Park
Located in Tennoji Park, Tennoji Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in Japan, established in 1915. Spanning 11 hectares, it houses over a thousand animals from more than 200 species. The zoo aims to provide natural habitats for its inhabitants and features diverse environments such as the African Savanna for lions and other animals. It's a must-visit attraction when exploring Osaka with kids.
I went to the Zoo of Tennoji, Osaka, Japan. I think it's really worth to pay ¥500 as entrance fee. We can see lots of birds species and other animals either. If you want to the place that won't cost a lot for sight seeing, I would like to recommend it. My favorite was red pandas, penguins and seals. They were so cute and playing all the time. 🥰 A nice place for the animal lovers 🥰🥰 HOPE you enjoy these photos and can make decision.
Thet S — Google review
We visited in the summer (July) and it was extremely hot. There aren’t many shaded areas or air-conditioned spots throughout the zoo so be prepared for the heat. 😅☀️However if you’re looking for a place to cool down. I recommend visiting the Reptile House. It has air conditioning and is a nice break from the sun. Overall it’s a fun place to explore but just keep in mind that the weather can be tough during summer.
Navara K — Google review
Stopped by as part of the Osaka Amazing Pass as it was on my route and it had been a while since I had last been to a zoo. Far from being the best or biggest zoo out there but a fair range of animals to be seen, in comfortable enough living conditions I think. More of a spot for families with young children.
Byu S — Google review
We went to the Zoo using our Osaka Amazing Pass. The entrance fee was very reasonable even without the pass. If I remember correctly it was 300 yen for an adult. Enjoyed our time looking at a lot of animals.
Lynn A — Google review
This is a medium size zoo. We went on Sunday, but not too crowded. There is no queue at the ticket area. Most of the area doesn’t have roof or cover so it is too hot to walk in outdoor area almost of the time. However, still have some zone in the building so we can take a rest there. They provide a lot of wedding machine around the zoo. They also have a restaurant, but we didn’t use it. Animals look healthy, but not much.
Charlie V — Google review
Much improved in the last few years. Has had some major renovations, with more to come. My kids had a great time! Also it’s quite cheap compared to many zoos around the world, 500 yen for an adult, 200 yuan for a child over 6. Under that age is free.
Josh A — Google review
It was affordable, so we got to enter without spending too much, and without a line! We got to see a lot of animals, but I couldnt shake the sad feeling abt them being so sad, especially the monkeys. The tiger and wolves were also on the slimmer side. It was fun overall, but hopefully I can come back and see healthier and happier animals
Zowela — Google review
If you are in osaka and want to visit a zoo with the family it's very wholesome to go here and check the animals out with friends or family or loved ones. There were on a construction sites where you can't exactly pass through to make your pathing more easier but it's all in all fun walk through the zoo.

Observation Decks & Towers
Tsūtenkaku is a prominent landmark in Osaka's lively Shinsekai district, known for its vibrant neon lights and an observation deck that offers stunning views of the local area. The observation deck, which can be accessed for a fee, provides panoramic vistas including a bird's-eye view of nearby Tennoji Zoo. Additionally, visitors can find a statue of Billiken, a famous charm doll, on the deck.
This 103m tall tower is a good way to see the view of shinsekai from an elevated area. Inside the tower there are eateriesd as well as shops, and a small display museum. There is also a display of authentic and old style photos and old souvenirs.
Aviator C — Google review
We had a day trip in Osaka and spent most of our time shopping so we wanted to see something else. This tower is very cute. It's fairly low tech and a little whimsical with the odd mascot and video they play in the elevator. Definitely recommend the outer terrace view to not get glare in your photos. There is also a slide that people were doing!
Liza L — Google review
I came here more than 7 years ago when there were not as crowded as now. You need to pay extra 300 yen to go to the top of the tower to get a better view and get a feel of the breeze. Queue to reserve a time slot to enter though. Without the Amazing Pass, I don't think I will come here again. You can have a meal after the visit at the surrounding areas.
Chan A — Google review
I popped the area for a visit after dinner one evening. I did not go up the tower but took pictures of it from the street. It didn't seem as tall as I imagined but it was certainly one of the more popular landmarks here. The tower had good lighting and can be seen from all points arounf the block.
Gevs — Google review
Super fun retro style tower with great views of the city. Recommend getting the extra pass for the outdoor observation deck, you get great photos! Be prepared to queue for a while to get up to the deck though.
Minerva L — Google review
One of my favourite things in Osaka! The view is stunning and super cool! We mostly enjoyed the balcony with glass floor :)) It’s not crowded at all and it’s very affordable as well!
Vanessa D — Google review
We visited both the tower and enjoyed the views from inside and outside they were truly beautiful. There’s also a small museum inside the tower, which was a nice surprise. We decided to try the slide down, which was a lot of fun! However, I didn’t put the protective helmet on properly, and unfortunately, it bumped against my head during the slide. I ended up with a mild concussion and had a headache for the rest of the week. So, definitely make sure to wear the helmet correctly safety first!
Laloena A — Google review
We had the amazing pass so it was included in that otherwise I don't think I'd pay to do this on its own. We did get to see the sunset which was great. But there are more impressive towers in Japan.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Abeno Harukas, the tallest building in Osaka, is a marvel of modern architecture designed by Cesar Pelli. Opened in 2014, this 300-meter, 60-story tower offers an array of attractions. The free observatory on the 16th floor provides stunning views of the Kansai region through its expansive windows. For a more immersive experience, visitors can head to the top-level Harukas 300 observation deck for a fee.
Trivia: I’ve read it’s the tallest building in Japan from 2014 until 2023. A definite must-see! We spent a good amount of time here! Marvelled by the 360 view of the city 300m above ground, walked around, chilled and drank coffee, did some photo-ops for the whole fam. This skyscraper’s observation deck is so extensive. There were a lot of people but it never felt crowded. Edge The Harukas — their sky walk activity available by schedule or if weather is permitting. I just loved that after all the walking that we did in the morning, this was our last stop. We got to enjoy the Osaka breeze at night and had some down time before going back to our hostel.
Elyssa Y — Google review
The view was breathtaking , and it wasn’t too busy the day we went. Stayed past sunset and it’s stunning! Highly recommend this one over the Umeda Sky Garden if you have to choose one.
Angel K — Google review
I only had two days in Osaka but am glad I had Abeno Harikus on my list of places to visit. The view was superb. A little pricey but at least I didn't have to wait in a queue to get in. The experience was definitely worth the 2000 yen. Next time I'll go at night.
Jeff M — Google review
Visited the observatory on a Monday afternoon, no wait to buy tickets and a quick elevator ride to the 60th floor and you are there. Provided a great view of Osaka and just how big the city is. Worth staying till sunset and into twilight to get some nice photos but does start to get busy then. Can have a beer and sit overlooking the city in the open courtyard
Tom E — Google review
Honestly… it wasn’t worth the hype. The building is tall, yes — “tallest in Japan” sounds cool on paper — but once you’re actually up there, the view is kind of generic cityscape, nothing memorable. Osaka’s skyline just doesn’t have dramatic landmarks like Tokyo Tower, Skytree, Rainbow Bridge, or even Kobe Port Tower. Everything just looks gray and flat. The ticket price also feels way too high for what you get. You’re basically paying a premium just to see rooftops. The “Sky Garden” is more like a cafeteria patio than anything magical. A couple of photo spots, some glass panels, and then… you’re done in 10 minutes. If you’ve been to Umeda Sky Building already, or if you’ve been to other major city observatories, Abeno Harukas feels extremely skippable. I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way. Two stars.
Jack S — Google review
Tallest observatory tower in Osaka. Came here at 8pm on a weekday, and there was no lineup but I missed the beautiful sunset scene. If you want to take advantage of both the twilight and night view, then time your visit. There is a bit of light effect while taking the elevator up to the 60F and that was interesting.
Stanley F — Google review
The top deck viewing platform consists of several floors with chances to shop at a souvenir shop and eat in the middle of the observatory. It's beautiful at sunset! You also have the chance to get a photo done for free in a black&white newspaper style or printed in color against a fee.
Peri W — Google review
The Harukas garden on the 16th floor was free to enter and had a nice view with some benches to sit on and admire the view. It was not too busy in the morning. A great place to relax.

