Kunshan in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Kunshan, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Kunshan sits between Shanghai and Suzhou, making it an easy base for exploring the Yangtze River Delta while offering a quieter, smaller-city feel. The main draw is Zhouzhuang Ancient Town and other nearby water towns, where stone bridges, canals and traditional courtyard houses evoke old Jiangnan life. Kunshan also has well-kept parks and lakes, such as Yangcheng Lake, known throughout China for its hairy crabs in season. Modern malls, business districts and good transport links round out its appeal for travelers passing through the region.
With favorites like Luzhi, Liangli Diary International Cosmetics Lu Zhi No.5, and Forest Park, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees.0 To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. Parks
Tinglin Park is a serene and picturesque destination located just 30 minutes from Kunshan. This ancient town is known for its waterways, bridges, and beautiful cherry blossoms in the spring. The park itself features stunning gardens filled with blooming azaleas and cherry blossoms during this season, offering visitors the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll, a peaceful picnic, or even some bird watching.
Beautiful park in the heart of Kunshan with little bridges, a mountain you can hike to the top (10 minutes max.) and gardens and bamboo forest. Simply wonderful. There is also a cat cafeteria and library inside and the staff is very welcoming and speaks English. Two cats live there as well.
Arina V — Google review
When you visit Kunshan, it's hard to imagine not visiting Tinglin Park. Admission is a very understandable 20 RMB, it is very centrally located and easily accessible (Bus 1 from Kunshan (slow train) station) and the views are on par with some of the gardens in Suzhou with only a fraction of the tourists. A recent expansion has almost doubled the size of the park so be prepared to walk quite a bit. In the centre of the park is a mountain that features a variety of ways to climb it, ranging from roads and stairs to more challenging natural paths. From the mountain top, there are outstanding views of Kunshan. Spring is probably the best season to visit but when we visited in the winter, it was still gorgeous if in a more bleak way. Take some of the less obvious trails and paths and you will be rewarded with some excellent photo opportunities. Pro Tip: Summer evenings occasionally feature outdoor Chinese opera performances in the gardens and "walking" on the ponds (through optical illusion). The opera features English subtitles on a screen. Even if Chinese opera is not your thing, you will definitely not regret this experience. Absolutely not to be missed. Check at the park entry gate for opera times and tickets.

Beautiful park with great views. Only 20 RMB to enter.
Joshua M — Google review
It's a nice escape for a walk. It has a small entrance fee. They have done a good job to keep things beautiful and give the visitors the feeling that they are in a "traditional" Chinese garden. It also has a Buda temple. But you can say that nothing is original there, from the waters up in the hill (no spring nearby) to some "rocks" that are actually painted foam. It's about a 3Hours walk to see everything at the park and it sure worth the effort and time.

Jinxi Ancient Town is a small and tranquil destination with minimal boat queues, offering a pleasant 25-minute boating experience along two scenic waterways. The town retains an antique charm with little human interference, making it an ideal place for a leisurely stroll. The ancient community has preserved its original essence, providing visitors with a glimpse into traditional Chinese life. One of the highlights is the unique long corridor bridge and the serene boat ride through lotus-filled waters, creating a peaceful atmosphere for exploration.
I visited this place 33 years ago in the year 1991 when China opened up for foreigner, this allowed me to make my first visit to Shanghai, Suzhou and Wuxi for a month. It was through good friends in Shanghai that made it possible for me to temporary stay in a house with an very old bed in a small bedroom at this peaceful place, whenever I need to stop over from time to time as I was moving around... This beautiful place was an original community for the Chinese people to live and work. I truely enjoyed the original life style of the people here, as they were still very much remain the same as the original Chinese people, whom were not yet adopting to the commercialisation lifestyles as the West did. There was a gentleman at a Lake Side restaurant which was above the water, he was the owner of the restaurant and cooked very well for me whenever I returned in the evening. A small hospital with mud floor that happily serving the local community was an essential part of the people's life. There was a little Pre-school that attracts the little ones with beautiful uniforms in the morning, that caused me to discover their healthy pink faces. I saw housewives cooking Dumplings Infront of their little houses to provide breakfast for the workers whom were leaving for work. The original Chinese people here were mostly kind and warm that made me felt like returning to my own original Chinese Kampong. There was a Bus Station outside the town which could bring you to the nearby City and Train Station... Over the years, there were many redevelopment projects taking place here as China becomes richer. This includes the present TAN's Tomb, as it was just a tiny piece of empty land with a few wooden sticks that stuck on that island 34 years ago... TAN's Tomb disappeared automatically whenever there was heavy rain as the lake water rises. The local told me that originally there was a wooden structure on that tiny island where the tomb located, but it was wasted away due to the sinking island and lack of maintenance. This is definitely a Very Good place to visit as it could really bring you a life long Good memory... I could never forget the benefits of staying here even just for a little while, as I was Born Again Spirituality 4 years later in 1995. Therefore it is really a BLESSING to be here.

