Tsu Castle Ruins (Tower)

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Tsu Castle Ruins, a serene and picturesque park, offer a tranquil setting with ancient trees casting cool shadows over narrow pathways alongside weathered stone walls. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful ambiance and explore the three-story structure, which may appear small inside. The site also features a spare shachi at the entrance for closer inspection. While there may not be much to do, it's an ideal spot for relaxation and leisurely strolls in a beautiful park setting.
Very beautiful park .

The Tsu Castle Ruins are mostly like a park with large old trees creating shadow while walking on narrow tracks along the stone walls, a charming and quiet place to stroll around on a hot sunday, having the whole ruin for myself

(Translated by Google) The castle tower of Tsu Castle, built by the master castle builder Todo Takatora, was burned down, but this tower has become a symbol of the castle. But what is the point of a tower like this, built for tourism purposes, in a completely different location and shape? I don't understand it. (Translated by Google) When I visited about four years ago, I thought, "I probably won't have another chance to come back," but I never imagined this castle would be included in another list of the 100 Great Castles... (Well, there are many more places like that in the future.) The stone walls remain in excellent condition, but once you step inside, it's like a regular park, and there's nothing to see other than the stone walls and the watchtower. The watchtower also looks good in photos, but seeing it in person...?? There seem to be only two possible composition options: either shooting it from across the road, or from directly below. If it weren't for the stone walls, I would have given it one star.

History Museums
The Mie Prefectural Museum, located in the suburbs of Tsu City, is a comprehensive museum showcasing dinosaur fossils, dioramas, and artifacts related to the natural and cultural history of Mie Prefecture. The museum's impressive building was newly constructed in 2014 and houses permanent and special exhibition rooms on its third floor. Visitors can explore exhibits that encompass nature, culture, history, and people's lives of Mie Prefecture.
The one of must-visit museum in Mie Prefecture. It shows a natural richness of Mie Prefecture with outstanding diorama of forest and snowy mountain. Some diorama also worth to explore. Unfortunately due to covid, we can get the guide information in English, so google translate for the rescue.
Adella P — Google review
Not a gigantic museum, consisted of only 3 floors and a garden at the back. But they are just enough to get to know about this region and have a little walk. Loved the atmosphere, clean and neat. There are also some community spaces available to everyone, so it would be good to bring kids around and have a lazy easygoing weekend. But one star off as most of the exhibitions don’t offer English or any other language. so foreigners could have a little difficulty getting to know deeply about the region.
二スヤ — Google review
It's a nice place to learn about the history, geography and cultural aspects of Mie. The highlight is of course the Mie elephant skeleton located on the 3rd floor. It has a small reading area with books. The main exhibition hall has an audio guide where you can choose between 6 languages - they'll give you a QR code, scan it and on the webpage choose the language and play the appropriate audio file. That webpage was kind of laggy but still manageable. There is a small souvenir shop and a garden through which you can exit.

Oyatsu Town is a theme park established by Oyatsu Company, Ltd in July 2019. The park offers various attractions such as a sweets-making experience, an obstacle course, and exclusive meals only available at the town. It's an ideal destination for families with children due to its abundance of play equipment. Additionally, fans of Baby Star snacks and Butamen can indulge in their favorites at the cafeteria which reflects the vibrant colors of Oyatsu Company.
Awesome place! We went with our 3 year old daughter, who had a total blast there. Perfect place to pass a few hours with young kids.
Ehud E — Google review
For the basic entry fee, your child can use the slide, kick a soccer ball at lit up board, shoot hoops, climb a wall or try table tennis or mini-mini golf (suitable for preschoolers). An average of two kids can do an activity at one time; you need to wait in line for your few minutes of glory. My ten year old wanted to do the indoor zip-line challenge, which cost an additional Y2500. He had to wait about 30 minutes for his turn and finished the challenge in about 20 minutes. Ramen costs about Y800/bowl. You can leave for a meal and come back the same day. At noon we saw a show on stage with acting, dancing and great costumes.