Tennoji Park is a popular urban oasis in Osaka, offering a variety of attractions for families and visitors. The park features lawns, flowerbeds, fountains, and cafes. It is home to the Tennoji Zoo, the Osaka City Museum of Art, a Japanese Garden, and the Chausu-yama mound with historical significance.
This morning, Tennoji Park offered a welcome escape from the city's early buzz. What struck me most was the tranquility. Unlike the busier times of day, the park was refreshingly peaceful, making it an ideal setting for a mindful jog. The soft morning light filtering through the trees created a calming ambiance, a perfect way to start the day. As I jogged along the winding paths, I noticed subtle yet beautiful signs of #aprilblooms. While not as concentrated as a dedicated flower garden, pockets of color peeked out – early azaleas unfurling their vibrant petals, delicate wildflowers dotting the edges of the lawns, and even the last of the cherry blossoms adding a touch of fleeting beauty to the scenery. These hints of spring's awakening provided a lovely backdrop to my morning exercise. The park's layout is also fantastic for a jog. The well-maintained paths offer a variety of routes, from gentle loops to slightly longer stretches. There's enough variation to keep things interesting without being too challenging. The occasional bench offers a spot to pause and appreciate the quiet beauty, perhaps to catch your breath and admire a particularly lovely bloom. Beyond the jogging and the subtle #aprilblooms, Tennoji Park simply feels like a breath of fresh air in the urban landscape. The open spaces, the mature trees, and the overall sense of calm make it a valuable green lung in the city. If you're looking for a serene spot for your morning routine, whether it's a jog or a peaceful walk, and you want to catch some of the early whispers of spring with #aprilblooms, Tennoji Park in the morning is a wonderful choice. It's a reminder that even in a bustling city, moments of quiet beauty can be found.
Dexter C — Google review
Very peaceful and relaxing park to just slow down and enjoy the moment. Multiple groups come here to hang out, play soccer, eat, and enjoy nature. The views are nice, the lawn is well maintained and there are multiple food options nearby. Honestly a great park.
Christian P — Google review
Came here in July recently. At first entered the Park at the south end near the Tennoji station to visit Keitakuen Garden. Then left as there wasn't much else but ended up re-entering the park at the north end after walking along the road. There is also a pond here with some water lilies. Good for a stroll if have time to spare.
Google L — Google review
Beautiful park in heart of Osaka with plenty of cherry trees waiting to fully bloom in the next couple days. It is adjacent to a zoo. Easy get in by using public transportation (bus, JR trains). There is a scenic spot where you can take a nice photo of Tsutenkaku tower.
Lê K — Google review
You know what pairs shockingly well with koi ponds and lotus flowers? Pro wrestling. We rolled into this park expecting a post-sushi stroll and maybe a few turtles. What we got was WWE: Osaka Edition under blazing sun and white tents. Tennoji Park, as a green space, is already doing the most—it’s got a wide central promenade, fountains doing their best impression of Versailles, turtles floating with the chill of retirees, and that beautiful red bridge that makes every photo look like a Studio Ghibli still. But Japan, being Japan, decided that wasn’t enough. Cue: a full-blown weekend festival, complete with curry booths, EU sausages, ice cream trucks, and a man in Lycra getting body-slammed ten feet from a fountain. The entire event looked like someone spun a “What kind of party should we throw?” wheel and it landed on Yes. The food tents were no joke—lining up with military-grade tape lanes, serving dishes that ranged from fiery Thai basil chicken to something labeled “Spicy Mongolia Power” (which felt like a dare and tasted like regret). Everything was good, reasonably priced, and freshly cooked by someone sweating bullets in a 35°C heatwave, bless them. Locals gathered under shade tents with fans, umbrellas, and hydration plans. Kids posed with the big OSAKA sign like they were getting ready to launch their YouTube travel channel. And somehow, it all just worked. Tennoji Park is a gem on any day. But on a random summer weekend? It turns into a wild fusion of nature walk, street food heaven, and Raw is War. Come for the peaceful koi pond. Stay for the suplexes and soft serve.
Jim R — Google review
What a beautiful, more formal, Japanese park. We sat watching the herons in the lake from under a shelter and wandered around the park. Just beautiful.
Motor F — Google review
Highlights of this park includes Chausu Yama, Kawazoikoike, Keitakuen Garden, and the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts. There is a combined ticket available for Keitakuen Garden, and the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts.

