Famous Peter's Sports bar where you can have a drink or proper lunch. Has outdoor seating area overlooking the marina. Had beetroot humus salad with is a local take on blending beetroot with chickpeas where you get about 150 grams of beets pulsed with chickpeas. Bit watery and lacks humus texture. Rating 5 out of 10. Hamburger was good with rating 7 out of 10. Simple salad was with fresh veggies (iceberg, tomatoes, cucumber and pickled onions). Rating 7 out of 10. Great coffee. Octopus was good with rating 8 out of 10. Falafel was a good portion of 4 pieces and was decently done with my rating of 7 out of 10. Overall bill was 75 Euro.

I will not talk about all food (honestly some I dont like), but the fish soup and coconut pudding are the best 🫶😭 I will miss. P.S. Good music inside. Would be nice to add local wine by glasses.

A very cool spot where you can really feel the history around you. It’s laid-back and low key, with a local G&T you definitely shouldn’t miss—plus it’s super affordable. And the chocolate cake? Absolutely delicious—I’d love to get the recipe!

Well packed and touristy which affected the service, very bish, bash, bosh, see ya later alligator. However, the place looks great and the atmosphere was buzzing. The food, good. They accept cards.

Best place on the island! Super atmospheric, with a cool history, friendly people, and a very tasty breakfast. If you order orange juice and add one espresso, it will be a bumble coffee 👌 Just try it!

The atmosphere is nice ⛵ Staff is friendly and the service is attentive. (Waited a few minutes for a table) But the food is not worth the hype - 🍔🍟 it was almost cold when served, tasted average and a bit overpriced. But huge portions and drink prices are ok to be fair. I would rather go here for a drink. 🍺🍸

The steak was tasty but it was hard to cut and had a lot of hard tissue. Talked with a waiter about it, he mentioned the cut is not always the same. Staff was attentive suggesting a hot stone replacement. Chocolate mousse was really good.

I visited this little hole in the wall restaurant on Rua Nova, Horta, Azores; however, looks can be deceiving! Inside the restaurant was beautiful and elegant! Delicious and fresh foods that everyone cooks and seasons individually at their table on a hot volcanic stone. It was so much fun for our party of nine and the food was plentiful and couldn’t have been any better! One of our servers was Victoria. She was so good that I had to include her in this review! She was not only on the top of her game as a caring, polite, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive server; but, she also helped me plan a little surprise between our party of 8 and our incredible tour guide Leandro!The restaurant is open from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm and 6:30-11:00 pm 7 days a week. You can get Filet Mignon, Strip Steak, Pork Loin, Boneless Chicken Cutlet, and/or Shrimp. They also have combo plates. All selections are served with sweet potato or regular fries, bread and butter or oil, salad and chocolate pudding. All selections are cooked on a hot volcanic stone by YOU at your table! It’s a great experience; not to be missed!

Sorry that I didn’t take a picture of the food. It’s simply because it’s so good that I was busy cooking and eating. Wonderful experience! Extremely friendly service! Highly recommend it.

The place is so smokey from the hot stones our eyes watered, and the smell is bad. Our hot stones ran out of heat before we could cook all of the food on our mixer special platter and noone offered to change our stones untill we desided to checkout, each meat/fish tasted the same bland smokey taste. Disappointed.

This is a very genuine and empathetic restaurant where you cook your own stone grilled fish or squid. Really different from other places. Even cheaper depending on your selection. Wine is well chosen too, an offer of 37,5 cl bottles of Douro. I recommend this place.

They just have a "concept" to cook your own meat. Otherwise, the portions are so small that I could still eat elsewhere. The service is less than bad, and they don't even understand the easiest words in English. Don't eat here, there is so many other great restaurants in the area.

We had a decent meal at Genuino, but to be honest, we have eaten better elsewhere on Faial for less money. But I guess the fact that Genuino is situated in Horta means the prices are higher. As a starter I ordered the fish soup which was ok, but served at almost boiling temperature. Way too hot! The polvo was very tasty, but it took way too long before we got served our main course. Sadly this restaurant does not offer outdoor seating. It is a popular place, so make sure you make a reservation beforehand. Staff was fluent in English.

The seafood is exceptionally fresh, and the grilled octopus is the highlight—perfectly tender with a subtle char and incredible flavor. Pair it with a local Azorean wine for a memorable meal. Highly recommended for anyone who loves great service and top-quality seafood.

The service was great. Our waitresses were kind and did their best to answer all the questions we had. No reservation and no wait time! Our fish dinner plates were delicious

To be avoided, To begin with, the welcome was very confusing and, despite a reservation made over a week ago, we had to wait an hour for our table without any explanation. Despite a large number of seats, the manager was unable to seat only 4 people who had already reserved! Out of four entrees ordered, only two were served. Fish dishes such as tuna were overcooked and over-salted. As the wine ordered was not available, the waiter told us that there was only one bottle left at that price, but on checking the bill, it turned out that the wine was €10 more expensive. I'd advise you to do your own sums. As a guide, this restaurant is to be avoided at all costs!

Our main courses were lukewarm. Our best guess is that the fish had been pre-cooked and then an attempt made to reward it. Even the boiled potatoes were just above room temperature. The waiter did her best but obviously the restaurant is understaffed. It was a zoo at the checkout in order to pay. We have paid less for better food in the Azores.

Fish with rice and pasta were delicious. The wine was very good and you must try the ice cream with liquor.

Fusionny type of restaurant. Appreciated the creative approach to the dishes, although I personally found them underwhelming. My partner and I shared the bruschetta , it was fine. The marination of the chicken overpowered the typically fresh nature of bruschetta. I think smaller pieces would have made the dish a bit easier to handle. I ordered the ribs. They were surprisingly dry, and tasted as though the sauce had been applied right before being served. My partner ordered the local fish, served on a coconut dish and he enjoyed it. The restaurant has a great ambiance though and we had a good experience.

