National park
Nature & Parks
Mirima National Park, also known as Hidden Valley, is a must-visit destination near Kununurra. The park's sandstone formations offer great opportunities for hiking and photography. While it may not be as extensive as Purnululu National Park, it still provides a sense of wonder with its banded sandstone towers. Visitors can enjoy three short walks through the mini Bungles and take in the stunning views. Additionally, the park offers picnic facilities and graded tracks for easy exploration.
Absolutely stunning national park, beautiful and clear tracks, lots of wild life. Only thing is- watch out for leeches in the top pool. You can see a few waterfalls here and also a cool place to jump off a rock when the water level is high. You’ll need to cross a creek- so wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet.
Marlee C — Google review
The Mirima National Park walking track offers a fantastic way to explore the park's stunning landscapes and unique rock formations. The trails wind through lush vegetation and provide breathtaking views of the surrounding areas, including the impressive Mirima Range. Along the way, informative signs highlight the local flora and fauna, as well as the cultural significance of the site. The well-maintained paths cater to various fitness levels, making it accessible for all nature lovers. Perfect for a day of adventure and relaxation!
Ozzie O — Google review
Easy, well-signed trails located in National Park just outside Kununurra. Great views and walks among the rocks, ridges and native flora. Variety of distance trails all can be completed relatively easily and quickly.
Jack D — Google review
Went at sunset on a Monday evening, walked the short hike to the top of the rocks to see the sunset over the town. It was absolutely lovely and relatively easy. It is $17 per day to enter the park and there is a toilet facility and BBQ area at the bottom of the hike. Lovely cool breeze too. Would recommend having a small picnic on the top too.
K C — Google review
Such a lovely place 3 minutes from town. Well kept tracks, nice scenery, peaceful and not too strenuous. It's not the bungles but it's pretty good.
Pamela R — Google review
I walked here from the Hidden Valley Kununurra Caravan Park. I went at 6 a.m. to enjoy the morning warmth. I did the big trail, and it took me about 1h30 from the parking lot, including breaks to take photos. I left the campground at 5:45 a.m. and came back at 7:50 a.m.

Absolutely fabulous hikes did all 3 ,two yesterday morning and went back to do the bigger one early this morning as it gets hot take plenty of water.

Lookouts
Kelly's Knob, also known as Thegoowiyeng, is a must-visit attraction in Kununurra. It offers stunning 360-degree views of the town, including Lake Kununurra and the Ord River irrigation zone. Accessible by a sealed road, visitors can drive or take a short walk to reach the lookout point. Whether you visit at sunrise or sunset, you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape.
Definitely worth the visit to take in the sunset…short and easy walk to gain access to the lookout although this can get quite crowded during tourist season. For those a little more adventurous try the track / trail from the car park at the back to climb the larger hill for the best views across the whole valley…a few steep steps to get there where the tower is situated.
Trevor S — Google review
Great views from both car park lookout and from the summit of knob (short but hard work hike). The view from the top of the hike/knob is worth the effort but is a narrow/steep rocky path at times. Tricky to find start of trail which isn't well signed through an old pedestrian side gate obscured by trees adjacent to a locked access road gate.
Jack D — Google review
Great views from the very top. Bit of a climb but not too bad. Don't wait too long after the sunsets as it would be difficult coming down in the dark.
Pamela R — Google review
this hill top lookout offer you 360° incredible views over Kununurra township and its surroundings ~ Mirima national park, Ord river, Lily creek lagoon, Elephant rock and Airport etc, especially at sunrise /sunset time. the lower lookout next to car park is also a great spot for sunset if you want to avoid 1.2km steep return hiking. I've visted this site twice during my 3 nights stay in Kununurra, first time by driving and second time by walking from town centre.
Shi Z — Google review
Great spot to view the layout of Kununurra. Looks out over the township and out over Agricultural area through to Ranges.
Christine K — Google review
Absolutely do come up here if you’re in Kunnanura. The views are simply stunning. It’s a little bit of a hike to get up but achievable by most. Even if you somewhat lacking in fitness give it a go, take it slow, it’s worth it. From the top you get 360 views out over kunnanura and the Ord river, the landscape is that stunning stereotypical Kimberley landscape. Beautiful!!
Jason ( — Google review
What a walk to the top. Totally worth the killer legs the next day for sunset
Kylie B — Google review
I thought it would be a great idea for the township to have a lookout that is accessible to all, but alas this is a 1.2km arduous walk and in 39 degrees that’s a no from me.

