 10euros per person return in a taxi from the harbour. Take your own snorkel gear and it's just the cost of the entry to get in. The beach is very stoney. Once in the water swim to the left and see the coral around the big rock. Benches and a small shop onsite, a few changing cubicles and plenty of people to take you diving or rent you gear.
Ian D — Google review
Really special place, not just the bubbles, but also a lot of special marine lifes here, I saw at least five small rays on the sandy seabed and some Sea slugs that I've never see before ( I dive and snorkel quite a lot). Many fish, huge group of bluestripe snapper, my friend saw a huge sea turtle , although no beautiful corals, but I can still snorkel here for whole day by seeing the bubbles and creatures underwater 🫧 🫧 🫧.
Jeams Y — Google review
Interesting, but not worth the distance if you have little time on the island. The beach is not good to hang out and the only attraction is the reef.
Ricardo G — Google review
For snorkeling it's remarkable place. If you are coming by car, parking is arranged along the main road. Once you find the beach, reefs for snorkeling are all along the southern part (left if you are facing the sea). You can spend there hours. I was there roughly 2 hours before sunset and the beach was almost empty. I highly recommend shoes for swimming/diving because the stone really painful to walk on.
Martin R — Google review
Not what they make it seem. The "beach" is nothing but rocks and the hike to see the bubbles is not worth the trip. I didn't even waste time taking pictures.
Tim E — Google review
Highly recommend this place. The name champagne came from the phenomenon that tiny bubbles comes out from the bottom of the seat, which was cool to see that! Also the fish between the two sea rock has beautiful reefs and fish. If you don’t have snorkeling gears, no problem , It’s only 15 ec to rent, or shall I say donation to make. The rock beach reminds me of French Riviera’s rock beach, except here the rocks are bigger.

Cabrits National Park, located near the town of Portsmouth, is a picturesque area that encompasses swamps, coral reefs, and wetlands. The park is renowned for being home to Fort Shirley, an 18th-century British garrison with breathtaking views of Prince Rupert Bay and the remains of a volcanic crater on Dominica's northwest coast.
Very interesting fort and nature area, with well tended paths for hiking. Be sure to check out the Douglas battery, not just the main restored area of the fort. It's in disrepair, with vines and trees covering the masonry structures. Not often you see a 250 year old cannon lying on the ground, with the British crown seal on it! Really amazing, eerie sights. Highly recommended!
Brian S — Google review
Fantastic national park on a peninsula consisting of two peaks. Great for hiking, several points of historical interest (Fort Shirley and the east and west batteries, as well as the ruins of the commandant’s residence and other buildings). Lovely nature. Beautiful views. And a cafe at the parking area. Highly recommended as a highlight of Dominica, where nature and views are plentiful but well-preserved historical sites are often not.
Mike C — Google review
The restored Fort Shirley is very nice and a good history lesson. The short hike to the Commanders Quarters was worth it, seeing the forest absorbing the ruins. Take a guess what the golf ball sized spheres are in the lower barrel ceiling storage area. Pretty cool.
Hillary S — Google review
We had a wonderful private tour of the fort, learned a lot. Fort has been restored and is well worth the visit

Beautiful and historic location to bring the family on a DA vacation or for locals to reminisce on Dominica’s past. Well maintained, very walkable, and a tremendous view.

Middleham Falls is a stunning 200-ft waterfall located in Morne Trois Pitons National Park, Dominica. It is easily accessible through a moderate hike that takes you through lush rainforest vegetation. The trail leads to the magnificent falls where water cascades into a refreshing pool below, inviting visitors for a swim. This hidden gem is one of the best-kept secrets on the island and offers an exhilarating experience as you cross rivers and hike through jungle terrain to reach it.
About a 45 min hike from the parking area. I would not say this is an easy hike but it is definitely not extremely difficult if you are slightly active. The hike is well worth it once you reach the falls!
Joe H — Google review
Incredible hike! Easy for regular hikers, a good beginner climb for new hikers tjay are looking got a mini challenge. It takes anywhere from 1.5hrs to 2.5hrs total. When wet, the climb down to the falls is a bit precarious, so it is recommended to wear good hiking shoes. The view of the falls is well worth the trip!
Carissa S — Google review
Very beautiful trail. The water fall is the tallest we saw in the island. However, you can only view it from a platform.
JD T — Google review
Nice hike in, roughly 45mins but not difficult. If you have knee/ankle issues take it slowly as the ground is muddy/slippy and with lots of steps. The bird songs are beautiful as you hike and there are crabs and lizards around. The waterfall itself is beautiful,.one to the nicest we have ever seen with a nice pool you can swim in.
Ciara W — Google review
The hike in to the falls is moderate, but the last descent down to the falls is very slippery. Use caution and wear good hiking shoes. The falls are beautiful! Definitely worth the effort.
Brad W — Google review
It’s a medium difficulty hike overall, but with some boulders to climb over towards the end. Worth it though!
Özge T — Google review
Well maintained trail through mature rainforest with impressive buttress roots on huge kapok trees. Many birds including Jaco parrots, also saw land crabs and lizards. Note: at gazebo trail junction turn left to go down to falls.
Julie E — Google review
The Middleham Falls are really a magic place! It's not just the Falls, it's the way to get there. It's amazing to step up the hill and having all these stunning and different views over the jungle. You got to be a bit trained to do the way with the countless wooden steps, but it's worth it!

Bodies of Water
Indian River in Dominica is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean films. It's the widest river on the island, offering serene boat rides through mangrove forests where you can spot egrets, herons, crabs, turtles, and iguanas. The river is also famous for being Tia Dalma's jungle hideaway in the movies.
Very lovely visit and very quiet in early October. Was told to park in the tourist lot on the left just before the main building, restrooms available. Was asked to pay EC$120 for a single trip (with group) but ended up paying EC$100. Not sure if that's typical but seemed like a lot. Floating down the river was calm, peaceful and hot. First visited Calypso's Voodoo House and then moved on down the river to a small bar where you can order the famous Rum Punch for EC$20. A small flower garden there too. Saw hummingbirds, white crabs, yellow crown night heron, along with bwa mang trees. My guide was Dinosaur, very kind and easygoing. Great trip, just not sure it's worth $35 USD for an hour and a half.

A trip on the Indian river is highly recommendable and you will have a lovely time on the water in an amazing jungle. It’s definitely worth the trip and the money! Once you get there, you would need to buy a government pass at the gas station to be allowed on the river. In addition to that, you would need to pay for the boat ride. Be aware, lots of the men offering a boat ride are intoxicated and quite aggressive in selling their services. Just talk with them and you will smell whether or not they are intoxicated. We found in the end a nice guy to take the trip with (he goes by the name ‘Superman’ ;-)) and we enjoyed ourselves a lot! Have fun!

Azah was a great guide. Along with the river, he took us on many hikes. He kept all 6 of us prepared and safe on some challenging hikes. He knows the ecology and history of the island. It's worth it to hire a trained guide like Azah, especially for your first visit. Some trails are not well marked, and a guide really is necessary.

Surprisingly interesting boat trip up the lovely Indian River with Aza, a guide recommended to us and I know why. He was knowledgable and had a great eye for the abundant wildlife we saw: several species of birds, three species of crabs, mating iguanas and more species of plants than we could count. The trip exceeded our expectations and was a lovely, quiet, yet very interesting way to spend a couple of hours.

Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a stunning natural reserve in Dominica, featuring lush parkland with a mountain boasting three peaks, hiking trails, geysers, mud ponds, and a bubbling lake. Encompassing much of the island's mountainous interior, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to primordial rainforest with diverse flora like giant ferns and wild orchids.
Still one of the best hikes. It's pretty challenging but equally rewarding to be at one with so much nature. With determination, almost anyone can make this walk despite their level of fitness. And then the swim up the titou gorge is a must after that walk.

Amazing!! There is some rough terrain but so worth the hike. We had a 10 hour day hiking and it was unforgettable! Prepare to be hot & wet! Must put this on your TO DO list while in Dominica!

Morne Trois Pitons was the first national park to be established in Dominica (in 1975). In 1997 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At an elevation of 762 meters, Freshwater Lake in the park is the largest lake on Dominica and the source of the Roseau River. The lake sits in an old volcanic crater at the foot of Morne Macaque.

Nestled in the heart of Roseau, Dominica Botanical Gardens is a sprawling 40-acre expanse known for its lush tropical flora and fauna. Established in 1890 with the assistance of botanists from Kew Gardens, it offers a delightful retreat for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can marvel at the Sisserou parrot, witness a variety of imported trees, and encounter over 50 species of indigenous plants seamlessly integrated across two distinct sections.
Visited Dominica Botanical Gardens in 10/24/25. The ground was a little muddy & there was a big Dominican cultural festival going on so it was good to see some locals and be able to sample lots of the local cuisine and juices . This is a free attraction to don’t especially but it is a nice place to graze and be surrounded by pretty flowers .

Wasn’t much of a Gardens. Was more like a park. Was sort of kept up. Few flowers or special plants. Had some old beautiful trees. Interesting walk up from the Cruise ship pier. No ticket required.

