Piazza Erminio Ferretto is the focal point of Mestre's historic center, just a short walk from the train station. The square is a pedestrian-friendly area bordered by graceful structures such as the 12th-century Clock Tower, which stands as the sole remaining tower of eleven that once lined the castle fortifications. Additionally, visitors can admire the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and the former Excelsior Cinema, known for its delightful Art Nouveau architecture.

Parks
Parco San Giuliano, located in Mestre just a bridge away from Venice, is a massive 74-hectare green space offering stunning views of Venice and the Venetian Lagoon. It serves as a preservation area for flora and fauna while also providing various outdoor activities such as biking, skating, and football. This urban garden is the largest city park in Europe and offers well-manicured paths for leisurely strolls or impromptu picnics.
Parco San Giuliano …. One of the most beautiful parks in Venice...a large park. Close to the lake. There is a bar, seating areas, children's games, toilets, and parking. It is a suitable place for families or for practicing sports in the open air
Rezin — Google review
Lovely park for walking around with nice weather. It has water fountains every once in a while, so you can drink or fill your water bottle. The scale of it is quite impressive as well
Juhan T — Google review
Want to go on a picnic? Want to go for a run, feel like jogging or even just to get fresh air? This is your place. No matter the season, you’ll love it.
Mahdis — Google review
Perfect place to spend the time !
Suela P — Google review
I heard that this is the biggest park in Europe. It can be true, it's very very big and suitable for jogging, running and having a picnic with many people. There are parks as well. The reason why I gave 3 stars is that it was so empty. No enough trees, as you see in the pictures I uploaded, green flat areas are a lot but trees are not very much. There are football pitches and basketball areas too. I would recommend here for taking a walk and having fresh air.
Mehmet O — Google review
Beautiful area with lots of green space, a park in the heart of Mestre and just across from Venice. The perfect place for complete rest and relaxation. Inside the park are great restaurants and bars that offer good food and drink. The green area offers a good view of Venice and the Venetian lagoon. Very open, with lots of trails for both runners and walkers and cyclists. Everything is great done. It is easy to walk or run 4-5 km around the park, the lagoon and its trails. Apart from being an area for environmental and landscape recovery, it is also one of the most important places to study the lagoon environment, it is also popular as a destination for sports and cultural activities for leisure. An ideal place to stay in nature with the family. Created thanks to the European contribution, San Giuliano Park is an ambitious project, one of the most significant urban conversion and land reclamation interventions in Italy due to its complexity and articulation, as well as its dimensional and territorial characteristics. San Giuliano Park is one of the richest areas of biodiversity in the Venetian lagoon environment, and is known for being an excellent area for bird watching to visit the lagoon, attracting the interest of many nature photographers and observers, especially ornithologists. The park is actually known to enthusiasts for its rich avifauna, as it is a nesting area for many species of birds.

Absolutely stunning! Clean, well organized. A lot of space for different kind of activities. Nice spot for walking, running and bicycling. Amazing view of Venice lagoon.
Dina F — Google review
Super awesome park just next to the bridge to Venice. Great for long walks, absolutely great for inline skating on a butterly smooth track and around the park, cycle paths, basketball court, place for landkiting, outdoor fitness and more. It is 3m away from camper stop :) simply the best park around here.

Convention center
Forte Marghera, a 19th-century fortress with a distinctive star-shaped layout, has been transformed into a vibrant cultural hub. Situated near Mestre and the canal that once linked it to the lagoon, this former military stronghold now hosts art exhibitions, live music events, DJ sets, workshops, and festivals. During summer (except Mondays), it buzzes with social gatherings. The surrounding green spaces provide relaxation and outdoor activities.
Great place to enjoy a peaceful nature. There are cafes places, playground etc. You can bring and feed/donate food to kitties, there is a volunteer organisation, which takes care of them (Associazione 'Mici del Forte' - Organizzazione di volontariato), on the left after the bridge.
Alexandra M — Google review
A nice lively place with a lot of options to hang out. Within the fort, there is a street with restaurants and bars and open air stages for live performances. Some of the restaurants also show live football matches. Overall a pleasant experience.
Bhavook B — Google review
So much fun and so many cats! It's a historical site so it's good to walk around and take pictures on the venetian sun, but also on one area there is a bar / grill with seating and music. But more importantly there were lots of cats! Will absolutely go again, but due to it being on the water there were a lot of mosquitoes so I would make sure to bring repellent or at least have bite cream for afterwards.
Kyriakos C — Google review
Cute cats but also a lot of mosquitos unfortunately. The views were nice and the place overall was very chill
Pekka M — Google review
We visited here mainly due to the cats. When we arrived, nothing was open. It was deserted except for some workmen cutting grass. We saw 5 cats. It was a long way to walk to see only 5 cats! We were very disappointed. What we didn't know was that a lot of places in Italy are closed on Monday. The Fort is open, but everything else isn't.
Joanna C — Google review
Perfect for relaxation! There are a few bars and restaurants on the one side, and just nature in the other side. It's worth a visit, especially in the last day of your trip when you want to refresh from Venice island's frenzy
Eliana V — Google review
Wow! An old fort that's open to the public. There's a stage, restaurants, a café, multiple art studios, and a cat rescue inside with tons of kitties! It is extremely fun and I wish we had more time to hang out. Best of all, it has a "locals" feel. Go visit and enjoy!!