The Hoochery Distillery, located in Western Australia, is home to the oldest continuously operating still in the region. This quirky distillery produces a variety of spirits including gin, rum, whiskey, and liqueurs using Kimberley rainwater and locally grown ingredients. Visitors can step into the old shed or enjoy the outdoor seating while kids play in the Cubby House. The cafe kitchen offers tempting homemade treats from May to September.
Great experience in a unique distillery with a fun and relaxed vibe. Public-access distillery area and a nice rustic feel made of all recycled local materials. Great variety of gin and rum drinks, with a variety of tasting paddles. Beer and other cocktails also available. Small menu of lunch and cafe food all seemed great quality. Nice place to spend a relaxed lunch and afternoon. Can get very busy, get there early. Distillery tour closed when we visited.
Jack D — Google review
I'll admit that I am not a liquor aficionado, so for me this visit was more about checking out the Hoochery atmosphere and snacks. Friends tried the tastings and the distillery tour and said they enjoyed both. Located in a repurposed large corrogated shed with choice of inside or outside seating. Plenty of off street parking. Gift shop with souvenirs and plenty of bottled options.
Zeglar F — Google review
Went for lunch had brisket tacos delicious Crispy chicken bao buns beautiful. Washed down with Mexican style corn beer crisp and tasty and a pink gin and soda very refreshing. Great rustic bar and large beer garden which is dog friendly. Highly recommend for lunch and a refreshing drink.
John R — Google review
Nice distillery, we did the tour and highly recommend. Daily at 2pm. Gin tasting is nice. Must try the tray of fries and most importantly chocolate rum cake - it is still made by the original owner despite her age. It's delicious! 💕
Lauren B — Google review
Great atmosphere. Do the tour for $20 pay at counter tells you everything about the the process of making the alcohols. Food was good. The rum cake you need to try and the rest of the cakes were good too
Derryn C — Google review
I liked one of the gins, but had no information provided by the person behind the counter. If you put someone behind the counter for tasting, make sure they know the product they are providing tasting plates for. Found some.information inside the menu folder. Perhaps it might be beneficial to hand a laminated tasting sheet with each paddle- might result in more sales.
Elke W — Google review
I went to this venue on a weekday with a local who was friendly with one of the staff. Lovely food - we purchased Tacos, Bao Buns and Sidewinders and we shared a Gin paddle. Good portion size. About $85 for the lot. Nicely presented, very welcoming and efficient team. Clean toilets (super important) complete with instructions about closing the lid to stop the frogs going for a swim. Easy parking. It was a hot and muggy day; the seating area near the bar was quite nice - not too hot and tables well spaced. I was in my first 24 hours in the Kimberley and not acclimatised to the weather at all. Other areas of the venue felt much warmer, so it caters for people who like heat and those who don't. Small gift shop selling alcohol and themed merch.

The park provides a range of accommodation options including waterfront cabins and camping sites. Guests appreciate the friendly staff who go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. The shady swimming pool, clean amenities, and proximity to the water make it an ideal place for relaxation. Visitors also enjoy evening drinks by the river while watching boats on the water.
Great sunsets over Lake Kununurra. Friendly and helpful staff. Very clean cabins. Dog friendly with a long, dog off-leash walk nearby. Maintenance staff were very helpful with local sites to enjoy. There us a lot to explore around Kununurra.
Danny J — Google review
We had a one bedroom cabin. The cabin had a horrible stench to it. We just couldn't eliminate the smell of it during our two day stay. The bed was comfortable. The bunk beds situated in the middle of the cabin makes the area squishy. The location is great, a little out from the main town of Kununurra. The lake is stunning, and you can go for a flick. We will come back :)
Lesty 8 — Google review
The staff at this park were amazing. The location fantastic and we love it. Janine at the front desk was so helpful and her customer service skills amazing. By far she has been the most helpful and best staff member we have come across from all discovery parks. She deserves a pay rise and acknowledgement. Well done Janine excellent work and thank you for making our check in and stay so welcoming.