Large variety of trees and flowering shrubs from Caribbean and elsewhere. Some are labelled. While not highly manicured or a fancy design with formal gardens or statues and fountains, this is a free admission nice place to relax and explore. While uncrowded and spacious, we saw a good number of people enjoying the park, Moms with kids sitting on benches (wish I could sit here with my dear Mom), people recreating, etc. We enjoyed this park and checking out the fine trees young and old. It’s easy to walk here from your lodging in downtown Roseau. Dominica thanks for providing this nice garden.

This was an excursion from the cruise terminal in Roseau Dominica. the drive there was very interesting with busy narrow roads and some steep hills. Lovely trees and a parrot compound but not much of gardens with flowers, more of a park than anything, and of course the bus under a tree. The view from the Morne Bruce above was beautiful as was the view from the cruise ship.

We enjoyed the trail from the botanical gardens up to the top of Morne Bruce known as Jack’s Walk. See scan code in pics.Beautiful view of the whole city and ocean. Walk took us about 30 mins. with lots of stops to rest as it is quite steep ( we are in our 60’s ).

There are a few sections where you have to hold on to a rope to move forward, but with soil erosion, some poles have fallen, making these sections a little more technical. Islandstyle Fishing Whale Watching and Charters in Dominica offers prime whale watching opportunities as the island is a year-round home to sperm whales, along with other species like humpback and pilot whales. Captain Jerry, known for his expertise in finding whales and fish, is highly recommended for his extensive knowledge of Dominica both at sea and on land. Visitors have had memorable experiences fishing with him, often being impressed by his professionalism and ability to spot marine life such as whales during their trips.
We had a great time fishing with Captain Jerry! My family of 6 were staying in the north and were able to get picked up in Portsmouth. Jerry’s knowledge of the island and ability to get on fish are second to none in Dominica. We highly recommend!

Captain Jerry is the absolute best boat captain, and definitely the whale whisperer. He can certainly find the whales and the fish. His knowledge of Dominica is second to none, both on the sea, and on the island. I have been on several trips with Jerry, ranging from an afternoon on the water, to much longer trips, and I'm always amazed at his level of experience and knowledge. If you want personalized service, on a great boat, with an amazing captain and crew, definitely choose Island Style Fishing and Jerry Daway.

Jerry and Jaden are amazing and lovely and we saw two gorgeous whales and dolphins jumping in the wake of the boat. We also saw turtles and went swimming in hot springs. A+!!! 10 out of 10.
Andrew S — Google review
SUCH an INCREDIBLE experience with Jerry and his crew swimming with Sperm whales. We only had a day unfortunately and we were super lucky to pick the best team out there because Jerry worked tirelessly to find us a whale. After 2.5 hours on the water we were able to jump in with a juvenile TWICE. The young whale was very curious and swam right up to us both times and the second time dove down and pooped at us on the way down :) Jerry uses a hydrophone to detect where the whales are and be able to pinpoint their location. Such an incredible once in a lifetime experience. I HIGHLY recommend this operation!
Lina R — Google review
We spent $1400 to go swim with the sperm whales and all we did was drive up and down the island! The whales were further out and the captain did not want to take us out and even if we couldn’t find sperm whales he could have at least taken us snorkeling at Scott’s head since we were right there! He wasn’t friendly and didn’t seem like he had experience especially since everyone we spoke to on the island saw sperm whales! Plus he cut our tour short by two hours! So upset we came all the way here and didn’t see anything! A waste of $1400 and not worth your time! I definitely do not recommend! Plus saw his boat in harbor for the following four days we were at Fort Young so he definitely doesn’t have whale experience!
Riley L — Google review
My family had THE most amazing afternoon with Jerry and his son Jayden on their boat. They were kind and respectful and showed us their beautiful island. We saw whales, dolphins, turtles and were taken all around the island. We felt safe and had a beautiful time. I highly recommend using this company.

Champagne Beach, located on the southwestern coastline of Dominica near Scotts Head Village, is a unique destination offering a fascinating underwater experience. This stone beach is renowned for its coral reef snorkeling and swimming in underwater thermal springs. Nestled within the Soufriere-Scott's Head Marine Reserve, this protected area remains unspoiled by human activity, providing visitors with a pristine Caribbean experience. The beach features black volcanic rock formations and palm trees along the shoreline, creating a picturesque landscape.
Champagne Beach offers peaceful relaxation with sun loungers under palm trees by the Caribbean Sea. There are two dive stations with kiosks. Entrance costs 5 XCD or 2 USD per day. The ticket also allows you to climb Scott's Head. I took the bus from Roseau (3–5 XCD each way) and sunbathed and swam barefoot in my swimsuit. If swimming is not recommended due to algae, a wetsuit is recommended for these days. You'll meet many tourists of all backgrounds there.
Private W — Google review
I visited Champaigne Beach at the beginning of October, stopping by after Scott’s Head Point. I had heard this beach has amazing snorkeling, but unfortunately the waves were too rough, so no snorkeling was possible that day. Parking is along the side of the road, and you take stairs down to the beach. The beach itself has a cool little vibe, but everything was closed when I visited. Still worth a quick stop if you’re in the area, but check conditions for snorkeling first!
Nichole P — Google review
We came here as part of an excursion and it was great. The champagne bubbles effect is wonderful to look at, and it's a very nice snorkeling spot, where you can see lots of marine life (underwater photos still on my action cam). Totally worth it!
André M — Google review
Unique spot to go snorkeling. it was a little rough getting in and out of the water as there are lots of rocks on the beach at the waters edge. However, the guides were very helpful in getting you in and out of the water and for pointing out the wildlife such as the stingrays in the water. The bubbles were amazing and very warm something you won't see anywhere else. but for the length of time it took getting in and out of the water and swimming to the actual champagne portion of the water, not sure it was worth it. The excursion included a drink on the beach and the weather was very accommodating, hot and sunny. There are 2 clean port-a-potties at the top of the hill. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with mobility issues just getting down the steps to the beach was an issue.
Aaron A — Google review
Did this with our 8 year old and 10 year old and they loved it. Need to go a little past the jetty of rocks to see the bubbles. Very rocky beach, so bring proper footwear to walk on the rocks. Once you are in the water, no issue with the rocks. Decent amount of coral and fish, which the kids loved, but the bubbles are the real attraction here.
Edward S — Google review
One of my favorite snorkeling spots!! The thermal bubbles or “champagne effect” were breathtaking. Unique coral/reefs and teaming with life. Owners of the little beach bar are so welcoming and friendly. The only downside are all the rocks! In response to past reviews there are currently 2 port-a-potties at the top of the hill now.
Kristin G — Google review
Champagne Beach itself is rocky. There is no bathroom and the changing area is fairly primitive. That said, Donny is great!! It was overcast & sprinkling the day we went out, but Donny was fun and knowledgeable. The reef was beautiful and there was a lot of sea life! Also- try the spiced rum!! (4 stars for lack of bathroom) This is a fun, laid back adventure!

Nestled in the northern part of Dominica, Batibou Beach stands out as one of the island's most stunning bays. Accessible via a steep road near Calibishie, this golden sand beach is adorned with swaying palm trees and kissed by gentle waves from the Caribbean Sea. Despite past security concerns, a guard now ensures visitors' safety.
What a place! The beach is absolutely stunning and clean. The fee is used to keep the beach as beautiful as it is. The highlight though is Irma, who cooks absolutely delicious food right on the beach and fights for the beach to stay as it is. We sincerely hope the beach doesn't get destroyed by mass tourism and keeps its natural beauty. Thank you for fighting for it!
Luisa M — Google review
One of the best culinary experiences in Dominica. The Batibou beach is beautiful with few visitors especially in the morning. You have to pay a 5 US$ per person entrance fee which is used for cleaning the beach and maintenance (the area is private land). Around midday they open the grill bar where they prepare on the spot some awsome rich tasting food (be prepared for some wait preparation time). Don't miss out the homemade ice-cream!
George M — Google review
Wow! We came to Batibou expecting to only spend an hour here before going to a restaurant to eat. We ended up staying for 5 hours. A short drive down a rough 4x4 road allows you to park right on the beach. The clearly marked fee of $5 usd can be paid to the security people where you park. They provide a rundown of safety considerations like where to swim, and to avoid falling coconuts. Apparently it was a super busy day on Easter Sunday so we shared the beach with about 12 other people LOL. How is this beach so uncrowded? The people maintaining the beach and the women working the beach bar are all super friendly, and they do a great job maintaining the beach. Incredible beach, I'm not sure it can get much better. Clear water, great sand, shady palm trees. To top it all off, the food is good too. They cook using a coconut husk fire, which provides the ribs, fish, and pork with a great sweet Smokey flavor. It's served on wooden plates and banana leaves. They also have a good selection of drinks and rum concoctions. This was a great way to spend our last full day in Dominica.
Scott R — Google review
The most beautiful beach I have ever been too!!!!! The restaurant and bar were never open. It's a $5 American dollar charge per person. If you park at the top it's about a 15min walk on rocks or if your car can make it down I recommend that. They have a shower and the toilets were pretty nasty.
Nina — Google review
Beautiful beach with an awesome meal ! You can access by car to the front, don’t need to park your car on the top of the hill. The access of the beach is about 13 EC per pers because is a private territory, but believe be, it worth it ! You can eat on the beach, freely with your own food or at the restaurant of the beach.
Mathilde D — Google review
This is a beautiful beach and you can drive down if you have a off road capable vehicle. It's $5 each for the day. I loved the cheeky sisters beach BBQ and cocktails. They may not rock up until after 12 but lovely mix of food with smoky baby ribs or fish is worth waiting for. Thank you ladies 😊
Stephen P — Google review
In my opinion, this is the nicest beach on the island. It's secluded, with crystal clear clam water and a palm trees shade the beach. A few things to note. It costs $5 per person to access the road to go to the beach, you can drive down or you can walk, but you might as well drive since you have to pay regardless. Like most Caribbean island beaches at the moment, Batibou is covered in sargassum, no big deal, you just need to hop over it to get into the water. One issue though, is there is some still flowing in the water and small jellyfish like organisms do live in them so you may feel a light sting or two while you swim but its harmless and honestly, the beach is worth it.
AJM — Google review
This is just a really nice beach. When I went there was not any food there, just an attendant that would crack open a coconut for you to drink. You must walk about a mile down a dirt road or have a vehicle that can handle the drive.