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is housed in an 18th-century waterside palace and showcases a remarkable 20th-century art collection. The museum features a diverse range of artworks, including pieces from renowned artists such as Picasso, Pollock, Kandinsky, Miro, de Chirico, and Dali. Visitors can explore the interior sculpture garden while admiring over 150 works spanning various mediums like drawings, jewelry, photographs, documentaries, and films.
An absolute must when in Venice. The collection is incredible – not overwhelming in size, but perfectly curated so you can really enjoy each piece without feeling rushed. Walking through Peggy Guggenheim’s former home adds such a personal touch, and it feels almost like being invited into her world. The sculpture garden is a highlight – peaceful, inspiring, and a lovely spot to pause before heading back inside. I loved how accessible the museum feels, even if you’re not an art expert, you can still connect with the works and the stories behind them. It’s one of those places that stays with you long after you leave.
Simone — Google review
I enjoyed Peggy Guggenheim. I am also a fan of contemporary/ Modern Art! I am fascinated at how creative and ahead of their times the artists that she collected were in the 1930's. Get the audio version, the back story helps you understand the relationships that Peggy had (or did not have) with the artists. If you don't like contemporary art, go for the view it is beautiful overlooking the canal or in the garden. Venezia!!! Venice is eternity itself.❤️
Denise H — Google review
A must see when in Venice, totally worth the visit. I also recommend spending the extra €7 (on the steep side, to be fair) for the audioguide since there's an abundance of information regarding the artists and the collection in general (and the collectors themselves, of course). While a small gallery, the switch from garden to rooms to terrace (with exhibits) gives a nice and sophisticated feeling itself. You'll find the chance to see original Kandinsky, Picasso, Dali and Ernest (and many other famous contemporaries). I hope this helps 😊 P.S. while we booked in advance for early morning, there was no difficulty to also purchase tickets there. However, there was much more visitors than we expected, especially this early (first hours of opening).
Stelios A — Google review
A timeless favorite in Venice and one of the most enjoyable museum experiences in the city. Entry was €16 per person, and absolutely worth it. The collection brings together some of the most iconic works of modern art — Pollock, Miró, Magritte, Calder, and of course, Peggy’s own spirit running through the house. The museum is compact but deeply personal, with pieces displayed in what was once her home overlooking the Grand Canal. We started with coffee and a slice of chocolate cake at the café (a bit ordinary, but the view made up for it) before exploring the galleries. Intimate, vibrant, and full of history — it’s easy to see why this is a favorite spot for so many visitors.
Ozge U — Google review
Beautiful historic complex by the Canale Grande and quite an impressive collection. They also have temporary exhibitions of good quality. Be mindful though that accessibility is only warranted in the sculpture garden. Everywhere else there’s stairs up and down into and in the buildings.
Gabi G — Google review
Probably the most visited museum for modern art in Venice. To avoid waiting for an hour in front of the ticket office, buy your ticket on the internet. The art is safe, e.g. Mrs Guggenheim preferred to invest in known artists rather than taking risks. Much of the pleasure of coming here is negatively affected by the affluence of visitors. Plan your visit accordingly if you can.

WORLD CLASS! 👍👍👍👍👍 Here you will find a lot of the best artists of the best, a top place to visit in Venice. 🥰 They have a nice café. ☕🍷🍺 Entrance 15€, discount of you are owner 70 years old. 🙏 Picasso, Miro, Kandinsky and more of those guys. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nice collection of modern artwork from Cubism, surrealism and abstract art and sculptures. Works of Salvador Dali, Picasso and Joan Moro among others are displayed. Location along the Grand Canal is an ideal location. We spend quite a lot of time there. A nice cafe offers refreshing drinks too.

Teatro La Fenice, also known as "The Phoenix," is a renowned 1,000-seat theater in Italy that has faced destruction from three major fires since its opening in 1792. Despite these setbacks, the opera house has been meticulously restored and continues to host world-class opera, ballet, and classical music performances. The opulent interiors with gold detailing and plush red velvet chairs provide an old-world ambiance for visitors to enjoy classic Italian opera.
Elegant and historic theatre with breathtaking architecture and rich cultural heritage. The interior is lavishly decorated, and the acoustics are excellent, making performances truly memorable. Even if you can’t attend a show, a guided tour is highly recommended to appreciate its beauty and history.
Thuy N — Google review
Beautiful Opera House, just 8 min walk from St Marks Square. You can get a family ticket for (€30) along with an audio guide to enjoy the self guided tour. Ideal to be inside somewhere seeing this little gem on a hot day. We had a rehearsal going on too. We didn't need to pre book, just walked in and got the tickets. It was not very crowded.
Gaurav G — Google review
A stunning theatre with a wonderful history. The “Phoenix” has risen a number of times, most recently after a fire in 1996. In the tour, there is a touching tribute to the late, great Maria Callas, who performed here in many roles over many years. The ball room and Apollo rooms are also very beautiful.

Yo 🎤 lemme drop a verse about that Venice vibe — La Fenice 🔥, the phoenix that survives. Three times down, but it rose from the flame, Every comeback stronger — remember that name. 🌟 Stepped in the spot, man, jaw hit the floor, Gold drippin’ from the ceiling, couldn’t ask for more. 💎 Architecture tight, sound pure as a prayer, Every note in the air, man, magic everywhere. 🎶 Italy flexin’ — maybe world’s best show, A theatre reborn, with that eternal glow. ✨ Take the private tour, don’t rush, just cruise, Let the velvet, the vibes, and the echoes seduce. 😎 So when you hit Venice, don’t you dare skip this, Catch that Fenice flow, it’s pure bliss. 💫 From ashes to glory, that’s the scene — A masterpiece reborn, La Fenice, the queen. 👑🔥
Kayne L — Google review
A breathtaking historic theater – worth the visit Teatro La Fenice is one of the most beautiful opera houses I’ve seen. The interior is grand and elegant, full of history and charm. Even if you’re not attending a performance, the guided tour gives a fascinating glimpse into Venice’s cultural past. The ticket price is a bit high for a short visit, but the experience and atmosphere make it worthwhile.
Khalil A — Google review
1. Atmosphere & Architecture The theatre is absolutely gorgeous — gilded, ornate, with that period elegance. Golden decorations, frescoes, chandeliers, woodwork, plush red or rose‑velvet seating, all contribute to an immersive experience. There’s a powerful sense of history: La Fenice has burned down and been restored multiple times (notably a major fire in 1996), yet each reconstruction has honored the original style. That gives the place layers of resilience, almost mythic quality, which heightens the emotional impact. 2. Acoustics & Performance The sound is often praised — many reviews say that the acoustics are excellent; the theatre skillfully balances the orchestra, the singers, and the ambiance so that even from the boxes the intimacy isn’t lost. When there is a live performance (opera, symphony, ballet), everything seems to fall into place: the space, the architecture, the music and performance combine in a way that seems to transport people — many say they get chills. 3. Cultural Significance & Emotion La Fenice has hosted many premieres by Verdi, Rossini, Donizetti, etc. It’s a place where musical history was made. That gives a visit or performance an extra layer of weight and meaning. The restoration after tragedies (fires), the passion to rebuild “com’era, dov’era” (“as it was, where it was”) adds a sense of phoenix‑like rebirth. It’s fitting symbolically. 4. Accessibility & Visitor Experience Audio guides get good marks. They help bring the history, the architecture, stories of past performances alive for visitors. The cost of a visit is often considered reasonable for what one gets (€15-€25 for Sanpaolo). Some family‑pricing options exist. #mostoere #mosinitiatief #bethelselfcatering #9barnardstreetgeorge

La Fenice, absolutely gorgeous. Whether you're an opera lover or not, take in a show just for the experience. Wozzeck was fantastic, although an intermission wouldn't have gone astray. Be sure to purchase your tickets several months in advance as they sell fast!

