Located in Dili, East Timor, Castaway Bar and Restaurant is a popular spot among expats. It's known for its extensive beer and cocktail selection, with the giant margarita being a standout. The beachfront location offers a relaxed atmosphere with live music sessions and bonfires under the stars. Visitors can also enjoy browsing through a shelf of books available on-site. This bar is perfect for unwinding and enjoying good vibes by the sea.
The steak was delicious, juicy and medium well, and the Lot Beef Burger was huge! It’s so filling that you’ll stay full for up to eight hours.

Great value for money. Room was nice Mary the manager was lovely. The bacon and egg muffins are good for breakfast. Coffee is good.

Above diving shop. Many choices to eat and not too expensive. The employees are hard worker than other restaurants.

Really a nice place with nice view on the sea. Very good food and service. It's possible to pay with credit card.
Peter — Google review
Went here twice in 4 nights as the food is amazing and the service is just as good. The place is upstairs and has a nice view of the beach. The burgers and pizza are well worth it. Prices are decent as well. Would highly recommend 👌
Jarrod S — Google review
I went there and announced to the waiters that I wanted to eat, they showed me a table to seat, then I waited, 15min later I asked a waiter to give me the menu and gave it to me. Couple of other people arrived in the meantime, and surprisingly they got a menu and ordered right away... Ah and some RATS came out from the pillars to eat some food that dropped on the floor. I waited in total 45min before going somewhere else where I was served and well welcomed. As I wanted to give them more chances and told myself that it was unfortunate, I tried 2 more times and same result... Seems that they don't care about you if you are just a lone guy who wants to eat something (not enough money for them ?) Avoid this place if you want a nice meal
Ywen M — Google review
we order quite a number of food, only the carbonara is disappointing, the rest is good. they have live band and the price is affordable for expat. mostly foreigner. be prepared to wait awhile for your food
Jason H — Google review
Food is ok, price is not cheap as all other joints around Dili. Coast-front location with sea breeze is nice, good place to chill out. Located on 2nd floor, can be windy sometimes. Take too long to serve after order, also quite common amongst other places in Dili....

Agora Food Studio is a pioneering establishment in Timor Leste, known for its commitment to sustainable and organic food. Embracing the farm-to-table concept, this social enterprise offers innovative takes on traditional Timorese and Southeast Asian dishes using locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant also serves as a training ground for aspiring local chefs and food entrepreneurs. While the prices may be on the higher side, patrons can expect high-quality, clean food while supporting the local community and environment.
Lunch at Agora was excellent! The food here is local and delicious plus I love the mission of empowering Timorese with the education to start their own restaurants benefiting local farmers. This place is making a positive impact in the community and is worth supporting!
Amanda H — Google review
The exotic cuisine was a new experience for us. The fish was incredibly fresh and delicious. It was one of the best meals of our trip to Timor-Leste.
Supoj B — Google review
One of my favourite places in Timor. The new location is great, so tranquil and lush. Staff are always friendly and kind, and the food is superb! Always lots of vegan and plant-based options, from fresh, local produce. Thank you Agora 🙏🏼
Bella B — Google review
I hate to say that I did not enjoy the food as much as I thought I would. The waiter did clearly say they used coconut oil but I must have missed that detail. I’m no fan of coconut oil so I admit that to be my own fault. My partner on the other hand, loved the food. The juices are fresh, and the local fruit platter with honey and milk is refreshing and a nice treat at the end of the meal. The ambience of the place is nice with an AC indoor room (perfect to beat the heat). The staff were friendly and understanding, I hope they didn’t take any offence to me not finishing my meal. I hope to come back and try something else on the menu, the other meals looked delicious. Best of luck Agora, I hope to try again soon.
Gabriel S — Google review
I agree with Rachel Ho and Gabriel Samuel. The staff and the place is really good BUT the food did not suit my taste except for their drinks. I came here due to recommendations from blogs and ChatGPT but I regret that. 😂 I was looking for Ikan Sabuko and Batar Da’an but those are not available here.
Kim H — Google review
We probably came at the wrong time in between meal times. Lovely atmosphere. Menu looked nice but we only wanted a little something with coffee and it was limited- no reflection on the place just an odd time. Would like to try again.

This is a special place. Some of the best food I’ve had anywhere. Wildly innovative, healthy, flavorful and with unique timoran flavors you likely won’t get anywhere else. Easily the best food I ate in Dili. Thank you!

Thai restaurant
Little Pattaya Restaurant is a charming spot located on the foreshore at the eastern end of Dili township, offering a delightful mix of Thai and Lebanese cuisine. The menu features an extensive selection of dishes from both culinary traditions, with plenty of vegetarian options available. The restaurant also boasts a separate menu for its Bali-resort-style beach seating area, which includes tempting options like fried tofu snacks. Guests can enjoy a diverse drink selection that includes cocktails, wine, and beer.
Delicious Thai food in Dili with relaxing beach view to match. Pad Thai with Prawns and Green Curry with beef and rice went down very nicely with an ice cold beer.
Ainsley G — Google review
Update: dropping to two and a half stars. I ordered their $12 ribs. What came was so disappointing I sent it back (a first for me in 3 years). Photo of ribs included. It looked nothing like the beautiful bbq ribs on the menu, what came was a small plate of boiled rib pieces. No sign of bbq. Not worth the price. The Asian dishes are the better way to go at this place. ------ Has a nice Ocean View. The food is simple and common. The decorations are quaint. Could be considered a romantic place to go to. Is able to host large events with advance planning. The toilet facilities are in need of an upgrade.
Mark H — Google review
I found the grilled fish to be quite expensive. The Tom Yum Soup was not to my standards. And the other foods I've tried here were just average. The service is also average, almost bad. The restaurant doesn't seem very clean. Besides the Thai menu, they also have a Lebanese menu. One good thing about this place: it is by the beach, so you can enjoy the "beautiful" brown sea. If you plan to come here, remind yourself to lower your expectations.
Nai-Tú — Google review
Nice place and alright service. Probably quite average Thai food. However, this was the best food we had in Timor Leste.

Beautiful and comfortable setting by the waterfront, and decent Thai food

Great location. Ok food. Small portion/size. Ok Service. Simple n nicely decorated. Not well maintained, unfortunately. A bit costly for the size,

Came here for lunch because other places were closed. The food was good. However, in the afternoon you can see clearly that this place is almost like a run-down. I could barely eat because flies were flying around my food. Waitted for the staff to do something, but no they did not. So i had to ask for candles.