Morne Bruce is a small mountain located on the southeast edge of Roseau, Dominica's capital. It rises from the backside of the Dominica Botanical Gardens and offers a beautiful panoramic view of Roseau and the western coastline, with steep verdant slopes meeting the Caribbean Sea. Visitors can reach the top by taking a relatively short but steep walk or by car for those unable to hike.

Fort Shirley, a captivating historical site nestled within the stunning Cabrits National Park in Dominica, offers visitors a glimpse into the island's colonial past. This 18th-century fortification once served as a garrison for British troops and played a significant role during various conflicts between Britain and France. Today, it stands beautifully restored, inviting travelers to explore its remnants while soaking in breathtaking views of Portsmouth Bay. The surrounding area is rich with natural beauty and adventure opportunities.
Fantastic and well-preserved fort in a national park - highly recommended!

If you like history this is a nice place. The fort itself has been restored beautifuly, but we love it mainly for the entire surroundings with plenty of paths to Explorer, ruins and nice views on Dominica and the sea

This is within the National park well worth a visit. Several interesting buildings with great views across the bay. When we visitee it was quiet. There is a function room/bar but it was quiet when we attended.

Fort Shirley is an absolute must-visit in Dominica! The historic site is beautifully restored and offers a fascinating glimpse into the island’s rich past. Walking through the fort, you really get a sense of the history and the role it played in the Caribbean. The views are breathtaking — overlooking Prince Rupert Bay and the surrounding hills, it’s one of the best vantage points on the island. The grounds are well kept, and there are plenty of spots to stop, take photos, and simply enjoy the scenery. What makes the experience even better is the tranquil atmosphere. Unlike many tourist attractions, Fort Shirley feels peaceful and authentic, allowing you to explore at your own pace. Whether you’re a history lover, a nature enthusiast, or just looking for a stunning place to spend a few hours, Fort Shirley will not disappoint. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Dominica!

Looks more modern building than a fort. The informational signs appears to have more history than the actual buildings. I would still recommend visiting, you get a nice water view. A cute cat, probably a descendant of one of the former fort inhabitant. Some pretty birds, a lot of lizzards, beautiful trees, and thankfully on my way out, I saw one of the signs that said there are snakes around. I walked briskly outside.

Very nice place for easy hike with interesting historical and biological facts. Some view points were covered by high trees, so there was no view at all, but that's the nature.

A Great historical site that dates back to the days of Christopher Columbus. Well taken care of and just a great place to visit. Cost per day entry is $5 U.S. per person or $12 for a weeks pass which gets you into all the other National Parks including the famous Trafalgar Falls.

Jacko Falls is a stunning waterfall located near Pont Casse in Dominica. The journey to reach the falls involves navigating through the jungle, adding an element of adventure to the experience. The road leading to the falls is long and winding, but the breathtaking natural beauty makes it worth the trip. Visitors are advised to wear water shoes and comfortable clothing for a safe and enjoyable time at this wheelchair-friendly attraction.
Beautiful waterfall! The journey there from Roseau isnt too long but the roads are very bendy as you go up in the hills but it's totally worth it. The water is quite cold but not freezing. You get use to it once you're in. The rocks inside can be quite sharpish but it's cool if you take your time. I felt energized after visiting
Martell C — Google review
It's worth the entry fee if you plan on spending a longer time swimming here. It's a very short walk to the falls, with several steps. Minimal roadside parking
Kris W — Google review
Jacko Falls is another beautiful waterfall in Dominica! It’s super close and an easy, short walk with just a few stairs up and down. The waterfall itself is stunning, and while the water is definitely cold, it’s still such a refreshing and peaceful spot to visit. This was the third waterfall I stopped at during my time in Dominica, and I enjoyed every single one. Each has its own charm, and Jacko Falls is no exception — definitely worth the quick stop only $5 USD to get in!

Beautiful. Concrete steps and railings...about 76 steps down to falls. Large flat uneven rocks from bottom of stairs about 25' to the falls. You can swim. Not an easy ingress or egress, but refreshing. Worth the effort! Recommended.

Very beautiful waterfall just a few minutes walk from the roadside. The falls are private so you must pay a fee to enter, believe it was EC$7. Follow a set of steep steps down to the falls, super easy and quick. A bit rocky at the bottom but clear gorgeous water.

Pointe Baptiste Chocolate Factory is a delightful gem located near the serene Pointe Baptiste Beach on Dominica's northeastern coast. This area, once frequented by pirates, now offers a peaceful escape with its stunning black and white sand beaches framed by striking red sandstone cliffs. Visitors can enjoy shallow waters ideal for families while soaking in breathtaking views of nearby islands like Guadeloupe and Marie Galante.
Super cool, short tour around the premises by real chocolate experts. If you ever wondered, what the processes of creating chocolate and wine have in common, you have arrived at the right place. Next to cocoa beans, we were able to try other fruits that were randomly growing in the gardens. Bought some chocolate and chocolates fruits here that taste too amazing!! -> Note: We are Swiss so we like to think that we know what good chocolate tastes like ;)
Schach M — Google review
I wanted to visit this small "factory" as I was very interested in finding out how chocolate is made! They charge 20EC per group for a brief 10 minute tour. Very reasonable if there's ten of you but as a solo traveller it seemed a little steep. I felt that the lady showing me round was rather bored of saying the same thing, but she was precise and informative. The choclate bars for sale are expensive at 20EC (£5.80). However I can appreciate why, due to the lengthy process involved and it is good chocolate. I would have bought more if the entrance fee hadn't been so much!
Nuni R — Google review
A must -visit for Chocolate Lovers! I learned so much from Julia, the owner of the chocolate factory. After a quick tour of the facility, you’ll get to taste their products—not just chocolate bars, but also chocolate herbal tea and even vinegar made from cocoa! Yes, they use every part of the cocoa bean to minimize waste, which speaks to Julia and her partner’s commitment to sustainability. Don’t hesitate to ask questions—Julia is incredibly knowledgeable about the chocolate-making process and the industry as a whole. The visit costs 20 EC, and each chocolate bar is also 20 EC. Payment by card is accepted. I’ve seen some reviews mentioning the prices, but instead of focusing on getting the cheapest option, think about the quality and craftsmanship behind each product. This factory operates on a small scale to protect forests and wildlife, follows environmentally friendly, low-waste practices, and uses 100% natural ingredients in their flavored chocolates. The biggest challenge? Choosing which chocolates to take home! My favorite was the 70% dark chocolate with fleur de sel from Brittany, France—a true testament to quality! Highly recommend this experience for anyone who appreciates fine chocolate and ethical production.
Marion A — Google review
Really wonderful experience! Very inexpensive for 2 of us to tour the facility and chocolate making process, as well as sample as much chocolate as we wanted. Very cool to see the process from fermentation to drying to mixing with sugar and flavorings. I imagine the tours are seasonally dependent - in late March they were producing lots of chocolate! Locally sourced chocolate is typically expensive, I felt that the prices here were completely reasonable considering how locally sourced all of the ingredients were. This is a must try while in Dominica, especially if you're a chocolate lover!
Christopher R — Google review
Great spot and toured then bought chocolate. Family concern with settled French generations running it with local help. Fascinating and informative. What’s not to like after a trek into wilds of a beautiful Caribbean island nation and sampling local fare.