The Tintoretto Scuola Grande di San Rocco is an ornate 16th-century art museum in Venice, Italy. Originally a confraternity, it now showcases the works of the dramatic Renaissance artist Tintoretto. The building itself is emblematic of the city and houses valuable pieces such as 'St. Roch cures the plague-stricken' and famous works depicting the lives of Jesus and the Virgin Mary.
Absolutely gorgeous place, must see it with only 7 euros entry fee. Buy tickets at the place no problem at all. Lots of great art on display and you can see some ballet classes in action too.
Pawel W — Google review
This is one of the great highlights of the whole of Venice. Some absolutely stunning rooms, including the main chamber, a side chapel and an upstairs treasury containing gold and silver. The painted ceilings and carved walls are breathtaking. They are simply unmissable and unmatchable.
Michael O — Google review
The Scuola Grande di San Rocco is a stunning showcase of Tintoretto’s brilliance. His vast cycle of paintings fills the halls with dramatic light, movement, and spiritual intensity. Walking through feels like stepping inside a Renaissance epic. It’s one of Venice’s most powerful and unforgettable artistic experiences.
Giulia B — Google review
This is a gem of a space. It may be diminutive in square footage but your response will not be to the epic scale of Tintoretto’s paintings. His brilliance spans the walls, ceiling, staircases offering gasp after gasp coupled with moments of reflection when considering it took over 20 years to complete this visually cohesive work of the Venetian Renaissance.
Christopher H — Google review
This museum is both incredibly impressive, quiet, contemplative but is also cool on a hot summer's day - this is October, mind but still very pleasant. The art is incredible, so ornate, so talented, even the carved books on the bookshelves - the tiled floors, the Tintorettos, the lanterns and the friezes - amazing

Basilica Santa Maria della Salute, also known as the Salute, is a stunning baroque church in Venice. Its iconic domed design and monumental facade by architect Baldassare Longhena make it a favorite among Venetians. Built in 1681 to commemorate the city's survival from a plague outbreak, the church houses important artworks by renowned artists such as Titian and Tintoretto.
Fabulous and iconic Venetian church, designed by Baldassare Longhena (1598-1682), it looks great inside and out. Its characteristic dome can be seen from many angles across Venice. With the outside newly renovated, it looks better than ever.
Nils P — Google review
The basilica itself is free, so definitely worth a visit. To get a view from the top, you have to go there to scan the qr code to book a slot. There's quite a few stairs up, and it's tight and windy but the view is lovely. However, it is very tight at the top and I think they let slightly too many people go up there. I think half the group size would be much better. Bare in mind too that once you're up there, you can't leave till the tour guide says you can. It's about half an hour up there.
Ben — Google review
This is of course one of the primary sites of interest in Venice and filled with great works by the master Titian. The main altar too is spectacular. The marble flooring directly under the famous dome is not currently accessible and there is some repair work going on. The church is free to enter.
Michael O — Google review
One of the most beautiful churches in Venice, built in the 17th century as a votive offering after the great plague. Its appearance is impressive even from afar, the large white dome, the richly decorated facade with sculptures, and the recognizable Baroque architecture that stands proudly at the entrance to the Grand Canal. The experience in person is even more breathtaking. Climbing the wide steps, you immediately feel a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The church is monumental, yet gentle in its light, especially in the evening when the sky turns gold. Inside, everything becomes quiet, serene, and it feels as if time slows down for a moment. For anyone who loves history, art, or simply wants to feel the true spirit of Venice, this place is a must-see. Santa Maria della Salute is a blend of story, soul, and beauty, one of those sights that stay with you long after you leave.
Marija R — Google review
A rather impressive sight from the outside (immersive and very detail, white marble with plenty of details carved), very nicely located for "viewing" all the way from St. Marco. Amazing sight indeed. Rather simplistic in the inside but still a marvel of architecture!
Stelios A — Google review
One of the most photographed objects in Venice but with a rather uninteresting interior. The best light is just before sunrise coming into Canal Grande from the lagoon with the vaporetto.
Sebastian R — Google review
This was our first time in Venice and decided to take a guided tour of the Basilica. The Basilica was amazing to see in person. The information about the building, the history of changes and remodels made and of course the paintings and artwork throughout the building made the experience one to remember. Too many pictures to post. You just had to go see it.
Norman L — Google review
Such an impressive building standing next to canal. Find a place with a view further away to admire it's beauty. Be aware of the scammers. They ask for money, pretending to work for the church or something like that.

Nestled in the winding streets of Venice, Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo is a stunning 15th-century palace that showcases the city's rich architectural heritage. This hidden gem features the remarkable Bovolo staircase, a spiral marvel that combines Veneto-Byzantine, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. Commissioned by nobleman Pietro Contarini to enhance his residence's facade, this enchanting structure has become a favorite among visitors seeking picturesque views.
The gondola is one of the most iconic symbols of Venice, offering a timeless way to experience the city's enchanting canals. Traditionally handcrafted from wood and painted black, these elegant, flat-bottomed boats have been used for centuries as a primary means of transport through Venice’s narrow waterways. Gondoliers, often dressed in striped shirts and straw hats, expertly navigate the labyrinth of canals with a single oar, sharing stories or singing as they go. While no longer essential for daily commuting, gondolas remain a cherished part of Venetian culture and are popular among tourists seeking a romantic and scenic ride through this unique floating city.