Perched on the fifth level of the Hotel, Panorama Restaurant & Sky Bar is a trendy spot in Timor offering breathtaking ocean views from its Sky Garden Terrace. The outdoor lounge provides an ideal setting to enjoy Dili's finest selection of wine, spirits, and cocktails while taking in the stunning natural surroundings. This rooftop venue also hosts live music performances and offers a perfect vantage point for witnessing mesmerizing sunsets over the city skyline.
Food is great. I like Gado-gado, Pasta, and some of their special menu.
Ian K — Google review
It's a nice "destination" place but the food is quite variable: have eaten here a number of times. Agree with review re cheese on seafood pasta - a travesty - but when not in Rome I guess...(I've yet to experience good pasta in Dili). Probably best sticking to burgers or Indonesian food. Today's salmon donburi special was an odd concoction with lots of onions, egg and cauliflower (nothing like advertised). Food could definitely be improved. Service is very good.
Viv — Google review
Good service and food. Dishes have several size options and they are all generous in size. Food is delivered quick and usually the restaurant is not too busy. Cold bunting served on tap. Pricey with dishes around $12-15.
Greg W — Google review
Loved having sunrise breakfasts here looking at the beautiful views of the mountains and city of Dili. The salmon I had for dinner was delicious! The staff are all very friendly providing exceptional service! 👌🏻
Tony P — Google review
Pizza was absolute trash and undercooked. Staff does not properly explain the happy hour so you end up paying things at full price. I know there's not many options in Dili but that's still no reason to have such a shitty bar. Stay away if you can.
Siemon P — Google review
This grilled chicken dish is the best !! Has some Korean style sauce, awesome. This 10 dollar dish also comes with sauteed water spinach (kang kong - my fav vegie!!), tofu, tempeh, rice sprinkled with pieces of fried garlic, a piece of lemon and a bit of Indonesian spice chili sauce (on a separate sauce plate) ♡
Sanghwa L — Google review
Nice place to get lunch or dinner. On the weekend evenings it may be the most happening place in Dili with live music and happy hours. Great place for the occasional social event. This is a mildly upscale restaurant bar complete with cloth napkins wine glasses and middle-range fair. Happy hour price for a bintang beer is $2.10 happy hour is from 5 p.m. to 7 pm. The restaurant has one of the best views of Dili and the mountains that surround the small city. You can easily see Atauro Island and Cristo Rei (Christ statue). Sometimes for lunch they have a buffet that's pretty good.

Restaurant
Dilicious Timor is a beloved dining spot in Dili, renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and the culinary talents of chef Cesar Gaio. This charming restaurant takes pride in showcasing the rich local produce of Timor-Leste, offering an array of dishes that highlight fresh ingredients sourced from nearby markets. Guests can savor delightful stir-fried mushrooms from Baucau, handmade coconut-sago pancakes, and creamy porridges made with local maize and mung beans.
The place itself is not very fancy, and you'd probably never stop here, but that would be one big mistake, as the food here was amazingly delicious 😋 We were brought here by our guide and driver Guido (he's the best!), who said we're going to lick our fingers up to the elbows. And he was right. I can't recommend enough their fish soup! It's huge, rich, full with fish pieces, and so so good. Their eggplant curry is also the best. The tofu, the pumpkin soup, their grilled fishes, everything is extremely well cooked and so tasty. I would highly recommend sitting outside if the weather allows it, as the interior is nothing special, but the view outside is just nice, especially close to sunset. Go there hungry and enjoy their food!
Anna A — Google review
Dilicious is one of the places I often go to for food. The dishes are delicious, with rich local flavors from Timor-Leste and plenty of options to choose from. My favorites are the fish soup, tukir, fish saboko, grilled octopus, and the curry soup made with cow’s intestines. It’s always refreshing to sip on a fresh cold coconut while waiting for your meal. Their desserts are also great and truly taste local—as they should. I recommend this place to anyone traveling to Timor-Leste or even locals looking for a good meal. They also serve excellent chicken porridge. The customer service is friendlier than at most restaurants I’ve been to in Dili. The staff always do their best to give you a memorable experience. Well done!
Aderito M — Google review
High quality, healthy food with an affordable price tag! I'm glad I chose this restaurant in Dili to experience some of its local cuisines. The staffs are super friendly and takes great care of its customers, great hospitality! I tried their tomato tofu and braised chicken, both are very good. The tomato tofu is a great vegetarian option for local food. It's also super healthy as evident by the generous portion of salads and brown rice. The tofu dish itself is has an interesting yet delicious taste. My favourite is definitely the braised chicken. As a basil lover, I appreciate the use of it in the sauce, the chicken meat is super tender too. The vege side dish has a savoury taste that's pretty appetising too. Their parking lot is actually right behind the building, it's guarded so you don't have to worry about petty theives. Highly recommended to try it out if you're in Dili!
Yuhng Y — Google review
If you're looking to try authentic local food in Timor-Leste, this restaurant is a must-visit. What stood out to me the most was the thoughtful menu — each dish is listed by its traditional local name, followed by a clear explanation in English. It’s such a great way to learn about the cuisine and culture while actually understanding what you’re ordering. The food itself was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can tell they take pride in preserving traditional recipes. Whether you're new to Timorese food or already a fan, this place offers an experience that’s both educational and incredibly tasty. Warm, friendly service and a cozy atmosphere make it even better. I left full, happy, and more connected to the local culture. Would definitely return!
Aida K — Google review
A nice local restaurant in a good location that has a range of local dishes and drinks among other western fusion style options. I was recommended this place by a couple of friends and a tour guide and it didn't disappoint. The manager was very helpful and each time a i came in would recommend different combinations of local dishes and drinks. I had a couple of lunches and dinners here. For me it was a short walk to get here or a microlet if really wanted. And it was handy that the kitchen was open till late evening. The atmosphere was quite good and evenings would have live music. Definitely highly recommended for a local meal
Delan A — Google review
Free iced water is provided here. Went on a Sat morning and the place only had 2 - 3 customers. Ordered an Americano and the local porridge. For $7 the porridge is quite expensive and nothing special
Eugene A — Google review
This was a great find while in Dili, and I was down to it by its fun name. The restaurant is on a Main Street. I was there a bit early for dinner. I was quickly seated. And asked for recommendations. I went with Fish cakes and traditional beef with rice. Both were tasty and had good mix of spices and flavors. I enjoyed the decor. The tables are sewing machine bases, and there’s sewing related decorations as well. There’s outside area too. Which seemed nice. The service was friendly and prices were very affordable. I liked the overall experience. By the time I was leaving other ppl (mostly foreigners) were beginning to trickle in. I figure it gets busy during actual dinner hours. Highly recommended.

Incredible food! Best I’ve eaten in Timor Leste. Tommy is a great host and the menu is varied, different and has something for everyone. The breadfruit quesadillas for starters were amazing, and the beef rendang and pumpkin ravioli were sensational. Great place to eat in Dili!!!

Nestled in the heart of Timor-Leste, Pro-Ema Restaurant School stands out as a remarkable initiative that empowers young Timorese women through free vocational training and personal development. This unique restaurant not only serves as an educational platform but also delights diners with its diverse menu featuring high-quality lunches inspired by various cuisines, including Italian and French themes. The dishes are affordably priced without compromising on taste or portion size, making it a fantastic spot for both locals and travelers seeking familiar flavors.
An absolute “must-do” when in Dili. The food here is delicious, beautifully presented and you will not leave hungry. Cocktails, wine, beer and soft drinks complement the food perfectly. Service is attentive and efficient. The kitchen team worked hard to get meals out quickly and perfectly plated. My group ordered everything from the menu and we all had food envy when we saw each other’s dishes. But when we ate our own, we were well satisfied. I will be back!

The best Steak Restaurant in town! We always go there whenever we are craving for delicious meals and desserts. It's my wife's favourite restaurant. On that day, we ordered "Fillet Mignon and Picanha", the meat was so juicy, medium well, and the dessert are good looking presentation and tasty! The services are excellent.
Delivio ( — Google review
Always book by WhatsApp, walk-ins hardly get a table. Staff are friendly and helpful. There is a free salad bar while waiting. Sometimes the steak isn’t cooked as requested and a few dishes have too much flavor enhancer. Still, desserts are a must and Pro-Ema remains my go-to for a proper dinner in Dili.
Why J — Google review
Run by an NGO of the same name that teaches locals Western Cooking and food service, Pro-Ema is a great place to grab more familiar food to those coming from overseas. Food's price is a little more on the expensive side relative to most restaurants in the vicinity, but well worth it. Portions are just as big as any other place's, the menu has a variety of meals, desserts and drinks, and taste great. The fish and prawn in coconut cream is my personal recommendation. The service staff are friendly and upfront with what is and isn't available, but the food can take a while to arrive, per the norm in most restaurants. Atmosphere was welcoming and cooling. Interior was spotless and air conditioned, allowing for a pleasant dining experience at one's own pace. Plus a gift shop full of handicraft outside.

