National Parks
Khortytsia is a sizable landmass found in the Dnieper River, housing Zaporoz'ka Sich, a reconstructed fortress of the Cossacks. This historical island attracts both tourists and locals alike, particularly on weekends. It offers various attractions such as museums, park walks, forest biking and running trails. Climbers of all skill levels can enjoy its rocks while accessible roads cater to wheelchair users and cars.
Hortytsya is a historical island, visited not only by the tourists, but by many locals, specially during the weekend as it is a great place where one can visit museums, walk in the park, bike and run in the huge forest covering the island. There are rocks on the island for climbers of all levels, from the beginners to the professionals. And there are #ACCESSIBLE roads for the wheelchairs or cars along the island which makes it even more attracktive. The island in beautiful any time of the year, but most in spring, summer and golden autumn of course.

A real treasure of the Nature. The island is the only part of the city of Zaporizhzhya where you can actually breathe freely. It has a lot of attractions, — beaches, hiking trails, restaurants, museums, theaters, etc... If you like nature, this place is for you to visit and to enjoy.
Dmytro B — Google review
The largest River Island on the Dnieper and a vital historical site, Khortysia was named one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine in 2007. The island’s value rests in its historical associations with the unruly Zaporizhian Cossacks. They established a “sich” (a wooden fortress settlement) here in the 16th century, and maybe the most compelling piece of trivia is that they are believed to have composed their mocking reply to the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed IV on the island. This moment is engrained in Ukrainian folklore and recorded in a famous painting by the 19th-century painter Ilya Repin. There’s a museum on Khortytsia, which we’ll visit next, while the whole island is a national reserve, featuring 50-metre granite cliffs, large swathes of steppe and oak and spruce forest.

The Zaporizhzhya Regional Museum is housed in a historic structure and showcases an impressive collection of artifacts, artwork, photographs and nature exhibits. It provides visitors with a deep dive into the rich culture and history of this ancient crossroads of the world. While some information is available in English, not all exhibits are translated. A visit to this museum is highly recommended and offers a fascinating experience that warrants multiple returns.
by thinking about the relation of their budget and what they did out of it-big respect!!kind guards, fotos allowed, nice updated exhibition about time or industrialization and construction or Dniproges. Some infos in english would make it perfect.

Park
Voznesenivsʹkyy Park is a delightful 4.5-hectare green space nestled along the Dnieper River, right next to the stunning Rainbow fountains on Mayakovskoho Avenue. This park boasts modern landscape design and features an artificial pond adorned with charming fountains, making it a picturesque spot for relaxation and leisure activities. Families will appreciate the playgrounds, while art installations provide plenty of Instagram-worthy moments.
It's a good place for nature lovers. Perfect combo of sunshine, greenery and water ⛲ bodies.

Nice park , popular place for city events such as some concerts or fairs. Good scenery, nice pond with ducks and turtles, fountains. Children playground, many benches. Two parking lots from both sides of the park. Cozy place. Also you will find kiosks and cafe with some snacks and drinks there. Be careful in that part next to Naberezhna because drivers don't care about speed limit.
Vladimir S — Google review
A very good park with a pond inhabited by turtles and koy fish. There are rides for the kids (paid and free), a nice water mil feature. People, please don't feed the fish, the birds and other wild life bread. It kills them. There are no signs not to feed but please don't, just know that it kills them. On another note, the park could do with a bit more benches and seating options.

National reserve
The Cossacks, who are integral to Ukrainian national identity, have established themselves on Khortytsia Island near Zaporizhia. The island houses their fortified wooden village known as a sich, which has been reconstructed into an open-air museum. For those interested in Ukrainian history, this is an ideal destination to explore the roots of the nation.
If you’re from abroad and wanted to see the roots of Ukrainian history - visit this place! No doubt you would be satisfied of different things have done by Cossacks in Ukraine that time.