absolutely amazing park and one of if not the best ive been to, the park is very beautiful and feels very open especially in april when the cherry blossoms bloom, also id recommend going here around 4-6pm so you can get the amazing sunset view and id also say to bring a tarp to picnic in tenshiba

Museums
The Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts, established in 1936, is a large museum located within Tennoji Park. It houses an extensive collection of ancient and modern Chinese and Japanese art. The main building features special exhibitions and collections exhibitions, showcasing over 8,000 works including Japanese and Chinese paintings, sculptures, craft objects, as well as items from shrines and temples.
I visited around 2pm on a weekday it was really nice. Not what I expected but still you can go through the rooms and check the history behind lots of artifacts. Worth visiting.
Maria S — Google review
While the garden is a nice brief visit, the museum itself is nearly empty. The only exhibits to be found are on the second floor, and the rest of the museum is either off-limits or simply barren. Maybe in the future their collection will improve but as of now this is a place to skip.
Guam S — Google review
Nice place where you can relax and enjoy the art. Not exactly the biggest museum, but the permanent art exhibition is good and worthy to visit. The garden is nice too so additional 100 Yen is no brainer.
Vit K — Google review
I visited in the evening thinking it would be relatively empty, but it was full of people because of its popularity.
Y H — Google review
Exceptional! It is a place to cool off and relax, and you can enjoy the beautiful ancient art from China and Japan.
Lex E — Google review
Smaller than I expected but still very cool! The budda statues were super awesome. And we got in free as Kansai Gaidai students !
Gabriella — Google review
The website says open But at the entrance They say there are no tickets left. This was the last minute decision and after reviewing other comments I realize even with reservation it is not worth editing since they want you to pay extra for whatever exhibits they have. Already been to every NYC and Paris and London museums. I think I will skip and continue my beautiful walking tour
Shari B — Google review
While the Van Gogh exposition was nice, at it put a Japanese touch on the subject, the permanent exposition was disappointing to say the least, both in terms of quantity and of quality. The basement anime style drawing gallery is a nice bonus.

Keitakuen Garden is a serene Japanese-themed garden located in Tennoji Park, Osaka. It features rolling hills, bridges, ponds, and native flora that showcase modern landscaping in Japan. Visitors can enjoy a tranquil setting with a sizable pond and a tea house. Nearby, the Ten-Shiba lawn offers an open space for picnics and recreational activities such as futsal and kids' playgrounds.
I visited Tsutenkaku in the morning and then spent some relaxing time at Keitakuen Garden. It was very peaceful and beautifully landscaped, making it a perfect place to take a break.

Do yourself a favour and pay the 300Y entry. It’s 600Y for the museum as well but it was temporarily closed when I went. There was barely anybody around, pretty much had the entire place to myself.
Tash N — Google review
Visited in July recently. While Tennoji Park is free, there is an admission charge to the garden within the park. The Garden is not big but well maintained and nicely manicured. There is a hut with large windows which is good for adverse weather or just spend time looking out to the pond and greenery and with few people about this is a nice place for relaxy time.
Google L — Google review
It’s a lovely in town garden and very close to Tennoji station. You could visit Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts next to the garden. You won’t regret it.
Allen C — Google review
A relaxing Japanese garden next to the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts. Has several scenic spots. Many mosquitoes though.
Nora — Google review
A very beautiful but rather small garden. It’s well-maintained and peaceful, perfect for a short, relaxing walk. Worth a visit if you’re nearby.

Beautiful garden in the city with barely any visitors. Its really quiet and a very nice place to relax. Its quite small but i spent around an hour there. Its a lovely walk around but i was a bit scared because there was a lot of bird shit on the floor so i was scared i would get shat on lol. Student entrance fee was 200¥

Shin Sekai, also known as "New World," is a vibrant district in Osaka that was established in 1912. It features a 103-meter tower, numerous restaurants, and souvenir shops. The area is home to various attractions such as Shinsaibashi, Universal Studios Japan, Osaka Castle, Dotonbori, and the Main Tower of Osaka Castle.
Both day time and nighttime visits are fine as long as you don’t miss it. Buildings are all 3D as if popping out. The shopping arcade also have retro gaming centers for nostalgic experiences. Place is touristy but a must visit
Chee K — Google review
Great neighborhood to visit for food and shops and go to the zoo and Tower. I'm not a huge fan of towers or zoos so I'd skip those unless you just love towers or zoos. We did the slide in the tower too but that wasn't that great either. We had the amazing pass so those things were all included in the pass so it was worth it for me to do those things but I wouldn't pay for those on their own.
Brett B — Google review
I loved visiting Shinsekai! There are many shops and eateries in the area. There is one long and wide street with smaller streets and lanes branching out from it. I really enjoyed exploring as many as I could. There were arcade like stores to play at as well. I ended up spending more time here than I planned. The area was busy with many tourists but I thought this added to the exciting atmosphere. I would highly recommend visiting!
Map R — Google review
Bright and lively and lots of food. Really depends what you want to eat. Creative sign boards capture tourist attention. And this place is not as crowded as Dotonburi area. Travelling with kids will have some down side. Japanese are strict when it comes to shop that sells alcohol. No entry for minor less than 20.
Ong Y — Google review
Compared to other street markets, this one was really small. It is also older and little bit dirty. There are few food, shoe and apparel stores. The prices of products similar to other markets. Being right next to Osaka Tower there are plenty of tourists in the area but we didn’t anyone doing much shopping. Everyone was taking photos in front of the market sign. When we went most of the stores were closed. It looked nothing like what we saw in others pictures. Better to come here at night time.
Nehal A — Google review
This area is really unique, and you have to try it once or more when you're in Osaka. Very local feeling, away from the hustle and bustle and skyscrapers. Small shops and izakayas with local food and culture. One of the top highlights in Osaka