Yūki Shrine

Shinto shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Yuki Shrine is a centuries-old Shinto place of worship known for its stunning plum blossoms. The vibrant displays of plum blossoms are at their best around mid-March, creating a mesmerizing sight with beautiful pink petals that signal the arrival of spring. The shrine features multiple varieties of plum trees, including famous weeping plums, which bloom ahead of schedule and create an excellent opportunity for plum blossom viewing.
During spring season, cherry blossom are blooming and have sweet odor. Very gorgeous. Have a few shops in front of the shrine.
Supasuta L — Google review
First of all, I must tell you that you had better start immediately now without hesitation! Because, the Plum there is at their best now! In addition, weather forecast tells tomorrow is rainy. Everyone will be noticed once visiting Yuki-Shrine today! No argument, let's go for the best conditioned Ume flowers! Even wheelchair uses are available, toilets are prepared well, parking place also. 14, March, 2023 visited. I slipped in and made it in time for the last plum blossom viewing of the year, 4 days ago. Should we have come a week or two ago. 27, February, 2024 visited. Stormlike strong wind made me so anxious about the condition of plum flower yesterday at Yuki-Shrine in Mie Prefecture, but it was in vain, no problem inside. Unexpectedly occurred low pressure was the reason. Though the aiming purpose to shoot was Weeping Plum, unexpected specific green colored birds in number easily changed my determination immideately. Minolta Auto Rokkor 58mm/f1.4 was set on 33*44 image for the initial target, but my moved mind by them proceeded to exchange 58mm/f1.4 into New MD 135mm /f2.8. As we know, so quick moving object is above difficulty at all if no sophisticated performance such as eye seeking capability in the autofocusing program with so to speak AI programing. As for my equipment, all complete fully manual procedure with no programmed digital support!!

Tsukairaku Park

Park
Nature & Parks
Tsukairaku Park, located just a short walk from Tsu Station, is a picturesque green space featuring a pond and an interesting historical background. Once the second home of Todo Takayukiko, the 11th daimyo of Tsu Clan, this park now offers visitors a delightful setting to admire the beauty of nature. The park boasts over 1000 Yoshino cherry trees that attract crowds during the blossom season from late March to early April.
Went there on April 7. We go there every year when sakura blooms. It has lots of food stalls and a large open area where you can set up a picnic.
Dan R — Google review
We were there for Hanami cherry blossom viewing during the festival. We enjoyed walking around and buying food from the stalls.
Tanya D — Google review
The best place to enjoy the hanami in Tsu city. Food booths, plenty of space to do picnic, toilets, playground for kids and very beautiful cherry blossoms. The food booths work until about 10pm, so it's very nice to enjoy the hanami at night too (sorry, just in April) Very convenient place, just next to Tsu station west exit. Easy to go by Kintetsu or JR lines.

Opened in December 1987, the museum features replicas of famous masterpieces from the Louvre Museum in Paris, including 'Venus de Milo' and 'Winged Victory of Samothrace.' Visitors can easily reach the museum with a five-minute walk from Kintetsu Sakakibara-Onsenguchi Station.
I went there for the first time on Last week of January 2023. It was very beautiful. So clean. On a snowy day i enjoyed a lot and took some photos and videos. If someone is planning to go there I highly recommend this place to everyone. Very nice place.

The place is not busy even on weekends. Mainly, you can find different sculptures from Egypt, Greece and Rome. You can spend 30-60 minutes or more to tour inside. Taking pictures is not prohibited. There is also a Bhuddist Shrine in front of the museum. You can buy the tickets in set for ¥2000 or just the museum for ¥1500. The parking fee is free.