Several spots to see in the island. Depending on what you do, you can make your tour exciting. Cool place for walking, hiking, cycling, chilling, swimming, exploring.
Aimee M — Google review
The island feels abandoned and surrounded by brutal industrial districts. Maybe because of lockdown or maybe because of weather, it felt the wrong destination for a holiday travel. Oh, but flowers were nice :)
Vasily R — Google review
It has been renovated and now the place looks amazing. The newly built spiral pathway upto the flag pole looks great at night.
Dr. R — Google review
We have got there in a rainy and cloudy day. Anyway we've got astonished by the views on Dnepr and on the damb. The fortress was built to reproduce the old cozacs fortress to film a movie about Taras Bulba - you can find this movie online. There are some souvenir shops as well as a small restaurant (if I can name ot this way) where you can find something to eat (national food) and drink). Recommended!
Victor P — Google review
Not very impressive since lack of historical info. The performance of local Kossacs shows only fight methods witch is not very safe for audience anyway. But it's always good opportunity to see how it looked like in the past.

Educational institution
The Zaporizhzhia Children's Railway, established in 1972, stands out as one of the longest and most delightful children's railways in Ukraine. Spanning a main track of 8.6 kilometers and a total length of 9.4 kilometers, this charming railway features a station along with seven platforms for eager passengers. While it may sound surprising to have trains operated by young people, this initiative is designed to educate future railway professionals.
(Translated by Google) It's very nice here. Children are delighted with animals and they can ride on a small train along the children's railway. On weekends, this is exactly the place where you can spend time with your children. Feed the animals at the zoo, walk around the territory, enjoy the beauty of roses and ornamental plants. There are also fish and boas in the terrarium. Clean, pleasant, affordable prices.

A real-life railway operated by children sounds like a recipe for disaster, but these narrow-gauge lines are found all over the former USSR, from East Germany to Uzbekistan. They were created to educate future railway drivers, signal operators and conductors. So in truth it’s not children, but teenagers operating this train that clatters along a track for almost ten kilometres. The teens dress up in uniform and take charge of every job, from actually operating the throttle to selling tickets. The train can be boarded at the Komunarskyi District, just down from Dubovy Gai.

(Translated by Google) Cool place to relax. Gorgeous green area. A huge variety of plants. Very beautiful on the birch alley. Well-groomed, clean, pleasant - for which I thank the staff. The aquarium provides a wide variety of fish. I have never seen such huge piranhas and a surprisingly active crocodile. The winter garden is also okay. We were pleased with the fish in the pond and some of the living creatures But the zoo disappointed... Children, of course, like it, but adults look at it from the other side. The enclosures are relatively clean, the animals are dirty and I would even say that some are hungry. The stench... I have no desire to go to the zoo. Well, in general, this is a wonderful place for a walk and relaxation!

(Translated by Google) We've been here as a family several times before, but more than 10 years ago, exactly, when the eldest daughter was little. Now the youngest was 3 years old and decided to take a walk on the weekend (August 2019) to the sights and recreation areas of Zaporozhye (we are from Energodar). We arrived here in the morning, as it was very hot during the day (we already knew about this). Upon arrival, we realized that basically nothing had changed, but in general everything was still well maintained and the service was pleasant. We visited everything we could here: 1. The zoo is, of course, not Berdyansk or Odessa, but in principle for a ridiculous fee of 30 UAH. you can see deer, bears, wolves, foxes, birds, piglets, rams and goats, hares; 2. Aquarium - a lot of all kinds of fish and I was impressed by the rather large crocodile, which opened its mouth at us (there used to be also a terrarium with snakes). 3. Green winter garden - there is also something to see here, many different trees and bushes in one place, huge vines, ficuses, banana, lemon, dracaenas and many more, plus a small pool with goldfish. There's definitely something to see (also at a conservative price). 4. A small park area on the street - there are also a lot of green spaces and flowers, everything is well-groomed and beautiful with a landscape approach. 5. The children's train itself left a double impression, the train itself and what the children serve are interesting, but where it goes there is absolutely nothing to see, so don't expect to see anything interesting (the train simply passes through forest plantations with grass and weeds, there are no special places). Conclusion - here you can and should inexpensively visit the zoo, aquarium, winter garden and take a walk around the territory. But the train ride itself is not at all impressive, except for the child the feeling of the trip and that’s it!