🎡 Shinsekai – Nostalgic Chaos and Culinary Delights in Osaka Shinsekai, meaning “New World,” is one of Osaka’s most eccentric and character-rich neighborhoods—a place where retro charm, local grit, and neon chaos collide. Originally developed in the early 20th century with Paris and New York as design inspirations, the area now feels like a time capsule from postwar Japan, layered with decades of pop culture, street food, and working-class energy. At the center stands Tsutenkaku Tower, a beloved symbol of Osaka’s skyline. While modest in height, its observation deck offers panoramic views and a quirky shrine to Billiken, the “God of Things As They Ought to Be.” Surrounding the tower is a maze of narrow streets packed with colorful signs, pachinko parlors, and restaurants serving Osaka’s signature dishes. Shinsekai is especially famous for kushikatsu—deep-fried skewers of meat, seafood, and vegetables. Shops like Daruma and Yaekatsu serve up crispy, golden bites with a side of local banter. Just remember: no double-dipping in the communal sauce. Despite its gritty reputation, Shinsekai is safe and welcoming, especially during the day. It’s a great place to experience Osaka’s casual, humorous spirit. Whether you're here for the food, the retro vibes, or the photo ops, Shinsekai offers a raw, authentic slice of the city that’s hard to forget.

This place would have been quite an attraction when it was opened a long time ago, but still worth a visit for modern day tourists. The old video games was a surprise find. Lots of them and all in good working condition. The photo does not do it justice.

Amusement park
Universal Studios Japan is a vibrant theme park that brings the magic of beloved American films to life, nestled in the bustling city of Osaka. Since its grand opening in 2001, this expansive park has become a must-visit destination for movie enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike. Spanning over 54 hectares, it offers an array of exhilarating rides and attractions inspired by iconic movies and animated characters.
We had such a great time visiting Universal Studios! We bought our tickets from the official Universal website, but since we had read that it would be very busy especially for the rides and Nintendo World we decided to purchase the Fast Pass through Klook, which turned out to be the best decision! It allowed us to enjoy our day much more and make the most of our time. As for Nintendo World, we didn’t enjoy it as much as we expected because it was extremely crowded everywhere. It was impossible to enter without a reservation, so we had to wait until our Fast Pass time slot to get in. Overall, the experience was fun and memorable, but for better time management, I highly recommend getting the Fast Pass. Even though it’s a bit pricey, it truly helps you make the most of your visit and enjoy your day much more.

We visited Universal Studios on a Thursday during the Halloween event and had an express pass for timed entry into the Super Nintendo World and included 4x express pass for rides. Overall, the rides were really enjoyable and wait times not too long apart from Mine cart Madness. For the Flying Dinosaur and Hollywood Dream, these rollercoasters are quite intense, so it is probably only advisable to try these if you know that you enjoy rollercoasters. Highly advise walking around the Harry Potter area and Super Mario areas - the theming for these areas and rides is very impressive. The list below are the rides we tried and the respective wait times. List of rides we went on: * Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (wait time ~15mins using express pass) * Jurassic Park - The Ride (wait time ~ 40mins) * The Flying Dinosaur (wait time ~5mins using express pass) * Illumination's Villain-Con Minion Blast (wait time ~25mins) * Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem (wait time ~30mins) * Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge (wait time ~15mins with express pass) * Mine Cart Madness (wait time ~150mins) * SPYxFAMILY XR Ride (wait time ~10mins with express pass) * JAWS (wait time 10mins) * Hollywood Dream - The Ride (wait time ~5mins with express pass) The Halloween event also started from around 6PM until park closure, which was great to see all of the zombies and characters walking around the Hollywood area of the park. As a side note, they do have zombie-free paths and zones within the park, and the wait times for rides was reduced while this event was ongoing. While keeping to the path inside of the Halloween event area, the characters would not generally interact with you unless you are on the main road part, but everything was safe and enjoyable. Some negatives with the park include us paying for a timed-entry express pass specifically to get into the Nintendo themed area, yet that area got opened up to all of the public before our timed-entry started. It feels like we wasted some of our money on getting the express pass as it was already available and the queues for the rides increased a lot due to this. Also, while the app is very useful for navigating the park, I feel that the signage could be better, with a lot of people having to ask the park staff on where to go rather than logically being able to follow the signs. Overall, a great experience and worth visiting even if you have visited the other Universal Studios parks - there are enough unique rides and attractions to make it worth it!

Universal Studios Japan is a wonderful park for both kids and parents. The atmosphere is vibrant and full of energy—the entertainers and staff may look exhausted, but they continuously smile, dance, and greet guests, pouring their energy into the experience. However, the park can get quite crowded. Unless you opt for a VIP pass, expect to wait around 40 minutes for most attractions. As an American theme park located in Japan, the entry fee is about $90, and while many experiences inside are free, you'll need to budget an additional $90 if you want to access the Mario section (which is really aimed at die-hard fans—not necessarily for everyone). Additionally, if you plan to eat, budget around $50 on average for food (one meal). One thing I found disappointing was the lack of affordable costumes or hats. Offering items around $5-$8 for costumes or Mario hats would enhance the park's atmosphere and foster a greater sense of community among visitors. It would also be a nice touch for guests to choose their favorite movie or franchise and receive a corresponding badge. This could create a sense of unity, similar to the houses at Hogwarts, and enrich the overall experience. A highlight of my visit was the mobile app, which conveniently shows wait times for attractions. It's user-friendly and features two mini-games in PWA format—very fun! I believe the park could benefit from even more interactive quests for visitors to enjoy. (For example, searching for objects while traveling in a park to fill out a badge) Overall, I give Universal Studios Japan a 4 out of 5. It would be great to see more affordable souvenirs available to help visitors feel like a part of the studio, as the audience and fans are just as much a part of the movie success as the actors and characters themselves.