Absolutely delicious food! Great fish of the day and octopus. The coconut puree changed my life. We were at first deterred by the outdoors seating next to the road. But the inside is really lovely.

This restaurant offers probably the finest dining in Horta. We had main courses of fish, chicken and spare ribs. The fish and chicken were perfect. The pork could have been a little softer. The potato that accompanied the ribs was so yummy. The place compares successfully to the best restaurants we went to in Lisbon. Very decent choice of wines and concise, precises and quick service.

Lovely little place a little outside the center. Great approach to their food - some very unexpected, but delicious mixes of flavours. We had the ribs (a little on the dry side, but very flavourful) and the fish of the day on rice and hummus (absolute recommendation, lovely mix of flavours and temperatures). The staff had great recommendations, the best of which was the Green Tea/Black Tea cake for dessert - hands down one of the best desserts we’ve had in years. Flavours went together so well, a little sweet and a little salty, but not too overwhelming - would definitely order again. Also, the rose sangria was very refreshing and very reasonably priced.

No bookings. Try the sausage starter and the octopus rice. Or the seafood soup and the fish main. Yummy. Had some nice artisanal beers and a house gin you could scuba in!

Imagine going out for dinner, sending back a steak that tasted of prawns, and ending up stuck in the restaurant for over an hour while the police are called. That’s exactly what happened to us here. We ate at this restaurant three times in a row because we initially enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Unfortunately, our third visit turned into a nightmare. One of our steaks tasted strongly of prawns/fish and seemed unsafe to eat, so we sent it back after a few bites. Instead of dealing with the situation directly, the owner summoned us (through staff) to come inside to speak with him. We invited him to come outside to our table instead, but he never did, and no response was offered. To our shock, the steak stayed on the bill. When we refused to pay for a dish we could not eat, the owner threatened to call the police. When we still refused, he did call the police and told us we could not leave. We then had to wait in the restaurant for over an hour until the police finally arrived. The police informed him that the law is clear: if food is unsafe and not eaten, the customer does not have to pay. Only then did he remove the steak from the bill, after first pointing to a sign on his door that falsely claimed otherwise. Based on other reviews, this seems to be his usual practice — whenever customers send food back, he refuses refunds and immediately threatens to call the police, knowing most people will fold and pay to avoid the ordeal. The police proved him wrong, but the whole episode was incredibly stressful and put a very nasty end to an otherwise lovely visit to the island. My advice to others: if the owner threatens to call the police in this situation, don’t be intimidated. Call his bluff — the law is on your side. This is a deeply unpleasant and dishonest practice, and I want to warn others: if you have a problem with the food here, be prepared for intimidation instead of basic customer service.

Taberna do Pim offers a wonderful outdoor seating area that's perfect for watching the sunset - truly a magical setting that draws crowds for good reason. The restaurant is extremely popular and bustling with activity, though they don't take reservations so be prepared to wait for a table. The staff is friendly and welcoming, but the popularity comes with a downside: service can be quite slow due to how busy they get. You'll need to be patient, especially during peak sunset hours. The food quality is good and satisfying once it arrives. However, I'd recommend skipping the house red wine, which was unfortunately not very enjoyable - perhaps stick to other beverage options or ask for wine recommendations. Overall, the price-to-value ratio is reasonable for what you get. If you're willing to wait for a table and don't mind slower service in exchange for that spectacular sunset view and decent food, it's worth a visit. Just plan accordingly and maybe arrive early or be prepared for a longer evening.

Very nice fish soup also servis and restaurant itself. Calamari would be nice to have them written on the menu how they come prepared - we did not expect this little bit boring fried style.

Lovely little find, food was really good, as was the wine. The waiting staff were really friendly and helpful. Be prepared to share a table if you are just a couple. This is a really cozy find and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Good food and service and the most amazing spot to enjoy the sunset in Horta (a few tables outside with views over the beach). Traditional tavern with small menu and very decent options. We tried the tuna steak and the alcatra (beef stew) which were good. Service was fast and super kind. Overall, unique point to have dinner or a glass of wine while enjoying the sunset in the Porto Pim.

Great spot right down town offering both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered firstly order garlic bread, which was not too crispy and grill toasted followed by tuna and sword fish steaks which were flame grilled and came with a potato salad, green salad and a diced tomato salad. All a real good mix we finally finished off with a home made vanilla ice cream with pineapple chunks (sounds weird but actually a really good combo) with a short bead cookie. And a key-lime pie. All dishes were flavourful and showed the chef cares. To drink we ordered the berry sangria.

Such a fantastic ambience and yet so dissatisfying. They have a huge grill but the menu doesn't resemble it (1 fish and 2 meat options). We ended up ordering garlic bread (not crisp at all, just flat bread with oil) and burgers with fries. The burgers were OK, but you would expect a bit more in a restaurant (rather than Burger King). The sauce served on the burger and with the fries contained mint, which you have to like. This sauce should/could be optional at charge. When asking for some ketchup for the fries we were informed quite rudly 3 times that it would cost extra, which we confirmed 3 times. We paid extra just to be given some small plastic bags of ketchup. The mint sauce that no one liked to eat with the burger came free of charge. Service was arrogant and so fast that customers don't really feel welcome to stay. We ate just as quickly, left and we won't come back.

The vegan curry was delicious. The menu is varied and they have an ample choice of appetizers. On the minus side is the service. Only the girl that welcomed us at the door was professional. They have a large cosy courtyard with big tables. If you are not a family or a group of friends, you might be asked to share a table with other guests, which was not at all a problem for us.