(Translated by Google) There is a very beautiful well-groomed area and a railway, but when you enter the aquarium and winter garden, you get the feeling that you have been deceived. The aquarium will take you a couple of minutes; there’s nothing to do there longer. The Nile crocodile, which sits in a tiny puddle, evokes only pity. There are very hungry mosquitoes in the winter garden and it is just as boring. The Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant, situated between Dnipro and Zaporizhia in Ukraine, was constructed to make the River Dnieper navigable. The dam is an impressive 800 metres long and stands at a height of 61 metres. It boasts a capacity of 1,569 megawatts, making it a significant source of hydroelectric power.
A great fixture of СССР. Every season it provides different views of the Дніпро. Good place for taking landscape pictures.
Adam B — Google review
Between Dnipro and Zaporizhia there used to be over 100 kilometres of impassable rapids on the River Dnieper, which is one of the reasons this region was so hard for empires to control. Plans to make the river navigable were announced in the 1890s, and it would be another three decades before the city’s famous hydroelectric dam was completed. A few years after its initial unveiling in 1932, the whole structure had to be rebuilt almost from scratch after it was wrecked in the Second World War. The dam is 800 metres long, with a height of 61 metres, and has a capacity of 1,569 megawatts. You could cross it via the footbridge, but it’s a trip to make at quiet times as the traffic can be a bit much

Fountains are a stunning highlight in the heart of Zaporozhye, where Soborny Avenue unfolds with its captivating architecture. This area boasts beautiful towers that stand out against the skyline, making it a unique gem among regional centers in Ukraine. Located on Sobornyj Prospekt, the Museum of the History of Weapons is an impressive collection of weaponry ranging from Stone Age spearheads to 20th-century firearms. Housed in the basement of a modest-looking shop, this one-room museum boasts over 4,000 vintage swords, cutlasses, axes, muskets, revolvers, rifles and armor adorning every inch of wall space.

On Sobornyj Prospekt in the basement of a nondescript-looking shop is a head-spinning arsenal of weapons put together by just one man. The museum is a single room, but there isn’t a centimetre of wall-space that is not covered by vintage swords, cutlasses, axes, muskets, revolvers, rifles, blunt weapons or armour. In all there are more than 4,000 pieces in this museum, the oldest dating to the Stone Age and the most recent from the Second World War.

But it is small only in size, the number of exhibits presented here is simply incredible and all of them could be placed in the territory of 10 such rooms. Entrance cost for adults is 40 hryvnia, for children 20 hryvnia, accompanied by a guide 100 hryvnia. (Translated by Google) The museum premises are small, one might say - only two rooms, but every inch of vertical space is occupied by exhibits. For the first 4-6 stands, the time chronology is observed, then everything is mixed up. All exhibits are provided with succinct signatures, but (and this is a minus) some signs with signatures are made in small print at a distance from the fence sufficient that a person with 100% vision would have to peer closely. Armor, spears, knives, stilettos, shotguns, pistols, cannons, mortars, falconets, automatic firearms, experimental collection and bone ritual weapons - there is something to see. If you are even a little interested in the weapons invented by erect walkers for killing, I recommend stopping by.

So many old weapons in one place are a treasure trove. The child, and we adults too, were impressed. We would like to come back and book a tour. Nestled in the heart of Zaporizhya, the Zaporizhya Art Museum is a delightful treasure trove for art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. This charming museum showcases an impressive collection of over 17,000 exhibits, primarily featuring stunning paintings and sculptures from both Ukrainian and Russian artists spanning the 19th and 20th centuries. During my visit, I was captivated by a unique exhibition that included African and Asian masks alongside an intriguing assortment of shells and insects from exotic locales.

