Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Pavilion of Prince Teng, a 9-story structure originally built in 653 AD by Li Yuanying, is a renowned cultural site in Nanchang City. Rebuilt over two dozen times, it has historical significance dating back to the Tang Dynasty. The famous poem 'Tengwang Ge Xuji' by Wang Bo further adds to its prestige.
The Tengwang Pavilion stands as a majestic testament to ancient Chinese architecture and artistry. Its intricate design, with layers of gracefully curved eaves and vibrant colors, immediately captivates the eye. The pavilion's history is as rich as its appearance, steeped in tales of emperors, poets, and scholars. Ascending to the top floor is an experience in itself. The panoramic view is breathtaking, offering a stunning vista of the Gan River and the surrounding cityscape. The atmosphere is refreshingly invigorating, with a gentle breeze that carries the scent of the river and the whispers of history. Visiting the Tengwang Pavilion is like stepping back in time, a chance to appreciate the beauty of a bygone era while enjoying the tranquility of the present. It's a must-see for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and heritage. ✨Credits to a wonderful Chinese friend of mine✨

The pavilion was built in 2002. You can tell it’s really a modern building rather than a historical one. Overall experience was just so so because the building was small. You can just take the elevator to the 6/F and walk down from the top floor. The view from the top floor was just okay, not really magnificent nor stunning. I think the entrance fee was overpriced for it. The most annoying thing is that there was a music band playing pop and modern music very loudly on the ground floor of the pavilion. You can here the music and busking even on the top floor! This was very unmatch with the environment.
Blah — Google review
As documented, Tengwang Pavilion or Pavilion of Prince Teng is one of the 3 great towers of southern China. From the vast complex area, the Pavilion looks like a 3-storey building with a corridor. However as you proceed towards the building , it is on a pedestal which resembles an ancient wall. It is a 9 storeys building, floor by floor are several display of paintings, ancient costumes, porcelains and murals & portraits of 80 outstanding figures & scholars in Jiangxi from the Qin to Ming & Tang Dynasty on the walls and a 28mx1.52m Bluestone Brick Carving picture of Flourishing Jiangxi in Ming Dynasty. As Prince Teng , was good at painting, he likes to paint butterflies , there is a a Picture of A 100 of butterflies & flowers (Polished Lacquer Painting) 5.4x2.0m Picture on wall displayed with some antiques tables and chairs. A special mention on wall was written for Architect Mr Liang Sicheng on his remarkable contributions to the re-design on its main structure of Rebuilding in 1942. Strolling along the corridors, the panoramic view of the city and bridges across Gan River is especially magnificient. Several poets who have all witnessed the view standing upon Tengwang Pavilion left behind beautiful verses for later generations. Especially the poems handwritten by Su Shi (Su DongPo) carved onto copper plates, are prominently displayed on wall with his statue standing infront inside the hall. Alot of stairs to climb , do requires more time to browse through all displays, but needless to say the stunning views and its unique architecture are worth the effort!!

Genuinely stunning, better at night when the pavilion and its surroundings light up But at any time, its steeped in history and is simply a marvel to behold
Darren W — Google review
Amazing place to visit at Nanchang. The view is just absolutely stunning! Try not to go during hot weather, else you will experience sauna inside 🤭
James H — Google review
Even though reconstructed it is worth visiting. Sail by at night and it is beautifully lighted. Come in the day and tour the 7 storey pavilion. Each level tells a different part of the history and story of the pavilion, its occupants and buildings. If you like Chinese poetry and history this is the place for you. It got famous because of a poem written by a travelling poet whilst attending a banquet at this pavilion. Supposedly he composed it in one sitting of the banquet. Hire a personal guide from the place or use Google translate for the plaques on the wall. Note lifts don’t work well so expects lots of staircase climbing. English translation of famous poem attached