The environment itself is lovely... comfortable, and inviting and the outdoor seating area is a huge plus. It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. We had the regional cheese with honey, chicken burger, and Tuna from the grill. We’ll definitely be back!

Unfortunately we had a very mediocre/bad experience tonight. The staff seemed in a bad mood almost across the board. The prices for the main dishes are fairly high compared to the rest of the island and the amount that is on the plate. A steak that we ordered medium came bleue/rare (even less than that, if possible). On request, the steak was grilled again until it was medium, then it was also tasty. The fries were good, crispy, skin on and with nice condiments. The other sides were not very satisfying. The portion of swordfish that we ordered was very small, a little dry but still ok in taste. The fish soup was good. Nothing that’s really up to the restaurant but certainly didn’t contribute to a good experience was people having their bare feet on the benches and others changing the diapers of their babies !on! the tables. All in all we wouldn’t visit again, just not good value for many and no good dining out experience in general.

Stopped for lunch during our tour. Excellent home cooking. A beef and potato type of stew, very tasty fried type of white fish and salad. Wine, red and white was perfect. I purchased two bottles of red to take back to Pico on the ferry for only 5 Euro. Must stop here!

We were traveling with children and we stumbled upon this gem by accident looking for a place to rest. We ended up staying for lunch. The octopus - as a salad and as a main were prepared to perfection. My toddler dislikes fish and devoured the breaded fish. I wanted to try their traditional stewed beef so we took it home for dinner; the kids loved it with rice! We also enjoyed their galao and house chocolate mousse for dessert. We still talk about the food - we all honestly believe the food was the best we had in the Azores. Their genuine kindness and hospitality were truly amazing.

From all the places on Azores this one has been the most unfriendly. Staff is completely uninterested and ignorant. Stopped by there for lunch; they were expecting a big group, so all tables were reserved. Denied to serve food outside, didnt propose any other solution (like a quick soup/sandwich at the bar. Totally ignorant. When mentioning this openly to them a local just intervened a conversation and started arguing with me. Not worth it. I am sure there are better and more welcoming places on Faial.

Amazing food. We ordered octopus salad, grilled tuna, chicken/bacon dish and homemade ice cream. Best octopus salad, a must try. The grilled tuna was perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful even though it looked plain and dry in the picture. Homemade ice cream was yummy and creamy. Great service too.

Best muscles I have ever had in my life!!! Amazing ingredients and fresh produce locally sourced, the waitress was lovely and the owner Aldina was gracious, fitting us in 10 minutes before the restaurant closed, she wouldn’t give us the secret recipe to the muscles because if she did, she would have to kill us!! I had to contemplate as I really wanted that recipe Thankyou for having us!!!!

What a feast. Food and service here were the best of our two weeks in Azores. Everything was tasty, portions were generous, and food came out quite fast. They also accommodated to some needs of our group (a vegan and two celiac). The octopus was amazing, caramel cake and coffee too. Sopa do dia for 1.80€ was a gift. I could go on..

I arrived in Cedros at around 2ish and the guest house I was staying at mentioned that Aldina Restaurant closes at 3pm. I hurried quick and got a table. The kitchen was closing so I decided on having the Octopus Salad. It was delicious. I've been in Cedros for several days now and I've eaten at Aldina's everyday for lunch. Everything has been excellent including the service. They have very nice people working there. The other dishes I've tried are the fried whiting fish and the Bacalhau com natas. The food is filling and delicious. I'm so glad this is right up the street from where I am staying. They have a few tables outside that have a view of the sea. They also have a good beverage selection, including zero alcohol beer. Free WiFi is available.

First off.... staff here is always cheerful and helpful. 2nd....view is BEST in Faial in my opinion!!! Grab a table upstairs/outside ...enjoy the waves, the view of Pico and always cool music. Food is solid, just a limited amount of items. No worries is the wine list is much more in depth. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

We waited 50 mins for our dish to come. The fish of the day was not fresh and came with smelly taste. The only thing positive is the view of beach. Not recommended.

You can show up barefoot from the beach and still feel like you’re dining somewhere special. The food? Fresh, local, and full of flavor. Think seared tuna, island cheeses, creative starters to share, and great vegetarian options too. Everything is made with care and beautifully presented, but without the fuss of fine dining. It’s more “modern Azorean bistro” than traditional — and it works. Drinks? Excellent wine list featuring local producers, plus creative cocktails. Try the local white wine with fresh fish — a perfect match.

The fish was delicious, good service and amazing ambiance! The music with the view is perfect. Definitely recommend for a sunset dinner or even just a cocktail/ coffee.

The food was really mediocre. There were only 3 waiters for full restaurant and it made them rude. The await time was 2h, so you can go there only if you are not hungry 🤣 I will not come back and cannot recommend

Had a fantastic meal here, really nice steak followed by a local dessert. Superb food and friendly service. Bit cold and drafty but otherwise perfect, and I can't fault the value for money.

Nice location with only a few tables and a small menu. Exquisite kitchen using regional products creating high quality dishes. The service was very professional and friendly. Prices were fair.

The dishes are an amazing introduction to Portuguese flavors, it’s a must visit if you are in Horta, the kids loved it, the grown ups adored it.

We had an amazing dinner. An excellent fishsoup followed by a super tender octopus with very special sweet potatoes & a delicous and tender steak. Also the desert was excellent. If you are staying in Horta this place is a must eat and drink. Therefore I also recommend ordering a cocktail, since the barkeeper really knows how to surprise you with something special. Thanks a lot for this wonderful evening. :-) PS.: Service was excellent and super friendly

Amazing fish soup (which i don't have photo of 😅) and fish of the day totally on point (the vegetable and mushrooms were also delicious. Fast and kind service - first time in the azores i got served beer with foam (*happy noises in czech*). The menu is very small, but if everything is as good as the dishes i had, you have much to look forward to ☺️.