Great pit stop on the way to the airport. We picked up a ton of the chocolate bars to sample each flavor. Great place
A H — Google review
The European owner/chocolate maker was only interested in acknowledging the huge cruise ship tour groups. He saw me, and glanced quickly, then looked away. No hello, or any greeting whatsoever. Not at all welcoming for the independent traveller. Shame. Anyways, sampled sorts I presumed I might like. Bought cocoa powder, mint chocolate, and milk chocolate. Extremely expensive for what it is. $45 EC. Almost like Fortnum & Mason prices. Not the best chocolate I have tried, but pleasant enough. The flavours of the variants I tried shone through. Unfortunately did not see the actual making, but did see the steps of how its processed, and the workshop. A very long journey by local buses to get to Calabishi, and then a fair walk.
Pied P — Google review
I've had chocolate from different countries all over the world, but THIS chocolate was some of the best I have ever had abroad! The lemongrass chocolate bar was divine, and the chocolate covered dried fruits definitely make great souvenirs (I got the chocolate covered ginger). The lady who was working there was very friendly, letting us try all the chocolates and gave us a small tour of the factory. The owner was also there and talked to us. Definitely would recommend stopping by, especially if you have a sweet tooth!

Hiking area
Spanny Falls is located just off Dr. Nicholas Liverpool Highway, making it easily accessible by taxi from Portsmouth or Roseau. The trailhead is to the left of a store and leads to the falls, which are known for their clear and refreshing water, perfect for a quick swim. Visitors can also opt for an extended hike to Penrice Falls with the help of ropes to navigate the terrain. A small fee is required for entry at a yellow shop near the falls.
Lovely falls that are easy to reach. Check in with the yellow shop first as you must pay a few dollars to enter. Then drive down the skinny road to reach a small parking lot. From there just a few minutes walk on a marked path until you reach the falls. Crisp clear and refreshing water, especially for a quick swim. Really enjoyed this spot!
Jessica K — Google review
The day we went, it was raining and a bit chilly, so we didn't swim, but should have loved to on a warmer day. We parked in front of Spanny's shop and paid $5/ person. We could've driven in and parked in the small parking lot, but preferred to walk- it's only about a 15 min walk from his shop. The walk in is really pretty, lots of flowers and beautiful greens. Several stairs take you down to the Falls, where there's a nice viewing area, and it's easy to get down into the water. We were lucky- there was only 1 family when we arrived. On our way out though, 2 for tour busses arrived, which would've been a miserable experience to be a part of. I would suggest checking Cruise ship port days and scheduling your most popular destinations for small ship days.
Kris W — Google review
A short 10 min walk to the falls. If you travel by van, it can go in a bit and then you start the walk. Be sure to purchase tickets at the shop on the main road. If you are lucky enough to be the only folks there, it's a beautiful place for a bath.

Spanny Falls was a fun little hike. We did the extended hike to Penrice Falls and as long as you were appropriate footwear and don't mind using the rope to get up the embankment I suggest going to see it as well. Also stop in and see Linda at the little gift shop! She was the sweetest lady and had a ton of suggestions for things for us to do around the island!

Really beautiful waterfall. A 3min drive off the main road up a single lane driveway. Parking for around 5-8 vehicles. An easy walk of less than 5mins to get to the falls. Water was clear. I was told I had to pay EC$10 to enter because to access the falls I had to use private land. Something i was unaware of before hand.

Don’t be like the folks we encountered wearing sandals and flip-flops, tripping and sliding out of their footwear. This is a good hike with a rock-heavy, slick trail. Bridges also tend to be slippery. Good elevation gains, fantastic views, and a breathtaking destination. Always prepare for rain and be mindful of expected trail & weather conditions. The streams can rise extremely fast and flow over the trail. Some trashy folks had left litter at the viewing platform that we cleaned up - just pack out what you pack in! The viewing platform was in disrepair as of February 2025 with broken through boards and some more ready to give way, so exercise caution if attempting to use it.

Located in downtown Roseau, Old Stone Grill and Bar is a charming eatery that offers a tranquil and relaxed dining experience. Situated near the waterfront, this trendy restaurant boasts a stylish decor with an abundance of green plants, stone walls, and vibrant red accents. The attentive staff ensures excellent service throughout your visit. With an enticing menu featuring delectable seafood, chicken, pork, and various local dishes, there is something to satisfy every palate.
The Great Old House (formerly Old Stone Grill) was warm, welcoming, and delicious. When other places couldn’t seat us, they kindly accommodated us. We sat outside on the balcony, and the setting was perfect. I had grilled chicken with jerk sauce, rice, and salad—so flavorful. My friend’s BBQ ribs were tender and delicious. Great food and great service.
Lauren P — Google review
When we came here, the restaurant was out of most of the items on the menu. A question would be answered with "let me find out" and a disappearance of 15-20 minutes. When the food arrived, it was decent, some parts edible and some parts better. Serving sizes are generous. Service is standard Caribbean time slow / relaxing pace. Room is simple, not decorated nor elaborate.

Great place. Name of restaurant did not match but we found it. Food choices were varied but a few of the menu items were unavailable. Everything was fantastic. I would highly recommend and would most definitely return. The staff were super friendly and provided excellent service.

Third time trying to eat at this restaurant and we succeeded First time it was closed when it was supposed to be open, yesterday we called and they said they are open and when we got here we were told that they are not serving any food because they don't have any waiters...so finally we made it. The waiter seems to be doing most of the work whilst the waitress seems to sit around a lot and rolls her eyes when asked by her colleague to do something. Many of the items on the menu were missing. We had the fish cakes to start and goat curry for main, both very good. The card machine was out of order apparently, so we had to pay cash. Very interesting experience.
Oana M — Google review
Don't go here. Tons of reviews say they will tell you they "don't have that" from the menu. That's true. They didn't have at least 5 things and it's a SLIM menu to begin with. I had to disagree with my bill and have it corrected 3 times. First- they charged me for sides that the waitress stated were part of the meal I picked (I asked to make sure before I ordered them because I didn't need any sides) Then- they told me that the bill was higher because the prices on the menu had increased. They told me AFTER I ordered AND ate the food. Then- they tried to charge me for alcohol in my fruit punch when there wasn't any. Being told the "prices are higher than the menu shows" after eating the food was absolutely UNEXPECTABLE. They corrected the bill, after I made it clear I was paying the printed menu price and only for food that I had ordered based on the menu. The food was mediocre and the service was less than mediocre, and I'm not picky with either of those items.
Michelle C — Google review
I’m not sure if I should be posting to the Old Stone Grill and Bar or The Great Old House (same place). The name has no effect —the food is lovely, the balcony gets the perfect breeze, and the service is helpful and friendly. Some folks note that they are often out of things on the menu. It’s an island and the food is fresh. You get what’s good, and it is. Be prepared for large portions. The mains come with two sides and that would be plenty for me. That said, the appetizers were also very good and plentiful. Love the fish cakes! Spicy fries are a treat too.
Terri G — Google review
This place is by far one of the best restaurants I have eaten at on the island. You will not be disappointed. I mean service is great, the food exceptional. Spent a week in Dominica. Had to eat here as it’s one of the only places in Roseau open on Sunday. Prices not transparent, and even with the overcharging that was not clear (sides are extra and all charged in random amounts on each meal; i.e., fries cost 5EC more on some meals but 10EC more on others?!), we were still overcharged in the final bill. Waitress just shrugged when her math was off by 50 EC ($20 USD) from the USD total. Wouldn’t have chosen it since it’s right next to the cruise port, but trusted our hotel guide. Should not have and can’t recommend for you unless you can’t do simple math or don’t care about being hosed by untrained staff.

Sari-Sari Waterfall is a hidden gem in Dominica, nestled in the midst of lush rainforest. The journey to reach this secluded waterfall involves a 90-minute hike through the river, where hikers can expect to get wet even before reaching the basin. The trail is challenging but rewarding, with wading across the White River multiple times and navigating steep riverbanks and cascades.
Did this hike with a guide on 28 Dec 2024. The waterfall was excellent, the "hike" was not exactly what I would call a hike. Lots of rock scrambling, water crossing, and water crossings while rock scrambling. 100% recommend a guide and also recommend having low expectations of moving your hands and legs freely for the less than 3 miles round trip. Nearly 100% of the hike is 3 points of contact if you are like me and don't want to slip and fall. Area is very prone to flash flooding, so the landscape and trail are frequently changing. The guides talk to one another and give each other info so they are up to date on changes in the "trail".

DETAILED DIRECTIONS: park before the big concrete water tank, walk up the road past the water tank u will see a faint trail it curves to the right pretty soon after that u will walk past a green gate covered in vines and there will be a fork in the trail, go to the right there is a small garden, straight thru the garden the trail picks up again to the left of the big coconut tree. The trail is barely visible, and it goes into the bush. It becomes a little more visible once u enter the bush, but you have to walk thru a "bush" first. This is the most difficult stretch. It is very steep downhill until it hits the river. Once the trail runs into the river, straight across the river, the trail picks up again. At this point, we marked the trail by stacking rocks so we could find it on our way back, which turned out to be helpful. You will walk on the right side of the river in the forest. This trail will get closer to the river at the end, follow it until you are walking on the river rocks, and then when u reach the water, straight across, the trail picks up again. Stack some rocks to mark it. You will walk in the forest to the left of the river. This part is also difficult. This trail will end with a steep decline into the river where there is a small pool and a big fallen tree hanging over the river with vines dangling from it. This is maybe 3/4 of the way, and the river now becomes the trail. Just follow it upstream and enjoy. I recommend a guide to support the locals, and they can spot early signs of flooding. You can't escape this place quickly.