(Translated by Google) The museum houses more than 17 thousand exhibits, mostly paintings, but the museum premises are (for now) small, so the management decided to organize exhibitions in honor of the anniversary/arrival of a particular master or artist. The exhibits are changed approximately every month and a half. I was at the exhibition of Petrykivka painting; the style of “naive creativity” of the Australian artist Victor Moroz; painting on bird feathers. The staff is friendly and polite, the entrance price is cheap - 10 UAH for an adult ticket, and the works are often masterpieces. There are souvenirs for sale.

The Fountain of Life is a stunning centerpiece in a vibrant square, surrounded by intricate stone statues and lively stalls where talented painters showcase their artwork. Nestled within the picturesque Victory Park in Zaporizhzhia, this large ornamental fountain offers an inviting atmosphere for relaxation and outdoor fun. It's an ideal spot for families to enjoy quality time together, as you can feed the numerous doves that flock around or explore the nearby market filled with beautiful paintings and traditional souvenirs.
One of the most beautiful places in the city. the fountain is very big and it looks really unusual. It’s also a perfect place to feed the doves(they are sooo many). During the day you can find some “market” with beautiful paintings and traditional souvenirs . Very cozy place especially if you want a romantic walk or a walk with kids. Furthermore, you have no idea how many bars and restaurants are near to the fountain.

I was pleased with the large number of trash bins and the cleaning staff. Overall, this is the freshest and most organized facility in the city. It's best to visit the museum on weekdays, as many children's groups come on excursions on weekends. Spring water is a delightful treasure for those who seek refreshment and health. Many enthusiasts rave about its unique energy composition, which complements its chemical properties, making it an ideal choice for hydration. Collecting this water directly from the source ensures you experience its purest form—crisp, clean, and full of life. Even after being stored in a dark place for months, spring water retains its refreshing taste and clarity without any unpleasant odors or sediment.

Before dachas appeared in this lowland, there was a flood of the Verkhnyaya Khortitsa River, which flowed (and now flows) into the Dnieper in the area of the island. Baydy (another name is Mala Khortytsya). It is very unpleasant when all sorts of illiterate people come up with names that are beneficial to them or that are advantageous for the sake of time. In Zaporozhye and the region there are many Cossack places and more ancient mounds, rocks, islands, sites, burials... but this place is not one of them. Water is not for everybody. Personally, I don't like it. Like. But the opinion of one person is not an indicator; many locals are delighted with it and come, come in cars, just for this water. Khortytsʹki Plavni is a stunning natural haven nestled within the bustling city of Zaporizhzhia, offering a serene escape from urban life. This expansive river island boasts breathtaking landscapes, tranquil lakes reminiscent of a miniature Switzerland, and lush greenery that invites exploration. While some paths may be overgrown, the enchanting views make every step worthwhile. Visitors can immerse themselves in the soothing sounds of nature and witness wildlife such as deer and foxes roaming freely.
A gem of nature. Zaporizhzha is a heavily industrial city anc you could hardly expect to have such a gem of nature inside the city. Besides being the biggest river island you have a corner with serene lakes like a small Switzerland. Not to mention that you can meet a deer, roe deer or a fox on your way. And half mile away you have ancient skif settlements dating three-four thousand years. Perhaps they knew that was a great llace then as well?

Museum Of Navigation Chaika, located on Khortytsya Island in Ukraine, is one of the most renowned museums in the country. It houses over 32,000 valuable items and is known for its extensive collection of ancient ships, Cossack seagulls, and artifacts retrieved from the depths of the Dnieper River. The museum also features a restoration hangar where boats are refurbished.
Sponsored adequately this place could become one of the most popular 'must visit' places in Ukraine. Guides are divers who pick all the vessels from the bottom of Dnipro themselves. So they have really much to tell you! Let's hope this magnificent place is once noticed by government...

