An amazing museum with excellent interpretation about the work lives, technological advancement and impact on Welsh culture and identity. And it’s free to visit. A beautiful view from the balcony too.

One of the best museums to visit. They have very good preservation of many artifacts. Words are not enough to describe the historical heritage this museum holds. It's a must visit museum. Thanks a lot National Waterfront Museum 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Vishal Q — Google review
A wonderful museum. It's free to enter and packed with many great exhibits. Make sure you come by here if you're in Swansea! The interior of the museum was beautiful and spacious, it wasn't busy at all which is great if you like less hustle and bustle like myself.
Harvey — Google review
An eye-opener to the vast industrial history of Wales. Visited near to almost closing hours but the crew was so understanding and welcoming. Beautiful exhibits. Also the space around the museum is treat to the eyes, especially during sunsets(and sunrises if you're an early riser.)
Michelle V — Google review
Nice experience, Interesting museum. We went on a rainy day. Parking close by.

Swansea Indoor Market

Mentioned on
2 lists
Market
Swansea Indoor Market is a glass-roofed market that offers a wide range of local Welsh produce and diverse items. The market reflects the city's historical significance as a leading port and market town dating back centuries. Despite being destroyed during World War Two, the current building has been standing since 1959, accommodating various stalls selling fine foods, locally reared meats, handmade cheeses, artisan bread, cakes, crafts, and designer jewelry.
A lovely spot located in the town center. We had such a lovely time visiting and browsing all the stalls. There was a great variety of clothes, food, and fresh produce. Would recommend everyone take the time to come visit and support all the local businesses!
Remika — Google review
The hub for Swansea retail life is all here; the best and biggest permanent indoor market in Wales. Independent local producers offer the freshest and best food to be had; bakers, butchers, fishmongers, grocers and so on. There are also many service industry businesses from clothes and shoe alteration/repair, electronic repairs, key cutting, etc etc. Cafés and card shops, newsagents and nail bars, hardware and electronics. I was here for the annual ‘Make Music Day’ singing with the choir
Simon C — Google review
So many good food options and many cute local stalls! Definitely worth and visit and recommend to spend between 1-2 hours at the market alone.
Ann A — Google review
I haven't been for many years and to be honest, it's looking very run down and grubby, much like the rest of Swansea. We had coffee in one of the small cafes which was average at best and expensive. Most of the stall holders we met were very helpful and friendly, something I'm glad to say that hasn't changed.
Paul T — Google review
This is a great indoor market. Sells Welsh produce & lots of other market stalls. A great mix with good prices. Really friendly stall holders. Lovely to look around a traditional market with nice people.
RJ H — Google review
Nice local market with variety of foods to buy.
Shayan K — Google review
A local market, we were quite surprised by the quality of food, veg and meat. We tried welsh cakes, freshly baked and warm that were a fab match for a coffee. We were there with a baby, there were a few baby changing toilets. Pretty specious that was very helpful with our little one. I really recommend this market, we would not have know about it if one of the locals wouldn't kindly introduced that to us.
Mona F — Google review
Fabulous place to visit. Loved walking around, looking at the diverse range of goods for sale. Everyone was so friendly... and Jaspy got so many strokes. Yes, the market is dog friendly.!

Swansea Museum, the oldest museum in Wales, offers a journey through the rich history of Swansea. From prehistoric times to modern eras, the museum showcases artifacts such as an Egyptian mummy and a Welsh kitchen. Visitors can explore themed exhibits on local maritime and transport history, including the Mumbles Railway opening in 1807.
Fantastic museum rich with history. The building alone is fantastic. Plenty of signage so the layout was easy to follow. I do wish the shop stocked more goods and memorabilia though. Would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone that enjoys history.
Sian L — Google review
The mummy of Hor is marvellous (5 Stars). The story of Edgar Evans is interesting, and I enjoyed reading more information online. (4) The museum is very small with interesting art components to enjoy because not enough space between them. (3) It Is Time to Redesign the layout of the museum.
Cla S — Google review
We went there with my partner, on the 26th july, and it was great ! It's not big. But its well made, we liked the mummy room and the reconstitution of the house with the grandma inside it. Also the animals room had some very interesting things about evolution, extinction, and about protecting animals. People were very nice too !
Alex G — Google review
Located in the heart of Swansea, the museum features a diverse collection ranging from maritime artifacts to local art and archaeology. The exhibits are well-curated, providing insightful context and engaging displays that cater to visitors of all ages. The museum also features an intriguing display of a genuine Egyptian mummy, which is quite interesting. The mummy is accompanied by informative panels that detail its history, including the context of its discovery and the rituals associated with mummification. The admission is totally free and was not crowded even if it was a Saturday. It's definitely a goos place to spend few hours and gather some knowledge.
Kothmini S — Google review
I love that UK has free museums. We visited Swansea with a coach group. Schedule conflict meant we had to visit Swansea city centre in morning.. only Swansea museum was open. We.did not get the time to explore all the little activities they have for kids. We learnt of the history of Swansea and how WW2 damaged it's buildings but not its spirit. We learnt how the mummy was conserved and the significance of its motifs. It has some nice paintings on the 1st floor which need time to study. Do visit.
Shaunak S — Google review
It's a lovely place with lovely staff. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and seeing the beautiful sights. I recommend you go with a company to stake pictures and discuss with, also check out the Egyptian Mummy. Overall, I rate this experience highly in my books. I liked that it was up-to-date as it even had a COVID-19 record and point of care consumables. 100% recommend if that's your style.
Innocent K — Google review
A wonderful museum with some fine exhibits from many different countries and timespans.

The museum in Swansea was very interesting and educational. It was a wonderful experience because there were many exhibitions! It is inclusive to children as it offers an activity to find different mouse/rats. It was also free entry so very inclusive.