Scenic spot
The Longevity Palace History Block, also known as Wanshou Palace, was constructed to honor the protection of the gods in Jiangxi and to commemorate 'Blessed Lord' Xu Zhenjun. This historical site pays tribute to Xu Zhenjun, formerly known as Xu Xun, who was originally from Jingyuan.
(Translated by Google) The Wanshou Palace Block has a total construction area of about 150,000 square meters. It consists of three parts: historical residences, commercial blocks, and the Wanshou Palace religious and cultural area. There are six characteristic business areas, including Chaoshang Territory, Ganwei Home, Cultural and Creative Market, and Jiangxi Gifts. Since the 1990s, due to various factors such as aging business formats, traffic congestion, and serious fire hazards, the Nanchang Wanshou Palace Block has gradually withdrawn from the stage of history. In 2013, the demolition of the Wanshou Palace area was launched. The block was repaired and opened for trial operation on February 6, 2021, and opened for full operation on October 1. This is a must-visit place when you come to Nanchang, Jiangxi. The Longevity Palace History Block (万寿宫历史文化街区) is a popular 4A-level scenic spot in Nanchang. It's worth a visit on this historical and cultural street. The Wanshou Palace (万寿宫) is separated into three zones: historical houses, commercial blocks, and religious and cultural sites. I came here in the evening, at 17:00, and there are a lot of people there since they are starting to light up the lights. There are many alleys to explore, as well as a street full of shops and traditional Jiangxi foods and snacks to try, including 白糕糕, a glutinous rice cake, 瓦罐汤, a herbal soup stewed in a pottery jar, and 南昌拌粉 a Nanchang stir-fried rice noodles with a spicy and delicious taste. There is a stinky tofu shop (小邓臭豆腐) here, and many Chinese people come to try it. It has two prices: 5 and 10 yuan. It's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and I enjoy the taste. (Btw, someone doesn't like its smell either.) Address: 江西省南昌市西湖区醋巷广润门住宅小区二区东北侧约100米 (could take a metro line 1 to Wanshougong station, exit at exit 1)

The memorial hall is divided into two buildings: the exhibition hall and the former site of the Nanchang Uprising General Headquarters. On August 1, 1927, the Communist Party fought fiercely with the Kuomintang in Nanchang, marking the beginning of the struggle for power between the two parties. It was also the official confrontation between the Communist Party and the Kuomintang with armed force. Nanchang is known as the Hero City and became a founding city on August 1st. Historic Sites
Jiangxi Revolution Martyrs' Memorial Hall is a significant site in Nanchang, offering free entry to visitors. It provides insights into the history of the Chinese Communist Party's revolutionary martyrs. The museum utilizes modern technology, such as holographic projections, to vividly explain historical events. While it may not be popular among locals, it is recommended for those interested in learning about Nanchang's history.
A must see when you want to know more about the history of Nanchang. You need a good translator since everything will be Chinese. It's quite impressive how they also use new technology to explain history more vivid. When we were there, a big group of school kids were watching the holographic projection. Jiangxi Museum, located in the Jiangxi province, is a small yet impressive museum that showcases a diverse range of relics. Divided into three main sections, visitors can explore the nature section featuring images and models of dinosaurs and the evolution of butterflies. One of its notable exhibits is the tomb of Haihunhou, which belonged to Liu He, a deposed emperor of the Han Dynasty.

Well, as a provincial museum, lot of the displays and exhibit are very disappointing. Collections are very limited, it remind me the Wuhan City museum. Dinosaurs stature are made from out of date information and looks like elementary school works, too much of the political agenda exhibits which ruined everything else. Building is lack of the A/C system and it is very hot inside, only selected spot with AC units available. Compare to Hubei and Shanxi Province museum, this place is a joke. Haihun Marquess Tomb exhibit is bit more attractive compare to others in the museum and it is only thing that have a meaning for this place.

At that time, the tomb robbery gang had dug a 14-meter hole. Fortunately, the villagers of Minjue reported the crime and it was protected in time. It is now on display at the Jiangxi Provincial Museum. There are more than 900 exhibits unearthed from the tomb of Haihunhou. In 2019, a new special museum will be established at the tomb of Haihunhou. It will have more complete supporting facilities and is expected to have better results. The exhibits are really shocking. The large pieces of gold in the entire exhibition hall are really dazzling. I have never seen such a scene. It is said that when the rescue excavation workers entered the main tomb coffin room, the entire coffin room was filled with gold. But there are still some Unfortunately, several iconic pieces of lacquerware are not on display, as are bamboo slips and wooden slips. They are probably too precious to be displayed regularly. Attraction
Qiushui Square is a popular attraction in Nanchang, China, known for its captivating water and light show. To get the best view of the fountain, it's recommended to arrive early to avoid crowds and secure a spot on the sidewalk steps for an enhanced visual experience. The square is easily accessible by subway, making it convenient for visitors to reach. The mesmerizing 12-minute water show, accompanied by music and laser lights, draws both tourists and locals alike.
The 12 minutes water show starts at 6:30 pm. Cool attraction for tourists the locals. Recommended to see while you're visiting Nanchang, China.