I would give six stars out of five if I could! This restaurant was one of the best places I’ve ever visited in TL. I didn’t make a reservation in advance, but they still managed to prepare a table for us. The steak and seafood were beautifully cooked, and the taste was excellent. You must try the dessert as well — it’s beautifully decorated and tastes amazing. Definitely a satisfying place!
Jisuk J — Google review
Always impeccable flavour! Organised restaurant, always with everything very well done. All the waiters and attendants are super attentive and friendly. I thought it would be difficult to find a place that had milk-free options for allergy sufferers. But at ProEma they are always careful. Even when I don’t realise there’s milk on the plate I ordered, they always come back and let me know. The flavour of the food is very good! It’s been a while since I felt the taste of a Brazilian bean, and here I could feel this Brazilian taste at home. ❤️

Nestled within the Discovery Inn in Dili, Diya Restaurant is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. On my third visit, I indulged in their signature dish, Ikan Sabako—a delightful fillet of fish bathed in a creamy coconut and cheese sauce, infused with aromatic bay leaves and spices. Accompanied by sautéed bitter greens like papaya leaves and water spinach, it was a true taste of Timor.

Best bar in Dili. Its that simple. Service is top notch. Food is amazing. Drinks are cold. Prices are reasonable. But the best part is the on beach setting. You can eat or drink on the beach and enjoy the amazing Dili sunsets. A MUST visit when in Dili

BLT was good and large. friendly owner and server. place is large with a pool table and big parking lot. points off for this annoying local guy who sat at my table and bothered me for 15 mins while the staff ignored him and didn’t help Me out but also an extra star for mosquito spray at every table. good place to go after seeing Christo. go for the food but the rest is average.

Caz Bar is iconic, as are Dino and the team. Always friendly and efficient, Caz Bar is basic but good and the perfect place to watch the sunset. Honestly I come here for the vibe and atmosphere, not so much the food. Having said that, I order the Buddha bowl every single time and it’s a generous portion with lots of fresh ingredients, goes well with a fresh coconut!
Bella B — Google review
Try the hamburger, it's very good! Espectacular sunsets! It has tables by the sea and inside the establishment too, it has a pool table, bathroom and parking. The quality of service depends a lot on the mood and personality of each of the waiters, in short: you are left to your own luck in this respect.

Osteria Italiana is a charming haven for those yearning for authentic Italian cuisine in Southeast Asia. Nestled conveniently near Pantai Kelapa, this cozy eatery offers a delightful escape with its handmade pastas and wood-fired pizzas that transport you straight to Italy. The inviting atmosphere makes it perfect for couples, families, or friends looking to enjoy a meal together.
The only Italian place I’ve been to in Dili but so good went back second night in a row to grab the same mushroom pizza and eggplant salad. Super service. Rustic decor (there’s a small grocery close-by stocked with standard American Italian Korean and Aus products, and a Mexican place you can order from too to your table). Highly recommended!
Sa D — Google review
One of the few places in town that offer delivery. They're known for their Pizza. I'm a big fan of the pesto Pizza. Pasta dishes are also highly recommended but the difference in size between a small and a large is negligible so you're better off actually ordering the small. They used to have a seared tuna salad which was fantastic but I haven't seen it on the menu recently. They sell pizzas for about $15. Water is a buck and soda water is two. The atmosphere and decor reminds you of a small little restaurant in Italy, you can look right into the kitchen through the glass panes. There is booth seating or table seating with fans too cool you. One major downsize is it's very close to a noisy and dusty road. They have a room in the back that can be rented for events. This room includes a full bar. You can hire a dj too. Their service during lunch time is inconsistent, there are times that you get your lunch right away and times where you can easily wait for an hour. They really need to work on this. Great restaurant. Great food. Try the spaghetti pasta with meatballs. Above average service. Unfortunately, due to its location, you can hear the unbearable noise of cars and motorbikes passing on the road. Very clean and dry toilets for a restaurant in Timor-Leste.

Located right in front of Pantai Kelapa, this place serves italian food. Service is superb, staff are friendly, and they accomodated our request for a quick meal - we only had 20 minutes to eat cause we had a movie to catch. They gave us free soup, which was very tasty. Food is delicious and quite pricey. The place is neat and clean, but a bit dark. Perhaps it would look better in the daylight. Good place for couples, friends, and families.

Curry Box in Dili is likely the top Indian eatery in town, offering delectable curries, fresh and warm nan bread, and delicious lassies. The restaurant is neat and the staff promptly attends to customers. While it may not compare to other Indian establishments in Southeast Asia, it fulfills all expectations for its location. The service is satisfactory despite some delays in food delivery.
For Dili, this is probably the best Indian restaurant in town. The curries taste great, the nan fresh and warm, and the lassies delicious. The restaurant is clean and the staff responsive. It can’t compare to other Indian restaurants in Southeast Asia but for where it’s at, it meets all expectations. The service is adequate though food took a long time to arrive. Staff could be more warm and friendly but they get the job done. The biryani is the one dish that I felt they could do better to improve the quality and texture.

Excellent, genuine Indian food. The breads are especially delicious. Note that they have just moved premises, a couple off shops down from where they were before
David K — Google review
It certainly is a good option for Indian food in Dili, if they stopped adding MSG in their food and reduced the amount of oil, it will be even better.
S. E — Google review
Nice small restaurant and genuine Indian food. The vegetable Kohalpuri was nice. But what was also equally nice was Chef came came and said some ingredients were unavailable and gave a list of what they were substituting. Honesty plus. The mutter pani had many layers of flavour (a bit over sweet). The food was piping hot and very nice. Will visit again.

One of the best Indian Foods restaurant at Dili. Located at unit CBD2 opposite the famous Timor Plaza, guest could easily identify the eatery. We have the tandoori chicken, house prawns, lambs and chicken. Also the Nan Bread, is really yummy!!
Francolanis T — Google review
One of the more upscale indian restaurant in Dili. Food taste is quite good. Beef masala is soft. Sometimes the food was served cold, price wise is slightly above average otherwise it is a good indian restaurant to go to. Now they serve lunch boxes at usd5 per box which is quite reasonable....
Charles T — Google review
The non-Indonesian restaurant that we visit regularly because of its halal. Might be the best Indian restaurant in Dili, and East Timor. Our favourite are fried rice, briyani rice, cheese naan and beef curry. They provide lunch box menu as well, $5 each. Typically need quite long time to cook the food. Delivery order is availabe.
Reananda P — Google review
Food poisoned twice. No joke. We used to go there regularly. Wife and I ate there in Dec. 2016, and we were sick for three weeks. I tried it again about 6 months later, and fell sick a second time. Both times it was the chicken tikka masala. It's sad because I used to love this place, but I can never go back after getting so sick. I hope they improve their food safety.