A nice roadside bistrot with ocean view if the weather allows it. Prices are reasonable, the daily menu is just 10 euros and the staff is kind. Bonus points for not closing outside of lunch hours, which happens all the time on the Azores.

This restaurant has it all: incredible food, views and service. We had 2 of the 7 fresh fish offered for the day. I had something similar to an amberjack, which I thought was exceptional until I tasted the barracuda!! The coffee pudding for dessert is also not to miss! We were tired after an excursion an we found this place. My little sister was very tired and was rude with the waiter. For our surprise the waiter had a lot of patience and was very kind, he made her laugh again (with doesn’t happen so often). They recommended the fish of the day and it was a great meal, the fish was cooked almost to perfection. I would recommend the cheese as a starter, it’s local and with a lot of flavor! We would come back! Highly recommended !

OMG everything we had (and we had everything) was truly out of this world. The chef owner gladly shared how the food was made and information on the different plates. Great local wine selection. The ceviche and cured fish were the best. Everything fresh and tasty. Too bad we had to go back to Pico as we would have returned for more!

We had the most wonderful dinner at Cantinho das Provas. We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings. The food was simple yet creative, full of flavour and delicious. The wines had been thoughtfully chosen to accompany the meal and were among the best we tried in the Azores. Franz was also a warm and friendly host who told us about viticulture and farming on Pico island and more generally in the Azores. Cantinho is a must for anyone with an appreciation for good food, good wine and connecting with the Azores through a unique and laid back dining experience.

We had originally planned to go for dinner, but unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked, so the owner kindly offered us a table at lunchtime instead. We certainly did not regret it! Each wine was presented with great care and affection, and the dishes themselves were outstanding – both in quality and in the way they were composed and served in sequence. This little restaurant ranks among the very best we dined at during our journey through the Azores!

We had a wonderful experience at Catinho das Provas. The food was diverse, and beautifully presented. The wine tasting we had was delicious. It was great to have a sample of so many different wines made in the Azores

Fish of the day and leitão is really nice. You need to go earlier probably at 19:00, if not the restaurant goes full very soon. Grill fishes, shrimp, octopus… all are delicious. Also wines are nice too. Recommend!

Food here hit our expectations, and we would happily return. Lot's of positives and only a couple irritations. A multitude of options for all folks ( maybe less so if you're vegetarian or vegan), with excellent prices. My partner ordered the bone marrow app, and was like a kid in a candy store. Not my vibe personally, but he spoke about it for the next 24 hours. As a main, he ordered a pork dish (not entirely sure which one), but once again was a happy camper. I took one of the recommended dishes which was a rump cut stew and it was phen.om.en.al. Excellent flavours, tender meat that melted in your mouth. Abundant. It was so filling and absolutely worth the wait (took a solid 45 minutes after the bone marrow). Considering how many tables and people there are, it felt surprisingly cozy and intimate. Perhaps because my partner and I were seated at the very back near the kitchen. The service was medicore. We had a reservation and still waited in line for ten minutes before anyone even said hello. Waiters appear to be responsible for all tables, so we were engaging with different people often. Reservations are kind of non-negotiable, just like everywhere in small, but touristy areas. If you don't have one, you will likely struggle to get a table, especially at a joint as popular as this one. All in all, would happily return.

We went here several times during high-season, pro tip to avoid wait time without reservation and to have the biggest fresh fish selection is coming here for lunch at 12:00. Fish bbq is done on wood and delicious. Many people order and enjoy meat here, but the Azores fishes/seafood are a must: escolar, írio, enchereu. All except salmon are locally caught. Faial cheese Morro is also not to missed!

Enjoyed a lovely dinner at this local and authentic restaurant. We arrived shortly before 7pm and it was quite full, however we got a table inside despite not having a reservation (you maybe better do). Service was attentive with plenty of staff serving the guests. Food was good with rather big portions. Would recommend and return.

Great lunch/diner option with lots of BBQ/grill meat/fish/seafood dishes. Outdoor garden is great for summer vibe. We had the following meals for lunch on 13/08/2025: 1. Cabbage salad. It is not fresh cabbage but brined in vinegar with carrot strips. It is nice but make sure you love vinegar infused salad. Rating 7 out of 10. 2. Kelp (seaweed) salad. They give you about 75g of kelp and 75g of wakame. All quite heavily dressed in rice vinegar. Normally you don't this type of heavily dressed with rice vinegar salad in sushi restaurants. Worth getting back We had dinner on 14/08/2025 and paid 186 Euro for the following: 1. Fish soup with rice. It was good. Rating 7 out of 10. 2. Tuna sashimi. Tuna was local and not best graded but fresh. Rating 6 out of 10. 3. Cabbage salad pickled. Rating 7 out of 10. 4. Stone crab priced 34 Euro per kilo. Crab was dressed but you had to extract white meat from claws with utensils. Rating 8 of out 10. 5. Blackspotted sea bream locally caught at 25 Euro per portion was perfectly BBQued on the grill. Rating 8 out of 10. 6. Prawns on the grill were nicely seasoned and chargrilled. Rating 8 out of 10. 7. Irio fish (amberjack) was perfectly BBQued, seasoned and flavoured. No complaints with rating 9 out of 10. 8. Simple veggies salad was fresh and with fresh cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, iceberg lettuce and onions. Rating 8 out of 10.

What can I say ? It was D-licious. Of course, for a first visit (will not be the last since I am here for 5 days the LEITAO is teasing me !) I concentrated on seafood: tuna sashimi so fresh and yummy and the grilled Bocca Negra (Helicolenus Dactylopterus) was awsome (unless it is intentional avoid using the BBQ aimed for meat:-)) . I will no doubt come again soon. The price is no issue for a meal of this quality.