An amazing experience we arrived at 8am and stayed until dark around 6pm during the Halloween event. Lots of smaller rides for those who are not a fan of the bigger ones. Best by far was Spy Family. Fast paced but enjoyable. Jaws ride is worth it for the laugh and nostalgia. Jurrasic Park was brilliant. An amazing day out! Nintendo World was super busy but worth the visit. Really enjoyed the Pokemon Halloween Party.

We went to USJ on Halloween 2025. It was raining, but this didn't slow the excitement of the crowd. So many people dressed in character. The lines are long, get in the park early and tackle your number 1 ride early. Book an Express Path before you enter to ensure you get more rides for less waiting. The animinotronics and rides are awesome. Go the some of the shows, sure they are spoken in Japanese, but the emotion of the actors and staff tells the story. Highly recommend the Jaws tour. Awesome.

Universal Studios JP is truly a world-class theme park, offering an unforgettable adventure for all ages. Everything here, from the thrilling, immersive rides and shows to the high-quality dining and services, is top-notch. The park boasts cutting-edge hardware and creative software, bringing your favorite movies and TV shows to life. You can step right into the magic, whether soaring high with Pteranodons in Jurassic Park or strolling through iconic film sets. For many, this is a place of cherished family tradition. I remember my father bringing our whole family when I was a child. Now, I have the joy of bringing my wife and kids to experience the same excitement! It's more than just a day out; it's a destination that creates lifelong happy memories across several generations. Every visit feels like a brand-new, exciting chapter.

Lots of people. Please buy your tickets on klook with a timed entry into Nintendo World. If u LOVE rides, please just spend the money on fast pass. Alot of shopping and queuing. Food choices are alot. U will really spend a full day there. I went during Halloween season so the night time, it get transform into Halloween theme with deatheaters. Amazing space.

Universal Studios Japan, was a fun experience but we learned a few lessons from our trip. If your visiting here on vocation or overseas book your tickets and fast passes 3-6 months in advance. Tickets and fast passes get sold out quickly. Some popular rides can have more than 2 hour wait times if you dont have the fast passes. Try to avoid going during Japan's silver, gold weeks and really popular holidays like Halloween and Christmas as it will be even packed more than usual. If your traveling with family and or little ones it would probably be more preferable to get multi-day pass instead of a single day. Check the hight requirements for rides beforehand as they will strictly adhere to the policy if your kids are not tall all enough, regardless if you ride with them or not. Some restaurants in Universal Studios Japan require reservation so sign up early before they get packed and fill up around 11 am. Bring extra spending money as the gift shops have a lot of fun items to buy. The minion section of theme park was done really well and enjoyed it. The Super Mario Park is fun and designed well but was smaller than I had imagined and was really packed too. The Jaws boat ride was fun but the water explosions and fire can scare the little ones 😅. There was still much we couldn't do or experience during this trip to USJ but would definitely go again and plan it better.

Nature & Parks
Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is one of the largest aquariums globally, featuring diverse marine life from Arctic to tropical regions. The 16+ replicated environments include an Ecuadorian jungle, Tasmanian sea, Monterey Bay, and the Great Barrier Reef. The descending spiral layout showcases tanks representing the Pacific Ocean's ring of fire and houses whale sharks, sea otters, crustaceans, and deep-sea creatures. Visitors can admire jellyfish in tall crystalline tanks at the final exhibit.
All I can say is wow!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩 First tip - buy your tickets in advance!!! This way you won’t get caught up waiting in the queues! This aquarium is something else! The animals are so well cared for, the exhibits are gorgeous, there’s 2 gift shops for those all important souvenirs and plenty of places to get a drink and something to eat (including a Starbucks)! You do battle with crowds whilst going round, but it’s still worth visiting! It’s also an amazing opportunity to see Whale Sharks!

The best aquarium I’ve ever been to! There are so many kinds of fish, all displayed in very interesting sections. You can learn a lot here, and it’s a great place to bring kids. There’s a wide variety of fish from different waters — really impressive! I spent more than 2 hours here and still didn’t feel bored at all. I highly recommend buying the ticket from their website instead of at the counter — the line can be super long, and having the online ticket saved me hours of waiting!

Fascinating! Great collection of various species. Very interesting! We didn't have a reservation, so we had to wait around 1,5h to enter. Good point that you don't have to wait all this time in the queue (they sell tickets for specific time slot and the queue for that is very fast, I think we spent less than 10 minutes to buy the tickets). There is a market nearby(~3 mins by feet) where you can have lunch while waiting. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded inside, especially in front of the aquariums with some interesting kind of fish but if you wait just a bit, you can fully enjoy the view :)

Whale sharks! If you love fishes, aquatic animals, and invertebrates you NEED to go. I arrived on a weekday in late afternoon, after purchasing tickets we were able to go in soon after. It was a bit busy with people by the time we went in but the area is spacious so it did not feel too crowded. The aquarium teaches a lot about the Pacific Rim and the many inhabitants. From cute otters, to massive sea creatures and cuddly looking penguins. This aquarium has it all! Make sure you being some coins for the gacha gachas as well as some money for the gift shop. Some items at the gift shop was limited stock so go a bit early. Also don't forget a stamp book, there are stamps on each layer throughout the aquarium.