Aroma Cafe is a delightful gem that perfectly captures the essence of local flavors while supporting the community. This charming spot not only offers a fantastic all-you-can-eat buffet lunch, but it also plays an important role in training local Timorese and aiding victims of violence through its partnership with Casa Vida. The atmosphere is inviting, making it an ideal place to relax with friends or enjoy some quiet time over coffee and snacks.
Don't judge a book by its cover. Small in size, but big in quality. Came here for a birthday lunch and the food was superb. Wish I could have had room for more food so I could have a bite of all. Definitely recommended!
Nai-Tú — Google review
Came here because of a friend's recommendation. Had a lunch buffet and was blown away by every single dish. The highlight of the buffet was the carrot pudding (a pudding form of carrot cake). It is not overwhelmingly sweet nor dry. I especially love the crust and the bananas used to sweeten the dessert. The fish curry was also a great contender. Seafood was fresh, curry was spiced well, not spicy (which totally suits my palate) but the spices certainly pack a flavourful punch. The best part of it all is that proceeds support the work of Casa Vida, and it is a meaningful cause.

Aroma cafe supports the training of local Timorese and Casa Vida, an NGO that rescues and reintegrates victims of violence. The food is great and the service is first class! Helder the chef is extremely accommodating and welcoming. US$15 for an all you can eat buffet lunch including drink and dessert. The restaurant is super clean and has a great vibe to chill and eat with friends or just hang out for a coffee by yourself (with a snack of course ;))

Typical Chinese-running restaurant. When I entered the restaurant at 6.30pm, all female waiters were playing their hand phones and no motivation to serve. The restaurant provided some Timorese dishes. Overall, the dishes were expensive with that kind of service and environment. Steam rice charged USD1, Coke charged USD2.5, fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce USD9.

The menu features mouthwatering options like BBQ bacon cheeseburgers, chicken, and lamb chops that are sure to impress even the most discerning palates.
A well presented and maintained sports bar tucked away in Dili. The style is very Australian, rather than anything that is Timorese. The food is very nice, but again, not any local dishes. The chicken and lamb chops were both very tasty. The prices are a little high, but the good atmosphere and service are part of what you pay for.

Had a beer here yesterday, came back for lunch today. Absolutely awesome. A great location to escape. The BBQ bacon cheeseburger wasn’t big but rivaled great burger places in Australia in flavor. The staff are fantastic and very attentive and friendly. And the place has TVs that show sports from all countries in 4K. Highly recommend.

For those seeking something more upscale, Ponkys tiki-style bar offers quality cocktails, while Assis Restaurant provides a cozy atmosphere with traditional Portuguese decor and delicious caipirinhas.
Great place with Portuguese products and wines. We were travelling on budget in Dili, it was great to make sandwiches with the fresh bread starting as low as 0,15c and cold cut / cheese, we spent 8usd and got enough for more than 2 meals for 2 persons. They have beers / soft drinks in a chiller that you can drink on the terrace outside - although a bit more expensive than any other grocery. They also have vinho verde in a chiller, ready to drink, bottle can be opened at the café.

Organized, neat and clean supermarket primarily stocking Portuguese food and products. One of the few places in Dili that take care to ensure their fresh produce is in good condition on shelves and refresh their inventory regularly. Our go to for a good variety of bread, hams and cheeses.

Popular supermarket and coffee shop for western in Dili. The supermarket provides mostly Portuguese products, like dairy, beer, and groceries. The coffee shop is usually crowded in the morning. People spend 15-20 mins for coffee and quick bites. They only have espresso, latte, and cappuccino. They have some standing tables and chairs outside as well. Recommended.

The atmosphere here is both relaxed and inviting, making it perfect for those looking to unwind after a day of adventure.

The best place is not only about beautiful walls, but also about the peace it gives to the heart. This hostel is clean, comfortable, and full of warmth. Its location is perfect—close to Timor Plaza and the beach—making every journey easier and more delightful. A truly recommended stay for travelers seeking comfort and serenity.”
Carmel — Google review
"Perfect Location and Great Vibes" I had a wonderful stay at daTerra Hostel in Dili. The location is unbeatable—close to the airport, just a short walk to the beach, and near Timor Plaza where you can catch a bus to Kupang. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it a great base for exploring the area. Highly recommend for travelers passing through or staying a bit longer!
Sukma B — Google review
Didn't see other reviews mention it, but the hostel doesn't provide WiFi. My device had problems connecting using data, and that caused a lot of inconveniences for me without Internet connection, so plan accordingly. The entrance can be easy to miss. It's a huge sliding gate that you have to open yourself when you get there. The location is nice, it's near the airport, its also a 20 mins walk from Timor Plaza if you're using the Dili-Kupang bus. There's also a microlet route nearby is you're planning to ride into the city. Otherwise I love the vibe of the hostel, really makes you feel close to the nature. I got the most basic dorm without AC and it only costs 10.2 USD/night. The non-AC rooms are very basic, at least the beds were clean and mosquito nets are provided. However, I encountered a few cockroaches and some ants so that's something to work on. My favourite part of definitely their outdoor bathroom. It's tastefully decorated with a nature theme. There should be hot water showers but I don't feel like it's working as well, since the hottest I can get is room temperature water. There was only a group of women managing the place throughout my stay. They are friendly, helpful, and speak good English. Loved their simple yet healthy breakfast. I did not receive any kombucha welcome drink as advertised tho. You can rent their bike for 15 USD, I wasn't allow to use it to make a day trip to Mt Ramelau due to the bad roads. I also soon realise after renting the bike that it wasn't in the best condition, ended up going for Baucau instead. Overall this is still the best hostel for budget travellers. Everything is still pretty clean and well organised, will recommend.
Yuhng Y — Google review
Very nice hostel, clean, quiet, friendly staff. They also prepare nice fresh food! Close to the beach with beautiful sunset. Easy to catch a microlet to move around in the city. Recommend!
Fitri R — Google review
This one of two DaTerra Hostels in Dili is a good option if you want to be close to the airport, the place where the buses to Westtimor start, or close to the sea. It is fairly clean and staff is nice. However, I stayed in the bungalow dormitory which is a good budget option for one night but I wouldn't recommend staying there for too long. It's close to nature - mosquitoes and mice, and none of the nets is completely without holes, but fixable. Also, the garden area wasn't very nice in dry season. The DaTerra VilaVerde in the City centre is so mub more beautiful! With a huge and green garden, many hammocks, and an additional roof-struckture so that guests find places to have a bit of peace and quiet. Also, it's much closer to anything worth visiting. If you don't want to rent a scooter remember that microlets only operate during daylight hours.
Susu I — Google review
I liked the quiet residential area near the ocean this hostel is located in. Great place to come for a rest after some hard travel and get cleaned up. Good food and friendly company.

Seriously delicious Chinese cuisine, with tons of options to choose from on their menu. Highly recommend both the pork curry & rice, and sweet sour chicken & rice. Love the fried rice with extra egg, ordered it every week, good quality food. Since I live pretty close, they are able to deliver to my place directly, no charges. They have buffet on weekdays, and I'd say, it is pretty good for the price. If you know the owner pretty well, you can even ask them to help cook. Overall, it is one of my favourite in Dili.

Their motor polao stands out for its rich flavor, while the masala tea leans towards the sweeter side.
Alhamdulillaah, I got Halal food here. It's owner and chef is Bangladeshi and they serve very delicious Bangladeshi, Indian, Malaysian foods. There might be some Pakistani and Middle Eastern food too. We tried mutton polao, chicken shish kebab, butter naan and beef curry. It was good. You can find parking just after crossing the restaurant, or on the other side of the street.