A very good museum about the great Welsh Poet and playwright Dylan Thomas, his life and works

What a great place. I loved the Chinese Wellbeing Workshop. The host was so warm and helpful. She showed us how to play Chinese board games and served us wonderful green tea too. I highly recommend visiting, even if it's just to go to the 2nd floor to see this wonderful programming.
Rachel F — Google review
I grew up in a family who not only loved the poetry and stories written by Dylan Thomas but, who remembered with great affection too his radio broadcasts. I loved as a child growing up being introduced to his poetry and writing. So, it was a dream come true when l first visited this lovely centre when it first opened in 1995 and then to return yesterday, for the second time. For me personally, as an absolute fan of Dylan Thomas, this centre always touches my heart ❤️ in every way. The staff are so very lovely, knowledgeable and welcoming. Thank you so much everyone.
Leighton D — Google review
Informative and fascinating centre celebrating the life and works of Dylan Thomas. Would make an excellent school visit. Great staff to boot!

Not an aficionado of Dylan I found this centre full of mementos of his life, so I got to understand Dylan a bit more. Very nice and welcoming reception staff. Cafe a bit meagre on the food side, coffee ok.

Plantasia

Zoo
Nature & Parks
Plantasia Tropical Zoo is a captivating attraction housed in a large glass pyramid, featuring an array of exotic cacti, tropical plants, wildlife, insects and fish. Situated at Parc Tawe retail park, this immersive adventure offers visitors the opportunity to interact closely with diverse animals and plants. Divided into two climate-controlled zones - tropical rainforest and arid - the zoo nurtures around 5000 thriving plants such as palms, bromeliads, orchids and giant bamboos.
A small, but lovely zoo, beautifully laid out with a very reasonably priced gift shop. We did the loop numerous times and saw the animals doing lots of different things. If you can't see something on the 1st time around, I would recommend going back as this worked well for us.
Amie J — Google review
We went to Plantasia on a wet holiday with young school-aged children. We bought tickets in advance to benefit from pre-booked discount. Parking was immediately outside the zoo (the car park was exceptionally busy going in-and-out). It was a small zoo, taking an hour and a half to go round at a slow pace. The children's trail gave them a little focus and helped them slow down, though more variation in questions would be better (most of the questions were "how long is ____"). And seeing damaged displays is sad. We all really enjoyed seeing the animals and learning about them though. A great activity, and particularly great in wet weather. Would definitely go again some time.
Midas G — Google review
It’s a small zoo but I wasn’t expecting it to be any bigger as it is in a retail park. I was definitely surprised by the variety of animals and plants. I loved how the whole place looks like if it is in the jungle and also that are different levels. My favourite were the Egyptian and red foot tortoises.
Claudia B — Google review
Average zoo. Slightly overpriced for a small zoo. Everything is cramped into a small space. Staff are great & knowledge, were really good with my inquisitive grandson. Finished within an hour. Gift shop is extortionate, not pocket money prices for children. For a city centre attraction I was expecting considerable more.
Khalid K — Google review
For a zoo on a retail park this was very reasonable and fun to visit. It’s cleverly ‘layered’ to give it lots of interesting perspectives and heights. The wildlife selection was decent for young children, of course you can’t help but feel sad for some in captivity, like the Macaw for example. But I guess that’s zoo’s for you. We arrived but hadn’t booked. It was full booked but they advised there were slots available later and to book online. Which was fine for us to do and wonder the many other retail outlets before going back. Overall perfect experience on a day with bad weather.
Rajen M — Google review
Family of 6 visiting for 1st time . We enjoyed the small zoo , theres plenty to see and do and will pass on some hours . Just be warned the location is full of drunks and drug users outside dont let this put you off .
Clinton F — Google review
The zoo is a great place even for a uni student like me. It has a range of animals to explore for a size of zoo like this one. But you gotta walk for more than a round or wait patiently to catch all species as they come and go, some hide in the hole or under the rock so you may not see it at first. But that's where the fun lies. Phillis the reptile is cute and lively, but I noticed a wound on her lower lip and she keeps touching it with her tongue. I hope they take care of it asap.
Jann C — Google review
Good little zoo. It only takes 20-30 minutes to walk around, but you can go round as many times as you want. A good, although limited, selection of animals, and most of the enclosures are spacious enough for them. Very good layout, with some good views of the enclosures. It was warm in there (which it needs to be for the animals). Wasn't that expensive (less than £20 for 2 adults, if you book in advance). Probably more suited to younger kids, but as an adult, I enjoyed it. If in Swansea, and have an hour spare, would recommend it (also the retail park it's in, has a selection of shops/restaurants).

Wonderful Tigers & Dragons exhibition, detailing Clive of India's role with the East Indian Trading Company. Beautiful needlework in the Dragon & Sunshades. Well worth a visit.
Sue B — Google review
A wonderful art gallery. The highlight was the Tigers &Dragons India and Wales in Britain exhibition, but there are many wonderful exhibits in the permanent collection.

What a great little gallery. It'd tucked away at the top of Swansea centre, but we'll worth seeking out.

A really excellent art gallery. Amazing show on when I was there. I could have spent ages in there. Nice loos as well. Always a bonus.
David C — Google review
Having walked there and intending to have coffee, then a walk around followed by lunch.. the cafe was closed. The local art and ceramics was good, but some of the exhibitions didn't live up to expectations. I wanted to see the textile one.. we'll it was just one model and a book !!
Lesley S — Google review
The Gallery is an inspiring free art space for everyone and provides a place for historical, modern and contemporary art exhibitions, talks, activities, performance and events in the heart of Swansea’s bustling artistic quarter. The gallery has a wonderful collection of artworks and ceramics, as well as works on paper, which form an important part of the city’s “cultural memory”. These artworks are displayed as permanent collections.

