Nature & Parks
Parks
Haigh Woodland Park is a vast recreational area offering wooded hiking trails, a rope course, miniature railway, and golfing. It's an ideal stop for families visiting Wigan or exploring nearby attractions like the Three Sisters Racing Circuit and the Old Courts. After a refreshing walk in Haigh Woodland Park, visitors can enjoy traditional Sunday roasts at nearby pubs and restaurants.
Great park, lots of paths to walk with varied scenery leads to canal which you can walk and loop back round to the main park. Saw horse riders, cyclists, runners. The free park itself is well built with lots of challenges for the kids. Behind it was a small forest where the kids where making lean to shelters with the downed trees and branches. There is a paid high rope section however it's 8+ Also on site whilst visiting was a small amusement park. There is a square of various shops from chocolate to a pizzeria, deli, cafe and farm shop. The delivery we found to be great value and not too expensive. There are also ice cream vans dotted around if you are after a sweet treat. Parking is paid but reasonable at 3.50 for the day. Altogether it was a nice day out and would return.

Was disappointed to find the miniature train was all blocked off for maintenance, had all year but choose the first week of the summer holidays to do it, so, thought we'd go and look at the hall...nope, not possible as that was enveloped in a huge white screen, ok, so we went to the cafe and was charged £10 for a baked potato!! Parking is not free and you are not allowed to use a blue badge... had a little play area for kids and mini golf and Go Ape, " ornamental " pond was more like black slime and full of lily pads, totally neglected, lots of space for kids but lots of dogs off lead, so be careful, take a picnic too to save yourself some money
Donna P — Google review
I've been coming to this park for several years now and honestly, I feel like it is going a bit downhill. We arrived today and the two main play frames were sectioned off for repair. The funfair had stopped even though all the kids aren't back in school until at least Thursday. The go ape climbing was shut. The little train track is NEVER running when we go. It looks like it's undergoing maintenance but never seen anyone working on it. The duck pond has blue algae in it and doesn't seem like it is being treated. The main gardens with the lovely trees have been shut now for about 2 years. No idea why! The toilets are really smelly and the soap box hasn't been fixed in at least 12 months and you could really do with putting some toilets down near the smaller wooden park as I've been caught out twice there now with my toddler who needed a number 2! Luckily had bags on me for her to do it in! On a positive note, the cafes / shops are great. There's some woodland you can walk through which is good to explore. There's a range of play equipment suitable for all ages and 2 places you can play mini golf. Plenty of sit down spaces and picnic tables. Parking is cheap and you can spend hours there on a good day. The new flower garden is really lovely. There's a great little bird watching area and the shop on the way in is selling wild bird food for you to put on the tables. Wigan council need to do a lot better! This is a well used park and would be so much better with access to all areas!

We had a lovely day here. The park caters for all ages. There are 2 crazy golf's, my nearly 4 yr old grandson loved his first time playing this. The staff in the crazy golf were really friendly guy's and at only £1 per person, it's well worth visiting. We went to the cafe for lunch and the staff there are also very helpful and friendly. Only 2 highchairs available that we could see but we managed to beg one off a lady who's child had finished eating and also passed ours on after we finished with it. We also visited the small funfair. Tokens only and each token cost £2.50. Only thing I don't agree with is that the parent on the rides with small children have to pay a token too. We will definitely be going back there.

Great place for a walk, plenty to do come along and try out the Low and High Ropes course. A few places to get food and drinks.. a couple of ice cream vans and a shop. Kids park and fairground rides at weekends and school holidays. Parkrun every Saturday good route on trails which can be muddy at times it’s down hill a loop then back up the hill.

My two children, 11 and 8, and I, had a brilliant time here yesterday. It was a little disappointing to find there's quite extensive renovation works going on at both the hall and along the miniature railway, and this is the reason for the 4☆ review - not that we minded the work at all, it's clear this is in the best interest of the hall and the miniature railway, but that there's no mention on the website or Facebook page (which I checked prior to our visit) and also that we didn't know the path passing the swan pond to complete the 1 mile circuit was closed as there was no signage until we got there. It didn't make our day any less enjoyable, as we followed the path around past the victorian kennels ruins (a huge hit), then followed the canal back to the car park, but those paths weren't suitable for pushchairs or scooters so families with younger children would've had to turn back. Our 1 mile walk turned in to a lovely 3 mile trail, which we finished off with a picnic, a few fairground rides (all very quiet, I expect due to the rides costing £2.50 each), and an ice cream from the van (£10 for 3). We did head over to the playground, but we found the equipment a bit too busy for us so we went back to find their favourite tree and had a bit of a climb before we left. £3.50 for the car park all day is a bargain when compared to other similar locations, particularly as there is so much going on here for children. We spent 4.5 hours here in total, but could easily have stayed all day, and we look forward to returning when the miniature railway re-opens as the kids would've loved this. It would just be nice to know before you travel what closures are in place, so you can plan your day accordingly.