Doesn’t look like much from the outside but the food was good, not great. The curries could have had a bit more consistency to be considered great in my opinion. Nonetheless, this was one of the best restaurants I visited in Dili. The mango lassi and soursop juice were excellent.
Jay — Google review
I tried some vegetarian foods and it was among the best South Asian foods that you'll get in Dili. They also have a slew of tandoori food and fresh fruit juices which are a must try. Queen Tundriee is also among a few restaurants in Dili with all kinds of breads - tawa roti, different types of tandoori roti/ Paratha and naan.
Pankaj A — Google review
They have various kinds of Middle East food, such as naan bread, tandoori chicken, briyani rice, masala tea, etc. The price for main meals is around $5-8, quite expensive for local people in general. However, the taste is authentic. It's quite tricky to find a good parking spot. You should park your car at the park nearby.
Reananda P — Google review
The foods are normal, Nan breads taste all the same even order different flavours. We order cheese and garlic flavour, no distinctive different. The setup in term of furnishing is general, the cleanliness was acceptable. Table service was offered. No parking space, only roadside parking available. Curry for me the most important ingredient to Indian food, the curry is diluted and taste mild.
Francolanis T — Google review
I think queen tundriee is a pakistani restaurante, they main menu nearly to hadramaut menu rather than india. you can order all vegetarian menu for a cheap price, the motor polao has a good taste. their masala tea is too sweet for me. please note that menu you ordered is written correctly in the paper, it's quite difficult to communicate with the waitress. the cleanliness is quite good compare to the other restaurante. you have to park your car in parking area beside the city park about 25 meters forward. please no park on the roadside, you'll make a traffic jam, don't be an ignorant

If you're on the hunt for an unforgettable dining experience, look no further than Hari's Restaurant. Nestled conveniently across from Timor Plaza, this gem offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of commercial life. The moment you step inside, you'll be greeted by a clean and comfortable atmosphere that sets the stage for an incredible meal. Owner and chef Hari takes immense pride in his craft, whipping up authentic Indian dishes that are bursting with flavor thanks to his expert use of spices and fresh herbs.
I went mid-day based on a recommendation. It was easy to find. The food was amazing and fresh. The establishment is clean and comfortable, and the staff is welcoming. Hari is the owner and chef but also has helpers. He takes great pride in the food he prepares, and this is evident in the delicious meal he served up! The aloo gobi hit the spot, along with the naan. I will definitely be going back! Edited to add: this is my weekly go-to place, the dosas on Sundays are amazing, the aloo paratha, the butter chicken and dhal makhani are the best I've had, the samosas, the naan...after a long day, I can count on a delivery! It takes time because the food is prepared fresh, worth the wait! This place is truly a gem.

Burger King is a well-known fast-food chain that offers grilled burgers, fries, shakes, and breakfast options. It's a good place to grab a burger meal for around $8 USD or less. The menu includes not only hamburgers but also chicken and rice, chicken nuggets, and ice cream sundaes. The restaurant is known for its consistent food quality, cleanliness, and great service.
Okay so I normally wouldn't rate a Burger King with 5 stars. However, this Burger King is particularly special. What makes them stick out compared to other places in Timor is the excellent service when you get here. Very professional. I know the general manager who focuses on training his staff really well. In one case a janitor who had a great work ethic, was recognized and given English language training so that he can now operate behind the cash register and manage staff. The place is clean, the food is good, there are high chairs, and the quintessential Burger King crowns for your little one. They also accept a credit card.

A good place to get a burger. For around $8 USD (maybe a little more) you can get a burger, fries and a drink (Whooper is recommended). Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a meal here than in any other conventional restaurant in Dili. The quality of the food is always consistent and you don't only have hamburgers on the menu, you can also get chicken and rice, chicken nuggets or even an ice cream (the famous Sundae is recommended). The place is clean and fresh and the service is great. The cashiers always serve the customer with a friendly "good morning", "good afternoon" or "good evening" depending on the time of day and always say goodbye to the customer with a "thank you". It should be noted that the restaurant no longer offers plastic bags to customers, so if necessary, the customer can take their own bag with them or buy a bag at the Burger King counter for no more than 0.75 cents. In relation to the pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19), the restaurant has installed a soap and water station and requires its customers to wash their hands before entering the establishment. Furthermore, the use of mask is compulsory if you want to access the restaurant, without forgetting that during this pandemic the restaurant is open only for take-away orders and for delivery services.

Nestled away from the bustling streets of Dili, Restaurante Bidau is a hidden gem that offers an authentic taste of Taiwanese and Thai cuisine. This charming eatery features a clean, air-conditioned environment where diners can enjoy delicious meals at reasonable prices, with most main dishes around $6. The friendly owner and attentive service create a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
I had the pleasure of dining at a Taiwanese and Thai restaurant recently, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. As for the food, each dish that the owner cooked was incredibly delicious, and I felt like I had found the epitome of human taste here. The mix of Taiwanese and Thai flavors was perfect, and I appreciated the authenticity in each dish. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a cozy and delicious meal that truly hits the spot.

I've never had any diarrhea from here. I visited here for the first time in 2018. The late owner was very hospitable and welcoming. The food tasted great and the aircon always worked well. Until now, the late owner's wife became the manager, they still take criticism and feedback well. Occasionally, I would have the honour to be invited to staple their new dishes. Price is considered as affordable for Timor. The location is a bit off the centre, though.

Friendly and prompt staff. Delicious homey food and quick service. Drinks and dessert options are also good. We like the beef noodle soup and tamarind ice blended drink!
Rachel H — Google review
Good place to dine in with a large group. It is cool inside and offered a good variety of dishes at a decent price. Highlights were the avocado shake, green curry chicken and the tom yum noodle soup.
Irene T — Google review
Nice home cook style . Simple dishes and prices are very reasonable. The tomyam is good and not too spicy. Although personally I would have preferred stronger taste but in Timor not all can take if too spicy. The surrounding ambience is homely . The entrance is quite small and you will have to drive slowly to avoid missing the entrance..

A great find in Dili. Authentic Taiwanese and Thai dishes, simple but done well. The place is tucked away from the street and only a small sign gives its presence away. Once you find it and venture in it's clean and air-conditioned. Prices are reasonable with most main meals priced at US$6. The owner is very friendly and service very quick. The chef is Thai but lived in Taiwan for decades, so a real mixture of cuisines. Was here 4 years ago when last in Dili, and happy to be back again!

What a find! A clean, well air-conditioned restaurant serving authentic Taiwanese/Chinese and Thai food with a smile. The owner is very cheerful and overall it was a very satisfying experience. I ordered the dumpling soup and spicy Thai salad which were both excellent.

New Lilis Restaurant stands out as a beloved dining spot in Dili, offering an authentic warung experience with its vibrant atmosphere characterized by plastic tablecloths and whirring fans. This eatery caters to diverse palates, featuring an extensive menu that includes beef, chicken, vegetables, and traditional Indonesian dishes. Guests can enjoy various rice options—white, yellow, and red—with generous portions at reasonable prices.
An Indonesian restaurant located right across Burger King. They serve many choices of Indonesian food, plenty of vegetables, fish, and meat. They even provide several rice: white rice, yellow rice, and red rice with beans. The place is spacious and delicious. Price is reasonable depending on the choice.