Very photogenic spiral staircase linking two parts of an ancient palazzo- not too bad a climb and great views from the top. Tucked away down a tiny alleyway just off the main drag - you wouldn’t know it was there unless you were looking for it! Beautifully lit up at night
Adelaide T — Google review
Its cool. Its in a very unassuming tight location. We didn't bother paying and climbing so we stood outside the tall black chain link fence and got as good of pictures as possible. 10mins (plus the anytime awesome walk to and from) to see it. Then you can say you saw that old twisting tower from the Rick Steves Venice 🇮🇹 video.
Lee V — Google review
It was ok. You can get some views of the city and there was a small exhibition. If you only took a photo from the ground looking up you won’t have missed much.
Jason K — Google review
Impressive landmark which is also a great photo spot. There is an entrance fee here and the climb could be tiring for the elderly/people who aren't in good shape. It's hidden away from the other sites so the alleys that lead into the place might look abandoned. Not a must visit, but a great place nevertheless.

Church
Basilica S.Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, also known as The Frari, is an impressive Gothic-style church in Venice. Despite its simple exterior, the interior is a treasure trove of art and history. Visitors can admire works by Titian, including the Assumption of the Virgin and marquetry choir stalls crafted by Marco Cozzi. The church also houses Canova's pyramid mausoleum and Bellini's Madonna with Child triptych.
“Absolutely stunning—an art lover’s dream with soul ✨” I was blown away by the grandeur and atmosphere here. The exterior may look humble, but once inside, the soaring Venetian‑Gothic arches, massive stone columns, and serene ambiance make it feel like a hidden cathedral gallery .

Absolutely beautiful Basilica in Venice that is worth visiting. It is a wonder of architecture and houses some amazing artwork including Titian's impressive Assumption which is above the altar. If you are visiting Venice, this Basilica is well wort the visit.

It's nice to see the skill of humankind in the building of the Basilica, the many sculptures and paintings and the love of preserving and restoration. We are not religious, so to us, this is a place to appreciate the skill of the artisans. The entrance fee is fine and we were treated kindly by the staff. It would be nice to have an audio tour to learn more about the various works of art and the history and meaning behind them.
Lisa W — Google review
Loved this beautiful church. Very unique. We wandered the streets trying to find it and of course walked past it but came back as we saw the tower. The art is incredible. The tombs were informative. The fact that this is a Franciscan church (the Venetian term for Friars in Frari - sounds a bit like Ferrari) gives it the plain facade and you can see the tension of trying to keep things simple and the larger church’s imposition of grandiose art. A couple of unique items with the clocks.
Randy H — Google review
The church might not look like much from the outside but it is really unique and impressive from the inside. It's worth the 5 euro entrance fee. The staff is very friendly. There are audio guides available. There is plenty of artwork to contemplate in many unique styles.

One of the great churches of Venice. Burial place of Titian and Canova, housing great monuments to them and some of the doges. Filled to the brim with monuments that would comprise a whole museum. Especially interesting is a statue by Donatello.

Ristorante Ai Tre Garofani in Venice has transformed into an elegant dining spot known for its fresh and top-quality fish dishes. The menu features acclaimed red shrimp and delicate gnocchi with crab, complemented by light and flavorful sauces. Guests can indulge in a delightful tasting menu offering a variety of courses at a reasonable price. The restaurant is praised for its exceptional ambiance, hospitality, and commendable service. Visitors also appreciate the convenient parking facilities.
We celebrated my spouse's birthday at Ai Tre Garofani tonight, and it was an exceptional experience. The ambiance, hospitality, and cuisine were outstanding. The restaurant offers convenient parking, and the service provided by the staff was truly commendable. The quality-to-price ratio is fair and reasonable. Although we skipped dessert due to having a birthday cake at home, I believe this restaurant is worth revisiting for another delightful dining experience, especially to savor their desserts. Looking forward to returning for more delicious meals.

Fresh food market
The Rialto Market, located beneath the Rialto Bridge in Venice, is a historic and bustling market that has been operating for almost a millennium. It consists of two sections - the main produce market and the Rialto Fish Market. Visitors can explore stalls offering fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables, cheese, Italian cured meats, fish, and seafood. The market provides an authentic Venetian experience and has been a vital reference point for locals throughout history.
Mercato Rialto offers an experience you won't find in other parts of Venice. You can buy fresh fish, fruit and vegetables to your taste. If you want to smell the aromas and experience the real market atmosphere, I recommend coming early in the morning when the crowds are not yet there and the whole place comes to life. However, be aware that it is closed on Mondays and Sundays.
Peter S — Google review
Clearly past it's glory days, but still has an atmosphere and uniqueness that makes it worth a visit. A noticeable number of 'tourist tat' stalls amid the fresh fruit & veg and fish stalls. You can still imagine what it would have been like to visit and do your shop when it was thriving though. Great people watching!
Lucy — Google review
A nice market in the heart of Venice. There are some amazing and unique fish on display, along with food stalls, fresh vegetables, souvenirs, and more. Prices are on the expensive side.
Hila — Google review
We always seek out the local markets and buy food for our dinner when we travel (we cook dinners in our AirBnB). Great seafood selection and the produce was bountiful! The reason for the 4 vs 5 stars is that there are several of the tourist t-shirt, trinket and souvenir stands as well. To be honest, Venice is full of these but we were so hoping to escape them a bit at the market.
Lisa W — Google review
If you’re visiting Venice, then besides the obvious sightseeing spots, you absolutely must visit the city’s most famous market. Here you can find everything — and see where local restaurateurs buy their fresh fish, seafood, vegetables, fruit, and much more. In our opinion, it’s an essential place to experience, and we highly recommend going early in the morning. The market is officially open until 3:00 p.m., but vendors start packing up shortly after noon.
Sebastian N — Google review
Rialto Market is a true gem in Venice! The vibrant atmosphere, the freshest seafood, and the colorful local produce make it an unforgettable experience. It’s the perfect place to soak in the city’s culinary culture and see where Venetians shop for their ingredients. Whether you’re looking for the best seasonal fruits or just want to enjoy the lively market scene, this is the place to be. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic food and local traditions!

It was amazinggg, We loved it.We took the gondola and it was a great experience. We paid 90€ in total for three people. The price does not change depending on the number of people. It is the same whether there are five people. The 30 minute gondola ride is priced at 90€.Definitely take a walk around the back streets, this is essential to understand the spirit of Venice. And definitely eat at more local establishments, it's cheaper and more original.

Line 1 of the vaporetto is Venice’s best show. If you’re lucky enough to get the seats beside the pilot cabin, you feel the city open up: the thrum of the engines, the vibration of the deck plates, the water slapping the hull, and palazzi lit like stage sets as you glide past. Rialto was once the world’s trading floor, where goods from East and West were landed — and you sense that weight of history even now, slipping under its arch by night. A vaporetto ride is Venice’s greatest souvenir: not bought, but lived.