(Translated by Google) The only one in Ukraine and one of the largest Shipping Museums in Europe. Under the same roof as the museum is a restoration hangar where boats are given a second life. The museum is located on Khortytsia, where in 1999 the Cossack “seagull”, the main exhibit of the museum, was raised to the surface. The pavilion is located next to the Equestrian Theatre, but has nothing to do with it. I visited the museum in 2018 and 2020 and noted changes for the better, new stands and new exhibits appeared. The caretaker spoke interestingly about many of them and actually gave a tour. That's why I give it 5 points. Not far from this place there was a shipyard, which was founded on the island of Khortitsa in 1737 during the Russian-Turkish war. The shipyard was built where it was possible to bypass the rapids of the Dnieper and transport the fleet. They built brigantines, as well as kayaks and boats, which were very reminiscent of the famous Cossack “seagulls”. In just two years, more than 400 ships were built, some of them sank during a powerful flood, some were unable to overcome the Dnieper rapids that stood on the way to the Black Sea. And now they are being lifted from the river bottom. A few years after the Cossack "seagull" they found a brigantine, a dowel-boat, a one-day boat and a canoe. Today, the buildings are mothballed and are gradually being restored. The museum's collection includes more than 30 anchors of Cossack "gulls", Russian brigantines and Dutch galleys. Some have no analogues in the whole world. Usually the museum is visited together with the Equestrian Theater. You can get there on your own, although it is difficult. A 20-minute walk from the museum is the village of Ovoshchevodov, where minibuses go. I didn’t go there myself, but I saw a minibus at TsIMezh, the village residents use it to go to work.

(Translated by Google) The Snake Cave is located near the Black Rock tract in the northern part of the island from the Stary Dnieper River. Above it stands a stone Slavic image of a bearded God, which was placed there by the first director of the Khortytsya Museum, Arnold Sokulsky, around 1975. This statue was brought from the mouth of the Vilnyanka River (Vilnyanskyi district of Zaporizhia region), where excavations of a Slavic settlement of the 6th–8th centuries were carried out under his leadership. Access to it is difficult, so almost no one visits it. The famous local historian Yakiv Novytsky, in 1887, described one of the legends of this cave: “While the Cossacks lived here, there were a lot of fish, animals, birds and forests along the Dnieper, and on the steppes such grass grew that when you ride a horse, you can’t even see it. And there were reptiles! .. There were yellow-bellied toads, snakes, and in the cave in the Vyscha Gola of the island of Khortytsia, a snake lived. It didn’t touch anyone – and the Cossacks were not afraid of it. It was said that at night, as it shines, so it would illuminate the Dnieper! The snake did not appear every night, but like this: once a month or for three weeks, and all near the cave called Zmieva. When the Zaporozhians left here to fight the Turks, fish and birds followed them, and all kinds of animals went too. After the Zaporozhians went down, here, on the rocks, something walked and moaned... It was at night "When he cries, his body becomes cold. Then, from the Kichka side, when he starts throwing stones at Khortytsia, when he starts, those stones stick to the Black Rock... It was sad and scary then...!"

At this point, the Dnieper, crashing against the massive edge of Khortytsia, divides into two channels - the narrow rocky Old Dnieper between Khortytsia and the right bank, and the wide spacious New Dnieper between the left bank and the island. Once upon a time, a sandy spit began here, connecting the northern edge of Khortytsia with the stone islands now visible in the direction of the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Plant. The spit was washed away during one of the floods. This place got its name "Sich Gates" thanks to a legend according to which it was possible to get to the Sich only at this place, where the Cossack guard stood. The enemy, not knowing the permitted path, fell into a trap, and the Cossacks who set out on their journey were warned that they would only be able to return through these rocky "gates". Another legend is associated with this place, telling about the test that awaited all those who were going to be initiated into Cossacks. A log was thrown across this gorge, it was carefully smeared with lard, and the test subject had to cross this log from one side of the rock to the other, blindfolded. Those who passed the test were initiated into Cossacks, and those who failed were caught from below and invited to take the test a year later.