The BEST place to eat in Dili. Soo many food options, good for vegetarian too! Love their sweet tempe with rice and veggies. Ice tea for only 50cents! Service is excellent; waitresses speak and understand a variety of languages- Indonesian, Tetum, English, Portuguese etc!

Was a delicious and very affordable lunch at $5 USD, for stir-fried noodles with vegetables and egg, and it also came with a cold water and an ice tea. Great value. Staff we friendly and helpful

One of the best Indonesian restaurants in town. They offer wide variety of food, including gudeg, yellow rice, fried rice, etc. The price is relatively reasonable too, around $3,5-6 for one person. However, the restaurant ambiance is average. It's quite tricky to find proper parking spot as well.

Diza, now known as Caravela, is a stunning beachfront restaurant in Dili that offers an unforgettable dining experience. With the soothing sound of waves and breathtaking sunsets as your backdrop, it's the perfect spot to unwind. Guests rave about their delicious avocado-coffee smoothie and generous portions of dishes like pork ribs and traditional seafood. The menu features a delightful mix of Indian and European cuisine, ensuring there's something for everyone.
This place gets 5 stars for the awesome avocado-coffee smoothie alone. It's one of the most upmarket places in Dili, but some of the servings are actually very generous, making it good value, and the food is great. We had pork ribs and traditional seafood, both were excellent. --- Nov 2016: Since making this review, Diza has changed management and I understand the menu has changed.

As you savor authentic dishes crafted by a dedicated owner-chef, you'll be treated to stunning sunset views that enhance your meal.
Good Turkish food in this nicely decorated restaurant overlooking the ocean. The service was friendly and responsive. A bit pricey at $10-12 or so per dish, but there’s not much competition for them in Dili.

Food was not that good the kebobs was old and not fresh. Chicken kabob was juat minced dry chicken not even shaped into kabob...very limited menu beef or chicken kabob or nothing... The girl at the bar stole $20 from me as i was paying. she used the oldest trick in the book and snatched a bill off counter once i looked away... Problem was i saw her do it.... She was local girl and should be terminated from her job.... She just smiled and said i had forgot and to check my wallet again... Mybill was $25 i gave her 2 twenty bills. She took them and asked if i had a $5 instead of giving me change... and as soon as i went into my front pocket for a $5 bill she snatced a twenty bill... I never got my wallet out a second time... Imposable for me to be of misteken memory like she said,. And like i said i saw her do it... So rather than raise a big stink I let her have it... cuz karma and this review will get her sooner or later...

$10 for a kebab that is basically mildly warm dried out meat with some half rotten lettuce fried on a hotplate is a bit much, even for Dili. The restaurant takes on a certain ambience by night, but it looks rundown and kind of shabby by day. The bread is excellent.

Gloria Jean's Coffees is a popular spot in Dili, Timor Leste, offering delicious coffee and cakes. While the space can be limited when it's crowded, the coffee is described as superb. Despite its higher prices compared to local standards, it's considered a nice place for light discussions over coffee or remote work. The clean and inviting atmosphere with friendly staff makes it a great alternative to other cafes in the area.
Have a good coffee, place and view.
Arinda D — Google review
Nice coffee shops, they have a second floor by the way.
The S — Google review
A nice place designed for you to sit with friends (or by yourself) whilst enjoying some coffee (or anything else that they have on their menu). First and foremost, let me say that what I like the most about this place is the parking lot: even though it is not exclusive to Gloria Jean’s Coffees, there’s still plenty of place to park your car/bike away from the street. Although small in size, this coffeehouse serves all the regular beverages and food associated with Gloria Jean’s Coffees. The staff are usually very nice. I usually have the cafffe latte and it is quite good. Also tried the orange juice and it falls in the same category. When it comes to food, I’ve only tried the muffins and those are really enjoyable. As for pricing, it can be a little bit more expensive then other coffee houses in Dili. As with any other Gloria Jean’s Coffees house, you do have the option of having your coffee to go. This place do offer seating outdoors and indoors (there is downstairs and upstairs seating available). I don’t usually sit here because the music is too loud for my taste and I do prefer a place more calm and serene, but if you don’t mind screaming at each other, then this is the place for you.
Nai-Tú — Google review

Food L Do is a trendy spot located near the main car park at the back of Timor Plaza. It's known for its beer towers, such as the Tiger tower that comes with free nachos. The place offers a variety of sandwiches like the chicken avocado mozzarella and chicken Tandoori, served with yogurt on the side. The portion size of their shoestring fries could be more generous though. Despite being child-friendly, it's not often crowded with kids around.
Perhaps my favorite place to get a sandwich in town. I recommend the chicken avocado mozzarella sandwich or the chicken Tandoori sandwich with yogurt on the side. I really like their shoestring fries but I wish that the portion size was a little bit more because it's frankly just a bit skimpy. The atmosphere is trendy never too crowded. They do have high chairs for young children though I've never seen kids there. When you order tea they give you a whole pot not just a cup. The accepted credit card but might charge you a fee.

This restaurant can be expensive. Recommended: pizza, double bacon burger, and coffee (espresso or cappuccino). Indoor (non smoking) and outdoor (smoking) dining is available, and they do have a bar. Ambiance indoor is quite calm and I do enjoy the sofas, although I have experienced loud music from the restaurant and noisy costumers. Service is good, but needs improvement (e.g. the waiter should bring a serrated knife if you order a steak). Do enjoy their Tuesday promo: buy 1 pizza, get 1 free pizza.

Stayed here on recommendation from another guest who has stayed on a number of occasions and really happy we did.. Mr Anthony and his staff provided a really nice and relaxed environment to stay and was happy to accommodate our various travels to other parts of Timor. Thank you!
Luke G — Google review
Hotel Esplanada is one of the most welcoming and special places I've stayed in, and my visit to Timor Leste was beyond expectations. I've been fortunate enough to visit over 80 countries and this trip is the most memorable I've had, starting with the unparalleled hospitality I received from Hotel Esplanada's owner and team. I flew into the airport on a rough, delayed red eye flight and the transportation they arranged for was waiting for me despite the long arrivals process and 4 hour delay, and from there, I felt so well taken care of. I was concerned before visiting that there is little information on the internet about Timor Leste since it's visited by so few people. All my concerns evaporated by the warmth and consideration of the community, and the immaculate island vibes. Dili, and Timor Leste in general, feels the complete opposite of other "overtouristed" places in the world - completely authentic and undiscovered with warm, welcoming people who are forward thinking despite a recent, brutal history. The hotel itself was founded by a wonderful Australian gentleman, Ash, who opened the hotel over twenty years ago and who is still very hands on with the hotel and is deeply invested and giving to the community and culture, and personally ensures that all guests are warmly welcome. There is a wonderful rooftop covered deck overlooking the sea with live music and a great varied menu with ice cold beers on tap, and also where the free breakfast is served. My room had a boutique feel with powerful AC, a comfortable bed, many outlets, and a great bathroom. There were yoga classes next to the pool in the morning which I wished I could have joined for - looked very peaceful. They helped organize all transport and logistics to an ambitious overnight stay at gorgeous Atauro island in partnership with Compass Diving - all flawlessly organized over WhatsApp. Atauro is so worthwhile to visit - only stayed one night but went on 3 snorkeling expeditions with the most epic pristine underwater coral wonderland imaginable and found it deeply relaxing. All in all an outstanding value for money and even though a short visit, left with the best memories.
Jae H — Google review
This is one of the better hotels here. Remember it’s Timor-Leste not Bali, but the wifi is available everywhere, clean pool, bar with a breeze and view and good food - and easy access to cheap transport makes this my choice here. Great service also. If the toilet gets clogged (and it does everywhere - even at Hotel Timor) they fix it quickly. It’s relaxed and safe. Good food places down the road also. Easy to get to the airport and they organise metered blue taxis if you need them.
Janet S — Google review
A Relaxed, Friendly Place to Stay I’ve stayed here many times over the years and continue to appreciate its great location and genuinely friendly staff. The atmosphere is relaxed, with leafy gardens, a small pool, and a cosy on-site bar and restaurant area that makes it easy to catch up with people. Rooms are comfortable, with drinking water provided, and breakfast is included. A lovely bonus is the free yoga sessions offered every morning, which are a wonderful way to ease into the day, clear your mind, and stretch out before work or exploring Dili. The food and breakfast have improved, and overall, it remains a comfortable and convenient place to stay in Dili if you’re looking for a casual spot with a local feel.❤️