Iruka Onsen Hotel Seiryuusou

Hotel
Banquet hall
Iruka Onsen Hotel Seiryuusou is a casual hot spring hotel with clean and new rooms, offering a restaurant and outdoor bathing facilities. Guests can enjoy excellent dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The spacious tatami rooms come with a sink, fridge, and toilet but no shower. However, the in-house onsen provides both indoor and outdoor baths for bathing.
Driving westward along Road 311, which overlaps with part of the Kumano Trail, we encountered a beige-colored steel bridge over the Kitayama River as we exited a tunnel near Kiwacho. The confluence of the Itaya and Kitayama rivers was to our north, prompting a left turn onto a road along the Kitayama River. Within less than 1 km, we found Iruka Onsen Hotel Seiryuusou on the left. The hotel, situated on an outer bend of the Kitayama River, is elegantly decorated, offering a luxurious yet simple atmosphere. The reception, manned by a couple of middle-aged men, was somewhat cold but professional. We were assigned a ground-floor room next to the staircase, equipped with tatami-style beds, though the cleanliness left something to be desired, albeit very slightly so, possibly due to the aging furniture. With little time to spare, we headed to a lookout spot we had seen on our way to the hotel to admire the Kitayama River. Despite the drizzle, which enhanced the experience, mist rose from the flowing water, creating a dreamlike scene. We enjoyed a decent dinner at Yamatoya, the only 'bigger' restaurant nearby, followed by a relaxing onsen experience at the hotel - by the way, most of the people in the onsen seem to be Kumano Kodo backpackers. The next morning, after revisiting the onsen and having a satisfying breakfast, we attempted to catch a sunrise east of Kiwacho but were unsuccessful. However, we did visit the confluence of the Itaya and Kitayama rivers north of the bridge, where we found beautiful scenery. It is unfortunate that, due to shortage of time, we skipped a few worthy scenic spots nearby, including the Doro Kyo Gorge, Nunobuki Falls, Tamakiguchi, and the Megaliths; however, we now have another reason to return to this area. Overall, our stay at Hotel Seiryuusou was a great experience and we highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
Jane B — Google review
Rooms are tidy, I stayed in the traditional Japanese room. Futon was made on arrival. In house onsen 150¥ I chose the mountain view. It was beautiful.
Charis P — Google review
Fantastic location right on the river. Such a relaxing place. Wonderful friendly staff. Restaurant was affordable and delicious.
Neill H — Google review
Gorgeous, clean & quiet. Soft music played at car park. Big & spacious tatami room with sink, fridge & toilet but no shower. In-house onsen has indoor & outdoor bath, clean & spacious as well. Our room window is viewed to the big field with many sakura trees & the big river, stunning! 1 front desk gentleman speaks good English. Free herbal jelly in the fridge. Abt 20 mins drive to Hongu Taisha or Doro Kyo gorge to enjoy the boat ride. As we booked our room through Agoda, during checkout, we were surprised that the hotel presented us with 900 yen onsen tax for staying there for 3 days. Though it is not much, we were not told about this tax when we checked in or when we booked, so it was a little weird. Given that there is no shower in the room, it's almost certain that you will need to take a shower in the onzen, we don't quite understand the logic of this onsen tax for in-house guests.
Angie L — Google review
It is a great place for staycation. The onsen's really good, and from outside onsen you can see a beautiful view. This hotel have convenience store, the staffs are friendly. Although the communication a little hard if it but they do daily conversation in English. Maybe because the staff here is not too young.
Merry — Google review
Beautifully maintained and run, comfortable and with pleasant and competent staff. It's a bit out of the way but with a car it's no bother. Only surprise was no shower in the room so you must goto the hotel's onsen. This may be a bit too much for foreign visitors. Excellent facility at onsen but it is a bit of a hassle to trudge over if you just want a quick shower and head out for sightseeing.
Richard K — Google review
I had a mixed feeling about this place. We were leading a large group of students for camping at near riverside. We took a room for teachers and used a shower facility on the ground floor. A staff who looked like a guard complained that we should finish using the facility earlier as he wanted to finish the day earlier. That gave us a negative feeling about this hotel. We used restaurants etc that were good. It is unfortunate that a staff cancelled out positive experience by his attitude. I thought I should leave a note on this.
Tadashi S — Google review
This ryokan onsen hotel feels new and clean overall; even without a shower tub in the room, I did not mind going to its nice public onsen for bathing. Dinner and Breakfast are both excellent. I used this hotel as a base to visit the incomparable Maruyama Senmaida and Doro-kyo Gorge / Kitayama, using a rented bike from Kumano Itaya Kurobe no sato, Michino-no-eki in Kiwacho Itaya. Hotel staff and Customer Service at this hotel are also the best, as evidenced by the free hotel shuttle back to Kumano or Shingu. Without question, this is the best hotel out of the 18 I stayed at during my 5 week trip to Japan this Spring.

Shitennō-ji

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Shitennō-ji, a Buddhist temple, offers various attractions for visitors. One notable feature is a stamp card program that rewards regular visits with special goshuin stamps. While monthly visits are preferable to fully enjoy this benefit, the distance may be a hindrance for some. Additionally, the temple boasts a stylish photo stand and an inviting atmosphere during its tea parties. Known for its cleanliness and friendly staff, Shitennō-ji is certainly worth exploring alongside other temples in the area.