A place is considered one of the best and often visited by residents in Horta. Soo… if this is the best place then I feel sorry for the residents. I ordered half portion of lapas - she agreed for that. Then of course I needed to pay for the whole portion as I heard during the payment that they do not serve half portions. Atmosphere makes people: Woman - waitress no even one small smile - serving food with that attitude - I was sorry for me. Lapas were smelly. I ordered also some fish in panko - to be honest i did not even taste the fish. Potatoes are fresh and tasty and coke. Sorry for that but would never go there again. I wouldn't even send an enemy there. Food was served for locals first - even if they came afterwards.

The best squid i ever had. It takes some time to get the food but i arrive 10 minutes after they open and the restaurant was full. Reservation recommend.

Warm welcome on arrival. Food delicious and generous portions. Husband said the size and taste of the squid was best he has ever had, anywhere in the world, and we have travelled a lot. I enjoyed my chicken breast dinner too. Prices very good. 2 main courses, bread, 4 beers and 3 glasses of port for 38 euros. But above all else, what was best about this place is how friendly and welcoming the service was, we reserved a table for the next day already. Leave the touristic bars and restaurants in the marina behind and have a lovely authentic Azorean meal and hospitality instead - this has made our stay in Horta!

If there was a way to have a life time supply of their burgers, I would be the first in line. No joke, they were without a doubt, the most delicious, perfectly cooked, juicy, flavourful burgers I have every had in my life. And, I am actually slightly mad about it, because they have ruined every other burgers chance : since eating here, I now know what a good burger is. Came here twice with my partner in 2 days, and we were almost rolling on the floor with how masterful they were. Works of art. The chicken burger, pork burger and the beef burger were to die for. If you don't go here, you will regret it.

Holy moly, what a treat for the taste buds! The service was fantastic, and they took the time to explain the concept behind the dishes and make recommendations. You can tell straight away that everything is prepared from scratch, which you can really taste! We shared the pork and beef burgers, and every bite was worth it. Ah! Boca Santa is a unique place in Faial. The street food concept here is quite different. The food is amazing, especially the burgers and fries. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.

Located in an indoor market for tourism is this gem, though we hear that they are moving to a store front near by. This is a woman owned lunch spot. We got the burger and fries. It was sooo yummy. We didn’t have cash on us, so after we ordered they told us where the atm was and didn’t fret that we didn’t pay right away. This is a great location to start your tour of the city

I came for the vegetarian burger but was disappointed to find out that it was not available that day. Instead, I was recommended the salad, which was described as “really tasty and filling,” with the option to add a fried egg. That was not really what I had in mind for my dinner, but the owner’s convincing manner eventually made me decide to order the salad. I wanted to add some fries, but I was politely discouraged from doing so, as I was told the portion was very large. In reality, the salad was no more than average, not served with bread, and definitely not filling – especially if you came craving a burger. The fries I saw at other tables looked like a perfectly standard portion, not oversized at all. It also felt like the description of the salad was something the owner had repeated many times before. Since I was one of the first guests and the explanation already sounded very “rehearsed,” and because I later saw other vegetarian guests being turned away with exactly the same wording, I had the impression that the vegetarian burger is often not available. Nevertheless, the service was good, and it was clear that the owner put in a lot of effort, was attentive, and genuinely tried to make everyone happy. Still, it would be worth considering a proper alternative for when the vegetarian burger is not available.

Best place to eat on Faial hands down. The bread is freshly baked by the owners, and all ingredients are top quality. Service is also top quality as the owner talks to every customer and asks if everything is good. The burgers are one of the best in Portugal. We came back two times.

Definitely call to make a reservation, even in the off season (I showed up when they opened for dinner on a Friday night and they accommodated me at the one remaining table, but it’s clear that this is not a walk in place). Small parking lot if you don’t want to park on the road. Only one waitress and she did an excellent job serving all the tables. Ordered the special grilled scallops as a starter, best dish I’ve had in the Azores by far. Huge portions (even the half portion of the tuna with shrimp sauce is huge).

After touring the island, this was the perfect stop for lunch. I would recommend a booking as there are limited tables. The food was delicious and very generous portions. Although we don't speak Portugese we were able to easily order as the menu is also in English. The view across the Atlantic is spectacular. Expect to only have one person servicing the tables. If you are lucky enough to be in Faial and come here take Grilled Lulas (grilled squid with olive oil and garlic). They are simply awesome! the portions are very huge - beware!)))) The service is 5 stars and the place is so homey. And the view is spectacular. Definitely place to return and recommend to friends.

Amazing experience, food, and atmosphere! Hans prepares a delicious 4 course surprise vegan meal that is very healthy with no processed or packaged ingredients. What a joy to sit on the terrace at O Esconderijo and have lunch. Highly recommend a visit and would advise reservations as the place is small. But the 3-course menus cannot be missed. I had gazpacho followed by roast fish in a gorgeous beurre blanc sauce. Dishes were simple but delicious and I can't wait to go back.

What a lovely discovery on the beautiful island of Faial! Gem of a restaurant. The owners are extremely kind and fantastic cooks. The fish was the best I ate in the whole holiday, and they also have great vegetarian options, which is special on the Azores. Everyone pays 25 euros for the entire 3 courses, regardless of what you get. With the amount of detail, love and care that went into the food, they could have asked double the price and it would have been absolutely worth it. Big recommendation. We recommend reserving a table though, as it was quite busy. Otherwise you might have to wait a bit. :) Worth to be noted: a restaurant owned by two guys, and free menstrual products available in the toilet. Setting a great example. Bonus points👏👏

Possibly the busiest pizza place in the town. Good pizzas, choose your own toppings. Take away and eat in the square across the road looking at the boats or eat in. Important: they don’t accept foreign credit or debit cards. Portuguese cards only, or cash for the rest!! We ordered to eat in and were told it was a long wait. He had no problems reserving a table for us for when the pizza was ready. Went out and came back 20 mins later.