Naris No.1 Korean Restaurant, nestled in the serene area of Pantai Kelapa, is a beloved dining spot that I eagerly anticipate returning to after its seasonal closure. Definitely value for money, with generous servings and authentic flavors that make every bite worth it. I was also impressed by the wide variety of options on the menu – from classic BBQ to hearty stews and side dishes, there’s something for everyone. The banchan (side dishes) were fresh and plentiful, constantly refilled, which made the meal even more enjoyable. Nestled near the New Zealand Embassy, it features a spa where you can indulge in a rejuvenating Thai massage to relieve those pesky knots and stress. The ambiance is charmingly kitschy, adding to the overall experience of enjoying mouthwatering dishes. After your meal, consider treating yourself to a hair crème bath or head massage at nearby Yomi Salon for an extra touch of relaxation.
Yummy Thai food! Love the kitschy decor.

Food is ok, although the one I ordered had too much tomato sauce. Service was ok, although some items on the menu weren't available and they only let us know after we had ordered. Food was ready in a short time. Outdoor and indoor seatings, although the dining room was not properly cool even with 2 AC units on 16⁰ C. Would go back to eat here.
Nai-Tú — Google review
The foods taste good, and I mean it. Variety in menu, both foods and beverages. The reason of 3 stars rating mainly due to lack of Thai flavours. I missed the sour ness and spicy taste of thai foods. The ambient is great, it feels like dining in a garden. Owner also very considerate by offering repellent just in case you need it. If you prefer more privacy, you can opt for indoor seating. Reasonable price for me, range from $5 to $11.

Clearly a Chinese restaurant, not Thai, and not a very good one at that. And very expensive. Totally inattentive staff. Nice green courtyard setting but no other customers on a Friday night so felt very dead. Avoid.

Tito's Restaurant is a delightful gem nestled along the beach in Dili, offering an inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements its Portuguese-inspired cuisine. The menu features standout dishes like their incredibly tender octopus served with baked potatoes, making it a must-try for seafood lovers.

A bit overpriced for what offers. Great quality food. Great location. Alcoholic drinks are expensive except beer. The owner is really nice and comes to the table and explains the daily menu and options. Very kind person. Good memories.

Great Portuguese food in Timor. Portions are generous and service is good. The owner of the restaurant is generally around to ensure quality and greet customers. Prices will be around $30 or so person if drinking.

Very nice Portuguese restaurant by the beach. Open space so you can feel the sea breeze. Very good food, but expensive. It goes on the list of most expensive restaurants in Dili. Took them quite some time to get the food ready, even though we were the only two customers. Unfortunately they only had Bintang beer (not sure if this is common or they just happened to be out of beer on that day).

Great Chinese restaurant near the beach. Food is a little pricey but the portions are huge to make up for it.

Had a pleasant experience at Fins Resto and Bar. The food was tasty and well-prepared, and the service was friendly and efficient. The ambiance was nice and comfortable, with some air-conditioned corners that made it a great place to relax. However, the prices were on the expensive side compared to similar places in the area. Overall, a good spot if you’re looking for quality food and a cozy environment — just be prepared for a higher bill.

Get to know this place via a friend. A Malaysian chinese chef handle the kitchen. I could have eaten out now whenever I craving for Malaysia Chinese foods. Both indoor and outdoor seating available for this seaside restaurant. Dishes of the day may vary depending on the ingredients they acquired. Price is very reasonable and the location is very strategic. Not so far from Cristo Rei and Dili central. A big vacant space next to the restaurant, so no need to worry for parking space.

This place is like a refuge for me. Here I feel that time passes from wandering and I can take advantage of every minute to enjoy the view. No matter what time you go, you will always have an impeccable and different view. The food is tasty and the attendants speak English and also Portuguese. It also has several different options for those who like to think to choose. The octopus salad with bread, the house bread, is definitely a good option. If you go to the Legendario don’t forget to ask for a coconut water and enjoy the view! 🩵

Popped in for late afternoon drinks. Uncomfortable rattan chairs with no cushioning. Expensive vs other bars and hotel bars. Wifi didn’t work. Not located at the waterfront either, it’s set back which means the view isn’t so good. Left after one drink.

A very calm and almost noise free ambiance (if you choose to sit by the grass), an ideal place to enjoy the sunset. Pricey restaurant, but the quality of the food does not justify the prices. No walls so no AC. Toilet is available, but there is never any soap, although it's clean and well lit. Car parking on the street.
Pikkoro J — Google review
It's not one of the busiest restaurants in town, so it's normal that there's always a table available here. Quiet atmosphere, sea view and beautiful sunsets. Restaurant
The Great Wall Restaurant offers satisfactory cuisine, although not exceptional overall. However, one notable exception is their delectable hot & sour soup. While the sweet & sour chicken is enjoyable, it falls short of being outstanding due to small chicken portions and relatively high prices. The establishment boasts an appealing decor that is well-appreciated by patrons. One suggestion for improvement would be to offer a wider variety of wines by the glass.
The food is good, these past few years we always eat here whenever theres a birthday party. Service is good. Love the prawn.

The menu is mostly Chinese-style dishes. The lobster was fresh but only prawn size for $33. The restaurant is usually busy, so it’s better to make a reservation. They also have a VIP room with a minimum order.

Decent food, not spectacular, with one exception: the hot & sour soup was delicious! Also enjoyed the sweet & sour chicken — but it was just average, chicken bits were small for the high price. The decor is quite nice, which I appreciated. I wish they offered a larger selection of wine by the glass. Also, prefer my red wine not refrigerated; still, it tasted fine.

The decor is nice but the owner's attitude ruined the whole experience, not a single smile on her face. The whole restaurant was empty but she kept saying we're fully booked and she's doing me a favor to let me eat there. When I asked for the menu, she swaggered her finger like I'm bothering her. When I asked for recommendations, she just stood there. $31 for lamp chop, mojito and Timor coffee. The food is not exceptional, nothing to write home about. I had better food in America for cheaper! Also, she was quite rude to her staff, too. Oh yeah, cats are everywhere. I bet I ate some cat hair.

Had a delicious grilled fish ($20) and a lovely, fluffy chocolate dessert! The chef-owner kindly kept checking on us and all of the wait staff was very attentive. The atmosphere feels very private as you're tucked in amongst lots of plants but there are also a few outdoor couches on the beachfront. The cats were not bothersome at all-- I love that the kitchen offers the local stray cats the scraps, what a good way to deal with food waste!