Outstanding park. Just far enough off the busy highway; just far enough from the centre of town. The park setting is perfect for a sundown drink looking over the river. Faultless service, friendly staff and a great experience.
Bill I — Google review
Beautiful park with massive tree canopies that provide welcome shade, and sitting by the lake when the afternoon breeze kicks in. The park and amenities are very clean. The Discovery staff are a happy bunch and exceptionally helpful. Simply awesome, thank you all.
Trevor T — Google review
Beautiful park on the lake. Amazing sunsets & super clean amenities. Everything at your fingertips. Shops, parks, attractions,& Ivanhoe crossing are all close by. Quiet, serene & just a lovely place to be.
Sharna M — Google review
Way over priced ($94/night) for the quality of the park. The site we were put near had 3 you people staying in an old horse float truck with 3 saffies and 3 cats. All around their site was dog poo. Been there that long some of it was chalk that's how much the staff took notice. (Dog poo doesn't turn to chalk overnight ).The next day they left while we were out told staff and handyman said I can't pick that that up I'll just hose it in. Hosed for 1 minute and left. This park isn't worth half the amount of money. Nothing like the photos we saw when we booked.
John A — Google review
Stayed on powered site. Site was large, amenities modern and clean. Park a bit dusty with all internal roads being dirt and most sites the same. But, hey, that's northern Australia in the Dry

Ivanhoe Village Caravan Resort is located on the outskirts of town and offers a variety of accommodation options, including simple bungalows and spacious suites. The resort features an outdoor pool, shared kitchens, and a playground for guests to enjoy. With numerous sites that extend to the local football oval during peak season, the resort provides ample space for visitors. Under new management, the park has been beautifully maintained with clean facilities and friendly caretakers who ensure a pleasant experience for guests.
We absolutely loved our stay at Ivanhoe Caravan Park and couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the staff genuinely care about the park and their guests. They were friendly, welcoming, and always easy to contact if we needed anything which made everything feel relaxed and stress-free. We were especially impressed with how dog-friendly the park is. Without even needing to ask, we were placed right near the designated grassy dog area, which made it so convenient for us and our pups. It really felt like our dogs were welcomed and thoughtfully considered, which means the world to us when travelling. Our camp site had the most beautiful, well-kept grass, soft underfoot and such a treat compared to other places we’ve stayed. You can really tell the grounds are maintained with care. The facilities were also spotless and clearly signed, making everything easy to find and use. Another standout was the great communication throughout our stay. We received text messages to let us know when pop-up food vans or events were happening, which was such a thoughtful touch and really added to the experience. The whole atmosphere felt safe and comfortable. It's close to the city, but just far enough out that you feel like you can truly unwind. You can tell the team at Ivanhoe Caravan Park really take pride in what they do, and it shows in every detail. We’ll definitely be back and so will our dogs!
Marie G — Google review
Lovely clean cabins and park, unfortunately we could only use 1 gas burner to cook with as others would not work properly, hot water was a bit slow to come through but eventually worked. Laundry amenities has no dryer but luckily we had a hot day and clothes dried on the lines that were available. Would definitely come back here again.
Leanne H — Google review
We recently had an unexpected need to stay in Kununurra for almost 2 weeks. Although there was availability at any of the parks in town, Ivanhoe Village was the one we picked. Quiet, clean, tidy, green lawns and good value, it's directly across the road from the Kununurra Showgrounds and is a short 10 minute walk into town if you're so inclined. Nat & Shane were wonderful hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The State of Origin telecast onto the inflatable big screen was a win too. We'd definitely recommend Ivanhoe Village and, if we were travelling through Kununurra again, would happily stay.
Craig S — Google review
We booked a powered site for 3 nights. Very friendly staff. Lovely shady quiet park. The pool and surrounds was perfect. Good laundry and line facilities. Would definitely stay there again should be return to Kununurra.
Amanda B — Google review
Stayed for two nights and had a great experience. We had an ensuite site that was clean and fully functional. The groundsman was extremely helpful and had a fantastic sense of humour, which made the stay even more enjoyable. Watched the State of Origin in a makeshift outdoor theatre—such a fun and unique touch! Would definitely stay here again without hesitation.
Robert G — Google review
Very good place to stay. Felt safe. Friendly and efficient staff. Nice pool for a refreshing dip. Camp Kitchen is small but good. I stayed in an En-Suite site which was nice. Maybe some stepping stones between the slab and en-suite door would be a good idea.

We have spent an extended time here and have found this a beautiful caravan park with large areas for caravan and car. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The grounds are lush and green and well maintained. The ablutions are clean but could be updated at some time. Overall a restful stay.