The Clock Tower, a Renaissance structure dating back to 1499, offers stunning city views and features a mechanical clock adorned with symbolic decorations. Situated in St. Mark's Square, it is surrounded by iconic landmarks such as the Basilica di San Marco, Torre dell'Orologio, Campanile, and Doge's Palace. The square itself is grand and during autumn or winter months, it may be flooded with wooden platforms allowing people to move around.
The Torre dell'Orologio or clock tower was designed in 1496, has 5 floors and 132 steps, parts with a spirral staircase. You need to book a tour to enter. I got tickets from torreorologio.visitmuve.it For timings purpose please note that you will need to collect tickets at the ticket office of the Correr Museum at the other end of the square, so arrive early to get to the ticket office and pass through security and bag check. The guide was very good and made it very enjoyable and still informative. Inside you can see the intricate mechanism, inspired by the Zodiac, along with wooden icons that only emerge from the clocktower twice a year. The central part of the tower has the the clock, whose face shows the phases of the moon and sun as well as the signs of the zodiac. At the top is the Lion of St. Mark and a statue of the Madonna, this is part of the famous Two Moors Bell. An added plus is the excellent views you get from the rooftop.

* the sound of the bells are fantastic, you can hear it all over the town. * You can have the best view of tower clock from the balcony of the second floor( upstairs) of "Saint Mark's Basilica" church. * I think it's need the renovation and better maintenance.

It's beautiful and unmistakable! The tower is soo tall that it can be seen from far away, even when you're on a boat. There's an elevator and view from the top is recommended but it's always crowded so I skipped it during my visit. Right next to the Doge's palace, near St. Marco so every tourist visiting Venice would definitely come across.

This is one of the most famous architectural landmarks in Venice. Located in the Piazza San Marco. This building and the clock tower is from the 15th century. Stairs inside the building give you access to the terrace on the roof, passing the clock mechanism on the way. If you wanna sign up for a tour, it must be booked in advance.

The Clock Tower in Saint Mark’s Square, Venice, is a marvelous example of both engineering and artistic craftsmanship. Located beside the basilica, it has stood for centuries as a landmark that keeps time for travelers and locals alike. Its intricate design and historical significance make it a must-see attraction. I highly recommend taking the time to admire this fascinating piece of Venetian heritage.
Murillo P — Google review
Built between 1496 and 1499 by Maurizio Codussi in the Renaissance style, the tower was designed to help Venetian merchants and sailors keep accurate time. At the time, it was a marvel of engineering—symbolizing time, prosperity, and the glory of Venice in one striking structure. The large clock face displays 24-hour time, zodiac signs, and lunar phases, all set against a deep blue and gold background. Above the clock is a golden statue of the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus. On special occasions, figures of the Three Wise Men emerge and pass by the Madonna in a charming mechanical procession. Above them sits the winged lion of Saint Mark, the symbol of Venice, reinforcing the city’s identity and power. At the very top stand two bronze figures known as Moors, one representing youth and the other old age. They strike the bell every hour. Historically, the clock tower even housed a full-time clockkeeper who lived inside to maintain its mechanisms.

Nestled in the enchanting Dorsoduro district of Venice, the Gallerie dell'Accademia is a treasure trove for art lovers and culture seekers alike. This museum, set within a beautifully restored former convent, boasts an impressive collection of Venetian masterpieces from the 13th to 18th centuries. We were very lucky to see it all, 20 euros per person ticket and you can buy it inside. Massive amount of art on display and at the time we was there not busy at all (11.00) highly recommend. Beautiful bridge next to it with amazing views.

We embarked on our Italy tour in the enchanting city of Venice. Beyond its captivating canals, gondolas, and numerous cafes, Venice is steeped in rich Renaissance history. It stands as the ideal destination to delve into the lives and beliefs of the early to late Renaissance period. The collection at the Gallerie dell'Accademia boasts masterworks from renowned artists like Tinteretto, Titian, and Hieronymous Bosch, among others. Given the extensive collection, allocating more than a day to explore it thoroughly is highly recommended.
Rick B — Google review
One of the great Italian Galleries, which must not be missed. Filled with the works of Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Bassano, Bellini and many others. One of the less appreciated rooms but nonetheless best works here are by Hieronymus Bosch. There isn’t much variety, in the most pieces are from churches, but nonetheless these works are masterpieces and the collection as a whole deserves to be recognised as the best works of the florentine renaissance artists.
Michael O — Google review
Gallerie dell’Accademia — a quiet encounter with the spirit of the Renaissance The Accademia Gallery in Venice may not be the largest museum in Italy, but it is certainly one of the most significant. It holds an extraordinary collection of Venetian paintings from the 15th to the 18th centuries — masterpieces by Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, Bellini, and rare works by Hieronymus Bosch. For some reason, as in every museum in the world, crowds always gather around Bosch’s paintings. His enigmatic visions seem to draw people in and hold them captive. The museum itself is quite compact: if you move quickly, you can see it in about an hour or so. But to truly appreciate the details, colors, and atmosphere of each painting, two to three hours are ideal. There’s something deeply moving about seeing the works you’ve only known from books and reproductions come alive before your eyes. The light, the shadows, the brushstrokes — all remind you that Venice is not only the city of canals and gondolas, but also a cradle of art that changed the world.
Julia B — Google review
This was a beautiful Gallery. We didn't get the audio and we should have to understand the works better. Did not realise the Vitruvian Man it behind a screen for 20 minutes and is then displayed for 20 minutes to protect it. Photos can be taken but no flash.

Centuries of incredible Venetian art! A must when you are in Venice! They have art featuring Caliari (his version of the last supper is incredible & my favorite), Bellini, Tintoretto, and many others, and Canova sculptures that are simple incredible.
Anna A — Google review
Stunning collection of Venetian art. We were lucky to get there at the first Sunday of the month, so the entrance was completely free. Yet, it is still worth to be paid for.
Eugenia G — Google review
We walked to the Gallerie dell'Accademia from the Salizada S.Lio area over the Accademia bridge, which didn't take long. We booked our tickets directly through the Accademia website for a specific time slot as they only allow 300 or so people at a time. This made the visit very pleasant and not too crowded. For two people plus temporary exhibition was €40 (June 2025). I've studied Italian Renaissance at uni, so I appreciated the artwork on display but my favourite were the sculptures and of course Vetruvian man. Every 20mins a beep sounds and a shutter raises up to reveal the Vetruvian man before lowering again after a short period of time. This is to help preserve this Da Vinci work. While the Accademia does not have a cafe I side, here is one immediately to the left as you exit the building. A ferry stop is also in front of the Accademia if you want to take the Vaporetto on the Grand Canal.