in chinese Tang Poem, this place is described as 落霞与孤鹜齐飞,秋水共长天一色 it is not impossible to translate the literal meaning of this line into english but really the quintessence of chinese Tang Poem is its beauty of phrasing and rhythm. so it is only appreciable when it is read in Chinese off on tangents a bit haha there is music fountain there operating every night (apparently before the pandemic), usually crowds will gather from 7:30pm subway and bus station nearby, very convenient transportation also a good spot to enjoy night scene of the opposite side of Gan River. really you could tell how modernized China is, even though Nanchang is not a large city. those dazzling neon light shining the whole night a walk at riversie would also be super cozy and chilled there are malls and boutique hotels (Shangri La) nearby so no worry, just enjoy

Airport
Nanchang Changbei International Airport, located in Changbei Town, is a modern airport serving Nanchang, China. It offers domestic and some international flights and serves as a hub for China Eastern Airlines. The airport opened in 1995 and provides transportation to the city via buses. While there are hotels nearby, they may require driving to reach. English speakers may encounter challenges with language barriers at the airport's shops and restaurants, but overall, travelers have reported helpful interactions despite this issue.
Great big airport, in Jiangxi province, people are very co opartive , particularly the airlines people, but restaurant and other shop people don't understand English so it's a bit problem.

Nice and clean. There are buses you can ride to get to the Nanchang City or other cities. To the Nanchang city, you need 15 CNY, the buses run very late. There are very helpful if you arrived to the airport in late night. There are some hotels around the airport but I can not found them on foot. Maybe there are located at somewhere to which you need to drive a car. So my recommendation is that you better need to go to the city and find a hotel if you need to have some rest just like I do when I traveled there. There are many cheap and nice hotels around the train station, where is the last stop of the bus traveled from the airport.

Small airport with 30 min drive to the city, but no English speakers, WiFi didn’t activate with international phone number, and no stores or restaurants use chip and pin credit cards (need WeChat) so bring cash if you’re not up to date with Chinese payment methods. Overall not a bad airport, you just need to be confident in international travel.

(Translated by Google) Nanchang is an important place in the history of the Chinese Communist Party. The main building is located in the 81st Square in China. It is known for the local Communist Party that rose to power in 1927. The following year, Chou Enlai came and joined them. Founding Day marks the birth of the People's Liberation Army with the uprising of Nanchang. There is a monument around the current Bayi Square, and it is a monument more magnificent than anywhere else in Chongqing, Hangzhou, or Kashgar. Bayi Square, the second-largest square in China, covers an impressive 78,000 square meters and is a significant landmark in Nanchang. Constructed between 1977 and 1979, it features stunning fountains, sculptures, and a pedestrian shopping street that make it a popular destination for shopping and entertainment. The square holds historical significance as it commemorates the founding of the People's Liberation Army on August 1st.
most iconic tourist site of Nanchang, a square named "bayi", which means "August 1st", the day when PLA was founded Nanchang was a important city in modern china history and ccp history, from here the Bayi Revolution led by Zhou Enlai and He Long, signals the official start (according to historians and ccp researchers) of militarised confrontation between ccp and kmt there is a momument on the squere, with relief on its four sides of the basement, including several important revolutions in china history, showing the rolling of history never ends transport is fairly convenient there is metro station right at one corner of the squere, but do take note it is hard to find a pedestrian crossing here, so usually it is recommended to come here by metro

The square wasn't super filled with much when I passed through, and honestly the pillar is kind of ugly. It's a little too jagged and brutalist to make a good welcoming city square. There is however a lot to do in the surrounding area near the square.

Bayi Square (八一廣場) is one of Nanchang’s most iconic landmarks and a major tourist attraction… At its center stands the Bayi Memorial Tower, which is topped with a symbolic rifle and the flag of the August 1st Army, serving as a powerful tribute to China's revolutionary history! Locals proudly claim it as the second-largest public square in China, surpassed only by Tiananmen Square in Beijing… Its deep historical significance makes it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the city 😁 Bayi Square is impressively well-maintained and very clean… while some older (5-years ago) reviews mentioned the presence of beggars, that is no longer the case - as the Government has done a lot to lift its people out of poverty..

The best service I have ever had for hot pot, the waitress stayed around and checked if you have any need. Also gave some suggestions for the best way to cook the foods and very polite to every customers, they walked me to the elevator when I left, much way better than other branch I had in Shenzhen.

I frequently visited that place between 2004 to 2009. Have wonderful memories of this place. Hope to be there someday soon.

Dropped a star because there are so many beggars and baby animal sellers on the bridges. Beggars all around the square too. But the square itself is good, clean and tidy. Nice gardens and water display. Historical site.