Nice place. We did take away so can't comment much on the atmosphere but it seemed very lively and inviting. The pizza was great in terms of taste. The crust was a bit on the heavy side but that's personal preference. I prefer a very thin crust. Friendly and quick service. Price setting was fair. I would definitely order again.

Mediocre pizza. Too doughy, no taste apart from weird taste of “salami”. Expect at least 40 minutes of waiting. Chaotic… You dont know where to stand if you want to order, pay, pickup. Locals can pay by card, tourists can’t. Two medium pizzas, each for 10€ and we were paying 25€. 2,5€ for one pizza box?! Also expect to be bloated afterwards… Can’t recommend but if you have no choice what can you do?

Bad pizza. Size is okay, but the sauce has no taste and it’s way too doughy. We ordered pepperoni and the sausage had a weird taste. Edit: it was chorizo. You can’t put choziro on pizza and call it pepperoni.

Over 100 types of tea, served in a Japanese cast iron kettle with beautiful hand painted teaware from São Miguel. Milk and sugar also offered, as appropriate. There's a sign out front that says Casa, but you have to go around the corner to find their garden entrance. Food menu includes many vegetarian options and daily specials. I really loved it. This is probably my favorite place in Horta.

We had an amazing meal in Casa de Chá! The relaxed atmosphere in the garden area was good. We opted for the spinach lasagne (vegetarian) and the teriyaki tofu (vegan), both were very delicious. For dessert, we had lemon and apple pie, both vegan and delicious as well.

We have loved this place! We had a spinach lassagna and chili with rice and it was delicious! They have a supernice garden/terrace and a little menu with freshly cooked dishes that change daily (a lot of them vegetarian). It’s nice because they have an open kitchen and it feels like being at home you can ask the food directly to the chef while he is cooking the plates of the day.

I do NOT recommend this place. Learn how to make potential customers happy....not turn them away multiple times pissed off. The service was excellent! We are a group of vegetarians. The chef, Patricia, was very accommodating and suggested a custom dish for us. It was absolutely delicious. The carrot cake that we had for dessert was moist and flavorful. The setting by the harbor added to the ambiance. We highly recommend Kabem Todos when in Horta.

We came here after a scooter tour around the island and were very happy with our choice. It's nicely located, the food was very tasty and the waiters extremely friendly. That was especially good since we didn't understand a lot from the Portugese menu so we relied on their suggestions for our choices of food. I had the dish of the day (tuna) enjoyed every bit of it.

Very cosy time in this family restaurant. The waiter (the son of the owners as I discovered) was really nice; he recommended me a very tasty fish plate. They maintained high professional standards throughout our visit. We had the beef steak and that was a great choice. Well prepared and flavored, with generous amount of various types of sides. Special mention goes to the homemade sauce. The desserts (also homemade) were delicious and the coffee was also great. Overall, the food was really tasty and an excellent value for money. Our impressions of this restaurant were positive and we enjoyed our time here.

We visited Café International in Horta as a large family of seven and had a wonderful dining experience. The Azorean specialties were delicious, fresh, and authentic. The owner himself gave us excellent recommendations that perfectly matched our taste. We felt completely welcome and comfortable throughout the evening and can highly recommend Café International to anyone visiting Horta!

This is an old traditional location. The clams as starter, the international steak and the steak with prawns were excellent. In fact, of all 5 restaurants we tried so far for dinner, this was the best.

We waited 1:30h... On a second time, we were quite traped at dinner... almost 10 euros in sides not ordered... check the bill you might be charged for a salad you thought came with the dish, or some French fries.. all charged as extras without mention from the staff while ordering.

The sushi was bland, really bland. First time in my life that I don't finish the sushi I ordered. The fish was sinewy and some peaces were rubbery. None of them tasted good. Simply mediocre fish with very unimaginative combinations. Still a 3 due to the low price and good service.

Hearty portions, really nice service! The host lady was really sweet and attentive to our varied desires and alterations. Prices are decent, service was first class, location is really good! Try Iscas- they were amazing! We got treated to some local home made spirits- very unusual tastes! All in all left well fed and happy!

Simple restaurant with a small terrace. The food was very tasty and inexpensive. We had dinner there and paid 23.50 euros for 2 people including drinks. If the terrace were a little nicer and credit cards were accepted, it would be five stars for me, so only four. All in all, without a doubt recommendable. June 2023

Great restaurant. The sausage and brazed goat meat were excellent. The sausage was well spiced in the local style. The brazed goat meat was fall-off-the-bone tender. With a very good sauce that compliments it well.(pictured is for 2 people)

Excellent steak! Incredibly tender and surprisingly good value for money for the portion. Octopus was also extremely tasty and soft, very well cooked. Don't be fooled by the decor, it is very quaint and rural, but the food is wonderful.

Sorry to say so but do not recommend at all. Probably our worst experience ever in a restaurant. Fish / meat were over cooked, completely dry with no taste. The French fries were mostly raw. We finished most of our plates so as not to waste anything. But it was no good time. Do not accept credit card.

Had a steak I could not eat, mest with a lot of fibers, hard and dry. The eag on top was not like the portuguese style - it was flat hard fried and solid. Felt like a tourist trap, price is not worth it.