Absolutely outstanding museum and cafe and location!!! For so many reasons!! 1.) the ATVO water bus has a stop right next door! Super convenient to get to via the canal and a lovely walk too 2) an OUTSTANDING collection of 18th century art and furnishings and great history cards in each room that explains the history and much of daily life 3) interesting history of the property, both in origin and more recent as Robert Browning and Cole Porter both leased and lived here 4) THE BEST lunch location!! A lovely old house converted into a museum with ceilings by some of greatest Venetian artists. Upon entering one is met with a vast painted hall, of sublime quality and design. On the same room are a set of state rooms with art, furniture and other items. I especially enjoyed the tapestries, though they are in need of a clean and some restoration. The upper floors are galleries. There is one statue of a veiled lady that is particularly impressive.

A masterpiece of Venetian Baroque and Rococo architecture, the palace now serves as the Museum of 18th-Century Venice (Museo del Settecento Veneziano). It was originally commissioned in 1649 by the noble Bon family and designed by the renowned architect Baldassare Longhena. However, construction was halted due to Longhena’s death and the Bon family’s financial difficulties. In 1751, the palace was acquired by the wealthy Rezzonico family, who completed it in 1758 under the direction of Giorgio Massari. Since 1936, the palace has been open to the public as a museum showcasing the art, culture, and daily life of 18th-century Venetian nobility. Visitors can explore opulently decorated rooms, period furnishings, and works by artists such as Tiepolo and Longhi, offering a vivid glimpse into Venice’s golden age.

Venice's Fondaco Dei Tedeschi by DFS has a rich history as a caravanserai for Germanic traders and later served as the city's main post office. Today, it has been transformed into a glamorous shopping mall featuring major designer fashion labels. The Philippe Starck-designed Amo cafe-restaurant-cocktail bar offers a taste of super-chef Massimiliano Alajmo's cuisine in the central courtyard.

5 stars is only for the structure itself - inside and out it's a beautiful old building which in the past was a hostel and a warehouse for the city's German (Tedeschi) merchants and their imports. After being destroyed by fire in 1505, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi was rebuilt in a Renaissance architectural style. Nowadays it's a 4-story boutique shopping mall for luxury brands under the DFS Group ( a global travel retailer of luxury products based in Hong Kong). We were blessed with the lovely weather on the day which made it even more memorable. Be aware that you need to reserve a time slot to access the viewing platform. The access is free, however be mindful that tickets get reserved well in advance, so try to plan ahead if you can. The views are absolutely wort to wait for ⭐️

Shopping centre in the centre of Venice with high end brands if you want to burn cash. Lovely architecture inside. They offer a rooftop view of the city. You can book or do a walk in. It is free but would recommend to book as it can be busy. Lovely views of the grand canal, worth a visit

It’s the most beautiful and artistic department store I’ve ever seen 😍 And there is a rooftop where you can see Grand Canal in Venice at a glance! The admission is free for the rooftop, but you should make a reservation online in advance and you can stay here for 15 minutes. The view is breathtaking, It’s also majestic in department store so it’s worth visiting ✨

It is essential to book 15 minute slot on the roof viewing platform. The views are amazing in every direction. The shopping centre is cool too.

Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca' d'Oro is a 15th-century palace located on the Grand Canal in Venice. Originally known as Palazzo Santa Sofia, it was designed by architect Giovanni Bon and his son Bartolomeo. The palace's facade, which once boasted exquisite gilt and polychrome embellishments, has now faded to pink and white.
Very nice museum, lots on display. It has a very nice collection of ancient and antique artifacts. Lots of famous painters have their artwork located in here. It has many lovely statues, mini figurines, and artwork. The building has very lovely architecture and you get a wonderful view of the grand canal. I would definitely recommend checking out this museum.

While Baron Franchetti’s personal art collection may be a matter of taste, the elevated front-row views of the Grand Canal — now unrivaled since the closure of Fondaco dei Tedeschi — are truly the highlight. Through the lacework of Gothic arches, you're treated to an intimate view of the bustling Grand Canal. It's rarely crowded, so you can linger as long as you like. For just €7 more, you can opt for a combined ticket that also grants access to the unique and impressive Palazzo Grimani — effectively halving its €14 entry price.
CityScrolls — Google review
The place is crawling with demons or ghosts. With such a creepy history (owners' suicide, etc.), coupled with the eerie, asymmetrical design, the place is truly spine-chilling. You can't go inside, but I wouldn't even if I could. However, being close to such a genuinely creepy place is an amazing feeling! Before visiting, you should definitely thoroughly study its history to understand what it is and why it is the way it is.
KARMA L — Google review
This was an exquisite and private place. The owner, who never lived there, spent a lot of time personally laying the marble mosaic floor and collected beautiful paintings and statues. It has a great view of the Grand Canal. The story is poignant and touching. Recommended.

What a magical place! Especially near closing time! It's right next to a vaporetto stop, from which you get a nice front view of the magnificent facade. Upper floors are down for renovation l, that will last till 2026-27. Right now, only the courtyard with the stairs and mini garden are open for 3 euro. Still worth it! You can gaze at the Grand Canal through the lovely stone windows. Do keep in mind to look out for high water( I easily checked from a vaporetto too). Do give yourself plenty of time to just sit at the stone benches and marvel at the beautiful work if the craftsmen and the Baron himself! Like I said, the blpalazzo is in a busy area, but once inside? It's haven! And it was during peak season! Enjoy!

Amazing space and art gallery. Went in on the afternoon on the 4th February. Hardly anyone in which was incredible considering how busy Venice was due to carnival starting. Was great to have the place virtually to myself enjoy the place and art and get away from the crowds Managed to get straight in, no queues, nothing. Worth 6 euros

I want to move in here...stunning palace, inside out, so even just for the architecture value worth a visit, but kn top you have here both "old masters" works and interventions of contemporary design site specific works. Staff is very welcoming, friendly and helpful, entry at 8,50 is fair.