Swansea Castle

Mentioned on
+6 other lists
Castle
Located in the heart of Swansea's city center, Swansea Castle is a historic site dating back to the 13th century. The castle, originally built in 1107, features ruins with an arcaded parapet and informative panels for visitors. Once a strategic fortress overlooking the River Tawe and controlling the harbor and trading routes, it played a significant role in the town's history during the industrial revolution. Despite relatively little remaining today, it stands as a proud symbol of Swansea's past.
It's a lovely fort, a ruin in the middle of the city. It has a lot of back story, as explained in the nearby signage. It's worthwhile to see, even though we could only see it from the outside. There appeared to be no entrance for the public to enter the building, and it was completely free, no tickets were needed!
Cynthia R — Google review
Stunning. Ruin is worth a look around, although you can only see the outside.
Emma T — Google review
Ruins of a castle in the city centre. Open to the public for viewing for free, ruins can not be entered or explored for safety reasons.
Maggie W — Google review
To be honest it should be more about Castle Square than the actual Castle itself. There is not much left to see but the best part about visiting is, apart from the obvious old & new photo opportunity, is the gorgeous Castle Square with it's magnificent fountain and waterfall features. On a lovely sunny afternoon the sun bathed steps heading up to the castle from the square are a beautiful place to sit, enjoy and relax in the while visiting Swansea and all it has to offer
Paul W — Google review
Not a great deal to see, worth a 10 minute walk around and there's some nice fountains across the road. Not worth a special trip to see. Plenty of rubbish about which was pretty disappointing, some steps of something just shoved in one of the only bits you can see in to, along with all the rubbish. Could do with a good tidy up, such a shame for a historical building.
Miss B — Google review
Even though you can't access inside, it's always nice to chill out near the ruins . Early years and rebuilding 1106: The first timber castle was built by Henry de Beaumont after he was granted the Lordship of Gower. 1116, 1192, 1215, 1217: The early timber castle was attacked multiple times by Welsh forces, finally being razed in 1217. 1221–1284: William de Braose rebuilt the castle in stone, creating the "New Castle" that forms the basis of the current ruins. Strategic importance and later uses Strategic location: The castle was built on a cliff overlooking the River Tawe, which gave it control of the river and a vital trade route along the coast. Medieval conflicts: The castle was re-garrisoned during the Glyndwr revolt but saw little action in later conflicts like the English Civil War. 18th-century prison: The castle was later adapted to serve as a debtor's prison. Modern era: Today, the ruins are a stark contrast to the modern city center surrounding them, visible in Castle Square.
Ewilane B — Google review
It's decent to have a look at if you're wandering past, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of your way to see it. It's the small ruins of the castle and a few information boards. You can't get inside the castle! Nice fountain near the castle though!
Donna W — Google review
An interesting historic landmark in the middle of the old town in Swansea. Many tourists walk around and take pictures so it may be a challenge to make a picture without people standing about.

Dylan Thomas Birthplace, located in the heart of Uplands, Swansea, is a must-visit for literature enthusiasts. This historically listed house offers an accurate representation of a 20th-century family home and provides guided tours that allow visitors to explore the poet's upbringing. The house also offers traditional Edwardian dinners and accommodation within the home for an enchanting experience. Visitors can walk through the house freely or book tailored tours to learn more about Dylan Thomas and his life.
Absolutely loved our stay here. We were able to speak with the owner and get some history and tales of the house and it's restoration. You can definitely tell it has been a labor of love. Schedule a tour, stay if you can. Help them keep this important piece of literary history going.
Benjamin M — Google review
An amazing experience! Geoff and his team have done a wonderful job refurbishing Dylan Thomas' birthplace. During our stay, we were able to imagine how the family lived and how the young Dylan grew into a poet and writer. We deeply appreciate your painstaking efforts—both in the historical research and in the actual renovation. Since even modern singers appreciate DT, I hope this house will continue to endure for many years to come.
Monika M — Google review
Whilst visiting our grandson at university in Swansea, my wife and I made a trip to Cwm Donkin Park and Dylan Thomas' house. It proved to be a wonderful experience . The. park is very well maintained and exactly as we imagined and after spending about an hour there, we moved on to Dylan's birthplace for the house tour . What a treat was in store for us! We were met by the owner, Geoff, who sat us in the front parlour and proceeded to give us an illuminating history of the house and the time Dylan spent there. We were then left to investigate the whole house in our own time and see how the family lived there. It was a real priveledge to be looked after so well by Geoff, a remarkable man, who made us feel most welcome and was so knowledgeable that we learnt much more about Dylan's life - a totally unique experience.
John H — Google review
We visited last Sunday afternoon and had a really warm welcome and excellent introductory talk from Geoff Haden, the owner. The rooms all had good information boards about the house and the Thomas family. The house itself is beautiful, a great example of a house of its era, and the fact that Dylan Thomas lived there is the icing on the cake. Well worth a visit.... And the Welsh cakes and tea are worth having. Delicious!
David P — Google review
The experience of a lifetime. A week in the house where Dylan Thomas grew up and got the memories that he later shared with all of humanity. The house is not an Airbnb. It's a return to the 1900s. The location is stunning.
Doug B — Google review
It was truly a treat to stay in the house where Dylan Thomas was born, grew up and wrote much of his early work. If you are a Thomas fan, or even if you think you might become one someday, don't miss the chance to stay a night or more here. There are many writer's houses you can visit, but I don't know of any others you can actually live in. Since the house is restored quite faithfully to what it would have been like when DT lived there, it lacks a number of 'modern conveniences', but this is more than made up for by the authenticity of the experience. The house is full of interesting artefacts and is the best place in the world to read some of DT's many reminiscences of his childhood. We stayed for a week, using the house as a base for exploring Swansea, the Gower, Laugharne, the mountains, etc. Highly recommended.
TM J — Google review
A "hidden gem" where we had a truly memorable visit followed by an enormous afternoon tea served by Geoff whose warm welcome and obvious love for the house only added to the experience. We were surprised to be the only two visitors on the day. Please spread the word about this lovely place.
Maura H — Google review
To think that the legendary poet lived and grew up here is quiet special. I didn't go into the house but had to go out of my way to have a look based on my love of Under Milkwood.