The aquarium is famously know for the beautiful whale sharks but it is also home to many other sea animals. We say otters, penguins, dolphins, different types of sharks, crabs, turtles, sealions, eels and more. It was a great visit ! We booked a ticket in advance so we didn't have to queue. Stop buy the second shop to get cute goodies and a ramune ice cream. 😋

Whenever is possible during our trips,my familiy is visiting aquarium. This one is excellent, but mot on the level like in Lisabon and Valecia, but better than many. Main attraction is central tube shape aquarium with whole eco system and many spices livong togather. This aquarium and water animals are living togather and you can observe them from any angle and also tracks ate sloral and you are going fro. Top to the bottom of the tank. Light is dimmed due to environment of natural conditions how this water world animals live. Aquarium is well organized. Be prepared to wear sometnig more worm for part with penguines. Overall is worth to visit Osaka aquarium as one of top 5 attractions in this city.

One of the best aquariums we have visited - the dolphins, seals, and otters were a joy to watch as they seemed to enjoy swimming around and were being very playful with each other and with their toys. With the type of glass used, we were also able to see these animals up close. Glass and water are kept clean as it was all very clear. It was also a very spacious and comfortable layout to walk through. The tank with the whale shark was amazing as well. Overall, a definite must visit in Osaka.

Super awesome aquarium! Spent about 2.5 hours there. Definitely buy tickets ahead of time. We watched an emperor penguin puke his guts out, so so funny. Highlight of our time there 😂. There are so many different viewing areas for the Whale Shark tank so don’t get held up at that very first window, just walk past that big crowd and go to the 20+ viewing areas that come right after.

Tennōji Station is conveniently located in Osaka, with easy access from various metro lines and JR Tennoji Station. It's a great starting point for visiting Tennoji Zoo, which may not be huge but offers an affordable and enjoyable experience for families with young children. Additionally, travelers can enjoy the exceptional experience of riding the JR Yamatoji Sen when visiting Kansai. The station is spacious and situated near the impressive Abeno building, one of Japan's tallest structures.
Here, Osaka folds past and future together. Skyscrapers shine above the temple roofs; trams glide through cherry blossoms. Tennoji feels like wisdom made visible — a place that remembers but keeps moving forward. Tourist Tip: Major hub linking JR, Kintetsu, and Hankai Lines. Visit Abeno Harukas observation deck and Shitennoji Temple. Perfect balance of modern shopping and ancient calm.

This JR station is beside the larger Abenobashi station. While not as big as the other train stations in Osaka, it has a lot of places to visit, shop and eat at! The exit of the station doesn't look too impressive when you first step out, but if you go around the corner you will find a lot of shops, a little MIO mall and elevators to lots of nice restaurants. This is also the station to take the JR Kansai airport express train. Free if you have a JR Pass!!! So if you have enough time, look around and shop/eat before flying away. It's probably a bit cheaper here than at the airport.

The Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel in Osaka is a must-visit attraction, standing at 112.5 meters tall and offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. With a diameter of 100 meters, it's one of the world's largest Ferris wheels and can accommodate up to 480 passengers in its 60 cabins. Located just a short walk from Osakako Station and adjacent to the Kaiyukan aquarium, this iconic landmark provides an unforgettable experience for visitors.
JY900 per adult. We waited about 20min for a glass bottomed gondola. It was not busy if you just wanted an ordinary one. You could walk straight on. The ride takes around 15min and you do one rotation of the wheel. The views of Osaka are amazing and well worth the ride. Staff were very friendly. It's next to a good shopping centre as well.

Ok so I did go on an afternoon in the summer holidays in August so the queue was about 40 mins but I didn’t have to book ahead. The ride is incredible, weirdly thrilling because of the rocking of the gondolas as you go up. Whole ride is about 30 mins to go all the way round which I think is great value, and inside the gondolas they have little maps in each direction to point out the sights etc Honestly really fun, and right next to the an aquarium. I went on a whim because the aquarium tickets were sold out for the day and it really turned my day around. Thank you Tempozan Ferris Wheel, you really turned my frown upside down.

This is my second ferris wheel ride in Osaka after the Hep five in Umeda. The entrance area is much easier to find, feel more relaxed and less stressful than Hep Five. And I could say I like Tempozan much more. The scenary is great and the view have great balance between shore and the cities. The duration is also perfect. Not too long and not too short, it end exactly when I want it to end. The ticket price is okay I think it's a good way to pass time if you're waiting for your entry to the Kaiyukan Aquarium or Santa Maria cruise as these three location is very close to each other.

Riding the Tempozan Ferris Wheel was an incredible experience. Located near Osaka’s bay area, the Ferris wheel offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, Osaka Bay, and on clear days, even Mount Ikoma and Akashi Kaikyō Bridge in the distance. The ride is smooth and relaxing, and the cabins are spacious and well-maintained, making it comfortable for families, couples, and solo travelers alike. I especially enjoyed seeing the city lights sparkle in the evening — it was truly magical. The area around the Ferris wheel, including Tempozan Marketplace and Tempozan Park, adds to the fun, making it easy to spend a few hours exploring before or after the ride.

I personally think the Tempozan Ferris Wheel is a great place for couples to experience together! 🎡 The adult ticket costs only 900 yen, which is quite affordable, and one full rotation takes about 15 minutes. I recommend going around 4 p.m. or closer to sunset — if the weather is good, you might get to see a beautiful sunset! Inside the cabin, you’ll have your own private space, so you can even play some music to set the perfect mood. It’s especially nice to visit after exploring the aquarium — just time it right and enjoy the ride!

Isshin-ji Temple, a traditional temple dating back to the 12th century, is a unique blend of ancient history and modern architecture. The temple features strikingly modern steel entrance gates and beautiful gardens. It is known as a site for praying to cure alcoholism and for laying the ashes of the dead to rest, with a tradition dating back to a 17th-century battle in Osaka.
Charming temple, but inside is only for those praying and making offerings. The exterior is beautiful enough though and it’s interesting to watch locals go there, light their incense and make a prayer. I was worried because I wasn’t planning this visit and I was wearing shorts, but no one told me anything (I stayed outside, though).