Located in the Santa Croce district of Venice, Ca' Pesaro is a stunning 17th-century Baroque palace that overlooks the Grand Canal. It houses the International Gallery of Modern Art, which features renowned works from the 20th century by artists like Auguste Rodin and Gustav Klimt. The palace also hosts temporary exhibitions on its second floor and is home to the Venice Museum of Oriental Art on its third floor, showcasing an impressive collection of Oriental art.
Housed in a grand Baroque palace, this is one of Venice’s major museums for modern art, featuring an extensive collection of 19th- and 20th-century paintings and sculptures. The building was designed by Baldassarre Longhena in the mid-17th century and completed in 1710. Originally the residence of the noble Pesaro family, it was transformed into a modern art gallery and opened to the public in 1902. The museum holds works by artists such as Gustav Klimt, Marc Chagall, Pierre Bonnard, and Wassily Kandinsky, along with sculptures by Auguste Rodin, Medardo Rosso, Adolfo Wildt, and Arturo Martini. The top floor is home to the Museo d'Arte Orientale, which features a rich collection of Asian art, including lacquerware and decorative objects from Japan’s Edo period. ※ Included in the Venice Museum Pass.

A quiet oasis tucked away in a busy city. I only visited because it was included in the museum pass. I'm glad I did. The highlight was the asian collection. The cafe has a lovely view.

A small modern art collection. Of special interest is a piece by Gustav Klimt. Also contains an exhibition an Asia on the top floor.
Michael O — Google review
I’m usually not a big fan of modern art, but Ca’ Pesaro quite surprised me. The museum is housed in a stunning Baroque palace close to the Grand Canal. The main galleries focus on late 19th- and early 20th-century art, with works by Klimt, Chagall, Kandinsky, and a few Italian futurists. Some pieces are strange or heavy, but the setting gives them a new kind of beauty — the contrast between the ornate ceilings and the bold modern art really works. What impressed me most, though, was the Oriental Art collection upstairs. Samurai armor, Japanese swords, delicate ceramics, and Buddhist sculptures — all beautifully displayed and completely unexpected in the middle of Venice. Very impresive collection. Museum is not crowded, you can enjoy your own space while contemplating art a front of you.
Przemyslaw K — Google review
A nice museum in a magnificent palace, well worth a visit. Since the museum was established much later than museums of "modern art" in other major Italian cities, its collection of 19th century art is very small, but it holds some major paintings from late 19th and early 20th century. Amazing exhibition of huge murals by Giulio Sartorio. Museum café is a hidden gem, with a terrace facing Grand Canal.
Peter B — Google review
Writing this in English for all the international tourists: it just happened, I'm baffled, honestly just skip it. We didn't have the opportunity to even enter the museum. After you enter the glass doors on the left, you are immediately at the ticket office but before you can approach for the tickets you need to have your bags searched/security checked, and no complainings here Mind you, I'm Italian, so no issue with communication or anything of the sort: Me: hi, we would like to do the tickets Security guy: your bookbags are too big Me: ok, do you have lockers where we can put our stuff? Free of charge or not, we don't care Security guy: yes,we do have lockers, but you can't arrive at the lockers because you need to enter and I can't let you enter with those big bags Me: I'm sorry, you have lockers but we can't use them/reach them? Him: yes, I see we have an issue in communication, the lockers are inside and I can't let you reach their location, so you should find by yourself some lockers outside/ in the city Ticket lady: yes I'm sorry, it's like this, the Prefecture is not giving us permission All of this with an extremely arrogant tone, definitely not customer service oriented let alone "kind" or "mortified" in any sort. Now, I did search for ANY info on the museum website's regarding this and there is none. You have lockers that are unreachable for me? That's poor planning on where to put them on your part, and learn some manners on how to treat customers/clients Adding a picture of the bookbag for reference

Fantastic collection of modern art in fabulous building. The famous Klimt (Judith II) is to die for. Wonderful "Neue Sachlichkeit" style paintings by Antonio Donghi (1897-1963). There was also a great Armando Testa (1917-1992) exhibition. The café right on the Canal Grande is beautiful and probably the nicest café in Venice. Beautiful Oriental Art museum on the 3rd floor. And nice gift store.

This is a great place to delve into the Italian history of the last century. The exhibition is wonderfully interactive and interesting. It presents valuable information about events that aren't too far in the past, yet offers perspectives that are often out of sight from one's own usual viewpoint. It really sheds new light on the recent past. Highly recommended for anyone interested in modern history!

It was the best museum I have ever been! Very new and interesting. All the nowadays solutions can make history much easier to learn. Also, one of the goals was learn about local culture and as the rooms were very interactive I felt like some local gave me all the information. It felt very personal. Thank you for lovely staff who are working there and the people who designed this amazing museum! It really is the best and must visit if you are in Venice.

Really cool interactive museum with a permanent venue of Italy’s 1900’s, and other alternate shows on the 3rd floor. The building is kind of new and made with an ultra modern industrial style. You will find it in Mestre center so we you are visiting Venice you have an excuse to move to the suburbs. You’ll also find lots of small restaurants, coffees and gelato. Also not too expensive with possible discounts applicable to a wide range of people

Great idea, slight overkill on the digital concept. Everything is in Italian or English. The whole thing is completely digital, in a darkened environment with very many screens (actually, only screens). Would definitely not recommend for persons with photo-epilepsy or those who get overstimulated quickly.

I went early on a Sunday so it was empty. Very modern and a lot of digital/interactive contents. I did not have enough time but you could easily spend 2hrs exploring all the floors if you look in detail. If you want to explore contemporary Italian history in a fun way, this is the place for you.

The Leonardo da Vinci Museum Venice, located within the historic San Barnaba Church, offers a unique glimpse into the genius of one of history's greatest minds. While the church itself may not boast extraordinary architecture, it holds cinematic significance as a filming location for 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.' Visitors can explore its interiors to discover state rooms adorned with remarkable frescoes and art pieces that echo centuries of history.
Leonardo da Vinci: The Exhibition’ in Venice (San Barnaba Church) might seem boring to some, but if you’re even slightly into engineering, industrial design, or machinery, this place is your paradise. The Mona Lisa is undoubtedly a masterpiece — no question about it — but I truly wish the rest of Leonardo’s work received the same level of recognition. Everything in this exhibition represents ideas and mechanisms that still influence our daily lives, even if we don’t always realize it. It takes a technical mind to fully appreciate that. For me, it was a rare and unforgettable experience. I just wish they would restore the few models that were broken or not functioning — it would make the experience even more powerful.