Don’t let the streetentrance deceive you! We, my girlfriend and I, had a lovely diner here. The staff was so friendly and kind. Took the time to chat a little bit without it being annoying. The food was there quick and with a very sufficient quantity. Also the price/qualityratio was very spot on. The food is tasty. The portions are quite big and at good prices (for example the hot and sour soup was only 1.85 and very generous quantity). They also offer fixed menus for 7 euros, but it's possible to choose separate items from the menu - beef, chicken, fish dishes and 2 vegetarian options. Of course there's also a variety of rice and noodle dishes. The service is quick and you don't have to wait long

Came here for lunch and had their buffet- this place is decent and reasonably priced, their deep fried mackerel was my favourite. They had a beef dish the day i was there and jt was pretty tough.. they also had an azorean version of ?Kung pao chicken (frango a xadrez) and while the chicken was dry, the sauce was pretty good and made up for it. Good option for salad (lettuce/tomato/chickpeas/beets). I liked their latte a lot and it was a good end to lunch.

Lovely food and lovely service tarnished by the fact that they only accept Portuguese bank cards or cash as payment. If your bank card is issued anywhere else than Portugal you will not be able to pay, so beware of that as it can lead to a very awkward situation as there aren't any ATM's nearby.

Don't let the nondescript exterior fool you. Inside is a modern air conditioned decor. The buffet was varied and well presented. We lingered and were not rushed. Very pleasant.

Tried going to this place three times, based on the hours posted on the door it's supposed to be open until 830pm. We went at 740 each time only to find they closed early. Middle of June on a Friday to Sunday evening, busy tourist season. I'm lost for words as to how this makes any sense..... We were really looking forward to trying it since the review seem really good. Disappointed doesn't begin to describe, we came back from pico island on an earlier ferry today so we could try it on our last day and it's closed 90 minutes early again.

Delicious pizza - highly recommend. We were tempted to buy two just because they looked so tasty and when we tried we were not disappoInted. Very punctual as well as we phoned and ordered and as soon as we arrived it was coming out from the oven.

We arrived as a couple without a reservation. We were informed that the restaurant was full, but if we waited fifteen minutes, a place would become available. We decided to wait. More people arrived, some stayed to wait and some gave up and left. When we sat down to eat, I understood why the place was full and there was a waiting list outside. The food was excellent! The service was courteous and the atmosphere was lovely! The place recommended goat stew, which is the specialty of the place. Despite this, we chose to order sea bream, so we got a taste of the dish at no extra charge. I'm so glad I didn't give up and waited.

One of the best places I had Chanfana (special old goat Portuguese dish) . We didn’t make a reservation and arrived close to the kitchen end service because of traveling and even though the staff was amazingly friendly and helpful, we couldn’t be more happy with the service, the amazing food , also the music is perfect ! Please ask for the fresh vinho verde tinto and you can drink it the old fashioned way with a special wine jug. See pictures to check it out. For dessert we asked for coffee mousse and lime mousse that were fantastic 😍 will definitely recommend and be back !

Only happened that there was a big group with children, so it turned oit to be a noisy dinner. This being so only tells that is suotable for kids as well. Very nice restaurant. We came 8 people. Ordered Veal rib that was very good And goat stew that was great. The chef has a problem getting the rib in the right way so medium became well done but other then that the food was very good. Nice deserts. The price was arround 15€ per person (fair price) I recommend the goat stew. Enjoy...

Best meal we had in ilha do Faial. The alheira a bras is one of the best I ever had. The octopus was tender and, delicious. My parter was feeling sick otherwise he would have finished his dish. Generous portions and good value for money. Must try when in Faial.

Our little group of friends visits this wonderful bar and restaurant every Sunday without fail and we love it. The service is great, the food great and the atmosphere is always lively and local. Great way to mingle with the locals and catch up with friends over a cup of coffee. They have buffet lunches but we love the burgers. Big portions. Staff are super friendly and helpful.

The BBQ chicken pizza is disgusting. They put some gross tomato sauce and also bbq sauce. The cheese is also gross. I told the waitress we wanted to order a different pizza because it was gross ( I didn't ask for anything free) and she went off on me about how I should have read the menu better. The view is incredible but the pizza is gross. Don't go here! Update: everyone should read the owner's response on my review. 🤣 You can tell from his response that he doesn't take feedback well.

Nice pan pizza with fresh ingredients. Small pizza is a good portion for one, big pizza only for big hungers. We had 3 large for four people and went home with a doggie bag.

Being of Italian heritage and growing up eating good Italian food, this reminded me of those good old days. The chicken wings was OK. Pizza was extremely dry and we saw the personel whiping off the pizza with a cloth (that they use to clean the kitchen table with). The waiter was really stressed, even though there was not that many guests there. We never got the drinks we ordered and they tried to charge us for it anyways. Good view, cheap drinks , but wouldn't go there again.

Don’t pay attention to the other Google reviews. There is no rooftop dining. Bliss does serve a great dining experience. Good food, young, but friendly attentive service, and a comfortable environment. Our dinner was excellent, and Bliss is a tent, However inside the tent is a nice bar and comfortable tables. My wife and I thought it was one of the best meals we had in the Azores

We had an unforgettable evening here, starting with friendly, attentive service from the wait staff—everyone was welcoming and genuinely seemed to care that we were enjoying our time. The tuna steak was the star of the meal: incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. You can really tell they take pride in their ingredients and preparation. Pair that with one of their fun cocktails on the menu and you’re in for a treat. We also shared a couple of desserts, and they were top-notch—light, creative, and beautifully presented. We where at ‘Praya Restaurante’ first, a neighbouring restaurant, but decided to go due to bad service. Bliss offered us a welcoming service and a great atmosphere. The food was good. Nice experience, best in town.