Kununurra Town Caravan Park & Villas is a well-maintained and secure park with friendly and helpful staff. The receptionist, Nancy, offered affordable rates for powered and non-powered sites. The manager was accommodating, allowing guests to charge their phones without extra fees. The park also provides pet-sitting services for visitors wanting to explore the national park.
Great leafy little van park in Kununurra. Staff were delightful, amenities clean and a fab location to stock up the van. Efficient communication from the check in staff and especially grateful they let us check- in early so we could drop off the car for the day to get its new ‘shoes’

This Caravan Park has a great location right in Kununurra. The service has been exceptional. We received confirmation emails prior ro arrival and were welcomed upon arrival. More importantly, we requested dog sitting services and Nancy the manager went out of her way to introduce herself when we arrived so that the dogs would be more comfortable the next day. It was evident that the dogs were well looked after, when we collected them at the end of the day. I would recomend this intimate park as a place to stay and will visit again.

Located only 5mins walk to shops and pub. Amenities were good and clean. Nice and quiet with lots of shady trees and a concrete slab. Our favourite thing about this park is the doggy play pen, located on the edge of the park near the entrance, we were able to let the dogs off in the playpen to do their business on the ample grass and trees. Bags were provided and bins to dispose were just outside the pen.

Black Rock Falls is a picturesque spot located near Kununurra, offering refreshing swimming and picnic areas during the wet season and after heavy rains. There was still some water in the pool when we visited in late July. You might visit because of the many butterflies (at this time of the year?)

If you have spare time while your around Kunnanura black rock falls is definitely worth a look. You can do a nice little scenic circuit from Kunnanura to the falls and back to Kunnanura via the Ivanhoe crossing on the Ord river( know conditions on the causeway first, the water can get deep)

Mayiba, also known as Middle Springs, is a stunning spot located near Black Rock Falls. It's worth the detour to explore this picturesque location. The area offers beautiful waterholes that flow straight after the rain, creating a divine rock pool for swimming and enjoying the spectacular scenery. Accessible via a 4WD track from Black Rock Falls, Mayiba provides an opportunity for a refreshing swim and cool off in its tranquil waters.
Beautiful. The pool just start to filled up. Not much flowing above the first waterfall and pool but definitely worth a hike up for the view
Banana J — Google review
Middle Springs, located just outside the charming town of Kununurra in Western Australia, is a true hidden gem that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, adventure, and relaxation. This picturesque spot is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, providing a refreshing escape from the heat and a chance to immerse yourself in the stunning Kimberley landscape. The springs are part of the Ord River system and feature a series of crystal-clear pools connected by small cascades and gentle waterfalls. The water is cool and inviting, making it an ideal spot for swimming, especially during the hot dry season. The natural rock formations surrounding the pools create a beautiful and serene environment, perfect for unwinding and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. One of the highlights of Middle Springs is its accessibility. The site is relatively easy to reach, with a short drive from Kununurra followed by a manageable walk to the springs. The trail is well-marked and offers scenic views of the surrounding bushland, adding to the overall experience. Once you arrive, you’ll find plenty of spots to relax, whether it’s on the smooth rocks by the water’s edge or in the shade of the surrounding trees. For the more adventurous, Middle Springs offers opportunities for exploration. You can follow the water upstream to discover smaller pools and cascades, each with its own unique charm. The area is also great for photography, with the clear water, vibrant greenery, and dramatic rock formations providing endless opportunities for stunning shots. One thing to keep in mind is that Middle Springs is a natural and relatively undeveloped site, so there are no facilities like toilets or picnic tables. Visitors should come prepared with plenty of water, snacks, and any other essentials. It’s also important to practice Leave No Trace principles to help preserve the beauty of this special place for future visitors.

You will need a 4WD to get close to this Spring. There are 2 Creek crossings if you follow the sigh from the main road. It had a bit of debris on the surface however I went in for a dip. Apparently there are fresh pools if you want to walk up on top. We chose not to go up.

Sandy track not recommended for sedans. Our Ford transit only just made it through. Beautiful day area and a few small areas to free camp along the road for small set ups. Not recommended for normal caravans. 4x4 and offroad campers only. Well worth a look! We paddled in the water and it was beautiful and cool. (July 2018)

Lake Argyle, located just 72 kilometers from Kununurra town, is a stunning destination to visit. During the wet season, the lake fills up and its waters flow to the Ord dam. The main Ord River Dam holds back most of the lake's waters, making it a beautiful and scenic place to explore even during the dry season. Visitors can enjoy stress-free holidays with great service and breathtaking views all around.
Great trip with Lake Argyle Kimberley Durack boat cruise. Chris & Malcolm very good hosts with lots of interesting information.