Buddhist temple here. This is difference with Shinto shrine. Buddhist temple let you offer incense and candle to Buddha and Bodhisattva. There’s a kiosk to buy both in temple area. There’s no amulet for sales but decorated candle and praying beads instead. Next to the temple, there’s a ten thousands Buddha hall that allow you to offer candle and incense as a path of making merit. You have to go outside the temple gate and walk in the alley next to temple (to the right hand side when you go out of temple). Candle offering is to float it in a glass. A box of incense is enough to put each in incense pot around the hall. You can’t bring your own candle/incense. Please buy at the hall. This is quite a peace of mind offering candle and incense while walking around the hall here.

This is known as the common people’s temple, because about 20k persons ashes are brought to the temple every year and a statue of Amitabha Buddha (Amituofo pure land) is made from these 200,000 persons’ ashes after 10 years. It gives death a different meaning to contribute for public good. The surrounding area has beautiful temples assembly hall, which you should visit to see the trinity of Avaloskitesvara, Vajrapani and Amitabha inside a dome surrounded by golden Buddhas.

This temple is not in the tourist places, however, this one is one of the most beautiful modernist buildings temple. The stamp is also nice and only 300 yen.

This is a beautiful temple with a modern design. You will recognize something is different with this temple right away as you enter the initial doors. This temple has its guardians above the door in large statues. The doors are also carved with goddesses on the door panels. These are unlike traditional Japanese temples and shrines where the guardians are usually inside of a structure next to the doors. Once inside, you will find many of the usual structures but designed in new and modernized methods. Overall, a really nice experience.

Kushiage and kushikatsu restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Kitashinchi Kushikatsu Bon is a Michelin-starred restaurant located just a short walk from Kitashinchi Station in Osaka. The sleek and contemporary design of the restaurant sets the stage for an exquisite dining experience. Led by Chef Kenji Otani, the restaurant offers a variety of deep-fried skewered meats and vegetables, including A5 rank Wagyu beef and premium seafood like Kue (Longtooth Grouper).
Amazing food, amazing service, genuinely never had so much fun at a restaurant before. Everything was so well cooked, they describe what we are eating and the vegetables are so crisp and light to balance the fried skewers. We had the 16 skewer set and it was quite filling. The chef and the service staff were so helpful and polite and we can’t wait to come again.
Belle T — Google review
Food tasted a little bland but was expertly fried. The staff don’t really speak English and were nice. The upgrade to the Wagyu sandwich was interesting but probably not worth it. Basically you tell them when you are full or they will keep serving you, they charge per skewer. However, they did not give me an itemized receipt so it felt very expensive.
Susie S — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed our kushikatsu 18-skewer course - ingredients are allowed to sing as the even, thin layer of batter adds a delicate crisp that doesn’t complements, not overwhelms. Fried ice-cream was the perfect ending to the meal.
Barbara O — Google review
We made reservations at this renowned one-Michelin-star restaurant in Osaka’s Kitashinchi district, celebrated for its kushiage — expertly deep-fried, breaded skewers. Recommended by a friend, the experience largely lived up to expectations. Each skewer was perfectly executed, with standout selections including the duck, uni with caviar, and foie gras. That said, I was somewhat disappointed that my birthday, which had been noted on the reservation, was not acknowledged, particularly as other guests received flowers and a celebratory dessert.
V.FY. L — Google review
Located in a basement (B1 floor) with a narrow and not-so-clean corridor. But the restaurant itself is great. I experienced an amazing 20-course dinner. Almost every course is tasty. The chef also recommends the best sauce for each course. Overall a super nice experience.
Flying Q — Google review
APRIL 2023 Reserved online in advance and selected the special meat skewer course. Dined at the counter where you can see the chefs prepare and deep fry the skewers. For each skewer they will recommend the sauce to pair with. The batter was light and crisp and did not feel greasy, ingredients were fresh and tasty. A lot of high grade ingredients were included in the course such as A5 wagyu, truffle, foie gras and caviar. The course took two hours finish, food and service was great.
Barry — Google review
Kushikatsu at its finest. Although I don't have a comparison, I've had many a katsu during my time and the batter here is light, with the focus on the produce. We managed to finish all 25 courses, and also the supplementary items - salad, miso soup with soba, wagyu sando and the dessert course. The highlights for us were - the first course, crab, all the Wagyu pieces, fish eggs with uni and caviar, bear meat and finally the tomato and cheese with proscuitto. The fried chocolate was also superb. Not easy to find, in the basement amongst a bundle of restaurants, and when you go downstairs second restaurant on your right. Not a lot of transparency with pricing but we had the full 25 course menu + a bottle of Hakkaisan sake + a cocktail for about ¥43,000 (for 2 people). Hopefully this gives you a ballpark.
Juliet Z — Google review
When it comes to quality of foods, when you are exploring the place you’ve never been to in Japan. i can give you one tip. The smaller restaurant sign or the simpler sign, the better. This Kushikatsu restaurant is no joke. Frying batter is so nice and thin, you can feel zero oiliness of the Kushikatsu even though it is deep fried. Frying batter is not overpowering and giving some extra crispiness and crunchness depending on the ingredients which is so good! You don’t have to worry about the smell lingering in your clothes. Their frying utencil and system is creative and geniously perfect!