Haigh Hall and the surrounding plantations, AKA Haigh Woodland Park are a great place for a bit of R&R. The main path through the plantations is wide and and is surfaced with tarmac making it accessible for all. It's both dog and cycle friendly with several entrances that include access from Swinley, Whelley and Haigh. As of March 2025 the main hall, a listed stately home, is currently undergoing restoration however there are many other facilities in the immediate vicinity. These include a sprawling playground for the kids, high rope adventure, mini golf, a great little bar and numerous cafes and shops. There is also a large carpark close to the facilities for those who wish to arrive by car.

Very nice , popular country park , with plenty to see and do . I went for the adventure golf , and walk around the shops , which were all close together . The shops are quite small , with plenty of eating options . They have several golfing options . Standard golf course , footgolf ( you kick the ball into a hole ) , adventure golf ,and a smaller/cheaper crazy golf course . Did the adventure golf which was very popular and reasonably priced . The theming was old school charm , and even had a moving viking ship . The holes were well presented if a little worn . The playing surface was super smooth and fast , probably because it is well trodden . This made putting out tricky , as a missed putt could travel a few feet past . Also on occasion , the ball would roll out of bounds . There are two water holes , which can slow things down , if you go in the water , there are scoops available to fish the ball out . I was alright but the groups in front of me had problems . Good course , enjoyed it , might do it again sometime . There is lots of parking , which is reasonably priced , and how no issues with the pay machines . The park is about 15 minutes off the motorway and makes for a fun stop .

Go-karting venue
Sights & Landmarks
Located in Wigan, the Three Sisters Race Circuit is a top outdoor race circuit in the Northwest. It offers go-karting for both adults and children over eight on its 1.5km track, providing a safe and enjoyable experience. Visitors can choose from a variety of cars to drive, including Porsche, Nissan GT6, Ford Mustang, Lotus Cortina, Dodge Challenger, Aston Martin, and even police cars.
Drift league GB did not disappoint! And neither did three sisters! What a great venue, staff was bang on, the place is tidy and well looked after! The atmosphere was great! Walking around the pits talking to the drivers and teams was great! The Facilities are good! The Portaloos were the cleanest ones I've ever been in. The cafe was ok & so was the bar - there could be a better selection of drinks i guess but other than that what a great family day out! Well be back for sure!

Excellent experience from start to finish. The only let down was the prices for photo packages as always I believe if they were more reasonable people would buy them but 54 pounds for 2 videos and photos they had a buy one photo for 19.99 but that's not encouraging seemed extreme if all of those customers brought them there photographers daily rate was more than a lawyer 😉 😀 but it didn't effect our day whatsoever son had the best time and we will 100% be back

Came here for first time yesterday as was looking for something to do a little different . Came across a drifting day event so went over ...entry was £5 each and was a good day . Facilities are toilets bar and cafe ...food all looked good and reasonbly priced...would come again for sure . Only advice is bring your own camp chair or blanket ...people brought there own food and drink aswell if you are on a budget

Took my son to three sisters race circuit, you have to pay £2 parking on your way in, there is a bar for drinks and food, my son had 6 laps in the bat mobile but for some reason only had 3, so I went and spoke to the lovely lady who signed us in and she sorted and he got to do 3 laps in a subaru which he absolutely loved driving. Was very busy there. You get to get pictures and videos of your driving, not cheap but worth it, to keep as memories. Highly recommend.
Katrina V — Google review
Cracking track for the little 125s and well looked after . Nice little bar, pits n paddock area was a little cramped due to so many competitors for our event , too many none race vehicles wanting to park next to friends who were racing . We were hemmed in on all sides , could only just get the bike through to the track, there is actually plenty of parking for none race vehicles, it just needed some sort of control who parked where. Apart from that one niggle it was spot on .

Felt a bit ripped off here, paid for 2 experiences for my daughter, and my 10 year old grandson. Done them before, but always had an option to buy the colision waiver, not here! You HAVE to buy it, or provide a credit card with a £5k limit on it. So adding to the cost of the 2 vouchers was a further £70+, then a further £10 for training. So bargain experiences, became an expensive one. They both enjoyed the well organised day and I'm glad I took my camera, to avoid the high cost of a momento. (Make sure you give the lanyards and memory card back, or there's a further £80 charge)

I still love this place the Tuesday bike track evening are brilliant. Just turn up hoof round and smile. There are always a couple of good photographers around to make you look cool.