Strumok Viktoriya is a hidden gem nestled near the Mennonite embankment, offering breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. This picturesque location is particularly enchanting in the fall when the foliage transforms into vibrant hues. Adventurers may find themselves drawn to Lake Maxima, which can be accessed by crossing the embankment. However, it's worth noting that navigating this area can be tricky; kayakers should exercise caution due to submerged obstacles like tree trunks and snags along the waterway.
(Translated by Google) It's beautiful, but you shouldn't go here in a kayak. There are a lot of snags in the water, and if you go from the north, at the beginning of the path there is a large tree trunk across the stream, you have to go around the shore, dragging the kayak on yourself. The adventure is great, but not for everyone. If you love old cars, you will love this place! I am not a big ‘car guy,’ so it wasn’t a Mecca for me, but it is objectively a good museum. It had a lot of nice old cars from not only the Soviet Union, but also the USA and Europe. Personally, I found the toy and military exhibits more interesting, so even if you aren’t big into cars, there may still be some interesting exhibits if you like Soviet history. There is not a lot in English, but that is fairly standard for museums in the region.

Nice museums with a large collection of automobiles and motorbikes from different regions of the world, most notably the USSR, USA, UK, and Germany. One exhibition hosts a collection of various goods and personal items from the Soviet era. The name "Zaporizhia" refers to the military and political organization of the Cossacks and to the location of their autonomous territory 'beyond the Rapids' (za porohamy) of the Dnieper River. The term "sich" is a noun related to the Eastern Slavic verb sech′ (сѣчь) – "to chop" or "cut"; it may have been associated with the usual wood sharp-spiked stockades around Cossack settlements. Zaporizhia was located in the region around Kakhovka Reservoir in today's central Ukraine (much of its territory is now flooded by the reservoir). The area was also known under the historical term, Wild Fields.

Bohuslayev's Technics Museum is a hidden gem in Zaporizhzhya that showcases an impressive array of aircraft, military vehicles, and vintage motorcycles. This modern museum is a must-visit for enthusiasts of engineering and military history. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by two floors filled with fascinating exhibits— the first dedicated to aviation engines produced locally by the Ukrainian Motor Sich company, while the second floor features an extensive collection of motorcycles alongside additional aviation displays.
It was very surprising to see a such an interesting museum with so many carefully prepared details inside. The museum has two floors. The first floor is about aviation and mostly about the aviation engines that has produced in Zaporizhzhya (today by the Ukrainian Motor Sich company). At the second floor mostly motorcycles are exhibited (some more information about aviation and other things as well). I am very impressed by the style of the exhibition; simple, but very informative. From the level of details that I've seen in the museum, I can say that the people who designed the museum were absolute professionals. I personally enjoyed the time that I've spent in this museum and I would love to see this museum again one day. The museum is itself nearly faultless. One humble suggestion that I can make is; adding 1-2 small screens to the interior. With the help of the screens and simple videos/animations, it would be possible to give better visual information about the functioning of engines and even about the technologies/processes of the engine production.

Dubovyy Hay is a delightful green oasis nestled alongside the Dnieper River, perfect for families seeking affordable summer fun. This charming park features tree-lined paths and bridges that invite leisurely strolls through its mature woodlands. Kids can enjoy nostalgic Soviet-style amusements like a small roller coaster, carousels, and dodgem cars, while the Ferris wheel offers stunning views of the surroundings.
Very nice and quiet, also very clean. Many birds, ducks and swans Take a 30min walk here and you are all relaxed. Enjoyed very much

Not bad. The restoration and cleaning of the lakes is needed. Trade spots have comparatively huge prices. But it's quite and peaceful place. Good for the rest. A lot of trees. In some conditions it looks like a forest and there is a possibility to make a great pictures.

Nice place to walk. Could be in a better shape.

Parents looking for a low-cost way for children to enjoy themselves in summer need look no further than this park next to the Dnieper. When the weather’s warm there are Soviet-style amusements, which are still pretty fun, like a small roller coaster, carousels and dodgem cars. The park has a big lake, which abounds with birdlife in the warmer months. Other than that you have long trails bordered by cool, mature woodland, and a small menagerie of domestic animals. One of these is a shaggy Bactrian camel, a native of the Eurasian Steppe

Decent park with not many interesting features. I enjoyed my time there because of a little bit cleaner air and quite happy atmosphere over this park. I would recommend it to the families with children, because there are some attractions for them. What is more, this park has a fairless wheel which also would be very nice choise to visit.