Subway station
Dobutsuen-Mae Station is conveniently located in Osaka, providing easy access to various parts of the city and beyond. It's just a short walk from several other stations, making it a central hub for transportation. Additionally, the area around Dobutsuen-Mae Station is popular among train enthusiasts for capturing photos of subway trains above ground.
We stayed near Dobutsuen-mae Station during our recent trip to Osaka, and overall, it was a very convenient location—especially as we were traveling with a stroller and small children. The station is connected to both the Midosuji Line and Sakaisuji Line, making it easy to get to major attractions like Namba, Umeda, and Tennoji. Despite being an older station, we were pleasantly surprised by how stroller-friendly it was. There are two elevators at the North 1 exit area—one near the Mega Don Quijote (great for quick shopping) and another closer to the Tennoji Zoo exit. Both elevators made it manageable to move around without needing to carry the stroller up or down stairs. Signage is not the clearest, so you may need to look around a bit, but once you find the elevators, everything gets much easier. What surprised us was the zoo-themed decorations near the Tennoji Zoo gate area. There’s a mini rest and play area just outside the station with cute animal characters and benches—perfect for kids to stretch their legs or have a quick snack before continuing the day. It’s a small touch, but it made the experience feel more family-oriented and welcoming.
MOHAMAD M — Google review
Very convenient station to do your transfer from the Midosuji line to JR rail line to travel to Kansai Airport. This station is actually the gateway to the Zoo. Today happens to be Japan's National Foundation Day, so there were a lot of local families visiting the zoo. Overall, this station is very easy to navigate due to the clear signage available at every entry or exit points.

Very nice employees, we had no idea how to work the subway ticket machine and the employee told us to just put money into the machine and the fare amounts will light up. Thank you!! 2 platforms. Escalators going up, no going down. A couple vending machines and lockers are available too. Limited seating on each platform, about 4 on each side.
Jenae L — Google review
The faint rumble of trams, the smell of curry and fried skewers — Dobutsuen-Mae is Osaka’s working heart. It doesn’t hide its scars; it celebrates them. Every corner hums with nostalgia, kindness, and stubborn hope. Tourist Tip: Transfer to Sakaisuji and JR Lines. Visit Tennoji Zoo, Tsutenkaku Tower, and Shinsekai’s retro alleys. Bring cash; many shops are old-style and charmingly analog.

The station attendant at Exit 2 was extremely rude and unhelpful. My 1st time arrived at the station in the morning of 16th September, I wasn't sure of which train tickets I should get to reach Kyoto. Tenshiba is a spacious grassy area within Tennoji Park, spanning about 7000 square meters and offering a versatile space for various activities. Visitors can indulge in picnics, outdoor games, and relaxation on the expansive lawn. The area is surrounded by an array of amenities including cafes, restaurants, and even a flower shop. Families with children can take advantage of the playground while sports enthusiasts can make use of the futsal courts.
We spent some lovely times in this park. It's hard to imagine it's right in the heart of the city. Very little traffic or train noise. Excellent range of cafés. We felt very safe here, as everywhere in Japan, without the need for police or security. Nice to sit under some trees in the shade. Very close to other amenities including the zoo, formal gardens, galleries, underground and shopping centres.

Train station
Shin-Imamiya Station is a bustling transportation hub in Osaka, known for its convenient access to major railway lines. While some visitors have noted the presence of homeless and intoxicated individuals, exercising common sense in public spaces can help mitigate any concerns. The station opens as early as 5 am and offers amenities such as elevators, convenience stores, and Nankai line restrooms. Despite occasional crowding during morning hours, trains generally operate punctually.
This station is located near Dobutsuen-mae on the Midosuji and Sakaisuji lines of the Osaka Metro. It's a short walk from Tsūtenkaku tower. It's crowded during rush hours so be careful not to lose your way. There are plenty of toilets at the station. But mind the queue, at times it will get longer.
Anova F — Google review
Access for elevator is easiest at North exit. Please refer to photo for guide. There won’t be any stairs between level 1 to level 2, and no stairs from level 2 to 4 for rap:it . You can follow the guide and take elevator right to platform but do note from level 1, go to 2 (the sign will show JR station but it’s ok) then on the right side there are colored arrows to take the lift from 2 to 4 for Kansai. It is correct.
Sod O — Google review
The station is too small. Queue for elevator takes forever. Try to prevent this one if you’re going to airport, especially with heavy luggages.

Two different station for Subway and Airport Nankai line. You should come early to buy ticket for airport line due to limited ticket in peak time. Easily pay by cash on vending machine or using Suica card. Always clean on platform and toilet. Staff are friendly and supporting.

Electric lights, the scent of curry, and laughter echo through retro alleys. Shin-Imamiya feels raw, real, alive — Osaka’s heartbeat with its sleeves rolled up. Tourist Tip: Close to Tsutenkaku Tower and Shinsekai. Affordable lodging for backpackers. Lively but safe at night. Visit Jan-Jan Yokocho for classic Osaka street eats.
Stray L — Google review
Short walk away from the Dobutsuen-Mae Station, this JR station is convenient to connect to Rinku-town or Kansai Airport directly itself. Make sure you are lining up at the correct platform as the signage is very clear to indicate which carriage you need to board to ensure that you arrive at the correct destination. Ride was pleasant and smooth and we arrived at Rinku-town as scheduled.

If you go to Koyasan from here, make sure you take the Limited Express, not the regular Express. Otherwise your connection will be half an hour longer and you will have to change in Hashimoto. This makes an already a long trip from Osaka even longer and the station employee was not able to explain this difference.

Embark on a captivating journey to the Shitennoji Temple Middle Gate, also known as Niomon, located just a short stroll from Tennoji Station. As one of Japan's oldest temples and the first state-established Buddhist site, it offers an authentic glimpse into history despite undergoing several restorations. The temple’s serene atmosphere is enhanced by its restriction on tourist buses, allowing for unobstructed views perfect for photography enthusiasts.
It’s one of the oldest state built temple in Japan. N the best thing is that no tourist buses can come in, hence no flags blocking u to get that perfect ig shots. Entrance to inner sanctum costs 500yen, but this contributes to maintaining the ancient scriptures and paintings. A very under rated place, but definitely worth coming for the uninterrupted shots and a must come for cherry blossoms in spring.