Rubbish! They got my order wrong. It was not due to a language barrier given that I pointed at what I wanted in the menu. The meat was not hot. I asked for tap water which I was then charged 4 Euros for. Overall my worst meal in the Azores and one of the most expensive. Way Overrated

Lovely view a few steps from some great natural swimming. Surprisingly uncrowded on a Friday evening. Grilled Rockfish plate was a little bland with potatoes over-boiled. Because service was a little slow we did not try desert. On the plus side, fair pricing and a tidy decor.

Located at the Horta's farmers market, this bistro/winery serves a variety of tasty dishes that offer you the opportunity to savour many complex flavors of the Azores, with a touch of fusion cuisine. Both the beef and vegetarian options we tried were well cooked and delicious. The portions were generous and overall the food was a great value for money. In addition, the wine pairing was excellent and so was the coffee. We also liked the service. The staff was friendly, attentive and swift. Definitely try this place out when not sure where to eat next.

Stopped by as they had craft beer to drink (hard to find in Horta). Stayed for dinner. Service was great. Food was great. Prices inexpensive by North American standards. I've posted some pictures of the incredible food. We even got two sandwiches to take with us tomorrow as we head over and hike on Pico.

Super nice restaurant with a very walm welcome. Price/Value is one if the best seen in Horta. We arrived 7 guests, very late but the manager and teams welcomed us very warmly. Fresh buffet with veggies and fruit and soup. Various grilled meat (beef, pork, chicken, bacon...) served directly at the table. We are all good eaters but can't finish everything. We'll Come Black

Very nice owners (a group of young friends) who love Gin (btw there are three different Azorean Gins to be tasted!) and good local fresh food. Very fresh fish which you can have a look at inside the restaurant. Beautiful interior design and a small patio on the first level above the kitchen. Good food (fish, seafood, meat) and a vegetarian option which is nothing special though. Smaller portions than standard Portuguese portions.

Great fish restaurant serving fish they've caught by their own fishermen: the days catch was walked in late one evening while we were dining! I had the Trigger Fish fillet, breaded and fried with some veg and a side salad. Very tasty! Everyone else in my group enjoyed their meal also. We all shared starters: a great way to get a little of everything on offer. Wines and beers were good, with lots of local Azorean offerings too. Btw, they also have meat dishes, if preferred. The pricing was very good, with starters from €2 (no, that's not a typo) to about €8, and main courses are all less than €20 (from memory). Recommended.

The food here is incomparable. The taste of fine Azorean dining with a laid back atmosphere and easy on the wallet! The owners and staff are friendly and helpful. The menu is bilingual which is helpful for those like me who are still learning Portuguese. The hours are great, being open late every day. Absolutely fantastic. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Faial. We will be back on our next trip!

We were looking for a Dinner in Vacation. We didn't know anything besides Horta City. So we found Bijou💍. The two Ladys and the Cat 🐱 were very kind and humorous, we had a good laugh. Ok now the Food. We took a half Pizza Mare and a half of the House Pizza. They were delicious! Especially the local cheese! We also ordered a Garlic Bread. Delicious too! This and two Bottles of Water for 17.50€. For us (Swiss) more than a fair Price. Obrigada!!

Went with my family. Very casual place which serves the best pizza we have ever had in our life! The Mamma Mia was absolutely delicious! The picture is of the Forta and the crust was absolutely sublime.

Local type of pizza, ok but nothing special. Prices somewhat high for a take away pizza joint. Service and approach to customers can definitelly be improved. Same goes for the offer of alcoholic drinks - beers specifically (only 1 type in single size). We bought drinks at a different place and waited for our pizzas that were served in a take away carton boxes (only option). The entire place has a take away look (self service, drinks given without a glass, no plates). For that, we didn't expect it was not allowed to take drinks from outside and received a rude and brisk comment from the staff. It was quite emberassing considering there were other people around us. The lady did not even wait to hear our explanation, just turned and left...

Continente in Horta presents itself as a grand emporium, yet the shelves whisper of absence rather than abundance. Staples one would expect on the mainland — eggs, tomatoes, peppers — were nowhere to be found, leaving us unable to provision our yacht as planned. We came in search of the ordinary, and even that proved elusive.

Big supermarket with wide selection of products. Yes, there might be some busy times and you might need to wait extra 10 min. To the ones with the one star reviews - chill. Yes, you might see some old vegetables or a bug. But it’s island life! It’s a jungle around. Yes, your tomatoes in USA look better than the ones on the island, but there are organic and, sorry to brake it, but this is how healthy vegetables should look like ;)

Such a charming little restaurant that made me feel right at home. There are only a few dishes to choose from every day, but they were prepared with so much love that I would have liked to eat more. What's more, the owner is simply wonderful and makes you feel right at home.

Amazing food in a very local restobar. The woman cooks and serves all in one and the food was stunning! I had the beef stew that was in the oven for 5 hours and was the best i‘ve ever had! We asked for a vegetarian option and she cooked a veggie curry with couscous. As a starter we got bread with a delicious tuna paste for free! The rosé was also very good. Would definitely come again! We thoroughly enjoyed and devoured our pizzas and calzone (the ricotta cheese inside was especially phenomenal). It was worth waiting in the rain--we enjoyed them immediately at the park and really looking forward to returning.

I was expecting a good pizza just like the ones i see in the reviews online, but mine was flat, crusty, dry, and taste was very average. The gentleman who operates the place is nice and efficient though.

Miri and Dino are an amazing Italian (Tuscan 🤩) couple that brought their love, enthusiasm and passion to Faial, Horta! Pizza here is really really good! If you are looking both for great food and for a cuddle for your soul, you must stop here! My favourite pizza in Azores ❤️ A must try experience for anyone when in Horta!

The food and owners at this place are top notch. Been here several different times on a couple different trips and the food quality is always excellent. My wife and I are desperate to get back and enjoy whatever Dino & Miri are serving up.