(Translated by Google) Visited in August 2025 It was a beautiful graveyard, with permanent and pet memorials available. I visited without any prior information, but I highly recommend it. Shitennoji Temple is said to have been built by Prince Shotoku. There's also a Sanmen Daikokuten statue, said to have been prayed to by Oda Nobunaga, a painting of Prince Shotoku at age 16 from the Kamakura period (approximately 800 years ago) that's an Important Cultural Property, a painting of Todo Takatora and his wife, and a painting of Hell. The 22nd is Prince Shotoku's monthly memorial day, and apparently you can get a special goshuin stamp. I visited on the 22nd, and after much deliberation, I chose the Sanmen Daikokuten statue. I couldn't afford the 1,500 yen (╥﹏╥) On my way back, I also visited the bell tower. I rang the bell softly. (Translated by Google) One of the four Shitennoji temples said to have been built by Prince Shotoku. The temple enshrines Tsuchida Gozen, the mother of Oda Nobunaga, Nobukane, and Oichi, who stayed in Tsu Castle relying on Nobukane. Her grave stands quietly at the back of the peaceful grounds. The temple also has many important cultural properties. [Statue of Prince Shotoku (Important Cultural Property)] A statue of Prince Shotoku at age 16, created during the Kamakura period, about 800 years ago. He holds a gold-handled incense burner in each hand and is depicted praying for his father, Emperor Yomei, to recover from an illness. His plump features and vermilion lips give him a youthful impression, but there is also a sense of a strong will within him. Although the painting is done in muted tones, gold and red are used in some of the patterns on his robe, further enhancing the painting. Produced: Kamakura Period Technique: Colored silk Size: 112 x 39.5 cm [Todo Takatora and his wife (Important Cultural Property)] Lord Todo Takatora was a military commander active from the Sengoku period to the Edo period. The statue of Todo Takatora has a sword hanging from his side, and his sharp eyes and large mouth vividly reproduce Takatora's majestic appearance. His wife's name was Kubo-in, and in the statue she is sitting facing left. She is depicted wearing a gorgeous uchikake with grapes and willows, which were popular in the Momoyama period, and after her sudden death at Tsu Castle, she was buried in the Shitennoji cemetery. Takatora became the first lord of the Tsu Domain (present-day Tsu City, Mie Prefecture) in 1608, and worked hard to rebuild Tsu Castle and the town of Tsu, which had been burned down during the Battle of Sekigahara. Shitennoji Temple was also burned down, but was rebuilt by Todo Takatora as the family temple of his wife. This shows the loving side of Takatora, who cherished his wife. When you visit Shitennoji Temple, please be sure to pray at the grave of Takatora's wife, Kubo-in, located on the mountainside within the temple grounds, and think of Todo Takatora, who built the town in the hope of bringing peace to the people. [Yakushi Nyorai Statue (Important Cultural Property)] The Yakushi Nyorai statue at Shitennoji Temple was built at the request of a woman named Mononobe Misao, who lived during the Heian period. Mononobe Misao, who was bedridden with illness, began building the statue in the hope of recovering from her illness. However, Mononobe Misao passed away before seeing the completion of the statue, and the monk Jojin, who inherited his wish, completed it in February 1077 (Shoho 4). The Mononobe clan is famous for opposing the acceptance of Buddhism and for being in fierce conflict with the Soga clan and Prince Shotoku. However, 500 years later, during the Heian period, Mononobe's daughter also worshipped the Buddha and prayed for recovery from illness. The story of the construction of the Buddha statue was written on a piece of paper found inside the Buddha's womb, and other items found included a mirror and comb from the Heian period. Takayama Shrine, a Shinto shrine located in the heart of Tsu city, is dedicated to Takatora Todo, the first ruler of the Tsu domain. Known for his military prowess and contribution to castle construction, Takatora's name inspired the shrine's title. Unlike other shrines surrounded by forests, Takayama Shrine boasts a sunny and vibrant atmosphere. Within its premises lies Shiroyama Inari Shrine and three stone monuments of Yamagami.

Unafuji

Unagi restaurant
If you're looking for a delightful culinary experience, Unafuji is definitely worth a visit! This popular spot offers Kansai-style unagi that stands out with its crispy skin and robust flavor. Despite the often long lines—sometimes up to 30 minutes—you'll find the generous portions and affordable prices make it all worthwhile. On my recent trip, I arrived on a chilly Thursday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to find only three tables available at first.
Didn’t realise the queue is usually mad crazy for this place. We got there at 1pm on a windy extra cold thursday and there were 3 free tables. A few minutes after us the two other tables got filled up almost right away. Ordered the biggest unagidon and thought it was a little too much for me, I felt bad I couldn’t finish the rice. The soup was nice too. Overall good quality unagi at very reasonable price! It usually costs us double for this size. Also friendly and fast service! If anything we think the toilet could use a little upgrading.