Stayed in the marina tour Park. Booked and paid in advance, get issued an access/key code to open the automated gates, into the private secure compound for mobile homes. Feel very safe in such a busy marina. Quite by day, lively by night. When your in your own space, with the door closed you don't notice anything outside the compound. Got separate clean, toilets, shower bloke (also need access/key code). This is the same bloke as the reception. Bring your own hairdryer. You can buy electricity from the reception at £5 a time and get keep what you don't use on a card for next time. Hookup cables already in place to attach when your ready.

Nearby, Gower Surfing School offers lessons for those looking to catch some waves at Caswell Bay and Brandy Cove. After a day of beach activities, visitors can unwind at Fairyhill, an 18th-century estate surrounded by picturesque woodland and lakes. The area also offers scenic coastal footpaths where one might encounter dedicated swimmers braving the cold waters alongside surfers.
Very beautiful beach with great scenery on the top of the hill behind it. The parking a bit small and you might get a ticket if you park on double yellow. Try the ice cream and don’t swim if you are scared of frogs lol

One of the smaller but beautiful beaches located just a few minutes from mumbles. Often good surf conditions but can be difficult when there are many people using the water during high season. Lots of little eating options if at the beach and there is a formal toilet block.

Absolutey stunning beach. Very quiet with a beautiful cliff top coastal walk. Well worth a visit.

If you love the beach this is the place for you! A lovely little bay that is perfect for paddle boarding and when the tide goes out it has a great little beach. And there are some great views from the coastal path that goes right from the bay.

Lovely beach, large car park but does get busy in the summer. Surf Hire available. RNLI Beach Patrol on the beach in season. Nice rocks and cliffs to explore when the tide is out.

Lovely clean beach and stunning scenery even on a stormy day. Great for dogs too. A stop off at the café for a cuppa was much needed on a blustery day

What a cracking beach. You can do a surf lesson here and there is excellent facilities for disabled people. There's a small beach Cafe for snacks. The cliffs are really fun to clamber on and there are little rock pools for wee ones to play in. The sand is clean and the tidal retreat gives you loads of space. We setup near the rocks and had a lovely day.

Beautiful beach, shame about the parking! We visited here on a hot Friday in August 2025. We arrived at 11am only to find that the car park was completely full, much to our disappointment. So we ended up parking at Langland Bay, spending the day there and then walking along the coastal path to visit Caswell Bay. The beach at Caswell is beautiful & large when the tide is out. Langland is a lot rockier in comparison. There’s a cafe and a shop that sells fish & chips, beach paraphernalia etc. The public toilets were large and quite clean. Will visit again but will arrive much earlier next time to get in the car park!

Hanson at the Chelsea Restaurant is a cozy and award-winning venue located away from the bustling nightlife of Wind Street in Swansea. The restaurant prides itself on using the finest local ingredients to create innovative dishes that reflect the changing seasons. With two AA rosettes, it offers a gourmet menu featuring fresh seafood and locally sourced produce. The restaurant caters to vegetarians and vegans with a beautiful menu showcasing locally sourced, fresh vegetables.
I absolutely loved this place. The food was amazing. We had the 7 course tasting menu, and everything was cooked to perfection. My only criticism is that the waitress was on her own. She couldn't do enough for everyone, taking orders, seating guests, serving food, serving drinks, and operating the till, at one point she was actually running. She was amazing, but they definitely need more staff. I highly recommend the Hanson and we can't wait to go back.

A pleasant afternoon with friends at Hanson at the Chelsea cafe. A very good selection of food choices on the menu. Food was delicious, cooked just right and the presentation was excellent. Our chef and waitress were friendly and added to our afternoon experience.

Went for food to Hanson at the Chelsea. We tried the taster menu which was incredible! Would HIGHLY recommend! Well-balanced flavours and a variety of dishes to satisfy everyone's taste! My highlights? The steak with Stilton and caramelised onions 🥩 The beef-tart with scallops was buttery and delicious 🥧 The panna cotta was light and creamy 🥄 Overall, lovely atmosphere and very good service! Well done to everyone 👌🏼

I was treated to dinner here for my birthday last night. Unbelievably I've walked past this place maybe hundreds of times but had never realised what a hidden gem we had right under our noses! The restaurant was just impeccable from the decor to the atmosphere to the wait staff to the absolutely stunning food. Our waitress was just perfect, she was attentive without hovering, she anticipated everything we may need and was very friendly. The food... Oh. My. God. The Food! It was quite simply the best food I've ever eaten at any restaurant! It was brought out in a timely fashion, no long wait between courses, and everything was cooked to perfection! I cannot praise the chef enough. When we were being seated my partner briefly mentioned it was my birthday and the chef then, very thoughtfully, wrote happy birthday in toffee sauce on my dessert plate which I thought was a lovely touch, especially since we hadn't made a big deal of it being my birthday. Its little things like that which will make us go there again and recommend it to everyone we know. How lucky we are to have such a first class restaurant in our little city

Taster menu was fantastic, waitress was brilliant and attentive despite being very busy can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough

Discreet, courteous service . Charming hubbub of satisfied patrons. The much used phrase “one first eats with the eyes” is utterly apt here. The food is of genuine quality; immaculate presentation. Value for money excellent. Amazing choice on the lunchtime deal. Exceptional. We’ve booked straight away for the seven course taster menu dinner. Can’t wait! John P