Waringarri Aboriginal Arts is a significant art center in Kununurra, established in the late 1970s as the first wholly Indigenous-owned art center in the Kimberley region. It celebrates Miriwoong cultural identity and supports over 100 artists working in various mediums such as painting, boab engraving, textiles, and sculpture.
Art centre tour was excellent. Chris our guide explained the history and introduced us to the artists who described their work. It was an honour and privilege to listen to the stories. So much talent and great work in keeping culture, art, stories, song and language alive. Meeting elder Ben Ward and hearing his achievements was truly special and seeing the next generation on their journey. Highly recommend

Great opportunity to see authentic art. Just wished there were more smaller, portable, affordable offerings to pack in suitcase!

There was lot of paintings for sale. All kinds small and big. Wished to find some boomerangs or dijiridoows… unfortunately there was not to find such kind of things.
I-UP — Google review
Chris our guide was extremely knowledgeable as he guided us through the national park, discussing plants and their usage. We had a taste of some native foods and learnt the medicinal uses. The Waringarri Aboriginal Arts centre is growing and new mediums are being discovered, textiles, pottery as well as the traditional paintings. We ended with Chris singing to us and his nephew playing the didgeridoo. We sampled damper and honey. We met the local bower bird who nests nearby. Sitting under the trees listening was magical. Reflecting back on our time with Chris who is very passionate about the centre and its history, I hope more people experience this amazing tour!
Annette T — Google review
This is an Aboriginal owned and operated gallery and art centre. 55% of each sale goes to the local artist. Much of the local art is still done in ochre. Great place.

Beautiful gifts and clothing available along with artwork. Definitely worth a visit.

By far the best way to experience a Kimberley sunset is listening to the sound of the Didg and Ted share some stories from times gone by. Highly recommend!! Thank you Ted, Pete & Lisle for a fantastic afternoon!

Swim Beach Park, located in the town centre, offers canoe hire and a close proximity to the lake's swimming beach. This beach, aptly named Swim Beach, is a controlled area due to the presence of crocodiles. Visitors can find guidelines for swimming displayed near the car park. The park also provides a safe environment for swimming with clean toilets and picnic tables available. Additionally, it offers attractions such as watching Kimberley Air sea planes operate on the lake and walking trails.
Great park with safe swimming, water is great! Can watch Kimberley Air sea plane operate in the lake while having a picnic and swim. Off leash dog area and walking trails from here. Clean toilets and tables.

A nice walk/cycle from the golf course. Lots of birds to see and listen to, particularly the Corellas. A small play park for young children and some people swim here.
Rachel R — Google review
Lovely tranquil shaded grassed area for playing in the lake, putting a boat in, catching up with dog friends. Few lovely afternoons here sitting in shaded areas provided. Watching all sorts of birds and kids and dogs frolicking

Really easy place to be. Good people and great park. Most people that lined up outside got a site.

A sort-after location for caravan travellers. No pre-bookings are taken, so be at the gate for check-in at 10 am to avoid disappointment. $45 per night, basic amenities, but clean.
BJ P — Google review
This is an amazing place to camp. We are leaving tomorrow, however we have enjoyed every minute of this week at the showgrounds. The caretaker never stops working. She is friendly and efficient, her team do everything to help improve your stay. The showers are the best I've had at any caravan park. Thank you.
Margaret K — Google review
Great spot to stop in under the magnificent shade trees. Camp host was fantastic and helpful. Turned up at the right time to watch AFLW and AFL (under lights) matches . Nothing like local footy.

Great spot .40 a night .power water toilets showers.safe and secure. Right beside the oval .dog friendly .camp host was great .sites good amd some bigger 1s for larger rigs We had 22 ft van with cruiser

Old lady there with a wipper snipper early in morning to late afternoon. Lady would stop you wanting to know everything about you. Had her grandson in the bucket of a tractor driving around annoying people. $40 a night for filthy toilets/showers. Asked for more paper towel after using the last piece on day 1. Still not replaced on day 4. Codes to get into amenities but door always ajar. So no point having codes. Town was an eye opener but ok. Would not stay here again.
Lynda B — Google review
Fantastic place! Caretakers are the best. Clean spaces with great views
Emiliano O — Google review
Nice place to stop. 40 dollars a night with power and drinking water. Good clean amenities. Dog friendly - they're even allowed to play on the oval as long as you pick up after them. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.