Great food, but the unisex restroom was a shock (maybe rural Japan style, but still surprising). Even more surprising is the line up for this place. The lot where people are waiting for HOURS is uncovered. The owners should cover the lot so people don’t die of sunstroke waiting for their food☀️🔥☀️🔥☀️ Overall, the charcoal-broiled unagi was great and crispy (I’ve never experienced unagi prepared like this). Really good touch there. People here in Japan seem to love waiting hours for food they could get at a normal place in 5 minutes. If you’re into that experience, Unafuji is a great place for you. Good service overall and the prices are reasonable.

I did a take out for 2 sets of 6pc unagi. There are no nasty smell. No chewy skin. Sauce is rich and way better than the one you get from supermarket. I’ll go again next time I come back home. Plastic bag could be unnecessary and the also container uses some plastic too.

There is parking for about five cars in the row next to the restaurant and in the vacant lot across the street. I arrived at the restaurant at 11:30, and there were about 10 people waiting. The restaurant has a good turnover, so I was able to enter about 15 minutes after arriving. For lunch, I ordered "Grilled eel and rice." My meal was served in about 10 minutes. The meal came with fragrant eel with crispy skin, rice, liver soup, and pickles. The eel was grilled well, even down to the skin, and was delicious. I ordered the rice with sauce, so when I ate the grilled eel and rice together, the double sauce brought out the rich flavor. I regret having ordered plain rice instead of the sauce-flavored rice. The liver soup was very delicious. Perhaps they make the broth from the eel's bones, as it went perfectly with the eel rice. The soup was very delicious. The staff's service and preparation were efficient, and the atmosphere was very comfortable. It's a down-to-earth restaurant without the overbearing feel you might find in high-end eel restaurants. I think it's a very reasonably priced eel restaurant! This quaint eatery, established in 1890, offers delectable eel delicacies. Patrons can relish in the unique flavors of the unagi dishes without breaking the bank. The traditional tatami-style seating adds an authentic touch to the overall Japanese dining experience. Shintamatei is well-regarded for its reasonably priced yet scrumptious unagi dons and sets.

(Translated by Google) I'm from Kanto. I love Kansai-style eel, and I decided that since I came all the way to Mie, I definitely wanted to eat Kansai-style eel on this day. However, I didn't know that Tsu City has the highest eel consumption in the country, so I thought, "Well, if I wait for 20 to 30 minutes, I'll be able to eat it." However, I took a taxi to about four places, including Hatsune and Hashiya, but all of them said that I would have to wait two hours outside in the hot sun. Finally, I arrived at this restaurant on the fifth visit. I waited for an hour, but they said they would let me sit, so I decided to have lunch here. I actually wanted to eat hitsumabushi, but I gave up because it is only served at night. Instead, I ordered unaju and shirayaki. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations because it was the fifth visit I finally got to, and they didn't have the hitsumabushi I was looking for. ...But my expectations were greatly exceeded in a good way! Even though I love Kansai-style eel, this was definitely one of the best. Especially the sashimi-grilled eel. The aroma and delicious fat were exquisite, and I felt like I could eat it forever. The eel rice bowl was well-soaked in sauce, but still had the crispy texture that is typical of Kansai-style eel, and I couldn't stop saying "delicious" from start to finish. Also, when I told the female waitress that I didn't really understand the menu, she kindly explained it to me without a single frown, despite being busy. I may not have many opportunities to come to Tsu, but if I do, I would have no hesitation in treating myself to eel here again. Thank you very much. I arrived too early and waited in line for a while, but I ended up at the front of the line. It seems everyone else was waiting in their cars. I was debating whether to order a medium portion of rice, but I was glad I decided not to after one look! The portion is quite large. My wife said she couldn't eat it at first sight, so I helped her with some of the rice. It said the flavor was on the strong side, but it was just right for us! The eel set meal allows you to enjoy a variety of flavors, including kabayaki. I particularly love the uzaku and toumaki. The set usually includes separate grilled eel and rice, but if you prefer unadon, you can change it to the "unadon set meal." I usually order the eel set meal, but when I'm not particularly hungry, I sometimes order other dishes (hitsumabushi, unaju, unadon, bento). By the way, although I currently live in the Kanto region, I've been accustomed to Kansai-style eel since childhood, so no matter how famous the eel restaurants in the Kanto region are, I don't find them particularly tasty. I envy those who can enjoy both. Hashiya