Villa Foscari, also known as La Malcontenta, is a magnificent 16th-century Palladian villa located in Mira, near Venice. Commissioned by the Foscari brothers, this regal mansion features an imposing facade and is adorned with floor-to-ceiling frescoes that follow a carefully designed iconographical program. The villa's interior boasts well-preserved rooms decorated with a large cycle of frescoes, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich history and architectural significance.
We visited this location on a boat tour. The architecture and the history is just awesome! The history surounding this place is worth hiring a guide. We ware lucky that we had someone guide us through the whole experience. We found out about the "Vitruvian Man" proportions used by the architect when building this nice villa. Nothing much more to say then, go visit!
Paul P — Google review
We visited Villa Foscari “La Malcontenta” yesterday – a wonderful experience for me as an architect and for my husband, who is a painter. It’s the only Andrea Palladio villa located directly on the Brenta River, and it’s absolutely worth visiting. Less crowded than Villa Rotonda, it allows you to enjoy its beauty in complete peace and quiet. The façades facing the river and the park reveal two completely different characters – a true masterpiece of symmetry, proportion, and light. The young lady at the ticket desk was exceptionally kind and very knowledgeable about the history of the villa and the area. She shared many interesting details that made our visit even more special. You can also use an audio guide available in several languages – the access link is provided when you purchase your ticket.
Anna K — Google review
Another superlative villa by Andrea Palladio (1508-1580), preserved from the 16th century as if in a time warp. Just a short drive from Venice or also reachable by boat via the Brenta Canal. It was conceived for the brothers Nicolo and Alvise Foscari and nearly complete by 1560. One of the interior rooms currently features a sculpture designed by Zaha Hadid (1950-2016), whose design was derived from the dimensions of the villa. The rooms themselves appear surprisingly livable with nice views of the canal and the garden.
Nils P — Google review
I was expecting a bit more for the price we had to pay, some areas are closed off. Other villas that are close by charge less than half the price and has more to offer and see. They have informative cards about the villa in different languages (Italian, English and German, maybe French as well). Great architecture and arts within the villa though.

(Translated by Google) Brick church dating back to after the Second World War, as the first, in Renaissance style and consecrated in 1925 by Blessed Longhin, had been razed to the ground by bombs. The new one appears tidy, solemn in its simplicity. An exception is the Chapel of the Santissimo, in the presbytery, in cornu Evangelii, totally frescoed by the Trentino Fabio Nones with episodes from the Gospel. The large Murano glass lamps also stand out. The natural chapels are dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. A third is used as a baptistery. The organ would be beautiful, a Malvestio-Tamburini partly with double compartment, restored in an approximate way to say the least a few years ago and barely functioning. L’organo sarebbe bello, un Malvestio-Tamburini in parte a doppio scomparto, restaurato in modo a dir poco approssimativo qualche anno fa e funzionante a stento.

(Translated by Google) The Momo theater is a small theater in Mestre but with a well-stocked theater program in the winter period of the year. The cost of the ticket is not at all expensive and can almost be compared to a cinema ticket. Theatrical performances are almost always funny and ironic and in this period of many uncertainties there is an extreme need for a healthy and economical escape. Thanks therefore to those who organize this little theatre. G.V. G.V.

(Translated by Google) Small neighborhood theater with good shows, concerts and events also for children. Since it doesn't have many places, it is strongly recommended to always book. It also makes local musical and theater groups available for rehearsals. There are also free shows but the tickets are still cheap. (Translated by Google) Terrible theatre: chairs all at the same level and the stage is very little raised, so either you are in the very first rows (impossible, because there are season ticket holders there who always have priority in purchasing new season tickets) or you can't see anything. I almost always pay for the ticket and my son only sees the heads in front: shameful.

Historical landmark
Forte Mezzacapo, situated in Zelarino, Venice, is a historical fort constructed in the early 1900s to safeguard Venice from potential attacks. Despite never being utilized for its intended purpose, it remains remarkably well-preserved and now serves as a cultural center managed by an association. The fort hosts art exhibitions and events within its premises, featuring a theater and event space available for rental.
Amazing space. Never fails to impress for its unique atmosphere. Must be seen and felt. Keep an eye on their web site for the events .

(Translated by Google) A very well-kept and fully visitable fort. The exhibition on the left side that deals a bit with the professions of the past and the life of the past is really very very beautiful. For those who are not very young it is a little dive into the past inside the grandparents' house. The other part that is accessed from the door on the right is completely visitable but empty, it would be nice to see some finds that in some way made it clear what life was like inside the fort. The park is very beautiful. From the parking lot to the fort there is a path with various contemporary works of art, some of them unfortunately have the indications of the title and the artist ruined by the weather. But it is always nice to be able to walk and observe the works of art trying to understand what they represent or feel the sensations that you experience. I recommend a walk even with your four-legged friend! (Original) Un forte davvero ben tenuto e totalmente visitabile.

(Translated by Google) In addition to being a great artist, Gaia is also a splendid person, assisted by splendid people (her parents) and with whom talking is a real pleasure. His works all have a very precise and well thought out line, his poetics focused on the fight against discrimination and the protection of our beautiful Earth always excites me, in every installation he presents at contests or contemporary art fairs. Even pop paintings and sculptures are no exception, because they are never banal and always characterized by particular decorative elements. The gallery is a magical place, furnished with taste and in which love is perceived. Stop by if you have time. You can't help but agree with me! 💙 (Original) Oltre ad essere una grande artista Gaia è anche una persona splendida, assistita da persone splendide (i suoi genitori) e con le quali parlare è un vero piacere. You get lost in the details, in the objects of all kinds cared for, worked and painted excellently by the artist Gaia Lionello, of whom there are also numerous works. Perfect for more serious thoughts and gifts, but also just to simply take some time to immerse yourself in the magical world of Gaia and her particular artistic touch. Recommended for connoisseurs and for those who never stop wanting to satisfy their knowledge and curiosity with "beauty".