Vegan restaurant
Nestled in the city center, Pant-y-Gwydr is a charming restaurant housed in the former premises of one of Swansea's oldest pubs. Under the ownership of a Franco-British couple, this rustic-chic dining spot offers traditional French cuisine with a Welsh twist. The menu features classic French dishes prepared with locally sourced Welsh ingredients, such as pigs trotters, perfectly cooked steaks, and a delectable southern French fish casserole.
Outstanding… Hearty, authentic French food full of flavour in a family run restaurant. Highly recommend the crème brûlée and ice creams, all home made. Also the dauphinois potatoes. Lots of great vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Staff were really friendly. Don't miss this place if you're visiting Swansea
Josephine J — Google review
Absolutely outstanding - a real hidden gem on the edge of Swansea's central shopping district. Authentic French cuisine prepared to perfection in an unassuming, relaxed and quiet environment. Family owned and operated and although not exactly offering 'everyday' pricing, it's far from exorbitantly expensive for what it is, and when compared to other establishments. It's a perfect venue for family events/celebrations, meet-ups with friends - you'll be glad you've found it and will soon be recommending it to all of your friends!
Brett P — Google review
Phenomenal. Best desserts in Swansea. Best French onion soup in Wales. For some reason I haven't made it to the Pant y Gwydr before. It is absolutely one one of the best restaurants in Swansea. I regret not coming here before. Comfortably in the top five with Slice, the Beach House and Hanson at the a Chelsea. Incredible, authentic french cuisine in a light an airy restaurant with a chatty atmosphere. The staff were friendly, courteous and professional. All the food is cooked from fresh in house and it really shows in the quality of the food. The food was very reasonably priced as well. The French onion soup, mussels, duck and "Zelensky" are all easy recommendations but make sure you save room for desert. Le Chocolat is absolutely incredible, from every perspective! I'm not sure why else to say but don't procrastinate and check out the Pant y Gwydr! I will absolutely be making a return visit! --- 2025 edit Still outstanding. Still a must visit.
Phil R — Google review
This was our second visit, two years after our first meal at Pant-Y-Gwydr. We were excited to return and despite our high expectations we were not at all disappointed. The meal was superb, with exquisitely balanced flavours and attention to detail. The menu is clearly well practiced with limited variation, but it doesn’t matter as there is plenty to choose from. We had two children in our party (aged 9 and 13) and whilst there isn’t a children’s menu we were able to use a couple of options modified to accommodate them. Children with unsophisticated palates might not be as well catered for. The interior appears to have been redecorated since we last visited and it felt more homely and comfortable than our first visit. The location of the restaurant is out of keeping with the quality of the food and service, but do not let that put you off from visiting.

delicious food. I'm French and the couscous was like back home. The chocolate dessert is enough for 4 people 😂

Brilliant meal and excellent service. Couldn't fault it at all! The dishes were authentic and cooked to perfection, the menu choices and wine list were excellent and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion or a treat. We will be returning.

Restaurant
The River House is a charming family-run restaurant located in an old Victorian building on the banks of the River Tawe in Swansea. With over 30 years of experience, owners John and Jane are dedicated to creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for their guests. The restaurant offers stunning views of the river from its beautiful garden terrace. Situated in the vibrant SA1 waterfront area, The River House serves up seasonal cuisine made with fresh, local ingredients.
I celebrated my birthday here. Splendid view as it was located just beside the river. Requested to write Happy Birthday on dessert plate and the service was more than that I expected. The chef even made a bonfire on the dessert plate 🤩🤩🤩 soo beautiful.
Bonnie C — Google review
I attended a 40th birthday celebration at this restaurant. They were happy to hide a birthday cake we brought and present it when we were ready. As we were such a large party, the adults had to pre-order with a non refundable deposit of £10 each and the children ordered on the night. The staff were great with our demands and so attentive with the children, much appreciated. The food was delicious. Having had the Goats cheese starter followed by the sea bass, I couldn't fault them. Vanilla cheesecake for dessert with just enough compote to not be too bland, it was nice. They take card and cash payments and are patient enough to sift through a large bill as we all paid separately. They had a well stocked bar with something for everyone. £5.70 for a single Parma violet gin with lemonade. More than enough bar staff to tend a busy bar area. Would eat here again.

This restaurant was so picturesque at night, made even more so by the lights and the surrounding water. I would say this is a perfect date night spot. It was virtually empty when we went but the service was immaculate. Although the food was presented beautifully, the flavours and textures didn’t wow me, however I would come again if I ever decide to revisit the city.

Great setting overlooking the beautiful waterfront and a really relaxed atmosphere made for a fantastic meal. My husband booked here for my birthday meal, high expectations as a number of friends had recommended this place for Sunday lunch. On arrival, we were told no booking had been made - and told we must have called the Scotland restaurant (even though we showed the lady 01792......). Anyway, was rectified by the manager who manages to sit all of us at a table. Food was lovely, really good. I went for the beef, as they'd run out of lamb. It was good, potatoes, Yorkshire, sauces all lovely. Started with calamari, to be honest had much better. Service was very slow, granted a busy day, but still really slow. Wait staff were amazing, couldn't do enough. Will definitely return, but not in a huge rush!

The Shed Restaurant, led by executive chef Jonathan Woolway, brings a unique dining experience to Swansea with its focus on Welsh ingredients and farm-to-fork philosophy. With influences from his time at St John in London, Woolway showcases his love for locally sourced produce from the Gower Peninsula, Brecon Beacons, Herefordshire, West Wales, and Monmouthshire borders. The open kitchen allows diners to witness the chefs at work while enjoying top-class dishes made with fresh ingredients.
We had a great experience at The Shed in Swansea. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, and the food stood out. The blood sausage was cooked perfectly, with a rich, balanced flavour. The service was attentive, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed and were excellent in advising with our choices from the menu. The Shed offers an excellent dining experience with high-quality dishes that are well worth trying. If you’re in Swansea, it’s definitely worth a visit for a Welsh inspired and beautifully cooked meal.