Burger King is a popular fast-food destination in Dili, known for its welcoming atmosphere and friendly English-speaking staff. While the prices may reflect European standards, making it somewhat pricey for Timorese residents, many find comfort in the familiar flavors that evoke an American vibe.
Nice and clean place. They speak english and are very kind. Prices are just the same of Europe, so really too expensive for Timor people.

The loud music is a mood killer. Instead of a nice and calm restaurant ambiance, one feels like is inside a nightclub. The young men standing outside the restaurant look like troublemakers and the kind that likes to bother girls. Burgers are great, especially the Whopper. My review is for hotel & restaurant both. I'm pleased to report an overall very good experience at Katua's! HOTEL: I opted for a simple room at $45/night and was delighted to learn that this included free laundry. In fact, there's a little basket in each room where you put your clothes and later it returns clean and folded. The room was clean and comfortable with good AC, water pressure, TV and new fridge. Water wasn't hot but I didn't mind. RESTAURANT: Free breakfast was fresh and tasty! Coffee was very good. Also had a late lunch of a steak sandwich and some of the soup du jour. They actually made the soup fresh as I could see in the kitchen. Very happy with the food, beverage and service. Will come visit again for sure.

The staff was amazing, super helpful and friendly. The room was poor to say the least, of course when you are in East Timor you have to keep your expectations extremely low - poor facilities, abysmal food and services. Prato Steakhouse stands out as a premier destination for steak enthusiasts in Dili, Timor-Leste. This charming eatery offers an inviting atmosphere that makes it perfect for a laid-back dining experience. Looking for a place to eat steak when visiting Dili, I found this place. The location is in the Pateo complex, a kind of shopping complex in Dili. the place is quite good, the service can still be improved. The steak is delicious and quite a big portion. Portuguese steak style. the price range for a steak is $26. There are also quite a lot of menu choices. Yesterday I tried Angus rib eye, medium. very delicious.

One of the go-to spots for steak and Western food in Dili. The location is great, with a spacious parking area, which is a big plus. You’ll notice quite a lot of expatriates dining here, and the restaurant accepts Visa and MasterCard for payment. In my opinion, it’s one of the most comfortable dining spots in Dili. They offer a good variety of steaks, along with salads, burgers, and several interesting side dishes. The highlight? Definitely the Picanha – highly recommended!

Prato Steakhouse is easily one of the best places for steak in Dili! The quality of the meat is excellent, cooked to perfection with a great selection of sides. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal. The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure you have everything you need. The pâté and fresh bread are a great way to start, and they have a good selection of wines to pair with your meal. Highly recommend the ribeye. A must-visit for steak lovers in Timor-Leste!

What a wonderful surprise. A classy Portuguese style restaurant, somewhat hidden in the Pateo supermarket area. Next to the gym. Well decorated, delicious food, and very good portion sizes. Easily serves the largest steaks in town, and knows how to cook them deliciously too. The menu is predominantly in Portuguese, but a few items have English subtitles. They do take a credit card, but they charge a fee. I think this is a Fine Place to bring a date.

Delicious steak and good service what more can you want! Interior is a bit like a cafeteria but that’s possibly because we were there at 7.30 and it wasn’t busy yet so it was a bit cavernous. Would definitely go back though. Warning - don’t order more than 2 steaks for three people as portions are big. You can easily share one between two.
Ben W — Google review
So, I was craving for a surf and turf and I thought this place would be the best bet. Wrong. I arrived and it was empty, not a good sign. No surf and turf but I ordered the garlic prawns starter and the rib eye main to come at the same time. It didn't, they also put on the table some bread, butter and pate (I hadn't ordered this, but thought it was complimentary so tried it - not good.) The steak was ok, a little greasy, the side salad was from the 70's. When the bill came I was charged for the bread butter and pate! 54$ total that's about half a monthly minimum wage here. Really not worth the money, didn't appreciate the cheeky add ons and zero atmosphere. Safe to say I won't be rushing back. Shame.

Tasty Thai food. Owners are very friendly. Restaurant used to be more popular but clientele has declined due to various Chinese restaurants in Dili offering Thai options, according to owner.

A good place to refresh your appetite with some tasty Thai dishes. We were the only customers that evening, the restaurant is quite empty due to Covid. They have various meals like fried rice, phad thai, and tom yam soup. The price is around $5-15 per portion. Great place for dining with friends as the restaurant is quite big.

Food took more than 20 minutes to arrive. Thai ice tea was far too sweet, and had an odd aftertaste. Tom Yung Kung Soup was on point. 👍 Customer service needs work. Little doggy there is far too attached to new customers - licking my leg etc. Needed help from waiter with this. Would come back for a takeaway.

Authentic Thai food cooked by probably the only real commercial Thai chef left in Dili. The new air contioned green room provides an alternative cooler space to eat for those who do not want the tradioional al fresco restaurant dining space. Food, massage and salon are all still very reputable. They have reinvested and still provide great food. Apparently take away can be delivered ($2 near PK, further field.. $3 plus depends on distance). Good luck (Chok dee!) Thai Herb.

Lovely service. Dishes came out quickly. Som Tum salad was a good size, a little fishy for my taste but delicious and fresh nonetheless. Grilled prawns were fantastic. Vegetarian dishes came with heaps of tofu. Easy to miss though so keep your eyes peeled! Definitely worth the several u turns.

Pad Thai was good and quickly prepared. Massage was overpriced when requested: $25 instead of $20 for 1 hr full body massage as per their massage menu, or they offered to do a shorter version whereas the menu clearly states it is $20 for 1 HR full body massage. A bit disappointed and decided to do it elsewhere.

Great place for good Thai food, a massage and even a haircut. Wonderful lunches for about $10. Nice bar in the evenings. Men's haircuts are $8. Not a bad place for a casual date, but bring some mosquito repellent.

Incredible. If you were walking along the road you would probably walk by, but that would be a mistake! It is authentic Thai, the herbs, the taste, everything is just right. Good prices and very chilled. The only small criticism is, and is the same for everywhere in East Timor and Asia, overuse of straws/plastic......Number 1 in Dili for me so far.

We actually came here to eat Japanese food but the owner was Indian so we changed our menu and ate curry! We ordered Chicken tikka masala, Chicken butter masala and Palak panir. All of them were sooooo goood!! Also the owner is really nice ☺️ The location is also great since the place is right next to the shore!

Yesterday, I ordered grilled chicken and salmon pasta. The food was well cooked, not too spicy, with just the right balance. The service was quick and excellent. I’ll order other items from the menu today.

I ordered the butter chicken masala and my wife got the lemon garlic fish filet. Both delicious. Atmosphere was great as we sat overlooking the ocean as the sunset. Will return.

We went here for sushi but saw they had Indian food so ordered the Butter Chicken and Paratha. This was easily the best meal we had in Timor-Leste. The owner is a great guy to talk to also

Akshay served us some great panner palak , amazing dal , and laccha paratha. The quantity of one dish of all is good for two. Atmosphere is great. If you want to enjoy then have patience after ordering for 15 min while enjoying the ambience

Visitors praise the delicious beef soup, nasi lemak, and satay for their rich flavors. The hosts are known for their warm hospitality and flawless English.
I came across this local satay place on the water front today I had the most delicious beef soup for lunch, I enjoyed it so much my wife and I went back for dinner and tried the nasi lemak and the satay, both were to die for probably the most flavor filled food we have had on our Temor adventure. The host Andy and his wife and family spoke flawless English and made us feel so welcome.