An island of greenery in the middle of an industrial city, feels like heaven. One can also observe ducks, swans and water rats here. Lots of very old oaks can be found in this grove. There is also a Ferris wheel and amusement rides that kids may enjoy.

Quite old and rundown but nevertheless a good place to walk with family. The key is avoid old Soviet amusement park with dangerous attractions.

The Zaporizhzhia City Children Botanical Garden is a sprawling 15-hectare facility that offers children's gardening programs, greenhouses, and play equipment. It is an ideal destination for families looking to spend quality time together on weekends or for individuals seeking a peaceful retreat amidst nature. The garden boasts an extensive variety of flora both inside and outside the warehouse, making it a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts.
Cozy nice place for everyone or you are a purple making homework from biology or head of the family that reside where to go with children on a weekend. Big size, huge variety of flora inside and outside the warehouse. Nice place for photosessions. Big minus - no parking lot for visitors so it might happen that you leave your car pretty far from entrance.

Churches & Cathedrals
Ukraine has numerous churches that were resurrected after being demolished during Soviet times, and the Holy Protection Cathedral in Zaporizhia was one of the most difficult projects. Initially named St Cyrils Cathedral in 1886, it was tragically demolished in the 1930s. The reconstruction of this cathedral began in 1993, with archived architectural plans and photographs obtained from St Petersburg.
My name is Michael and I came to the Ukraine in July to visit your beautiful country, Two blocks from my hotel was the beautiful Russian orthodox church and I’ve visited there many times. The church is so beautiful and as I walked in it took my breath away with not only its beauty but my respect for our Lord Jesus. Christ is king

Ukraine has many churches that were resurrected after being destroyed in Soviet times, and Zaporizhia’s Holy Protection Cathedral was one of the most challenging projects. It was originally consecrated as St Cyril’s Cathedral in 1886, but met an untimely end when it was pulled down in the 1930s. The project to rebuild the cathedral started in 1993 and archive architectural plans and photographs of the building were tracked down in St Petersburg. Construction would take until 2007, and the new church is almost an exact replica of the one that came before, even down to the vibrant image of the Intercession of the Virgin inside.

(Translated by Google) The Holy Intercession Bishop's Cathedral is a monument of religious architecture and urban planning of local importance. The first church, which was located on the site of today's Holy Intercession Bishops' Cathedral, was built in 1778 mainly from wood. In 1886, on the site of the former Church of the Intercession, the Holy Intercession Cathedral was founded, which was destroyed in the 30s of the 20th century. In 1993, it was decided to recreate the Holy Intercession Cathedral in its original form. Construction of the temple lasted 14 years. Architect Dmitry Romanov found in the Synodal Archives of St. Petersburg photographs of the cathedral, which stood on the site of the reconstruction of the temple before the October Revolution of 1917. The designers studied in detail the architectural features of the church on Cathedral Square and were able to develop drawings for the construction of a new church. The new temple became an exact copy of the main temple of Aleksandrovsk, which was destroyed at the beginning of the twentieth century. Today the temple is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the country, 53 meters high, with a vivid image of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a rare iconostasis in the Ukrainian Baroque style. The iconostasis was probably created in 1730. For more than 200 years it was in the Church of the Archangel Michael in one of the rural parishes of Podolia. It is possible that the Cossacks also prayed in front of the ancient iconostasis to strengthen the Orthodox faith. In 1938, when the church was finally destroyed, the iconostasis ended up in a private collection and was prepared for export abroad. But subsequently it was transferred to the Zaporozhye diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Faith to Everyone😇 and Love❤.

Be sure to come here, one of the best places for leisure in Zaporozhye. (Original)