Enjoyed most of the food, loved the potted crab and the liver parfait for starters, cockle croquettes also good. For mains the Skate was especially good. Sides were fine but desserts were excellent, loved the Strawberry trifle and the rice pudding. Drinks wise they had a good selection of wines available by the glass. Service was very cold, certainly not something I'm used to, I don't think any of the staff wanted to be there, my elderly parents felt very unwelcome and have said they'll never go back which is a shame. Staff didn't even bother explaining the cheeses on the cheese board. Definitely worth a visit if you appreciate this type of cooking

Came here with my dad for his birthday. Really delicious food and excellent service. Thank you so much Peter! Went above and beyond to cater for my dad and his many questions.. 😂 we came midweek, not too busy but still a good atmosphere. We had such a great time, highlights were the potted crab starter, and the grilled mackerel main. Thanks again for a special evening!
Lucy T — Google review
I recently had dinner at this amazing high-end restaurant and it was fantastic! The crab and flatbread starter was super fresh and tasty, with the crab's sweetness perfectly balanced by the crisp flatbread. The duck breast with chickpea and kale was the star of the show. The duck was incredibly tender and juicy, with a rich, savory flavor. The chickpeas added a nice earthy touch, while the kale brought a slight bitterness that balanced the dish perfectly. Pairing it with a glass of house red wine made it even better, as the wine's rich notes complemented the savory duck. I also tried the cockle croquette small plate, and it was a great addition. They were crispy on the outside and filled with a creamy, flavorful mixture of cockles. Absolutely delicious! The service was fantastic, with friendly and attentive staff making sure everything was perfect. The ambiance was beautiful, with elegant decor and a calm atmosphere that made the evening even more special. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy amazing food and great service. Definitely worth a visit!

My wife and I went for a 1400 lunch sitting. Sat at the kitchen counter, kitchen staff all incredibly friendly, waiting and bar staff all attentive and friendly. My wife didn’t fancy any of the cocktails listed so the bar tender asked what flavours she liked and before you know it she had something she loved. The food was beautiful, we had the Fore-rib to share and it was beautiful, incredible beef, the plate had artichokes, salad and nuts, all really tasty! From the little appetisers through to starters right out to the last cocktails, everything we ate and drank was beautiful and we ordered loads and I regret nothing!!! In terms of value, I thought it was bang on. If you want a cheap bite maybe not the gaff but if you want good value for money, incredible food and drink prepared really well and great services this place is proper value for money!

Agree with all the reviews that the food at The Shed is superb and of a very high standard. But without excellent staff it wouldn't be a fantastic experience. We were there last night celebrating our sons graduation. Peter our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very helpful in guiding us through it. He was very polite and attentive, nothing was too much for him. He made myself and my family feel very special as it was a very special day for us. What a way to end a fantastic day. Thankyou so much Peter.

*Outstanding for discerning palates* First time in Swansea and wasn’t too high on what I was seeing for food options (lots of chains, fast food, and pub food). As a foodie and someone with dietary restrictions I was not sure I could find food that was good, least of all excellent. Well the Shed was beyond my expectations. Staff was extremely attentive, professional, knowledgeable and accommodating. I was sitting outside and they made sure I was not forgotten. The potato leek soup was the best I have ever had. The celeriac bake was extraordinary - paired perfectly with so much flavor. Each element built on the other for a flavor explosion. Desserts were unique but not intimidating. The chef clearly knows his ingredients and how best to pair them. Those with discerning palates will appreciate this fine establishment. It’s clear why this restaurant is listed on Michelin’s Guide for Swansea. I highly recommend.

Swansea Indoor Market

So many good food options and many cute local stalls! Definitely worth and visit and recommend to spend between 1-2 hours at the market alone.

I haven't been for many years and to be honest, it's looking very run down and grubby, much like the rest of Swansea. We had coffee in one of the small cafes which was average at best and expensive. Most of the stall holders we met were very helpful and friendly, something I'm glad to say that hasn't changed.

This is a great indoor market. Sells Welsh produce & lots of other market stalls. A great mix with good prices. Really friendly stall holders. Lovely to look around a traditional market with nice people.

It's a dog-friendly place with half of the inside dining area welcoming furry companions, and dogs are also welcome on the terrace and garden. The restaurant boasts stunning views of the seafront and offers a menu featuring modern British cuisine, authentic Welsh dishes, as well as vegetarian and vegan options.
Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Greeted by a super friendly front of house, shown yo our table. Stunning decor and views over the beach. Excellent table service, so efficient. The food was outstanding. Highly recommend.

One of the three eateries under the same management in Swansea, The Secret - Beach Bar & Kitchen is located on the beach and boasts wonderful views. Seating is available outside and of course, inside the eatery. There is ample parking available. On a clear summer evening sitting outside is always advisable. Once you’ve been allotted a place to sit, service is prompt. On holidays and special days, it can be very crowded so it’s advisable to be prepared to wait your turn. The food served is wholesome and the actual presentation, good. But that all depends on what you order. They offer a wide selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. So, if you are looking for a place to spend some quality time with your family or friends and wish to be by the beach, there’s no better place within the city, than the Secret. Go for it.

Great location & view. Order by QR code but would be nicer to be offered a physical menu. Service is ok but no follow up to check how the food was and if everything is ok. A bit on the pricey side. Shame there’s no alternative restaurant/bar along the beach. There’s no competition at all so why would they make an effort to improve the quality of their food and service?

After reading a few negative reviews, I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit today. From the moment we arrived, several members of staff greeted us and let us know our host would be with us shortly. Everyone was attentive, polite, and friendly. We were seated quickly, and our host was equally welcoming. Our food and drinks arrived promptly. I ordered the French toast with yoghurt, berries, and granola, while my partner had the Welsh breakfast. Mine was absolutely delicious - no complaints at all, which says a lot coming from me! My partner really enjoyed his too. Both dishes were well presented and arrived at the same time. The only slight downside for me was the portion size. I was still a bit hungry afterwards if I’m honest and ended up stopping somewhere else on the way to my next destination to fill up a little more. A slightly larger portion, maybe two slices or an optional side (more fruit.. a banana perhaps) would have made it perfect. I would recommend and will return.