My son had the BEST time in n the police interceptor car. I'm really glad we got there earlier, because we were only number 3 in the queue, any later and we would have been there for much longer. It was chucking it down with rain and there is limited shelter to view the person driving, so I stood in the rain. We booked using a Virgin Experiences voucher, but on the day ended up spending at extra £71!! Make sure you save up before the day in expectation of this. Overall, he had a great time, but for 3 laps of a track, over £100 including our travel and ending up really soggy, I don't think it's worth it.

Had a wonderful experience celebrating our daughter's 18 birthday party with extended family and friends at the Old Courts this weekend. Jo, Michelle and the team were all so obliging in helping us plan all the details in advance and make the event as special as we had hoped. Nothing was too much trouble. Guests kept commenting on how gorgeous the venue was and helpful and friendly the staff were. Especially enjoyed the additional quiet space of the judge's chambers and the lovely bar. I recently hosted my 30th birthday party at The Old Courts in Wigan and couldn’t be happier with the experience! The venue is spacious, full of character, and has a lovely quirky charm that all my guests adored. The booking process was simple and stress-free, and the pricing was very reasonable. A special shoutout to Jo and Michelle—both were absolutely amazing and made everything run smoothly. Highly recommend for any special occasion!

Held my 40th Birthday Party at the old courts last week. Everyone commented on how beautiful the venue was. It has real atmosphere. Michelle the host was super attentive and helped me sort out a bar tab for first drinks and a cocktail for the night. It was all very laid back and easy to deal with them - no drama. I was particularly pleased when they cut the cake into pieces for me - not a job I was looking forward to. The whole team were fab, friendly and helpful. It is so cheap to hire too! I’d definitely recommend.

The most wonderful wedding venue, which offers a tailored and personalised wedding. Strongly recommended. The best choice for the wedding venue. The brilliant staff involved on the day of the wedding, Kristie, Nicola and Emily and Nikola did an extraordinary job. Additionally, a special personal thank you to Nikola and Michelle for their ongoing support, management, patience and professional help with any issues before the ceremony. Thank you so much for making this day special and memorable.

Visited the old courts for an engagement party. Absolutely stunning building! Such a lovely venue. The staff, all of them were amazing. So friendly and welcoming and helpful, especially Michelle and the bouncer lady that was on the door and the lady that was cleaning up at the end, but I didn’t get their names. Service was efficient and the buffet area was great too. The lighting and the sound system was good. it has made me think that the next time I have a party that requires a function I will definitely book it myself! Great place , an asset to Wigan x

Beautiful. Such an amazing place with lakes, canals, woodlands and very peaceful. Ideal for families, cyclists, dog walkers, wheelchair and pram friendly footpaths.

Lots of beautiful paths to walk down but I could find any water. I will go again though. It was a nice change from my usual walks.

Nice walk between the flash and canal then over the bridge and walk back. Good walk for the dog. Lots of cyclists as it is a shared space but some cyclists seem to think they have more right and go two abreast so pass very close to walkers. Other cyclists were great and we both gave each other space. Flash stunk of either poop or just stagnant water and some suspicious foam was on the shore.

We had christmas dinner but they shut the kitchen despite me pre-booking the menu and telling that we will becoming after work at 8pm. Hence that was a bit disappointing but the food was wonderful. Extremely tasty starters and good experience overall.

From the moment we arrived at The Fat Olive, we were made to feel completely at home. The warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for what turned out to be a truly outstanding dining experience. The food was absolutely exceptional—every dish was full of flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. From starters to dessert, each course impressed us more than the last. You can tell the kitchen takes great pride in what they serve. What really stood out, though, was the impeccable service. Stuart and the entire team went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Stuart was especially attentive, friendly, and professional—he struck the perfect balance of being helpful without being overbearing. It’s rare to find such genuine hospitality, and it made our visit even more enjoyable. Whether you’re looking for a special night out or a relaxed meal with excellent food and service, The Fat Olive is a fantastic choice. We’ll definitely be returning soon!

From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for something special. This restaurant doesn’t just serve food—it crafts an experience. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between upscale and inviting, with warm lighting, tasteful decor, and a layout that feels both intimate and lively. The service was exceptional. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. Every recommendation—from appetizers to dessert—was spot on. Now, the food: absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The ingredients were clearly fresh, and the attention to detail in both taste and texture was impressive. The drinks menu was equally impressive, with a well-curated wine list and inventive cocktails that complemented the meal wonderfully. I tried the porn star martini and it was one of the best I’ve had in a long time—balanced, creative, and delicious. To finish, dessert was a revelation. The chocolate brownie was rich without being heavy, and the perfect end to a flawless evening. This restaurant is a gem—ideal for date nights, celebrations, or just treating yourself to a memorable meal. I’ll absolutely be returning, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I don't even know how I'm supposed to review this place, stopped in the Premier inn next door ridiculous amounts of times for work and never had a problem. Eaten in the restaurant in the past always just average for the price, but what do you expect from a brewers fayre, you pay for what you get. But, just but they have clearly changed the menu and decided to remove the chefs from the kitchen ( not proper chefs we know but hey ho) and replaced them by, I don't even know what but I wouldn't even call them microwave pushers because what I've just had I can't call food, I can't call it food because there is not actually food there. The so called wings didn't even have meat on. It was just bone coated in sauce. The pizza well photos say it all. You can actually buy better pizzas from Iceland for less than £2 and stick it in the microwave for 4 mins and this whole meal cost me just shy of £20. WOW JUST WOW