NOT SKETCHY (see previous review) unless you happen to be a scared white person who should probably not venture outside of the resorts or cruise ships anyway. Difficult hike but beautiful like the rest of the island. We had to turn back (being unfortunately a bit out of shape) but had no trouble finding the trail. As another reviewer mentioned, turn right after the water tank.

We are/were inexperienced. The hurricane has turned this into a boulder puzzlers delight, or nightmare. Took us two hours to get to the falls. Bring someone taller than 5'5" foot to help pull the others up. Look for stacked rocks and footprints for clues to the "path".

Resort hotel
Nestled on the edge of the Caribbean Sea, Fort Young Hotel and Dive Resort seamlessly combines historic allure with contemporary amenities. Originally a British fort from the 18th century, this relaxed hotel boasts stone walls, arched doorways, and colonial-style accents that add to its charm. Guests can enjoy stunning ocean views from the outdoor infinity pool and bar while taking in the vibrant waterfront promenade of Roseau.
I recently stayed at Fort Young Hotel and had a truly wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel welcome with their warm smiles and helpful attitudes. Every team member I encountered was friendly, professional, and eager to assist with anything I needed. The cleanliness of the hotel was top-notch. My room was spotless, with fresh linens and a crisp, clean scent that made me feel right at home. Common areas like the lobby, dining room, and hallways were equally well-kept and clearly maintained with care. One of the highlights of my stay was the food. The hotel’s restaurant served a variety of delicious meals that were both flavorful and beautifully presented. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. I especially enjoyed the local dishes on the menu — a real treat! Overall, Fort Young Hotel exceeded my expectations. It’s a perfect blend of comfort, hospitality, and quality. I would gladly return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant and memorable stay.

Enjoyed staying here during a scuba trip. The staff were friendly. Food service was very slow at the bar and sometimes the restaurant, but you have the option of ordering lunch and dinner ahead of time. The breakfast buffet had plentiful choices and was very good. There are a lot of stairs, but elevator service covers much of it. The scuba shop was excellent. Good safety, dive site briefings, and divemasters.

I stayed here last week, 8th through the 13th. The staff was so professionly warm and friendly. My room was beautiful, in the newer building. The room cleaners did a fantastic job. All hotel staff were polite and warm, so I would say Fort Young has a great professional training program. Great location that is close to everything, walking distance to a lot in town. There is the pier access for diving and just sitting on a chair at the hotel front is pretty relaxing!

Great location — just a short walk to the ferry station, markets, and town, which makes it very convenient. The recent renovations are well done and give the property a fresh, inviting feel. The staff is also friendly and welcoming. On the downside, breakfast is $25 for a continental-style selection, which feels a bit steep for what’s offered. We also waited about an hour and a half for food ordered at the bar (tacos and quesadillas), and when it finally arrived it was only average. For this type of food, faster service would be expected. Overall, the location and renovations stand out, but the food pricing and wait times could definitely improve.

My husband and I visited Dominica with friends and stayed near Fort Young Hotel — we ended up eating here for brunch, lunch, and dinner multiple times during our stay in Roseau. The food was consistently excellent and beautifully presented. We also treated ourselves to massages — HIGHLY recommend! We requested firm pressure and actually received firm, which was amazing. To top it off, we attended a solo art exhibition at the hotel, and the space and artwork were both stunning. Everything about our experience was relaxing, polished, and memorable. Absolutely worth visiting!

My best friend and I stayed there and we loved it so much! The staff at the front desk, breakfast area, and bar were all very welcoming and helpful. Everything at breakfast was amazing, especially the hot bakes and hot cocoa tea! 😍 We’ll definitely be coming back. 🤏🏾

Absolutely wonderful location for access to everything and prime location for the WCMF. The rooms have been renovated and are comfortable and spotless. Amenities include a pool with an ocean view, a gym with sunset yoga classes, ping pong and foosball table, and complimentary welcome drinks. My only disappointment was with the food. The room service was pretty inconsistent and the food was bland. I wish they offered local food options on the menu.
Carissa S — Google review
Stayed here for 4 nights and had the best time! The room was clean, quiet, and cold with a beautiful view of the ocean. The hotel has a very open air layout while providing plenty of protection from the elements. The location sits nicely close to town and within walking distance of a couple of markets and restaurants. The staff were extremely friendly. I've never met such nice people. My favorite part about this hotel was the piña coladas. Hands down the best I've ever had....and I've been a lot of places. This hotel had all the comforts while still maintaining that touch of luxury. The dive crew is also exceptional. The dive master was very skilled at his job and the best guide I've had to this date...and I've been on a lot of dives. The captain was also very accomplished, and we had the pleasure of getting to see whales thanks to him. The only thing slightly negative about our stay was that the toilet in our room would run about every 15 minutes or so. Kept us up the first night, but we figured out how to quiet it by closing the water valve next to the tank. Despite that, it was a magical stay. I would recommend.

Jungle Bay Dominica is an eco-lodge with spacious accommodations, a spa, and two yoga studios offering stunning sea views. The lodge offers dining options and is well-located for snorkeling in the southwest of Dominica. Visitors can explore historical sites like Fort Shirley, which played a significant role in the British-French ownership battle on the island. The property's villas are praised for their beauty and the friendly staff, while some feedback suggests that evening restaurant service could be improved.
We recently stayed at Jungle Bay for a portion of our family vacation in Dominica. It was amazing! The rooms are very spacious and clean. The property is beautiful and there are a ton of different fruit trees around the property which you are welcome to eat. Sam, the owner, found us a ripe soursop which was delicious. My 4yo daughter had a minor medical emergency in the middle of the night and the manager, Laura, was so helpful. She drove us to the hospital and waited while my daughter was treated. Definitely recommend this place and would love to stay again!

I booked a short trip for my solo wellness retreat to celebrate my 29th birthday here. I’ve traveled to many special places around the world, but Jungle Bay stands out as one of the most extraordinary experiences I’ve ever had. This resort is more than just beautiful, it’s deeply magical and spiritual. From the moment I arrived, I felt peace, warmth, and genuine care in every interaction. The staff are exceptional, not just professional, but truly personal. I had a private one-on-one yoga session with the general manager Laura and that was incredibly grounding and relaxing. Joanne and her team went above and beyond to make my birthday celebration so special. They decorated my table beautifully and made me feel so cared for. And Stacey was an absolute delight, I met her by chance while exploring the property, and she generously gave me a spontaneous garden tour, sharing so much knowledge and passion for the land. Besides the beautiful ocean suite and delicious daily fresh food, everything here feels intentional, from the lush surroundings to the kind hearts behind the scenes. Jungle Bay isn’t just a resort, it’s a sanctuary for the soul. You will leave this place feeling like a different person, it moves you in ways that are hard to put into words. It reminds you of humanity, connection, joy, and kindness in this world. Jungle Bay is the prime example of what hospitality should be and I cannot wait to come back! 🌿

Jungle Bay was an excellent value! We stayed in one of the villas facing the ocean — the view was absolutely spectacular and offered wonderful privacy. The room was simple yet very comfortable and beautifully maintained. The restaurant was great; we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner, and everything was fresh and flavorful. We also visited the spa and each had a fantastic massage — the perfect way to end our stay. We’ll definitely return to Jungle Bay, and next time we plan to stay longer. Highly recommend this peaceful, rejuvenating escape!

Laura the manager, and the entire staff are some of the kindest and most attentive people I've ever met. The place is super beautiful and has a view of the ocean with beautiful sunsets. I recommend everyone to stay here.

Tucked into the lush, emerald hills of Dominica’s southern coast, Jungle Bay is more than a resort—it’s a full-body immersion into nature’s wild elegance. The eco-luxury villas, perched on stilts and connected by winding stone paths, feel like treehouse sanctuaries, each with sweeping views of the Atlantic and the rainforest canopy. Mornings begin with birdsong and the scent of tropical blooms, and the rhythm of the day is set by the rustle of palm fronds and the distant crash of waves. The staff radiates warmth and authenticity, making every guest feel like part of the island’s heartbeat. Adventure pulses through Jungle Bay’s daily offerings. Guided hikes lead you deep into Dominica’s volcanic interior, where trails wind through fern-covered ravines and across bubbling streams. One standout is the trek to Middleham Falls, a towering cascade that rewards your effort with a cool, misty plunge pool at its base. Another favorite is the hike to Sari Sari Falls, where you scramble over boulders and wade through rivers to reach a hidden waterfall thundering into a jade basin—raw, exhilarating, and unforgettable. For a gentler pace, the resort’s own nature trails offer botanical wonders and panoramic lookouts without leaving the grounds. Water lovers are spoiled for choice. Jungle Bay organizes canyoning adventures through narrow gorges, where you rappel beside waterfalls and leap into crystal-clear pools. Kayaking along the Rosalie River offers a serene counterpoint, gliding past mangroves and herons. After a day of exploration, nothing compares to soaking in the resort’s cliffside infinity pool or indulging in a volcanic mud wrap at the spa 🧖‍♂️. Jungle Bay isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a place to awaken. Whether you're chasing waterfalls, trekking through cloud forests, or simply watching the stars from your private terrace, every moment here feels like a rediscovery of wonder 🌿.