We visited here last night before the Skindred concert in the Patti Pavilion and it was absolutely fantastic! We've had breakfast here once before and that was equally great too. The steak was cooked beautifully and the peppercorn sauce and chips were delicious. We both also enjoyed our puddings, which was tiramisu and my partner had the chocolate brownie. Absolutely fantastic, great drinks, and Harry was a great server, very chatty and attentive - 5 stars for him! We'll be back!

Lovely, hot food with a great variety of different options. Authentic Italian cuisine. Pasta was really tasty however portion sizes on small side (plenty of pasta but added chicken only a few pieces and not a breast as expected). Overall expensive for what you get. A last minute decision but a very good one. We were booked in by Amy who was exceptional good, very enthusiastic and obviously loves her job. We were upgraded to a deluxe room in the Townhouse, Amy not only showed us the way, took my suitcase as well. She booked us an excellent restaurant, gave us a map and directions of how to get there as it was our first time in Swansea. Our room was excellent, spacious, well equipped and a fab bathroom. In my opinion, The Morgans Hotel, boast the most desirable location in Swansea. 😊👍 The area is quite lovely, the rooms are beautifully decorated and newly refurbished, I had a perfect stay in one of the hotel's annexes. ⭐️ The staff were helpful and friendly. 💯

Superb hotel, only recently discovered but will definitely be back. We had a lovely room with fantastic bath and shower. Amazing breakfast. All staff were friendly, very helpful and attentive. See you again soon.

Stayed 2 nights in the annex. Good comfortable room. Decent breakfast. Didn’t quite feel 4 star but excellent service. 2 x EV chargers in the free car park was a bonus.

Superb boutique hotel at the bottom of Wyn street. Excellent staff, stayed in Admiral Fitzroy room super. Massive bed and TV. Loved it . Great bar near trendy marina area and right at the end of the nightlife area in Swansea.

Restaurant
Truffle is a charming restaurant in Swansea, known for its Mediterranean-style dishes with global influences. Run by Jodie Haynes and Jon Cox, it has garnered praise from various sources, including a review by renowned TV personality Giles Coren. The restaurant offers great value for money and a warm ambiance, making it a popular choice among locals and visitors alike. Customers have raved about the delicious food, friendly staff, and overall dining experience at Truffle.
Amazing menu with a lot of different flavours. Their three course deal is a really good price with generous portions. Also, the service is really attentive, and the staff are super kind. Would recommend! Best dish was definitely the cannelloni to start - so cheesy!

Went here for the first time yesterday evening and we were incredibly impressed. It was their new autumn menu and every starter, main and dessert was absolutely delicious and well cooked. Highlights include the gnocchi mushroom starter - was the best gnocchi I have ever tried (I don’t usually like gnocchi too much) and the flavours were balanced so well. Also the peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake - it is the nicest cheesecake we have ever eaten. It’s not overly sweet or artificial tasting, it’s very light and creamy. The chocolate brownie was gooey, not dry. Honestly 10/10 on the menu, there is something for everyone even for fussier eaters like myself. Service was great all night, and all the staff were lovely from the chef to the waiters. I can’t wait to return in the future.
Lowri M — Google review
While the food, staff team and ambience was good, we were a bit disappointed that even though some starter and dessert options were sold out we were not able to reduce to 2 courses. It is also only set menu.

I honestly cannot recommend this place enough! The customer service was exceptional, every member of the wait staff was friendly, welcoming, and went out of their way to make our experience memorable. As for the food, all I can say is wow. We visited on Mother's Day and opted for the special menu, which did not disappoint. Every course was a fantastic, and I would honestly give each one a 10/10. The tomato soup and apple crumble in particular were definite highlights for me, but every dish we had was absolutely delicious. Overall, we had an incredible experience and will definitely be returning.

We had an absolutely fantastic evening at Truffle Swansea last night! Our group of 14 women booked in for their 3 course evening menu, and every single one of us left with full bellies and huge smiles. From the warm, attentive service to the great atmosphere and beautifully presented, delicious food, everything was spot on. We truly can’t recommend Truffle highly enough. If you're in Swansea, this is THE restaurant to book!

Been meaning to come here ever since my partner and I moved to Swansea just over a year ago. So happy we weren't disappointed. Honestly one of the best meals we've had in the city. The restaurant is lovely, lots of space between tables which is nice, the service is so welcoming and friendly and the food, very reasonably priced and delicious. Highly recommend, and it's BYO on some drinks to boot. Thank you for a lovely evening.

On a whim, the two of us went to Truffle during the week and found a table available in 10 minutes. It took a bit longer, but the service and food were both very good. The 3-course menu for £29/person is a good way to have a good experience without breaking the bank, and every single dish was noteworthy.

Exeter Airport

Domestic airport
Exeter Airport is a refreshing alternative to the hustle and bustle of larger international airports. Travelers appreciate the efficient handling of a large volume of people, making it a joy to arrive and depart from this airport. The recent addition of a NESPRESSO coffee machine has impressed frequent flyers, offering high-quality coffee that stands out among typical airport fare. While some areas are currently closed, the airport's friendly staff and quick security process make for a pleasant experience.
I have no complaints about this airport. After flying from all the London airports, Bristol, and Manchester, Exeter was great. It was small, not too busy, easy to get around, clean, and the executive lounge was nice. Parking was easy, everything was stress free 👍

No shuttle bus from car park. Staff seem to take particular delight in harassing female passengers, comments made about size of makeup bag and told to "get rid of the cheap stuff". My uncle was Chief ATC here in the 1970s, embarrassed to be flying from this anti diluvian airport. Other staff in Duty Free helpful and without actually voicing it, seem embarrassed by the state of the place and how it is run.