Can only give one star unfortunately, I would not recommend going here, had burger and chips , tiny burger like a child’s meal, burnt chips, asked for a bottle of tomato sauce she obliged by bring a empty bottle over and leaving it on the table. The table we sat on resembled a school desk from the 1990s, It used to be really nice here going back 20 years, sadly standards have fallen through the floor. Was going to have dessert but after the lunch we just had, thought it was better to pass and move on. Crusty food particles on the table too, not pleasant.

Really bad never again Member of staff shouting a one of the kids who was with us to sit down but let another kids run around plates left on table nearly 2 hours after eating and it looks like they have decorated for Halloween there are spiders webs everywhere collecting dust photo frames collecting dust and the bin outside was full.
Ryan C — Google review
Staff very helpful and friendly but they need training on current offers, pricing etc for meal deals so that they are consistent. Meal deal options should be to the max value allowed, regardless of internal policies, otherwise the companies paying are not getting full value for money as intended for their employees. Portions are generous, but cuisine could do with more flavour. The fish pie was the best of the pick. The 3 stars are for the staff and their welcoming attitude and willingness to help.
Spook N — Google review
Food and staff great. However!!!!!! The place is filthy and the dust on the lights and the wood between tables where lamps and decoration looks like it has been there years its so thick. Prior to ordering food my sister put her jacket down on the chair and when she moved it it was full of curry sauce! I did send a message but had no response. Such a shame because the food was good and hot.

Absolute ball! Michelle R was amazing and so helpful. She spent the night making sure everything was going smoothly and blew our really difficult balloons up with no problem! I honestly can’t rate this place enough it was an amazing experience. Thank you again Michelle R and all the staff that also helped.

We had an amazing wedding day thanks to Michelle, Jo and the team at The Old Courts. Michelle made the build up to our wedding more manageable and less stressful by going above and beyond. Thank you to Dani from Rock and Soul events for making the venue look magical and thank you to the amazing Zha Olu for singing and getting the vibe going. We would definitely recommend The Old Courts to anyone looking for a venue for their wedding!

Pub
Nestled just a stone's throw from Wigan Northwest Station, The Raven is a charming pub that beautifully marries old-world charm with modern touches. Known for its hearty and delicious offerings, the minced beef and onion pie stands out as a personal favorite among patrons. The beer selection is impressive, with knowledgeable staff ready to recommend brews tailored to your taste.
Recently been taken over by new owners. Been refurbished but still has all the original features. Bar service was good friendly new management.

A lovely proper pub a couple of hundred yards from Wigan Northwest Station. Old fashion in the best meaning of the word. Good range of proper beers and really cheap prices. Bar staff lovely and most welcoming. Will not be my last visit.

Difficult to get served as the staff are busy chatting amongst themselves or have their heads buried in their smart phones, otherwise it could be a good venue. Didn't try the food so no comment on that

Really really disappointed. Went back here Sunday after begging my husband to go as I was craving a pie only to find it has changed owners and gone downhill - really boring typical range of ciders - gone are the lovely Aspall and Black Dragon on deaught; had to eat in the boring dining room not the bar like we used to; bar staff shouted "mushy or garden peas" from where she was at the till didn't move to serve us and to top it off - pie came out - gone is the oven dish beautiful one with tasty cheese and beans + gravy and just a boring typical pie with boring oven chips. We will not be coming again.

An Architectural gem, tastefully decorated, 3 ales on the bar, the once proud Raven pub sign is rather worn, a shame, it would make the pub look so much more inviting from the outside with a refresh.

We only go in for two breakfasts & a brew on a Sunday, brilliant brekkies though, not many in Sunday morning (which we like) although we do know everyone there, recently done up & brighter than it was, needs Wi-Fi as can't get a signal on mobile data

Closed tonight at10. 30. Used to be bouncing at this time under the previous owners. Bloke running the place not really got the knack.

Old fashioned pub in warm old Tetley colours has a Wednesday discount day for Cask Critics, which seems to bring in the numbers. Nice selection of hand-pulled ales and also food.