Visited for Creole day lunch. It was raining and was thankful they had golf carts to take you from parking lot to dinning area. Greeters upon entry were very pleasant. Decor is gorgeous - definitely keeping on island theme. Food was good but wasn’t hot (note: we did arrive at the last 1/2hr of the buffet lunch but as long as there is food left it should be kept at temperature). Table service was not great, had to get the attention of at least two servers to get something to drink. One person in my party never received her juice. Mind blowing view of our beautiful island.

International airport
Douglas-Charles Airport is one of the main entry points for visitors to Dominica, with American Airlines offering nonstop flights from Miami International Airport. The airport has basic amenities including food options and shops at the departure gate. Immigration and customs processes are efficient, although there's only one ATM which may not always be operational. Rental car companies are available on-site. Over time, the airport has seen improvements in infrastructure and services, with an increasing number of airlines serving the market.
I had a wonderful time at the Douglas-Charles Airport. We were able to get checked in and drop off our bags quickly, and then I was escorted to the lounge for a security screening. There were many comfortable chairs and complimentary snacks and beverages. They had boarding announcements and walked us out the plane when it was time to board. Fantastic!
Cody W — Google review
Small but functional airport. Limited number of flights and destinations. We used the online pre-entry immigration and customs declaration which was easy to do and we experienced relatively short wait immigration times for entry and professional and friendly service. There is no immigration check when departing (like the USA), just the usual security screening which seemed thorough and quick. Some shops available in departure waiting area. Departure gate seats were available and typical. Only negative here is having to pay $80 US per couple to go to or from Roseau and most everywhere else, due to very limited public bus van service (unlike some other islands where you can catch the public bus). Having time, we walked the 10 to 15 minute walk outside the airport to the main highway (got some fun incredulous looks from people as we strolled out) where buses sometimes pick up people, as evidenced by locals and airport workers waiting and confirming yep you can catch a bus here sometime. The walk was pleasant and easy, but we stood with locals waiting for about an hour with no bus passing by in the late afternoon, so due to some looming rain and no shelter and my desire to stay happily married, we caved in and paid the $80 for private taxi bus. We jokingly wondered whether the public bus was asked to stand by hidden and waiting for the crazy tourists to cave in so the locals could get where they needed? 😂 Probably not, think it was the later hour that reduced the bus frequency. Anyways we enjoyed conversing with nice folks as we waited, worth a try I guess. Anyways all good here and no surprises. My last video here shows the construction of the new airport well underway a bit north of current airport.

The staff are so kind and helpful! I’d say the friendliest airport staffs I’ve ever met in the Caribbean! And not because I’m from there 😉
Verne — Google review
If I could give this place 0 stars I wouldn’t hesitate. The airport is functional I suppose so it can have the star for that. The security staff are the most despicable bunch of airport staff I’ve ever encountered after over 20 years of travelling across the world - these are the WORST by a clear mile. They try to intimidate you and enforce ridiculous rules that they have clearly made up. There were three of us in the ‘queue’ and we were all one travelling party. The man put on his shades and tried to act like an army sergeant demanding we stand in a straight line in a specific place or he won’t look at our passports. I was then told I had to remove my headscarf. I asked for a female to search me and was refused. He asked if I wear it for faith reasons to which I responded yes and he berated me mockingly saying ‘what religion is that then?!’ Which is NONE of his business. He clearly made an assumption based on the fact I was in shorts and a t shirt because he was far too ignorant to understand that multiple faiths wear a headscarf. I had been through passport checks and everything with the scarf on, so my identity was nowhere close to concealed yet this man MICKEY MARTIN decided he would embarrass me to prove a point. This is only one incident that happened here at this airport There are about 12 security officers in a security area the size of a bathroom all staring and standing about doing nothing while MICKEY MARTIN and the other guy with his shades bullies people. They are all inconsistent too. My mum wasn’t asked for her boarding pass but I was. My friend had to unpack her entire bag for no reason, no reason was given. This was clearly another pathetic bullying tactic. When asked how to complain about Mr Martin, I was told smugly that I can complain to his supervisor who was standing there watching the whole thing. That’s good considering I’ll be complaining to the Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority about him and the others. Multiple airport staff told me these people get complained about all the time. I’ll make sure that I go as high as possible to complain. Absolutely DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Officials are treating you as if you were a thug if you are a man and traveling solo : luggage was every time fully checked and you bet it’s a mess when it’s over. Seemed like they would have loved to find some illegal stuff in it. Keep that in mind, been there for more than ten check ins and outs, seemed like bribe is what everyone over there is waiting for… Not only at the airport thou, must be the government setting the trend. They should live by the rule that it’s the visitor they’re supposed to be welcoming in that still so beautiful country.
White M — Google review
The airport is small but everything seemed to work efficiently. Selection of dining options and shops are very, very limited.
Rajeev W — Google review
There is no good connection to Roseau, the capital city. Pretty much the only choice is to get there by taxi which can be really costly, is about an hour far. They mentioned something about a bus, but they told me I was too late to get one (I arrived at 3pm). I understand that there are not many people coming to that airport, so they cannot serve you by regular public transport, but there is definitely room for progress regardless that.

To reach the summit, you can take the Jacks Walk track, which may be short but requires some effort due to its steepness.

The view was fantastic all the way up. At the top you would see the details about the fort on a sign and the very beautiful religious monument. At the top, you could choose to go down the trail or you can walk past the monument about 5 minutes from the fort and you would see a road that takes you back down to Roseau.

Red Rocks in Calibishie, Dominica is a stunning natural attraction with red clay cliffs and rocks surrounded by lush greenery. The area resembles a smaller version of the Grand Canyon with its vibrant red hues. Visitors can explore the cave and enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. While it may be a bit challenging to find, following the signs for Red Rock Cuisine will lead you to this impressive site.
Pretty cool rocks, there is a cave too. The rocks are beautiful especially when the sun hits them. There is Black Sands Beach right below, beautiful sounds of nature and water. You have to go through Red Rock Cuisine, a restaurant where you get access to the beach. The tour guide was amazing, make sure he takes you, he is very awesome! The pics with boats are taken where google maps led me to, thankfully the villagers are so kind and they guided me to the right place.

Red Rocks was a gorgeous lookout and photo opportunity. The viewpoint is a quick 5 minute walk down from the restaurant bar and a charge of 2USD or 5ECD is required per person. Bubble Beach Spa is a unique and welcoming natural phenomenon located in Dominica. The beach features a section of the sea cordoned off with sandbags and tires, where hot water bubbles up, creating a therapeutic and relaxing experience for visitors. Mr. Bubbles, the friendly owner, provides background information on the phenomenon and ensures visitors' safety while enjoying the warm waters. Additionally, snorkeling opportunities are available to observe various fish species amidst the bubbling currents.
Superb spot, with a small beach, a bar and hot springs in the sea! Mr Bubbles provides great value drinks, my favourite being the rum and lime. His wife will sometimes provide a very reasonably priced, yet delicious and plentiful meal. Although it's best to book that in advance. Also if you walk down the beach a bit there's a few reefs not far from the shore for some great snorkeling. Oh and the sunsets rarely dussppoint!

Nestled on the northwestern coast of Dominica, Secret Bay is a luxurious boutique resort offering rustic-chic bungalows and villas with beach access and top-notch customer service. The six secluded villas are perched high in the trees, each featuring its own two-story layout overlooking the Caribbean. Guests can enjoy hammocks and ocean views on the bottom floor, while the main floor boasts private pools, open-air kitchens, and decks for birdwatching.
Our stay at Secret Bay was incredible. The staff are warm, welcoming, and attentive; the villas are incredible; the setting was a great blend of jungle and beach; and all of the food and drinks were fresh and delicious. We felt very taken care of with the villa host, concierge, and all of the amenities at our disposal. We don’t typically splurge on places like this but I felt like it was worth it, especially when considering similarly priced room at other nice hotels, like the Four Seasons and Ritz.

Secret Bay is on a different level. It’s not easy to find a place that gets luxury, privacy, and sustainability all right — but somehow, this place does. Waking up surrounded by rainforest, hearing the ocean in the background, completely off the grid... it’s hard to compare it to anywhere else in the Caribbean. The villas are flawless. The food is next level. And the staff make the whole experience feel effortless. One of the best stays I’ve ever had. Highly recommend.