$$$$affordable
Unagi restaurant
Hashiya is a specialized eatery renowned for its unmatched expertise in serving unagi, the Japanese freshwater eel, accompanied by a bed of rice within a spacious and well-ventilated environment. Although it may be slightly expensive, the culinary experience offered is truly exceptional and justifies the cost. Nestled in Tsu city-Mie prefecture, this establishment stands out as the best destination for indulging in an authentic and delectable Japanese eel bowl.
There are several top quality grilled eel restaurants in Tsu, Mie, and this certainly qualifies as one. Not quite a hidden gem, but diners don't suffer from long waits common at places with better name recognition. Comfortable, kind and delicious.

Eel is indeed very delicious, but I still give a negative review. The waiting time is too long, not only waiting outside, but also waiting for more than half an hour in the seat after ordering! And the seats are arranged next to the kitchen entrance, with staffs coming and going around, which is unsettling and very uncomfortable! Seeing the female boss directly wiping shoes with her hand, the hygiene awareness is very poor.

Japanized western restaurant
French restaurant
Toyoken is a highly praised Japanized Western restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience for special occasions. The menu features a variety of dishes, including their famed Matsusaka beef hamburger steak, which is both delicious and beautifully presented. The attentive staff and elegant ambiance make guests feel like they are in a luxurious hotel. One must not miss the intriguing black curry, which surprises with its complex flavors. Despite being located in a historic setting, Toyoken's prices remain reasonable for the high-quality food served.
High end resteraunt, very professional and the food was good. I ordered Black Curry and sake. The curry was good, a little spicy, not much, but tasted very much like beef. The portion size was enough for myself, and I am a large eater, and to my surprise, went quite well with the sake in my opinion. The resteraunt serves you with a drink menu first, then the proper menu after. You also use cloth napkins, and proper silverware and win glasses. It is a higher end resteraunt, so the prices can be very pricey depending on what you order. It serves good gourmet food.

Traditional western style restaurant founded more than half a century ago. Taste of dishes is favorable, not hard seasoned acceptable for ordinary Japanese people including children, reasonable price. Black curry is famous dish and to be tasted for every visitor. No disappointed.

I later learned that Tsu gyoza is a large fried gyoza that is served with salt and pepper😅. There was a gyoza sauce in front of me, but it was covered in paper so it would be weird to pour it over it, and I didn't have a dipping plate, so I thought about that before I ate it. Went here twice for dinner on a weekday but sadly it was always closed with a note that they were already sold out. So we went again on a weekend for lunch. We queued for about 20 minutes. The place had several tables available inside. I ordered the Himemabushi Set. I really loved the Unagi. It has a bit of crunchiness which I enjoyed. The sauce felt a bit lacking though. Still enjoyed our meal here.
Aibi Y — Google review
Eat eel in Tsu! The hitsumabushi is pretty nice and noticeably cheaper than in Nagoya. That said, they reserve the thicker pieces of unagi for the standalone orders, so definitely order unadon/unaju if you are not very bothered about the condiments or the liver soup. Popular with local businessmen for after-work drinks, which makes for fun people watching.
Kate — Google review
It’s pretty good, but the service is bare minimum. That’s their style probably. I wish their t’aliéna is more natural, and also the soup is pretty salty. As unagi has good flavor, other stuff can be milder out.