Not impressed by my treatment at security when flying from this airport to Edinburgh. Had what I would consider to be an overzealous body search. Not experienced one like it in all my years of flying. No problems going through security at Edinburgh. Yet here I apparently had '"alot of metal on my person" I have a titanium hip replacement which is never a problem elsewhere (scanners need an update?). My jumper was lifted at the back ( being female, there are metal hooks on my bra) I don't know what else she expected to find. Also hand was placed under the waistband of my trousers. I was told this was going to happen but I wasn't happy. Paddles up and down both legs, inside and out. Told to stand against the wall to remove my shoes. They haven't changed the liquid restrictions at this airport as in Glasgow and Edinburgh so I hadn't remembered to put everything in the the small plastic bag and my luggage was rescanned. Part of that was my fault, but maybe it's time to catch up with other airports as regards this. I had a lovely stay in Devon with everyone being helpful and friendly but this left a sour taste.

Car park 4 …… tiny parking spaces if you treasure your car, don’t use this car park No shuttle bus to main airport and it’s a good 10 to 15 minute walk , not fun when you’ve got cases to drag late at night in the rain, especially if you’ve got mobility problems The rose wine that I’ve got was absolutely disgusting. It would’ve made better drain cleaner !!! and no draft Beer or larger I’m still quite baffled about how we got to be rated one of the best in the UK
Veronica T — Google review
Great little airport with very small terminal, so easy to get around. Not great if it’s raining when you return as you often end up outside getting rather wet but otherwise makes travelling abroad from Devon and Cornwall more accessible rather than having to travel to Bristol or Cardiff.
Kerry G — Google review
Like most UK airports Exeter has decided to fleece its visitors drivers with a £5 drop off fee. It's not like there's a rail or decent bus alternative. Being tiny, most people of course arrange to be collected on the road, no one is going to pay £5 to walk 100 metres, so there is chaos on the nearby roads and local business' driveways. There is a free facility further down the road but this isn't properly promoted. Once inside, small is beautiful. The departure lounge is perfect although they could use some more seating at the gate. Arrivals is disastrous. We arrived just after another flight, so that's just two planes offloading and we have to queue outside in the cold and rain for immigration, all very third world. There were three staff operating border control which was a good effort, the infrastructure is just too small. All the staff I encountered were nice and efficient.

Great Airport easy to get to car parks nearby a small and friendly airport

All was fine ,walking from plane to Airport building. Then a 40 min wait, standing in a corridor, to go through passport control. 3 border officials on duty, fine. No where to lean in the corridor and people desperate for the loo !! 15 min wait before the luggage carousel started rolling. All in all tolerable experience. Convenience of flying from/to Exeter far out ways the wait, but it would be even better without !!

Cardiff Airport

International airport
Airport
Cardiff Airport is a small but efficient airport located just minutes from the lively Welsh capital. Despite its size, it offers essential amenities such as Greggs, Costa Coffee, WHSmiths, a pub, and duty-free shopping. The airport provides a calm and quiet atmosphere with minimal queues at security and plenty of seating for travelers to relax before their flights. While it may not have the flashy stores of larger airports, Cardiff Airport offers everything needed for a pleasant travel experience.
Phenomenal. We stood at the end of the runway where we watched the planes coming into land. The noise from the Boeing 747 was incredible and absolutely amazing. There were a variety of smaller crafts passing overhead. Absolutely brilliant.
Julie B — Google review
Extremely disappointment decision by the airport authorities with the £3 drop off few for 10minutes. Very disappointing amount too as it could be £1 instead : it’s already so difficulty to her to the airport from the city centre, as public transport unfriendly unless you fancy travelling on a bus for 90mins from the city or a train followed by a bus which again takes an hour! Car is the only option! Very empty check in area- only Logan air counters open. Upstairs to departures- much better now, More organised and smoother security without waits as previously with more security aisles. Duty free still the same size albeit missing champagne deals. Three options for seated food and drink: tap and brew, y Castell and Costa Coffee. WH Smith around the corner. The lounge only accepts dragonpass and not priority pass.
Travelling D — Google review
The airport was fine, but the parking was very confusing. It doesn't distinguish between long stay & short stay. Thus when taking folks to departures or picking them up at arrivals, you have no idea which car park to go to!
Jonathan G — Google review
Real mixed bag. Plenty of parking a short walk to the terminal. Quick bag drop and quick through security. Choices for food when through are limited and the sole bar needs a very thorough clean. 1 duty free shop and one W h Smith is all that's there to browse. A pub and a costa, both double the normal costs are the only food options.

Flying from Cardiff to Malaga today and the whole experience has been fantastic, other airports could learn a lot from Cardiff. From parking to security to duty free, the staff are welcoming and their customer service is second to none. Special mention to Robert Lewis in security who was exceptionally helpful, a credit to Cardiff Airport, who clearly loves his work. Thank you Cardiff Airport for making the beginning of our holiday a stress free experience. Love flying from Cardiff! Diolch my fawr 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Toured Wales and ended my time in Cardiff. At Cardiff Airport, very easy rental car drop off. Very easy check-in, bag drop off and getting through security. Also visited the business lounge. From my very first interaction to getting on the plane, every single person was friendly and efficient. I have spent time in the busiest airports in the world, and Cardiff Airport was a breath of fresh air for me. I will make a point of trying to fly in or out of Cardiff in the future. Thanks! .

Fantastic airport. Easy to navigate taking the stress away from travelling. The people who work in the car park (express) couldn't do enough for you. Staff in the airport were lovely. It makes travelling a breeze. 👍

I kindly request consideration for expanding international flight routes at Cardiff Airport. Increasing global connectivity will not only benefit travelers but also significantly boost the local economy—supporting taxi businesses, creating jobs, and driving more visitors into our vibrant city. Thank you for your attention to this opportunity for regional growth.