We had a fabulous stay at Secret Bay. The villa is crazy amazing and the location feels… well, secret. It was extremely quiet and well appointed. The beach and pool were not crowded; they were clean. The food and drinks made with care from natural ingredients (Dane is the guy you want to see) and were generally really tasty. Where the resort fell from 5 to 4 stars was in the service. We had many issues with scheduling things (meals to go, carts to take us places) that just literally never happened despite us reconfirming multiple times. Additionally, the restaurant service, especially at dinner was inconsistent. One night: amazing and quick. Another night: undercooked fish and 30 min inbetween courses. If those things can be improved upon, this is as close to 5 star as it gets.

Secret bay was the biggest disappointment ever. The location is truly spectacular. it is fully immersed in nature and there is no question the natural site is quite unique. Now the infrastructure, the terrible service and the average food made it just a bad experience. I don't know how a resort can claim itself being 6 star but this one is not even worth 3 stars. The villas are outdated and the design is super budget. I really wonder how Relais & Chateaux ended up onboarding this property that is completely overpriced for the low level of customer service and the lack good management.

Secret Bay is a beautiful property — stunning views, elegant villas, excellent food, and fun, thoughtful artwork throughout. Our room was gorgeous, and the staff were exceptional. Our villa host, Keldon, went above and beyond; breakfast cooked in our room the morning we left was outstanding. I recommend sharing preferences in advance — everything was perfectly tailored, and everyone wanted seconds! The only disappointment was the spa. Four of us booked massages; only one person had a good experience. Two of us requested firm to very firm pressure and, despite asking multiple times, received almost no pressure at all — more like finger tapping. It was, unfortunately, one of the worst massages I’ve ever had (I get weekly massages). Paying $300 USD for 90 minutes and leaving more tense than when I arrived was frustrating. I’d absolutely stay here again for the property, staff, and dining — all top-tier — but I would skip the spa next time.

Didn’t stay the night but restaurant experience is beyond mediocre for usd 180 per head for a fixed 5 courses meal. The supermarket quality bread is counted as one course. Small, not very fresh plates and non attentive staff with an attitude of not wanting to be there, just stand around chatting and impossible to get attention for 10-15 mins that I actually need to walk up to them. Wood and steel banister by the table are flaking / rusting. Very few staff around the hotel to help with direction and buggy so 15 mins wait each way to get back to the car park. I’m so glad I didn’t book that hotel, and so surprised people will accept such low quality experience with this price compare to other Caribbean countries. So ashamed to have suggested this place for dinner which left everyone disappointed , out of pocket and still hungry.

This was an amazing couples vacation. To have a villa nestled in the middle of a rainforest is a truly unique experience especially with the way Secret Bay incorporates luxury and great service. All food and beverage was amazing. Service from airport transfer to concierge to host (Shout out Materina for the extra help) was amazing. The villa pool can be heated to give you a warn plunge pool. Special requests can always be made

I visited secret Bay from March 22 to March 29, traveling on the nonstop United flight from Newark to Dominica. Upon arrival, Tyrone from Secret Bay was waiting to drive me to the resort. Airport transfers were included they were private. Never being to Dominica, Ty gave me a brief overview on the way to the resort, including a quick drive-through Portsmouth, the closest town to the resort. Great driver, warm and welcoming. Without going through a play-by-play of every moment of every day, which I very easily could do, I’ll state a few aspects of my visit. I’ve been very fortunate to have traveled to several islands in the Pacific, including Hawaii. I’ve been to the People’s Republic twice and some tropical areas in Asia. The week at Secret Bay, was simply spectacular. I do not believe in all my travels. I had a more relaxing week away. Secret Bay, with no cliché, is a secret solitude that is unmatched in the Caribbean probably let alone in the Western Hemisphere. I believe there are more employees than guests. The grounds are so meticulously maintained. I’m a single traveler, I had Ylang Ylang One Villa. Martina was my villa host. I cannot speak more highly of her. She was so incredibly gracious, it’s beyond words. Yet unimposing. Tina made sure that I had fresh fruit, local snacks. Tina as well arranged my schedule to service the villa both morning and evening. Things I didn’t even ask for and I really didn’t request anything, I had anyway. There was nothing to request. The villa was spotless. The outdoor living area with the breeze off the mountains, it’s hard to explain unless you experience it yourself. Bath facilities were immaculate. A large soaking tub. I did not use the tub per say, however it was incorporated into the shower. Which had a rainfall head which was refreshing. The plunge pool outside, completely private was, again just spectacular. I was in and out of the pool several times a day. Private lounge chairs were adjacent. I cannot stress enough regarding privacy. This is delicate to mention, I am not a “naturalist” nor is this resort intended to be represented as such, however you needn’t be concerned whatsoever if you chose to not wear swim attire on your villa property to sunbathe, etc. Wildlife, unbelievable. I was fortunate on three occasions at dusk to see several parrots fly by. There were no mosquitoes, or insects of any kind, at least that I saw. The whole property is built onto the mountainside. It was a great walk back-and-forth from my location to the main building where the restaurant is. Although if you’re staying out farther away, there are golf carts and drivers at your disposal. Anywhere on the vast resort you’d like to go. The restaurant from breakfast through dinner with Chef Aurelien at the helm along with Josefani, who is the food and beverage manager operates a meticulously well-oiled machine. I dined with them six of the seven evenings and each night was again, marvelous to say the least. There were three fine dining events scattered throughout the week, one featuring local creole cuisine, one Italian, and one Asian. I can’t say enough about the quality and meticulous presentation. A true gem at the restaurant is Curvlyn, professional, and charismatic beyond compare. As well, the entire staff from breakfast through dinner, including the beach bar service area, second to none. You did not ask for anything at Secret Bay, between Jessica and her staff and concierge, they almost anticipated your needs. The activities that they also provide off property, even though I did not experience any, interacting with other guests from what I understand, again our top notch to say the least. The morning after I arrived, I was greeted by Craig Sands, the general manager of the resort. Craig treats the resort as if it is his own. By the end of my visit I gained a great friend. Charismatic gentleman who cares deeply for his guests, and as well treats his staff with the upmost respect. I will return to Secret Bay sooner than later.

Syndicate Falls is a relatively easy trek with minimal elevation gain, but it can get muddy and involves hopping rocks across two rivers. The payoff is the stunning waterfall that leads into a refreshing water base, perfect for cooling down. It's recommended to bring wet shoes with good grip for crossing the water several times. The entrance fee is USD 5 or XCD 10, and the waterfall is just 10 minutes away from the entrance.
We decided on visiting Syndicate Falls as our quick morning trip before we returned our hire car. So glad we did. It’s private so a small fee to enter but this was the best setting. After a few miles - 15 min off the main road on single track lane as you climb towards the highest peak, then a right turn at a sign on a large tree just as natural vegetation is replaced by a gardened hedge. Delightful approach and smiling bartender explained the logistics and made us a quick coffee / ginger and lime iced drink. Along the walk to the falls info boards share many genuinely interesting, useful and helpful facts. Walked across (or rather through) the river four times to arrive at a tall, powerful and beautiful waterfall. We were only folk there, had a swim, loved it. Back for a lunch served in super setting looking across valley of trees, hummingbird at nearby flowers. The knowledgeable bar tender (sorry we forgot to ask your name) answering our Qs about plants and history and the chef did us proud with mahimahi filets in a great sauce, sweet potato fries and salad. It was so well cooked and the best meal we’ve had in some months. The presentation complimented the setting brilliantly. I did manage their banana bread glazed with sauce. There are various waterfalls on the island, don’t miss this one. This is what we came to Dominica for…

Wonderful gem! Please visit and enjoy the lovely experience: beautiful gardens, fun hike on a nicely maintained trail, and the reward of gorgeous falls! Nic at the Little Zion Cafe will make you fantastic refreshments afterwards. Bring cash for the modest fee and for the cafe. Google directions aren't exactly correct, turn right where you see beautiful botanical flowering plants and the sign indicating the Little Zion Cafe. I've included a photo.

Easy hike with a gorgeous view. Bring good water shoes and a bathing suit. You pay an entrance fee of $5 USD, separate from the eco tourism pass. However it’s a great hike with water crossings (accompanied with ropes to hold) then you get to the waterfall. Great place to bird.

The waterfall was too loud and pristine. The rum drinks were too plentiful and delicious and the proprietor was too fun and knowledgeable. Cannot recommend.
John H — Google review
The Falls itself is beautiful and breathtaking. The hike is short, however the people are the bar cheated us and made the experience afterwards questionable.
D C — Google review
In order to reach the waterfall, you must go through a private property and pay an entrance fee. However I need to admit that I was impressed by the excellent condition of the short trail with a few educational placards. It's a popular stop by tour buses so it can get very crowded.
Martin R — Google review
Really fun experience, not too difficult of a walk. Bring wet shoes with a good grip, as you will cross water several times and the rocks are very slippery. The falls are gorgeous. We were able to drive all the way to where you pay/start, without a 4 wheel drive. The day we were there, they closed at 4pm but still let us enter at 3:40. The water was not suitable for swimming, but wading during the walk and the cool breeze coming off the falls made for a very nice experience.