The ancient town is very large and has maintained its original ancient style. There are not many tourists. You can feel the Jiangnan style by strolling on the stone road. It is recommended to visit it at dusk on non-working days. With the red lights, the sky and water complement each other, you will linger and enjoy a special feeling. There are several large parking lots nearby. There are restaurants, shops, Zen temples, and museums around and in the ancient town.

Scenic old water town, but it's also true that once you have seen one, you've pretty much seen all. It's rather similar to Zhujiajiao, Zhou Zhuang and even Panlong Tiandi that I've just been to. But maybe because this is quite out of the way, it's less crowded, for a Sunday. I felt cheated paying ¥55 for a full ticket that included a number of the museums in there, where some didn't bother to check for tickets, another was not opened. I only made it to one that would have cost just ¥15 for single entry. 古砖瓦博物馆 (in the old town) A collection of and showcase of Chinese expertise in tile production. Worth seeing. Opened 0800-1700 hrs, ¥15 entry fee. Walking ahead from here to the middle section, it gets more lively, with the shops. Tried 袜底酥, apparently a recognized heritage snack. Aunty gave me a piece fresh from the oven so it was hot, crispy and flaky but nothing spectacular though. For ¥2, it's a cheap snack to try, but certainly not something I'll travel the distance for.

Forest Park is a vast and stunning park that offers diverse landscapes and attractions. While some parts of the park may seem overly groomed and lacking in biodiversity, it still provides a beautiful natural setting. Additionally, the petting zoo in the southeast area has been noted to be overcrowded with animals, which can make it uncomfortable and unhygienic for them.
A sprawling and beautiful park with many different biomes and attractions. I have two comments: first, many areas of the park feel too well-maintained and manicured, i.e. they are nearly monocultured and do not represent and authentic biodiversity; and second, the petting zoo in the southeast is overcrowded with animals. It seems uncomfortable and unhygienic for them.

Kunshan is not necessarily known as a hub of tourist sites. But if you find yourself in Kunshan, this is, in my opinion, one of the places to visit. While Tinglin Park has a variety of historic buildings among the gardens, Kunshan Nature Park, as the name says, focuses on natural scenery, wetlands, flower gardens and forestry. There are opportunities for birdwatching which is not so common in urban east coast China and seeing butterflies and other insects. For my wife, the highlight of the park was the covered walkway which takes you to a higher level for a different view of the forest. Just be prepared to walk or pay out some serious money for rental bicycles. There are also rental boat rides in the summer season and rental tents for "day camping" (not overnight). We visited in the winter which was surprisingly beautiful, not that oppressively cold and pleasantly uncrowded. Something to consider.... Pro Tip Entry to the park is free of charge but food and rides are expensive. It might be to your advantage to bring your own food and picnic in the park. Or you can take the walkpath all the way to the neighbouring sports stadium complex where there are a large number of nice restaurant options. Above all else come prepared to walk. Distances are long, indeed.....