By 11:30, it wasn't full, but there were still quite a few people there. I had a medium-sized bowl of kabayaki rice. The skin was crispy and had a fragrant aroma, which made me want to eat more rice! The same portion in the Kanto region would probably cost around 3,000 to 3,500 yen. The shirayaki also had crispy skin and plump, juicy meat. I enjoyed it with salt and wasabi soy sauce. It definitely went down well with a beer. I paid using PayPay. Luckily, I visited shortly after they opened, so I didn't have to wait in line. I ordered shirayaki and hitsumabushi. While shirayaki doesn't quite stack up to kabayaki when eaten with rice, I think the flavor of the eel on its own is quite good. The moderate savory flavor and eel aroma spread throughout your mouth, making it delicious. This was actually my first time trying hitsumabushi, and I love the variety of flavors and the portion sizes. The initial eel rice was delicious, as was the dashi chazuke, and the rest was even better than I expected. By the time I left the restaurant, a line had formed. There's a ventilation fan outside, so I was unnecessarily worried that the eel smell would be unbearable on an empty stomach. I immediately ordered a curry udon set meal and a partner's oyakodon, and the curry was so luxurious that when I tried to eat the udon, the noodles were so soft that they didn't come out easily. (Translated by Google) This restaurant specializes in noodles and is located in Nishimachi, Matsusaka City, Mie Prefecture. It's located along the Ise Kaido, north of the Honmachi intersection on Prefectural Route 24. It's on the east side, just past the bridge north of the former Ozu Seizaemon family home. It's a long-established restaurant, and the fact that it's called a branch suggests that there was once a main store here. There's a parking lot on the north side of the building. There were several electric fans placed in the slightly dimly lit interior, and a residential window air conditioner was humming at full blast. Around 70% of the menu is noodles, with udon, soba, and kishimen noodles available. They offer surprisingly large portions and set meals that can be ordered individually for an additional 300 yen. The set meal consists of five rice balls, tempura mainly made with sweet potatoes, and pickles. They also have a wide selection of curry dishes, with a choice of udon, soba, or kishimen. Cold dishes are also available. They also have rice dishes, but the variety is limited. It seems like many customers order individual rice balls as an add-on. They also have a la carte fried foods. The udon noodles aren't advertised as being handmade, but they're thick and somehow uneven in thickness. Perhaps they're handmade and not pre-made? The curry was spicy and sticky, and the tempura was a little oily. The clientele seems to be mostly local residents, and the wait staff are older ladies, giving the impression of a typical long-established restaurant. Many of the dishes are priced under 1,000 yen, which is a positive point. Even so, the average review score is low. It could easily fall below 3.0. Do people choose chain restaurants that only look nice, without realizing that they have a central kitchen—meaning the food is pre-cooked in the microwave? Or are they just trying to do whatever they want at the Aeon food court? This isn't just my opinion; perhaps the local long-established restaurants also need to pay more attention to their initial impression. Otherwise, I think customers won't choose them based on the quality of the food alone.

Nice restaurant with great food. I came early for lunch (about 11:30 on a Tuesday) and it was fairly busy but my party of 3 + 1 baby were seated right away. Restaurant is clean and modern inside and the staff are very efficient and nice. I ordered the beef sichew which is the restaurants famous dish, and I wasn’t disappointed. The meal came with salad, soup, rice or bread, and the main dish for 2,618 JPY. Portion size was nice and the dishes were all very flavorful, just a bit expensive, but I’m glad I tried it as it is delicious. The other items on the menu are priced considerably cheaper and also look very good so I’ll have to come back again and try them. All in all a solid 4 star restaurant!

This place has been around for years and is quite popular. Their own recipe for beef stew is quite rich and tasty. It is a bit pricey. However the other items on the menu were reasonably priced and looked delicious. I recommend the bread vs rice with the beef stew.

What great teamwork. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was lively, and it seemed like there were a lot of groups using the place for some kind of gathering. Chubu Centrair International Airport

International airport
Sights & Landmarks
Chubu Centrair International Airport, nestled on an artificial island in Tokoname City, serves as a vital gateway connecting the Chubu region to both domestic and international destinations. This modern airport boasts direct rail access and convenient on-site accommodations for travelers. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of aircraft taking off and landing from the observation deck while exploring a diverse array of restaurants and shops that showcase the culinary delights of the Chita Peninsula.
Despite the gloomy weather, I really enjoyed my time at Chubu Centrair International Airport. The Sky Deck observation area is spacious and offers a great view of the runway—perfect for plane spotting or just taking a relaxing walk. The airport itself is clean and well-organized, with plenty of restaurants and shops to explore. I also loved the fun touches like the ninja figure inside the terminal—it added a bit of charm and made the experience even more memorable. Definitely worth a visit whether you're flying out or just passing through!

Spacious airport with reserved parking available. Clear signs make it easy to get around. There’s a kids’ play area only in Terminal 1, plus restaurants and ATMs throughout.

Love the design at this airport. They use Ninja & Samurai in all signage. On the departure hall, there are tax free shops and many restaurants especially the famous ones. The shrimp chips shop (senbei) is also on this floor. The observatory deck is super nice - recommend when the sun sets. Love the public bath at this airport as well. 1000¥ with indoor hot bathing and out door for seeing the aircraft.

Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) is one of the most pleasant and efficient airports I’ve ever experienced. From the moment you arrive, everything feels well-organized and thoughtfully designed. The airport is clean, spacious, and easy to navigate, with clear signs in English, Japanese, and other languages. Immigration and baggage claim are usually quick and hassle-free. One standout feature is the Flight of Dreams attraction featuring the Boeing 787 Dreamliner — a unique and interactive space that’s great for families and aviation fans alike. The Sky Town shopping and dining area is also impressive, offering a wide variety of Japanese and international food at reasonable prices. Overall, Centrair feels more like a travel destination than just a stopover.

It’s quite simple to go to the train station from the airport by simply following the metro sign. However, it’s quite a walk for about 15 minutes from Terminal 2. You’ll have to go to Terminal 1 first and pass through the food court to arrive at the train station.

Japan is the last place where you’ll experience such politeness, cleanliness, and beauty all at once. The moment you board your plane and leave, you’ll start missing everything about it—the orderly streets, the respectful bow of a shopkeeper, the spotless train stations, and even the quiet efficiency of daily life. Whether it's the convenience of vending machines on every corner, the precision of the bullet trains, or the warm hospitality of its people, Japan leaves a lasting impression. Once you’ve been there, nowhere else quite measures up.

Chubu Centrair International Airport is one of the best airports I’ve been to! It’s immaculately clean, spacious, and easy to navigate. The car rental signs are super clear, making it quick and simple to pick up a vehicle, which is always a huge plus. For families, the FLIGHT OF DREAMS is a fantastic free attraction. It’s an interactive experience centered around a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with loads of hands-on exhibits that are perfect for kids. My child had a blast pretending to be a pilot and learning about aviation! The airport itself has plenty of seating, charging stations, and a great selection of restaurants and shops. Overall, it’s a top-tier experience for both adults and kids. Highly recommend it!

This is an airport for Nagoya, one of Japan's major cities. It's convenient because you can reach the airport from Nagoya Station within 30 minutes by high-speed train. There's also a slower local train that will get you to Nagoya Station within an hour. The airport, typical of Japanese airports, is clean and well-organized. There are many seats and plenty of shops where you can purchase various goods. There's also an Issey Miyake store, which is popular among Koreans, and many other luxury brand stores. Overall, it's an excellent airport.

Nagoya Airport (Komaki Airport)

Domestic airport
Airport
Nagoya Airport, a small and modern airport, offers a convenient and efficient travel experience. The Flight of Dreams attraction at the domestic terminal features an amusement park with a Boeing 787 plane as its main highlight. Visitors can even try their hand at flying a Boeing 787 or Boeing 747 Dreamlifter on a flight simulator. The airport provides easy access to airplanes without long lines or extensive walking distances. It houses various amenities including convenience stores, cafes, gift shops, and restaurants.
We arrived in Nagoya last March 15, 2023. Passing thru the immigration arrival area was really fast, especially since we already did the online process. The baggage claim area was not packed with people as compared to Kansai Airport when we were there last January 2023. Passing thru customs was very organized and fast as well. The whole airport wasn't that packed with tourists as compared to Kansai. It was very clean also.

It’s not the biggest, fanciest, or popular. But it has the necessary and economic airlines are an option in this airport. It has an Starbucks and like 5 open restaurants, but some others open just in the weekends.

Small airport, quiet even but efficient n smooth operations typical of all things Japanese. Here to explore Central Japan with my family. I could not speak Japanese n they frequently struggled with my English but somehow my message got across. Signage were clear in dual language. As far as I could see, they demonstrate helpfulness, sincerity n a hard working attitude when performing mundane tasks. Well done.
Eng-Hoe L — Google review
Cute small modern airport. Fastest entry and then exit of a country I’ve ever experienced. Even the check-in and bag drop barely took 5 minutes. Very efficient. I thought the ninja puppets hanging from the ceiling were a nice touch. I wish some more of the stores were open in the departure hall. And I wish I could have found one last bottle of sparkling water in any(!) of the many vending machines. But the duty free shop did allow me to taste some Japanese single malt whiskies. (Very nice, but at 14,000 Yen per above my price range.) Main disappointment: the business class lounge was really not that good & there is not a single bottle of Choya for sale anywhere. I wish I had gotten some in town; but I thought I could save the hassle of packing and just do duty free carry-on.
Cecil M — Google review
In the past, international flights also departed from here, but now its role as an international airport has been transferred to Centrair. It is now used for both military and civilian purposes.