Embarking on the hike to Boiling Lake in Dominica is an unforgettable adventure that every traveler should experience. This trek, which spans approximately six hours round trip, is not for the faint of heart; it’s a challenging journey through rugged terrain and steep inclines. However, the reward at the end is truly spectacular. As you navigate your way through the Valley of Desolation—where hot streams bubble and volcanic gases vent—you'll find yourself captivated by nature's raw power.
I rarely review things but wanted to share my two cents worth for this trail in case it’s helpful to anyone planning their trip. I was super nervous about doing this hike having read lots of reviews and blogs about it, and was really unsure about going without a guide – but having been quoted $75 per person (to walk as part of a group!), we decided to chance it and I’m SO glad we did. I would say I’m averagely fit (I walk a fair bit but don’t do any other form of exercise) and it was a moderately challenging 4.5 hour round trip. The trail is super easy to follow all the way – for the most part there is literally nowhere you can turn off the path. In the Valley of Desolation, you can just follow the footprints if you can’t see the trail, and it’s super easy to avoid the hot streams as they’re visibly bubbling and steaming. We downloaded the All Trails map beforehand but we didn’t actually need to use it at all. We were told by a guide that we met at the lake that it was illegal for us to be hiking there without a guide, but at time of writing this is not true. We met several other couples and groups also hiking without guides and they all seemed to be doing fine (and moving a lot faster than the groups). You need a site pass to access the trailhead and the office in Laudat wasn’t open when we went, so we had to drive round to Freshwater Lake, meaning we set off slightly later than planned. I therefore would recommend picking a pass up before you go if you can, so that you can set off early (between 8 and 10am, but the earlier the better so you can avoid the heat of the day). You will need to scramble on some parts of the trail, so wear clothes you’re happy to get muddy, and I’d strongly recommend wearing hiking boots (not least because if you do then step in a hot stream by accident, you’ll feel the heat through your boots rather than on your skin). If you do the standard prep you would normally do for a longish hike (ie brush up on the trail beforehand, tell someone where you’re going, download a map, take plenty of water and snacks, pack gear for wet weather but try to pick a dry day so you can see the views etc) then you’ll be absolutely fine doing this trail. The scenery is beautiful and unlike anything else we saw in Dominica, so it’s well worth a visit!

After reading about how amazing the hike and site is, we decided to hire a guide. Our hotel concierge had trouble finding a guide, but succeeded at about 530pm the night before. Our guide was 10 min late to pick us up, and when we got to the entrance point, he turned us over to another guide. The guide we got was NOT helpful at all. He barely spoke to us. On difficult areas, he did not assist at all, nor did he volunteer to show us the best way over rocky walls or passing close to rivers ' edge. It rained about half the time, the guide walked ahead, didn't wait for us. When we got to the lake, the view was nice, but not worth the strenuous path, heavy rain or rude guide. We had read other reviews which praised their guide- we had one of the worse. The driver's name was Nathan and the guide was Peter- insist on a good guide or get your own in advance- apparently many of the good ones can be reached on Instagram.

Loved this hike! Went with a guide, Chadi Symes, who I contacted via Instagram and who led a fantastic trip with lots of additional information about the plants, animals, geology, and history of the island that added tremendously to the natural beauty of the hike. I debated for some time about getting a guide as an experienced and fit hiker, and I would recommend it for both enrichment and safety. While the hike is not very strenuous in terms of elevation gain or distance, there are several technical spots with high-consequence drops that benefitted from a guide’s advice on how to best navigate. In addition, in the area of mineral mud leading to the boiling lake, it is not obvious which places are and are not stable and which pools are pleasantly warm (great for soaking feet) or scalding. All in all, a very pleasant day and a great way to see a lot of the island’s natural beauty!

This was a great hike! It took us about 5 hours roundtrip with stops for water and photographs. It's very steep in some places but overall a very manageable hike if you're in decent shape. We had a guide, Jason from Extreme Dominica (we'd highly recommend him), because we read online that the trail is hard to find in places and dangerous. We really enjoyed having a guide and it is not easy to find your way, but we didn't find it dangerous in at all. If you have an up to date map, you should be able to go yourself.

Canefield Airport (DCF) is a small yet functional airport located on the beautiful island of Dominica. While it doesn't offer direct flights from the U.S. or Canada, travelers can easily reach it by hopping between various Caribbean islands like Puerto Rico and Antigua. The airport features essential amenities, including a couple of shops at the departure gate and quick immigration and customs processes for arriving and departing passengers.
Small airport that has the basics. A place to grab food, 2 little shops located at the departure gate. Immigration and customs moved quickly for entering and leaving. Only one atm, and as luck would have it, it was not working today. Rental companies located within the airport. I used Courtesy Car rental and had a newer compact suv with back up camera. Super satisfied with the truck rental. Read reviews about security having issues with liquids etc. I did not encounter any issues, they were pretty quick and friendly. I don't think the airport has free wifi tho

Nestled away from the bustling tourist spots, Number One Beach is a hidden gem that offers an escape into nature's beauty. Known for its striking black sand and picturesque surroundings, this beach has served as a backdrop for two Pirates of the Caribbean films. Despite its cinematic fame, it remains relatively uncrowded due to its challenging access and lack of facilities.
Number one beach is a beautiful and picturesque black sand beach but is usually too rough for swimming. It's a great place to meditate and enjoy the incredible beauty of Dominica. You can swim in the Hampstead river where it meets the ocean. This is lovely, shallow, clean and sandy. The beach is an easy 5 minute walk from the road where there's room to park or you can walk from Calibishie in less than 20 minutes.

Here it's free but swimming in the rough Atlantic is not recommended.

Wavine Cyrique Falls is one of the most stunning waterfalls in Dominica, located on the east coast. The hike to the falls is challenging, involving descending a steep cliff using rope ladders and tree roots. Once at the bottom, visitors are greeted by a magnificent waterfall cascading into the Atlantic, often accompanied by a black sand beach. However, access to the site may be restricted due to safety concerns as some equipment has been removed.
Caution, this site is no longer accessible; the ladder and the ropes are no longer in place! I took off my equipment because I saw on this Google page that some people took the risk of going there without any security, putting their lives in danger!!! This site was equipped to progress in safety, guided by a canyoning instructor, and all the technical equipment (harness, lanyards, gears, helmets, etc). Not wishing to feel responsible and to prevent the accident, I removed all my equipment since some people did not understand the beauty of life!?! For those who want to live this adventure safely and enjoy life contact me! #canyoningdominica

Unreal place, very beautiful. It’s on the east coast so the black sand beach gets a lot of seaweed and thrash of the Atlantic but the place remains beautiful. If you can go on a day with no wind and swell it’s the best. As for the hike, it is short but very challenging. You will have to go down using a ladder and ropes and there’s moment in between where you have to use the roots or trees. If you are afraid of heights, even the slightest, this is not for you. Do not attempt if it’s muddy or raining as well.
Simon L — Google review
Just went today (January 23 2020). Ladders have been replaced since hurricane Maria. One of our favorite adventures yet! Definitely need to be very careful, and in relatively good shape. You traverse the side of the mountain using ladders and ropes put up by a local resident. Beautiful views the entire way and the waterfall flowing into the Atlantic Ocean was surreal. The pin actually stopped us a bit before the “parking area” continue on a bit farther and take the next left all the way to the second green house where you can park and donate a few dollars (we donated 10 EC) to the man that maintains the trail and lives in the green house.
Billy S — Google review
I haven't been to the falls recently, but it's an amazing site once you reach the falls. The hike is difficult. Rope ladders and tree roots are used to gain footing as you descend a steep cliff. Once you get to the bottom you will see a waterfall cascading from the top of a cliff into the Atlantic. There's usually a black sand beach, but this changes based on the tide and whether waves have battered the beach recently. Definitely get a guide or trusted local to take you to the falls. I definitely would not visit the falls on a rainy day or if there are any tropical weather systems, since waves may reach further up the beach and the hike would be more difficult. Update 12/28/19: Since Maria the area has changed a bit. Very few trees are available to form a canopy or allow climbing using roots. If you have a fear of heights this will be a difficult hike. If you own safety harnesses take them with you, since it may help you feel safer. The final part of the hike will definitely be easier for people used to rock climbing etc (since it's really steep). The site is currently being updated. One can view the falls from the top, if he or she isn't up to climbing down the ladders.
I S — Google review
The ladder that used to go down to the beach is gone and the only thing you can visit now is the top of the falls where they come out of the cliff, but it is a steep hike down an unmarked trail, we weren't comfortable making it there

I've visited this beach since I was a toddler. Whether there is sand (black) or stones is dependent on many factors. It can change from day to day. It's also affected badly by sargassum. Sea bathers should be cautious as the sea currents can make the area dangerous. Most people do not bathe in the area anymore. Turtles nest on the beach and it can be arranged to go view them. The Rosalie river flows into the ocean, so it creates a nice environment. The surrounding land is poorly maintained. It can be a great place to hang out if the old mill was maintained and visitors kept the area clean.
